The hypothesis that female-female mounting is proceptivity in goats, in that male goats are aroused by the visual cues of this mounting behavior, was tested. Once a week, male goats were randomly selected and placed in a test pen in which they were allowed to observe one of six selected social or sexual stimulus conditions. The stimulus conditions were one familiar male with two estrous females (MEE); three estrous females that displayed female-female mounting (E(m)); three estrous females that did not mount (E(nm)); three non-estrous females (N(E)); three familiar males (M); and no animals in the pen (Empty). After 10 min, the stimulus animals were removed, and an estrous female was placed in the test pen with the male for a 20-min sexual performance test. During sexual performance tests, the frequencies and latencies of all sexual behaviors were recorded. This procedure was repeated so all males (n = 6) were tested once each test day, and all the stimulus conditions were presented each test day. This was repeated weekly until all males had been exposed to each stimulus condition. Viewing mounting behavior, whether male-female or female-female, increased the total number of sexual behaviors displayed, increased ejaculation frequency, and decreased latency to first mount and ejaculation, post-ejaculatory interval, and the interval between ejaculations. We conclude that male goats are aroused by the visual cues of mounting behavior, and that female-female mounting is proceptivity in goats.  相似文献

The reproductive behavior of two captive harem breeding groups of golden monkeys was observed over one mating season and compared to non-seasonal reproductive behavior. Observation of over two thousand sexual interactions suggests that 1) females were responsible for 95% of all sexual solicitations (proceptive behavior), of which the typical pattern was prostration, while males were responsible for only 5%; 2) 17% of female solicitations were interrupted by another female; 3) 52% of female solicitations resulted in mounting by males; 4) the frequencies of solicitations and receipt of mounts and ejaculations varied greatly among females; 5) the frequency of ejaculations, the ratio of ejaculations to mountings, and ejaculation patterns were different between two males, and 6) the golden monkey is a seasonal breeding animal.  相似文献

Rearing of male farm animals in unisexual groups has been implicated as a factor contributing to the failure of many males to breed as adults. The present study examines the relationship of male-male mounting in yearling dairy goats to subsequent mate preferences and sexual performance.Twenty-four sexually inexperienced male dairy goats, representing the Alpine, LaMancha, Saanen and Toggenburg breeds, were observed for male-male mounting in their home enclosure and then tested for mate choice and sexual performance when exposed to male and female (estrous and diestrous) stimulus animals. Their sexual behavior was compared with 7 adult goats with previous breeding experience. In the mate choice-sexual performance tests, 4 sexually inexperienced goats (17%) were sexually inactive, 6 (25%) mounted both male and female stimulus animals and 14 (58%) mounted only the female stimuli. Mate choice and sexual performance of the 20 sexually active males was not related to the number of male-male mounts initiated or the number of different males mounted in their home enclosure. However, the goats that received the greatest number of mounts in their home pen tended to be bisexual (would mount both male and female stimulus animals) in the mate choice tests. Males that were sexually inactive in mate choice-sexual performance tests repeatedly mounted the same male during home pen observations. Except for ejaculation frequency, the sexual performance of the sexually naive and experienced goats was similar. Goats of the Saanen breed were favored recipients of mounts from other males. There was no relationship between the number of male-male mounts performed and received. It was hypothesized that the reproductive failure of many male farm animals reared in all-male groups may be more closely related to the formation of specific sexual attachments to other males rather than the frequency with which they exhibit homosexual behaviors.  相似文献

The objectives of this investigation were to determine the degree of correspondence in the sexual performance of twin male sheep and to compare the sexual performance of ram lambs born co-twin to another male (M-M), co-twin to a female (M-F) and as single (S) offspring. Individual ram lambs (N=117), including 13 M-M twin sets, were exposed to four estrous ewes for 30 min at 7-day intervals over a 4-week period at 8 to 9 months of age.Frequencies of ejaculation (serving capacity) and mounts without ejaculation were recorded. M-M males averaged 2.9 ejaculations and 13.1 mounts per test. Individuals within 9 of the 13 M-M twin sets (69%) differed by an average of 0.5 or fewer ejaculations per test. Although variability within M-M twin sets was very low, variability between the 13 M-M twin sets was also low (coefficient of variation=10.6%). Consequently, frequencies of both ejaculation and mounting (without ejaculation) within the 13 twin sets were not correlated (P=0.50 and P=0.10, respectively). When the progeny of individual sires were compared, mounting frequencies were correlated (P<0.02) but not ejaculation rates (P=0.72). M-M, M-F and S ram lambs did not differ for either ejaculation frequency (P=0.26) or mounts without ejaculation (P=0.98). It was concluded that the sexual performance of related individuals is likely to be very similar and that the number and sex of contemporary siblings does not necessarily influence rates of mounting and ejaculation.  相似文献

Pre-oviposition ejaculation as a mating tactic of sneaker males in the rose bitterling, Rhodeus ocellatus, was studied under natural and artificial conditions. In a small pond in Yao city, Osaka, Japan, the operational sex ratio of males and females was found to be approximately 3.5:1 and the proportion of males to the mussels, which serve as spawning beds for the rose bitterling, was approximately 2:1. Competitively subordinate rose bitterling males which spawned into the mussels participated in mating by sneaking, because not all males could occupy territories around the mussels. The sneaker males often released sperm not only after but also before egg-laying (this ejaculation movement by the male before egg-laying is termed ‘pre-oviposition ejaculation’). In pair spawning with sneaker, the sneakers frequently performed pre-oviposition ejaculations, which territorial males never performed. In the field, pre-oviposition ejaculations by sneakers coincided with the leading of females by territorial males. Under artificial conditions, I demonstrated by using electrophoretic paternal analyses that the pre-oviposition ejaculations by the sneakers were more effective than the post-oviposition ejaculations by the territorial males. In addition, there were negative size-dependences in ejaculation achievement rate and fertilization success of the sneaker males.  相似文献

In some taxa, males perform multiple ejaculations, which may function in sperm competition or in maintaining a baseline density of spermatozoa in the female reproductive tract to ensure fertilization, a process that has been termed ‘topping up’. We investigated the function of multiple ejaculations in two species of bitterling, the European bitterling (Rhodeus amarus) and Chinese rose bitterling (Rhodeus ocellatus). Bitterling oviposit in living freshwater mussels, with fertilization taking place within the mussel gill cavity. Thus, although fertilization is external, the mussel is analogous to the female reproductive tract in an internally fertilizing species. We measured the frequency of ejaculations and mussel inspections by individual males of two bitterling species in 28 replicated mesocosms and examined focal male responses to rival ejaculations and the presence of females in spawning condition. We used a model of ejaculatory behaviour to simulate the temporal abundance of spermatozoa in mussels. Male R. amarus exhibited high rates of ejaculation and inspection of the siphons of mussels and increased their ejaculation rate in response to the presence of females in spawning condition. Rhodeus ocellatus showed lower overall rates of ejaculation, but significantly elevated ejaculation rate in response to rival ejaculations. The ejaculatory strategy of R. amarus is one that maintains a minimum level of spermatozoa in mussels, which is elevated when the probability of oviposition increases. In contrast, R. ocellatus engages more directly in sperm competition with rivals. We discuss these results in the context of the function of multiple ejaculations and male mating tactics.  相似文献

The copulatory behaviour of male mammals is characterized by striking diversity in patterns of copulatory stimulation and ejaculation frequency. We conducted comparative analyses of rodents to investigate the potential influence of sperm competition in the evolution of copulatory behaviour. We found that increasing sperm competition is associated with faster rates of stimulation and earlier ejaculation among species in which males perform multiple intromissions prior to ejaculation, but with no overall change in the number of intromissions per ejaculation. Increasing sperm competition is also associated with a higher frequency of repeated ejaculations with the same female, and with shorter refractory periods between repeated copulations. Increasing sperm competition level thus appears to select for male ability to ejaculate more rapidly and more frequently with each female mated. As prolonged copulations are known to reduce female remating rates, these findings indicate that males may experience opposing selection pressures on copulatory behaviour with respect to offensive and defensive aspects of sperm competition. We conclude that sperm competition is likely to be an important selection pressure explaining diversity in mammalian copulatory behaviour.  相似文献

Semen characteristics of first and second successive ejaculates from 6 jacks were evaluated weekly for 12 mo. The semen was collected at 4-h intervals, using an artificial vagina with a female in either natural or induced estrus. The statistical analysis was done by factorial delineation 2 x 2 in randomized blocks. Due to some ejaculation failures, the data had to be divided into 2 Groups (A and B) for statistical analysis: Group A - ejaculates preceded by 2 ejaculates in the previous week and Group B - ejaculates preceded by only 1 ejaculate in the previous week. If no statistical difference was observed between the groups in a given parameter, the data was grouped together. Semen characteristics for the first and second ejaculates, respectively, showed the following mean +/- SEM: gel-free semen volume 29.2 +/- 2.2 and 31.7 +/- 2.2 ml; progressive motility 71.0 +/- 1.6 and 72.9 +/- 1.6%; sperm vigor 3.8 +/- 0.1 and 4.1 +/- 0.1; live spermatozoa for Group A 82.6 +/- 2.1 and 82.3 +/- 2.1%, and for Group B 84.6 +/- 1.4 and 86.6 +/- 1.4%; total number of spermatozoa for Group A 10.6 +/- 0.8 x 10(9) and 5.8 +/- 0.8 x 10(9), and for Group B 13.3 +/- 1.2 x 10(9) and 9.6 +/- 1.2 x 10(9); head abnormalities for Group A 1.2 +/- 0.3 and 1.4 +/- 0.3%, and for Group B 1.6 +/- 0.3 and 1.9 +/- 0.3%; mid piece abnormalities 7.7 +/- 0.7 and 6.1 +/- 0.7%; tail abnormalities 7.3 +/- 0.7 and 6.8 +/- 0.7%; pH 7.6 +/- 0.0 and 7.6 +/- 0.0. Significant differences (P < 0.05) were observed between the animals for all sperm characteristics except for sperm vigor. The means for the first and second ejaculates were significantly different (P < 0.05) for the total number of spermatozoa in all the animals, while the percentage of mid piece abnormalities was significantly different in only 1 jack. Seasonal effects on sperm parameters were observed only for semen pH.  相似文献

Copulation induces an acute increase in epididymal sperm numbers in rats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The temporal changes in epididymal sperm numbers during the month after sexual contact were examined in 80 adult albino rats. The comparably sexually experienced males in 6 experimental groups were allowed 3 ejaculations with ovariectomized females in which oestrus was induced by hormone injections. Epididymides were removed from the experimental males 1 h, 1 day, 2 days, 3 days, 7 days or 30 days later. Control males were sexually inexperienced or sexually experienced and living with females. Epididymal sperm counts revealed a pattern that resembled an inverted V-shaped function with a peak at 48 h after copulation. We suggest that sexual activity provokes an acute attenuation of sperm disposal within the epididymis with the result that more spermatozoa are available for ejaculation during sexually active times.  相似文献

Development of nutritional strategies to increase the production of fertile sperm would further enhance the distribution of superior genetic material by AI. The objective was to determine the effects of a dietary source of omega-3 fatty acids in boars on semen characteristics and sexual behavior. Boars were fed daily 2.2 kg of a diet top-dressed with 0.3 kg of corn (controls; n=12) or 0.3 kg of a supplement containing 31% omega-3 fatty acids (n=12) for 16 weeks. Semen was collected weekly and for boars that received the supplement containing omega-3 fatty acids, total sperm per ejaculate averaged 84.3+/-2.3 x 10(9) (mean+/-S.E.M.) during Weeks 0-7, and increased (P=0.02) to 95.6+/-2.3 x 10(9) during Weeks 8-15. Control boars averaged 86.3+/-2.3 x 10(9) sperm per ejaculate during Weeks 0-7 and 86.4+/-2.3 x 10(9) during Weeks 8-15. Other semen characteristics were similar (P>0.1) between groups. Duration of ejaculation was affected by treatment (343.9s for controls and 388.8s for boars fed omega-3 fatty acids; S.E.M.=15.7; P=0.05). In summary, semen characteristics and sexual behavior were altered in boars fed a supplement containing omega-3 fatty acids. Boar semen is typically diluted to create AI doses containing 3 x 10(9) sperm each; therefore, use of the supplement increased the number of potential AI doses by approximately three per ejaculate after the initial 7 week supplementation period.  相似文献

After approximately 6 mo without access to a receptive female, eight old (19 to 25 yr) and eight middle-aged (9 to 15 yr) males were given nine daily 10-min tests of sexual behavior with receptive females. Three ovariectomized, estrogen-primed females served as partners. Blood samples were taken from the males at 0900 and 2100 h on 2 consecutive days before and after the series of nine behavioral tests. Serum levels of testosterone (T) were measured by means of radioimmunoassay. There were no significant differences between serum T levels after 6 mo of sexual deprivation and after the nine tests of sexual behavior, nor did serum T levels differ between middle-aged and old males. Serum T levels were significantly higher in the 2100-h samples than in the 0900-h samples for both groups. The nocturnal increases in serum T, both absolute amounts and percentages of increase, did not differ between middle-aged and old males. Repeated daily testing had little effect on the major components of male sexual behavior. Middle-aged males outperformed old males; middle-aged males had higher rates of contracting the female, mounting and intromitting. They ejaculated earlier and had a greater percentage of tests with ejaculations than did old males.  相似文献

Preference testing has shown that sexually experienced male goats choose females that are tail wagging, a behavior that may function as both attractivity and proceptivity, over those that are not. We hypothesized that exposure to females expressing high rates of tail wagging would arouse males, increasing sexual performance. Tail wagging rate could be manipulated because we have shown previously that flutamide treatment increases the frequency of tail wagging in estrous goats. Sexually experienced males observed different stimuli for 10 min before a 20 min sexual performance test (SPT). The stimuli were an empty pen (MT), or groups of three females that were all estrous (E), non-estrous (NE), estrous + flutamide (EF) or non-estrous + flutamide (NEF). During the stimulus observation period, tail wagging was recorded. During SPT, frequencies and latencies of sexual behaviors were recorded. EF females displayed the most tail wagging. Viewing EF females before SPT increased the number of ejaculations attained by males and decreased the latencies to first and second ejaculation, as well as the inter-ejaculatory interval. Viewing estrous females (E and EF) before SPT decreased the latency to first mount, as compared to non-estrous females (NE and NEF). We conclude that male goats are sexually aroused by tail wagging. This study and previous work demonstrate that tail wagging functions as both attractivity and proceptivity in goats.  相似文献

Bulls that appear to have an abnormality of sperm transport accumulate large numbers of senescent sperm in the excurrent ducts of the reproductive tract. Six bulls that accumulated sperm were used to determine the number of physiological ejaculations required to deplete accumulated senescent sperm, semen traits during depletion, the period of time to re-accumulate senescent sperm after depletion, the sites of sperm accumulation, and the effect of sperm accumulation on fertility during natural service. Semen was collected from three bulls (HH, PH1, and CH1) three times daily using internal artificial vaginas placed in cows in estrus. These bulls started to produce semen with >or=70% morphologically normal sperm on the third, fifth, and seventh day, respectively. The percentage of live sperm increased from 5% to 68%, 5% to 63%, and 18% to 68% in HH, PH1, and CH1, respectively. Two weeks later the same bulls were electroejaculated every second day for five electroejaculations to deplete stores of senescent sperm. Each time, electroejaculation was continued until the semen produced had a dilute appearance. The three bulls re-accumulated senescent sperm after 1 month of sexual rest. After re-accumulation of senescent sperm, the total volumes of semen in both ampullae recovered at slaughter from HH, PH1, and CH1 were 5.0, 5.0, and 9.5 ml, respectively. The volumes of semen in ampullae recovered at slaughter from two control bulls (RA and CHC) were 1.7 and 1.9 ml, respectively. The number of sperm recovered from both cauda epididymides of HH, PH1, CH1, RA and CHC was 37.3x10(9), 23.3x10(9), 15.0x10(9), 6.9x10(9), and 7.4x10(9), respectively. Bull CH1 and a fourth bull (LM) that also accumulated sperm, started to produce semen with >or=70% morphologically normal sperm, and >or=60% progressively motile sperm on the third electroejaculation after depletion of senescent sperm by repeated electroejaculations. Pregnancy rates achieved by two bulls that accumulated senescent sperm (CH2 and PH2) were less (P<0.05) during the first week of a 21-day breeding period and there was a tendency for lesser pregnancy rates at the end of the breeding period when compared with two normal control bulls. The present study indicates that bulls that accumulate senescent sperm may achieve greater pregnancy rates approximately 1 week after beginning a period of frequent ejaculation. Re-accumulation of an increased percentage of senescent sperm would likely occur after 1 month of sexual rest.  相似文献

The stimulus conditions which influence the frequencies of self-enurination, genital grooming and flehmen by domestic male goats (Capra hircus L.) were studied in two experiments in which the sexual arousal and performance of the subjects were varied either naturally or artificially.Sexually aroused males exhibit more frequent self-enurination, genital grooming and flehmen than sexually inactive males. In natural mating, self-enurination and genital grooming are exhibited mainly when sexual behaviors are naturally inhibited, as during the post-ejaculatory refractory period. Frequencies of self-enurination and genital grooming can be artificially increased by enhancing sexual arousal in situations that preclude physical contact with females, such as when observing other males copulate or when restrained in close proximity to a female immediately following ejaculation.  相似文献

Boars that had a catheter implanted surgically in the urinary bladder (n = 10) were used to determine the magnitude of retrograde flow of spermatozoa into the urinary bladder during ejaculation (Experiments 1 and 2) and the post-ejaculatory retention of spermatozoa in the urethra (Experiment 2). The overall mean (+/- SD) total number of spermatozoa in the ejaculates of boars used in Experiments 1 and 2 was 62 +/- 25 x 10(9) and 65 +/- 33 x 10(9), respectively. The overall mean adjusted total number of spermatozoa in the post-ejaculation urine of boars was 106 +/- 537 x 10(6) in Experiment 1, and 41 +/- 242 x 10(6) in Experiment 2. The overall mean percentage of retrograde flow of spermatozoa into the urinary bladder was 0.15 +/- 0.78% for the boars used in Experiment 1, and 0.03 +/- 0.16% for boars used in Experiment 2. In Experiment 2, the overall mean percentage of urethral loss of spermatozoa was 0.45 +/- 1.02%, and the overall mean percentage of total urinary losses was 0.48 +/- 1.03%. These findings demonstrate that in boars, in contrast to bulls, rams, dogs, and cats, urinary losses of spermatozoa during ejaculation are negligible.  相似文献

Experiments were undertaken to determine whether the decline in the ejaculation frequency of old male rhesus macaques is due to a decrease in physical capacity. In the first experiment, the capacity of old males to ejaculate in a series of biweekly tests was investigated. Six old (18–23 years) and six young (8– 12 years) male rhesus macaques were given 10-min tests of sexual behavior with nine different females chosen at random. The old males were also given 10-min tests with a preferred female, 1339. When the old males were tested with nine different females, their sexual performance (e.g., frequency of ejaculation) was significantly less than that of the young males, but their performance was comparable to that of young males in nine tests with female 1339. In a second experiment, the capacity of old males to show repeated ejaculations over a 3-hr period was tested. The same old and young males were given a 3-hr test with female 1339. The sexual performances (number of ejaculatory series completed and behavior displayed within each ejaculatory series) of the old males did not differ significantly from those of the young. Also, no significant differences in behavior were observed between young and old males during the first 10 min of the 3-hr tests. Our data show that the decline in the sexual performance of old rhesus males is not due to a decreased capacity to perform sexually or to physical debilitation.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that the activation of the androgen receptor (AR) is required for full expression of female goat sexual behavior. Once a week for 6 weeks, ovariectomized (OVX) females were given priming doses of progesterone 72 and 48 h before behavioral observation. Estradiol (E(2); 100 microg), testosterone (T; 100 mg), or sesame oil was supplied 14 h before behavioral testing. Six goats received the AR antagonist flutamide (9 mg/kg sc) 8 h before and 4 h after steroid injection. Six goats received the carrier only. After 3 weeks, flutamide and carrier treatments were switched so that all females received all treatments. Treatments with E(2) and T were equally effective in eliciting estrus-typical behaviors (sniffing, courting, leg kicks, mount attempts by males, bouts of thrusting by males, ejaculations, and flehman responses) compared to treatment with oil. Flutamide treatment enhanced proceptive behaviors in E(2)-treated females compared to other treatment groups; this was most likely via enhanced tail wagging. Moreover, compared to goats given T + carrier, T + flutamide significantly reduced receptivity in females. The results of this experiment implicate the AR as an important facilitator of some aspects of the female goat sexual behavior. However, the results of this experiment do not show whether androgens influence estrous behaviors alone or in some combination with estrogen.  相似文献

Body weight of male mice of five inbred strains caged in groups of five was determined three times between the ages of 80 and 100 days, representing the individual fully grown body weight. Sexual activity of each mouse (number of ejaculations and intromissions) was estimated under competitive conditions between the ages of 120 and 150 days in eleven repetitions. Within all inbred strains only about half of the males displayed sexual activity when confronted with an estric female. The other do not. The animals remained in their cage groups until natural death after 727 +/- 215 days (C57BL/6), 638 +/- 260 days (BALB/c), 630 +/- 187 days (CBA), 560 +/- 230 days (DBA/2) and 317 +/- 62 (AKR) days. Only amongst the sexually active animals did individual life span correlate with the number of ejaculations. This was seen in C57BL/6, CBA and DBA/2. Particularly sexually successful animals, carrying out the most ejaculations, live 10-20% longer than their (subdominant) competitors displaying less sexual success. Sexually inactive males (characterised by no ejaculations and less other sexual activities) show that this characteristic of their personalities imposes no limitation upon their life expectancy. Fully grown body weight and the individual life span correlates within the strains DBA/2, C57BL/6 and BALB/c. Medium-sized animals have a greater life expectancy than small or large ones.  相似文献

The courtship of 5 jacks was evaluated weekly for 12 mo. The characteristics of sexual behavior were recorded before the collection of 2 ejaculates, at 4-h intervals, into an artificial vagina in the presence of a female in either natural or induced estrus. The maximum time given to the jack to perform the ejaculatory mount was 1 h. If the jacks did not ejaculate, another attempt was made the following week. At the time of collection, the male and female remained free in a paddock (20 m2). The data presented in this study is based on results in which the first and second ejaculates occurred successively. Statistical analysis was done by a 2 x 2 factorial design in randomized blocks. The mean +/- SEM of sexual behavior characteristics for the first and second ejaculate were, respectively: time until first mount = 0.7 +/- 0.2 and 0.9 +/- 0.2 min; time until first erection = 11.9 +/- 1.1 and 11.6 +/- 1.1 min; time until ejaculation = 15.0 +/- 1.2 and 13.6 +/- 1.2 min; frequency of partial exposure of penis = 3.4 +/- 0.4 and 3.2 +/- 0.4; frequency of total exposure of penis = 1.0 + 0.2 and 1.1 +/- 0.2; frequency of flehmen responses = 6.6 +/- 0.5 and 4.6 +/-0.5; frequency of erections = 1.3 +/- 0.1 and 1.2 +/- 0.1; frequency of retreats away from the female = 1.8 +/- 0.2 and 1.0 +/- 0.2; frequency of mounts with erection but without ejaculation = 0.3 +/- 0.1 and 0.1 +/- 0.1; frequency of mounts without erection = 2.0 +/-0.1 and 1.2 +/- 0.1 ; and frequency of pelvic copulatory movements = 4.8 +/- 0.4 and 4.4 +/- 0.4. Individual differences were observed (P<0.05) for partial and total exposure, flehmen responses, mounts without erection and pelvic copulatory movements. The variables flehmen responses, retreats away from the female and mounts without erection showed significant differences (P<0.05) between ejaculates. Seasonal effects on sexual behavior characteristics were not found. However, a monthly effect was noted for flehmen responses, partial exposure of the penis, mounts without erection, retreats away from the female and pelvic copulatory movements when the 2 ejaculates were combined.  相似文献

Intact adult male rats, in which aromatization of testosterone to estradiol was prevented pre- and/or neonatally by ATD (1,4,6-androstatriene-3,17-dione), were repeatedly tested for partner preference behavior (choice: estrous female vs active male). In consecutive tests increasing preference scores for the female were found. Neonatal ATD males showed significantly lower preference scores for an estrous female than controls or prenatal ATD males. Prenatal ATD caused preference scores only slightly lower than those of controls. Ejaculation frequencies were markedly reduced or even absent in neonatal ATD males. Prenatal ATD treatment only had no or a moderately lowering effect on ejaculation frequency. Lordosis behavior of adult intact males was more facilitated following neonatal ATD treatment than following prenatal ATD treatment. In a number of tests the serotonergic drug 8-OH-DPAT was injected prior to testing for sexual partner preference and copulatory behavior. DPAT significantly increased preference for an estrous female in all groups of males when interaction was possible, but had no effect when sexual interaction was prevented by wire mesh. DPAT was able to increase the number of ejaculators in nonejaculating groups (i.e., perinatally ATD-treated males). "Premature ejaculations," i.e., ejaculations with the first intromission, were frequently observed with DPAT treatment in all groups of males. In conclusion, the availability of neonatal estrogen (derived from testosterone) organizes, at least partially, the preference for an estrous female normally shown by adult male rats. The lack of neonatal estrogen causes males to be less masculinized, both in partner preference behavior and ejaculatory behavior, and less defeminized in lordosis behavior.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
