The effects of insecticide and fungicide applications to swedes (Brassica napus var. napobrassica) were examined at 15 sites in England from 1974 to 1978. Several different pesticide combinations were applied including carbofuran granules at drilling (63 mg a. i./m of row), demeton-S-methyl sprays (0·24 kg a. i./ha) and fluotrimazole sprays (0·18 kg a. i./ha). The best treatments, which varied in different years, gave significantly higher yields than no treatment in 12 out of a total of 15 trials, with varying levels of damage attributable to cabbage root fly (Delia brassicae), aphids (Myzus persicae) and powdery mildew (Erysiphe cruciferarum) in each of the 4 years. In 10 of 12 trials, plots receiving a complete insecticide and fungicide programme yielded on average 40% (range 21–61%) more than untreated plots, mainly through control of root fly and aphids in 1975 and of aphids and mildew in 1976. Aphid damage to swedes was exceptionally severe in both years. Granular formulations of aldicarb, carbofuran, chlorfenvinphos or fonofos used alone to prevent cabbage root fly damage gave significant yield benefits in only 8 of the 15 trials, with least effect in 1977 and 1978 when growing conditions for swedes were good and damage relatively light.  相似文献

Carrot, cauliflower and radish seedlings raised in sand culture and treated with aqueous suspensions containing chlorfenvinphos, diazinon, iodofenphos or triazophos were planted into the field in 1982 and 1983 to compare the performance against cabbage root fly and carrot fly of these treatments with that of bow-wave applications of granular formulations at sowing. Initial residue concentrations were up to 4100 mg kg-1 in the seedlings at planting. Thereafter the amounts of insecticides per root system declined. Residue concentrations in mature carrot and radish roots were smaller when plants had been treated as seedlings rather than by bow-wave application. Chlorfenvinphos was the most effective insecticide against both pests. Amounts of insecticide applied in transplanted seedlings were < 5% of the amounts applied by the bow-wave method but short-term control of cabbage root fly on radish was similar. Carrot fly damage was reduced by 60% by some of the seedling treatments after 16 wk in 1982 but in 1983 they were less effective. Pot experiments with chlorfenvinphos showed that most of the insecticide in the seedlings was transferred rapidly into the surrounding soil and it was concluded that the bioactivity resulted mainly from uniform distribution of the released insecticide between and around individual plants.  相似文献

Tractor mounted equipment is needed to deliver granular formulations of pesticides accurately to the soil in small-plot trials in a manner comparable to commercial equipment. Inexpensive units incorporating a belt unit mechanism were designed and fitted to a Mk II Stanhay S-870 Precision Seed-Spacing Drill. The individual delivery belts were driven through a continuously-variable reduction gearbox by the main drive shaft of the drill and pre-weighed amounts of granules were placed along the belts. Insecticides and dose patterns could thereby be changed readily from plot to plot. In field assessments of uniform doses of fuller's earth granules delivered to single row, 4·8 and 10·3 m plots, the mean weights recovered were 94–98% of the target doses, S.E.'s being ±2% of the means. When 16-fold, exponentially-increasing doses were delivered, the weights recovered were generally within 10% of the target dose at any point within 0·2 m from the start and 0·3 m from the finish of the plot. The performance of uniform doses of carbofuran (on sand) and chlorfenvinphos (on Spanish Silical) against cabbage root fly on radish in 15 m plots showed that errors in loading were insignificant compared with the variability in pest infestation on the field plots. With doses increasing exponentially by c. 12-fold applied to similar plots, the percentage of carrots or radish undamaged by carrot fly and cabbage root fly increased from 40–60% to 85–99·3%, the relationship between the log-log proportion of undamaged roots and log-dose being linear. The equipment allows free-flowing, granular pesticide products to be applied to small plots of a wide range of row-crops much more accurately than has hitherto been possible. A work rate of 24 plots h-1 was achieved by a team of two technicians and a tractor driver.  相似文献

In nine trials done in 1972-4 seed treatments reduced attacks of onion fly larvae very effectively and most of the organophosphorus formulations gave protection up to harvest, 12–17 wk after sowing. Pirimiphos-ethyl and isofen-phos each at 10 or 20 g a.i./kg seed controlled onion fly larvae well and they were not seriously phytotoxic in any of the trials. Chlorpyrifos, trichloronate, ethion, iodofenphos, chlorfenvinphos wettable powder or triazophos all at iog a.i./kg seed were also effective, but they were tested in fewer trials. Diazinon at 10 or 20 g a.i./kg seed, carbophenothion and chlorfenvinphos liquid seed dressing at 10 g a.i./kg seed controlled onion fly well, but in some trials they were phytotoxic; methiocarb, mecarphon and oxamyl were much less effective. At 1–12 kg a.i./ha chlorfenvinphos granules applied over the rows shortly before the attack was expected was the best granular formulation, but it was not as effective as the better seed treatments.  相似文献

Effects of combinations of insecticides and herbicides on the growth and yield of cauliflower plants (cvs No. 110, Garant and Strong) were determined in two field experiments with seed drilled to give a stand of c. 300000 plants/ha. Granular formulations of chlorfenvinphos or fonofos were applied by the bow-wave method at 2 kg a.i./ha to control cabbage root fly (Delia brassicae). Weeds were successfully controlled with combinations of trifluralin, incorporated into the soil at 0·6 or 1·2 kg a.i./ha before drilling, and propachlor, applied pre-emergence at 2·2 or 4·4 kg a.i./ha. Fonofos, with and without herbicides, significantly lessened (P < 0·01) numbers of seedlings that would survive to harvest. Herbicides and chlorfenvinphos generally did not significantly affect the emergence of healthy seedlings of any cultivar. Combinations of herbicides and chlorfenvinphos were compatible for control of target species. Chlorfenvinphos reduced root damage by at least 50% but did not significantly increase (P > 0·05) the total or marketable weight of curds. Numbers of curds were not usually affected and consistent effects of treatments on maturation periods of the three cultivars were not detected.  相似文献

Chlorogenic acid (1·24-3·36 mg/g) was identified as the main phenolic component in the peel of carrots by hplc analysis. The higher the concentration of chlorogenic acid in different cultivars the greater the susceptibility to carrot fly larval damage. Increases in concentration were found both after carrot fly damage and after carrots had overwintered in the field. The presence and location of chlorogenic acid was confirmed in sections of carrot tissues, mounted in 0·05 M ammonia solution by viewing them using a u.v.-epifluorescent microscope. The importance of phenolic compounds and their function in the production of insect cuticle is discussed in relation to the different concentrations of chlorogenic acid and resistance to carrot fly in carrots.  相似文献

Seed treatment with iprodione at 125 and 150 g a.i./kg was superior to calomel seed treatment at 500 g a.i./kg in reducing disease losses and increasing yields in field experiments with salad onions infected with white rot; iprodione at 50, 62·5 and 100 g a.i./kg and thiophanate-methyl at 150 g a.i./kg were as effective as calomel. Furrow treatment with iprodione or thiophanate-methyl at 0·05 and 0·15 g a.i./m row or calomel at 0·5 g a.i./m row gave similar control as equivalent rates of seed treatment. Neither seed nor furrow treatments gave adequate control with prolonged exposure of the crop to the disease. A single stem base spray of iprodione at 0·0625 g a.i./m row applied 5 wk after drilling, reduced losses from 46% with a standard calomel seed treatment to 20%; increasing the stem base spray concentration to 0·25 g a.i./m row did not improve the control but resulted in a doubling of yields. The most effective control was obtained with iprodione applied as a seed treatment at 62·5 g a.i./kg combined with a single stem base spray at 0·0625 g a.i./m row 5 wk after drilling and this reduced losses to 6% compared with losses of 46% with calomel treated seed and 88% with untreated seed; increasing the stem base spray concentration did not improve control but resulted in higher yields.  相似文献

Dry powder, liquid and microencapsulated formulations of organophosphate and synthetic pyrethroid insecticidal seed treatments were tested as possible alternatives to the standard organochlorine seed treatments for autumn-sown wheat in mineral and organic soils heavily infested with wheat bulb fly eggs and (subsequently) larvae. Retention of insecticides on the seed coat varied from 40% to 120% of the target dose; it was usually good when microencapsulated formulations were used. Chlorfenvinphos, fonofos, isofenphos and triazophos, each applied at 2-0 g a.i./kg seed, were phytotoxic, the symptoms varying from a slight delaying effect upon germination to an adverse effect upon grain yield. Chlorfenvinphos at 0–2 to 2-0 g a.i./kg seed was consistently effective against wheat bulb fly larvae in both mineral and organic soils. Athidathion 0–8 g a.i./kg, carbophenothion 1–2 g a.i./kg, ethion 1–7 g a.i./kg and fonofos (microencapsulated formulations) at 1-0 or 2-0 g a.i./kg were also effective in mineral and organic soils. Of the synthetic pyrethroids tested as seed treatments, permethrin gave excellent results in mineral soils at 1-0 g a.i./kg or in synergised formulations at 0–12 or 0–24 g a.i./kg but was disappointing in organic soils. In a single comparison of seed treatments applied to wheat sown early (14 October) and late (20 November), chlorfenvinphos was effective at both sowing dates whereas athidathion, ethion and pirimiphos-ethyl gave better results in late-sown wheat. A single trial compared deep with shallow sowing of treated seed. Most insecticides performed better on shallow-sown wheat, but chlorfenvinphos was equally effective against the pest at both sowing depths. Most insecticides restricted the numbers of larvae entering host plants but had little or no subsequent effect upon larval survival within attacked shoots. Fonofos and isofenphos, and to a lesser extent chlorfenvinphos, seed treatments additionally killed many larvae within plant shoots.  相似文献

Granular and liquid formulations of chlorfenvinphos were applied to a sandy-loam as continuous logarithmically-changing doses of approximately 0.2 to 4.0 kg a.i./ha and radish were sown immediately and 23 days after treatment. After 62 days, insecticide concentrations in the soil had not diminished detectably in the granule treatment but had declined by about 20% in the liquid treatment. In both sowings, residues in the harvested radish were higher, dose-for-dose, from the granule than from the liquid treatment and with both formulations were lower in the second than in the first sowing. Within treatments there were log-log relationships between the dose of insecticide and residue concentrations in the soil and radish. In both sowings the residues were most variable between replicate soil and crop samples from the granule treatment. In the first sowing, cabbage root fly damage was reduced most by the liquid treatment but in the second sowing equivalent doses of the two formulations gave similar protection. At 2.0, 2.24 or 3.0 kg a.i./ha, chlorfenvinphos incorporated before sowing protected radish better than pre-sowing or pre-emergence applications to the soil surface. When applied before sowing, the liquid formulation gave better protection and lower residue concentrations in the radish than the granules. As a post-emergence spray, chlorfenvinphos was much more effective than fonofos, diazinon or triazophos but it was often phytotoxic, decreased yield significantly, left large residues in the radish in two of the four experiments and, in common with other surface treatments, substantially decreased the Z:E chlorfenvinphos isomer ratio. Although a single application of granules protected two successive radish crops, it was concluded that third and subsequent sowings on the same land should probably be treated with smaller doses to limit terminal residues.  相似文献

The effects of first generation carrot fly larval damage on chlorogenic acid concentration in carrots was investigated in a field experiment at Wellesbourne in 1985. In a separate experiment carrots grown in the absence of a resident population of carrot fly were also analysed for chlorogenic acid; these carrots maintained low concentrations of chlorogenic acid through the summer and autumn until low ground temperatures occurred from November to January. The relationship between chlorogenic acid concentration and damage by the first generation of carrot fly was described by a similar model to the one derived previously for late-generation damage but without the cultivar dependence. This may have been because first generation damage takes place in mid-summer when soil temperature is not sufficiently low for differential chlorogenic acid production by carrot cultivars. The model supports the hypothesis that carrot fly damage increases chlorogenic acid production which subsequently encourages further attack. The increase in acid production due to the low winter temperature may be the mechanism which, in turn, induced a differential cultivar response in carrots harvested during the winter.  相似文献

A field experiment was used to assess the effectiveness of different barriers in protecting garden‐scale carrot production from carrot fly (Psila rosae (Fabricius)) damage. Some of the vertical barriers tested were found to provide a useful method of protecting early season carrots from carrot fly in terms of the percentage of carrots free from damage but, under cumulative pest pressure of several generations of carrot fly, such barriers were found to provide insufficient protection. Gardeners should therefore completely cover their carrot crop to attain an acceptable level of control, and this was found to be especially important for carrots harvested later in the season. There were positive effects of some barrier types on yield which may be due, at least in part, to the protection given by the barriers to carrot seedlings.  相似文献

Eight carrot cultivars representing the range of resistance to carrot fly damage as assessed in England were grown at 12 sites in five European countries in 1977 and in 1978. The trials provided evidence of agreement with the findings in England for both years in the ranking of cultivars with respect to their resistance to carrot fly damage. The Nantes cultivar Clause's Sytan Original was the most resistant cultivar tested. Consistent results were obtained from sites where carrots were assessed at harvest and carrot fly attack was severe. A significant interaction between sites and cultivars was largely due to sites where carrots were stored prior to assessment.  相似文献

The induction of rat liver microsomal monooxygenase by pretreatment of rats with dieldrin affords a 10-fold protection against the acute toxic effects of the organophosphorus insecticide, chlorfenvinphos. Metabolism studies were carried out to confirm that the protection was due to an enhanced rate of detoxification (via oxidative deethylation). At low doses of chlorfenvinphos (2.5 mg · kg?1), dieldrin pretreatment caused minimal changes in the metabolic profiles. However, at a higher dose (13.2 mg · kg?1), giving clinical signs of intoxication in the control animals, the dieldrin pretreated rats produced 5 times more deethylchlorofenvinphos than did the control animals. The results support the conclusion that the effect of enzyme induction on the metabolism of substrates of that enzyme are dosedependent. Alterations in metabolism, therefore, are not an automatic consequence of enzyme induction.  相似文献

Aims: Producing granular cultures of obligate aphid pathogen Pandora nouryi for improved sporulation and storage. Methods and Results: Small millet–gel granules were made of the mixtures of 80–95% millet powder with 5–20% polymer gel (polyacrylamide, polyacrylate or acrylate‐acrylamide copolymer) and inoculated with mycelia at 30 mg biomass g?1 dry granules plus 87·5% water, followed by static incubation at 20°C for 4–12 days. The fungus grew well on 12 preparations but best on that including 10% copolymer. An 8‐day culture of this preparation discharged maximally 58·5 × 104 conidia mg?1 granule at 100% RH and was capable of ejecting conidia at the nonsaturated regimes of 86–97% RH. During storage at 6°C, granular cultures with >85% water content had twofold longevity (120 days) and half‐decline period (34–36 days) of those stored at room temperature. The steadily high water content preserved the cultures better than that decreasing at 6°C. However, conidia from 70‐day‐stored granules were less infective to Myzus persicae nymphs than those from fresh ones based on their LC50s. Conclusions: The millet–gel granules had higher sporulation capacity than reported Pandora cultures and a capability of spore discharge at nonsaturated humidity. Significance and Impact of the Study: The granular cultures are more useful for aphid control.  相似文献

In laboratory tests the distribution of insecticide in peat–chalk mushroom casing greatly affected the number of adult sciarids which emerged from larvae placed in 50 g samples. Only thionazin markedly reduced emergences when granules were clumped in the centre of the sample of casing. The slope of dosage mortality data for clumped granule treatments was less steep than for mixtures and gave estimated LD95 values of 16300 and 26.8 ppm respectively. Thus, the number of adults which emerged when granules amounting to 6.4 mg of chlorfenvinphos were clumped was 65% of those emerging when only 0.4 mg a.i. was mixed into 50 g casing. However, adults did not emerge when 3.2 mg of the same insecticide was mixed throughout the sample. Increased doses did not, therefore, compensate for inadequate mixing. With 0.2–0.4 mg a.i. chlorfenvinphos mixed through the casing, about three times as many sciarids emerged with the intact granules than when pulverized granules were used. This showed the lack of mobility of this chemical in peat-chalk mixtures and the need for it to be homogeneously incorporated in commercial casing. Pirimiphos-ethyl, diazinon and thionazin also gave improved kills when mixed into the casing rather than clumped. A χ2 test of the mortality data suggested a non-linear dosage-mortality relationship for treatments amounting to half the dish. However, LD95 estimates of 37.5 and 62.2 ppm were obtained for mixed and quadrant treatments. Thus, when 3.2 mg chlorfenvinphos was mixed into only half of the volume of casing, the number of adults emerging was only 6% of that from untreated casing. However, larval movement was negligible in untreated casing and this appeared to limit the effectiveness of chlorfenvinphos and pirimiphos-ethyl when they were not evenly distributed throughout the casing. With thionazin and diazinon, mobility of the insecticide appeared to compensate for uneven distribution.  相似文献

Several apiaceous and two asteraceous species were tested for their suitability to support larval development of the carrot fly. Plants grown in pots or transplanted from seed beds into pots, were inoculated with a specific number of eggs. Pupae and non-pupated larvae were collected 6–7 wk after inoculation. Both the number and weights of pupae produced varied widely among the species. Cultivated carrots Daucus carota sativus often gave rise to only moderate numbers of pupae, but these invariably attained the highest weights. Pimpinella major was the only apiaceous plant tested that did not yield any carrot flies. The two asteraceous plants Cichorium intybus and Tanacetum vulgare failed to support larval development. Total carrot fly biomass produced per plant was influenced by both the host species and the root weight. Emergence rates of adult flies were positively correlated with pupal weights. Small individuals tended to have a longer total developmental time from egg to adult fly.  相似文献

ISOLATION OF AN ACID-SOLUBLE BASIC PROTEIN FROM MONKEY BRAIN   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:1  
—A basic protein, soluble in 0·1 m -perchloric acid, has been purified from brain of Macaca irus. The protein is homogeneous as indicated by ultracentrifugation, gel filtration, gel isoelectric focusing and gel electrophoresis at pH 2·9, 4·3 and 7·5. The molecular weight is estimated to be 16,000 by electrophoresis in sodium dodecyl sulphate–polyacrylamide gels. This result is in agreement with the value of 16,728 obtained from the amino acid analysis. The protein dimerizes under alkaline conditions. The predominant amino acid is glycine (15%) and the protein also contains 4% cysteine. The ratio of acidic to basic amino acids is 1·6, but a high amide content gives the protein a basic character. An isoelectric point of 9·5 is observed in gel isoelectric focusing.  相似文献

Domestication of plants and selection for agronomic traits may reduce plant secondary defence metabolites relative to their ancestors. Carrot (Daucus carota L.) is an economically important vegetable. Recently, carrot was developed as a functional food with additional health-promoting functions. Biofortified carrots contain increased concentrations of chlorogenic acid as an antioxidant. Chlorogenic acid is involved in host plant resistance to Western Flower Thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis), one of the key agri- and horticultural pests worldwide. The objective of this study was to investigate quantitative host plant resistance to thrips in carrot and to identify candidate compounds for constitutive resistance. As such we explored whether cultivated carrot is more vulnerable to herbivore attack compared to wild carrot. We subjected a set of 14 biofortified, cultivated and wild carrot genotypes to thrips infestation. We compared morphological traits and leaf metabolic profiles of the three most resistant and susceptible carrots using nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy (NMR). In contrast to our expectation, wild carrots were not more resistant to thrips than cultivated ones. The most thrips resistant carrot was the cultivar Ingot which is known to be tolerant against carrot root fly (Psila rosae). Biofortified carrots were not resistant to thrips. Plant size, leaf area and number of leaf hairs did not differ between resistant and susceptible carrots. The metabolic profiles of the leaves of resistant carrots were significantly different from those of susceptible carrots. The leaves of resistant carrots contained higher amounts of the flavanoid luteolin, the phenylpropanoid sinapic acid and the amino acid β-alanine. The negative effect of these compounds on thrips was confirmed using in-vitro bioassays. Our results have potential implications for carrot breeders. The natural variation of metabolites present in cultivated carrots can be used for improvement of thrips resistance. This is especially promising in view of the candidate compounds we identified since they do not only confer a negative effect on thrips but as antioxidants also play an important role in the improvement of human health.  相似文献

In field trials between 1973 and 1982 families of carrots of cv. Long Chantenay were assessed for their resistance to carrot fly (Psila rosae). In some but not all years, families selected for their observed resistance in earlier trials seemed more resistant than the parent line. In more than half the trials there was an association between carrot fly damage and root density, there being less damage on those families from which more roots were harvested. Thus, family selection within cv. Long Chantenay did not lead to a consistent improvement in resistance to carrot fly. Alternative strategies for achieving plant resistance to this pest are discussed.  相似文献

The benefits of combining a partially-resistant carrot cultivar with different sowing and lifting dates to reduce carrot fly, Psila rosae, damage were investigated at Wellesbourne in 1983 and 1984-85. The partially-resistant cv. Sytan was less damaged and supported fewer insects than the susceptible cv. Danvers on all lifting dates. The estimated reduction of carrot fly larvae on Sytan compared with Danvers ranged from 33 to 95%. Nine combinations of sowing and lifting dates provided more than 75% marketable roots of Sytan compared with only three combinations of dates for Danvers. An early June sowing of both cultivars provided roots of a marketable size with the least attack. More than 90% of Sytan roots were still marketable in December and fewer insects were produced by the end of the season on these roots than on those sown earlier. In addition, sowing in June decreased the number of pupae produced on cv. Danvers by 10 times compared with earlier sowings. Combining partial resistance with specific sowing and lifting times enabled satisfactory yields of marketable carrots to be obtained in a field infested by high populations of carrot fly.  相似文献
