Chilli leaf disease has a destructive effect on the chilli crop yield. Chilli leaf disease can result in a significant decrease in both the quantity and quality of the chilli crop. Early detection, perfect identification and accurately diagnosing the disease will aid in increasing the profit of the cultivator. However, after a comprehensive survey investigation, we discovered that no studies have been previously conducted to compare the classification performance of machine learning and deep learning for the chilli leaf disease classification problem. In this study, five main leaf diseases i.e. down curl of a leaf, Geminivirus, Cercospora leaf spot, yellow leaf disease, and up curl disease were identified, and images were captured using a digital camera and are labelled. These diseases were classified using 12 different pretrained deep learning networks (AlexNet, DarkNet53, DenseNet201, EfficientNetb0, InceptionV3, MobileNetV2, NasNetLarge, ResNet101, ShuffleNet, SqueezeNet, VGG19, and XceptionNet) using chilli leaf data with and without augmentation using deep learning transfer. Performance metrics such as accuracy, recall, precision, F1-score, specificity, and misclassification were calculated for each network. VGG19 had the best accuracy (83.54%) without augmentation, and DarkNet53 had the best result (98.82%) with augmentation among all pretrained deep learning networks in our self-built chilli leaf dataset. The result was enhanced by designing a squeeze-and-excitation-based convolutional neural network (SECNN) model. The model was tested on a chilli leaf dataset with different input sizes and mini-batch sizes. The proposed model produced the best accuracy of 98.63% and 99.12% without and with augmentation, respectively. The SECNN model was also tested on different datasets from the PlantVillage data, including apple, cherry, corn, grape, peach, pepper, potato, strawberry, and tomato leaves, separately and with the chilli dataset. The proposed model achieved an accuracy of 99.28% in classifying 43 different classes of plant leaf datasets.  相似文献

Lauraceae and Fagaceae are two large woody plant families that are predominant in the low- and middle-altitude regions in Taiwan. The highly interspecific similarity between some species of the family brings limitations on the management and utilization. This work proposed an approach for identifying 15 Lauraceae species and 20 Fagaceae species using leaf images and convolutional neural networks (CNNs). Leaf specimens of 35 species were collected from the northern, central, and southern parts of Taiwan. Images of the leaves were acquired using flat-bed scanners. Three CNN architectures—DenseNet-121, MobileNet V2, and Xception—were trained. Xception achieved the highest mean test accuracy of 99.39%, and MobileNet V2 required the shortest mean test time of 17.1 ms per image using a GPU. The saliency maps revealed that the characteristics learned by models matched the leaf features used by botanists. A pruning algorithm, gate decorator, was applied to the trained models for reducing the number of parameters and number of floating-point operations of the MobileNet V2 by 55.4% and 69.1%, respectively, while the model accuracy was maintained at 92.03%. Thus, MobileNet V2 has the potential to be used for identifying the Lauraceae and Fagaceae species on mobile devices.  相似文献

A real-time plant species recognition under an unconstrained environment is a challenging and time-consuming process. The recognition model should cope up with the computer vision challenges such as scale variations, illumination changes, camera viewpoint or object orientation changes, cluttered backgrounds and structure of leaf (simple or compound). In this paper, a bilateral convolutional neural network (CNN) with machine learning classifiers are investigated in relation to the real-time implementation of plant species recognition. The CNN models considered are MobileNet, Xception and DenseNet-121. In the bilateral CNNs (Homogeneous/Heterogeneous type), the models are connected using the cascade early fusion strategy. The Bilateral CNN is used in the process of feature extraction. Then, the extracted features are classified using different machine learning classifiers such as Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), multinomial Logistic Regression (MLR), Naïve Bayes (NB), k-Nearest Neighbor (k−NN), Classification and Regression Tree (CART), Random Forest Classifier (RF), Bagging Classifier (BC), Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) and Support Vector Machine (SVM). From the experimental investigation, it is observed that the multinomial Logistic Regression classifier performed better compared to other classifiers, irrespective of the bilateral CNN models (Homogeneous - MoMoNet, XXNet, DeDeNet; Heterogeneous - MoXNet, XDeNet, MoDeNet). It is also observed that the MoDeNet + MLR model attained the state-of-the-art results (Flavia: 98.71%, Folio: 96.38%, Swedish Leaf: 99.41%, custom created Leaf-12: 99.39%), irrespective of the dataset. The number of misprediction/class is highly reduced by utilizing the MoDeNet + MLR model for real-time plant species recognition.  相似文献

Plant diseases cause significant food loss and hence economic loss around the globe. Therefore, automatic plant disease identification is a primary task to take proper medications for controlling the spread of the diseases. Large variety of plants species and their dissimilar phytopathological symptoms call for the implementation of supervised machine learning techniques for efficient and reliable disease identification and classification. With the development of deep learning strategies, convolutional neural network (CNN) has paved its way for classification of multiple plant diseases by extracting rich features. However, several characteristics of the input images especially captured in real world environment, viz. complex or indistinguishable background, presence of multiple leaves with the diseased leaf, small lesion area, solemnly affect the robustness and accuracy of the CNN modules. Available strategies usually applied standard CNN architectures on the images captured in the laboratory environment and very few have considered practical in-field leaf images for their studies. However, those studies are limited with very limited number of plant species. Therefore, there is need of a robust CNN module which can successfully recognize and classify the dissimilar leaf health conditions of non-identical plants from the in-field RGB images. To achieve the above goal, an attention dense learning (ADL) mechanism is proposed in this article by merging mixed sigmoid attention learning with the basic dense learning process of deep CNN. The basic dense learning process derives new features at higher layer considering all lower layer features and that provides fast and efficient training process. Further, the attention learning process amplifies the learning ability of the dense block by discriminating the meaningful lesion portions of the images from the background areas. Other than adding an extra layer for attention learning, in the proposed ADL block the output features from higher layer dense learning are used as an attention mask to the lower layers. For an effective and fast classification process, five ADL blocks are stacked to build a new CNN architecture named DADCNN-5 for obtaining classification robustness and higher testing accuracy. Initially, the proposed DADCNN-5 module is applied on publicly available extended PlantVillage dataset to classify 38 different health conditions of 14 plant species from 54,305 images. Classification accuracy of 99.93% proves that the proposed CNN module can be used for successful leaf disease identification. Further, the efficacy of the DADCNN-5 model is checked after performing stringent experiments on a new real world plant leaf database, created by the authors. The new leaf database contains 10,851 real-world RGB leaf images of 17 plant species for classifying their 44 distinguished health conditions. Experimental outcomes reveal that the proposed DADCNN-5 outperforms the existing machine learning and standard CNN architectures, and achieved 97.33% accuracy. The obtained sensitivity, specificity and false positive rate values are 96.57%, 99.94% and 0.063% respectively. The module takes approximately 3235 min for training process and achieves 99.86% of training accuracy. Visualization of Class activation mapping (CAM) depicts that DADCNN-5 is able to learn distinguishable features from semantically important regions (i.e. lesion regions) on the leaves. Further, the robustness of the DADCNN-5 is established after experimenting with augmented and noise contaminated images of the practical database.  相似文献

Classification and recognition of wood species have critical importance in wood trade, industry, and science. Therefore, accurate identification of wood species is a great necessity. Conventional classification and recognition of wood species require knowledge and experience on the anatomy of wood which is time-consuming, cost-ineffective, and destructive. Hence, convolutional neural networks (CNNs) -a deep learning tool- have replaced the conventional methods. In this study, classification of wood species via the WOOD-AUTH dataset and evaluating the performance of various deep learning architectures including ResNet-50, Inception V3, Xception, and VGG19 in classification with transfer learning was investigated in detail. The dataset contains macroscopic images of 12 wood species with three different types of wood sections: cross, radial and tangential. The experimental findings demonstrate that Xception produced a remarkable performance as compared to the other models in this study and the WOOD-AUTH dataset owners, yielding a classification accuracy of 95.88%.  相似文献

Wheat rusts, caused by pathogenic fungi, are responsible for significant losses in Wheat production. Leaf rust can cause around 45–50% crop loss, whereas stem and stripe rust can cause up to 100% crop loss under suitable weather conditions. Early treatment is crucial in reducing yield loss and improving the effectiveness of phytosanitary measures. In this study, an EfficientNet architecture-based model for Wheat disease identification is proposed for automatically detecting major Wheat rusts. We prepared a dataset, referred to as WheatRust21, consisting of 6556 images of healthy and diseased leaves from natural field conditions. We attempted several classical CNN-based models such as VGG19, ResNet152, DenseNet169, InceptionNetV3, and MobileNetV2 for Wheat rust disease identification and obtained accuracy ranging from 91.2 to 97.8%. To further improve accuracy, we experimented with eight variants of EfficientNet architecture and discovered that our fine-tuned EfficientNet B4 model achieved a testing accuracy of 99.35%, a result that has not been reported in the literature so far to the best of our knowledge. This model can be easily integrated into mobile applications for use by stakeholders for image-based wheat disease identification in field conditions.  相似文献

Visual detection of plants diseases over a large area is time-consuming, and the results are prone to errors due to the subjective nature of human evaluations. Several automatic disease detection techniques that improve detection time and improve accuracy compared to visual methods exist, yet they are not suitable for immediate detection. In this paper, we propose a hybrid convolution neural network (CNN) model to speed up the detection of fall armyworms (faw) infested maize leaves. Specifically, the proposed system combines unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology, to autonomously capture maize leaves, and a hybrid CNN model, which is based on a parallel structure specifically designed to take advantage of the benefits of both individual models, namely VGG16 and InceptionV3. We compare the performance of the proposed model in terms of accuracy and training time to four existing CNN models, namely VGG16, InceptionV3, XceptionNet, and Resnet50. The results show that compared to existing models, the proposed hybrid model reduces the training time by 16% to 44% compared to other models while exhibiting the most superior accuracy of 96.98%.  相似文献

Plant diseases and insect pests cause a significant threat to agricultural production. Early detection and diagnosis of these diseases are critical and can reduce economic losses. The recent development of deep learning (DL) benefits various fields, such as image processing, remote sensing, medical diagnosis, and agriculture. This work proposed a novel approach based on DL for plant disease detection by fusing RGB and segmented images. A multi-headed DenseNet-based architecture was developed, considering two images as input. We evaluated the model on a public dataset, PlantVillage, consisting of 54183 images with 38 classes. The fivefold cross-validation technique achieved an average accuracy, recall, precision, and f1-score of 98.17%, 98.17%, 98.16%, and 98.12%, respectively. The proposed approach can distinguish various plant diseases with different characteristics by image fusion. The high success rate with low standard deviation proves the robustness of the model, and the model can be integrated into plant disease detection and early warning system.  相似文献

Leukemoid reaction like leukemia indicates noticeable increased count of WBCs (White Blood Cells) but the cause of it is due to severe inflammation or infections in other body regions. In automatic diagnosis in classifying leukemia and leukemoid reactions, ALL IDB2 (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia-Image Data Base) dataset has been used which comprises 110 training images of blast cells and healthy cells. This paper aimed at an automatic process to distinguish leukemia and leukemoid reactions from blood smear images using Machine Learning. Initially, automatic detection and counting of WBC is done to identify leukocytosis and then an automatic detection of WBC blasts is performed to support classification of leukemia and leukemoid reactions. Leukocytosis is commonly observed both in leukemia and leukemoid hence physicians may have chance of wrong diagnosis of malignant leukemia for the patients with leukemoid reactions. BCCD (blood cell count detection) Dataset has been used which has 364 blood smear images of which 349 are of single WBC type. The Image segmentation algorithm of Hue Saturation Value color based on watershed has been applied. VGG16 (Visual Geometric Group) CNN (Convolution Neural Network) architecture based deep learning technique is being incorporated for classification and counting WBC type from segmented images. The VGG16 architecture based CNN used for classification and segmented images obtained from first part were tested to identify WBC blasts.

Maize diseases are a major source of yield loss, but due to the lack of human experience and limitations of traditional image-recognition technology, obtaining satisfactory large-scale identification results of maize diseases are difficult. Fortunately, the advancement of deep learning-based technology makes it possible to automatically identify diseases. However, it still faces issues caused by small sample sizes and complex field background, which affect the accuracy of disease identification. To address these issues, a deep learning-based method was proposed for maize disease identification in this paper. DenseNet121 was used as the main extraction network and a multi-dilated-CBAM-DenseNet (MDCDenseNet) model was built by combining the multi-dilated module and convolutional block attention module (CBAM) attention mechanism. Five models of MDCDenseNet, DenseNet121, ResNet50, MobileNetV2, and NASNetMobile were compared and tested using three kinds of maize leave images from the PlantVillage dataset and field-collected at Northeast Agricultural University in China. Furthermore, auxiliary classifier generative adversarial network (ACGAN) and transfer learning were used to expand the dataset and pre-train for optimal identification results. When tested on field-collected datasets with a complex background, the MDCDenseNet model outperformed compared to these models with an accuracy of 98.84%. Therefore, it can provide a viable reference for the identification of maize leaf diseases collected from the farmland with a small sample size and complex background.  相似文献

Plant species recognition is an important research area in image recognition in recent years. However, the existing plant species recognition methods have low recognition accuracy and do not meet professional requirements in terms of recognition accuracy. Therefore, ShuffleNetV2 was improved by combining the current hot concern mechanism, convolution kernel size adjustment, convolution tailoring, and CSP technology to improve the accuracy and reduce the amount of computation in this study. Six convolutional neural network models with sufficient trainable parameters were designed for differentiation learning. The SGD algorithm is used to optimize the training process to avoid overfitting or falling into the local optimum. In this paper, a conventional plant image dataset TJAU10 collected by cell phones in a natural context was constructed, containing 3000 images of 10 plant species on the campus of Tianjin Agricultural University. Finally, the improved model is compared with the baseline version of the model, which achieves better results in terms of improving accuracy and reducing the computational effort. The recognition accuracy tested on the TJAU10 dataset reaches up to 98.3%, and the recognition precision reaches up to 93.6%, which is 5.1% better than the original model and reduces the computational effort by about 31% compared with the original model. In addition, the experimental results were evaluated using metrics such as the confusion matrix, which can meet the requirements of professionals for the accurate identification of plant species.  相似文献

The most significant groupings of cold-blooded creatures are the fish family. It is crucial to recognize and categorize the most significant species of fish since various species of seafood diseases and decay exhibit different symptoms. Systems based on enhanced deep learning can replace the area's currently cumbersome and sluggish traditional approaches. Although it seems straightforward, classifying fish images is a complex procedure. In addition, the scientific study of population distribution and geographic patterns is important for advancing the field's present advancements. The goal of the proposed work is to identify the best performing strategy using cutting-edge computer vision, the Chaotic Oppositional Based Whale Optimization Algorithm (CO-WOA), and data mining techniques. Performance comparisons with leading models, such as Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and VGG-19, are made to confirm the applicability of the suggested method. The suggested feature extraction approach with Proposed Deep Learning Model was used in the research, yielding accuracy rates of 100 %. The performance was also compared to cutting-edge image processing models with an accuracy of 98.48 %, 98.58 %, 99.04 %, 98.44 %, 99.18 % and 99.63 % such as Convolutional Neural Networks, ResNet150V2, DenseNet, Visual Geometry Group-19, Inception V3, Xception. Using an empirical method leveraging artificial neural networks, the Proposed Deep Learning model was shown to be the best model.  相似文献

This paper reviews recent literature concerning a wide range of processes through which climate change could potentially impact global-scale agricultural productivity, and presents projections of changes in relevant meteorological, hydrological and plant physiological quantities from a climate model ensemble to illustrate key areas of uncertainty. Few global-scale assessments have been carried out, and these are limited in their ability to capture the uncertainty in climate projections, and omit potentially important aspects such as extreme events and changes in pests and diseases. There is a lack of clarity on how climate change impacts on drought are best quantified from an agricultural perspective, with different metrics giving very different impressions of future risk. The dependence of some regional agriculture on remote rainfall, snowmelt and glaciers adds to the complexity. Indirect impacts via sea-level rise, storms and diseases have not been quantified. Perhaps most seriously, there is high uncertainty in the extent to which the direct effects of CO2 rise on plant physiology will interact with climate change in affecting productivity. At present, the aggregate impacts of climate change on global-scale agricultural productivity cannot be reliably quantified.  相似文献

Aflatoxins are the most dangerous mycotoxin produced by Aspergillus fungal species, such as Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus, and can cause various health problems, including liver cancer, in humans. Figs and many agricultural products are affected by aflatoxins. It is crucial to detect it before consumption since it is impossible to clean aflatoxin from contaminated foods. Chromatographic methods are considered the gold standard for aflatoxin detection, but these methods are pretty expensive, time-consuming, and destructive. Therefore, various studies have been conducted on non-invasive aflatoxin detection using optical spectroscopic methods. Specifically, aflatoxin-contaminated figs are sorted manually by employees in production facilities using the Bright Greenish Yellow Fluorescence (BGYF) method under ultraviolet (UV) light. However, accurate and safe manual sorting depends on expertise of employees, along with this long exposure time to UV radiation may cause employees skin cancer and eye disorders. This study presents a deep transfer learning-based approach for non-invasive detection and classification of aflatoxin-contaminated dried figs using images captured under UV light. Pre-trained transfer learning models, such as DenseNet, ResNet, VGG, and InceptionNet, are applied to the dataset, but the accuracy of these models does not outperform the other methods that detect aflatoxin with the BGYF method. Therefore, fine-tuning is performed on the models. As a result, training accuracy of 98.57% and validation accuracy of 97.50% is obtained using the DenseNet169 model. The experimental results show that our proposed method achieves the highest accuracy among other methods. Also, the proposed method shows that deep CNN can be used to automatically, rapidly, and effectively detect aflatoxin-contaminated figs.  相似文献

Large-scale plant protein subcellular location prediction   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Current plant genome sequencing projects have called for development of novel and powerful high throughput tools for timely annotating the subcellular location of uncharacterized plant proteins. In view of this, an ensemble classifier, Plant-PLoc, formed by fusing many basic individual classifiers, has been developed for large-scale subcellular location prediction for plant proteins. Each of the basic classifiers was engineered by the K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN) rule. Plant-PLoc discriminates plant proteins among the following 11 subcellular locations: (1) cell wall, (2) chloroplast, (3) cytoplasm, (4) endoplasmic reticulum, (5) extracell, (6) mitochondrion, (7) nucleus, (8) peroxisome, (9) plasma membrane, (10) plastid, and (11) vacuole. As a demonstration, predictions were performed on a stringent benchmark dataset in which none of the proteins included has > or =25% sequence identity to any other in a same subcellular location to avoid the homology bias. The overall success rate thus obtained was 32-51% higher than the rates obtained by the previous methods on the same benchmark dataset. The essence of Plant-PLoc in enhancing the prediction quality and its significance in biological applications are discussed. Plant-PLoc is accessible to public as a free web-server at: (http://202.120.37.186/bioinf/plant). Furthermore, for public convenience, results predicted by Plant-PLoc have been provided in a downloadable file at the same website for all plant protein entries in the Swiss-Prot database that do not have subcellular location annotations, or are annotated as being uncertain. The large-scale results will be updated twice a year to include new entries of plant proteins and reflect the continuous development of Plant-PLoc.  相似文献

Objectives: Middle ear inflammatory diseases are global health problem that can have serious consequences such as hearing loss and speech disorders. The high cost of medical devices such as oto-endoscope and oto-microscope used by the specialists for the diagnosis of the disease prevents its widespread use. In addition, the decisions of otolaryngologists may differ due to the subjective visual examinations. For this reason, computer-aided middle ear disease diagnosis systems are needed to eliminate subjective diagnosis and high cost problems. To this aim, a hybrid deep learning approach was proposed for automatic recognition of different tympanic membrane conditions such as earwax plug, myringosclerosis, chronic otitis media and normal from the otoscopy images.Materials and methods: In this study we used public Ear Imagery dataset containing 880 otoscopy images. The proposed approach detects keypoints from the otoscopy images and following the obtained keypoint positions, extracts hypercolumn deep features from 5 different layers of the VGG 16 model. Classification of tympanic membrane conditions were realized by feeding the deep hypercolumn features to Bi-LSTM network in the form of non-time related data. Results: The performance of the proposed model was evaluated in three different color spaces as Red-Green-Blue (RGB), Hue-Saturation-Value (HSV) and Haematoxylin-Eosin-Diaminobenzidine (HED). The proposed model achieved acceptable results in all color spaces, moreover it showed a very successful performance in classifying tympanic membrane conditions especially in RGB space. Experimental studies showed that the proposed model achieved Acc of 99.06%, Sen of 98.13% and Spe of 99.38%.Conclusion: As a result, a robust model with high sensitivity was obtained for classification of tympanic membrane conditions and it was shown that Bi-LSTM network, which is generally used with time-related data, could also be used successfully with non-time related data for diagnosis of tympanic membrane conditions.  相似文献

The overall accuracy of the hybrid CNN-SVM is obtained as 98.4959%.ConclusionIn today's world, brain cancer is one of the most dangerous diseases with the highest death rate, detection and classification of brain tumors due to abnormal growth of cells, shapes, orientation, and the location is a challengeable task in medical imaging. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a typical method of medical imaging for brain tumor analysis. Conventional machine learning (ML) techniques categorize brain cancer based on some handicraft property with the radiologist specialist choice. That can lead to failure in the execution and also decrease the effectiveness of an Algorithm. With a brief look came to know that the proposed hybrid model provides more effective and improvement techniques for classification.  相似文献

In the field of regenerative medicine, tremendous numbers of cells are necessary for tissue/organ regeneration. Today automatic cell-culturing system has been developed. The next step is constructing a non-invasive method to monitor the conditions of cells automatically. As an image analysis method, convolutional neural network (CNN), one of the deep learning method, is approaching human recognition level. We constructed and applied the CNN algorithm for automatic cellular differentiation recognition of myogenic C2C12 cell line. Phase-contrast images of cultured C2C12 are prepared as input dataset. In differentiation process from myoblasts to myotubes, cellular morphology changes from round shape to elongated tubular shape due to fusion of the cells. CNN abstract the features of the shape of the cells and classify the cells depending on the culturing days from when differentiation is induced. Changes in cellular shape depending on the number of days of culture (Day 0, Day 3, Day 6) are classified with 91.3% accuracy. Image analysis with CNN has a potential to realize regenerative medicine industry.  相似文献
