The Plakarthriidae is a small group of flabelliferan isopods whose members have a unique, highly modified morphology. Its superficial similarity to the Sphaeromatidae has obscured the classification of this family. Plakarthrium, the only genus, is a specialized offshoot of the Flabellifera, well separated from other groups. We discuss the Plakarthriidae and its evolutionary implications and review what little is known of its natural history. The systematic section includes a taxonomic revision of the Plakarthriidae.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to assess the effect of six different temperatures on the development of Acarophenax lacunatus (Cross & Krantz) using eggs of Tribolium castaneum (Herbst) and Cryptolestes ferrugineus (Stephens) as hosts. The temperature affected the development of A. lacunatus. The largest values for the progeny (19 mites in T. castaneum and 15 mites in C. ferrugineus) were obtained at about 30 degrees C, as also observed for the net reproductive rate (Ro), which revealed that the A. lacunatus population increased 18 times in T. castaneum and 14 times in C. ferrugineus in a generation. The intrinsic rate of increase (r m) gradually increased with temperature, reaching the maximum value at 35 degrees C in T. castaneum (1,608) and C. ferrugineus (1,289). The generation time was negatively correlated with temperature, ranging from 1,60 to 4,85 days in T. castaneum and from 1,96 to 5,34 days in C. ferrugineus. These results suggest that the mite A. lacunatus may be used in programs of biological control of T. castaneum and C. ferrugineus in the tropics.  相似文献

The interaction between Acarophenax lacunatus (Cross & Krantz) and Anisopteromalus calandrae (Howard) may be a promising tool for the integrated pest management of stored grain insect pests. The objective of this study was to evaluate the compatibility of these two natural enemies on Rhyzopertha dominica (Fabricius). The experimental units were petri dishes (140 x 10 mm) containing 30 g of whole wheat grains (13% water content) infested with 20 adults of R. dominica. The treatments consisted of inoculation of A. lacunatus and A. calandrae, separately and associated, in eight replicates. Three inoculations of five adult females of the natural enemies were carried out in each petri dish at five, ten and fifteen days after the infestation of R. dominica. All treatments were stored during 60 days in environmental chamber at 30 +/- 1 degrees C, 60 +/- 5% relative humidity and 24 h scotophase. The smallest numbers of physogastric females of A. lacunatus and of adults of A. calandrae were obtained when the natural enemies were in association. The use of A. calandrae alone demonstrated a low instantaneous rate of increase (r(i)) of R. dominica and a high protection of the wheat grains. The association of A. calandrae with A. lacunatus led to the lowest number of immatures of R. dominica. These results demonstrate the importance of this interaction as a tool of for the integrated management of R. dominica in stored wheat grains.  相似文献

The impact of sedimentary conditions on the settlement, growth, and morphology of primitive spatangoid sea urchins of the genus Toxaster from the Lower Cretaceous (Valanginian and Hauterivian of the Provencal platform) is analyzed. The analyses concern spatial and temporal patterns of variation. The spatial approach is based on six isochronous populations of Toxaster granosus kiliani (424 specimens in total) dated from the Verrucosum biozone, and distributed along a proximo-distal gradient. The temporal approach concerns a reference section (Carajuan) ranging from the Lower Valanginian to the Upper Hauterivian, and involving the species T. granosus kiliani and T. gibbus. Sedimentary environments have been characterized by a factorial analysis of five characteristics of facies. Sea urchin morphology has been described with seven measures allowing the computation of two angles (α and β), and of six shape indices analyzed through a principal components analyses. The spatial approach shows that the adult mean size (> 20 mm) increases distally, and that morphology changes significantly across localities. However, only variations in α and β are sequentially organized along the proximo-distal gradient (they correspond to a forward migration of the peristome and to an expansion of the plastronal area). The stratigraphic survey of facies variation along the 369 beds analyzed in Carajuan shows a clear change in sedimentary conditions: from unstable with bioclastic events (Valanginian), to homogeneous with a low content in bioclasts (Hauterivian). Most Toxaster specimens are concentrated in three stratigraphic units (Campylotoxus and Verrucosum biozones for T. granosus kiliani; Sayni biozone for T. gibbus), their abundance being related to the macrofaunal presence and diversity and to burrowing activity. The adult mean size is only significantly related to facies variation, for the T. granosus kiliani from the Verrucosum biozone, increasing with textural gradient and bioclastic content. Shape - facies relationships have been identified for T. granosus kiliani in both Campylotoxus and Verrucosum intervals. However, the morphological variables and facies characteristics involved differ between the two biozones. The synthesis of all significant relationships between size or shape and facies characteristics demonstrates that the response of Toxaster to environmental changes was limited, and varied in space as well as for the different periods of time considered. The only recurring impact of sedimentary changes involved sea urchin abundance, that is, their ability to settle. The low adaptive potential of Toxaster is discussed in the context of the early radiation of the Spatangoida.  相似文献

We have investigated the photophysical properties of two metal complexes, [M(tpy-py)2][PF6]2, where tpy-py = 4′-(4-pyridyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine and M = Ru(II) or Os(II), in acetonitrile and aqueous solutions at room temperature. Because the 4-pyridyl unit on the 4′-position of each tpy ligand contains a basic nitrogen atom, both of these compounds can exist in three different protonation states. We observed that the absorption and luminescence spectra of these compounds vary on changing the pH, because the protonation of the pendant pyridine unit makes it an electron acceptor by lowering the energy of its π orbital. We employed the absorption and luminescence spectral changes to study the acid-base reactions for these complexes, and found that the two protonation stages exhibit different pKa values both in the electronic ground state and in the lowest (emitting) excited state. The absorption spectra and luminescence spectra and lifetimes of the deprotonated, mono-protonated and bis-protonated forms were also determined. While the absorption spectra of the variously protonated forms of both compounds can be intepreted in terms of a linear combination of two different and independent chromophores, namely M(tpy-py) and M(tpy-pyH+), the corresponding luminescence spectra exhibit a more complex behaviour, suggesting that the coupling between the two ligands in the lowest excited state is not negligible. Interestingly, at a low pH the luminescence of the Ru complex is switched on, whereas that of the Os complex is strongly quenched upon protonation of the pendant pyridine units. These compounds are of interest because they exhibit a luminescent signal in the red or far red spectral region that can be switched on or off by protons in solution. Hence, they could find applications as luminescent pH sensors and as molecular switches where a low-energy emission signal can be controlled by a chemical acid-base stimulation.  相似文献

Ooencyrtus nezarae (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) is an egg parasitoid of bean bug Riptortus pedestris (Hemiptera: Alydidae) which is a major pest of beans. Females of O. nezarae are attracted to (E)‐2‐hexenyl (Z)‐3‐hexenoate (EZ), one of the components of aggregation pheromone of Rpedestris. Effects of three isomers (ZE, EE and ZZ) of EZ on the attractiveness of O. nezarae were tested using electroantennography (EAG) and field bioassays. EAG analyses revealed that the response of O. nezarae to ZE was significantly higher than those to air, hexane and two other isomers, even though the response was lower than that to EZ. ZE affected the attractiveness of EZ dose‐dependently in the field. Addition of ZE (100 mg) to EZ (10 mg) caused a significant reduction in the catches of O. nezarae females. Single or binary addition of two other isomers (EE and ZZ) to EZ could not decrease or increase significantly the number of O. nezarae catches of EZ. Even though addition of ZZ (10, 50 or 100 mg) to EZ (10 mg) caused dose‐dependent reduction in the number of O. nezarae female catches, the reductions were not significantly different from that of EZ. EZ and its three isomers were not attractive to O. nezarae males at all.  相似文献

The citrus fruit borer, Ecdytolopha aurantiana (Lima, 1927) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is responsible for major losses to the citrus industry because it causes rot and drop of fruits. The current study aimed to select and characterize Bacillus thuringiensis (Berliner, 1911) strains toxic to E. aurantiana. For this purpose, 47 B. thuringiensis strains were evaluated in selective bioassays using first instar larvae of E. aurantiana. The lethal concentration (LC50) of the most toxic strains was estimated, and the strains were characterized by morphological, biochemical, and molecular methods. Of the 47 strains tested, 10 caused mortality above 85% and showed mean lethal concentrations between 1.05E+7 and 1.54E+8 spores mL?1. The lowest LC50 values were obtained for the HD-1 standard strain and the BR145, BR83, BR52, and BR09 strains. The protein profile showed the presence of Cry proteins of 60, 65, 70, 80, and 130 kDa. The molecular characterization showed the presence of cry1, cry2, cry3, and cry11 genes. The morphological analysis identified three different crystalline inclusions: bipyramidal, round, and cuboidal. The cry1 and cry2 genes were the most frequent among the B. thuringiensis strains evaluated and encode Cry proteins toxic to insects of the order Lepidoptera, which agree with the toxicity results obtained by the selective bioassays against E. aurantiana. The results showed four different B. thuringiensis strains toxic to E. aurantiana at the same level as the HD-1 standard strain, and these strains have biotechnological potential for E. aurantiana control through the production of transgenic plants or the formulation of biopesticides.  相似文献
