The analysis of reciprocal genetic crosses between resistant Helicoverpa armigera strain (BH-R) (227.9-fold) with susceptible Vadodara (VA-S) strain showed dominance (h) of 0.65-0.89 and degree of dominance (D) of 0.299-0.782 suggesting Cry1Ac resistance as a semi-dominant trait. The D and h values of F1 hybrids of female resistant parent were higher than female susceptible parent, showing maternally enhanced dominance of Cry1Ac resistance. The progeny of F2 crosses, backcrosses of F1 hybrid with resistant BH-R parent did not differ significantly in respect of mortality response with resistant parent except for backcross with female BH-R and male of F1 (BH-R × VA-S) cross, suggesting dominant inheritance of Cry1Ac resistance. Evaluation of some biological attributes showed that larval and pupal periods of progenies of reciprocal F1 crosses, backcrosses and F2 crosses were either at par with resistant parent or lower than susceptible parent on treated diet (0.01 μg/g). The susceptible strain performed better in terms of pupation and adult formation than the resistant strain on untreated diet. In many backcrosses and F2 crosses, Cry1Ac resistance favored emergence of more females than males on untreated diet. The normal larval period and the body weight (normal larval growth) were the dominant traits associated with susceptible strain as contrast to longer larval period and the lower body weight (slow growth) associated with resistance trait. Further, inheritance of larval period in F2 and backcross progeny suggested existence of a major resistant gene or a set of tightly linked loci associated with Cry1Ac sensitivity.  相似文献

A field population of Typhlodromus pyri (Acari: Phytoseiidae) tolerant to mancozeb was selected in the laboratory. After 10 mancozeb selections the LC50 value for mancozeb was 73 times higher in the selected-10 strain compared to the standard susceptible strain. A genetic analysis using reciprocal crosses and backcrosses of female F1 progeny found no maternal effect. Resistance in the selected-10 strain was codominant in expression, dominance value was about −0.1. Backcrosses between F1 females and the susceptible strain indicate that the resistance to mancozeb could be principally conferred by a predominant gene, but additional factors would also be involved.  相似文献

We studied inheritance of resistance to dicrotophos in greenhouse whitefly,Trialeurodes vaporariorum Westwood (Homoptera, Aleyrodidae). Compared with females from a field-collected susceptible strains (S), females from a resistant strain (R) ofT. vaporariorum derived from heavily treated cotton fields had a 28-fold greater LC50 to dicrotophos in laboratory bioassays. Concentration-mortality lines obtained from female progeny of reciprocal F1 crosses (R XS and S XR) were similar, suggesting that inheritance of dicrotophos resistance was autosomal and not influenced by maternal effects. Responses of F1 female progeny were similar to those of the parental S strain, indicating that the resistance was partially recessive (degree of dominance, D, was −0.61). Mortality observed in female progeny obtained from a backcross (F1♀ XR) corresponded more closely to expectations derived from polygenic models than to expectations from a monogenic model. The estimated number of effective factors (sensu Lande, 1981) contributing equally to resistance was three.  相似文献

The genetic inheritance of resistance to a commercial formulation of Bacillus thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki was examined in a Trichoplusia ni colony initiated from a resistant population present in a commercial vegetable greenhouse in British Columbia, Canada. Progeny of F1 reciprocal crosses and backcrosses between F1 larvae and resistant (PR) and susceptible (PS) populations were assayed at different B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki concentrations. The responses of progeny of reciprocal F1 crosses were identical, indicating that the resistant trait was autosomal. The 50% lethal concentration for the F1 larvae was slightly higher than that for PS, suggesting that resistance is partially recessive. The responses of both backcross progeny (F1 × PR, F1 × PS) did not correspond to predictions from a single-locus model. The inclusion of a nonhomozygous resistant parental line in the monogenic model significantly increased the correspondence between the expected and observed results for the F1 × PR backcross but decreased the correspondence with the F1 × PS backcross results. This finding suggests that resistance to B. thuringiensis subsp. kurstaki in this T. ni population is due to more than one gene.  相似文献

We report on the observation of sex-restricted, non-Mendelian inheritance over a region of mouse Chromosome (Chr) 11, occurring in the offspring of crosses between two commonly used Mus musculus-derived inbred strains, C57BL/6J and DBA/2J. In the surviving backcross progeny of reciprocal matings between (C57BL/6J × DBA/2J)F1 hybrids and the C57BL/6J parental strain, we observed the preferential appearance of C57BL/6J alleles along a region of Chr 11. The deviation from Mendelian predictions was observed only in female offspring from both reciprocal backcrosses, and not in males from either cross. The sex-specificity of the observed non-Mendelian inheritance points to an explanation based on embryonic or neonatal lethality. Our data add to previously obtained evidence for a Chr 11 locus or loci with sex-specific and allele-specific effects on viability. Received: 19 December 1997 / Accepted: 10 June 1998  相似文献

A probit analysis of the dosage-response of two isolates of Spodoptera frugiperda to a single nuclear polyhedrosis virus revealed a greater than 5-fold difference in the LD50. The response of F1 progeny of reciprocal crosses between the two parental isolates demonstrated that resistance to the virus is not sex-linked. The LD50 values of F1 and F2 backcrosses suggest that the major variation in resistance is due to a single gene or genes that lack dominance.  相似文献

Wild-type strains of the interfertile species Chlamydomonas eugametos (UTEX 9 and 10) and Chlamydomonas moewusii (UTEX 96 and 97) male readily and reciprocally; however, considerable lethality occurs among F1 hybrid meiotic products. We prepared two hybrid backcross lineages using C. eugametos and C. moewusii. One lineage began with the cross C. eugametos mating-type-plus (mt+) × C. moewusii mating-type-minus (mt?). An F1 mt+ hybrid from this cross was back-crossed to C. moewusii mt?, and a B1 mt+ hybrid was recovered. The B1 hybrid was again backcrossed to C. moewusii mt?, and this process was repeated through the fifth backcross. The other backcross lineage began with the reciprocal cross C. moewusii mt+× C. eugametos mt? and employed C. eugametos as the recurring mt? parent. This lineage also was continued through the fifth backcross. Meiotic product survival in the reciprocal interspecific crosses was less than 10%. In successive back-cross generations associated with both lineages, this value increased progressively to a maximum of 85–90%, the level observed for the intraspecific crosses. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that multiple genetic differences exist between C. eugametos and C. moewusii and that these are the major source of meiotic product lethality associated with the interspecific crosses. The inheritance of chloroplast genetic markers for resistance to streptomycin (sr-2) and for resistance to erythromycin (er-nM1) was also scored w the interspecific crosses and in the backcrosses. Most hybrid zygospores transmitted the resistance markers of the mt+ parent only, or of both parents, with the former zygospore type being more common. Although the intraspecific C. eugametos and C. moewusii crosses differ conspicuously with respect to the fraction of zygospores which transmit chloroplast genetic markers of both parents, the inheritance of chloroplast genetic markers in the interspecific crosses and backcrosses at' scribed here failed to clarify the genetic basis for this difference.  相似文献

A field strain of Spodoptera littoralis Biosduval was selected against Cry1C toxin derived from Bacillus thuringiensis entomocidus for 10 subsequent generations under laboratory conditions. Selection pressure resulted in a 29‐fold resistance ratio compared with the susceptible strain. Inheritance of Cry1C resistance was partially dominant and autosomal on the basis of bioassay response to Cry1C toxin in a reciprocal cross between male and/or female F1. Consistent with earlier findings, resistance was recessive at high concentrations of Cry1C toxin. However, the dominance of resistance increased as the concentration of Cry1C decreased. Analysis of survival and growth of progeny from a backcross (F1 × resistance strain) suggested that resistance was controlled by either a single or a few loci in cotton leafworm.  相似文献

Crosses between strains belonging to the Tetranychus urticae complex often reveal some degree of mortality in the eggs laid by the F4 females. Two such strains were studied. Non-Mendelian features characterize the F1 infertility: F1 females of the same cross differ considerably regarding mortality in their eggs, reciprocal crosses give different results and the degree of egg mortality changes when the F1 female gets older. Moderate changes in physical circumstances and the quality of the host plant have little or no influence on egg mortality. Haploid eggs, laid by virgin F1 females, suffer considerably more mortality than eggs fertilized by sperm from the paternal or the maternal strain. Nine generations of repeated backcrossing to males of the original paternal strain did not result in a notable reduction of egg mortality, although evidence from another study (De Boer, unpublished) makes it highly unlikely that agents with a strictly maternal inheritance are involved.  相似文献

Cytosine methylation appears to be established as an important DNA base modification involved in regulation of gene expression but is poorly understood from an evolutionary viewpoint. Xiphophorus progeny from inter-species crosses and backcrosses that are utilized in contemporary tumor induction studies were analyzed for cytosine methylation pattern inheritance using Southern blot analyses. Methylation patterns at CCGG sequences of 411 independent chromosomes in three distinct inter-species crosses were analyzed. In every case the non-recurrent parental methylation pattern remained unaltered for each of the genes studied, once introduced into the recurrent parental genetic background. Through F1 inter-species hybridization and succeeding meiosises leading to first generation (BC1) and second generation (BC2) backcross hybrid progeny, we demonstrate that parental species methylation patterns are stable.  相似文献

Summary Procedures are described for efficient selection of: (1) homozygous and heterozygous S-allele genotypes; (2) homozygous inbreds with the strong self- and sib-incompatibility required for effective seed production of single-cross F1 hybrids; (3) heterozygous genotypes with the high self- and sib-incompatibility required for effective seed production of 3- and 4-way hybrids. From reciprocal crosses between two first generation inbred (I1) plants there are three potential results: both crosses are incompatible; one is incompatible and the other compatible; and both are compatible. Incompatibility of both crosses is useful information only when combined with data from other reciprocal crosses. Each compatible cross, depending on whether its reciprocal is incompatible or compatible, dictates alternative reasoning and additional reciprocal crosses for efficiently and simultaneously identifying: (A) the S-allele genotype of all individual I1 plants, and (B) the expressions of dominance or codominance in pollen and stigma (sexual organs) of an S-allele heterozygous genotype. Reciprocal crosses provide the only efficient means of identifying S-allele genotypes and also the sexual-organ x S-allele-interaction types.Fluorescent microscope assay of pollen tube penetration into the style facilitates quantitation within 24–48 hours of incompatibility and compatibility of the reciprocal crosses. A procedure for quantitating the reciprocal difference is described that maximizes informational content of the data about interactions between S alleles in pollen and stigma of the S-allele-heterozygous genotype.Use of the non-inbred Io generation parent as a known heterozygous S-allele genotype in crosses with its first generation selfed (I1) progeny usually reduces at least 7 fold the effort required for achieving objectives 1, 2, and 3, compared to the method of making reciprocal crosses only among I1 plants.Identifying the heterozygous and both homozygous S-allele genotypes during the I1 generation facilitates, during subsequent inbred generations, strong selection for or against modifier genes that influence the intensity of self- and sib-incompatibility. Selection for strong self and sib incompatibility can be effective for both homozygous inbreds and also for the S-allele heterozygote, thus facilitating production of single-cross F1 hybrids and also of 3-and 4-way hybrids.Department of Plant Breeding and Biometry paper No. 690  相似文献

Laboratory crosses were carried out among three genetically differentiated Los Angeles populations (all located within approximately 15 km) and one San Diego population (approximately 150 km away) of the intertidal copepod Tigriopus californicus. Despite high levels of allozyme differentiation, all crosses produced viable F1 progeny. Most F1 progeny had shorter developmental times and reduced variance in developmental times compared to the parental populations. Only one pair of populations failed to produce viable F2 progeny; when the central Los Angeles population (AB) was crossed to the San Diego (SD) population, most larvae died during the late naupliar stages. Developmental times in the F2 generation of the other Los Angeles × San Diego crosses were typically 40% longer than developmental times of the parental populations. Among the Los Angeles populations, only one cross (and not its reciprocal) showed a similarly large increase in developmental time. Variance in F2 developmental times was greater than the parental variance in 5 of 10 crosses. These results are discussed with regard to the evolution of coadapted gene complexes and population differentiation in T. californicus.  相似文献

The combining abilities of field resistance to peanut bud necrosis disease (PBND) caused by Peanut bud necrosis tospovirus (PBNV) were examined to understand the type of gene action governing resistance to the disease, and to identify peanut lines suitable for use as parents in a PBND‐resistance breeding programme. The Ft and F2 progenies from a six‐parent diallel cross and their parents were evaluated under field conditions. They were assessed for disease incidence at 30, 40, 50 and 60 days after planting (DAP), and reactions of the lines to the disease could be best differentiated at 50 and 60 DAP. Results indicated highly significant general combining ability (GCA) effects for PBND incidence in F1 and F2 generations. Specific combining ability (SCA) and reciprocal effects were also found to be significant, but their relative contributions to variation among crosses were much less than those of GCA effects. These results suggested that the type of gene action governing resistance to PBND was mainly additive, and selection for PBND resistance in these populations should be effective. Strong correlation coefficients between parental means and GCA effects for disease incidence were seen in both Ft and F2 generations, suggesting that per se performance of the parental line could be used as a predictor of the capability of the line to transmit its PBND‐resistant attribute to progenies. The reciprocal effects were in favour of using resistant lines as female parents. The peanut lines ICGV 86388, 1C 10 and 1C 34 were found to be suitable for use in a PBND–resistance breeding programme.  相似文献

Khalil G. M., Hoogstraal H. and Oliver J. H. Jr. 1980. Biological evaluation of the systematic validity of the African Argas (Persicargas) arboreus and the Asian-Australian A.(P.)robertsi (Ixodoidea: Argasidae). International journal for Parasitology10: 253–259. The closely related A. (P.)arboreus (Ethiopian Faunal Region) and A. (P.) robertsi (Oriental and Australian Faunal Regions) interbreed readily and produce partially fertile progeny. Intrahybrid crosses are much less productive than P1 homogamic crosses. Results of backcrosses indicate that the progeny of the robertsi ♂ × arboreus ♀ cross are less fertile than the progeny of the reciprocal cross. The fertility of F1 hybrid progeny is lower than that of the P1 pure species as expressed in lower female fecundity, egg hatch, and/or viability of immature stages. These 2 species probably originated from a common ancestor and geographic isolation caused genetic incompatibility.  相似文献

Summary AnS 1.1 self-incompatible (SI) petunia plant which showed atypical seed set was found in an I7 population. This plant showed a strong SI reaction when selfed but produced varying amounts of seed when used as the seed parent in crosses with unrelated individuals homozygous for the sameS allele. Reciprocal crosses yielded no seed indicating that the reaction was a stylar response. Self seed obtained by high temperature treatments produced 18 plants, all of which exhibited the parental characteristics, the ability to reject self pollen but accept, to varying degrees, pollen bearing the sameS allele from unrelated plants. Several petunias homozygous forS 1, and exhibiting various levels of PSC as determined by self seed set, progeny tests and temperature treatments, were used as pollen parents. The mean seed set of these crosses produced a ranking of the pollen parents which reflected the PSC levels obtained by other methods. The behavior of the F1 and F2 populations suggests that the pollen discriminating ability may be a simply inherited, dominant character in these plants. The styles of these unusual petunias illustrate the participation of the pollen tube in determining PSC.Scientific Journal Series Paper Number 10.479 of the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station  相似文献

In response to emerging interest in commercial mass production of Trichogramma for Helicoverpa armigera biocontrol in eastern Africa, laboratory experiments were undertaken to assess the scope for genetic enhancement of the parasitisation potential of native strains of the local common trichogrammatid species, Trichogrammatoidea sp. nr. lutea. Four promising strains (ex-Kilifi – Kilifi District, ex-Kwa Chai – Kibwezi District, ex-Rarieda – Bondo District and ex-Ebuhayi, Kakamega District) were tested for cross-mating in reciprocal combinations with focus on fecundity and progeny female ratio. While all the crosses resulted in F1 progeny of both sexes, significant differences were observed between homogamic and reciprocal heterogamic crosses in fecundity, progeny production, proportion of female progeny and adult longevity. Among all the crosses, the cross between ex-Rarieda strain females and ex-Kilifi strain males resulted in progeny that was significantly superior in fecundity and progeny female ratio. Conversely, Kilifi strain females crossed to males from ex-Rarieda strain gave rise to progeny with relatively low fecundity and female ratio. There were significant differences between homogamic crosses and most reciprocal heterogamic crosses in the major biological attributes. Genotypic and phenotypic variance-covariance matrices generated for six life-history traits showed high positive correlations for most traits in both inbred (P<0.05) and reciprocal heterogamic crosses (P<0.05 and P<0.001). Fecundity and number of female offspring were the most important factors in the heterogamic crosses. The results confirmed the scope for genetic enhancement through inter-strain crossing for improving the field impact potential of T. sp. nr. lutea being targeted for commercial mass production.  相似文献

Transcobalamin 2 is the only vitamin B12-binding protein found in mouse serum. Two allelic forms of mouse transcobalamin 2 are described. The two forms differ in their mobilities on polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The slowly migrating form has been found in serum from 25 inbred mouse strains. The more rapidly migrating form was detected in 3 inbred mouse strains (NZB, ST/bJ, and CPB-WV). Both parental variants were expressed in F1 progeny of appropriate interstrain crosses, showing codominant expression of the transcobalamin 2 alleles. In backcrosses between F1 and parental individuals, the two electrophoretic variants were inherited as single Mendelian traits. The strain distribution pattern of the two variants in recombinant inbred lines likewise suggested a single-gene mode of inheritance and indicated a lack of close linkage with a number of genetic loci on chromosomes 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 12, 14, 15, and 17. We propose the symbol Tcn-2 for the polymorphic gene locus coding for transcobalamin 2 in the mouse and Tcn-2 s and Tcn-2 f for the two alleles.  相似文献

Genetic variation in the synthesis of halogenated secondary metabolites in the Japanese marine red alga Laurencia nipponica Yamada (Rhodomelaceae, Ceramiales) has been investigated in laboratory crossing experiments and chemical analyses, F1 tetrasporophytes and F1 gametophytes resulting from crosses within chemical races produced major metabolites characteristic of these races. F1 tetrasporophytes derived from reciprocal interracial crosses produced: (i) both parental types of secondary metabolites; (ii) either of the parental types; or (iii) a further major compound in addition to both parental types or in addition to either of the parental types. The latter cases suggest that hybrid-specific products were formed by the combined enzymatic complements of the parents, as F1 gametophytes derived from these interracial F1 tetrasporophytes yielded one or other of their parental products in an approximate 1:1 ratio. The population structure was analyzed at localities in Hokkaido, where two of the chemical races occur sympatrically. At Usujiri (Minami-kayabe), where the prepacifenol race and the laureatin race were sym-patric, hybrid gametophytes (recombination type) were found in high frequency in addition to hybrid tetra sporophytes, which strongly suggests that a new, pre-pacifenol/laureatm race is beginning to be produced by natural hybridization and recombination. By contrast, at Oshoro Bay, where the laurencin race and the epi-lauraliene race grew together, the interracial hybrids were rare: only a few tetrasporophytes (probably F1 generation) were found, suggesting that racial integrity may be retained by habitat segregation and/or the absence of recombination-type gametophytes.  相似文献

Identifying the contribution of pre‐ and postzygotic barriers to gene flow is a key goal of speciation research. The widespread dung fly species Sepsis cynipsea and Sepsis neocynipsea offer great potential for studying the speciation process over a range of opportunities for gene exchange within and across sister species (cross‐continental allopatry, continental parapatry and sympatry). We examined the role of postcopulatory isolating barriers by comparing female fecundity and egg‐to‐adult viability of F1 and F2 hybrids, as well as backcrosses of F1 hybrids with the parental species, via replicated crosses of sym‐, para‐ and allopatric populations. Egg‐to‐adult viability was strongly but not totally suppressed in hybrids, and offspring production approached nil in the F2 generation (hybrid breakdown), indicating yet unspecified intrinsic incompatibilities. Viable F1 hybrid offspring showed almost absolute male (the heterogametic sex) sterility while females remained largely fertile, in accordance with Haldane's rule. Hybridization between the two species in European areas of sympatry (Swiss Alps) indicated only minor reinforcement based on fecundity traits. Crossing geographically isolated European and North American S. neocynipsea showed similar albeit weaker isolating barriers that are most easily explained by random genetic drift. We conclude that in this system with a biogeographic continuum of reproductive barriers, speciation is mediated primarily by genetic drift following dispersal of flies over a wide (allopatric) geographic range, with some role of natural or sexual selection in incidental or direct reinforcement of incompatibility mechanisms in areas of European sympatry. S(ubs)pecies status of continental S. neocynipsea appears warranted.  相似文献

Reproductive compatibility was studied among populations of different types of the citrus red mite, Panonychus citri (McGregor ), i.e., the diapausing type from pear (DP), the non-diapausing type from citrus (C) and that from pear (NP). Copulation was also observed between mates of different types (DP and C). Only in crosses between C ♀ and DP ♂, was copulation occasionally broken off prematurely; duration of copulation varied considerably between pairs and the average duration was much shorter than that between DP ♀ and C ♂ and than that in crosses between mates of the same types. No F1 adult females were produced at all from crosses between DP and C, showing that there was a complete reproductive isolation between the two types. There was a significant reciprocal difference in the egg hatchability and survival rate of immatures in the F1 progeny; mortality in the eggs and that in the immature stage were significantly higher in crosses between DP ♀ and C ♂, as compared to those in the reciprocal cross. This suggested that fertilization may have occurred in the former cross, whereas it seemed that eggs were not fertilized in crosses between the C ♀ and DP ♂. The NP was compatible with the C, whereas it was completely incompatible with the DP. Thus, there was a complete reproductive incompatibility between the diapausing and non-diapausing type of P. citri.  相似文献
