Despite considerable data generated on livestock trypanosomoses in tsetse-infested areas, little attention was paid for animal African trypanosomosis (AAT) in sleeping sickness foci. This study aimed to fill this gap by determining the diversity and prevalence of trypanosome species in animals from three Chadian human African trypanosomosis (HAT) foci. Blood samples were collected from 443 goats, 339 sheep, 228 dogs and 98 pigs of the Mandoul, Maro and Moissala HAT foci in the south of Chad. Capillary tube centrifugation (CTC) and specific primers were used to search trypanosomes. The prevalence of trypanosome infections was 6.3% for CTC and 22.7% for PCR. Trypanosomes of the sub-genus Trypanozoon had the highest prevalence (16.6%) while T. congolense savannah (1.9%) was least prevalent. Significant differences were recorded between the prevalence of trypanosome species (χ2 = 8.34; p = 0.04) and HAT foci (χ2 = 24.86; p ≤0.0001). Maro had the highest prevalence (32.7%) and Mandoul the lowest (17.4%). Significant differences were also recorded for T. congolense forest (χ2 = 45.106; p < 0.0001) and all T. congolense2 = 34.992; p < 0.0001). Goats had the highest prevalence (26.9%) and sheep the lowest one (18.6%). Between animals, significant differences were recorded for trypanosomes of the sub-genus Trypanozoon2 = 9.443; p = 0.024), T. congolense forest (χ2 = 10.476; p = 0.015) and all T. congolense2 = 12.152; p = 0.007). Of the 251 animals carrying trypanosome infections, 88.8% had single infections while 11.2% had more than one trypanosome species. The overall prevalence of single and mixed trypanosome infections were respectively 20.1% and 2.6% in animal taxa of all foci. This study highlighted a diversity of trypanosomes in animal taxa of all HAT foci. It showed that AAT constitutes a threat for animal health and animal breeding in Chadian HAT foci. In these tsetse infested areas, reaching the elimination of AAT requires the designing and the implementation of control measures against trypanosome infections.  相似文献

Several studies have investigated the correlation between central obesity and inflammatory cytokines and the anti-inflammatory cytokine adiponectin. But, the correlation between central obesity and the anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4, IL-5 has not been studied yet. Thus, we aimed to study the IL-4 and IL-5 correlation to central obesity in adolescent Egyptian girls among proinflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokines. The study was carried out on 86 obese adolescent girls (BMI > 95 percentile) divided into two groups according to central obesity. The group I with waist to hip ratio <0.8 as a control and group II with waist to hip ratio >0.8 (central obesity). There was a significant increase in TNF-alpha (p < 0.0001), and IL-1β (p < 0.0001), as proinflammatory cytokines in group II, as compared to their corresponding group I. Group II showed a significant increase in the anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4 and IL-5 than group I at (p < 0.0001) and (p < 0.0005) respectively. In addition there was a significant decrease in the anti-inflammatory adiponectin and an increase in the inflammatory leptin levels in group II at (p < 0.0001) and (p < 0.0001) respectively in comparison to group I. A high positive correlation has been observed between waist to hip ratio, leptin, TNF-α, IL-1-β, IL-4 and IL-5 at (r = 0.331, p < 0.03), (r = 0.559, p < 0.001), (r = 0.435, p < 0.004), (r = 0.509, p < 0.001), (r = 0.550, p < 0.0015), in group II respectively and a high negative one with adiponectin at (r = ?0.410, p < 0.0001). We concluded that central obesity lowers adiponectin plasma level through increasing proinflammatory adipokines such as TNF-α, IL-1β, leptin. Further studies are needed to explore the positive correlation we found between central obesity and the anti-inflammatory cytokines IL-4 and IL-5 known to be associated with bronchial asthma.  相似文献

Current study was designed multiple occlusions and reperfusion of bilateral carotid arteries induced cerebral injury model and evaluated the protective effect of gallic acid on it. In silico study was involved to study gallic acid binding affinity on cerebrotonic proteins compared with standard drugs using Autodoc vina tool. Cerebral ischemia was induced by occlusion of bilateral common carotid arteries for 10 mins followed by 10 reperfusions (1 cycle), cycle was continued to 3 cycles (MO/RCA), then pathological changes were observed by estimation of brain antioxidants as superoxide dismutase, glutathione, catalase, oxidants like malonaldehyde, cerebral infarction area, histopathology, and study gallic acid treatment against cerebral injury. Gallic acid exhibited a strong binding affinity on targeted cerebrotoxic proteins. MO/RCA rat brain antioxidant levels were significantly decreased and increased MDA levels (p < 0.0001), Infarction size compared to sham rats. Gallic acid treatment rat brain MDA levels significantly decreased (p < 0.4476) and increased SOD (p < 0.0001), CAT (p < 0.0001), GSH (p < 0.0001), cerebral infarction area when compared to MO/RCA group. Developed model showed significant cerebral ischemic injury in rats, injury was ameliorated by Gallic acid treatment and in silico approaches also inhibit the cerebrotoxic protein function by targeting on active sites.  相似文献

Trypanosoma cruzi triggers a progressive myocarditis in mammalians through activation and recruitment of leukocytes and release of inflammatory mediators. The chemokine CX3CL1 has been highlighted for its potential role in the parasite controlling in end-pathological status of infected hosts. This study investigated the systemic and cardiac release of CX3CL1 in experimental T. cruzi infection and how this chemokine correlates with endothelin-1 and TNF. Male Fisher rats (n = 20) were infected, or not, by the Y strain of T. cruzi and parasitemia was daily evaluated and immunoassays performed in the cardiac tissue macerated supernatant and in serum to evaluate CX3CL1, endothelin, and TNF production on days 5 and 15 of infection. T. cruzi infection induced a higher serum and cardiac production of these mediators on days 5 and 15 of infection. In both periods of infection, respectively, CX3CL1 showed a positive correlation with TNF (r = 0.833, p < 0.001 and r = 0.723, p < 0.001) and endothelin-1 (r = 0.801, p < 0.05 and r = 0.857, p < 0.001), which reinforce its participation in the T. cruzi-induced myocarditis development.  相似文献

Trans-anethole (ANE) is a monoterpene present in many aromatic plants, especially Pimpinella anisum (PA). In this regard, we previously reported the anti-depressant potential of PA. Here, we examined the anti-depressant activity of ANE and its possible mechanism in mice. In experiment 1, the animals received ANE (12.5–50 mg.kg -1) 60 min prior to forced swimming and open-field tests. In experiment 2, the animals received several receptor antagonists to assess the possible mechanism of ANE. The administration of ANE (25 and 50 mg.kg -1; p < 0.01 and p < 0.001, respectively) exhibited an anti-depressive-like effect in FST without any significant effect on animal locomotion(p > 0.05). Moreover, haloperidol(p < 0.001), SCH23390(p < 0.001), sulpiride(p < 0.001), ketanserin(p < 0.001), p-chlorophenylalanine(p < 0.001), WAY100135(p < 0.001), reserpine, (p < 0.001) prazosin(p < 0.001), and yohimbine(p < 0.001) inhibited the anti-depressive-like effect of ANE. Furthermore, co-treatment of a subeffective dose of ANE with imipramine or fluoxetine induced synergistic anti-depressant-like effects(p < 0.001). Our data mainly showed that the anti-depressive-like effect of ANE, which can be attributed to the contribution of the monoaminergic system.  相似文献

ContextSerious health risks have been connected to ongoing, escalating exposure to environmental toxins and one of them is acrylamide (ACR), an organic compound. Although there are many published reports on ACR toxicity, limited information is available regarding the use of two potential antioxidants against ACR-instigated reproductive toxicity.AimsThe study focused on investigating the protective effects of vitamin C and 5-ASA against ACR-incited reproductive toxicity.MethodsA total of 50 male mice aged 4 weeks old were treated for 90 days with different concentrations either of ACR or ACR and vitamin C or ACR and 5- ASA or ACR, vitamin C, and 5- ASA.Key resultsACR significantly reduced serum testosterone level (p = 0.0037), sperm concentration (p = 0.0004), and percentage of sperm motility (p = 0.003), as well as increased sperm abnormality; head (p = 0.0058), tail (p = 0.001), and midpiece (p = 0.0339). Besides, the weight (p = 0.0006) and length (p = 0.0105) of testes, as well as weight (p = 0.0001) and length (p = 0.0021) of epididymis were decreased along with atrophy of seminiferous tubules of the testis, and disintegration of the tubular epithelium of epididymis on ACR exposed mice which were improved by vitamin C and 5-ASA administration.ConclusionsVitamin C and 5-ASA can potentially mitigate the negative effects of ACR on male reproduction; however, combined application is recommended for better performance.ImplicationsIn Bangladesh, this work is anticipated to address the health benefits of vitamin C and 5-ASA, particularly in improving the reproductive health of males against ACR toxicity.  相似文献

We studied the immunomodulatory effect of 1,25(OH)2D3 on single cell expression of IFN-γ and TNF-α cytokines in T cell subsets of pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) patients (n = 22) and normal healthy subjects (n = 22). Peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) were cultured with live Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) with or without 1,25(OH)2D3 (10?7 M) for 48 h. T cell subsets positive for IFN-γ and TNF-α were enumerated by flow cytometry and the culture supernatants were assayed for both the cytokines using ELISA. In both NHS and PTB patients, a significantly reduced percentage of IFN-γ and TNF-α expressing CD3+, CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ T cells were observed in cultures stimulated with live MTB and treated with 1,25(OH)2D3 compared to cultures without 1,25(OH)2D3 (NHS; CD3+ IFN-γ+: p < 0.0001; CD3+TNF-α +: p = 0.0292 and PTB; CD3+ IFN-γ+: p = 0.0292; CD3+ TNF-α +: p = 0.0028). The levels of IFN-γ and TNF-α in the culture supernatants of 1,25(OH)2D3 treated cultures were also found to be significantly decreased in both groups (NHS; IFN-γ: p = 0.0001; TNF-α: p < 0.0001) and (PTB; IFN-γ: p < 0.0001; TNF-α: p < 0.0001). A positive correlation was observed between IFN-γ and TNF-α expressing CD3+CD8+ T cells in MTB stimulated cultures treated with or without 1,25(OH)2D3 in NHS (p = 0.0001; p = 0.001, respectively) and PTB patients (p = 0.002; p = 0.005, respectively). The present study revealed the suppressive effect of 1,25(OH)2D3 on single cell expression of IFN-γ and TNF-α by CD3+CD4+ and CD3+CD8+ T cells in pulmonary tuberculosis. This suppressive effect of 1,25(OH)2D3 on proinflammatory and Th1 cytokine positive cells might have a role in reducing inflammation at the site of infection.  相似文献

Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an important pro-inflammatory cytokine of relevance to cardiovascular diseases. The aim of this case-control study was to evaluate the association between the G(-174)C functional polymorphism in the IL-6 gene and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in type 2 diabetes patients. We examined 1090 patients with T2DM and 612 controls. All subjects were genotyped for the G(-174)C polymorphism by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and restriction analysis. There were no significant differences in the distribution of genotypes and alleles between T2DM patients and healthy controls. Significantly higher C allele frequency was observed in CVD+ patients compared to CVD- subgroup (53% vs. 32%, p < 0.0001). The odds ratio for C allele was 2.4 (95% CI 1.99–2.9, p < 0.0001) and for CC genotype 4.55 (95% CI 3.12–6.63, p < 0.000). When the distribution of G(-174)C polymorphism was compared in subgroups with different clinical phenotypes of CVD, a significant association of CC genotype with myocardial infarction was observed. Forty eight percent of patients with MI had the CC genotype compared to 22% of patients without MI (p < 0.0001). In conclusion, type 2 diabetes patients carrying the C allele of the IL-6 G(-174)C polymorphism have a significantly increased risk of CVD.  相似文献

Short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs) produced by microbial fermentation of dietary fibers are utilized by intestinal epithelial cells to provide an energy source for the ruminant. Although the regulation of mRNA expression and inflammatory response involved in SCFAs is established in other animals and tissues, the underlying mechanisms of the inflammatory response by SCFAs in goat jejunum epithelial cells (GJECs) have not been understood. Therefore, the objective of the study is to investigate the underlying mechanisms of the effects of SCFAs on SCFA transporters and inflammatory response in GJECs. These results showed that the acetate, butyrate, and SCFA concentration were markedly reduced in GJECs (p?<?0.01). In addition, the propionate concentration was significantly decreased in GJECs (p?<?0.05). The mRNA abundance of monocarboxylate transporter 1 (MCT1), MCT4, NHE1, and putative anion transporter 1 (PAT1) was elevated (p?<?0.05) by 20 mM SCFAs at pH 7.4 compared with exposure to the pH group. The anion exchanger 2 (AE2) was increased (p?<?0.05) by 20 mM SCFAs at pH 6.2. The mRNA abundance of vH+ ATPase B subunit (vH+ ATPase) was attenuated by SCFAs. For inflammatory responses, IL-1β and TNF-α were increased with SCFAs (p?<?0.05). In addition, IκBα involved in NF-κB signaling pathways was disrupted by SCFAs. Consistently, p-p65 signaling molecule was enhanced by adding SCFAs. However, IL-6 was attenuated by adding SCFAs (p?<?0.05). Furthermore, p-ErK1/2 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway was downregulated by adding SCFAs. In conclusion, these novel findings demonstrated that mRNA abundance involved in SCFA absorption is probably associated to SCFAs and pH value, and mechanism of the inflammatory response by SCFAs may be involved in NF-κB and p-ErK1/2 MAPK signaling pathways in GJECs. IntroductionThe epidemiology of chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) in low and middle income countries is limited. As a result, we analyzed a contemporary cohort of patients from low and middle income countries treated with Imatinib through The Glivec® International Patient Assistance Program (GIPAP).MethodsGeneralized estimating equations (GEE) and Kaplan–Meier estimation were utilized to test for regional variations in age at diagnosis and overall survival among 33,985 patients from 94 countries.ResultsPatients participated from Asia (79.2%), Africa (9.4%), Latin America (8.7%) and Southern/Eastern Europe (2.5%). Sixty-one (61.2%) percent were male. Mean age at diagnosis was 38.5 years (9.4% <20 years and only 4.7% ≥65 years). Using GEE, Asians were youngest (38.3 years), followed by Africans (39.5 years), Southern/Eastern Europeans (41.1 years) and Latin Americans (41.3 years; p < 0.0001). Diagnoses were predominately in chronic stage (78.3%). In 2002, 85.2% of patients had a delay in treatment >1 year; decreasing to 15.5% in 2010 (p < 0.0001). The 3-year overall survival probability was 89.4% (95% CI, 88.9–89.9). In multivariate analysis, risk of death increased among patients 65 years or older at diagnosis (p < 0.0001), time from diagnosis to treatment >1-year (p < 0.0001), diagnoses in the accelerated or blast crisis (p < 0.0001), initial dose of Imatinib >400 mg (p < 0.0001) and among Latin Americans and Africans (p < 0.0001).ConclusionThe GIPAP cohort is the largest series of patients with CML described from low and middle income countries. Differences in age at diagnosis and overall survival exist within and between regions. Additional epidemiological studies should be conducted to assess for possible environmental factors associated with the earlier age at onset.  相似文献

The aims of this project were to transfer hormone-induced spermiation and sperm cryopreservation protocols developed in the model salamander species, Ambystoma tigrinum, to three threatened newt species. Additionally, we tested if supplementation with trehalose or thawing at different temperatures impacts post-thaw sperm parameters. Hormone stimulation protocols were applied to male Notophthalmus meridionalis (N = 10), Neurergus kaiseri (N = 5) and Tylototriton kweichowensis (N = 6) with sperm collected periodically up to 24–28 h post-spermiation dose. Samples of adequate sperm concentration (>70%) were cryopreserved in solutions of 10% Me2SO + 1% BSA with or without a 10% trehalose cryodiluent. Frozen sperm samples were thawed at either 20 °C or 40 °C and examined for post-thaw motility parameters and abnormalities in head and tail structure. The spermiation response to exogenous hormone treatment was significantly different between newt species, with a success rate of 0% for N. kaiseri, 67% for T. kweichowensis, and 100% for N. meridionalis. Sperm concentration varied with time of collection after hormone administration in both T. kweichowensis and N. meridionalis. For N. meridionalis, structural abnormalities decreased in samples collected over the 24 h period (p < 0.0001) and a thaw temperature of 40 °C resulted in higher relative total sperm motility (p < 0.0001). This is the first study to describe the cryopreservation of sperm from two newt species and demonstrates the transferability of ART developed in a salamander to two newt species.  相似文献

Camel Trypanosomiasis (Surra) is mainly caused by Trypanosoma evansi strains that express variable surface glycoprotein (VSG) RoTat 1.2. However, in Kenya a second causative strain that does not express RoTat 1.2 VSG (T. evansi type B) has been identified. The prevalence of T. evansi type B largely remains unknown due to inadequate diagnostic assay. This work reports the development of a sensitive and specific diagnostic assay capable of detecting T. evansi type B based on the strategy of Loop-mediated Isothermal Amplification (LAMP) of DNA. The test is rapid and amplification is achieved within 20-25 min at 63 °C using a real time PCR machine. Restriction enzyme AluI digestion of the amplicon gave the predicted 83 bp and 89 bp sized bands and the LAMP product melt curves showed consistent melting temperature (Tm) of ∼89 °C. The assay analytical sensitivity is ∼0.1 tryps/ml while that of classical PCR test targeting the same gene is ∼10 tryps/ml. There was a 100% agreement in detection of the LAMP amplification product in real time, gel electrophoresis, on addition of SYBR Green I, and when using chromatographic Lateral Flow Dipstick (LFD) format. The use of the LAMP test revealed nine more T. evansi type B DNA samples that were not initially detected through PCR. The robustness and higher sensitivity of the T. evansi type B LAMP assay coupled with the visual detection of the amplification product indicate that the technique has strong potential as a point-of-use test in surra endemic areas.  相似文献

The presence of a TP53 gene mutation can influence tumour response to some treatments, especially in breast cancer. In this study, we analysed p53 mRNA expression, LOH at 17p13 and TP53 mutations from exons 2 to 11 in 206 patients with breast carcinoma and correlated the results with disease-free and overall survival. The observed mutations were classified according to their type and location in the three protein domains (transactivation domain, DNA binding domain, oligomerization domain) and correlated with disease-free and overall survival. In our population, neither p53 mRNA expression nor LOH correlated with outcome. Concerning TP53 mutations, 27% of tumours were mutated (53/197) and the presence of a mutation in the TP53 gene was associated with worse overall survival (p = 0.0026) but not with disease-free survival (p = 0.0697), with median survival of 80 months and 78 months, respectively. When alterations were segregated into mutation categories and locations, and related to survival, tumours harbouring mutations other than missense mutations in the DNA binding domain of P53 had the same survival profiles as wild-type tumours. Concerning missense mutations in the DNA binding domain, median disease-free and overall survival was 23 months and 35 months, respectively (p = 0.0021 and p<0.0001, respectively), compared with 78 and 80 months in mutated tumours overall. This work shows that disease-free and overall survival in patients with a frameshift mutation of TP53 or missense mutation in the oligomerization domain are the same as those in wild-type TP53 patients.  相似文献

In the present study we examined the effect of seminal plasma (SP) on angiogenesis in the porcine oviduct. Gene expressions of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and its two receptors (Flt-1: fms-like tyrosine kinase and Flk-1/KDR: fetal liver kinase-1/kinase insert domain-containing receptor) as well as fibroblast growth factors (FGF-1 and 2) and von Willenbrand factor (VWF) were determined in the oviduct of SP-treated and control (PBS-treated) gilts. Moreover, vascular density (VD) indicated by endothelial cell area immunolocalized by VWF staining, was assessed in the oviducts. Real-time PCR revealed significantly higher expression of FGF-2 and VWF on day 1 (p < 0.05) after SP administration in comparison to control animals. In contrast, Flt-1 mRNA level on day 1 was lower in SP-treated gilts compared to controls (p < 0.05). In the examined oviductal sections, VD did not differ between control and SP-treated animals. However, in SP-treated animals VD was higher on day 5 than on day 1 (p < 0.05) or 3 (p < 0.01). SP had no significant effect on VEGF, Flk-1/KDR and FGF-1 mRNA expression. In conclusion, our results suggest that SP affects the vascular network by changing the expression of factors contributing to angiogenesis.  相似文献

Collagen sub-types have an important role in corneal structure and are reported to be an important genetic predictor for keratoconus (KC) development, therefore we assessed the association of collagen subtypes by screening non-synonymous polymorphisms of COL4A3 and COL4A4 in South-Asian (Pakistani) patients.MethodsA total of 257 KC sporadic cases, gender and ethnicity matched 253 control individuals were screened for three non-synonymous single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs55703767and rs10178458 in COL4A3 and rs2229814 and one synonymous SNP rs2228555 in COL4A4. The genotyping was done by Competitive Allele specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the data were analyzed statistically.ResultsAmong the studied SNPs, the COL4A3 rs55703767 GT genotype (dominant model (DM): odds ratio (OR) = 0.243, (95 %CI) = 0.16–0.36, p=>0.0001), and allele-G (OR = 0.35, 95 %CI = 0.26–0.48, p < 0.000)), showed protective association against KC development. While COL4A3 rs10178458 CT genotype (DM: OR = 2.11(95 %CI = 1.16–3.85), COL4A4 rs2229814 TT genotype (RM: OR = 147.778(95 %CI = 20.401–1070.439), (p > 0.05) and allele-T (OR = 2.351(95 %CI = 1.826–3.028), (p > 0.05); COL4A4 rs2228555 AG genotype (DM: OR = 2.370(95 %CI = 1.594–3.524) (<0.0001) and GG genotype (RM: OR = 2.347(95 %CI = 1.587–3.472), (p < 0.0001); and allele-G (OR = 2.024(95 %CI = 1.577–2.597), (p > 0.0001) were observed to be disease associated.ConclusionCOL4A3 rs10178458 and COL4A4 SNPs rs2229814 and rs2228555 were found to be pathogenic for KC, whereas COL4A3 rs55703767 was found to play a protective role against KC development in South-Asian (Pakistani) Cohort.  相似文献

Under conditions of oxidative stress it is well known that the bioavailability of nitric oxide (NO) is known to be significantly reduced. This process is in part due to the combination of NO with superoxide radicals to form peroxynitrite (ONOO?). While this process inactivates NO per se, it is not certain to which extent this process may also further impair ongoing NO production. Given the pivotal role of arginine availability for NO synthesis we determined the impact of ONOO? on endothelial arginine transport and intracellular arginine metabolism. Peroxynitrite reduced endothelial [3H]-l-arginine transport and increased the rate of arginine efflux in a concentration-dependent manner (both p < 0.05). In conjunction, exposure to ONOO? significantly reduced the intracellular concentration of l-arginine, NG-hydroxy-l-arginine (an intermediate of NO biosynthesis) and citrulline by 46%, 45% and 60% respectively (all p < 0.05), while asymmetric dimethyl arginine (ADMA) levels rose by 180% (p < 0.05). ONOO? exposure did not alter the cellular distribution of the principal l-arginine transporter, CAT1, rather the effect on CAT1 activity appeared to be mediated by protein nitrosation. Conclusion Peroxynitrite negatively influences NO production by combined effects on arginine uptake and efflux, most likely due to a nitrosative action of ONOO? on CAT-1.  相似文献

BackgroundThe increase in life expectancy leads to higher hospitalisation rates in elderly patients. The aim of this work is to study the characteristics of the population over 90 years of age that are admitted due to acute kidney injury (AKI).Material and methodsA cross-sectional study was conducted that included all patients admitted to hospital with AKI in the years 2013 and 2014. Epidemiological characteristics, comorbidity, medication and baseline analytical data were collected, and a comparison was made between patients with age over 90 years-old and the others.ResultsA total of 1733 patients were included, of whom 264 (15%) were over 90 years-old. A significantly higher proportion of these patients were women. The most frequent cause of AKI in patients older than 90 years was functional (81%) (p < 0.001 compared to other age groups). The main cause of hospital admission was infection. In the group of over 90 years of age, a higher prevalence was found for arterial hypertension (p = 0.005), chronic kidney disease (p = 0.014), congestive heart failure (p = 0.006), and cognitive impairment (p < 0.0001). The baseline glomerular filtration rate by CKD-EPI was lower in the group of patients older than 90 years (p < 0.0001). Patients under 90 years admitted to hospital due to AKI, had a higher prevalence of diabetes mellitus (p < 0.001), dyslipidaemia (p < 0.001), history of neoplasia (p < 0.001), and a higher Barthel index (p < 0.0001).ConclusionsNonagenarians admitted due to AKI have functional aetiology as the most common factor. These patients have a higher prevalence of hypertension, heart failure, chronic kidney disease, low functional status, and more cognitive impairment.  相似文献
