Abstract The reproductive characteristics of three Rubus species ( R. palmatus Thunberg var. coptophyllus (A. Gray) O. Kuntze, R. microphyllus L.f., and R. crataegifolius Bunge) were critically investigated using materials collected from the forest floor of an 85-year-old Hinoki ( Chamaecyparis obtusa ) plantation in central Honshu, Japan. The underground branching patterns of these species were also investigated at the nursery. R. microphyllus produced the largest number of fruits in the same cane size among the three species (164 fruits per cane of 300 cm3 in D02H). However, the largest number of seeds produced per cane was in R. crataegifolius , where the maximum seed number attained 74,500 per cane, which was twice as many as those of the other two species. There was no apparent difference in dry matter allocation to fruits in these species. The three species produced numerous suckers by underground branching, forming large clones. In the open site at the nursery, the number of suckers produced by underground branching increased exponentially. On the other hand, in natural populations occurring in closed sites, the number of suckers produced by underground branching in the three species was by contrast much smaller. Three Rubus species proved to possess similar perennation as well as reproductive strategies, although R. palmatus var. coptophyllus shows much lower seed production and slower sucker production than the other two species.  相似文献

Abstract Four Japanese Trillium (Liliaceae) species which are representative perennial herbs of the temperate deciduous forests— Trillium kamtschaticum (2x), T. apetalon (4x), T. tschonoskii (4x) and T. smallii (6x)—were studied for their reproductive characteristics, e.g., patterns of reproductive resource allocation and reproductive output.
In spite of the differences in ploidy levels (from 2x to 6x), all four species showed very similar reproductive traits. It became evident that in response to the increase in reproductive allocation to total reproductive organs (RA), the number of seeds produced per plant (PN) clearly increased. This trend is well in accord with the relationship found in four North American species and also several temperate woodland perennial herbs which occur in closed, stable and predictable environments, and possess typical xenogamous breeding systems. Although there is no conspicuous trend between ploidy levels and PN, one of the significant differences noted in this study was in seed weight, which ranged from 2.93 mg in diploids, to 3.42–3.45 mg in tetraploids, and to 4.47 mg in hexaploids.  相似文献

Abstract The population struaures, spatial and temporal distributions of individual plants, and survivorship were investigated in four Japanese Trillium species (Liliaceae), T. kamtschaticum, T. tschonoskii, T. apetaion and T. smallii.
The stage class structures of these four species based on leaf area categories all showed similar depletion curves associated with an increase in stnge class. That is, there occurs a conspicuous decrease in early juvenile stages, subsequent leveling-off in the intermediate stages and a slight decrease again in the larger stages. The high mortality in juvenile stages was also confirmed by continuous observations in the permanent plots established on the forest floor for T. kamtschaticum and T. apetalon. Furthermore, the analysis of spatial distribution patterns for T. kamtschaticum and T. apetalon revealed successive distributional changes from under-dispersed (aggregated) to random or overdispersed with the progress of the growth stage.  相似文献

研究了不同生境条件下喜树和南方红豆杉混交群落中喜树和南方红豆杉的生活史型谱特征。结果表明,喜树和南方红豆杉在S生活史型得分和比例均为0。喜树和南方红豆杉生活史型V主成分得分均以山地2最高,而纯林的生活史型V主成分得分最低,C也表现为山地2最高,而纯林最低。喜树种群的生活史型比例按照从山地、坡地、平地、纯林排序,V型比例逐渐上升而C型比例逐渐下降的趋势,这就构成了混交群落中喜树种群的生活史型谱。南方红豆杉种群的生活史型谱特征,主要表现为山地2和坡地V型比例最小,而C型比例最大,纯林种植中V型比例较高,而以纯林1的V型比例最高,C型比例最小。  相似文献

根据 2 2个等位酶位点遗传变异 ,探讨了韩国境内委陵菜 (PotentillafragarioidesL .var.sprengeliana)的遗传多样性和种群结构。酶位点的多态位点百分比为 5 9 1%。种和种群水平上的遗传多样性比较高 ,分别为Hes=0 .2 10 ,Hep=0 .199;而种群的分化水平则相对较低 (GST=0 .0 74)。 19个种群中随机交配的偏差为FIS=0 .331。每代迁移数的间接估计 (Nm=3.15 )表明该种在韩国的种群间基因流较高。另外 ,固定指数分析显示在一些种群和位点有轻微的杂合子缺乏。种群间平均遗传一致度为 0 985。这些韩国委陵菜种群存在于较为均一的生境 ,这很有可能是造成其种群遗传一致性较高的原因。  相似文献

Absract Three pedicellate-declinate-flowered species of Trillium (Liliaceae), T. vaseyi and T. flexipes , were studied for their life history characteristics, e.g., stage class structures of natural populations and reproductive features, including energy allocation to reproductive activities. The populations structures of all three species showed similar depletion structures characterized by a conspicuous decrease of individuals in the small juvenile stages, as was also observed in pedicellate-erect-flowered Trillium species However, with respect to reproductive characteristics, these three declinate-flowered species showed different features from erect-flowered species, although they belong to the same pedicellate-flowered group. That is, these declinate-flowered Trillium species exhibited low seed setting rates of 30% in T. catesbaei , 45% in T. vaseyi and 34% in T. flexipes , suggesting that they possess different mating systems from erect-flowered species which showed high seed setting rates of 50–90%.  相似文献

The species composition and the spatial distribution of the nematode fauna of Piburger See is discussed briefly. The study then concentrates on the three species (Tobrilus gracilis, Monhystera stagnalis, Ethmolaimus pratensis) which form the lake's profundal nematode fauna between depths of roughly 8 and 13 meters. This profundal fauna is separated by a distinct metalimnetic abundance minimum from the very diverse littoral community. In addition to taxonomic and ecological considerations, the zonation of the three species within their main habitat is described, and life cycles cohort production as well as annual production are evaluated from the field data. Total annual nematode production within the profundal habitat (8–13 m) in Piburger See amounts to 11.6 kg per hectare. 65 % of which are contributed by T. gracilis, 22 % by M. stagnalis and 13 % by E. pratensis. For the whole area under observation (6 to 13.5 m, including the scarcely populated border zones) mean annual nematode production is 7 kg per hectare.  相似文献

Abstract Life history characteristics, e.g., stage class structures of natural populations and associated reproductive characteristics, were studied for six sessile-flowered, diploid Trillium (Liliaceae) species that are restricted to the Coastal Plain region of the southeastern United States.
These sessile-flowered species reproduce primarily by vegetative propagation. Leaf area measurements were used to categorize stage class distributions of natural populations. Populations propagating mainly by vegetative reproduction had non-sigmoidal, convex-shaped population structures with most plants being in the intermediate stage classes. Low numbers of individuals in smaller stage classes and an abundance of intermediate sized individuals are due to the fact that vegetative propagules are the primary method for maintenance of local populations.
Characteristics associated with sexual reproduction were also examined. Seed output averaged about 20 seeds per plant, except for T. lancifolium which produced 9.7 seeds on the average. Seed setting rates varied between 15.61–44.15% and mean seed weight varied from 4.89 to 10.75 mg. The dominance of vegetative versus sexual reproduction may be due to the fact that all six species occur in ecologically unstable flood plain habitats.  相似文献

Three new acanthoecidaean species collected from the coastal waters of Taiwan and Japan are described: Acanthocorbis camarensis n. sp. resembles Acanthocorbis unguiculata in lorica morphology, but differs in having regularly arranged longitudinal and transverse costae at the anterior lorica chamber, and in lacking a nail at the apical end of anterior spine; Diaphanoeca spiralifurca n. sp. is characterized by the spiral arrangement of the costal strips in the posterior half of the lorica chamber and is closely related to Diaphanoeca grandis; Stephanoeca supracostata n. sp. is closely related to Stephanoeca elegans, but differs in having an additional transverse costa at the anterior lorica chamber.  相似文献

The combined effects of different levels of temperature (15°, 25° and 35°C) and food Chlorella (1,2 and 4 × 106 cells/ml) on the life history parameters (lifespan, life expectancy, net reproductive rate, intrinsic rate of increase, developmental time, and generation time) of a laboratory population of the rotifer Brachionus patulus were investigated. Both food and temperature, independently and in interaction, significantly influenced nearly all the parameters. The reproductive performance was a direct function of the food level, but the magnitude of food effect was temperature-dependent. The observed temperature × food interaction effects are explained in terms of the energetics of resource apportionment between metabolism and reproduction.  相似文献

To understand the biological significance of the southern hogchoker's seasonal migration pattern, the effects of salinity (0, 7 and 15 ppt) on survival, growth, metabolism, and behavior were examined. Survival averaged 96% and salinity did not affect (p = 0.25) the growth rates of juvenile hogchokers during the 60 day experimental growth period. However, oxygen consumption rates suggest that juvenile metabolism is influenced by salinity. Circadian patterns of metabolic rates were present in the 7 and 15 ppt treatments, but absent in the freshwater group. The juveniles in the 7 ppt treatment exhibited significantly (p < 0.05) lower overall rates than the freshwater fish, while the fish in the 15 ppt condition had intermediate metabolic rates. Juvenile hogchokers also showed shifts in diel activity and feeding patterns among salinities, with the active time period shortening with increasing salinity. The main conclusion is that juvenile salinity intolerance is not the driving mechanism of their migration pattern, but salinity does affect juvenile metabolism and behavior. The metabolic effects of salinity can explain summer migration in juvenile hogchokers. Additionally, the shifts in their behavioral responses can generally be explained by the summer migration movements.  相似文献

The life history and photoperiodic responses of the carrageenophyte Chondrus giganteus forma flabellatus (Rhodophyta) from Japan were investigated in culture. This entity has a Polysiphonia-type life history and the formation of both tetrasporangia and cystocarps is controlled by daylength. A night-break of 1 h in the middle of a 16 h night was effective in inhibiting reproduction, confirming the classical photoperiodic nature of the response. Tetrasporangia formed at daylengths of 12 h or less, whereas cystocarps only developed at daylengths of 10 h or less. The formation of spermatangia required daylengths of 12 h or less, but production was not inhibited by a night-break of 1 h in the middle of a 16 h night.  相似文献

Reproduction, development and morphological variation of the marine green algaCaulerpa racemosa var.peltata from the southern part of Japan were studied in culture in the laboratory. Anisogamous biflagellate male and female gametes were produced monoeciously and copulated with each other. Settled zygotes became spherical and increased in volume. After five weeks, they formed two germ tubes which extended in opposite directions. Both germ tubes became elongated and branched, resulting in the formation of creeping, filamentous, protonema-like plants. These plants formed primary shoots which differentiated into creeping rhizomes and upright axes. Each upright axis successively formed ramuli and developed into an assimilator. The morphology of assimilators, i.e., shape and arrangement of ramuli, varied with culture coditions. The effects of temperature and light intensity on the formation of assimilators were investigated with 25 combinations of 5 temperatures (20.0–30.0C) and 5 light intensities (0.5–8.0 klux). The morphological plasticity of this alga is identical to that ofCaulerpa racemosa var.laetevirens, which was previously described by the present authors. Thus, apparently, the plasticity of this taxon is correlated with environmental factors. It appears, moreover, thatC. racemosa var.peltata andC. racemosa var.laetevirens are ecophenes (ecads) of a single species.  相似文献

The gross morphology and anatomy of leaves in a facultative rheophyte,Farfugium japonicum var.luchuense, were examined in order to clarify how the two characters are correlated with one another and how the facultative rheophyte differs from obligate rheophytes in leaf morphology and anatomy. Most rheophytes of the variety have narrowly cuneate leaf base, while most inland plants usually have truncate to cordate one, although the habitat-morphology correlation is not so clear. The leaf shape or the divergence angle of leaf base is strongly correlated with the number of primary veins and intervein-distance dependent on the number of cells intervening between veins. This makes a marked contrast to many reported cases of obligate rheophytes in which the leaf shape is strongly correlated with cell size. There is a rough tendency that narrower leaves of rheophytes have a thicker cuticular layer. However, the cell size and the volume (area) of intercellular space differ only slightly with the leaf shape.  相似文献
