Seasonal dynamics of invertebrate drift in a Hong Kong stream   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Drift samples were taken with paired nets on 19 occasions over a 12-month period in Tai Po Kau Forest Stream (TPKFS), Hong Kong. Mean drift density (±1 S.E.) was 277·9 ± 25·0 individuals 100 m-3; peaks in density were apparent during autumn and spring. One hundred and two taxa were recovered from the drift, and the total number of taxa drifting was positively related to water temperatures. Over 99% of the aquatic animals collected in drift samples were insects, 10 taxa of which constituted 67·3% of the entire catch. Baetid mayflies dominated the composition of the drift, comprising 40·4% of individuals caught.
Seasonal changes in the drift of individual taxa were evident, reflecting significant relationships between drift densities and water temperature: Simulium T1 (Diptera). Anisocentropus maculatus (Trichoptera) and Amphinemura chui (Plecoptera) drifted most in winter, whereas Chimarra T1, Polymorphanisus astictus (Trichoptera), Helodes #1 and cf. Rhantus sp. (Coleoptera) were most numerous in summer. Drifting mayflies showed spring ( Indobaetis sp., Cinygmina T1, Serratella T2), autumn ( Baetiella sp., Pseudocloeon T2), or spring and autumn ( Baetis nr pseudofrequentus ) peaks which were not clearly related to water temperature. In only two cases ( A. maculatus and P. astictus ) was TPKFS drift seasonality associated with life-cycle events. Overall, there was no evidence of community-level trends in the periodicity of stream drift in this seasonal tropical habitat.  相似文献

SUMMARY. The Cow Green dam was completed in the summer of 1970 and invertebrate drift was sampled below the dam and in an adjacent tributary, Maize Beck, on thirty-one occasions between July 1970 and September 1973. Drift was sampled by pumping river water through a filter. The intake was placed in Maize Beck for the first sample and in the Tees for the second, and so on alternately for the rest of the sampling period. Nets were used on ten occasions, nine of these in winter months and once when the pump broke down. A total of ninety-five taxa were recognized, of which eighty-six occurred in Maize Beck and seventy-one in the Tees. The Tees fauna was dominated numerically and in terms of biomass by a large population of micro-crustaceans originating in the reservoir. Hydra and Naididae also formed a large proportion of the Tees drift but contributed little to the biomass. Ephemeroptera were most abundant in Maize Beck samples. Diptera were abundant in drift catches in both streams with simuliid larvae most numerous in Maize Beck and chironomid larvae most numerous in the Tees. The greatest drift densities of the benthic fauna were observed between April and October; the mean number of organisms per 10 m3 were seventy-three in Maize Beck and 144 in the Tees. The mean densities in winter were very low, respectively two and seventeen per 10 m3 in the two rivers. There was no significant difference between the mean levels of the total bottom fauna (numbers and biomass) in the drift in the two rivers during the period April-October, but vrtnter biomass was significantly greater in the Tees. In July 1970 micro-crustaceans represented 29% (14 per 10 m3) of total drift numbers and 3% (0.7 mg wet-weight per 10 m3) of the biomass, whereas in 1973 they represented 99% of both the numbers (37 670 per 10 m3) and weight (2.2 g wet-weight per 10 m3). The relation between benthos and drift was examined. In the drift Plecoptera and Baetidae were more abundant in Maize Beck than in the Tees. Only Chironomidae and Nais spp. were more abundant in the Tees, In the benthos the density of Plecoptera and Baetidae was not significantly different in the two rivers, but all other groups with the exception of Simuliidae occurred at greater densities in the Tees. The proportion of baetids present in the drift was greatest in Maize Beck. No such difference was demonstrated for total fauna. Diel rhythms were observed in baetids and simuhids with densities greater in night catches. Nocturnal peaks of these organisms were less pronounced in the Tees. Chironomid larvae showed no diel changes in abundance. Significant diel changes in the mean weights of individual animals were not detected in baetid nymphs or chironomids. Micro-crustaceans showed no nocturnal peaks of abundance. Preliminary observations on the quality and quantity of seston caught in drift samples between April and October showed great differences between the rivers. In the Tees the bulk ofeach sample consisted of algal filaments derived from the river and micro-crustaceans from the reservoir. In Maize Beck algae were un-common and the sample was composed of peat and mineral particles. Data are presented on seston output at different discharges.  相似文献

A survey was carried out to establish the nature and composition of the benthos along the Naro Moru, a tropical river in central Kenya using artificial substrate baskets, from November 1986 to October 1987. A clear longitudinal zonation existed for Diptera and Ephemeroptera which were the major benthic taxa. Maximum colonization took place after ten days of exposure. Seasonal variations in abundance were also observed. All taxa collected from the bottom samples were also collected in the drift samples, but the percentage composition of the benthos showed variations with that of the drift. Simulium sp. dominated the benthos whilst Baetis spp. dominated the drift. There was a positive correlation between drift rate and benthic fauna density.  相似文献

Aiming to establish the most frequent invertebrate taxa in drift at the small spatial scale within a moss-rich karst tufa-precipitating hydrosystem, we sampled drift among microhabitats differing in substratum type and flow conditions along a tufa barrier-cascading lotic reach. Additionally, we addressed the question of the contribution and the potential significance of meiofauna within the overall invertebrate drift at the small spatial scale. During the study period, a total of 60 invertebrate taxa were recorded in the drift. Six of these taxa belonged to the annelid/arthropod meiofauna and they represented 35% of total drift density. Macroinvertebrates found in drift were represented mainly by larval insects. The composition of the most abundant taxa in total drift was as follows: Alona spp. (Cladocera 26.7%), Riolus spp. (Coleoptera: Elmidae 13.2%), Simulium spp. (Diptera: Simuliidae 12.2%), Enchytraeidae (Oligochaeta 10.4%), Hydrachnidia (6.3%), Orthocladinae (Diptera: Chironomidae 3.9%) and Naididae (Oligochaeta 3.6%). Faunal drift densities and amounts of transported particulate matter (PM) were highest at the fast-flowing sites located at the barriers and lowest at the slow-flowing sites within pools. Similarly to the seasonal amounts of transported PM, faunal drift was lowest in winter, and peaked in autumn and in late spring/early summer. Correlation between flow velocity and PM-faunal drift densities suggested a significant effect of the dislodged PM, though a minor influence of discharge and flow velocity on faunal drift. We suggest that the small-scale habitat heterogeneity and the respective feeding and refugial strategies of the fauna, as well as faunal passive dislodgement initiated by the shear forces of the flow were the most important drivers of observed drift patterns.  相似文献

比较了广东横石水河流域二条相邻的3级溪流大型底栖动物的漂流种类组成及昼夜节律,其中一条溪流受广东大宝山矿外排的酸性矿山废水严重污染,水体pH值仅为3.45且重金属严重超标,而另一条为相邻的清洁溪流.结果表明:清洁溪流中大型底栖动物的数量和种类远比受酸性矿山废水污染的溪流丰富.在清洁溪流中共采获漂流底栖动物6 871头,隶属10目52类群,其中水生昆虫的数量和种类占绝对优势 (99.5%).但总漂流密度占优势的类群(相对多度超过5%)不多,主要集中在以下几种水生昆虫:七鳃假二翅蜉 (28.5%)、宜兴似动蜉 (13.8%)、短脉纹石蛾(13.2%)、白背锯形蜉(7.5%)、摇蚊科(6.5%) 和肖扁泥甲(5.0%).蜉蝣目种类和数量最多,占全部漂流底栖动物总个体数的65%,其中又以四节蜉科居多,占蜉蝣目总个体数的63%.毛翅目昆虫的数量(18%)仅次于蜉蝣目.大型底栖动物的漂流表现出明显的昼夜节律,漂流主要在夜间进行,未发现有日漂者.漂流密度高峰出现在21:00和2:00,漂流密度分别为(70.3±10.8)和(289.0±124.6) 头·100 m-3.大多数优势种类漂流高峰出现的时段略有不同,但有些优势种类(如摇蚊科和肖扁泥甲)并未表现出明显的漂流昼夜差异.在受酸性矿山废水污染的溪流中,漂流动物只有1种嗜酸性的多足摇蚊,其漂流活动也在夜间进行,并有3个明显的漂流高峰,分别出现在19:00、0:00和4:00,最高漂流密度仅为(6.7±5.2)头·100m-3.说明酸性矿山废水不仅降低了溪流中漂流底栖动物的物种多样性和数量,也改变了其漂流模式.  相似文献

Distribution and composition of the epilithic macroinvertebrate fauna was studied on 21 different sites situated in the surf zone of Lake Esrom. A relative degree-of-exposure (windinduced wave activity) was calculated for each station from the specific number of wind days, wind velocity and a measured wind fetch. Macroinvertebrate abundance averaged 20 200 ind. m–2 stone bottom, and was composed primarily of six taxa (70% of the mean densities). The distribution patterns of the 48 most common taxa were compared to exposure, the amount of filamentous algae and shore slope, by regression, cluster analysis and ordination analysis (PCA and RDA). The abundance of 25 taxa was significantly correlated to the amount of filamentous algae, and a protectional effect of algae growth was suggested for the exposed sites. Seventeen taxa showed significant difference in abundance between sheltered western stations and exposed eastern stations. Stations with a gentle slope were characterised by sand covered stones and a fauna that qualitatively was similar to the fauna at greater depth in the littoral. Redundancy analysis (RDA) showed filamentous algae and slope to be the most important factors controlling the species distribution, whereas the gradient of exposure in Lake Esrom was too short to explain the species tolerance range.  相似文献

An extensive series of drift collections from a Rocky Mountain stream was used to investigate quantitative patterns in the taxonomic composition of drift throughout spring, summer and fall for 1975–1978. Drift was estimated by drift rate, the number of organisms drifting past a point per 24 h; and by drift density, the numbers of organisms collected per 100 m3 of water sampled.Drift densities were up to ten times greater by night than by day, and 24 h drift densities for the total fauna approached 2000 per 100 m3 in June–July, declining to <500 by autumn. Ephemeroptera, and especially Baetis, dominated the drift. Drift rates were greatest in late spring, around 106 per 24 h, which are among the highest values reported for small trout streams. Drift rates declined to <105 during the summer, and shifts in the taxonomic composition are described.Multiple regression analysis of the relationship between drift rate and density, and the independent variables discharge, benthic density and temperature, showed that discharge typically was a significant predictor of 24 h drift rate, usually the best single predictor. In contrast, 24 h drift density most frequently was independent of discharge, indicating that this measure tends to correct for seasonal variation in discharge, as suggested in the literature. However, this was not invariably true. Drift density significantly correlated with benthic density in five of eight taxa inspected, thus seasonal declines in the benthos probably accounted for parallel declines in drift density.  相似文献

1. The patterns of colonization of littoral benthos onto hard substrata on an exposed and a sheltered shore of Lake Purrumbete in Victoria, Australia, and the riffles of its outflow stream (Curdies River) were examined experimentally in winter and summer. The common taxa in the lake (gastropods, amphipods, isopods, planarians, ostracods) also occurred in the stream, although they were not abundant. The stream fauna was dominated by insects. 2. Defaunated half-bricks were sampled at each of three sites at the three different locations (exposed shore, sheltered shore, stream) in winter and summer at weekly or biweekly intervals, with natural stones also being sampled during the colonization period. Colonization patterns of individual taxa which occurred in both the lake and stream, and stream-only taxa, were compared using ANOVA, and the changes in the assemblage through time and between locations were analysed with non-metric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) and analysis of similarities (ANOSIM). 3. Colonization in the lake was very rapid, with species richness and assemblage composition on bricks after just one day matching that of natural stones. Colonization in the stream was slower, the assemblage composition not matching natural stones after 42 days in winter but being comparable after 28 days in summer. There was considerable species turnover during colonization in the stream, but little turnover in the lake, with most common taxa back after one day. There was little difference between the two lake shores in colonization patterns. 4. Taxa that occurred in both lake and stream showed broadly similar patterns of colonization, with early occupancy at high densities. In contrast, stream insects showed a variety of colonization strategies. 5. These results indicate that rates and patterns of colonization on to hard substrata are quite different in Lake Purrumbete compared with its outflowing stream. The rapid colonization in this lake indicates great mobility for much of the fauna on hard substrata, possibly by swimming, benthic crawling or passive drift (even attached to floating vegetation). This may be an appropriate strategy in lake littoral zones where the amount of inhabitable hard substrata and accompanying food resources may be limited.  相似文献

1. Invertebrate stream drift was sampled bimonthly in the Acheron River, Victoria, Australia, over a period of 18 months. Replicated hourly samples were collected over a 25-h period on each sampling date. A total of 194 taxa were identified in the drift. However, total drift density was dominated by few taxa. 2. Some evidence was obtained for a seasonal pattern in drift: this was most pronounced in relative abundances of individual taxa and the composition of the drift, rather than in total drift densities. Most of the commonly collected taxa reflected the seasonal pattern of total drift. However, some of the common taxa did not. 3. A small number of taxa showed behavioral drift, with a nocturnal increase in drift densities. One species of ‘Baetis’ drifted in high densities over short periods of time around dusk and dawn. It did not drift in higher densities during the night than during the day. The results emphasize the need for drift studies to be more rigorously designed than is typically the case.  相似文献

SUMMARY. 1. The contribution of drift to macroinvertebrate colonization was studied over 10 days using pairs of substratum-filled trays, one suspended above the streambed (and thus able to be colonized by drift only) and one buried flush with the streambed (and thus open to colonization from all directions). Trays were filled with sand, gravel or stones.
2. Colonization of sand-filled trays was rapid, being completed within 24h (i.e. no subsequent change in numbers of individuals per tray); colonization of gravel or stone-filled trays was not completed by the end of the experiment.
3. Drift contributed an average of 86% of the colonizing fauna of the sand-filled trays, 36% of the fauna of the gravel-filled trays and 25% of the fauna of the stone-filled trays. The low contribution of the drift to the gravel and stones is at odds with some studies which, using similar techniques, suggest that drift is the primary source of colonizing individuals.
4. Most individual species showed low contributions by drift to colonization, with the majority having contributions under 66%.
5. Distinct differences were noted between the fauna colonizing the sand-filled trays and those colonizing the gravel or stone-filled trays (which were similar).
6. Several species common in the drift were rare in the colonizing fauna and several species which were common colonizers were absent or rare in the drift.  相似文献

Using a large experimental channel, five artificial high flows with different flow regimes were launched to reveal the precise temporal sequences of drifting particulate matter and organisms during the high flows. Drifting fine particulate matter and organisms were collected by sampling bottles and a water pump, respectively. The peaks of drift abundance occurred before the peak discharges, and the abundance declined quickly within several minutes during the rising phase of high flows. The major determinant of drift abundance of particulate matter and organisms was periods of stable conditions before each high flow (tested by determination coefficients in a correlation analysis). The drift of macroscopic plant material also accelerated the drifts of epiphytic fauna and infauna, which drifted with plants and bed sediments. The magnitude (discharge and duration of peak flows) of high flows only slightly affected drift abundance. The fauna more resistant to high flows were invertebrates that fasten their cases or retreats by silk threads on the substrata. Invertebrate taxa having sucking apparatus or high swimming activity were also resistant to high flows.  相似文献

SUMMARY. Plastic cages containing artificial substrata were placed on the stony bottom of a stream in a section where the environmental conditions appeared to be homogeneous. The section was divided into eight equal sub-sections (A-H) and four cages were placed in each sub-section. The stone-size of the artificial substrata was similar within each cage but differed between the four cages with average diameters of 14, 24, 48 and 96 mm, respectively. The baskets were removed one month later and the catches of macro-invertebrates were recorded.
Analysis of the catches (density and number of taxa in each cage) revealed no significant differences in connection with the position of the cages in the section of stream. Cages with 48-mm stones contained the least abundant fauna. The taxa which colonized cages with 14- or 24-mrn stones were more numerous than those collected from cages with 48- or 96-mm stones.
Statistical analysis by laxon confirmed the preceding results. Variability in connection with the position of the cages along the section of stream was never significant. A little more than half the taxa were distributed independently of stone size but always showed a contagious type distribution. The density of the other taxa was higher, either in cages with 14- or 24-mm stones (particularly Gammarus ) or only in cages with 96-mm stones (especially Hydropsyche ). Only one taxon was more abundant in cages with 48-mm stones, the type of substratum in which the overall density was lowest.
Catches in the cages were not the same as those taken with a Surber sampler because the two samplers did not take samples from the same habitats and also because the baskets offered a more specialized habitat than the surrounding bottom. The basket with 24-mm stones gave the least distorted picture of the natural population.  相似文献

Abstract There have been few comparative studies of the fauna in the two major types of freshwater systems, lakes and streams, in the one locality. This study compared the faunal assemblages at two times of the year (summer and winter) on stones in three locations: the littoral zone of two shores in Lake Purrumbete (one wave-exposed and one sheltered) and riffles in the Curdies River, which flows out of the lake. The lake fauna was dominated by crustaceans, gastropods and planarians, whereas the stream fauna was dominated by insects. The most abundant lake taxa were also present, but much less abundant, in the stream. The total number of species and individuals and densities of some common species varied between the three locations and between seasons. However, no consistent pattern reflecting a difference between the two lake shores was evident. Interpretation of MDS ordinations of the lake fauna was dependent on the data standardizations applied, with increased separation of the season-location combinations when species were standardized to equal total abundances; the seasonal difference was always greatest for the exposed (cliff) shore. In contrast, MDS on the stream fauna showed seasonal differences under all standardizations. This was consistent with the high seasonal turnover of species in the stream compared with the lake. These results demonstrate that, even within a local area with similar geology and connected water bodies, lake and stream fauna from the same substratum (stones) can be markedly different. Taxa that occurred in both were more abundant in the lake, whereas seasonal differences in abundance were much greater in the stream.  相似文献

We present a list of zooplankton taxa occurring in the Barents Sea based on our analysis of 360 samples from the upper 100 m of the water column as well as on reports from published sources. Moreover, we provide information on adult size, ecological and geographical distribution, habitat preference and frequency of occurrence of each taxon. The list encompasses a total of 374 species and higher taxa. Most are mesozooplankton, with Copepoda prevailing (153 species), and belong to the holoplankton. However, pseudoplankton, organisms only circumstantially occurring in the water column, also comprise a significant part of the fauna (86 taxa). The coastal zooplankton (264 neritic species) was richer than the fauna of the open sea. In our samples, the majority of the zooplankton taxa were rarely found (94 of 157 taxa, equivalent of 60%), 46 taxa (29%) were moderate and only 17 taxa (11%) were common (found in >80% of the samples). Among these, the copepods Calanus finmarchicus, C. glacialis, Oithona similis and Pseudocalanus minutus were most frequent.  相似文献

Effects of headwater impoundment and channelization on invertebrate drift   总被引:2,自引:2,他引:0  
The construction of a flood control impoundment on Twitty's Creek added large numbers of organisms of limnetic origin to the stream ecosystem. However, the number of limnetic organisms per unit volume of water decreased rapidly as the distance downstream from the reservoir increased and, during most sampling periods, made up an insignificant portion of the total drift biomass at 7.2 km downstream. Factors favoring the extended downstream drift of limnetic organisms were high stream discharge and low water temperature.Several taxa of benthic organisms had much lower drift rates in the station immediately below the dam than at other stations and several taxa commonly taken at other stations were not captured immediately below the reservoir outfall. One possible explanation is that these organisms may have longer drift recruitment distances than the distance from the reservoir outfall to the sample location.A comparison of drift densities of organisms of benthic origin and benthic standing crop densities in channeled and unchanneled streams revealed that drift densities were higher in channeled streams than in unchanneled streams for most taxa of invertebrates. In addition, channeled streams appeared to have lower benthic standing crops than unchanneled streams for most taxa of invertebrates.In stream sections impacted by either channelization or the Twitty Lake outfall, the energy dynamics of the stream ecosystems were altered by increased density of drifting invertebrates. From the standpoint of increasing food availability to the fish fauna of the stream, these changes would appear to benefit drift feeding species and negatively impact bottom feeding species.  相似文献

The development of an invertebrate community in a large scale, experimental stream system is described. Colonisation was chiefly by means of ovipositing adult insects with lesser components introduced with water and stones. A succession of taxa was recorded with large peaks of numbers in the spring and the autumn, comparable to those observed in studies on natural streams. Diversity of the fauna increased quickly at first and then more slowly, possibly because of the reduced availability of ovipositing adults later in the year. Even in the absence of drift and migration, recruitment of insect larvae, which naturally favour gravel substrata in running water, can be rapid and will produce a varied community in which Chironomidae and Ephemeroptera play an important role.  相似文献

为了考察松嫩平原黑土耕作区中小型土壤动物时空分布特征,在松嫩平原东南至西北选取5个典型区域,于2009年5、8、10月进行调查研究,共获取土壤动物15058只,分别隶属于54个类群,其中甲螨亚目、前气门亚目和节跳虫科3类为优势类群,占总数的69.94%,常见类群为8类,占总数的25.20%。分析结果表明:(1)不同采样区域土壤动物差异明显(P0.01),海伦区域样地的土壤动物密度、多样性指数、均匀性指数、优势度指数最高。绥化地区土壤动物类群与丰富度指数最高。(2)月份变化对土壤动物群落结构影响明显,土壤动物多样性特征随着月份变化起伏较大,8月份的土壤动物特征显著区别其它取样月份。(3)垂直分布上,土壤动物的个体数和类群数总体上是随土壤随着深度增加而减少,但不同采样区域土不同采样月份土壤动物垂直分布规律有一定差异。(4)从土壤动物与土壤环境关系来看,土壤环境的p H、全氮与全磷与土壤动物群落结构显著相关(P0.05),土壤动物个数、均匀性指数、丰富度指数、密度与土壤理化性质关系显著相关(P0.05),土壤动物优势类群和常见类群的数量与土壤中全磷、碳氮比、总有机碳关系较为密切。  相似文献

SUMMARY 1. Microform bed clusters are bedform microunits in streams. They consist of an obstacle clast (a large surface stone) against which other stones are stacked in a specific manner. Stream ecologists have suggested that these clusters are better flood refugia and more valuable habitats for invertebrates than single surface stones because of their higher stability during high‐flow events and their greater diversity of microhabitats available for colonisation. 2. To test these predictions in the Schmiedlaine, a flood‐prone prealpine stream, we sampled invertebrates on clustered and single stones on a total of seven occasions including before and after a moderate spate, two major floods and a minor spate. We also monitored surface particle stability during the second major flood and the minor spate. 3. Before the second flood (return period 1–2 years), we determined the exact positions of 60 clusters (60 obstacle clasts with 136 associated smaller particles) and 50 single stones in a 250‐m reach. We sampled the fauna on stones in the clusters, on well‐embedded single stones, and on loose single stones. Only six obstacle clasts and one single stone remained after the flood, implying movement of almost the entire surface layer. Therefore, we sampled the invertebrates on stones in newly formed clusters, on well‐embedded and single loose stones 3 and 11 days after the flood. The minor spate, in contrast to the second flood, moved only one of 495 monitored surface particles. 4. Three days after the flood, invertebrate density on clustered stones and both single stone categories were similar and equalled 34% of the mean pre‐flood density. Eight days later, density had almost doubled. The relatively high survival and rapid recovery suggest that invertebrates found refugia during the flood. However, the very low stability of clusters and single stones implied that surface particles were unimportant as refugia. 5. Total invertebrate density and taxon richness were never higher on clustered than on single stones (regardless of the timing of sampling relative to the last previous high‐flow event). Densities of the seven most common taxa and invertebrate community structure were also generally similar between particle types. We conclude that microform bed clusters cannot be regarded as more valuable invertebrate habitats than single surface stones in the Schmiedlaine.  相似文献

Simultaneous hourly net collections in a meadow and canyon reach of a mountain stream determined diel and spatial abundances of drifting Chironomidae larvae. Sixty-one taxa were identified to the lowest practical level, 52 in the meadow and 41 in the canyon. Orthocladiinae was the most abundant subfamily with 32 taxa and a 24 h mean density of 294 individuals 100 m−3 (meadow) and 26 taxa and a mean of 648 individuals 100 m−3 (canyon). Chironominae was the second most abundant subfamily. Nonchironomid invertebrates at both sites and total Chironomidae larvae (meadow) were predominantly night-drifting. Parakiefferiella and Psectrocladius were day-drifting (meadow) whereas 8 other chironomid taxa (meadow) and 2 taxa (canyon) were night-drifting. All others were aperiodic or too rare to test periodicity, Stempellinella cf brevis Edwards exhibited catastrophic drift in the canyon only. The different drift patterns between sites is attributed to greater loss of streambed habitat in the canyon compared to the meadow as streamflow decreased. Consequent crowding of chironomid larvae in the canyon caused catastrophic drift or interfered with drift periodicty. This study adds to knowledge of Chironomidae drift and shows influences on drift of hydrologic and geomorphic conditions.  相似文献

A 4.5 km section of the River Dan in northern Israel was sampled at intervals of 6 weeks, between April 1983–March 1984, using standardized mesh bags. The river is characterized by extremely stable temperature and other physical and chemical conditions. The effects of a water diversion project 2400 m from the spring were investigated.The relationships between fauna and depth, current velocity and distance from the spring sources were evaluated. Of 48 common taxa analyzed, 27 showed relativity to the distance from the sources, 18 to current velocity and 12 to depth. The lowest density of invertebrates, but the highest number of taxa and highest variety of species were found at the spring sources. The sampling site immediately downstream from the water diversion project was characterized by intermediate densities, lowest varieties of species and highest evenness of distribution.Results are compared with the predictions of the Intermediate Disturbance Hypothesis; but the influence of invertebrate drift caused this hypothesis to be inapplicable to lotic waters. Invertebrate drift is in addition suggested as an important factor governing the structure of the fauna at the spring sources.  相似文献
