Evidence on occurrence in catches and characteristic of the spatial-bathymetric distribution and size indices of four species of Cottidae—frog sculpin Myoxocephalus stelleri, brightbelly sculpin Microcottus sellaris, antlered sculpin Enophrys diceraus, and furseal sculpin Stelgistrum stejnegeri—in summer-autumn months in the Okhotsk Sea waters off Kamchatka (site from 51°15′ to 57°20′ N, depths of 11–100 m) are provided. The first three species occur mainly in the northern part of the shelf above 54° N at depths smaller than 30–40 m within a comparatively well warmed surface water mass of seasonal modification at near-bottom temperature values above 6°C at various solid grounds. Maximum catches of S. stejnegeri were recorded only at a site of the western Kamchatka shelf from 54°00′ to 54°20′ N on pebbly-stony ground in a narrow bathy-metric range of 41–60 m on the boundary between the well warmed surface water mass of autumn modification and the cold intermediate water mass at a water temperature below 2°C. Evidence on the size-weight indices of the studied species of Cottidae in trawl catches in the Okhotsk Sea waters off Kamchatka in the study period is provided.  相似文献

Results of trawl catches show that in the summer period, in the waters of Primorsky Krai, Russia, Sea of Japan, the purplegray sculpin Gymnocanthus detrisus occurs at depths of 20 to 411 m, preferring the range 80–250 m. The temperature of the species’ habitat varies from 0.8 to 8.6 ° C, and the optimal one is 1.2–2.2 °C. G. detrisus occurs at the preferred depths more frequently in the southern area—the Peter the Great Bay, which is more favorable for foraging; in the area of North Primorsky Krai it was found both at greater and lesser depths. The latter is probably determined by the more limited spreading of waters with unsuitable temperatures for the species there. The body size of the purplegray sculpin grows with depth. Juveniles avoid depths over 200 m, where inflow of low-temperature waters is recorded. G. detrisus, which inhabits waters of Primorsky Krai, is represented mainly by females; the proportion of males exceeds that of females only in the 21–27 cm size group. This may be related to the lower growth rate in males after maturation as compared to females.  相似文献

Data on the spatiotemporal distribution, size-age structure, individual fecundity, and food composition of the Pacific sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus in waters off Kamchatka in the Sea of Okhotsk in the summer months are provided. It is shown that, on the western Kamchatka shelf, this species is found uniformly at depths smaller than 100 m in the range of temperatures from ?0.83 to 9.45°C. Maximum catches (more than one to three thousand individuals per hour of trawling) are constantly recorded locally in the central part of the shelf (52°–56°N) in a comparatively narrow range of depths 20–60 m at temperatures of 1.5–8.0°C, mainly on sandy and sandy-pebbly grounds, which is related to a specific behavioral feature of A. hexapterus such as burrowing itself into the ground. It was established that in waters off Kamchatka in the Sea of Okhotsk, maximum sizes of A. hexapterus are 27 cm and 54 g (although its individuals with a length of 18–24 cm and a body weight of 20–40 g occur more frequently in catches); individual fecundity varies from 9.9 to 59.9 (on average, 29.7) thousand eggs. It was shown that, in waters off Kamchatka in the Sea of Okhotsk, unlike other habitats, the main food items of A. hexapterus (more than 95% by weight), besides copepods, are pelagic tunicates Oikopleura sp. and larval decapods at the megalope stage. With an increase in the size of A. hexapterus, the proportion of the former in its food decreases and, of the latter, increases.  相似文献

Based on materials of 1992?C2012, data on the occurrence, spatial-bathymetric distribution, and size-weight composition of armorhead sculpin Gymnocanthus galeatus and purplegray sculpin G. detrisus and species accompanying them in catches in Pacific waters of the northern Kuril Islands and southeastern Kamchatka are provided. These comparatively numerous, medium-sized representatives of the family Cottidae (maximal length of the former species 49 cm, weight 1400 g and that of the latter, 48 cm and 1140 g) in the period of study occurred uniformly at depths of 76 to 596 m at a near-bottom temperatures of ?1.2 to + 4.5°C. Their maximum by density concentrations were constantly recorded at the beam of the Fourth Kuril Strait, from the oceanic side of the Paramushir and Shumshu Islands, and off the southeastern extremity of Kamchatka mainly in the lower part of the shelf (depths of 80?C200 m) at temperatures of ?1.0 to +2.5°C. Regularities of spatial-bathymetric distribution of different size groups of these species were analyzed. It was shown that the occurrence and the size of catches of both armorhead sculpins in Pacific waters of the northern Kuril Islands and southeastern Kamchatka are subjected to some inrterannual, seasonal, and diurnal dynamics.  相似文献

According to materials of 1997–2002, the characteristic of the spatial-bathymetric distribution, size and age composition, size and sex structure, and feeding of the Korean flounder Glyptocephalus stelleri in the summer period in waters off Kamchatka in the Sea of Okhotsk (the site from 51°15′ to 57°20′ N, depths of 10–300 m) is given. It is shown that throughout the observation period, maximum catches of this flatfish were constantly observed at two sites of the western Kamchatka shelf (51°20′–53°00′ N and 55°00′–56°00′ N) in the zone exposed to the effect of anticyclonic gyres in the range of depths 101–200 m at the near-bottom temperature below 2°C. Unlike other habitat areas, off the coast of western Kamchatka, G. stelleri in the summer time is quite frequently found at negative temperature values, which is obviously determined by the specifics of thermal conditions of the eastern part of the Sea of Okhotsk. It was established that, in this species of flatfish, sex dimorphism is distinctly pronounced in sizes—males are considerably smaller than females whose relative number among individuals with a length larger than 50 cm reaches 100%. The main items of feeding of G. stelleri at the western Kamchatka shelf in the summer period are oligochaetes.  相似文献

It has been found, with reference to the data of trawl survey and literature, that, in the Sea of Japan, the Northern boundary of the area of the elongated sculpin Alcichthys elongatus is the central part of the Tatar Strait. During the year, the elongated sculpin occurs at depths from 7 to 650 m. Its highest concentration forms during the feeding period. At this time Alcichthys elongatus stays up to depths 253 m but prefers the range of 40–100 m. It winters below the 50 m isobath, mainly in the lower part of the shelf and in the upper section of the continental slope. Being an eurythermal species, the elongated sculpin occurs in a wide range of temperature (from −1.6 to 17.7°C). However, most specimens prefer waters with slightly positive temperature. Juveniles prefer the warm water layers. Males are larger than females but the latter dominate in catches. According to the kind of diet A. elongatus, it is a benthoichtyophage consuming predominantly decapods (mostly juveniles of Chionoecetes opilio) and small fish. In summer, the value of daily ration is 3.0% of the body weight. In the north-western part of the Sea of Japan, A. elongatus may be characterized as a common species with a low but stable abundance.  相似文献

Species composition, ratio, distribution, and size composition of Zoarcidae on the shelf and the upper part of the continental slope of the northern part of Japan at depths of 5 to 700 m were analyzed on the basis of four trawl surveys. In the studied area, nine species of Zoarcidae were found: Bilabria sp., Bothrocara hollandi, Davidijordania lacertina, Lycodes japonicus, L. nakamurae, L. cf. yamatoi, L. tanakae, L. toyamensis, and L. cf. ushakovi. Data on catches, density of distribution at different depths, and size composition are listed for each species. Four species: B. hollandi, L. tanakae, L. nakamurae, and L. cf. yamatoi have the greatest biomass and numbers among zoarcids in the northern part of the Sea of Japan. It was shown that zoarcids from the northern part of the Sea of Japan, similar to most demersal fish, perform seasonal migrations from the depths of 200 to 500 m, which they inhabit in the summer period, to depths larger than 400 m in the winter. It was found that the most common species of Zoarcidae (B. hollandi, L. tanakae, L. nakamurae, L. cf. yamatoi, and L. toyamensis) dwell mainly in waters of the intermediate water mass and the upper part of the Sea of Japan water mass. These species are abundant at depths larger than 200 m, which permits assigning them to a mesobenthal ecological group. All of the studied species of Zoarcidae from the given region are stenothermal—the temperature range of their habitation is below 2°C, as a rule, from 0.3 to 2.5°C.  相似文献

Main features of spatial distribution and thermal regime of habitation of Lycodes nakamurae and L. yamatoi in Russian waters of the Sea of Japan are discussed. Comparative analysis of specific features of distribution of eelpouts of the mesobenthal group (L. nakamurae, L. yamatoi, L. tanakae) in some areas of the Sea of Japan with different hydrological conditions is provided. No horizontal migrations directed along isobaths were revealed in these species. In Russian waters of the Sea of Japan, L. nakamurae inhabits depths 130–760 m, preferring the range of depths 200–700 m (it was found in catches of 95.7% of trawlings); L. yamatai inhabits depths 140–800 m, but most frequently is found in the range of depths 200–500 m (86.1% of trawlings). L. nakamurae occurs at a temperature of 0.4–1.2°C and L. yamatoi is found at 0.3–1.9°C. Seasonal migrational activity in the former species is more pronounced than in the latter. Spring-summer migration towards the shelf for feeding and reproduction and autumn-winter wintering migration towards the continental slope taking place with the cooling of the shelf are noticeable. Maximum range of vertical migrations is typical of medium-size fish and minimal is typical of juveniles of the studied species that inhabit the upper section of the bathyal (200–400 m). It is suggested that the lower limit of distribution of eelpouts of the mesobenthal group in the southern and northern sectors of the Sea of Japan coincide. The upper boundary of habitation of the species in different seasons of the year is totally determined by the thermal regime of water masses in different areas of the sea.  相似文献

Feeding patterns of the great sculpin Myoxocephalus polyacanthocephalus in near-Kamchatka waters of the Sea of Okhotsk, the Bering Sea and Pacific Ocean are considered using materials collected during 1978–2002. This species of Cottidae is characterized by wide feeding spectra (over 150 nutritive objects); nonetheless, fishes (on average 61.1%) and Decapoda (20.0%) have the highest significance in its diet. The fishes include Alaska pollock Theragra chalcogramma (32.7% of food mass), flatfish Pleuronectidae (12.2%), and sculpins Cottidae (10.5%); Decapoda include crabs from the family Majidae (18.5%). Seasonal, local, interannual, and age-related changes in food composition of the great sculpin are considered. This species is a facultative ambuscade predator; it is characterized by wide feeding spectra that permits him to use a considerable range of food components. In the trophic system of near-Kamchatka regions, units that form the biomass of the great sculpin are selected.  相似文献

The study of materials that were collected by trawling and diving in the Tatar Strait (Sea of Japan) in 2010 showed that the commercial bivalve Crenomytilus grayanus is distributed northward along the continental coast of the Khabarovsk region to Mosolov Bay (51°14.308?? N, 140°42.358?? E). Mussel druses and single mussels were found at depths of 3?C32 m in bays, along the open sea coast on rocks, boulders, and in other biotopes characteristic of this species. The growth rate of C. grayanus in the Tatar Strait varied depending on the habitat conditions and was markedly lower than in the warmer waters of Peter the Great Bay, where at similar depths this species reaches its legal size 5?C8 years earlier. The lifespan of C. grayanus in the Tatar Strait is 126 years, a value comparable with the lifespan of this species in more southern areas.  相似文献

This paper studies the species composition and quantitative distribution of diatoms that belong to the genus Pseudo-nitzschia in the Russian waters of the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk. In total, 11 species of this genus were found in the area, including 7 that are known as being potentially toxic. The highest concentrations of Pseudo-nitzschia microalgae (1.4 × 106–2.7 × 106 cells/L) were found in the summer and autumn in the Peter the Great Bay of the Sea of Japan and the lowest concentrations (2.5 × 102–1 × 104 cells/L) were found in the Sakhalinsky and Akademiya bays of the Sea of Okhotsk. The species diversity of potentially toxic diatoms was greatest (seven species) and the cell concentrations highest (over 6 × 105 cells/L) in the Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan, and in the Aniva Bay, Sea of Okhotsk. The density of potentially toxic species was highest near the northeastern coast of Sakhalin Island, in the Amur River estuary, and in adjacent waters. This paper also presents geographical distribution maps of Pseudo-nitzschia species and maps of the density distribution of potentially toxic microalgae over the studied area and identifies potential amnesic shellfish poisoning areas.  相似文献

Feeding of the Okhotsk sculpin Myoxocephalus ochotensis, an endemic of the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk, is studied on the materials of two bottom trawl surveys in 2004–2005 in the Gulf of Shelikhov. The quantitative and qualitative characteristics of its food spectrum depending on the linear sizes are given. It is revealed that its food spectrum includes the crustaceans, mollusks, fishes, and polychaeta. In the composition of crustaceans being a basic food group, the gammarids and small species of shrimps are replaced by crabs and large shrimps as the fishes grow. It is found that the individuals of the Okhotsk sculpin with a length from 15 to 20 cm have a mixed type of feeding, and the fishes larger than 20 cm are predators to a greater extent.  相似文献

Little is known about species composition, distribution, and abundance of pelagic fish in the U.S. portion of the Beaufort Sea continental shelf and slope. To inventory the community and describe pelagic fish distributions relative to water characteristics, a systematic survey was conducted in August 2008. Acoustics (38 kHz), midwater trawling, and CTD casts were used to sample water depths from 20 to 500 m. Age-1+ polar cod (Boreogadus saida) was the dominant fish species, with peak densities of 155,000 # ha−1 at bottom depths of 100–350 m. Age-0 fish (polar cod, sculpin (Cottidae family), and eelblenny (Lumpenus sp.)), dominated the pelagic biomass at bottom depths between 20 and 75 m, with peak densities of 160,000 # ha−1, but were also found in surface waters at bottom depths >75 m. Age-1+ polar cod were associated with cold, saline waters likely of Chukchi Sea origin and mirrored published foraging distributions for beluga whales (Delphinapterus leucas). Conversely, age-0 fish were found in warm, fresher water, likely of ice melt and/or riverine origin, throughout the study area. This study provides a necessary baseline for the development of Arctic assessment surveys and management plans for polar cod.  相似文献

In summer-autumn of 2003–2004, the ichthyoplankton of the Sea of Okhotsk comprised 35 species. In this period the most widely distributed and numerous were larvae of the lord Hemilepidotus gilberti, the Pacific stout sand lance Ammodytes hexapterus, and the Sakhalin dab Limanda sakhalinensis. The maximum catches of fish larvae were attributed to coastal waters off eastern Sakhalin and to the shelf of the northern part of the Sea of Okhotsk. In November of 2003, the ichthyoplankton of the Sea of Japan was represented by fish larvae belonging mainly to the boreal ichthyocomplex. The catches consisted predominantly of larvae of the arabesque greenling Pleurogrammus azonus, the ronquil Bathymaster derjugini, and the rockfish Sebastes owstoni. Fish larvae and fry in the northwestern part of the Sea of Japan were caught principally within 43°–45° N and 137°–139° E above the depth 1500–2000 m. The food spectrum of fish larvae in the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan comprised over 20 plankters of various size belonging to seven taxa. Irrespective of fish species, the food items common of all fish were copepods Pseudocalanus minutus and Oithona similis. The daily rations were calculated for mass species (Hemilepidotus gilberti, Ammodytes hexapterus, Hexagrammos stelleri, Pleurogrammus azonus, Bathymaster derjugini, and Sebastes owstoni). The larvae of all considered species in the Sea of Japan and in the Sea of Okhotsk fed predominantly in the light period of the day.  相似文献

According to the data of ichthyological surveys conducted in Onega and Kandalaksha bays of the White Sea in June 2015, the abundance and pattern of spatial distribution of larvae of the White Sea herring Clupea pallasii marisalbi are comparable with those of 2012. Aggregations of herring larvae detected at a distance of 12?14 km from the coast in the apex part of Kandalaksha Bay are probably the result of their mass drift caused by fresh floodwater discharge. In coastal waters of the bays adjacent to the littoral part, the abundance of herring larvae above the depths less than 5 m varies considerably due to their drift under effect of alongshore and/or tidal currents. The White Sea herring larvae reach high abundance only in the inlets (Chupa, Knyazhaya, Belaya, and Maikova inlets) with the river runoff; their length increases with the distance from spawning grounds. In different years, the main bulk of herring larvae in Knyazhaya Inlet is concentrated at depths about 12–15 m at 6?8°C, or moved to the upper 5-m quasi-homogeneous layer when the water temperature at the depth was 0?1°C.  相似文献

The eelpout Lycodes soldatovi was found at depths of 153 to 1005 m in the Sea of Okhotsk; however, it usually inhabits the depth range of 400 to 800. The mean and maximum abundance and the biomass of this species were 198.5 and 1037 individuals per km2 and 173.7 and 1275 kg/km2, respectively. In view of the data on the distribution of young fish (up to 30 cm in total body length) and the reports on the absence of Lycodes larvae, a hypothesis was developed that this species spawns predominantly in the waters off western Kamchatka and eastern Sakhalin at the depth range of 700 to 900 m. Large individuals (>50 cm) exhibit higher migratory activity and are more tolerant of environmental conditions. That is why they are encountered throughout the distribution area of this species, even in subzero temperature areas. Lycodes soldatovi seems to be a typical inhabitant of the Sea of Okhotsk, except for the waters off the South and Central Kuril Islands and the Pacific waters off the North Kuril Islands.  相似文献

The results of the long-term (1963–2015) studies of spatial and vertical distributions, dynamics of abundance and size composition of the Okhotsk skate Bathyraja violacea in the North Pacific Ocean are presented. This species is the most abundant at depths of 100–400 m; in the cold season, it migrates to the larger depths for wintering, while it migrates to shallower depths in the warm season. Specimens of the length 12 to 132 cm with prevalence of skates of 50 to 80 cm long were recorded in catches. The difference between males and females in body weight and length was not considerable. Condition factor of specimens decreases from January to August and begins to increase in September. Males dominate among the skates up to 30 cm long, females dominate in the size groups of 30–60 cm and >70 cm, while an almost equal sex ratio is observed in the size group of 60–70 cm. The dynamics of the catches of the Okhotsk skate vary in different regions: in the western Bering Sea and in the Sea of Okhotsk, the catches consistently increased during the study period, the catches increased to the mid-1980s–early 1990s in the Kuril and Kamchatka waters of the Pacific Ocean, and then a decrease has been observed; in the eastern Bering Sea, the peak of catches occurred in the mid-1970s, and then they decreased subsequently.  相似文献

Synopsis Antifreeze protein levels in the plasma of the grubby sculpin, Myoxocephalus aenaeus and the tomcod, Microgadus tomcod of Long Island coastal waters start to increase by November in anticipation of midwinter freezing conditions. Peak levels of antifreeze, as measured by the difference in plasma melting and freezing points, were detected in January for both species. The thermal hysteresis values reached 0.459°C in sculpin and 0.51°C in tomcod. Antifreeze peptides and glycopeptides start to disappear when water temperatures begin to rise and are at insignificant levels by late spring. Aspects of the seasonal cycle and the level of antifreeze activity were compared in three sympatric species (sculpin, tomcod, flounder); in two closely related but ecologically distinct gadids (tomcod, Atlantic cod); and within the genus Myoxocephalus.  相似文献
