The effect of temporary host deprivation on parasitization rates of Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal and T. dendrolimi Matsumura was investigated. The study was conducted with females that we allowed to engage in 3 days of oviposition after various periods of host deprivation. It seems that the production and management of eggs by the two species is completely different. During the first day of oviposition, parasitization by T. cacoeciae was almost unaffected after 1 to 5 days of host deprivation. As deprivation time increased, however, the number of parasitized hosts decreased from an average of 28.6 ±2.0 hosts provided at emergence to an average of 12.5 ±2.3 hosts when the waiting time was 10 days. The number of hosts parasitized on the first day of parasitization by T. dendrolimi were not affected whatever the waiting test period. During the second or third days of oviposition, the lack of suitable hosts for T. cacoeciae did not depress egg-laying potentiality, whereas a strong reduction in parasitization rates by T. dendrolimi occurred in the next 2 days of oviposition whatever was the waiting period. This leads to ca. 50% reduction in total activity of 3 days of oviposition. Only in T. cacoeciae was it possible to distinguish between ageing and host deprivation. The data suggest that T. dendrolimi is a typical proovigenic species, while T. cacoeciae is neither definitely proovigenic nor synovigenic. A slight decrease in rate of emergence of offspring of T. cacoeciae females that had waited 8 to 10 days for their hosts was observed. As far as biological control is concerned, the efficiency of T. dendrolimi females may be more sensitive to host deprivation than T. cacoeciae.  相似文献

In the first generation of the grape moth Lobesia botrana, Trichogramma evanescens spread to a greater extent than Trichogramma cacoeciae and parasitized most of the grape moth eggs. Reduction of damage to grapes was improved by doubling the number of T. evanescens release points in the first and second generations. In the second generation of the grape moth, T. cacoeciae was more efficient than T. evanescens . The highest proportion of individuals belonging to the reared and natural T. cacoeciae strains were found in the plot in which they were initially released. The total number of individuals emerging from parasitized eggs eggs was the same for each strain, which would suggest that neither predominated. Whichever T. cacoeciae strain considered, a density of 800 release points ha -1 did not induce greater parasitization than a density of 400 release points ha -1 .  相似文献

Four Trichogramma species were found in a pomegranate orchard in Gabès, an arid region of Tunisia, from parasitized eggs of Ectomyelois ceratoniae Zeller (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae), an economically important insect pest. Identification based on assessment of male genitalia and internal transcribed spacer 2 ( ITS 2) sequences showed that they were T. bourarachae Pintureau and Babault, 1988, T. oleae Voegelé and Pointel, 1979, T. cacoeciae Marchal, 1927 and T. evanescens Westwood, 1833. Trichogramma evanescens is reported for the first time in Tunisia. Trichogramma cacoeciae was the largely dominant species in the analyzed samples, whereas T. bourarachae was present in a minor portion of 1.38%. The implications of these results for attempts at controlling E. ceratoniae are discussed.  相似文献

Activity of Trichogramma , assessed by trapping with host-eggs, was observed as early as April and continued until October in the vineyards and their surrounding biotops. Trichogramma showed the greatest activity in April-May, July and September. Parasitized eggs were found before the main laying period of the first generation of the grapevine moths Lobesia botrana Den. and Schiff. and Eupoecilia ambiguella Hb. Four native species, Trichogramma cacoeciae Marchal, Trichogramma daumalae Dugast and Voegelé, Trichogramma evanescens Westwood and Trichogramma principium Sugonjaev and Sorokina were found.  相似文献

The patch exploitation strategy of females of the insect parasitoid Trichogramma brassicae was studied on patches containing different proportions of hosts that were previously attacked by conspecificfemales. On average, T. brassicae females spent more time onpatches of higher quality, and all patches were reduced tothe same level of profitability before being left. This appearedto be in accordance to the optimal predictions of the CharnovMarginal Value Theorem. The proximate leaving mechanisms involvedwere analyzed by means of a Cox proportional hazards model.Each oviposition in a healthy host appeared to have an incremental influence on the patch residence time, whereas each rejectionof a healthy host or of a host that was previously attackedby the same female (i.e., self-superparasitism) had a decrementaleffect. These patch leaving mechanisms did not change accordingto the quality of the patch the females were exploiting. AMonte Carlo simulation was developed around the results of the Cox regression model. The results suggest that this set of patchleaving rules seems to provide the females with a sufficientway to reach the predictions of the Charnov model. Among thedifferent mechanisms involved, the incremental effect associatedwith each oviposition in a healthy host appeared to play the most important role. The relationship between the proximatemechanistic rules adopted by the females and the ultimate predictionof the Charnov model is discussed.  相似文献

In the adult stage, many parasitoids require hosts for their offspring growth and plant-derived food for their survival and metabolic needs. In agricultural fields, nectar provisioning can enhance biological control by increasing the longevity and fecundity of many species of parasitoids. Provided in a host patch, nectar can also increase patch quality for parasitoids and affect their foraging decisions, patch time residence, patch preference or offspring allocation. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of extrafloral nectar (EFN) provisioning close to hosts on parasitoid aggregation in patches. The aphid parasitoid Diaeretiella rapae (M’Intosh) was released inside or outside patches containing Brassica napus L. infested by Brevicoryne brassicae L. aphids and Vicia faba L. with or without EFN. When parasitoids were released outside patches, more parasitoids were observed in patches with EFN than in patches deprived of EFN. This higher recruitment could be linked to a higher attraction of a combination of host and food stimuli or a learning process. A release–recapture experiment of labeled parasitoids released within patches showed the higher retention of parasitoids in patches providing EFN and hosts, suggesting that food close to the host patch affects patch residence time. Both attractiveness and patch retention could be involved in the higher number of parasitoids foraging in host patches surrounded by nectar and for the higher parasitism recorded. Nectar provisioning in host patches also affected female offspring allocation inside the patch.  相似文献

The Asian citrus psyllid, Diaphorina citri Kuwayama (Hemiptera: Liviidae), is a significant citrus pest and the parasitoid Tamarixia radiata (Waterston) (Hymenoptera: Eulophidae) has been released in various citrus‐producing areas in classical biological control programs targeting D. citri. We investigated the effect of host deprivation on the foraging behavior and patch utilization by T. radiata. In the laboratory, females deprived of hosts for 3 days tended to leave patches of 12 nymphs without parasitizing hosts during the ca. 30 min they spent in the patch before leaving. Moreover, half of these females failed to host feed, and those that did host feed, on average, needed more than 15 min to complete feeding. Conversely, non‐host‐deprived females parasitized on average three nymphs before leaving patches without host feeding during the ca. 39 min they spent in the patch. These laboratory observations were compared to mass‐reared female T. radiata that were released onto colonies of D. citri nymphs infesting citrus in the field. Release vials were provisioned with honey and these females had no opportunities to host feed over the 1‐ to 2‐day containment period prior to release. When introduced onto D. citri colonies, 68% T. radiata females abandoned D. citri patches prior to probing hosts, in part, because Argentine ants, Linepithema humile (Mayr) (Hymenoptera: Formicidae), tending colonies disturbed searching parasitoids. These results from laboratory and field studies are discussed in the context of classical biological control, with the aim of understanding how to manipulate host availability and ant activity so establishment rates and impact of T. radiata can be improved.  相似文献

草地贪夜蛾Spodoptera frugiperda(Smith)是新入侵我国的重大危险性入侵害虫,赤眼蜂是我国生物防治的优势卵寄生蜂,可用于防治多种农林作物上的鳞翅目害虫。为检测东北地区本地赤眼蜂对草地贪夜蛾卵的生防潜能,筛选防治草地贪夜蛾的有效蜂种,本研究比较研究了松毛虫赤眼蜂、玉米螟赤眼蜂、黏虫赤眼蜂和稻螟赤眼蜂对草地贪夜蛾卵的寄生能力和发育适合度。结果表明,4种赤眼蜂均能寄生草地贪夜蛾卵,并完成发育,但其寄生能力和发育适合度存在显著差异。松毛虫赤眼蜂、玉米螟赤眼蜂和黏虫赤眼蜂对草地贪夜蛾卵块寄生率均高于80%,但仅松毛虫赤眼蜂对草地贪夜蛾卵表现出较高的卵粒寄生量。松毛虫赤眼蜂、玉米螟赤眼蜂和黏虫赤眼蜂子代羽化率和雌性比无显著差异,但松毛虫赤眼蜂比其它3种赤眼蜂的发育历期更短,而稻螟赤眼蜂对草地贪夜蛾卵的寄生能力和适合度均最差。研究结果将为应用本地赤眼蜂生物防治潜在入侵东北地区的草地贪夜蛾提供技术支撑。  相似文献

通过室内功能反应试验,测定松毛虫赤眼蜂T.dendrolimiMatsumura、短管赤眼蜂T.pretiosumRiley、暗黑赤眼蜂T.pintoiVoegele、玉米螟赤眼蜂T.ostriniaePangetChen、卷蛾分索赤眼蜂Trichogrammatoidea bactraeNagaraja、拟澳洲赤眼蜂T.confusumViggiani、舟蛾赤眼蜂T.closteraePangetChen、广赤眼蜂T.evanescensWestwood对广州地区重要园林害虫灰白蚕蛾的寄生能力。结果表明,除卷蛾分索赤眼蜂外,其它7种赤眼蜂对灰白蚕蛾的寄生作用均能用HollingⅡ型功能反应模型拟合。松毛虫赤眼蜂对灰白蚕蛾的寄生能力为最强,短管赤眼蜂和暗黑赤眼蜂次之,最大寄生卵量分别为25.8粒/雌、19.0粒/雌和18.6粒/雌,且在灰白蚕蛾卵内都能发育成功和正常羽化,可进一步进行筛选。虽然玉米螟赤眼蜂和舟蛾赤眼蜂对灰白蚕蛾有较强的寄生能力,但其后代雌蜂率都较低,且玉米螟赤眼蜂不能正常羽化,因此不适宜用来防治灰白蚕蛾。卷蛾分索赤眼蜂、广赤眼蜂和拟澳洲赤眼蜂的最大寄生量都较低,均不超过15.0粒,对灰白蚕蛾卵的寄生潜能不大。  相似文献

Abstract  This paper deals with alternative hosts of an egg parasitoid. Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura in three habitats: mixed forest, pure stand and sparse wood. The experiment was conducted in Liuyan County which is located in the eastern part of Hunan Province. The results suggested that there are 103 species of alternative Lepidopteran hosts for T. dendrolimi . There were two critical periods throughout the year when there were no eggs of Dendrolimus punctatus Walker and few eggs of alternative hosts available for ovipsition by the parasitoids.  相似文献

【目的】繁育寄主及成蜂日龄均会影响赤眼蜂体内的抱卵量,为了解繁育寄主及育出赤眼蜂个体大小与赤眼蜂抱卵量的关系,我们在室内研究了米蛾 Corcyra cephalonica(Stainton)卵和亚洲玉米螟 Ostrinia furnacalis (Güenée)卵作为繁育寄主对3种赤眼蜂雌蜂大小、抱卵量的影响。【方法】在光周期14L:10D、温度25±1℃的室内条件下,以米蛾卵、亚洲玉米螟卵作为繁育寄主,解剖不同日龄(羽化后12-72 h)松毛虫赤眼蜂 Trichogramma dendrolimi Matsumura、玉米螟赤眼蜂Trichogramma ostriniae Pang et Chen以及稻螟赤眼蜂Trichogramma japonicum Ashmead,观察雌蜂抱卵量,测量成蜂的大小,分析雌蜂抱卵量与其日龄、个体大小以及繁育寄主的关系【结果】在羽化后48 h以内,3种蜂的抱卵量随雌蜂日龄的增长而增加。羽化后72 h,除米蛾卵繁育的玉米螟赤眼蜂及玉米螟卵繁育的松毛虫赤眼蜂的抱卵量比羽化后48 h时略高外,其他组合均出现下降。以亚洲玉米螟卵为繁育寄主时的玉米螟赤眼蜂的抱卵量显著高于对应日龄的以米蛾卵为繁育寄主时的抱卵量,而松毛虫赤眼蜂(除羽化后12和24 h外)和稻螟赤眼蜂则相反;以米蛾卵为繁育寄主时,相同日龄的赤眼蜂中,松毛虫赤眼蜂抱卵量最高,稻螟赤眼蜂的抱卵量最低;以亚洲玉米螟卵为繁育寄主时,玉米螟赤眼蜂抱卵量最高,稻螟赤眼蜂抱卵量最低。雌蜂抱卵量与雌蜂个体大小呈线性正相关,相关程度随雌蜂日龄增加而更加明显。【结论】后足胫节长度可以作为评价松毛虫赤眼蜂、玉米螟赤眼蜂和稻螟赤眼蜂质量的指标。赤眼蜂抱卵量受繁育寄主、赤眼蜂蜂种及雌蜂日龄的显著影响,寄主的适合性也会影响育出赤眼蜂的大小,筛选合适的繁育寄主有助于提高赤眼蜂的质量。  相似文献

Abstract 1. Patch time allocation has been mostly studied in female parasitoids exploiting patches of hosts. Different parameters such as oviposition, host encounters, patch quality, etc. have been repeatedly shown to modify the time females invest on hosts. 2. Male parasitoids are expected to maximise their lifetime fitness by maximising the number of females inseminated during their life. Because they can be sperm and/or time limited, they should optimise their time allocation on emergence patches. 3. Patch time allocation thus appears to be an important question for both male and female parasitoids. 4. In this study, we determined the parameters used by males of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma turkestanica to decide when to leave the emergence patch. Among the different patch‐leaving parameters tested, only contacts with parasitised hosts and presence of virgin females significantly influenced the patch‐leaving tendency. 5. Our results suggest that males express behaviours that could enable them to optimise their patch exploitation time, as females do, but using different strategies.  相似文献

Trichogramma species have been successfully utilized for biocontrol of several lepidopteran pests worldwide. The development, survival and progeny production of two Kenyan species' Trichogramma bournieri Pintureau & Babault and Trichogramma sp. nr. mwanzai Schulten & Feijen (collected from Kenya), Trichogramma evanescens Westwood (Germany) and Trichogramma chilonis Ishii (India) was studied at four constant temperatures (13, 18, 25 and 34°C) with the 011 aim of assessing the relative biotic potential of the two native species for 011 biocontrol of Helicoverpa armigera and Plutella xylostella in Kenya. The study was conducted at the Institute 011 for Biological Control (BBA), Darmstadt, Germany. The Trichogramma species tested showed variations 011 in fertility, developmental time, percent emergence, progeny production and sex ratio 011 at the four temperature regimes. Fertility decreased as temperature increased from 25 to 34°C. 011 T. chilonis and T. evanescens completed development at all temperatures tested, but T. 011 bournieri and T. sp. nr. mwanzai failed to complete development at 13°C. The developmental 011 period for all the species decreased as the temperature increased. The duration of development from 011 oviposition to adult emergence varied from 8 days to 12 weeks shorter at 34°C than at 011 13°C for T. chilonis and T. evanescens . For the various temperatures tested, a linear model was 011 satisfactory for egg to adult development at P = 0.05 for T. chilonis and T. evanescens . The 011 lower temperature thresholds for development and duration in degree-days were 8.83°C and 188 for 011 T. chilonis and 9.23°C and 192 for T. evanescens , respectively. For all temperatures tested, 011 T. sp. nr. mwanzai had the highest preimaginal survivorship. Adult emergence was lower at 13°C and 34°C than at 011 18 and 25°C. The highest fertility (mean ±SE) (50.37 ±2.32 adult 011 female -1 ) and progeny production (44.03 ±2.02 adult female -1 ) was recorded at 25°C for 011 T. evanescens . Sex ratio was biased towards female at all temperatures in T. bournieri and T. chilonis . 011 At all temperatures tested, T . sp. nr. mwanzai produced more males than females. For all species tested, 011 favourable parasitism was between 18 and 25°C. The results from this study will be useful for mass rearing purposes as well as for future field release programmes.  相似文献

The age-specific fecundity of Trichogramma evanescens Westwood and T. cacoeciae Marchal (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) with Ephestia elutella (Hübner) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae: Phycitinae) as host and the life span of the adults with and without hosts was determined at 20, 26, 30 and 35 °C and 75 ±5% r.h. in the laboratory. At 35 °C, no progeny emerged. The availability of hosts prolonged the longevity in both species. Longevity, percentage of parasitism, fecundity, and the intrinsic rate of natural increase were higher in T. evanescens than in T. cacoeciae. Trichogramma evanescens is expected to be more effective than T. cacoeciae for use in biological control of Ephestia spp., especially at low and high temperatures.  相似文献

Abstract:  Eggs of the potato tuber moth (PTM) Phthorimaea operculella (Zeller) obtained from 150 or 300 Gy-irradiated moths, either inbred or out-crossed to untreated counterparts, were offered as host material to three generalist Trichogramma species; Trichogramma cacoeciae , Trichogramma evanescens , and Trichogramma principium , to determine the ability of these egg parasitoids to develop in F1 sterile eggs. All eggs laid by the different parental crosses at 150 or 300 Gy, were acceptable and suitable for Trichogramma development. However, in no choice and paired comparison tests, eggs from 300 Gy-irradiated parents were significantly less preferred compared with eggs laid by non-irradiated moths. No intra-specific differences for PTM sterile eggs were recorded among the tested Trichogramma species. The mean number of wasps emerging from each egg types was not affected by an interaction between parental crosses and applied doses. Overall, this study demonstrates that release of irradiated and non-irradiated moths at a 5 : 1 over-flooding ratio and Trichogramma over potatoes in small plexiglass boxes, is complementary and more effective in reducing PTM F1-emerged progeny than either technique used alone. The results provide baseline data for developing an integrated control approach by using inherited sterility technique in conjunction with Trichogramma for PTM population suppression.  相似文献

Parasitoids foraging for hosts in a heterogeneous environment would greatly benefit if they could decide already from a distance in which areas search for resources would be most profitable and to avoid areas of low fitness returns. Interestingly, the temporal dynamics of the decision process in parasitoid patch choice have rarely been investigated. In a Y-tube olfactometer, we tested whether thelytokous and arrhenotokous females of the parasitoid wasp Venturia canescens (Gravenhorst) (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae) respond to differences in cues indicating the quality of a host-containing patch and choose more profitable patches. Special attention was given to the time it took females to make their choices (patch choice time) when differences in patch quality were either qualitative (absence vs. presence of hosts and kairomone) or quantitative (various concentrations of hosts and kairomone, and presence of competitors). We found that both thelytokous and arrhenotokous wasps only chose the higher-quality patch based on odor cues when the difference was qualitative. When patches differed only with respect to the number of hosts, or the presence or absence of competing female parasitoids, no significant preference could be found in females of either strain of the parasitoid. In contrast, both the time until females reached the junction of the Y-tube olfactometer (response time) and the time until females decided for either patch (decision time) varied with parasitoid strain and odor treatment. Thelytokous wasps were faster than arrhenotokous wasps in their response time and in their decision time. However, females of both strains responded faster with increasing number of total hosts releasing kairomone. Yet, decision time for patches did not significantly vary as a function of patch quality offered to Venturia wasps.  相似文献
