An experiment utilizing 12 castrated male pigs within a body weight range of 23 - 147 kg was conducted to ascertain whether the alteration of protein quality by varying the level of lysine intake is influencing total energy retention, heat production and therewith efficiency of energy utilization for growth. The animals were allotted to two treatments of a constant medium (11.5 g/d) or high lysine intake (13.5 g/d) level on the basis of an isonitrogenous diet at an energy intake level of 1.3 MJ ME/kg BW0.75. Representing a tool for determining body composition, at target body weights of 35, 55, 80, 115 and 145 kg measurements of deuterium dilution space were undertaken. Protein and lipid accretion were calculated by difference, assuming accretion to contain 23.8 and 39.0 kJ/g, respectively. The results show a significant effect (p < 0.05) between treatment groups for the values of energy retained in protein, thus ensuring the intended alteration by protein quality. Furthermore total energy retention, heat production (difference between ME intake and energy retention) and therewith energy utilization demonstrate independence from the composition of body weight (BW) gain. These observations confirm earlier results, but however, seem to be in contrast to the supposition of a constant efficiency for protein (kp) and fat (kf) accretion, respectively. This may be attributed to a variable kp, in fact to a smaller kp at minor values for protein accretion due to an increased whole body protein turnover. Lacking evidence from experimental data for advantages in using constant values for kp and kf to determine the accurate energy requirement for growth, a uniform value for the efficiency of total energy retention seems to be more adequate. 相似文献

The influence has been studied of a beta-agonist, clenbuterol, on body weight increase, feed efficiency and muscular tissue growth in Wistar rats of two different weights (70 and 200 g) fed with a diet of differing protein levels (4, 10 and 15%). 2. Treatment with clenbuterol had a negative influence on body growth and feed efficiency when the animals were fed with low protein diets (4%). 3. With a higher protein content (10 and 15%), the situation changed completely, and these indices increased, with a relationship appearing between these changes, the agonist dose and the animal's age. 4. In all the experiments clenbuterol improved muscle/body ratio significantly (P less than 0.001). The favourable effect of clenbuterol on muscle growth is due to a specific increase in protein deposition and not to changes in the water content of muscular tissue, even though these changes may be produced. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the effects of dietary crude protein (CP) level on odour emission, odour intensity, hedonic tone, and ammonia emission from pig manure and on manure composition (pH, total nitrogen, ammonium, volatile fatty acids, indolic, phenolic and sulphur-containing compounds). An experiment was conducted with growing pigs ( n = 18) in a randomised complete-block design with three treatments in six blocks. Treatment groups were 12%, 15% and 18% CP diets. Barley was exchanged for soya-bean meal. Crystalline amino acids (AA) were included in the 12% CP diet up to the level of pigs' requirement; the same amount of AA was added to the 15% and 18% CP diets. Pigs with an initial body weight (BW) of 36.5 ± 3.4 kg (mean ± s.d.) were individually penned in partly slatted floor pens and offered a daily feed allowance of 2.8 × maintenance requirement for net energy (NE: 293 kJ/kg BW 0.75). Feed was mixed with water, 1/2.5 (w/w). Faeces and urine of each pig were accumulated together in a separate manure pit under the slatted floor. After an adaptation period of 2 weeks, the manure pits were cleaned and manure was collected. In the 5th week of the collection period, air samples for odour and ammonia analyses, and manure samples were collected directly from each manure pit. Air samples were analysed for odour concentration and for hedonic value and intensity above odour detection threshold. Manure samples were analysed for volatile fatty acids, and indolic, phenolic and sulphurous compounds, ammonium and total nitrogen concentrations. Reducing dietary CP from 18% to 12% lowered odour emission ( P < 0.05) and ammonia emission ( P = 0.01) from pig manure by 80% and 53%, respectively. Reduced dietary CP decreased total nitrogen, methyl sulphide, carbon disulphide, ethanethiol, phenol, 4-ethyl phenol, indole and 3-methyl indole concentrations in the manure ( P < 0.05). Volatile fatty acids and cresols concentrations in the manure of pigs fed different dietary CP levels were similar. The study aimed to determine the effects of reduction of dietary crude protein (CP) level with balanced essential amino acids (EAA) on intestinal bacteria and their metabolites of growing pigs. Forty pigs (initial BW 13.50 ± 0.50 kg, 45 ± 2 days of age) were randomly assigned to four dietary treatments containing CP levels at 20.00% (normal crude protein, NP); 17.16% (medium crude protein, MP); 15.30% (low crude protein, LP); and 13.90% (extremely low crude protein, ELP), respectively. Crystalline AAs were added to meet the EAA requirement of pigs. After 4-week feeding, eight pigs per treatment (n = 8) were randomly selected and slaughtered for sampling of ileal, cecal, and colonic digesta and mucosa. Pigs with moderately reduced CP level had increased bacterial diversity, with the Shannon diversity indices for the colon digesta in the LP group and mucosa in the MP and LP groups significantly (P < 0.05) higher than those in the NP and ELP groups. As the CP level reduces, the Bifidobacterium population were linearly decreased (P < 0.05) both in ileum, cecum, and colon, and the ELP group had the lowest Bifidobacterium population in the cecum and colon, with its value significantly lower than NP and MP groups (P < 0.05). However, the ELP group had the highest population of Escherichia coli in the colon, with its value significantly higher than the LP group (P < 0.05). For bacterial metabolites, as CP level decreased, total short-chain fatty acid (T-SCFA), acetate, and butyrate were linearly increased (linear, P < 0.05) in the ileum, while all SCFAs except formate in the cecum and T-SCFA and acetate in the colon, were linearly decreased (P < 0.05). Reducing CP level led to a linear decrease of microbial crude protein (MCP) in the ileum (P < 0.05) and ammonia in all intestine segments (P < 0.05). The spermidine in cecum and total amines, cadaverine, methylamine, and spermidine in colon were shown a quadratic change (P < 0.05) as dietary CP decreases, with the highest concentration in LP group. These findings suggest that moderate reduction of dietary CP level may benefit large intestinal bacterial community and its fermentation, which was negatively affected by extremely low CP diet. 相似文献

Twenty healthy growing male kids (Sannen × Beetal and Alpine × Beetal) of 2–3 months of age, weighing 12 ± 0.61 kg, were randomly assigned to one to four dietary treatments in a 2 × 2 factorial design. Two types of isonitrogenous and isocaloric concentrate mixtures were fed to kids in four treatments being: untreated mustard cake, untreated mustard cake with molasses, formaldehyde treated mustard cake and formaldehyde treated mustard cake with molasses. Both concentrate mixtures were similar in composition with the only difference in RDP and UDP due to replacement of untreated mustard cake by formaldehyde (FA) treated mustard cake. Kids were fed concentrate and forage (berseem hay:wheat straw = 2:1) in a 50:50 ratio. A metabolism experiment of 7 days duration was conducted before the end of the experiment. Kids were housed in individual pens and fed experimental diets for 120 days. No differences occurred in digestibility of DM, OM, CP and NDF om, but ether extract digestion in kids fed FA treated mustard cake was higher (P<0.05). Supplementation of molasses increased apparent nutrient digestibility, without influencing digestion of CP and NDF om. Intake of DM, CP and ME did not differ among treatments. The CP content of the diet actually consumed that was supplemented with molasses was lower (P<0.01), with a higher (P<0.01) ME content, without influence of FA treatment on nutritive level of the diet consumed. N balance was higher (P<0.01) in kids fed FA treated MC and supplemental molasses. Microbial protein yield, calculated from purine derivatives excreted in urine, was similar among treatments. The DM intake in the growth experiment was higher by feeding both FA treated MC and molasses. Average daily gain was influenced by feeding FA treated MC, without any effect of supplemental molasses on growth rate of the kids. The higher DM intake and improved growth rate in kids fed FA treated MC resulted better feed efficiency. Higher UDP intake improved growth performance in kids and supplementation of molasses, with or without ruminal escape CP, has no added advantage. 相似文献

The objective of this study was to further the understanding of the effects of dietary protein and energy supplements on growth, performance, feed intake and grass forage digestibility in growing meat goat wethers. In Experiment 1, an 18% CP complete goat pellet was offered alone (control diet, C) or added (+), or not, as supplement to three grass hays (coastal bermudagrass, CB; Tifton 85 bermudagrass, T; and sorghum-Sudan grass hay, SS), to Boer-cross wethers ( n = 72). The resulting seven diets were offered ad libitum. In Experiment 2, four wether goats in metabolism crates were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square design and fed a SS basal diet ad libitum with treatments consisting of no supplement, supplemental urea (200 mg/kg BW daily), supplemental dextrose (0.2% BW daily), or urea + dextrose (200 mg/kg BW daily and 0.2% BW daily, respectively). In Experiment 1, average daily gain (ADG) were −3.8, −5.0 and −6.6 g/day for goats consuming CB, T and SS, respectively, and 69.2, 61.6 and 58.1 g/day for supplemented CB (CB+), T (T+) and SS (SS+), respectively, as compared to 245.8 g/day for ad libitum access to C. Supplementation in Experiment 1 increased ( P < 0.01) ADG for all hays when compared to hay-only diets. In Experiment 2, protein and energy supplementation increased ( P < 0.01) nitrogen retention but did not impact diet digestibility. The beneficial effects of supplements in Experiment 1 and the increase in nitrogen retention in Experiment 2 cannot be explained by improvements in ruminal fiber utilization, but could be due to post-ruminal nutrient supply and/or increased ruminal microbial protein synthesis. 相似文献

In this investigation in vitro and in vivo trials were performed to determine the efficacy of a cottonseed to limit protozoal population and fermentation parameters. The composition of diets given to the different treatments were as follow: (1) control (without whole cottonseed), 16% crude protein (CP), 3.2% ether extract (E.E.); (2) 20% whole cottonseed, 16% CP, 6.5% E.E.; (3) 20% whole cottonseed, 13% CP, 6.4% E.E. and (4) 20% crushed whole cottonseed, 13% CP, 6.4% E.E. DM disappearance (DMD) and fermentation characteristics of the treatments were determined by in vitro incubation studies. In the in vivo trial, ruminal fluid was taken by rumenocentesis (3 h after feeding) on days 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 14, 21 and 28 from four sheep fed about treatment diets. The pH and protozoal counts were determined in each sample, while ammonia nitrogen and volatile fatty acid (VFA) were determined in samples taken on days 7, 14, 21 and 28. The in vitro DMD after 24 h incubation decreased ( p < 0.01) with the addition of cottonseed in diets 3 and 4 and DMD after 72 h incubation was highest ( p < 0.01) for the control diet. The fractional rate of gas production ( c) for the control and diet 2 was higher ( p < 0.05) than for the diets 3 and 4. Feeding crushed whole cottonseed decreased molar proportion of propionate ( p < 0.05) and increased molar proportion of butyrate ( p < 0.01). Low crude protein level increased the molar proportion of propionate ( p < 0.05) and decreased molar proportion of butyrate ( p < 0.05) and cellolytic protozoa population ( p < 0.05). Feeding cottonseed decreased ( p < 0.05) the total protozoa population from approximately 500,000 to 250,000 ml −1 and Holotrich and cellulolytic protozoa disappeared from the rumen of sheep and only Entodinium sp., remained. This was associated with lower concentration of ammonia nitrogen in rumen fluid of sheep fed diets 4 ( p < 0.05) and 2 ( p < 0.01). It was concluded that cottonseed reduced rumen fauna and ammonia nitrogen, but had no effect on ruminal VFA while the crushed whole cottonseed decreased molar proportion of isovalerate only. In vivo molar proportion of propionate and butyrate and valerate were increase and decrease, respectively, by decreasing CP percentage in treatment diets. 相似文献

Optimizing phosphorus (P) utilization in pigs requires improving our capacity to predict the amount of P absorbed and retained, with the main modulating factors taken into account, as well as precisely determining the P requirements of the animals. Given the large amount of published data on P utilization in pigs, a meta-analysis was performed to quantify the impact of the different dietary P forms, calcium (Ca) and exogenous phytases on the digestive and metabolic utilization criteria for dietary P in growing pigs. Accordingly, the amount of phytate P (PP) leading to digestible P (g/kg) was estimated to be 21%, compared with 73% for non-phytate P (NPP) from plant ingredients and 80% for NPP from mineral and animal ingredients ( P < 0.001). The increase in total digestible dietary P following the addition of microbial phytase (PhytM) from Aspergillus niger ( P < 0.001) was curvilinear and about two times higher than the increase following the addition of plant phytase, which leads to a linear response ( P < 0.001). The response of digestible P to PhytM also depends on the amount of substrate, PP (PhytM 2 × PP, P < 0.001). The digestibility of dietary P decreased with dietary Ca concentration ( P < 0.01) independently of phytase but increased with body weight (BW, P < 0.05). Although total digestible dietary P increased linearly with total NPP concentration ( P < 0.001), retained P (g/kg), average daily gain (ADG, g/day) and average daily feed intake (ADFI, g/day) increased curvilinearly ( P < 0.001). Interestingly, whereas dietary Ca negatively affected P digestibility, the effect of dietary Ca on retained P, ADG and ADFI depended on total dietary NPP (NPP × Ca, P < 0.01, P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively). Increasing dietary Ca reduced retained P, ADG and ADFI at low NPP levels, but at higher NPP concentrations it had no effect on ADG and ADFI despite a positive effect on retained P. Although the curvilinear effect of PhytM on digestible P increased with PP ( P < 0.001), this effect was lessened by total NPP for ADG and ADFI (PhytM × NPP and PhytM 2 × NPP, P < 0.05) and depended on both total NPP and Ca for retained P (PhytM 2 × NPP × Ca, P < 0.01). This meta-analysis improves our understanding of P utilization, with major modulating factors taken into account. The information generated will be useful for the development of robust models to formulate environmentally friendly diets for growing pigs. 相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the requirement for dietary crude protein (CP) in growing blue-breasted quail (BBQ). In Experiment 1, 300 1-day-old quails were randomly assigned to 10 groups according to a 2×5 factorial arrangement of treatments with two metabolisable energy (ME) levels (12.13 and 13.39 MJ/kg) and five CP concentrations (160, 190, 220, 250 and 280 g/kg) for 8 weeks. In Experiment 2, 300 1-day-old quails were subjected to a different factorial arrangement of treatments with two ME levels (11.51 and 12.13 MJ/kg) and five CP concentrations (210, 220, 230, 240 and 250 g/kg) for 28 days. Experiment 1 revealed that an interaction existed in weight gain between ME and CP levels in weeks 1 to 4. In both ME groups, quails receiving CP of 160 g/kg showed the least weight gains (P<0.05). No differences (P>0.05) existed in weight gain between the ME groups in which quails ingested CP of 250 and 280 g/kg, whereas quails consuming CP of 220 g/kg with an ME of 13.39 MJ/kg had smaller weight gain than did those ingesting higher CP concentrations (P<0.05). Of main effects for weeks 1-4, quails treated with an ME of 12.13 MJ/kg consumed more feed than did those receiving another ME level, whereas quails in both ME treatments showed similar feed efficiencies. For weeks 5 to 8, no difference (P>0.05) in weight gain, feed intake and feed efficiency was seen regardless of ME levels, and no interaction existed between ME and CP levels. In Experiment 2, the best weight gain and feed efficiency were achieved when the dietary CP concentration was more than 210 g/kg, and quails treated with 11.51 MJ/kg showed better weight gain and feed efficiency (P<0.05) than did those that received 12.13 MJ/kg. Furthermore, the weight gains and protein intakes on the basis of per MJ from the two experiments were pooled together to estimate the protein intake necessary for the best growth performance by two mathematic models; they were then converted to dietary CP concentrations of 204 (minimum) and 233 g/kg (maximum) when ME was 11.51 MJ/kg. In conclusion, BBQ will achieve good growth performance with dietary CP of more than 204 g/kg on the basis of an ME of 11.51 MJ/kg in weeks 1 to 4. 相似文献

Dietary chitosan ( CS) supplementation could improve the growth rate, small intestinal morphology, nutrients apparent digestibility and digestive enzyme activities in pigs, broiler chickens, rats and fish, whereas no data has been reported about the effect of CS on the growing Huoyan geese. Therefore, this study was designed to investigate the effects of CS on growth rate, small intestinal morphology, nutrients apparent utilization and digestive enzyme activities of growing Huoyan geese. Three hundred and twenty (28 days of age, gender balance) Huoyan geese were randomly divided into control, CS 100, CS 200 and CS 400 groups (based on BW) with 20 geese per pen and 4 replicates pen per group, and the feeding experiment lasted for 4 weeks. The 4 diets contained 0, 100, 200 and 400 mg CS per kg feed, respectively. The results showed that CS 200 groups had higher average daily gain, final BW, apparent utilization of DM and CP, and lower feed/gain ratio compared with the control group ( P < 0.05). Meanwhile, CS 100 and CS 200 groups had higher villus height, villus height/crypt depth ratio and lower crypt depth in duodenum and jejunum than those in the control group ( P < 0.05). The geese in CS 100 and CS 200 groups had higher villus height, villus height/crypt depth ratio and lower crypt depth of ileum compared with those in control and CS 400 groups ( P < 0.05). In addition, compared with the control group, CS 200 group has higher trypsin activities and lower lipase activities in duodenal, jejunal and ileal contents ( P < 0.05). The results suggested that addition of 200 mg/kg CS had positive effects on growth rate, small intestinal morphology, nutrients apparent utilization and digestive enzyme activities of growing Huoyan geese. 相似文献

The effect of diabetes (streptozotocin, 65 mg/kg ip), dietary protein intake (15-60%), and plasma amino acid concentrations on brain large neutral amino acid levels in rats was examined. After 20 days, the plasma concentrations of methionine and the branched chain amino acids (BCAA), valine, isoleucine, and leucine were increased in diabetic rats. In brain tissue, methionine and valine levels were increased but threonine, tyrosine, and tryptophan concentrations were depressed. Increased protein consumption promoted a diabetic-like plasma amino acid pattern in normal rats while enhancing that of diabetic animals. However, with the exception of threonine, glycine, valine, and tyrosine, there was little effect on brain amino acid levels. A good association was found between the calculated brain influx rate and the actual brain concentration of threonine, methionine, tyrosine, and tryptophan in diabetic animals. There was no correlation, however, between brain influx rate and brain BCAA levels. Thus, the brain amino acid pattern in diabetes represents the combined effects of insulin insufficiency and composition of the diet ingested on plasma amino acid levels as well as metabolic adaptation within the brain itself. 相似文献

The respective effects of ambient temperature, dietary crude protein and feed intake were investigated in finishing chickens and the consequence of protein supplementation under high temperature conditions was analysed in particular. Heat-related reduction in growth was associated with decreased nitrogen retention (-30 or -35% according to the diet), which could not be explained by the observed lower feed intake alone. Tissue samples performed in 5- to 6-week-old chicks showed varying effects of heat according to the muscles studied: at 32 degrees C, the proportion of Pectoralis major muscle (in percentage of body weight) appeared slightly reduced (reduction lower than 10%), whereas the proportion of two leg muscles were increased (+10 to +15% for the Sartorius muscle; +5% for the gastrocnemius muscle). At 32 degrees C, providing a high protein diet significantly (P < 0.05) increased weight gain and feed efficiency, and slightly improved whole body protein deposition. 相似文献

Agouti-related protein (AGRP) and neuropeptide Y (NPY) are synthesized in the same neurons in the hypothalamic arcuate nucleus. We have previously shown that NPY/AGRP neurons contain growth hormone (GH) receptor mRNA, and are activated following systemic GH administration. We also reported that NPY inhibits GH secretion when administered centrally. In this study, we have examined the effect of AGRP on GH secretion. Central administration of AGRP (83-132) as a single injection of 1 or 10 microg/rat, or chronic treatment of 1 microg/rat, every 12 h for 7 days, did not alter the GH secretory pattern of adult male rats. AGRP (83-132) at doses of 1-100 nM (4 h) did not alter baseline- and GHRH-induced GH secretion from the rat pituitary cell cultures. These results suggest that AGRP does not play a significant role in the feedback regulation of the GH secretion. 相似文献

Adult male rats were maintained on normal (20% casein), protein-free (0% casein), high protein (50% casein), decicient protein (20% zein), and a supplemented, deficient protein (20% zein plus L-lysine and L-tryptophan) diets. Rats on a protein-free diet excreted approximately 1 mg alpha2u/24 h compared with a normal of 10-15 mg/24 h. Depleted rats placed on a 20% casein diet showed a rapid restoration of the normal alpha2u excretion as well as total urinary proteins. Accumulation of alpha2u in the blood serum was measured in nep-rectomized rats. Rats on a 0% casein diet accumulated only 30% of the alpha2u compared to normals. On a 50% casein diet, rats excreted 30-50 mg alpha2u/24 h. However, the accumulation was normal in the serum of nephrectomized rats. A high protein diet did not stimulate alpha2u synthesis but probably increased the renal loss of all urinary proteins. The excretion of alpha2u on a zein diet was reduced to the same degree as with the protein-free diet. Supplementation with lysine and tryptophan restored the capacity to eliminate alpha21 to near normal levels. Accumulation of alpha2u in the serum of nephrectomized rats kept on the zein diets showed that the effect to suppress the synthesis of the ahpha2u. Supplementation restored the biosynthesis of alpha2u. We conclude that the effect of dietary protein on the excretion of urinary proteins in the adult male rat is caused in large part by an influence on the hepatic biosynthesis of alphay2u. The biosynthesis of this protein, which represents approximately 30% of the total urinary proteins, is dependent on an adequate supply of dietary protein. 相似文献

A calorimetric experiment of 4 × 4 Latin square design was undertaken to study the effect of sugar-beet pulp (SBP), maize starch, sucrose and xylose on energy metabolism in sheep. The four diets comprised a diet (A) of dried grass, soya-bean meal and SBP (450, 50 and 500 g kg −1 on dry matter (DM) basis) and corresponding diets in which 400 g kg −1 of SBP was replaced by maize starch (B), sucrose (C) or xylose (D); all diets were offered at a level of 600 g DM day −1. After the Latin square was completed, energy value of the basal diet of dried grass and soya-bean meal (900 and 100 g kg −1 DM; 600 g day −1) was determined in the same four sheep.Treatment differences in organic matter, gross energy, nitrogen (N) and neutral detergent fibre (NDF) digestibility were non-significant. Differences in N retention were not significant.Digestible energy (DE) contents (MJ kg −1 DM) were 13.27, 13.22, 13.21 and 13.21 MJ kg −1 for diets A, B, C and D, respectively. Energy loss in methane was higher ( P < 0.05) for Diet A than for other diets. Metabolizable energy (ME) contents for the diets A-D were 11.25, 11.22, 11.32 and 11.40 MJ kg −1 DM, respectively. Metabolizability ( q) of the diets averaged 0.642 and was not significantly affected by the diet given. There was a trend for heat production to be higher in sheep given the sucrose-containing diet (C) than in those given other diets (6.34 versus 6.04 MJ day −1) and as a result, energy retention was lower (0.38 versus 0.64 MJ day −1), but the difference did not reach statistical difference. Efficiencies of utilization of ME for maintenance and fattening ( kmf) averaged 0.67 and were in good agreement with those predicted from equations of the Agricultural Research Council (1980) excepting the lower kmf (0.63) for Diet C.The mean ME content of SBP calculated by difference was 13.05 MJ kg −1 DM and the corresponding values for mixtures of SBP + starch, SBP + sucrose and SBP + xylose (600 and 400 g kg −1 DM) were 12.98, 13.16 and 13.36 MJ kg −1 DM, respectively. 相似文献
