Summary Chromosomal Q polymorphism was studied in 157 adolescents of Yakut nationality (67 males and 90 females) living in Eastern Siberia, on the territory of the Yakut ASSR. Of the 157 subjects, 123 had chromosomal Q variants while 34 (21.7%) had no Q-heterochromatin bands with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. The mean number of Q variants per individual ranged from 0 to 5, with a mean of 1.64. No differences were observed in the frequency of Q variants between sexes. The observed homo- and heteromorph frequencies always agreed with those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. Of the 157 subjects, four (2.55%) had pericentric inversion of the Q-heterochromatin band in chromosome 3. The following topics are discussed: (1) possible selective value of chromosomal Q-heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to extreme environmental factors, in particular to cold; (2) the taxonomic value of chromosomal Q polymorphism in ethnic anthropology.  相似文献

Summary The distribution pattern of Q-heterochromatin variants in seven autosomes (3, 4, 13–15, 21, and 22) was studied in three aboriginal Negroid populations of Africa (Mozambique, Angola, and Ethiopia). It was shown that among African Negroids there are no individuals completely lacking Q-heterochromatin bands with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. The mean number of Q variants per individual was 3.47, 4.80, and 4.85 in the Ethiopian, Mozambique, and Angola populations, respectively. The observed homo- and heteromorphic frequencies always agreed with those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. The populations of tropical lowland Negroids (Mozambique and Angola) proved to be significantly homogeneous both in the frequency of Q variants and the mean number of these variants per individual, so they were examined as a single group. However, comparative analysis of highland (Ethiopians) and lowland Negroids revealed statistically significant differences. The following questions are discussed: (1) the possible selective value of chromosomal Q heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to high-altitude climate; (2) the possible existence of intraracial heterogeneity in Negroids living in different ecological zones of Africa; (3) the possible taxonomic value of an inverted Q-heterochromatin band in chromosome 3 in ethnic anthropology.  相似文献

Chromosomal Q-polymorphism was studied in 198 Kirghiz subjects (98 males and 100 females) from one high-altitude isolate located in the south-eastern part of Kirghizia. Small samples of mountaineers (N = 37) and volunteer subjects (N = 34) were also studied. The samples studied did not differ significantly from each other in the relative frequencies of chromosomal variants in 12 loci of seven Q-polymorphic autosomes. The mean number of Q variants per individual in the populations ranged from 1.3 to 2.0. No sex differences were found in the frequencies of Q variants. The observed homo- and heteromorphic frequencies agreed with those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. The possible selective value of chromosomal Q heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to high-altitude climate is discussed.  相似文献

Summary Q-heterochromatin variants in seven autosomes (3, 4, 13–15, 21, 22) were studied in two Mongoloid populations of northern Asia (Chukchi and Khakass). Q-staining was obtained using propylquinacrine mustard. Of 132 Chukchi individuals aged 13 to 20 years, 124 had Q-polymorphic chromosomes, while eight (6.0%) had no bands with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. The mean number of Q variants was 2.2 per individual.Of the 120 Khakass individuals aged 14 to 17 years, 112 had Q-polymorphic chromosomes, while eight (6.7%) had no Q variants with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. The mean number of Q variants was 2.5 per individual. No differences were found in the frequency of Q variants between sexes in the two populations. There was complete agreement between the observed homo-and heteromorphic frequencies and those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. As the Mongoloid populations of northern Asia showed statistically significant homogeneity both in the frequency of Q variants and the distribution of homo-and heteromorphic variants, they were examined as a single group—that of northern Mongoloids. The following questions are discussed: (1) the possible selective value of chromosomal Q-heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to certain extreme environmental factors, in particular to cold and hypoxia; (2) the intraracial heterogeneity of Asian Mongoloids; (3) the taxonomic value of chromosomal Q polymorphism in ethnic anthropology.  相似文献

Summary Chromosomal Q polymorphism was studied in 200 Russian individuals (94 females and 106 males) living in Kirghizia. Of the 200 individuals, 191 had chromosomal Q polymorphic variants, while nine (4.5%) had no Q bands with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. The mean number of Q variants per individual ranged from 0 to 7, with a mean of 2.9. There were no differences in the frequency of Q variants between sexes. The observed homo- and heteromorphic frequencies completely agreed with those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. Of the 200 individuals, 12 (6.0%) had pericentric inversion of the Q band in chromosome 3, one individual (0.5%) having a homomorphic form of this inversion. The possible selective value of chromosomal Q heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to extreme environmental factors, in particular to cold, and the possible taxonomic value of inverted Q heterochromatin bands in chromosome 3 in ethnic anthropology, are discussed.  相似文献

Summary A comparative study of frequencies and types of Q-polymorphic variants in seven autosome pairs (3, 4, 13–15, 21, and 22) was performed in three steppe Mongoloid populations of Central Asia (Kazakhs, Dunghans, Mongolians) and three highland Kirghiz populations of Pamir and Tien-Shan. The three steppe Mongoloid populations showed statistically significant homogeneity both in the frequency of Q-polymorphic variants and the distribution of homo- and heteromorphs, with complete agreement of observed frequencies with those theoretically predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. Similar homogeneity was revealed in the three highland Kirghiz populations of Pamir and Tien-Shan. However, comparative analysis of highland and steppe Mongoloids revealed significant differences in the following variables: (1) mean number of Q variants per individual, 2.50 and 3.49 in the highland and steppe populations, respectively; (2) frequency of Q variants in 7 of the 12 autosomes studied; and (3) distribution of homo- and heteromorphs in four autosomal pairs (13–15, 21) with a preponderance of individuals with increased homomorph (-/-) frequency in highlanders.The following questions are discussed: (1) the possible selective value of chromosomal Q-heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to extreme environmental factors, in particular to the high-altitude environment of Pamir and Tien-Shan; (2) the existence of intraracial heterogeneity in Mongoloids living in different ecological zones; and (3) the possible taxonomic value of Q-variant inversion in chromosome 3.  相似文献

Summary Chromosomal Q polymorphism was studied in 116 Turkmen, aboriginals of the Kara-Kum desert of Central Asia. Propylquinacrine mustard was used as fluorochrome. Of the 116 subjects aged 16–20 years, 109 (94.0%) were found to have Q-polymorphic variants, while seven (6.0%) showed complete absence of Q bands with fluorescence levels 4 and 5. There was a total of 351 polymorphic Q bands, 0–7 per individual, with a mean of 3.0 in the population. No differences between sexes were observed in the frequency of Q bands. The observed homo- and heteromorph frequencies proved to be in complete agreement with those predicted by the law of Hardy-Weinberg. Chromosome 3 with pericentric inversion of the Q-heterochromatin band was found in two (1.7%) of the 116 subjects.The following questions were examined: (1) the possible selective value of chromosomal Q-heterochromatin material in the adaptation of human populations to extreme environmental factors, in particular to the desert climate; (2) intracial heterogeneity in Europoids of Eurasia; (3) the taxonomic value of Q polymorphism in ethnic anthropology.  相似文献

The relationship between the basic quantitative characteristics of the Q-heterochromatin (Q-HR) region variability of autosomes and of the Y chromosome in human populations was examined. A definite relationship between the mean number of Q-HR per individual, the distribution and frequencies of Q-HR on autosomes and the size of the Q-heterochromatin segment of the Y chromosome at the population level was shown to exist. The amount of autosomal Q-HR was lower in individuals with larger Q-heterochromatin segments on Y chromosomes, and vice versa. The hypothesis that the amount of chromosomal Q-HR in the genome of modern human populations may be under the control of natural selection, is discussed.  相似文献

The karyotypes of seven Ilybius species are described and illustrated. All except I. wasastjernae have a basic karyotype of 34 autosomes plus sex chromosomes which are X0 ( male symbol ), XX ( female symbol ), with the X chromosome among the largest in the nucleus. This karyotype appears to be the norm for Ilybius and supports the transfer of the species concerned from Agabus to Ilybius. I. wasastjernae has 36 autosomes and the X chromosome is the smallest in the nucleus and its karyotype is unlike any other known karyotype in either Ilybius or Agabus. In most of the species studied no intraspecific variation has been detected. Exceptions are I. chalconatus, where there is one inversion polymorphism in one of the autosomes, and I. montanus whose autosome number has been found to vary from 29 to 34. Such variation is highly unusual among Coleoptera. The variation results from fusion-fission polymorphisms involving three different pairs of autosomes. In each case the fusions may be homozygous, heterozygous or absent. All populations investigated were polymorphic for some of the fusions, but only one (La Salceda, Spain) included individuals lacking all fusions. The frequencies of fused and unfused chromosomes were analysed in three English populations. In only one case was there a departure from the values expected from the Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium, and this population also showed a significant difference from the other two. Meiosis in males heterozygous for fusions involves the production of trivalents in first division, but results in the production of abundant sperm, with no evidence of chromosomal abnormalities in second metaphase, or of degenerating cells as a result of failed meiosis. The three fusions sites are consistent in all the populations studied, and it is concluded that these fusions represent unique historical events rather than current chromosomal instability.  相似文献

Fifteen polymorphic microsatellite markers were used to establish linkage groups and relative rates of recombination in male and female Myzus persicae (Sulzer) (Hemiptera: Aphididae) (peach-potato aphid). We cloned nine markers from M. persicae and for these we report primer sequences and levels of allelic diversity and heterozygosity in four Australian M. persicae populations. Of the remaining six loci, four loci, also cloned from M. persicae, were obtained from G. Malarky (Natural History Museum, London) and two loci from Sitobion miscanthi were used. Additionally, the primer sequences of locus M77, a locus monomorphic in M. persicae but polymorphic in the closely related Myzus antirrhinii, are presented. Eleven of the 15 polymorphic markers were autosomal and four were X-linked. A linkage analysis was performed on a European pedigree of aphids containing five families with between seven and 11 offspring each. There was no linkage between any loci in females. In males, several pairwise comparisons yielded no recombinant offspring. With the exception of locus M40, these observations were supported in a linkage analysis performed on larger families produced from Australian M. persicae crosses. Locus M40 showed segregation consistent with involvement in a translocation between autosomes 1 and 3 in European samples but not in the Australian samples. From the Australian crosses we report an absence of recombination in males but high recombination rates in females. One X chromosome and four autosomal linkage groups were identified and tentatively assigned to chromosomes. The relevance of achiasmate meiosis to the evolution of sex is discussed.  相似文献

Immunostaining of chromosomes shows that the male-specific lethal (MSL) proteins are associated with all female chromosomes at a low level but are sequestered to the X chromosome in males. Histone-4 Lys-16 acetylation follows a similar pattern in normal males and females, being higher on the X and lower on the autosomes in males than in females. However, the staining pattern of acetylation and the mof gene product, a putative histone acetylase, in msl mutant males returns to a uniform genome-wide distribution as found in females. Gene expression on the autosomes correlates with the level of histone-4 acetylation. With minor exceptions, the expression levels of X-linked genes are maintained with either an increase or decrease of acetylation, suggesting that the MSL complex renders gene activity unresponsive to H4Lys16 acetylation. Evidence was also found for the presence of nucleation sites for association of the MSL proteins with the X chromosome rather than individual gene binding sequences. We suggest that sequestration of the MSL proteins occurs in males to nullify on the autosomes and maintain on the X, an inverse effect produced by negatively acting dosage-dependent regulatory genes as a consequence of the evolution of the X/Y sex chromosomal system.  相似文献

F(1) males obtained from the cross of D. pseudoobscura females from Bogotá (Colombia) x males of this species from mainland, i.e. populations from various locations in the United States and from Guatemala, are sterile. This sterility is due to genes located on the X chromosome and the autosomes; the Y chromosome is not involved. The percentage of sterile males in backcrosses can be explained by assuming an interaction between two loci on the Bogotá X chromosome and probably two loci, one each on two of the mainland autosomes. The role of founder events, inbreeding and geographic isolation in the development of reproductive isolation and the magnitude of gene differences responsible for the origin of reproductive isolation is discussed. It is concluded that founder events, inbreeding and geographic isolation play a major role in the development of reproductive isolation and that major adaptive incorporation of new alleles at a large number of structural loci is not necessary for the origin of reproductive isolation.  相似文献

We used polymorphic microsatellite markers to look for recombination during parthenogenetic oogenesis between the X chromosomes of aphids of the tribe Macrosiphini. We examined the X chromosome because it comprises approximately 25 % of the genome and previous cytological observations of chromosome pairing and nucleolar organizer (NOR) heteromorphism suggest recombination, although the same is not true for autosomes. A total of 564 parthenogenetic females of Myzus clones with three distinct reproductive modes (cyclical parthenogenesis, obligate parthenogenesis and obligate parthenogenesis with male production) were genotyped at three informative X-linked loci. Also, parthenogenetically produced males from clones encompassing the full range of male-producing reproductive strategies were genotyped. These included 391 Myzus persicae males that were genotyped at three X-linked loci and 538 males from Sitobion clones that were genotyped at five informative X-linked loci. Our results show no departure from clonality in parthenogenetic generations of aphids of the tribe Macrosiphini: no recombinant genotypes were observed in parthenogenetically produced males or females.  相似文献

Four loci mapping to the nonrecombining portion of the Y chromosome were genotyped in Japanese populations from Okinawa, the southernmost island of Japan; Shizuoka and Aomori on the main island of Honshu; and a small sample of Taiwanese. The Y Alu polymorphic (YAP) element is present in 42% of the Japanese and absent in the Taiwanese, confirming the irregular distribution of this polymorphism in Asia. Data from the four loci were used to determine genetic distances among populations, construct Y chromosome haplotypes, and estimate the degree of genetic diversity in each population and on different Y chromosome haplotypes. Evolutionary analysis of Y haplotypes suggests that polymorphisms at the YAP (DYS287) and DXYS5Y loci originated a single time, whereas restriction patterns at the DYS1 locus and microsatellite alleles at the DYS19 locus arose more than once. Genetic distance analysis indicated that the Okinawans are differentiated from Japanese living on Honshu. The data support the hypotheses that modern Japanese populations have resulted from distinctive genetic contributions involving the ancient Jomon people and Yayoi immigrants from Korea or mainland China, with Okinawans experiencing the least amount of admixture with the Yayoi. It is suggested that YAP+ chromosomes migrated to Japan with the Jomon people > 10,000 years ago and that a large infusion of YAP- chromosomes entered Japan with the Yayoi migration starting 2,300 years ago. Different degrees of genetic diversity carried by these two ancient chromosomal lineages may be explained by the different life-styles (hunter-gatherer versus agriculturalist). of the migrant groups, the size of the founding populations, and the antiquities of the founding events.  相似文献

The genetic structure of six Iberian populations of the whitefly Bemisia tabaci, two of them biotype Q, one biotype B, and the other three a mixture of both, has been studied using random amplified polymorphic DNA-polymerase chain reaction (RAPD-PCR). A total of 336 individuals was completely discriminated by means of 234 scored bands. Separate analyses of molecular variance of haploid males and diploid females using the pairwise number of differences between haplotypes showed that biotypes contribute significantly more to the observed variability than populations within biotypes. On average, gene flow between two biotypes of the same population is lower than between populations of identical biotypes. On the basis of these results and the nondetection under natural conditions of a single hybrid, we consider that both biotypes are genetically isolated under the ecological conditions prevailing in the south Iberian Peninsula. All populations of biotype Q presented similar values of intrapopulational diversity, which were higher than the values shown by populations of biotype B.  相似文献

Summary A karyotype with six de novo autosomal abnormalities in chromosomes 2, 4, 9, 10, 12, and 13 was identified in a 7-year-old boy with mental retardation and other minor malformations. The G-and C-banding techniques revealed an equilibrated translocation between autosomes 2 and 4 and between autosomes 9 and 13. One chromosome 10 has lost genetic material from its short arms, probably because of an interstitial deletion. An unidentified chromosomal fragment has become inserted in the long arms of an autosome 12. The G bands demonstrate that genetic material inserted in the autosome 12 is not the genetic material deleted from the autosome 10.The propositus presents clinical features similar to the reported cases with 10p-syndrome. Nevertheless it is not possible to establish the influence of the genetic material inserted in autosome 12 on the propositus' phenotype.  相似文献

A cDNA clone of the beta subunit of human fibronectin receptor (FNRB) detects two different polymorphic loci: (a) a codominant system previously mapped to the pericentromeric region of chromosome 10, the site of the functional FNRB gene; and (b) a dominant system not linked to the first one or to any chromosome 10 marker tested. This second polymorphism is characterized by the presence or absence of a band (or a set of bands). We have used linkage analysis and biotin-labeled in situ hybridization to map this dominant polymorphism to the short arm of chromosome 19; we hypothesize that it may be due to the insertion of part of the cDNA from the chromosome 10 gene into chromosome 19. This "insertion" is polymorphic in all populations studied.  相似文献

The reduction of mutation rates on the mammalian X chromosome relative to autosomes is most often explained in the literature as evidence of male-driven evolution. This hypothesis attributes lowered mutation rates on the X chromosome to the fact that this chromosome spends less time in the germline of males than in the germline of females. In contrast to this majority view, two articles argued that the patterns of mutation rates across chromosomes are inconsistent with male-driven evolution. One article reported a 40% reduction in synonymous substitution rates (Ks) for X-linked genes relative to autosomes in the mouse-rat lineage. The authors argued that this reduction is too dramatic to be explained by male-driven evolution and concluded that selection has systematically reduced mutation rate on the X chromosome to a level optimal for this male-hemizygous chromosome. More recently, a second article found that chromosomal mutation rates in both the human-mouse and mouse-rat lineages were so heterogeneous that the X chromosome was not an outlier. Here again, the authors argued that this is at odds with male-driven evolution and suggested that selection has modulated chromosomal mutation rates to locally optimal levels, thus extending the argument of the first mentioned article to include autosomes. Here, we reexamine these conclusions using mouse-rat and human-mouse coding-region data. We find a more modest reduction of Ks on the X chromosome, but our results contradict the finding that the X chromosome is not distinct from autosomes. Multiple statistical tests show that Ks rates on the X chromosome differ systematically from the autosomes in both lineages. We conclude that the moderate reduction of mutation rate on the X chromosome of both lineages is consistent with male-driven evolution; however, the large variance in mutation rates across chromosomes suggests that mutation rates are affected by additional factors besides male-driven evolution. Investigation of mutation rates by synteny reveals that synteny blocks, rather than entire chromosomes, might represent the unit of mutation rate variation.  相似文献

Karyotype and genetic variation of the common shrew (Sorex araneus) from Mt. Pelister in southern Macedonia has been studied. Whereas all autosomes in the chromosomal set (2 na, = 28, the only present metacentrics being af, bc, jl, and tu) were of the standard type as well as the sex chromosomes X and Y2 in males, the Y1 chromosome was a small metacentric. This chromosomal feature is unique among the common shrew populations studied cytogenetically so far. Three out of 33 loci analysed (Sdh, 6Pgd, Mdh-1) were discriminant between the Mt. Pelister population and Sorex araneus from Slovenia and two loci (Est-3, Ada) were partially discriminant. A relatively high value of Nei's genetic distance (D = 0.137) confirms unique character of the Pelister population.  相似文献

Hybrid zones are regions where genetically different populations meet and mate, resulting in offspring of mixed characteristics. In organisms with limited dispersal, such as melanopline grasshoppers, hybrid zones can occur at small spatial scales (i.e., <500 m). We assessed levels of morphological, chromosomal, and molecular variability in adult males of the grasshopper Dichroplus pratensis Bruner (N = 137 males, 188 females) collected at 12 sites within a mosaic hybrid zone in a heterogeneous environment in Sierra de la Ventana, Argentina. In this hybrid zone, 2 Robertsonian chromosomal races, polymorphic for different centric fusions, meet (the "Northern race" at low altitudes and the "Southern race" at higher altitudes), forming hybrids that show monobrachial homologies during meiosis. High morphometric variation in 6 traits was revealed among grasshoppers of both sexes, with male body size positively and significantly correlated with increasing altitude. Frequency of Robertsonian fusions characteristic of the Southern race increased significantly with altitude. Moreover, fusion frequencies covaried between samples. Considerable genetic variation was revealed by random amplification of polymorphic DNA markers, with heterozygosity ranging from 0.3477 to 0.3745. Insects from low-altitude and high-altitude populations showed significant genetic differentiation, as indicated by F(ST) values. The proposed model for D. pratensis, involving the generation and maintenance by chromosomal fusions, of gene complexes adaptive in different environments, could explain the observed clinal patterns within the contact zone.  相似文献
