Cotton leaf curl virus disease reduces the cotton yield significantly every year and is transmitted by Bemisia tabaci. The study was designed to evaluate 15 varieties/lines against the disease. Multiple regression analysis was performed based on a-biotic environmental variables (maximum air temperature, minimum air temperature, relative humidity and rainfall) to predict disease incidence and its vector (Bemisia tabaci). Two bio-products were evaluated against the whitefly population to control the disease. Out of 15 cotton varieties/lines, no one was found highly resistant against the disease. Five varieties/lines (BT BT-980, BT-457, KIRAN, BT-666 and SLH-BT-6) exhibited moderately resistant response. Maximum air temperature (34–35.5 °C), minimum temperature (25.75–26.25 °C), relative humidity (64.14–66%), rainfall (1–2 mm) and wind speed (5.50–5.75 Kmh?1) favoured the disease development. Maximum whitefly population was favoured by maximum air temperature from 34–35.5 °C, 25.8–26.2 °C minimum air temperature, 64.14–66% relative humidity, 1–2 mm from rainfall and 5.50–5.75 Kmh?1 wind speed. Datura stramonium was found more effective as compared to Aviara (Homoeopathic) but not from the positive control (Acetamiprid).  相似文献

Bacterial seed and boll rot is a newly emerging cotton disease in Pakistan. Twenty-one cotton varieties were screened to find resistance source against the disease. None of these was found to be resistant. Five cotton varieties (CIM-595, MK2, BT-986, BT-986 & SG-1) having 700–1400 Area under disease progress curve (AUDPC) units were found to be moderately resistant to the disease. SLH-317, FH-942, BT-222, BT-666, MNH-457 ranging from 1401–1700 AUDPC units were moderately susceptible while MNH-456, SLH-336, 9811, FH-942, MNH-886 susceptible to boll rot. Seven varieties (FH-114, FH-113, BT-7, BT-212, SLH-BT-4, BT-212 and FH-941) were highly susceptible to bacterial seed and boll rot indicated by 2001–2300 AUDPC units. Biochemical tests identified bacterial isolates as Pantoea agglomerans. Different inoculation techniques were assessed for bacterial pathogenicity and symptoms of boll rot were only observed in needle punctured bolls. One, two and three weeks old bolls were mechanically inoculated by injecting bacterial suspension to evaluate the boll’s age impact on disease severity. Maximum severity was observed in two weeks old bolls. Red cotton bugs (Dysdercus cingulatus) were fed on artificially inoculated diseased bolls and then transferred on healthy bolls. Diseased symptoms were noticed on healthy cotton bolls. Bacterial colonies were recovered and red cotton bug was confirmed as the disease-transmitting vector.  相似文献

Brown leaf rust (BLR) caused by Peridiopsora mori is one of the major foliar diseases of mulberry (Morus sp.) in the subtropical hills of eastern India. The disease appeared in first week of August and continued up to September with maximum severity in second and third week of September. The disease symptoms appeared at atmospheric temperature (27.00–20.07°C), relative humidity (92.14–82.43%), rainfall (11.20 cm) and rainy days (7) of the preceding week. Disease severity (>50 PDI) was observed at temperature (26.29–19.29°C), relative humidity (94.14–80.14%), rainfall (4.12 cm) and number of rainy days (2–3 days). Apparent rate of infection was found high at temperature (27.00–19.83°C), relative humidity (94.67–85.00%), rainfall (4.6 cm) and rainy days (2) of the preceding week. The correlation coefficient between disease severity and average meteorological factors of the preceding 7 days revealed that BLR disease severity showed significant negative correlation with minimum temperature. It was also revealed that contribution of maximum and minimum temperature 42.23% and 35.21%, maximum and minimum relative humidity (RH) 11.23% and 10.69% and rainfall and number of rainy days 0.11% and 0.50%, respectively towards development of BLR disease severity. Multiple regression analysis revealed that average of maximum and minimum temperatures and minimum RH of preceding 7 days were found to maximally influence BLR disease severity.  相似文献

In order to develop weather-based forecasting model of bacterial leaf spot (BLS) disease of mulberry caused by Xanthomonas campestris pv. mori, weekly disease severity data were recorded for three years on the ruling cultivar S-1. Daily meteorological data viz. maximum temperature, minimum temperature, maximum relative humidity, minimum relative humidity, rainfall and number of rainy days were also recorded. It was observed that BLS appeared in April/May and continued up to November with maximum severity in July. The correlation coefficient between disease severity and meteorological parameters revealed that the BLS disease severity has significant positive correlation with minimum temperatures, maximum and minimum relative humidity, rainfall and number of rainy days and negative correlation with maximum temperature. Multiple regressions analysis revealed that average of maximum temperature, minimum temperature and rainfall of preceding seven days and maximum relative humidity, minimum relative humidity of previous 9–15 days was found to maximally influence BLS disease severity. The contribution of the meteorological factors was found to be highest of minimum temperature (40.65%) followed by maximum temperature (24.20%), maximum relative humidity (16.41%), minimum relative humidity (8.07%), rainfall (5.29%) and number of rainy days (5.38%).  相似文献

Cotton is an important fibre crop chiefly attacked by a number of diseases. Pre-emergence damping off seedling is an important disease of cotton. Efficacy of three fungicides (Dynesty, Topsin-M and Antracol) was assessed on early mid and late sowings. Topsin-M and Antracol were evaluated at 1X and 2X concentrations, Dynasty was only used at standard dose. Significant increase in seed germination was seen, maximum germination was observed in late sowing. Antracol (2X) significantly improved seed germination rate in all three sowings as compared to other treatments. Impact of environmental parameters on germination rate was assessed relating to seed dressing fungicides at 1X and 2X concentrations. Significant correlation was observed between soil temperature and seedling germination rate by all treatments, 30–31 °C favoured germination rate. Maximum seedling germination rate was observed at 24–26 and 22–23 °C and 45–50% by average air temperature, minimum air temperature and relative humidity respectively. Regression model was contrived to predict seedling germinations impacted by seed dressing fungicides relating to environmental factors. Closed resemblance between observed and predicted values states that model can be used to predict seed germination by treating with fungicides regarding to environmental factors.  相似文献

The life history strategy and seasonal host plant use of three Dysdercus bugs (D. cingulatus, D. poecilus and D. decussatus) were compared based on 2 years of twice monthly observations on Ishigaki‐jima Island (24°N, 124°E) in the southernmost part of Japan. Dysdercus poecilus reproduced almost year round, exclusively on Sida rhombifolia, which bears fruit and/or seeds almost year round. Dysdercus cingulatus reproduced successively on various malvaceous and bombacaceous plant species, according to their seasonal fruiting cycles. Its robust reproduction was observed on Hibiscus makinoi during winter months and on Chorisia speciosa and Bombax ceiba in early summer, whereas small‐scale reproduction was observed on various malvaceous plant species during the summer and autumn months. Dysdercus decussatus reproduced on Hibiscus tiliaceus and Thespesia populnea during the summer months, when these host plants bear abundant fruit and/or seeds, and its adults formed conspicuous aggregations without copulation on the underside of the leaves of those plants from November to the subsequent May. Each Dysdercus species showed a species‐specific life history strategy according to the differences in the phenology of their host plants.  相似文献

Dusky cotton bug (Oxycarenus spp.) has become a major insect pest for cotton crop in Pakistan. Transgenic cotton varieties provided resistance to a variety of insects pests. But, these are not safe for this emerging potential threat. In present study, nine transgenic cotton varieties (IUB-222, MNH-886, FH-142, CIM-599, A-555, CIM-602, NIAB-777, MNH-786 and Bt-666) were assessed for seasonal population dynamics of dusky cotton bug (DCB) under field conditions. All transgenic varieties showed a differential DCB population over the months and no transgenic variety was free from DCB population throughout the crop duration. DCB population appeared during 3rd week of July and crossed the economic threshold level (10–15 nymph/ adults or both per plant) during August. A substantial increase in DCB population was noted during September-November with its peak population during October, 2014. Among all varieties, three varieties (CIM-599, CIM-602 & IUB-222) showed a significantly lower mean population per plant (37.76, 37.87, 43.84) and two varieties (FH-142, MNH-886) gave highest population (44.71, 46.81), respectively. Correlation matrix revealed that low temperature and high humidity were promoting the DCB population. Cluster analysis revealed interesting findings that IUB-222 with least population fall in a cluster where other two varieties (FH-142 & MNH-886) possessed highest population. Moreover, two varieties (CIM-599 & CIM-602) with least population fall in second cluster regarding DCB population. These findings would be helpful for the farmers to select the varieties that showed relatively higher resistance towards DCB population and to adopt proper management strategies keeping in view the trend of DCB population during the crop season.  相似文献

During last decades, stripe rust has emerged as a major disease of wheat causing considerable yield loss in northern western plain and northern hill zones of India. Considering significant impact of the disease on wheat crop, field experiments were conducted during rabi seasons of 2013 and 2015 to evaluate the effect of different abiotic factors in different varieties (HD 2967, RSP 561, Agra Local and PBW 343) on the progress and spread of the disease as well as development of a predictive model to predict the disease initiation and spread in the field. Statistical analysis of data revealed that existing of low temperature (10–12 °C), high relative humidity (90%) along with intermittent rainfall was found conducive for disease onset. Thermic variables (atmospheric, canopy and soil temperature) along with age of crop in the selected varieties showed significant positive correlation with disease severity. Step-wise regression showed high R2 of 0.919, 0.885, 0.967 and 0.956 for the predicative model of stripe rust in RSP 561, HD 2967, Agra Local and PBW 343, respectively.  相似文献

Epidemics of brown rust in sugarcane, caused by Puccinia melanocephala, vary in severity between seasons. Natural epidemics were studied to determine the effects of temperature and moisture variables on epidemic onset, severity and decline. Variables were monitored with disease severity in two cultivars, each grown at a different location in Louisiana. Maximum daily temperature was the variable most correlated with seasonal epidemic development and decline. Disease severity was high during 2009 and low during 2010. This contrast allowed evaluation of the effects of conducive and limiting environmental conditions on severity. Lower severity resulted from a combination of unfavourable temperature and leaf wetness conditions that delayed onset then reduced the rate of disease increase. An accumulation of 23–25 days with leaf wetness periods of at least 7 h after the daily minimum temperature exceeded 17°C preceded the onset of disease on young leaves in both severe and mild epidemics. Severe epidemics in both cultivars declined once maximum ambient daily temperature was 32°C or higher. Low and high limiting temperatures determined the initiation and decline of an epidemic, respectively, under Louisiana climatic conditions. The availability of leaf wetness was then an important determinant of disease severity during the epidemic.  相似文献

Adult female Dysdercus cingulatus which feed on cotton seeds shows a decrease in midgut protease and invertase after extirpation of the median neurosecretory cells (mnc). This is reversed after implantation of fresh active mnc into the operated insects if they are allowed to feed on cotton seeds. However, when these insects are fed only on sucrose solution after implantation of mnc, protease or invertase does not increase. A significant decrease in food consumption is also noticed after ablation of the mnc which is reversed by their implantation. It is suggested that the mnc stimulate food consumption and that this ingested food in turn stimulates the digestive enzyme activity through a secretogogue mechanism in Dysdercus cingulatus.  相似文献

Abstract

The incidence of insect pests in cotton crop, such as Bemisia tabaci, Amrasca devastans and Pectinophora gossypiella (PBW) is dependent on climatic factors, such as maximum and minimum temperature, relative humidity and rainfall. Besides, cotton leaf curl disease (CLCuD) is also a major yield-limiting factor in the cotton crop. The results indicated that non-transgenic genotypes were heavily infested by whitefly, whereas jassid infested all genotypes with little difference. The population of whitefly and jassid acquired peak level in the month of July and August on all the genotypes. The correlation studies indicated the negative correlation of jassid, pink bollworm and CLCuD on yield component, whereas whitefly infestation was found positively correlated with CLCuD. Moreover, multivariate regression analysis (MRA) indicated the maximum and minimum temperature impacted the infestation of whitefly and jassid more than other factors, whereas maximum temperature greatly impacted the infestation of PBW in transgenic genotypes.  相似文献

Brown rust epidemics in sugarcane, caused by Puccinia melanocephala, vary in severity between seasons. To improve the understanding of disease epidemiology, the effects of leaf wetness, temperature and their interaction on infection of sugarcane by the pathogen were studied under controlled conditions. Disease severity was low at 15 and 31°C regardless of leaf wetness duration. No infection occurred with a 4‐h leaf wetness period. Increasing leaf wetness duration from 7 to 13 h lowered the temperature required for disease onset from 21 to 17°C. More infection occurred with 13 compared to 10 h of leaf wetness at 17°C, and severity decreased for all leaf wetness periods at 29 compared to 27°C. Postinfection suboptimal low and high temperatures increased the time required for lesion development and high temperatures decreased maximum disease severity. The observed effects of leaf wetness and temperature on infection by P. melanocephala could help explain the initiation, rate of increase and decline of brown rust epidemics in the field.  相似文献

This study evaluated the thermal requirements for development of the cotton mealybug Phenacoccus solenopsis depending on different biological parameters on Okra leaves Abelmoschus esculentusat under two constant temperatures (20 and 30 °C) at (RH 65%, 12:12 h. light/dark). The effect of temperature on eggs was ineffective since it hatched shortly to first nymphal instars after deposition. While the tested temperature caused significant effects on nymphal durations, pupation rate (pre-male stage), females emergence %, pre-oviposition, longevity, post-oviposition periods and fecundity in females (egg deposition, ovisacs numbers and hatchability %). The thermal constant and developmental zero were calculated to be 7.29 °C and 79.9 degree-days (DDs) for eggs, 11.67 °C and 272.9 DDs for nymphal stages, 11.06 °C and 46.4 DDs for males and then 3.31 °C and 554.1 DDs for females, respectively. The duration of the life cycle was 65.6 ± 10.36 days at 20 °C; this was shortened to 35.51 ± 1.12 days at 30 °C. The thermal requirements to complete the insect development for one generation was 8.2 °C for the developmental zero and 774.1 DDs for the thermal constant. Based on the thermal requirements values, the average life cycle duration from January to December 2016 was 61.78 days and the number of annual generations was 7.143 when the average annual temperature was 23.29 °C.  相似文献

Five-week-old seedlings of Capsicum annuum variety SAMPEP 4, Californian Wonder and Ex Dandamasa drenched with 15,000 infectious units per ml of Phytophthora capsici were incubated at 5°C, 20°C, 30°C and 35°C in alternating light–dark cool cycle Gallenkamp incubators and monitored for root rot development. Each host–pathogen system was replicated five times. Successful disease development was contingent on been incubated at ambient temperature for not less than 3.5 ± 0.5 h. Depending on variety, degenerate tissue rots were aggravated ≤2–3 days after a preconditioning temperature treatment for 24 h possibly linked to cell wall constitution, composition and permeability. Lesion development on stem heightened (27.8%) when incubated at temperatures above 20°C. Ten days after treatment, plant mortality and disease severity were not affected significantly by post-inoculation temperature.  相似文献

The effects of constant air temperature and relative humidity on the longevity of three species of gripopterygid stonefly adults from New Zealand were investigated in laboratory experiments, and the results were compared to field measurements of air temperature and humidity obtained during summer. Greatest longevity for Zelandobius furcillatus, Zelandoperla decorata and Acroperla trivacuata was recorded in cool humid conditions (10°C, 100% humidity) for adults fed water and a 5% sucrose solution. Absence of feeding reduced survival by 37–73% at 17°C and 100% humidity. Survival decreased significantly with increasing constant air temperature (10, 17 and 25°C) and decreasing mean relative humidity (100, 81 and 15%). Males survived significantly longer than females in all temperature treatments for Z. furcillatus, but longevity was not influenced by gender in other species or in the humidity experiments. Interpolated LT 50 values over 96 h for female stoneflies in the temperature treatments averaged of 22–23°C. Field measurements at near-ground level and 1.5 m above the streambank during summer indicated that these air temperatures were exceeded for 25% of the time in a pasture catchment compared to <0.1% of the time in a native forest catchment. These findings implicate air temperature as a factor potentially influencing the longevity of adult stoneflies, and suggest that maintenance of appropriate microclimate conditions should be a consideration in riparian management.  相似文献

Weather and anthropogenic factors are important determinants for Japanese encephalitis (JE) transmission. During 2008–2010, an increasing trend of JE was observed in Dibrugarh district of Northeast India. The JE cases were found to be clustered between June to October in each year. Monthly minimum temperature and rainfall were significantly associated with JE transmission at 1 and 2 months lagged. However, the relationship was more prominent at a lag of 1 month than that of two. Regression analysis suggested that rainfall, minimum and maximum temperature, and relative humidity at 6:00 h are significant predictors (P < 0.05) of quarterly occurrence of JE cases. Additional anthropogenic risk factors including the conditions such as pig sty/cattle shed around and lower part of the houses and proximity of rice field to the dwelling houses (P < 0.05) were also found to be predictors for JE occurrence. Meteorological and anthropogenic risk factors can be used to forecast JE outbreaks in Assam which in turn can help the local health authorities to protect communities in JE prone areas.  相似文献

Sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum) is an annual herb crop grown in polyethylene‐covered structures in Israel. It is Israel's leading herb crop, grown in warm regions of the country. Downy mildew (caused by Peronospora belbahrii) is a severe disease in Israel and in many other crop‐growing regions worldwide. Experiments were carried out to identify potential climate‐management techniques for suppression of this disease on basil in non‐heated greenhouses. Disease severity was evaluated under commercial‐like conditions in three experiments, with 8–10 walk‐in tunnels at each location. Pathogen inoculum was introduced into all walk‐in tunnels. Regression analysis was performed between the disease values and air temperature, relative humidity (RH) and soil temperature. Downy mildew severity was negatively related to high (>25°C) air temperature, RH in the range of 65–85% and high (>21°C) soil temperature. The increase in air temperature did not result in a significant increase in leaf temperature; canopy surface median temperatures only reached 30°C. Symptomless plants from relatively warmer tunnels (peak temperatures of 45–48°C) that were transferred to conditions that promote downy mildew (22 ± 2°C, RH > 95%) became severely diseased, showing sporulation of P. belbahrii, suggesting that infection occurred but at the high temperatures symptom expression/tissue colonisation was suppressed. Pot experiments in which aerial and subterranean plant organs were differentially heated revealed that treating the roots with a high temperature (26–31°C), similar to the soil temperatures in the warmer greenhouses, while maintaining the upper plant parts at ambient temperature (20°C), suppresses canopy downy mildew. The effect lasted for 1–2 weeks after the plants were removed from the heated soil treatments and maintained under optimal conditions for pathogen development. Furthermore, oospores were found in the symptomatic leaves. Oospores are minimally affected by high temperature, and therefore the high temperature presumably did not affect pathogen survival. In conclusion, the effect of high greenhouse temperature on basil downy mildew may not result from a direct negative effect of high temperature on the pathogen but from an indirect high‐temperature effect on the host, rendering it less susceptible to pathogen development.  相似文献

Experiment on jute crop was conducted during pre-kharif to kharif seasons (April to August) at Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV), West Bengal, India in a view to record the pest incidence on olitorius jute and to determine the weather parameters impacting on pest population in jute under West Bengal conditions. Seventeen different species of pests belonging to insects, mites and nematodes were found feeding on jute. Among them, jute semilooper (Anomis sabulifera Guen.), Bihar hairy caterpillar (Spilarctia obliqua Wlk.), grey weevil (Myllocerus discolor Bohemus), yellow mite (Polyphagotarsonemus latus Banks), stem weevil (Apion corchori Marshall), and root knot nematode, Meloidogyne incognita are causing economic damage to the crop and other pests were considered as minor pests. Correlation studies with weather parameters showed that incidence of semilooper was negatively correlated (r = ?0.795 to ?0.725) with the maximum temperature but had positive significant association with minimum temperature (r = 0.528–0.715), morning relative humidity (RH) (r = 0.579–0.857) and afternoon RH (r = 0.876). Bihar hairy caterpillar incidence also exhibited positive significant relationship with morning RH (r = 0.577) and afternoon RH (r = 0.545). Morning and afternoon RH and rainfall also had significant positive correlation with the incidence of M. discolor with r = 0.535, 0.570, and 0.700, respectively. None of the meteorological parameters had any significant influence on the incidence of A. corchori. Yellow mite incidence showed positive association with morning RH (r = 0.563–0.679) and afternoon RH (r = 0.526–0.618). Rainfall was found favourable for proliferation and incidence of M. discolor only but had a negative effect on the incidence of stem weevil and yellow mite. Thus climatic factors particularly temperature, relative humidity and rainfall played a pivotal role on occurrence and existence of different pests on jute crop.  相似文献

Effects on development, longevity, fecundity and predation of the predatory phytoseiid mite Typhlodromus mangiferus Zaher and El-Brolossy were studied in the laboratory at different temperatures and relative humidities using four prey mite species: the motile stages of the eriophyid mango bud mite Aceria mangiferae Sayed, the eriophyid leaf coating and webbing mite Cisaberoptus kenyae Keifer, the eriophyid mango rust mite Metaculus mangiferae (Attiah) and nymphs of the tetranychid mango red mite Oligonychus mangiferus (Rahman and Sabra). The increase of different temperatures and decrease of relative humidities from 25°C and 60% to 30°C and 55% and 35°C and 50% shortened development and increased reproduction and prey consumption. The developmental durations were almost similar when the predator was fed on eriophyids compared to that on tetranychid. The maximum reproduction (2.70, 2.08, 1.97 and 1.66 eggs/ ♀ /day) was recorded at the highest temperature and the lowest relative humidity, while the minimum reproduction (1.7, 1.54, 1.53, and 1.06 eggs/ ♀ /day) was noted at the lowest temperature and highest relative humidity with all mango prey species. Life table parameters indicated that feeding of T. mangiferus on A. mangiferae led to the highest reproduction rate (rm = 0.204 and 0.139 females/female/day), while feeding on O. mangiferus gave the lowest reproduction rate (rm = 0.137 and 0.116) at 35°C and 50% relative humidity and 25°C and 60% relative humidity, respectively. T. mangiferus seems to be a voracious predator of both mango eriophyid and tetranychid mites. The adult female daily consumed about 127 A. mangiferae, 97 C. kenyae, 86 M. mangiferae, and 18 O. mangiferus at 35°C and 50% relative humidity, while it devoured only 99.81, 86, 81, and 15 individuals, respectively at 25°C and 60% relative humidity. The present study revealed that each injurious mite is thought to be profitable prey species to T. mangiferus as a facultative predator.  相似文献
