A complex study of the physical working capacity of five- to six-year-old children (n = 106) was performed. It was found that the physical working capacity of preschool children at this age is determined by the following five major factors: (I) aerobic capacity, (II) anaerobic glycolytic working capacity, (III) absolute aerobic power, (IV) relative aerobic power, and (V) anaerobic alactic working capacity. Sex-related differences in some parameters reflecting the physical working capacity and fitness, characterizing the anaerobic alactic and anaerobic glycolytic productivity of the body were revealed. These differences are apparently related to an advanced development of anaerobic energy-supply mechanisms of girls compared to age-matched boys. The procedure of a complex assessment of the physical working capacity of five- to six-year-old children has been developed, which includes informative parameters characterizing the power and capacity of energy systems selected on the basis of results of factor analysis and expert assessment. A rapid procedure for a complex assessment of working capacity based on calculating the time during which a physical load (2 W/kg) can be sustained is proposed. The study showed that shifts in the intensity of physical activity within the optimal range resulted in multifold changes in its duration. Importantly, the duration of physical activity’s performance at an intensity of 175–180 bpm in children with a high working capacity is comparable to the maximum work duration at a heart rate of 140–145 bmp in preschool children with a low physical condition. Differences between children with high and low physical working capacity were found to increase with an increase in the physical load aerobicity. The physical working capacity of five- to six-year-old children can be differentiated best of all on the basis of aerobic capacity parameters. The enormous range of changes in the aerobic capacity parameters makes them especially valuable for characterizing the level of somatic health of preschool children. The results of this study were used to construct a nomogram for the determination of the allowable training load depending on its intensity and physical working capacity.  相似文献

People with the highest rates of mental working capacity staying for a year at an altitude of 1680 m below sea level are characterized by less pronounced responses of respiration to moderate hypoxia and great ventilatory response to maximally endured hypoxic action, by higher glucose content in blood and physical working capacity. Many relationships typical of the middle mountains are inverse ones under conditions of a one-year stay at an altitude of 3650 m below sea level. In the case of a total decrease in indices of mental and physical working capacity people with the highest rate of information processing are characterized by less reactivity of the respiratory system, greater resistance to ultimate hypoxia, lower glucose concentration, less physical working capacity.  相似文献

The report is based on the results of an 11-year longitudinal study on the age-dependent changes in the muscular working capacity in 7-to 17-year-old boys and girls with different somatotypes. Type-specific features of the development of the energetics of skeletal muscles and sex-related differences in the typological structure of the sample have been found. The changes occurring in leanness-fatness, physical working capacity, isometric strength, and motor ability have been followed in 20 highly active young adult males over a period of 3 years. Body weight and estimated percentage of fat increased over the 3-year period but there were no significant changes in the other variables. Within the 3-year period physical working capacity and relative leanness-fatness showed significant variations which are attributed to the state of training of the subjects. Strength was found to be highly related to somatotype but was apparently not influenced by the state of training; changes in relative leanness-fatness occurring with training were found to be influenced by somatotype.  相似文献

All discussions of muscle energetics concern themselves with the Hill force-velocity relation, which is also the general output relation of a class of self-regulated energy converters and as such contains only a single adjustable parameter —the degree of coupling. It is therefore important to see whether in principle muscle can be included in this class. One requirement is that the muscle should possess a working element characterized by a dissipation function of two terms: mechanical output and chemical input. This has been established by considering the initial steady phase of isotonic and isometric tetanic contraction to represent a stationary state of the fibrils (a considerable body of evidence supports this). Further requirements, which can be justified for the working element, are linearity and incomplete coupling. Thus the chemical input of the muscle may be expected to follow the inverse Hill equation (see Part I). The relatively large changes in activities of reactants which the equation demands could only be controlled by local operation of the regulator, and a scheme is outlined to show how such control may be achieved. Objections to this view recently raised by Wilkie and Woledge rest on at least two important assumptions, the validity of which is questioned: (a) that heat production by processes other than the immediate driving reaction is negligible, which disregards the regulatory mechanism (possibly this involves the calcium pump), and (b) that the affinity of the immediate driving reaction is determined by over-all concentrations. The division of heat production into “shortening heat” and “maintenance heat” or “activation heat” is found to be arbitrary.  相似文献

Although there is little argument about the state of energy imbalance that produces weight gain, there is considerable argument about the respective role of genetics, diet and physical activity in achieving obesity. In the USA, obesity has increased in the last decades despite a concomitant decrease in total energy and fat intake suggesting that there has been a dramatic drop in total energy expenditure. In this review, we investigated the respective role of resting metabolic rate, post-prandial thermogenesis, and activity energy expenditure in this lower energy output, and provided evidence that physical inactivity is the major contributor. Based on Jean Mayer original observation (Mayer et al., 1954), we hypothesize that there is a level of physical activity below which mechanisms of body mass regulation are impaired. The increasing prevalence of obesity may reflect the fact the majority of the population has fallen below such a level of physical activity. However, a causal relation between physical inactivity and obesity is still difficult to prove, probably because of the lack of longitudinal models to investigate the physiological consequences of inactivity and because the deleterious consequences of sedentary behaviors are essentially deduced from the benefits of exercise training. By using long term strict bed rest as a unique model of inactivity, we provide evidence that inactivity per se indeed disrupts fuel homeostasis and partitions post-absorptive and post-prandial fat use towards storage, thus promoting weight gain in the long term. More research is needed to investigate mechanisms and to determine the minimal physical activity our body has been engineered for by evolution.  相似文献

Heat capacity curves as obtained from differential scanning calorimetry are an outstanding source for molecular information on protein folding and ligand-binding energetics. However, deconvolution of C(p) data of proteins in the presence of ligands can be compromised by indeterminacies concerning the correct choice of the statistical thermodynamic ensemble. By convent, the assumption of constant free ligand concentration has been used to derive formulae for the enthalpy. Unless the ligand occurs at large excess, this assumption is incorrect. Still the relevant ensemble is the grand canonical ensemble. We derive formulae for both constraints, constancy of total or free ligand concentration and illustrate the equations by application to the typical equilibrium Nx <=> N + x <=> D + x. It is demonstrated that as long as the thermodynamic properties of the ligand can be completely corrected for by performing a reference measurement, the grand canonical approach provides the proper and mathematically significantly simpler choice. We demonstrate on the two cases of sequential or independent ligand-binding the fact, that similar binding mechanisms result in different and distinguishable heat capacity equations. Finally, we propose adequate strategies for DSC experiments as well as for obtaining first estimates of the characteristic thermodynamic parameters, which can be used as starting values in a global fit of DSC data.  相似文献

It is shown, that the physical load "to overflowing" is connected with heterogeneous changes in the mental capacity of students. In students with the high preventive level of the working capacity an increase of the mental capacity by the model physical load on the bicycle is due to not only an increase of the physical capacity, but also to accumulation of the tiredness after load. Stimulation of the mental capacity necessitates playing and cyclic loads, or the application of stepwise increasing load (2 w/kg, 6-9 min).  相似文献

The series of articles summarizes a 30-year study on the development of skeletal muscles, bioenergetics of muscular exercise, and physical working capacity with age in elementary and secondary school students. Communication I deals with the growth of human skeletal muscles and age-related changes in their fiber composition and the main parameters of aerobic working capacity. Energy balance studies suggest that the overall efficiency of energy utilization does not increase during pregnancy in rodents, other than as a consequence of "hyperphagia". Diet-induced thermogenesis is not stimulated in response to the increased energy intake of the pregnant animal, the extra intake being retained at the maximum efficiency. Biochemical studies on brown adipose tissue, the main site of adaptive thermogenesis in rodents, are consistent with the energy balance data, at least in rats and mice. However, in hamsters (golden and Djungarian) some atrophy of the tissue is evident during pregnancy. In contrast to pregnancy, the thermogenic activity (mitochondrial GDP binding) and capacity (uncoupling protein content) of brown adipose tissue are substantially reduced during lactation in rats and mice. These changes result from a fall in sympathetic activity in the tissue in lactation. Sympathetic activity and thermogenic capacity are, however, fully restored following weaning of the pups. The functional atrophy of brown adipose tissue during lactation is linked to a substantial saving in maternal energy expenditure, reducing the energy requirements for milk production. The lactating-post-lactating animal provides an excellent example of a physiologically programmed reversible atrophy of brown adipose tissue.  相似文献

An ergometric model of relative power zones of cyclic muscular exercise is presented. Age-related changes in the main ergometric parameters, as well as the structure of the entire range of muscle loads bearable by humans, have been studied in 7-to 17-year-old boys. The ergometric parameters reflecting the power characteristics of muscles increase by a factor of about two in the age interval studied, while the parameters characterizing the capacity of the energy system of skeletal muscle increase by a factor of several tens. This reflects the actual increase in muscle working capacity during the maturation of the musculoskeletal system.  相似文献

The criteria of max VO2 and max O2D which are traditionally used in studying aerobic and anaerobic work capacity, have the different dimensions. While max VO2 is an index of the power of aerobic energy output, max O2D assesses the capacity of anaerobic sources. For a comprehensive assessment of physical working capacity of athletes, both aerobic and anaerobic capabilities should be represented in three dimensions, i.e. in indexes of power, capacity and efficiency. Experimental procedures have been developed for assessing these three parameters in treadmill running tests. It is proposed to assess anaerobic power by measuring excess CO2, concurrently with determination of max VO2. Maximal aerobic capacity is established as the product of max VO2 by the time of max VO2 maintenance determined in a special test with running at critical speed. The erogmetric criteria derived on the basis of the tests proposed, may be used for systematization of various physical work loads.  相似文献

Food uptake ofDreissena polymorpha from two shallow water sites and one site at a 9 m depth in lakes was monitored over the course of 1 1/2 years. Feeding was characterized by the filtration capacity and ingestion capacity (i.e. the unrestricted maximum rates) at ambient temperature. The available food was estimated as seston dry weight, as seston ash free dry weight and as seston volume (sum of the volumes of the particles in the water column). The filtration capacity and ingestion capacity varied strongly during the course of the year by more than 1:10, with maximum values during late spring and early summer. The filtration capacity was correlated with water temperature, the ingestion capacity with temperature and seston concentration. However, at identical water temperatures both capacities were higher in spring than in autumn. At the 9 m site, filtration and ingestion capacity was also significantly influenced by lack of oxygen caused by stratification during summer. In the allometric equations by which both capacities (C) were related to body weightW (C=a W b ), an exponent b of 0.89±0.14 (mean±95% confidence interval) was calculated for the filtration capacity and 1.00±0.18 for the ingestion capacity. Both exponents did not vary significantly during the course of the year. The seasonal trend of the incipient limiting concentration (i.e. the seston concentration at which the intestine is filled to its capacity when the animal filters at maximum rate) was less pronounced. It showed a significantly positive correlation with seston concentration and a negative correlation with temperature. Except during the spring bloom, the incipient limiting concentration was in the range of the seston volume registered at the sites. Gross growth efficiencies were highly variable. An annual average between 5 and 20% was calculated. Growth efficiencies were lower at the shallow water sites with the highest seston concentrations.  相似文献

Physical activity and fitness have important health promoting effects with respect to arterosclerosis and coronary heart disease in particular. An intervention study of physical status and physical activity in university undergraduates (University of Tartu) has been carried out. The physically inactive (Group I) consisted of 310 undergraduates (235 females and 75 males) of the Faculty of Medicine. The physically active (Group II) was recruited from among undergraduates (22 females and 23 males) of the Faculty of Exercise and Sport Sciences, who participated in training sessions regularly, 3 to 5 times per week. Anthropometric body measurements, arm force, vital capacity and exercise test on the bicycle ergometer (PWC170) were performed. There were no statistically significant differences between the mean values of anthropometric indices in case of physically inactive and physically active female subjects. In the group of physically active male undergraduates, weight and shoulder width were larger than in students with physically sedentary life style (p < 0.05). Most of the female and male students had normal BMI. There were statistically significant differences in the mean values of vital capacity, arm force and aerobic working capacity between the study groups, while physically active students had higher physical capacity (p < 0.001). Mean anthropometric indices demonstrated a statistically significant increase in both female and male university undergraduates after the interval of 30 years. Normal BMI and anthropometric indices do not serve a as guarantee of physical fitness for university undergraduates who are involved in sedentary life style. Regular physical activity has a strong positive impact on physical fitness, particularly on aerobic capacity which is the most important health promoting component of physical fitness with respect to coronary heart disease.  相似文献

Healthy subjects with average and very high physical working capacity were submitted to two 6-min periods of work on a cycloergometer at the work loads 70 and 90 percent VO2max. Changes in the activity of Asp AT and Al AT as well as in the concentrations of NA, K and lactates in erythrocytes and serum were determined. In the subjects with average physical working capacity the serum concentrations of lactate and sodium, as well as the activity of Asp AT were much more increased than in the highly efficient subjects. In both groups similar changes of electrolyte concentrations in erythrocytes occured. The activity of Al AT was increased only in the group of subjects with high physical working capacity after the first period of work and showed a tendency to return to the resting values after the second period.  相似文献

Influence of hypoxia on a human organism was studied with the help of hypoxic gas mixtures (HGM) in the first series with 14 % content of oxygen in nitrogen (n = 6), in the second one--with 12 % (n = 10) in the third one--with 8 % (n = 14). Hypoxic exposition in all the series was 25 min. In 6 subjects engaged in all the 3 series, physical working capacity was assessed in two-step test on a veloergometer. In all the 3 series, oxygen consumption by the organism some time after the start of the hypoxic action exceeded the background normnoxic level. Maximal value of this excess on the average was the highest in HGM-12 series--40 +/- 12 %. Maximal increase of the respiration and central blood circulation velocity was the highest in HGM-8 series, 90 +/- 24 and 25 +/- 16 % respectively. Analysis of the EEG parameters, oxygen saturation and rheoencephalographic data indicates the probability of the cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen during hypoxia to beein normal (in most subjects) and even increased (in some subjects). In 3 subjects of 6, whose physical working capacity was assessed, maximal increase of oxygen consumption was observed in HGM-8 series--105 +/- 34 %. Their physical working capacity was higher than of those subjects, who showed maximal increase of oxygen consumption in HGM-12 series. Analysis of increase in oxygen consumption (paradoxical under hypoxic conditions) doesn't allow to ascribe it wholly to an increase of the respiration and central blood circulation. Obviously, the increase of oxygen and energy expenditures for biochemical adaptation to hypoxia, which has common features with adaptation to physical activity plays an important role under hypoxia.  相似文献

On the basis of the results of our studies and literature data, an analysis of the physiological mechanisms responsible for the multifold increase in the physical working capacity during human development has been performed. Physiological and biochemical studies have shown that the aerobic energy system already has a high capacity during the second period of childhood, and the further increase in working capacity is mainly provided by the development of anaerobic mechanisms of energy supply. The maturation of mechanisms of energy production is related to considerable changes in the activity of tissue enzymes and radical rearrangement of the composition of muscular fibers. Puberty considerably influences the development of anaerobic muscle energetics in boys due to stimulation of the growth of type II fibers by testosterone. It has been shown that widespread tests for assessment of physical working capacity mainly reflect changes in the power of energy systems and only in rare cases may be used to characterize changes in their capacity. However, the capacity parameters, which depend to a greater extent on the quality of regulation at the cellular, tissue, and body levels, show multifold growth during ontogeny, which corresponds to the actual increase in the working capacity in the period from childhood to youth. A classification of tests of physical working capacity is proposed. The use and development of this classification may facilitate the development of new tests and an increased efficiency of testing involved in solving various applied and fundamental problems.  相似文献

Physical work capacity was measured by means of a symptom limited, near maximal cycle ergometer exercise test in two populations: a random sample of 95 military officers, and 2014 apparently healthy working males, 40-59 years old. Physical activity during leisure hours was assessed by means of a standardized questionnaire and by a personal interview with the officers and with 1769 of the other men. A 3 year total incidence of coronary heart disease (CHD) was recorded in the case of the officers and a 7 year CHD incidence and of CHD deaths was obtained for the 2014 working men. The data show that: A marked underestimation of the habitual levels of physical activity of the officers was obtained from the standardized questionnaire, as compared with that shown by the interview data. A far better agreement between the questionnaire and interview data on leisure time activity was observed among the mainly sedentary men. Physical work capacity was fairly well predicted from the questionnaire data in the sedentary men, but poorly predicted in the officers. CHD mortality in the sedentary men was highly correlated with working capacity in all age groups. Of 58 who died from CHD, 28 belonged to the lowest physical fitness quartile. This study indicates that questionnaires should be used with caution when assessing levels of habitual physical activity. It also suggests that a low physical work capacity is an important risk factor in CHD mortality.  相似文献

The energetics of barstar denaturation have been studied by CD and scanning microcalorimetry in an extended range of pH and salt concentration. It was shown that, upon increasing temperature, barstar undergoes a transition to the denatured state that is well approximated by a two-state transition in solutions of high ionic strength. This transition is accompanied by significant heat absorption and an increase in heat capacity. The denaturational heat capacity increment at approximately 75 degrees C was found to be 5.6 +/- 0.3 kJ K-1 mol-1. In all cases, the value of the measured enthalpy of denaturation was notably lower than those observed for other small globular proteins. In order to explain this observation, the relative contributions of hydration and the disruption of internal interactions to the total enthalpy and entropy of unfolding were calculated. The enthalpy and entropy of hydration were found to be in good agreement with those calculated for other proteins, but the enthalpy and entropy of breaking internal interactions were found to be among the lowest for all globular proteins that have been studied. Additionally, the partial specific heat capacity of barstar in the native state was found to be 0.37 +/- 0.03 cal K-1 g-1, which is higher than what is observed for most globular proteins and suggests significant flexibility in the native state. The thermal properties and energetics of formation of 10, 12 and 16 bp DNA duplexes, specifically interacting with the HMG box of Sox-5, have been studied by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). DSC studies show that the partial heat capacity of these short duplexes increases considerably prior to the cooperative process of strand separation. Direct extrapolation of the pre and post-transition heat capacity functions into the cooperative transition zone suggests that unfolding/dissociation of strands results in no apparent heat capacity increment. In contrast, ITC measurements show that the negative enthalpy of complementary strand association increases in magnitude with temperature rise, implying that strand association proceeds with significant decrease of heat capacity. Furthermore, the ITC-measured enthalpy of strand association is significantly smaller in magnitude than the enthalpy of cooperative unfolding measured by DSC. To resolve this paradox, the heat effects upon heating and cooling of the separate DNA strands have been measured by DSC. This showed that cooling of the strands from 100 degrees C to -10 degrees C proceeds with significant heat release associated with the formation of intra and inter-molecular interactions. When the enthalpy of residual structure in the strands and the temperature dependence of the heat capacity of the duplexes and of their unfolded strands have been taken into account, the ITC and DSC results are brought into agreement. The analysis shows that the considerable increase in heat capacity of the duplexes with temperature rise is due to increasing fluctuations of their structure (e.g. end fraying and twisting) and this effect obscures the heat capacity increment resulting from the cooperative separation of strands, which in fact amounts to 200(+/-40) JK(-1) (mol bp)(-1). Using this heat capacity increment, the averaged standard enthalpy, entropy and Gibbs energy of formation of fully folded duplexes from fully unfolded strands have been determined at 25 degrees C as -33(+/-2) kJ (mol bp)(-1), -93(+/-4) J K(-1) (mol bp)(-1) and -5.0(+/-0.5) kJ (mol bp)(-1), respectively.  相似文献
