Apart from in cystic fibrosis, where sweat analysis provides valuable diagnostic information, sweat yields remain an overlooked biological fluid. Technical problems (dilution, condensation, contamination, evaporation, etc.) linked to currently available collection procedures are of concern and thwart their use. To overcome some of these technical difficulties, an original sweat-collection technique is described. A collection capsule is created inside a flexible, adhesive and disposable anchoring membrane pasted onto the skin. A fluid-tight window is positioned in the upper part of the pocket and gives access to its content. Through the collection window, complete emptying of the sweat collector can be achieved repeatedly by suction using a vacutainer tube inserted in a tube holder equipped with a long dull needle. With prior addition of a suitable marker, fractional samplings can also be performed using a precision micropipette. This collecting method allows for kinetic studies on sweat rate and sweat content. The limited bias-inducing manipulations linked to the described technique, coupled with the ease of performing kinetic studies on sweat volume and content, make this original tool a reliable and accurate sweat-collection technique.  相似文献

The collector is an adaptive algorithm for pattern recognition. It proposes new in-line fully-automatic technique to learn and recognize effective patterns of input data stream. Evoked potentials (EP) were recorded by ADDA 100 KHz, 4 channels, and described by 200 points per each EP. The collector recognized different studies of conditioned response (CR) by patterns of EPs in amygdalar central nucleus. In dogs with implanted into the limbic structures concentric electrodes an instrumental CR was elaborated to electrical stimulation of the dorsal hippocampus. Generalization or transfer of this CR was tested by means of electrostimulation of amygdalar basal nucleus. The generalization in the first experiment took place approximately in 86% of cases, in the second one in 52% of cases. In the first experiment the amplitudes of initial negativity and of late positive waves were smaller than those in the second one and in the experiments before conditioning.  相似文献

Septal fracture in simple nasal bone fracture   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
SUMMARY: Nasal bone fractures are the most common type of facial fractures. Previous studies have shown that most nasal fractures involve the septum, which can provide an obstacle to the successful reduction of nasal bone fractures. In particular, septal fractures in combination with simple nasal bone fractures are usually unrecognized and untreated at the time of injury. Furthermore, systemized treatment protocols and diagnostic tools for septal fractures in the case of simple nasal bone fracture have not previously been presented. In this study, the clinical findings of septal fractures in cases of simple nasal bone fracture were correlated with symptoms, signs, and computed tomography findings and assessed statistically. The patterns of septal fractures in simple nasal bone fractures were assessed by direct vision via hemitransfixion incision. Of the 52 patients with simple nasal bone fracture who presented over a 3-year period and were included in this study, 10 were female and 42 were male, with an average age of 33.8 years (age range, 18 to 61 years). Fifty of these patients (96.2 percent) showed septal fractures, and septoplasty or submucosal resection was performed on 41 patients (78.8 percent) who manifested severe septal fractures of perioperative septal grade 3 or higher. Closed reduction of the nasal bone fracture only was performed on the remaining 11 patients. Among the signs evident at physical examination, mucosal tearing was found to be statistically significant for septal fracture. Computed tomography was found to be very helpful in diagnosing septal fracture but could not predict its severity accurately (Spearman correlation coefficient between computed tomography septal grading and perioperative septal grading, 33.5 percent). Therefore, computed tomography could not be used as a definitive diagnostic modality for septal fractures in terms of deciding whether septoplasty or submucous resection was needed. It is evident that septal fractures are frequent in simple nasal bone fractures that are not combined with other facial bone fractures. This study confirms that there are differences between radiologic findings and perioperative findings. To reduce the incidence of posttraumatic nasal deformity, meticulous physical examinations with subsequent septoplasty or submucosal resection are needed in the treatment of simple nasal bone fracture.  相似文献

Bone marrow stromal cells (MSCs) can be differentiated into neuronal and glial-like cell types under appropriate experimental conditions. However, previously reported methods are complicated and involve the use of toxic reagents. Here, we present a simplified and nontoxic method for efficient conversion of rat MSCs into neurospheres that express the neuroectodermal marker nestin. These neurospheres can proliferate and differentiate into neuron, astrocyte, and oligodendrocyte phenotypes. We thus propose that MSCs are an emerging model cell for the treatment of a variety of neurological diseases.  相似文献

SUMMARY. A simple 4π light collector is described suitable for light attenuation studies. It uses table tennis balls as light collectors and its spherical response is near to ideal. A circuit for a simple meter based on an operational amplifier is given as well as that for a direct-reading log-ratio meter. Both circuits are intended for use with selenium photocells. The modified Dingman forceps provides several advantages over currently designed plate-holding forceps. The rubber tubing prevents metal-to-metal contact of the forceps on the plate and provides increased stability to the plate. The long lingual jaws of the Dingman forceps are applied to the lingual bone at a point remote from the screw canal, and this prevents damage to the prepared canals. The design of the forceps' jaws provides three-point rigidity to stabilize the plate and, therefore, ensures proper alignment, adaptation, and pre-insertion fixation.  相似文献

In vitro cultures of primary, human trabecular bone-derived cells represent a useful system for investigation of the biology of osteoblasts. Our recent discovery of the multilineage mesenchymal differentiation potential of trabecular bone-derived cells suggests the potential application of these cells as mesenchymal progenitors for tissue repair and regeneration. Such applications are crucially dependent on efficient cellisolation protocols to yield cells that optimally proliferate and differentiate. In this study, we describe a simple, high-yield procedure, requiring minimal culture expansion, for the isolation of mesenchymal progenitor cells from human trabecular bone. Moreover, these cells retain their ability to differentiate along multiple mesenchymal lineages through successive subculturing. Cell populations isolated and cultured as described here allow the efficient acquisition of a clinically significant number of cells, which may be used as the cell source for tissue-engineering applications.  相似文献

A laboratory experiment was conducted to test the hypothesis that leaf processing by Japanese crayfish (Cambaroides japonicus de Haan) enhances the growth and reduces the mortality of collector amphipods (Sternomoera yezoensis Ueno) through fine particulate organic matter (FPOM) production. Two treatments (crayfish shredding, no shredding control) were established using flow-through artificial streams and permitting differential FPOM production rates. An amphipod enclosure, associated with juvenile amphipods and preconditioned leaf packs, was placed at the downstream end of each channel. During a 4-week period, shredding by crayfish greatly increased the amount of drifting FPOM compared to that in the control channels, in which only shredder-independent FPOM occurred. Despite the substantial contribution of crayfish to FPOM production, amphipods in both treatments grew during the 4-week period and neither amphipod survival nor growth differed between the two treatments. Furthermore, the residual leaf mass in the amphipod enclosures did not differ between the two treatments. However, residual leaf mass in amphipod enclosures was about 20% less than that expected from the processing rates of the leaf packs in the absence of invertebrate shredding. It is likely that amphipods were directly utilizing leaf packs as their food source regardless of FPOM abundance. These results indicate that juvenile amphipods, despite their classification as collectors, were plastic in their foraging habits, and that the FPOM produced by crayfish was not critical for amphipod growth or survivorship.  相似文献
