Sixteen species of the tanaidacean subfamily Pseudotanainae and three of the family Nototanaidae have been recorded from shallow and deep waters in the north-east Atlantic. Six new species of Pseudotanais , and the new genera Mystriocentrus, Parapseudotanais and Bathytanaissus are described. The species Pseudotanais affinis is re-described, and a cladistic analysis of the 'affinis' species-group is presented. Pseudotanais is a eurybathic genus and individuals of this taxon are common in the region. The Nototanaidae is poorly represented in the deep-sea, and the present record is the first for the Northern Hemisphere.  相似文献

The diural caudal skeleton of teleostean actinopterygians develops phylogeneticaily and ontogenetically from a polyural skeleton. The reduction of the polyural anlage to four, three, two or fewer centra in the adult caudal skeleton takes different pathways in different genera (e.g. compare Elops and Albula) and groups of teleosts. As a result, ural centra are not homologous throughout the teleosts. By numbering the ural centra in a homocercal tail in polyural fashion, one can demonstrate these and the following differences. The ventral elements (hypurals) always occur in sequential series, whereas the dorsal elements (epurals and uroneurals) may alter like the ural centra. The number of epurals, five or four in fossil primitive teleosts, is reduced in other primitive and advanced teleosts, but the same epurals are not always lost. The number of uroneurals, seven in fossil teleosts, is reduced in living teleosts, but it has not been demonstrated that the first uroneural is always derived from the neural arch of the same ural centrum. The landmark in the homocercal tail is the preural centrum I which can be identified by (1) bifurcation of the caudal artery and vein in its ventral element, the parhypural, (2) its position directly caudal to the preural centrum (PU2) which supports the lowermost principal caudal ray with its haemal spine, (3) carrying the third hypaxial element ventral to the course of arteria and vena pinnalis, and (4) by carrying the first haemal spine (parhypural) below the dorsal end of the ventral cartilage plate. The study of the development of the vertebral column reveals that teleosts have different patterns of centrum formation. A vertebral centrum is a complete or partial ring of mineralized, cartilaginous or bony material surrounding at least the lateral sides of the notochord. A vertebral centrum may be formed by arcocentrum alone, or arcocentral arcualia and chordacentrum, or arco-, chorda- and autocentrum, or arcocentral arcualia and autocentrum. This preliminary research demonstrates that a detailed ontogenetic interpretation of the vertebral centra and of the caudal skeleton of different teleosts may be useful tools for further interpretations of teleostean interrelationships.  相似文献

Skeletal ultrastructure and phylogeny of cyclostome bryozoans   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Recent research on the ultrastructure of the calcareous skeleton in the bryozoan order Cyclostomata is summarized and updated, based on field emission SEM studies of 87 species. Six fundamental ultrastructural fabrics are recognized which differ in the crystallographic orientations, shapes and prevailing growth directions of the constituent crystallites. During the growth of individual walls a succession of fabrics is secreted, defining a fabric suite. Five fabric suites are described in interior walls and four in exterior walls. Nine ultrastructural characters were combined with 37 other skeletal characters in a PAUP analysis of the relationships between 28 post-Palaeozoic cyclostomes chosen to include representatives of all suborders. A single tree of length 142 steps was found. Comparison of tree statistics for three categories of characters showed ultrastructural characters to be more homoplastic than zooidal characters, and the latter more homoplastic than colonial characters. Rooting the tree on the paleotubuliporine Cuffeyella gave four transitions from fixed- to free-walled organization and no reversals. With respect to the five extant suborders of cyclostomes, this first, preliminary analysis implies that Rectangulata and Cancellata are monophyletic groups, whereas Articulata are diphyletic, and both Tubuliporina and Cerioporina paraphyletic.  相似文献

The polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon phenanthrene was converted mainly (>90%) to the 1,2-dihydrodiol when metabolized in vivo by the marine teleost cod. This is also found in other bony fishes, but contrary to what is known from cartilaginous fish, crustaceans and mammals, where the K-region 9,10-dihydrodiol is the main metabolite. When liver microsomal preparations from differently pretreated cod were incubated with phenanthrene in vitro, the metabolic profile was dramatically different from the in vivo pattern, as shown by gas chromatography—mass spectrometry. The microsomes from untreated, phenanthrene, phenobarbital and pregnenolone-16-carbonitrile-treated cod converted phenanthrene mainly, but to a varying extent, to the 9,10-dihydrodiol. Treatment with β-naphthoflavone (BNF), however, resulted in a large increase in the oxidation at the 1,2-position, along with a four- to seven-fold increase in specific activity. The major cytochrome P-450 isozyme purified from BNF-treated cod liver (P-450c) showed highest activity with phenanthrene (a turnover of 0.18 nmol/min per nmol P-450), but with about equal selectivity for the 1,2- and 9,10-region of the substrate in a reconstituted system with phospholipid and NADPH-cytochrome P-450 reductase. The low regioselectivity was also observed as a lack of regioselective inhibition of microsomal phenanthrene metabolism with antiserum to cod P-450c. Two of the minor isozymes, cod cytochromes P-450b and d, showed a similar turnover to P-450c, but with a stronger selectivity for the 1,2-position (55–60%). The results indicate that other control systems, in addition to the content of individual P-450-forms in the regulatory systems, in addition to the content of individual P-450-forms in the endoplasmic reticulum, are involved in the in vivo transformation of phenanthrene by cod to the 1,2-dihydrodiol metabolite.  相似文献

In order to elucidate the mechanism of the stimulative effect of molybdenum on mercury-mediated renal metallothionein induction, the levels of translatable metallothionein mRNA (MT mRNA) in the kidneys of rats treated with saline or Na2MoO4 or HgCl2 or Na2MoO4 and HgCl2 were measured by translation experiments in cell-free protein synthesizing systems. The time course of accumulation of mercury in renal nuclei of rats given HgCl2 with or without Na2MoO4-pretreatment was also investigated. Molybdenum, itself, did not elevate levels of MT mRNA compared to saline controls at all time points (0, 6 and 14 h after exposure to HgCl2) but rapidly elevated the levels of the mRNA more than Hg-dosed rats when HgCl2 was also administered. On the other hand, the time course study in renal nuclei showed that the mercury content of nuclei was consistently lower in Mo-Hg-dosed rats than in Hg-dosed rats at all time points (4, 8 and 24 h after exposure to HgCl2). These results suggest that the stimulative effect of molybdenum on mercury-mediated metallothionein induction is coupled with an increase of the mRNA coding for the low molecular weight protein and that such an increase in the levels of translatable MT mRNA is not due to the difference in uptake of mercury into renal nuclei.  相似文献

Effect of sodium butyrate on DNA synthesis and the induction of ornithine decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.17), a rate-limiting enzyme of polyamine biosynthesis, was studied in phytohemagglutinin(PHA)-stimulated bovine lymphocytes. Millimolar concentrations of butyrate completely inhibited the incorporation of [3H] thymidine into the acid-insoluble fraction and reversibly suppressed the induction of ornithine decarboxylase. Other shortchain fatty acids were much less active than butyrate. These results suggest that the suppression of ornithine decarboxylase activity may be one of the reasons for the inhibition of DNA synthesis with butyrate in bovine lymphocytes, because our previous experimental results have shown that the induction of ornithine decarboxylase closely correlates with the DNA synthesis in growth-stimulated cells.  相似文献

To investigate the modifying role of intestinal microflora in the metabolism of chemical carcinogens in vivo, we subjected bile from Fischer rats treated per os with chemical carcinogens and related compounds to a mutagenicity assay in the presence and absence of a cell-free extract from human feces. A mixture of the bile sample and potassium phosphate buffer was incubated in the presence or absence of human cell-free fecal extract and then further incubated with a bacterial suspension of Salmonella typhimurium tester strains TA98 or TA100. Bile from rats treated with 1-nitropyrene (1-NP) produced about 2700 and 400 revertants per plate in strain TA98 in the presence and absence of the fecal extract, respectively. There was a drug dose- and bile volume-related response. Treatment of 1-NP-bile with beta-glucuronidase, but not aryl sulfatase, enhanced its mutagenicity. Cell-free extracts of some strains of intestinal bacteria (Bacteroides fragilis ATCC 12044, B. vulgatus ATCC 8482, B. thetaiotaomicron ATCC 12290, Bacteroides sp. strain 524, Eubacterium eligens VPI C15-48, Peptostreptococcus sp. strain 204 and Escherichia coli A-5-18) also enhanced the mutagenicity of 1-NP-bile. These bacterial cell-free extracts hydrolyzed the synthetic beta-D-glucuronides of phenolphthalein and/or p-nitrophenol. These data indicate that the glucuronide(s) of 1-NP-metabolite(s) secreted into bile can be hydrolyzed in the intestine by bacterial beta-glucuronidases to potent mutagenic aglycone(s).  相似文献

The pattern of colonization of the Moreton Bay region in southeast Queensland, Australia, by the giant toad, Bufo marinus , is described. Estimates are made of the rates of colonization in this and other regions. The mean values obtained range from 2.5 km/year in the south to 15.1 km/year in the north. The analysis suggests that colonization has been discontinuous in many areas, probably as a result of occasional, long-distance transportation of toads by humans. The variation in colonization rate is related in a predictable way to variation in environmental factors such as temperature and topography. In areas where discontinuities are least likely, colonization rates are used to estimate rates of continuous dispersal. These are combined with estimates of population density, sex ratios and offspring number variance to obtain estimates of genetic neighbourhood size. These are much greater than estimates of the effective size of B. marinus populations determined from gene frequency variances. The reasons for and implications of this discrepancy are discussed.  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships within the iguanid lizard genus Liolaemus are investigated using 1710 aligned base positions (785 phylogenetically informative) of mitochondrial DNA sequences, representing coding regions for eight tRNAs, ND2, and portions of ND1 and COL Sixty new sequences ranging in length from 1736 to 1754 bases are compared with four previously reported sequences. Liolaemus species form two well-supported monophyletic groups of subgeneric status, Liolaemus and Eulaemus. These subgenera appear to have separated at least 12.6 million years ago based on the amount of molecular evolutionary divergence between them. Hypotheses that species occurring in the Andes, west of the Andes, and east of the Andes, each comprise distinct monophyletic groups are independently rejected statistically. The shortest estimate of phylogeny suggests mat Liolaemus originated either in the Andes or the eastern lowlands. Numerous evolutionary shifts have occurred between the Andes, and the eastern and western lowlands, suggesting recurring vicariance and dispersal. Species occurring at high elevations or high latitudes usually have viviparous reproduction. Depending on whether parity mode is considered reversible in Liolaemus , the most parsimonious reconstruction supports at least six independent origins of viviparity or at least three gains followed by three losses of viviparity among die 60 Liolaemus lineages examined.  相似文献

The Central American toad, Bufo marinus , has been extensively introduced throughout the Caribbean and Pacific regions and is now one of the most widespread of terrestrial vertebrates. Details, such as the sources and dates of introductions, the number of individuals introduced and the fates of the introduced populations have been documented and are described. The availability of this historical information makes the introductions of great potential value as a series of evolutionary experiments. They can be used to study the way in which allopatric populations diverge genetically and the effects of population bottlenecks of known size on the genetic characteristics of populations, and to examine theories of rapid speciation caused by genetic revolutions associated with founder events.  相似文献

Cat's differential duration threshold was investigated by the method of limits in a schedule of discrimination of empty durations. The standard stimulus was 4 sec long throughout the experiment. The comparison stimulus was reduced from 10 to 5 sec by 1 sec steps in successive blocks of 5 sessions. Standard and comparison stimuli, delimited by 50 msec auditory signals, were equiprobably distributed, in a random sequential order of presentation in each trial. After a 2 sec delay, an auditory signal indicated that reinforcement was available upon a response on one of two levers. Weber fractions around .25 were obtained. Strong response bias developed in most cats. Some consequences of the inhibition of responding induced by the procedure were considered.  相似文献

In order to clarify the taxonomy and the interrelationships among Asiatic cultivated rice, Oryza sativa , and its related wild species ( O. rufipogon, O. nivara and O . barthii ), 41 morphological characters were examined. Numerical taxonomic methods were used to analyse the data and to illustrate species relationships.
Distinctive differences among the materials studied suggest the retention of O. rufipogoon, O. nivara and O . sativa as three distinct species. The origin of O. sativa from O. nivara through domestication is discussed. An annual wild taxon from Australia, which had been classified as a form of O. nivara , is shown to be distinct from typical O. nivnra and is raised to specific rank. This species has been named O. meridionalis Ng.  相似文献

Two anthracenedione derivatives [1 - (ω - diethylaminopropylamido) - 4 - hydroxy - 9,10 - anthracenedione hydrochloride (I) and 1 - (ω - diethylamino-propylamido) - 2 - methoxy - 4 - hydroxy - 9,10 - anthracenedione hydrochloride (II)], having an electron-rich planar chromophore and an amino-substituted side chain, have been synthesized. Their binding ability to DNA was investigated by means of spectroscopic, equilibrium dialysis and fluorescence measurements. Their inhibition efficiency on nucleic acid synthesis was also evaluated both in mouse and human cells. Our results indicate that, in comparison with adriamycin, compound I shows a slightly weaker complexation ability to DNA, while compound II interacts with DNA at a substantially lower level. These data match quite well with the biological response on the inhibition of DNA and RNA synthesis exhibited by the above mentioned compounds; in fact compound I is slightly less efficient than adriamycin and about ten times more efficient than compound II. The close relationship between the results of physicochemical and biological studies is discussed.  相似文献
