Investigation of the enamel microstructure of 20 isolated rodent incisors from the ?Eocene Santa Rosa local fauna (Peru) yielded exclusively schmelzmuster with multiserial Hunter–Schreger bands (HSB). All three subtypes of multiserialHSB with parallel, acute angular, and rectangular interprismatic matrix (IPM) that were previously reported for caviomorph rodents are present. Two lower incisors with rectangular IPM can be attributed to the Octodontoidea, a caviomorph superfamily exhibiting this highly derived enamel type. The plesiomorphic pauciserial condition that characterizes early Paleogene rodents such as North American Ischyromyoidea (including “Franimorpha”) has not been detected. It is therefore probable that the founder populations of South American Caviomorpha already possessed a derived incisor schmelzmuster with multiserial HSB that is shared with African Thryonomyoidea. Because on the North American continent a possible stem-lineage representative of Caviomorpha with multiserial HSB has never been detected, incisor enamel microstructure supports the hypothesis of an African origin of Caviomorpha from a common ancestor shared with Thryonomyoidea.  相似文献

In a continuing study of the importance of metallothionein (MT) in the growth and development of neonates, zinc and copper metabolism in rat brain, heart, lung, spleen, and thymus has been analyzed in 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 day old rats. Total, cytosol, and MT zinc and copper concentrations and organ contents were determined. Zinc, but very little, if any copper was associated with MT in these organs. Concentrations ranged from 0.03 to 3.3 μg Zn in MT/g; organ contents ranged from 0.003 to 2.2 μg Zn in MT/organ. Brain exhibited the highest concentrations and contents of zinc in MT, approaching the levels found in kidneys. Rank order of organ contents of zinc in MT was brain > lung > heart, spleen, thymus, during this neonatal growth period. When organ growth was rapid, a large percentage (20–95%) of the cytosolic zinc present in these organs was associated with MT, as has been previously observed with liver, kidneys, and testes. None of these organs undergoes the dramatic changes in zinc and copper metabolism previously observed in neonatal rat liver and gastrointestinal tract, and in maturing testes. They are more comparable to kidneys in their concentrations of zinc in MT. Like testes, little copper is found in these organs.  相似文献

Due to their flexibility, sutures are regions that experience greater strains than the surrounding rigid cranial bones. Cranial sutures differ in their degree of interdigitation or complexity. There is evidence indicating that a more convoluted suture better enables the absorption of high stresses coming from dynamic masticatory forces, and other functions. The Order Rodentia is an interesting clade to study this because of its taxa with diverse chewing modes. Due to repeated loading resulting from gnawing and grinding, energy absorption by the sutures might be a crucial factor in these mammals. Species within the infraorder Caviomorpha were chosen as a case study because of their ecomorphological and dietary diversity. This study compared five sutures from the rostrum and cranial vault across seven caviomorph families, and assessed their complexity by means of the relative length and fractal dimension. Across these rodents, cranial sutures are morphologically quite diverse. We found that the sutures connecting the rostrum with the vault were relatively more interdigitated than those in the cranial vault itself, especially premaxillofrontal sutures. Suture interdigitation was higher in species that display chisel‐tooth digging and burrowing behaviors, especially in the families Ctenomyidae and Octodontidae, than those in families Dasyproctidae and Cuniculidae, which have more gracile masticatory systems. The reconstruction of the ancestral character state, on family and species phylogeny, points toward low suture interdigitation (i.e., low length ratio) as a likely ancestral state for interfrontal, premaxillofrontal and maxillofrontal sutures. Interspecific differences in suture morphology shown here might represent adaptations to different mechanical demands (i.e., soft vs. tough foods) or behaviors (e.g., chisel‐tooth digging), which evolved in close association with the diverse environments occupied by caviomorph rodents.  相似文献

Summary Correlated responses to selection for increased 3–6 week postweaning gain in male mice were estimated for seven internal organs (testes, spleen, liver, kidneys, heart, small intestine (S intest) and stomach) weighed at specific degrees of maturity in body weight (37.5, 50.0, 62.5, 75.0, 87.5 and 100%). Correlated responses in organ weights were generally large, but the magnitude and direction of response depended upon whether 1) comparisons were made at the same age, degree of maturity or body weight and 2) absolute or proportional organ weights were used. The selected line (M16) weighed more and had larger organ weights than controls (ICR) when compared at either the same degree of maturity or the same age, indicating positive genetic correlations between body weight and the respective organ weights. Positive correlated responses were found in spleen weight/body weight at all degrees of maturity and in liver and S intest weights as a proportion of body weight at some degrees of maturity. Testes, kidneys, heart and stomach weights as a proportion of body weight had negative correlated responses, though this was consistent only for kidneys across all degrees of maturity. Correlated responses in organ weights adjusted for body weight by covariance analysis were positive for spleen, S intest and stomach and negative for testes and kidneys. Based on the constrained quadratic model, degree of maturity in organ weight relative to degree of maturity in body weight responded positively for testes, kidneys and S intest and negatively for spleen and liver. Questions concerned with the relationship between organ weights and body weight on an intraspecific level are best answered by using a sample of animals collected in the wild from a single locale during a single season. The organ weights and body weights for this study were obtained from the necropsy reports prepared in the field (Athi Plain, Kenya) by H. C. McGill, Jr. on 36 adult animals (18 males and 18 females). Dental and facial measurements were taken by M.I. Siegel. In order to avoid erroneous results produced by statistical treatment of combined sex samples of sexually dimorphic species, data on the sexes were analyzed separately. Means and standard deviations are reported for selected organ weights and body dimensions (heart, lung, liver, spleen, kidney, adrenal, brain, and pancreas weights, crown–rump length, crown–heel length, head circumference, chest circumference, and body weight). All of the above measures were significantly (p<0.05) different between the sexes. Logarithms of these measures were significantly correlated with the logarithm of body weight in males for heart, lung, liver, spleen, kidney, and adrenal weights, crown–heel length, and head and chest circumference, and in females for crown–heel length, heart, liver, and kidney weights. Partial correlational analysis, removing the effects of body size (weight), showed mostly negative correlational relationships between dental and visceral dimensions. Most of the correlations between facial and visceral dimensions were negative. Allometric equations were calculated for the dental, facial, and visceral dimensions versus body weight, and are compared with prior published results.  相似文献

目的比较两种不同微生物学控制等级的五指山小型猪主要脏器重量和相对重量差异。方法选取4月龄近交培育的五指山猪20头,其中普通级和SPF级各10头,雌雄各半,分别测定体重和7种主要脏器重量,分析两种不同微生物控制程度的小型猪主要脏器形态及脏器相对重量。结果SPF级小型猪体重显著低于普通级对照(P〈0.01),前者肺和脾的形态发生改变,肝、心、脑和肾上腺的相对重量显著高于普通级对照(P〈0.01),而SPF级的脾和肺的相对重量显著低于普通级对照(P〈0.01)。结论小型猪在不同微生物控制程度下体重和脏器系数存在显著差异,主要脏器形态与脏器系数差异可作为实验动物质量鉴定的参考依据。  相似文献

The scapula of the ecomorphologically diverse South American caviomorph rodents was studied through geometric morphometric techniques, using landmarks and semilandmarks to capture the shape of this complex morphological structure. Representatives of 33 species from all caviomorph superfamilies, as well as Hystrix cristata for comparisons, were analyzed. Marked differences in scapular shape were found among the major caviomorph lineages analyzed, particularly in the shape and length of the scapular spine and development of the great scapular notch. Shape differences were not influenced by body size, and only partially influenced by locomotor mode. Thus, at this scale of analysis, phylogenetic history seems to be the strongest factor influencing scapular shape. The scapular shape of erethizontids, chinchillids and Cuniculus paca could represent the less specialized state with respect to the highly differentiated scapula of octodontoids and most cavioids. In this sense, the characteristic scapular morphologies of octodontoids and cavioids could reflect particular functional capabilities and constraints associated with the evolution of prevalent locomotor modes within each lineage.  相似文献

生活在同一地域的物种,会因强烈的资源竞争而产生生态位重叠与分离,从而实现相互共存。以神农架地区啮齿动物为研究对象,比较分析不同啮齿类食性、脏器重量及消化道形态差异,探索其共存机制及其生理生态学上的适应策略。食性上,安氏白腹鼠(Niviventer andersoni)、社鼠(N.confucianus)、高山姬鼠(Apodemus chevrieri)、中华姬鼠(A.draco)均为杂食者,但各自喜食偏好不同,安氏白腹鼠的食物组成以植物枝叶和种子为主,社鼠、高山姬鼠和中华姬鼠的食物组成均以种子和动物性食物为主。与各自生态习性及其食性相适应,不同啮齿动物的脏器重量及消化道形态发生相应的变化。脏器重量上,不同啮齿动物心鲜重、肺鲜重、脾鲜重和干重无显著差异,其它指标差异显著。安氏白腹鼠的心干重、肺干重、肝鲜重和干重、肾鲜重和干重显著大于社鼠、高山姬鼠和中华姬鼠。消化道形态上,不同啮齿动物盲肠长、净鲜重和干重无显著差异,其它指标差异显著。其中,胃含内容物鲜重、净鲜重和干重,盲肠含内容物鲜重,大肠长、含内容物鲜重、净鲜重和干重均以安氏白腹鼠具较大值,但各自变化趋势不同;小肠长、含内容物鲜重、净鲜重和干重则以社鼠具较大值。且同属姬鼠属的高山姬鼠和中华姬鼠脏器重量及消化道形态各指标间均无显著差异。由于小泡巨鼠和猪尾鼠数量较少,未进行统计分析。以上结果显示:食物资源利用上的分化有利于安氏白腹鼠与其近缘物种社鼠及其他鼠类的同域共存,且为适应不同的食物资源利用模式,其脏器及消化道形态也发生了适应性的变化;同域分布的近缘物种高山姬鼠、中华姬鼠则有可能采取其它策略而非食物资源分化模式实现共存。  相似文献

In the Neurolab mission, we found that spaceflight affects the development of the aortic baroreflex system and the body weight of the flight rats was significantly lighter [correction of lightess] than that of the control group. The aim of this study is to examine the structural and functional development in various tissues and organs. One hundred and eighteen nine-day old rats and seven fifteen-day old rats, which were launched at these ages and nursed by their dams in the space shuttle Columbia for 16 days, were served for this study. Two hundred and twenty one neonates were used as the ground controls (VIV: vivarium and AGC: asynchronous ground controls). On the landing day after they returned to the earth, the rats were perfused with a fixative under deep urethane anesthesia, and the organs were weighed and the ratio of the organ weight to the body weight was calculated. Six animals of the nine-day old group were reared on the ground for 30 more days after landing and also examined in the same protocol as the landing-day-examination. The organs obtained to examine were heart, lung, spleen, thymus, adrenal glands, kidney, liver, small intestine, large intestine, mesentery, pancreas, testis and ovary. Paraffin sections were made from some organ tissues and prepared for HE staining and immunohistochemistry. We compared these organs in the flight rat with those in the ground controls. All organs except the lung of nine-day old group were significantly smaller. In the ratio of organ weight to body weight, the lung and heart were significantly larger. The weight and ratio of the liver showed no significant difference. The thymus, spleen, mesentery and pancreas were smaller in the weight and the ratio. There were no differences in the body weight among 30-day reared groups, but the lung in the flight group is significantly heavier than the control groups and thymus also tends to be relatively heavy. In flight rats of the fifteen-day group, the kidney was heavy and the ovary was light as compared to the controls. The adipose tissue was macroscopically little found around the thoracic and abdominal organs in all rats of the flight group. These results suggest that the organs related to oxygen supply like as the lung and heart have priority in development over the mesentery and immune system organs even during spaceflight. Lightness of the mesentery in space rats is due to small contents of adipose tissues, and may reflect amounts of the food taken by the flight dams. Lightness of the organs like as the thymus, spleen and pancreas suggests that spaceflight may affect the immune system and also affect continuously the lung and thymus development even after landing.  相似文献

目的测定转基因C57BL/6-Tg(ACTB—EGFP)1osb/J(EGFP)小鼠主要脏器重量和脏器系数。方法实验选用5~6周雄性、6~7周雌性小鼠各15只,用sartorius电子天平分别测定体重和9个主要脏器重量,计算脏器系数,并对雌雄脏器重量和脏器系数之间进行比较。结果雌雄小鼠脏器重量间比较,雄性鼠体重明显大于雌性的体重(P〈0.01);心、肝、肺、肾、肾上腺的重量间差异极显著(P〈0.01);脾脏比较差异显著(P〈0.05);雌雄间脏器系数比较,肺、脑、肾上腺间差异极显著(P〈0.01),心、肝、脾、肾脏间差异不显著(P〉0.05)。结论转基因EGFP小鼠不同性别间脏器重量及脏器系数间有一定的差异,为相关研究打下了基础。  相似文献

对室内培育的灰仓鼠进行同一季节不同年龄段和同一年龄段不同季节某些器官的测量。结果显示, 在初生至25 d 的高速生长期, 体重与肝脏、心脏、肺、脾脏和肾的生长非常接近Huxley 的相对生长公式Y = b xk , 其回归方程分别为: 肝脏Y = 0.013 47 x1.515 9 ; 心脏Y = 0.000 18 x2.163 ; 肺Y = 0.028 48 x0.798 2 ; 脾脏Y = 0.000 24 x1.583 6 ; 肾脏Y = 0.000 2418 x2.310 4 , 并高度相关。睾丸的回归方程在60 日内与Y = b xk公式非常拟合, Y = 0.000 0108 x3.049 4 , r = 0.989 9。除性腺外, 肝脏、心脏、肺、脾脏和肾脏的比值最高值均在25 d 之前。在性成熟期不同年龄段, 性腺比值较稳定, 其它器官比值在性别和年龄段有显著性差异, 雌性普遍高于雄性。在10 月龄不同季节, 只有体重和睾丸比值有显著性差异(7 月最高) , 表示在不同季节利用相近体重比较器官指数差异应将年龄因素作为重要参考依据。  相似文献

Within all species of animals, the size of each organ bears a specific relationship to overall body size. These patterns of organ size relative to total body size are called static allometry and have enchanted biologists for centuries, yet the mechanisms generating these patterns have attracted little experimental study. We review recent and older work on holometabolous insect development that sheds light on these mechanisms. In insects, static allometry can be divided into at least two processes: (1) the autonomous specification of organ identity, perhaps including the approximate size of the organ, and (2) the determination of the final size of organs based on total body size. We present three models to explain the second process: (1) all organs autonomously absorb nutrients and grow at organ-specific rates, (2) a centralized system measures a close correlate of total body size and distributes this information to all organs, and (3) autonomous organ growth is combined with feedback between growing organs to modulate final sizes. We provide evidence supporting models 2 and 3 and also suggest that hormones are the messengers of size information. Advances in our understanding of the mechanisms of allometry will come through the integrated study of whole tissues using techniques from development, genetics, endocrinology and population biology.  相似文献

为探究黑斑侧褶蛙蝌蚪形态和生理特征对水位变化的响应,对480只大小相似的蝌蚪进行快速、中速和慢速干涸处理,统计各发育时期时长和存活率,测定变态完成后幼蛙的身体和内脏器官大小,以及对植物血凝素(PHA-P)的反应。结果表明: 对照组蝌蚪的变态时长最长,显著长于快速、中速和慢速干涸组;不同处理变态存活率在72.5%~90.8%,其中对照组最高,快速干涸组最低。对照和慢速干涸组幼蛙的体重和体长均显著高于中速和快速干涸组,快速干涸组体宽、体重与体长的比值、胴体湿重以及肺和脂肪体的湿重系数均最低,但心、脾、肾和消化器官的湿重系数和消化道各段的长度系数均无明显的组间差异。不同处理幼蛙对PHA-P的最大反应值均出现于注射后3 h,且中速和慢速干涸组的最大反应值均显著高于对照组,而快速干涸组与各组均无显著差异。表明黑斑侧褶蛙蝌蚪可通过加速变态发育进程来应对干旱胁迫,但会出现个体变小、细胞介导的免疫能力下降,不利于其成功登陆。  相似文献

目的分析不同周龄SD大鼠的脏器重量及其变化趋势,为评判药物毒性反应提供理论参考。方法分别选取试验第13、26、52、78和104周对照组动物脑、脾脏、心脏、肺脏、肝脏、肾脏、肾上腺、睾丸、卵巢的重量数据并分析。结果从13~104周SD雌鼠脑、脾脏、心脏、肺脏、肝脏、肾脏、肾上腺、卵巢的重量呈升高趋势。从13~104周SD雄鼠脑、脾脏、心脏、肺脏、肝脏、肾脏重量均重于雌鼠,但雌鼠肾上腺重量、脏体比和脏脑比均显著高于雄鼠。结论本研究首次在国内建立了符合我国实验动物现状的,不同周龄SD大鼠的脏器重量背景数据和参考值范围,并分析了不同周龄SD大鼠脏器重量变化趋势。  相似文献

1. Animals fed a high energy ration had bigger body weight, and bigger heart, brain and genitals then animals fed a normal diet, but they had substantially smaller liver, kidneys, adrenals and thyroid glands than the otherwise smaller animals. Restricted feeding did not necessarily produce smaller organ sizes than normal. 2. The yearly variation in organ sizes was astonishingly large whereas the sex differences were rather rare. 3. For organs like liver, kidneys and thyroid glands the conclusion from the results was independent of the method of expressing the organ mass. The organ sizes seemed to be influenced by many coexisting factors like yearly differences, sex and age of animals, feed and farm.  相似文献

Dietary copper deficiency was produced in Swiss albino mice and Sprague Dawley rats to determine the organ specificity of alterations in norepinephrine (NE) and dopamine (DA) concentrations and the relationship with organ copper levels. A 5-week dietary treatment was used, which started 1 week after birth for mice, initially via dams, and 3 weeks after birth for rats. Mice offspring (6 weeks of age) and rats (8 weeks of age) maintained on a copper-deficient (-Cu) treatment were compared with copper-adequate (+Cu) controls. Compared with +Cu animals, -Cu mice and rats were anemic and had low (<1% of +Cu) ceruloplasmin activities but normal body weights. The -Cu mice had organ copper concentrations ranging between 30% and 65% of +Cu values for eight organs studied, with the thymus being the least depleted. For -Cu rats, the range was 15% to 65%. Significant reductions in NE concentration were observed in the heart, pancreas, and spleen of -Cu mice. Elevated DA levels were observed in all organs except the brain. For -Cu rats, the NE level was lower in the heart and the DA level was higher in both the heart and spleen compared with +Cu rats. Dopamine elevation in the heart and spleen for both -Cu mice and rats was four- and fivefold higher, respectively. Adrenal catecholamine levels were only slightly changed by copper deficiency in mice or rats. Urinary levels of both NE and DA were higher in -Cu rats and mice. Plasma and heart tyrosine levels were not altered in -Cu mice. Elevated DA in -Cu rodents may be due to limiting dopamine-beta-monooxygenase. Higher urinary NE and lower organ NE may be due to a combination of decreased synthesis and enhanced turnover. The magnitude of decreased organ copper was not predictive of altered catecholamine pool size.  相似文献
