昆虫访花行为能对植物与传粉者相互作用的很多方面产生直接的影响, 因此相关研究对于理解植物的多样性和植物生殖生态过程非常重要。本文介绍了主要的传粉昆虫种类及其特征, 并探讨了昆虫访花行为及其影响因素的研究方法。同时还探讨了进行夜间传粉昆虫和群落水平上昆虫行为研究的方法, 以期能为植物-传粉者相互作用这一多学科交叉领域的学者, 尤其是植物学家和昆虫学家提供有益的参考资料。  相似文献

Vision guides flight behaviour in numerous insects. Despite their small brain, insects easily outperform current man-made autonomous vehicles in many respects. Examples are the virtuosic chasing manoeuvres male flies perform as part of their mating behaviour and the ability of bees to assess, on the basis of visual motion cues, the distance travelled in a novel environment. Analyses at both the behavioural and neuronal levels are beginning to unveil reasons for such extraordinary capabilities of insects. One recipe for their success is the adaptation of visual information processing to the specific requirements of the behavioural tasks and to the specific spatiotemporal properties of the natural input.  相似文献

Abstract.  1. Arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi can increase a number of plant traits to which pollinating insects are known to respond. These include total plant size, flower number, flower size, and amount of pollen produced.
2. It was hypothesised that these effects would lead to a different visitation rate of pollinating insects on mycorrhizal and non-mycorrhizal plants. To test this idea, three species of annual plants ( Centaurea cyanus , Tagetes erecta , and Tagetes patula ) were grown with and without AM fungi and the visits by pollinating insects were recorded over a 2-month period.
3. In all three species, mycorrhizal plants experienced a greater number of pollinator visits per flower per unit time. Diptera and Hymenoptera were the predominant insects and the latter order showed the strongest response.
4. Here, it is suggested that mycorrhizal fungi increase floral visitation rates by insects, but that the mechanism varies from one plant species to another. In C. cyanus , it appears to be due to flower number per plant, in T. patula it is individual inflorescence size, and in T. patula it is nectar standing crop per inflorescence.  相似文献

The persistence of a species in a given place not only depends on its intrinsic capacity to consume and transform resources into offspring, but also on how changing environmental conditions affect its growth rate. However, the complexity of factors has typically taken us to choose between understanding and predicting the persistence of species. To tackle this limitation, we propose a probabilistic approach rooted on the statistical concepts of ensemble theory applied to statistical mechanics and on the mathematical concepts of structural stability applied to population dynamics models – what we call structural forecasting. We show how this new approach allows us to estimate a probability of persistence for single species in local communities; to understand and interpret this probability conditional on the information we have concerning a system; and to provide out‐of‐sample predictions of species persistence as good as the best experimental approaches without the need of extensive amounts of data.  相似文献

Abstract Various parameters of Callosobruchus maculatus (F.) (Coleoptera: Bruchidae), such as ovipositional behaviour, development period, and ability of newly hatched larvae to utilise the host for further growth, are affected by host attributes that could be physical or chemical in nature. These factors were assessed using green‐ and black‐gram (Leguminosae) seed characteristics to explore whether they affected oviposition behaviour, fecundity, and breeding success in C. maculatus, and to determine whether the presence of cysteine proteinase inhibitor (CPI) within the seeds caused inhibition of proteinase activity in C. maculatus. Investigation revealed that green‐gram (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) varieties differed from black‐gram (Vigna mungo (L.) Hepper) varieties by having softer seeds with smoother seed coats. Green‐gram NM92 and the control had the heaviest seeds with the largest surface area and medium hardness, black‐gram had seeds with medium weight, medium surface area, and maximum hardness, and green‐gram NCM209 had the lightest seeds with smallest surface area and minimum hardness. Varieties with smooth seed coats and greater seed weight and surface area were preferred for oviposition. Grain texture was more important as an oviposition stimulus than grain surface area and size for the Islamabad biotype of C. maculatus. The level of CPI in seeds was not, on its own, responsible for the observed differences in insect development period or larval activity. Development period was shorter in green‐gram with softer seeds and was prolonged in black‐gram with harder seeds. Although C. maculatus did not suffer higher mortality in black‐gram seeds, the delay in development alone may lead to a considerable reduction in seed loss during storage, due to the low rate of multiplication and lower population growth.  相似文献

Echolocating bats detect prey using ultrasonic pulses, and many nocturnally flying insects effectively detect and evade these predators through sensitive ultrasonic hearing. Many eared insects can use the intensity of the predator-generated ultrasound and the stereotyped progression of bat echolocation pulse rate to assess risk level. Effective responses can vary from gentle turns away from the threat (low risk) to sudden random flight and dives (highest risk). Recent research with eared moths shows that males will balance immediate bat predation risk against reproductive opportunity as judged by the strength and quality of conspecific pheromones present. Ultrasound exposure may, in fact, bias such decisions for up to 24 hours through plasticity in the CNS olfactory system. However, brain processing of ultrasonic stimuli to yield adaptive prey behaviors remains largely unstudied, so possible mechanisms are not known.  相似文献

Possible free flights of insects by a single flapping motion were studied. It is well-known that insects utilize vortices generated by flapping, by which they generate larger lift than that evaluated by the ordinary aerodynamic theory. However, the effect of the motion of the center of mass (CM) of the insect on its flight has not been clarified. To clarify the effect, numerical simulation was performed for a simple model considering the coupling between the vertical CM motion and the separation vortices generated by flapping wing. As a result, it is shown that the flapping flight has the following interesting features. First, despite a single flapping motion, the model exhibits two types of flapping flight: a steady flight in which the CM velocity oscillates and a wandering flight in which the CM velocity varies irregularly. These two types of flights are selected by the initial conditions even when all the parameters are the same. Second, at a certain critical parameter value, the steady flight loses its stability and undergoes an abrupt transition to the wandering flight. Interestingly, at this critical value, the steady flight can be regarded as hovering. The possible flights are analyzed in terms of bifurcation, and the bifurcation structure is qualitatively explained based on a simple assumption. These results suggest the significance of the effect of CM motion.  相似文献

Climate warming has been predicted to increase the abundance of herbivorous insects. Together with concurrent poleward shifts in many insect species this may increase herbivore pressure on plants. However, the manner in which plants at higher latitudes become colonized by herbivorous insects in the future is unknown. We established a translocation experiment using 26 micropropagated silver birch Betula pendula genotypes from six populations originating from 60°N to 67°N, to study the susceptibility of the translocated birches to local herbivores. The birches were planted at three different latitudes in Finland (60°N, 62°N and 67°N). We studied the effect of source population and latitudinal translocation on herbivore density, species richness, and community composition among the genotypes growing in the same environmental conditions in two years; 2011 and 2012. The source population explained the variation in the herbivore density only in 2012, whereas latitudinal translocation did not affect herbivore density. Variation in species richness was not explained by the source population or by the latitudinal translocation. At two of the study sites, the similarity of the herbivore communities among the populations decreased with increasing latitudinal distance of the source populations, possibly because birch populations that grow geographically closer to each other are genetically more similar, and therefore support a more similar composition of the arthropod community. All birch genotypes were colonized by local herbivores, suggesting that as herbivores shift their ranges polewards, they are able to colonize novel host‐plant genotypes. This enables compositional changes in insect communities on their host plants in the future, which in turn, might affect total herbivory and eventually, plant growth.  相似文献

Background and Aims

Floral polymorphism is frequently attributed to pollinator-mediated selection. Multiple studies, however, have revealed the importance of non-pollinating visitors in floral evolution. Using the polymorphic annual daisy Ursinia calenduliflora, this study investigated the importance of different insect visitors, and their effects on fitness, in the maintenance of floral polymorphism.

Methods

The spatial structure of a discrete floral polymorphism was characterized based on the presence/absence of anthocyanin floret spots in U. calenduliflora. A 3-year observational study was then conducted in polymorphic populations to investigate differences in visitation rates of dominant visitors to floral morphs. Experiments were performed to explore the floral preference of male and female Megapalpus capensis (the dominant insect visitor) and their effectiveness as pollinators. Next, floral damage by antagonistic florivores and the reproductive success of the two floral morphs were surveyed in multiple populations and years.

Key Results

Floral polymorphism in U. calenduliflora was structured spatially, as were insect visitation patterns. Megapalpus capensis males were the dominant visitors and exhibited strong preference for the spotted morph in natural and experimental observations. While this may indicate potential fitness benefits for the spotted morph, female fitness did not differ between floral morphs. However, as M. capensis males are very efficient at exporting U. calenduliflora pollen, their preference may likely increase the reproductive fitness of the spotted morph through male fitness components. The spotted morph, however, also suffered significantly greater costs due to ovule predation by florivores than the spotless morph.

Conclusions

The results suggest that pollinators and florivores may potentially exert antagonistic selection that could contribute to the maintenance of floral polymorphism across the range of U. calenduliflora. The relative strength of selection imposed by each agent is potentially determined by insect community composition and abundance at each site, highlighting the importance of community context in the evolution of floral phenotypes.  相似文献

为了揭示蜜源植物与传粉昆虫的关系,科学的保护和利用传粉昆虫资源,本研究选取东北地区早春常见蜜源植物柳树Salix、延胡索Corydalis和银莲花Anemone为研究对象,对其传粉昆虫种类和访花行为进行调查,分析不同蜜源植物的传粉昆虫种类、优势类群、多样性和访花行为。结果表明:东北地区早春蜜源植物传粉昆虫共采集726头,隶属于5目14科53种,其中膜翅目4科35种,双翅目5科13种,鳞翅目3科3种,同翅目1科 1种,鞘翅目1科1种。柳树的优势传粉昆虫为蜂类,延胡索的优势传粉昆虫为熊蜂类,银莲花的优势传粉昆虫为蝇类。延胡索的传粉昆虫多样性、均匀度和丰富度均最高。蜜蜂对柳树单位时间内访花次数和单花停留时间最高,为94.33次和18.90 s。熊蜂对延胡索单位时间内访花次数和单花停留时间最高,为76.42次和15.37 s,熊蜂在采集延胡索花时有明显的盗蜜行为,该行为有利于其它传粉昆虫生存。东北地区保护生物多样性和传粉昆虫资源,应结合蜜源植物保护,可在早春时期补种柳树、延胡索和银莲花,并合理搭配,为传粉昆虫提供良好食物源和栖息地。  相似文献

Human activities and climate change pose a continuous threat to the ecological stability of natural rivers in many ways. Understanding and analyzing changes in flow regimes from a multidimensional perspective is essential for water resources management. In this research, a comprehensive evaluation framework was developed to quantitatively assess the hydrological condition of the basin in four aspects: river flow regime, ecological water demand, multiple time scales, and drivers. The health status of the Yuanjiang River was assessed using a combination of Indicators of Hydrologic Alteration (IHA) and eco-flow metrics, and differences in different drivers at different time scales were quantified based on the Choudhury-Yang equation and the ABCD model. The results show that after the abrupt change of the Yuanjiang River in 2004, the runoff decreased by up to 72.97 mm, three of the five groups of IHA reached moderate alteration or above, and its ecological flow was in a tight state for a long time. In addition, the reduction of runoff by precipitation and potential evapotranspiration is not negligible (contribution 40.56%, 6.91%), and the drastic changes in land use and the construction and operation of cascade reservoirs highlight the human impact (contribution 52.53%). Anthropogenic contributions to runoff changes deepen in the order of spring, summer, fall, and winter (6%, 51%, 83%, 95%), and on a monthly scale, human activities were the dominant factor in runoff variability in nine months (61–98%), with climatic factors driving runoff increases of 0.24–6.07 mm only in March, June, September, November, and December.  相似文献

八角金盘(Fatsia japonica(Thunb.)Dccne.et Planch.)为冬季开花植物,探讨其访花昆虫种类及访花行为对研究冬季开花植物的传粉生物学规律具有重要意义。对八角金盘访花昆虫种类、访花频率、访花时间、访花行为进行了初步研究。结果发现:八角金盘的传粉昆虫有2目、3科、3种,主要为膜翅目胡蜂科金环胡蜂Vespa mandarinia Smith、双翅目食蚜蝇科斜斑鼓额食蚜蝇Scaeva pyrastri(L.)及丽蝇科大头金蝇Chrysomya(Compsomyia)megacephala(Fabricius);八角金盘提供的酬物主要为花粉与花蜜,食蚜蝇舔食其花粉与花蜜,而金环胡蜂与大头金蝇主要吮吸花蜜;金环胡蜂、大头金蝇及斜斑鼓额食蚜蝇的访花高峰均在10:30—14:30;斜斑鼓额食蚜蝇访花时间较长,5~10min,金环胡蜂访花时间较短,8~30s,大头金蝇访花时间最短只有3~5s。八角金盘具有较低的自花授粉能力,但主要为异花授粉植物。  相似文献

对兴安鹿蹄草(Pyrola dahurica(H.Andr.)Kom.)访花昆虫种类、访花频率、访花时间、访花行为进行初步研究。结果表明:(1)兴安鹿蹄草的访花昆虫有3目、10科、16种,其中传粉昆虫为5科9种,主要的传粉昆虫为杂棘蝇Phaonia hybridassp.、熊蜂Bombus ignitus、东北驼花天牛Piidonia puziloi(Soisky)及花蚤Mordellidae sp.。(2)各种传粉昆虫访花频率差异较大,杂棘蝇和花蚤日访花有2次高峰,分别在上午9:00~10:00时和下午14:00~15:00时;熊蜂日访花频率较低,在中午11:00~12:00和下午15:00~16:00时较高;东北驼花天牛日访花高峰出现在中午前后。(3)东北驼花天牛访花时间较长,10~15min,主要吃兴安鹿蹄草花粉。杂棘蝇访花时间较短,10~25s,主要舔食柱头分泌物。熊蜂访花时间最短只有5~10s,主要吃兴安鹿蹄草花粉。  相似文献

Monitoring insects across space and time is challenging, due to their vast taxonomic and functional diversity. This study demonstrates how nets mounted on rooftops of cars (car nets) and DNA metabarcoding can be applied to sample flying insect richness and diversity across large spatial scales within a limited time period. During June 2018, 365 car net samples were collected by 151 volunteers during two daily time intervals on 218 routes in Denmark. Insect bulk samples were processed with a DNA metabarcoding protocol to estimate taxonomic composition, and the results were compared to known flying insect richness and occurrence data. Insect and hoverfly richness and diversity were assessed across biogeographic regions and dominant land cover types. We detected 15 out of 19 flying insect orders present in Denmark, with high proportions of especially Diptera compared to Danish estimates, and lower insect richness and diversity in urbanized areas. We detected 319 species not known for Denmark and 174 species assessed in the Danish Red List. Our results indicate that the methodology can assess the flying insect fauna at large spatial scales to a wide extent, but may be, like other methods, biased towards certain insect orders.  相似文献

Body size is an integral functional trait that underlies pollination‐related ecological processes, yet it is often impractical to measure directly. Allometric scaling laws have been used to overcome this problem. However, most existing models rely upon small sample sizes, geographically restricted sampling and have limited applicability for non‐bee taxa. Allometric models that consider biogeography, phylogenetic relatedness, and intraspecific variation are urgently required to ensure greater accuracy. We measured body size as dry weight and intertegular distance (ITD) of 391 bee species (4,035 specimens) and 103 hoverfly species (399 specimens) across four biogeographic regions: Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. We updated existing models within a Bayesian mixed‐model framework to test the power of ITD to predict interspecific variation in pollinator dry weight in interaction with different co‐variates: phylogeny or taxonomy, sexual dimorphism, and biogeographic region. In addition, we used ordinary least squares regression to assess intraspecific dry weight ~ ITD relationships for ten bees and five hoverfly species. Including co‐variates led to more robust interspecific body size predictions for both bees and hoverflies relative to models with the ITD alone. In contrast, at the intraspecific level, our results demonstrate that the ITD is an inconsistent predictor of body size for bees and hoverflies. The use of allometric scaling laws to estimate body size is more suitable for interspecific comparative analyses than assessing intraspecific variation. Collectively, these models form the basis of the dynamic R package, “pollimetry,” which provides a comprehensive resource for allometric pollination research worldwide.  相似文献
