Treatment of simulated wastewater containing 40 mg/l of 4-chlorophenol (4-CP) was carried out in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor under methanogenic condition. The performance of this test UASB reactor was evaluated in terms of 4-CP removal. Hydraulic retention time (HRT) and substrate:co-substrate ratio for the 4-CP removal was optimized by varying the influent flow rate (13-34.7 ml/min) and sodium acetate concentration (2-5 g/l), respectively. A control UASB reactor, which was not exposed to 4-CP was also operated under similar conditions. Organic loading rate (OLR) was varied in the range of 2-5.3 kg/m(3)/d and 1.7-4.2 kg/m(3)/d, respectively, for HRT and substrate:co-substrate ratio studies, respectively. The optimum HRT and substrate:co-substrate ratio for the removal of 4-CP was 12h and 1:75, respectively. Removal of 4-CP achieved at optimum HRT and substrate:co-substrate ratio was 88.3+/-0.7%. Removal of 4-CP occurred through dehalogenation and caused increase in chloride ion concentration in the effluent by 0.23-0.27 mg/mg 4-CP removed. The ring cleavage test showed the ortho mode of ring cleavage of 4-CP. Change in the elemental composition of the anaerobic biomass of UASB reactors was observed during the study period. Concentration of Ca(2+) increased in the biomass and this could be attributed to the biosoftening. Specific methanogenic activity of the sludge of control and test UASB reactor was 0.832 g CH(4) COD/g VSS d and 0.694 g CH(4) COD/g VSS d, respectively.  相似文献

The inhibitory effects and removal efficiency of dieldrin (DLD) in anaerobic reactors were investigated. Anaerobic toxicity assay (ATA) experiments conducted in batch reactors revealed that 30 mg/l DLD had inhibitory effects on the unacclimated mixed anaerobic cultures. Continuous reactor experiments performed in a lab-scale two-stage upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor system which was fed with ethanol as the sole carbon source, indicated that anaerobic granular cultures could be successfully acclimated to DLD. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiencies were 88-92% for the two-stage system. The influent DLD concentration of 10 mg/l was removed by 44-86% and 86-94% in the second stage and overall UASB system, respectively. Biosorption of DLD on granular anaerobic biomass was found to be a significant mechanism for DLD removal in the UASB system. The maximum DLD loading rate and minimum HRT achievable for the first stage UASB reactor were 0.5 mg/lday (76 microg DLD/g VSS.day) and 10 h, respectively, which resulted in the overall COD removal efficiency of 85%.  相似文献

The effect of three different types of glycerol on the performance of up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors treating potato processing wastewater was investigated. High COD removal efficiencies were obtained in both control and supplemented UASB reactors (around 85%). By adding 2 ml glycerol product per liter of raw wastewater, the biogas production could be increased by 0.74 l biogas ml−1 glycerol product, which leads to energy values in the range of 810–1270 kWhelectric per m3 product. Moreover, a better in-reactor biomass yield was observed for the supplemented UASB reactor (0.012 g VSS g−1 CODremoved) compared to the UASB control (0.002 g VSS g−1 CODremoved), which suggests a positive effect of glycerol on the sludge blanket growth.  相似文献

The purpose of this work was to evaluate and compare two continuous systems of posttreatment of anaerobically pretreated weak black liquor (WBL). The first system consisted of a packed bed reactor (PBR) with Trametes versicolor (Tv) immobilized on wood cubes of holm oak (biocubes). The second system was a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) with Lentinus edodes (Le) immobilized on wood cubes of holm oak. The reactors operated for 65 days at a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 5 days, at 28 degrees C, with continuous aeration. Response variables monitored were conventional and specific, unit, net removal efficiency (eta and eta(sun), respectively) of chemical oxygen demand (COD), color, and ligninoids, and enzymatic activities of manganese peroxidase (MnP), lignin peroxidase (LiP), laccase (Lac) and proteases. The PBR showed an average color eta superior to that of the FBR (52.42 +/- 21.78% and 25.34 +/- 14.38% for PBR and FBR, respectively); removals of COD and ligninoids presented a similar pattern to that of color. Lac activity was significantly larger in PBR than in FBR. Activity of MnP in PBR was higher than that of the FBR (0.004 and 0.002 U MnP/mL, respectively). This difference could be ascribed to the different fungi present in each bioreactor. LiP activity was very low in both reactors. Average value of proteases was almost double in the FBR as compared with PBR (0.472 and 0.209 U Proteases/mL, respectively). During the last 2 weeks of operation, biocubes in the FBR experienced a significant loss of the attached Le biomass, probably by attrition. This and higher protease activity in the FBR could explain the lower pollutant removals achieved in the FBR. Overall, PBR with immobilized Tv showed a better performance than the FBR with Le for the posttreatment of the recalcitrant anaerobic effluent. Extended and sustained pollutant removal (65 days) was achieved in the PBR, although more research is needed to evaluate bioreactor performance at shorter hydraulic retention times.  相似文献

A thermophilic upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor was combined with a mesophilic aerobic fluidized bed (AFB) reactor for treatment of a medium strength wastewater with 2,700?mg COD?l?1. The COD removal efficiency reached 75% with a removal rate of 0.2 g COD?l?1 h?1 at an overall hydraulic retention time 14 hours. The distribution of microbial activity and its change with hydraulic retention time in the two reactors were investigated by measuring ATP concentration in the reactors and specific ATP content of the biomass. In the UASB reactor, the difference in specific ATP was significant between the sludge bed and blanket solution (0.02?mg ATP g VS?1 versus 0.85?mg ATP g VS?1) even though the ATP concentrations in these two zones were similar. A great pH gradient up to 4 was developed along the UASB reactor. Since a high ATP or biological activity in the blanket solution could only be maintained in a narrow pH range from 6.5 to 7.5, the sludge granules showed a high pH tolerance and buffering capacity up to pH 11. The suspended biomass in AFB reactor had a higher specific ATP than the biomass fixed in polyurethane carriers (1.6?mg ATP g VS?1 versus 1.1?mg ATP g VS?1), which implies a starvation status of the immobilized cells due to mass transfer limitation. The aerobes had to work under starvation conditions in this polishing reactor. The anaerobic biomass brought into AFB reactor contributed to an increase in suspended solids, but not the COD removal because of its fast deactivation under aerobic conditions. A second order kinetic model was proposed for ATP decline of the anaerobes. The results on distribution of microbial activity in the two reactors as well as its change with hydraulic retention time lead to further performance improvement of the combined anaerobic/aerobic reactor system.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to estimate the BOD(5) and COD removal efficiency and biomass yield coefficient in sequencing batch reactors (SBR) treating landfill leachate. Experiments were carried out in four SBRs at HRT of 12, 6, 3 and 2d. Two series were performed. In series 1, the reactors were operated in a 24h cycle mode (anoxic 3h, aeration 18 h, settling 2.75 h, and discharge 0.25 h). In series 2, however, the anoxic phase was eliminated. In both series the BOD(5) removal efficiency was almost identical--over 98%. On shortening HRT from 12 to 2d, COD removal efficiency decreased from 83.1% to 76.7% (series 1). In series 2, efficiency ranged from 79.6% to 75.7%. In the reactors working with the anoxic phase the observed biomass yield coefficient (Y(obs)) was nearly constant (0.55-0.6 mg VSS/mg COD). Upon elimination of the anoxic phase, the Y(obs) was observed to decrease from 0.32 mg VSS/mg COD (HRT 2d) to 0.04 mg VSS/mg COD (HRT 12d).  相似文献

Anaerobic degradation performance of a laboratory-scale packed-bed reactor (PBR) was compared with two fluidized-bed biofilm reactors (FBRs) on molasses and whey feeds. The reactors were operated under constant pH (7) and temperature (35 degrees C) conditions and were well mixed with high recirculation rates. The measured variables were chemical oxygen demand (COD), individual organic acids, gas composition, and gas rates. As carrier, sand of 0.3-0.5 mm diameter was used in the FBR, and porous clay spheres of 6 mm diameter were used in the PBR. Startup of the PBR was achieved with 1-5 day residence times. Start-up of the FBR was only successful if liquid residence times were held low at 2-3 h. COD degradations of 86% with molasses (90% was biodegradable) were reached in both the FBR and PBR at 6 h residence time and loadings of 10 g COD/L day. At higher loadings the FBR gave the best performance; even at 40-45 g COD/L day, with 6 h residence times, 70% COD was degraded. The PBR could not be operated above 20 g COD/L day without clogging. A comparison of the reaction rates show that the PBR and FBR per formed similarly at low concentrations in the reactors up to 1 g COD/L, while above 3 g COD/L the rates were 17.4 g COD/L day for the PBR and 38.4 g COD/L day for the FBR. This difference is probably due to diffusion limitations and a less active biomass content of the PBR compared with the fluidized bed.The results of dynamic step change experiments, in which residence times and feed concentrations were changed hanged at constant loading, demonstrated the rapid response of the reactors. Thus, the response times for an increase in gas rate or an increase in organic acids due to an increase in feed concentration were less than 1 day and could be explained by substrate limitation. Other slower responses were observed in which the reactor culture adapted over periods of 5-10 days; these were apparently growth related. An increase in loading of over 100% always resulted in large increases inorganic acids, especially acetic and propionic, as well as large increases in the CO(2) gas content. In general, the CO(2) content of the gas was very low, due to the large amount of dissolved CO(2) that exited with the liquid phase at low residence times. The performance of the FBR with whey was comparable to its performance with molasses, and switching of molasses to whey feed resulted in immediate good performance without adaptation.  相似文献

The C:N ratio of the pharmaceutical wastewaters is usually suitable for a combination of the anaerobic pretreatment with the high COD removal and aerobic posttreatment with the efficient biological N removal. This kind of anaerobic-aerobic process was tested in semipilot scale by using a UASB reactor and an activated sludge system with a predenitrification (total volume 100 1). It was found that at a total HRT of 2.3 days an average of 97.5% of COD and 73.5% of total N was removed. The UASB reactor was operated at 30°C with a volumetric loading rate of 8.7 kg.m-3.d-1, the efficiency of COD removal was 92.2%. The processes, which take part in the biological removal of nitrogen, especially the nitrification, were running with lower rates than usually observed in aerobic treatment systems.Abbreviations AAO anaerobic anoxic oxic configuration - AOO anaerobic oxic oxic configuration - B V volumetric organic loading rate (kg COD.m-3. d-1) - dB x specific COD removal rate (mg COD. g-1 VSS. d-1) - DNR denitrification rate (mg N–NO3. g-1 VSS. h-1) - ECOD efficiency of COD removal (%) - HRT hydraulic retention time (d) - NR nitrification rate (mg N–NO3. g-1 VSS. h-1) - R recirculation ratio (%) - SBP specific biogas production (m3.kg-1 removed COD) - SRT solids retention time; sludge age (d) - SS suspended solids (g.1-1) - UASB upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor - VSS volatile suspended solids (g.1-1)  相似文献

The effect of cationic polymer additives on biomass granulation and COD removal efficiency had been examined in lab-scale upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors, treating low strength synthetic wastewater (COD 300-630 mg/l). Under identical conditions, two reactors were operated with and without polymer additives in inoculum under four different organic loading rates (OLRs). The optimum polymer dose was adopted based upon the results of jar test and settling test carried out with inoculum seed sludge. With the use of thick inoculum, SS greater than 110 g/l and VSS/SS ratio less than 0.3, granulation was observed in UASB reactor treating synthetic wastewater as well as actual sewage, when OLR was greater than 1.0 kg COD/m(3) d. Polymer additive with such thick inoculum was observed to deteriorate percentage granules and COD removal efficiency compared to inoculum without polymer additives. At OLR less than 1.0 kg COD/m(3) d, proper granulation could not be achieved in both the reactors inoculated with and without polymer additive. Also, under this low loading, drastic reduction in COD removal efficiency was observed with polymer additives in inoculum. Hence, it is rational to conclude that biomass granulation for treatment of low strength biodegradable wastewater depends on the applied loading rate and selection of thick inoculum sludge.  相似文献

The anaerobic degradation of terephthalate as sole substrate was studied in three anaerobic upflow reactors. Initially, the reactors were operated as upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors and seeded with suspended methanogenic biomass obtained from a full-scale down-flow fixed film reactor, treating wastewater generated during production of purified terephthalic acid. The reactors were operated at 30, 37, and 55 degrees C. The terephthalate removal capacities remained low in all three reactors (<4 mmolxL-1xday-1, or 1 g of chemical oxygen demand (COD)xL-1xday-1) due to limitations in biomass retention. Batch experiments with biomass from the UASB reactors revealed that, within the mesophilic temperature range, optimal terephthalate degradation is obtained at 37 degrees C. No thermophilic terephthalate-degrading culture could be obtained in either continuous or batch cultures. To enhance biomass retention, the reactors were modified to anaerobic hybrid reactors by introduction of two types of reticulated polyurethane (PUR) foam particles. The hybrid reactors were operated at 37 degrees C and seeded with a mixture of biomass from the UASB reactors operated at 30 and 37 degrees C. After a lag period of approximately 80 days, the terephthalate conversion capacity of the hybrid reactors increased exponentially at a specific rate of approximately 0.06 day-1, and high removal rates were obtained (40-70 mmolxL-1xday-1, or 10-17 g of CODxL-1xday-1) at hydraulic retention times between 5 and 8 h. These high removal capacities could be attributed to enhanced biomass retention by the development of biofilms on the PUR carrier material as well as the formation of granular biomass. Biomass balances over the hybrid reactors suggested that either bacterial decay or selective wash-out of the terephthalate fermenting biomass played an important role in the capacity limitations of the systems. The presented results suggest that terephthalate can be degraded at high volumetric rates if sufficiently long sludge ages can be maintained, and the reactor pH and temperature are close to their optima.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to study the influence of influent chemical oxygen demand (COD), upflow velocity of wastewater, and cationic polymer additives in inoculum, on biomass granulation and COD removal efficiency in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor for treating low strength wastewater. Statistical models were formulated based on these three variables to optimize the biomass granulation and COD removal efficiency in UASB reactors using a two-level, full factorial design. For the thick inoculum used in this study, having suspended solids (SS) >80 g/l and volatile suspended solids (VSS) to SS ratio <0.3, cationic polymer additives in the inoculum showed adverse effect on biomass granulation and COD removal efficiency. It is concluded that for such thick inoculum, granulation can be obtained while treating low strength wastewaters in UASB reactor by selecting proper combination of influent COD and liquid upflow velocity so as to represent the organic loading rate (OLR) greater than 1.0 kg COD/m(3) d. Validation of model predictions for treatment of synthetic wastewater and actual sewage reveals the efficacy of these models for enhancing granulation and COD removal efficiency.  相似文献

The kinetics of anaerobic digestion of cane molasses distillery slops was investigated using a continuous-flow bioreactor which contained waste tyre rubber as support, to which the microorganisms became immobilized. Hydraulic retention times (HRT) ranging from 1 to 10 days were investigated at an average influent chemical oxygen demand (COD) concentration of 47.7?g/l. The maximum substrate utilization rate, k, and half saturation coefficient, K L, were determined to be 1.82?kg CODremoved/kg VSS day and 0.33?kg COD/kg VSS day. The yield coefficient, Y, and sludge decay rate coefficient, K d, were also determined to be 0.06?kg VSS/kg CODremoved and 0.05?day-1, respectively. Methane production was maximum (6.75?l/l day) at a 2 day HRT corresponding to a biomass loading rate of 2.578?kg COD/kg VSS day. Biogas yield ranged between 0.51?l/g COD (HRT=2 days) and 0.25?l/g COD (HRT=1?day). In addition, the methane percentage in the biogas varied between 70.5% (HRT=10?days) and 47.5% (HRT=1?day). The close relationship between biomass loading rate and specific substrate utilization rate supported the use of Monod equations. Finally, the experimental values of effluent substrate concentration were reproduced with deviations equal to or less than 10% in every case.  相似文献

The UASB process for wastewater treatment has been extensively studied, but the use of zeolite to improve UASB reactor performance has rarely been explored. In this study, a UASB reactor modified with natural zeolite operating at high nitrogen concentrations (0.5, 0.7 and 1 g/L) was evaluated. Two laboratory bioreactors, one with zeolite and one without, were operated at ambient temperatures ranging between 18 °C and 21 °C. The experimental phase had a start-up period of 21 days. In the reactor with zeolite, the pH was found to be between 7.9 and 9.1, with a COD removal efficiency of about 60% after 80 days of operation at ammonia concentrations of between 0.229 and 0.429 g/L in the effluent. In the reactor without zeolite, the pH was between 8.3 and 9.3, and the COD removal efficiency was about 40% at ammonia concentrations between 0.244 and 0.535 g/L in the effluent. The addition of zeolite also decreased the volatile suspended solids (VSS) concentration in the effluent, generating a biomass with larger granules and higher settling rates as compared to a UASB reactor without zeolite. Taking the lower ammonia concentration, the higher COD removal and the improved granulation into account, it can be concluded that natural zeolite positively influenced the behavior and performance of the UASB reactor operating with high nitrogen concentrations.  相似文献

The effect of the trace metal cobalt on the conversion of methanol in an upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactor was investigated by studying the effect of cobalt deprivation from the influent on the reactor efficiency and the sludge characteristics. A UASB reactor (30 degrees C; pH 7) was operated for 261 days at a 12-h hydraulic retention time (HRT). The loading rate was increased stepwise from 2.6 g chemical oxygen demand (COD) x L reactor(-1) x d(-1) to 7.8 g COD x L reactor(-1) x d(-1). Cobalt deprivation had a strong impact on the methanogenic activity of the sludge. In batch tests, the methanogenic activity of the sludge with methanol as the substrate increased 5.3 (day 28) and 2.1 (day 257) times by addition of 840 nM of cobalt. The sludge had an apparent K(m) for cobalt of 948 nM after 28 days of operation and 442 nM at the end of the run. Cobalt deprivation during 54 days of operation led to a methanol conversion efficiency of only 55%. Continuous addition of cobalt (330 nM) for 33 days improved the methanol removal efficiency to 100%. In this period of cobalt dosing, the cobalt concentration in the sludge increased 2.7 times up to 32 microg x g TSS(-1). Upon omission of the cobalt addition, cobalt washed-out at a stable rate of 0.1 microg x g VSS(-1) x d(-1). At the end of the run, the cobalt concentration of the sludge was similar to that of the seed sludge.  相似文献

The ability of an anaerobic hybrid reactor, treating coffee wastewater, to achieve a quick start-up was tested at pilot scale. The unacclimatized seed sludge used showed a low specific methanogenic activity of 26.47 g CH4 as chemical oxygen demand (COD)/kg volatile suspended solids (VSS) x day. This strongly limited the reactor performance. After a few days of operation, a COD removal of 77.2% was obtained at an organic loading rate (OLR) of 1.89 kg COD/m3 x day and a hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 22 h. However, suddenly increasing OLR above 2.4 kg COD/m3 x day resulted in a deterioration in treatment efficiency. The reactor recovered from shock loads after shutdowns of 1 week. The hybrid design of the anaerobic reactor prevented the biomass from washing-out but gas clogging in the packing material was also observed. Wide variations in wastewater strength and flow rates prevented stable reactor operation in the short period of the study.  相似文献

Zinc deprivation of methanol fed anaerobic granular sludge bioreactors   总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
The effect of omitting zinc from the influent of mesophilic (30 degrees C) methanol fed upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) reactors, and latter zinc supplementation to the influent to counteract the deprivation, was investigated by coupling the UASB reactor performance to the microbial ecology of the bioreactor sludge. Limitation of the specific methanogenic activity (SMA) on methanol due to the absence of zinc from the influent developed after 137 days of operation. At that day, the SMA in medium with a complete trace metal solution except Zn was 3.4 g CH4-COD g VSS(-1) day(-1), compared to 4.2 g CH4-COD g VSS(-1) day(-1) in a medium with a complete (including zinc) trace metal solution. The methanol removal capacity during these 137 days was 99% and no volatile fatty acids accumulated. Two UASB reactors, inoculated with the zinc-deprived sludge, were operated to study restoration of the zinc limitation by zinc supplementation to the bioreactor influent. In a first reactor, no changes to the operational conditions were made. This resulted in methanol accumulation in the reactor effluent after 12 days of operation, which subsequently induced acetogenic activity 5 days after the methanol accumulation started. Methanogenesis could not be recovered by the continuous addition of 0.5 microM ZnCl2 to the reactor for 13 days. In the second reactor, 0.5 microM ZnCl2 was added from its start-up. Although the reactor stayed 10 days longer methanogenically than the reactor operated without zinc, methanol accumulation was observed in this reactor (up to 1.1 g COD-MeOH L(-1)) as well. This study shows that zinc limitation can induce failure of methanol fed UASB reactors due to acidification, which cannot be restored by resuming the continuous supply of the deprived metal.  相似文献

In this study, performance of a lab-scale hybrid up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor, treating a chemical synthesis-based pharmaceutical wastewater, was evaluated under different operating conditions. This study consisted of two experimental stages: first, acclimation to the pharmaceutical wastewater and second, determination of maximum loading capacity of the hybrid UASB reactor. Initially, the carbon source in the reactor feed came entirely from glucose, applied at an organic loading rate (OLR) 1 kg COD/m(3) d. The OLR was gradually step increased to 3 kg COD/m(3) d at which point the feed to the hybrid UASB reactor was progressively modified by introducing the pharmaceutical wastewater in blends with glucose, so that the wastewater contributed approximately 10%, 30%, 70%, and ultimately, 100% of the carbon (COD) to be treated. At the acclimation OLR of 3 kg COD/m(3) d the hydraulic retention time (HRT) was 2 days. During this period of feed modification, the COD removal efficiencies of the anaerobic reactor were 99%, 96%, 91% and 85%, and specific methanogenic activities (SMA) were measured as 240, 230, 205 and 231 ml CH(4)/g TVS d, respectively. Following the acclimation period, the hybrid UASB reactor was fed with 100% (w/v) pharmaceutical wastewater up to an OLR of 9 kg COD/m(3) d in order to determine the maximum loading capacity achievable before reactor failure. At this OLR, the COD removal efficiency was 28%, and the SMA was measured as 170 ml CH(4)/g TVS d. The hybrid UASB reactor was found to be far more effective at an OLR of 8 kg COD/m(3) d with a COD removal efficiency of 72%. At this point, SMA value was 200 ml CH(4)/g TVS d. It was concluded that the hybrid UASB reactor could be a suitable alternative for the treatment of chemical synthesis-based pharmaceutical wastewater.  相似文献

A two-stage anaerobic treatment pilot plant was tested for the treatment of raw domestic wastewater under temperatures ranging from 21 to 14 degrees C. The plant consisted of a hydrolytic upflow sludge bed (HUSB) digester (25.5m3) followed by an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) digester (20.36m3). The hydraulic retention time (HRT) varied from 5.7 to 2.8h for the first stage (HUSB digester) and from 13.9 to 6.5h for the second stage (UASB digester). Total suspended solids (TSS), total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD), and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) removals ranged from 76% to 89%, from 49% to 65%, and from 50% to 77%, respectively, for the overall system. The percentage of influent COD converted to methane was 36.1%, the hydrolysis of influent volatile suspended solids (VSS) reached 59.7% and excess biomass was 21.6% of the incoming VSS. Plant performance was influenced by the wastewater concentration and temperature, yet better results were obtained for influent COD higher than 250mg/l.  相似文献

PVA-gel beads were used as a biocarrier in a lab-scale UASB reactor treating synthetic wastewater composed of corn steep liquor (CSL) with the aim of evaluating its use as a growth nucleus to enhance granule formation. Over 117 days of operation, the organic loading rate was increased to 22.5kgCOD/m(3)/day with an influent COD of about 10.8g/L at an HRT of 12h with COD removal efficiencies greater than 87%. By the end of the study period, the PVA-gel turned black and granule formation was achieved as compared with the formation of much fewer natural granules without the PVA-gel nucleus. No filamentous bacteria were found on the surface or interior of the PVA-gel beads. The PVA-gel granules had an average settling velocity 200m/h (5cm/s), and a biomass attachment of 0.93g VSS/g PVA-gel. The required time for formation of PVA-gel granules was thus demonstrated to be shorter than that of ordinary sludge granules under the experimental conditions used in this study.  相似文献

Two lab-scale anaerobic hybrid reactors (AHR) were operated to investigate the effect of recirculated biogas on the development of biomass on supporting media during the start-up. The reactor comprised of two distinct zones; sludge bed on the bottom and packed bed using nylon fiber as the media on the upper half of the reactor. Both reactors were continuously fed with cassava starch wastewater. The organic loading rate (OLR) was increased from 0.3 to 5.5 g COD/L/day by gradually decreasing the hydraulic retention time (HRT) from 37 to 3.5 days in two months. The biogas at 2.6 L/L/day was recirculated merely in the first month of the operation in order to allow the attached biomass to grow according to the organic matters present in the reactor at the final stage of the start up. Chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal efficiency of over 80% was achieved throughout the study. The result demonstrated a better COD removal efficiency for the reactor with biogas recirculation, especially at low HRTs. The amounts of biomass accumulated on the media in both reactors were slightly different with 11.9 gVSS found on the one with biogas recirculation compared to 9.8 gVSS on the other. In addition, 16.3% increase of the sludge bed was achieved with biogas recirculation as opposed to 9% in the control one. The attached biomass activity test indicated a greater amount and more favorable ratio of the methanogenic bacterial group on the media with the recirculation correlating well to a relatively higher methane content in biogas. As a result, the recirculation of biogas has a potential of improving the characteristics of the AHR especially in terms of biomass accumulation.  相似文献
