Eighteen flavonoids were identified from an aqueous extract of the aerial parts of Dianthus versicolor, a plant used in traditional Mongolian medicine against liver diseases. The flavonoid C- and O-glycosides isoorientin-7-O-rutinoside, isoorientin-7-O-rhamnosyl-galactoside, isovitexin-7-O-rutinoside, isovitexin-7-O-rhamnosyl-galactoside, isoscoparin-7-O-rutinoside, isoscoparin-7-O-rhamnosyl-galactoside, isoscoparin-7-O-galactoside, and isoorientin-7-O-galactoside were isolated and structurally elucidated. Their structures were established on the basis of extensive spectroscopic techniques including LC–UV–DAD, LC–MSn, LC–HRMS, 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, and by GC–MS analysis after hydrolysis. Flavonoids with such a high glycosylation pattern are rare within the genus Dianthus. Furthermore, isovitexin-7-O-glucoside (saponarin), isovitexin-2″-O-rhamnoside, apigenin-6-glucoside (isovitexin), luteolin-7-O-glucoside, apigenin-7-O-glucoside, as well as the aglycons luteolin, apigenin, chrysoeriol, diosmetin, and acacetin were identified by TLC and LC–DAD–MSn in comparison to reference substances or literature data. The NMR data of seven structures have not been reported in the literature to date. 相似文献

The Plant Gene Index (PlantGI) database is developed as a web-based search system with search capabilities for keywords to provide information on gene indices specifically for agricultural plants. The database contains specific Gene Index information for ten agricultural species, namely, rice, Chinese cabbage, wheat, maize, soybean, barley, mushroom, Arabidopsis, hot pepper and tomato. PlantGI differs from other Gene Index databases in being specific to agricultural plant species and thus complements services from similar other developments. The database includes options for interactive mining of EST CONTIGS and assembled EST data for user specific keyword queries. The current version of PlantGI contains a total of 34,000 EST CONTIGS data for rice (8488 records), wheat (8560 records), maize (4570 records), soybean (3726 records), barley (3417 records), Chinese cabbage (3602 records), tomato (1236 records), hot pepper (998 records), mushroom (130 records) and Arabidopsis (8 records). A rapid and efficient method for the large-scale propagation of a highly valuable medicinal plant, Andrographis paniculata Nees, through in vitro culture of nodal explants obtained from 15-d-old aseptic seedling has been developed. High frequency direct shoot proliferation
was induced in nodal explants cultured on Murashige and Skoog’s medium supplemented with 6-benzylaminopurine (BAP). Amongst
the various cytokinins tested (BAP, kinetin, thidiazuron and 2-isopentyl adenine), BAP proved to be the most effective. The
shoot forming capacity of the nodal explants was influenced by the BAP concentration (1–12.5 μM), and the optimal response
was observed at 10 μM BAP, which induced an average of 34 shoots in 94% of the cultures within 4 wk. Significant differences
were recorded in terms of average number of shoots per explant (8.6–34.1) among the different concentrations of BAP investigated.
Concentrations of all cytokinins tested reach a level that can be considered above the optimum level, as marked by a reduced
frequency of shoot proliferation. The multiple shoots obtained on various concentrations of BAP failed to elongate even after
transfer to hormone-free MS medium. Elongation of the induced shoots was achieved on MS basal medium supplemented with 1.0 μM
GA3 within 2 wk. A proliferating shoot culture was established by repeatedly subculturing the original nodal explants on shoot
multiplication medium after each harvest of the newly formed shoots. The explants retained their morphogenic potential even
after three harvests. Therefore, in 90 d, about 60–70 shoots were obtained from a single nodal explant and the nodal explants
from primary shoots further regenerated equivalent number of shoots, depicting their high frequency regeneration potential
in A. paniculata. Rooting was best induced in 94% of shoots cultured on MS medium supplemented with 2.5 μM indole-3-butyric acid (IBA), within
a wk. The plantlets were successfully transferred to soil after hardening with a 92% survival rate. The system is rapid: the
initiation of shoot buds to the transplanting of regenerants to soil is completed in 8–9 wk. 相似文献

In this article, I examine the process by which some biomedical physicians and nurses in Australia have come to adopt various alternative therapies in their regimens of practice, largely in response to (1) the growing interest on the part of many Australians in what is generally called "complementary medicine", and (2) a recognition that biomedicine is not particularly effective in treating an array of chronic ailments. Some Australian biomedical physicians and nurses have come to embrace "integrative medicine," which purports to blend the best of biomedicine and complementary medicine, and have even created an Australasian Integrative Medical Association and established integrative medical training programs and centers. I argue that the adoption of alternative therapies and the development of integrative medicine on the part of Australian biomedical physicians and nurses constitute another national manifestation of the co-option of complementary and alternative medicine. 相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effects of Hochuekkito, a traditional Japanese and Chinese medicine, in the treatment of elderly patients with general weakness. To devise a suitable study design for assessing the clinical effectiveness of traditional herbal medicines. METHODS: Fifteen elderly patients (mean +/- SD: age 78.4 +/- 7.8; m/f 3/12) participated in this study. A multicenter, prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study with N of one and responder restricted design was performed. After the run-in period, the patients were divided into responders and non-responders. Only responders were entered in the study, and were randomized into three groups: an active-placebo group, a placebo-active group and an active-active group. The study consisted of two 6-week terms with a 2-week washout period in between. We assessed the Short Form 36 Health Survey (SF-36) and Profile of Mood States (POMS) as an endpoint of quality of life (QOL). In addition, we assessed the biodefense status by measuring the natural killer cytolytic activity (NK activity), IL-2 producing activity of peripheral lymphocytes, lymphocyte proliferating activity and lymphocyte cell-surface antigens. RESULTS: The physical component summary of the SF-36 analysis significantly improved in the Hochuekkito-treated group. Four components (A-H: anger-hostility, F: fatigue, T-A: tension-anxiety, C: confusion) out of six improved in the Hochuekkito-treated group in the POMS analysis. Lymphocyte proliferating activity improved in the Hochuekkito-treated group but not significantly. Concerning the surface antigens of peripheral lymphocytes, the population of CD3 positive cells and CD3CD4 double positive cells increased in the Hochuekkito-treated group. CONCLUSION: We revealed that Hochuekkito improved the QOL and immunological status of elderly patients with weakness by randomized controlled trial. Our study design might be useful for assessing the efficacy of traditional herbal medicine in the future. 相似文献

Increased public concern and strict statutory regulations relating tothe generation and exploitation of genetically modified organisms, make itimperative to track accurately individual plants through DNA transformationprogrammes. The ability to rapidly retrieve information associated withspecifictransgenic events and to provide accurate reports on demand is an increasinglyimportant feature for public research laboratories. Transgenic Plant Monitor(TPM) has been developed as a database structured to allow efficient recording,monitoring and analysis of the extensive and complex data generated in planttissue culture and transformation experiments. TPM is built upon the widelyavailable Microsoft Access database engine and can be readily adoptedand/or adapted by other users. 1. Pigment analyses by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) are commonly used for determining algal groups in marine and estuarine areas but are underdeveloped in freshwaters. In this study, 15 characteristic pelagic algal species (representing five algal groups) of oligo‐ / mesotrophic lakes were cultured and pigment / Chl a ratios determined at three light intensities. 2. With the exception of cyanophytes, light treatment had little effect on pigment / Chl a ratios. This justifies the use of the same pigment / Chl a ratios during seasonal studies where light conditions may change. 3. The determined pigment / Chl a ratios were tested on seasonal samples from five oligo‐ / mesotrophic lakes and three streams using CHEMTAX software. Pigment ratios of both pelagic and benthic algal communities from the lakes and streams were analysed to determine whether the pelagic algae‐based ratios can be used for benthic algal communities. 4. HPLC combined with CHEMTAX was useful for identifying freshwater phytoplankton classes and for quantifying the abundance of phytoplankton groups. However, although correlations were significant for six of seven phytoplankton classes studied, they were weak and varied with season. 5. HPLC was valid for quantifying benthic diatom groups in stream samples, whereas for lakes more benthic algal groups were recorded with HPLC than with microscopy and correlations between the two methods were not significant. 6. The use of both HPLC and microscopy is recommended as a cost‐efficient method for analysing many samples. It is crucial, however, that the CHEMTAX software is calibrated with the correct information, and the user is aware of the limitations. 相似文献

The genus Thinempis (Diptera: Empididae) is newly described and includes six species, four from Australia – T.austera sp.n., T.esperance sp.n., T.minuta sp.n., and T.turimetta sp.n., and two from New Zealand – T.otakouensis (Miller) comb.n., and T.takaka sp.n. It occurs in coastal habitats and is defined by a unique synapomorphy, a modified triangular female oviscapt (tergum 10). However, the genus shows variable expression in characters considered to be of higher taxonomic importance in the Empidinae. The tribes Hilarini and Empidini are discussed and redefined. 相似文献

Comparative studies of the health, well-being, and social functioning of adolescents and youths have, in the past two decades, been focused on young people in developing countries where rapid social, cultural, and economic changes have been associated with dramatic increases in the rates of social problems indicative of poorer mental health. Young people in many Pacific Island societies suffer from some of the highest rates of social problems like suicide and substance abuse in the world. It is generally agreed that the increases in rates of social problems among youths in this region result from increases in psychosocial stress, anger, and frustration surrounding intergenerational conflict within the family. Much less is known about the aspects of everyday experiences of young people in the Pacific that can lead to psychosocial stress and the angry episodes of interpersonal conflict that often precede suicide attempts and binge drinking. This paper examines 40 cases of interpersonal conflict in young men's and women's experiences in the islands of Chuuk of the Federated States of Micronesia to better understand what can lead to elevated levels of psychosocial stress for youths in the Pacific. This study shows that the emotional crises of young people in Chuuk often emerge from the incongruence in their pursuit of valued personal and social identities within the family, the community, and the peer group. Thus youths who experience more incongruity in their engagements across the multiple activity settings of everyday life are at greater risk for stressful experiences. 相似文献

Plants play an important role in the removal of excess heavy metals from soil and water. Medicinal plants can also have non-traditional use in phytoremediation technologies. Among the heavy metals, Cadmium (Cd) is the most abundant and readily taken up by the crop plants. Plant metallothioneins (MTs) are small proteins having cysteine-rich residues and appear to play key roles in metal homoeostasis. Plant metallothionein 2 (MT 2) from Coptis japonica (Gold-thread; CjMT 2) is a typical member of this subfamily and features two cysteine-rich regions containing eight and six cysteine residues, respectively, separated by 42 amino acids long linker region. In-silico analysis of MT 2 protein sequences of C. japonica was performed. In this study, ab initio methods were utilised for the prediction of three-dimensional structure of CjMT 2. After structure validation, heavy metal-binding sites were predicted for the selected modelled structures of CjMT 2. To obtain Cdi-CjMT 2 (i = 1–7), metalated complex individual docking experiments were performed. The stability of the metalated docked structures was assessed by molecular dynamics (MD) simulation studies. Our study showed that CjMT 2 binds up to 4 Cd2+ ions in two distinct domains: a N-terminal β-domain that binds to 2 Cd2+ ions and a C-terminal α-domain that binds with 2 Cd2+ ions. Our analysis revealed that Cys residues of alpha and beta domain and some residues of spacer region of CjMT 2 protein might be important for the cadmium interaction. MD simulation studies provided insight into metal-induced conformational changes and mechanism of metalation of CjMT 2, an intrinsically disordered protein. We examined the relationships between the diversities of vegetation, adult nectar plants, and butterflies in and around the
Aokigahara primary woodland on the northwestern footslopes of Mount Fuji, central Japan. The results showed that the nectar
resource utilization by adult butterflies was significantly biased to herbaceous plants, especially to perennials, compared
to woody species, although most of the study area was in and near a primary woodland. There were greater nectar plant species
in sites with greater plant species richness. Among the butterfly community indices analyzed, the strongest correlation was
detected between butterfly species richness and nectar plant species richness at each site. Another close correlation was
detected between the species richness of nectar plants and herbaceous plants at each site. These results suggest that herbaceous
plant species richness in a habitat plays a central role in its nectar plant species richness, and the nectar plant richness
is a highly important factor supporting its adult butterfly species richness. Consequently, we propose that the maintenance
and management of herbaceous plant species richness in a butterfly habitat, which lead to those of its nectar plant species
richness, are very important for conservation of butterfly diversity even in and around woodland landscapes of temperate regions. 相似文献

Total synthesis of podophyllotoxin is an expensive process and availability of the compound from the natural resources is an important issue for pharmaceutical companies that manufacture anticancer drugs. In order to facilitate reasoned scientific decisions on its management and conservation for selective breeding programme, genetic analysis of 28 populations was done with 19 random primers, 11 ISSR primers and 13 AFLP primer pairs. A total of 92.37 %, 83.82 % and 84.40 % genetic polymorphism among the populations of Podophyllum were detected using RAPD, ISSR and AFLP makers, respectively. Similarly the mean coefficient of gene differentiation (Gst) were 0.69, 0.63 and 0.51, indicating that 33.77 %, 29.44 % and 26 % of the genetic diversity resided within the population. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated that 53 %, 62 % and 64 % of the genetic diversity among the studied populations was attributed to geographical location while 47 %, 38 % and 36 % was attributed to differences in their habitats using RAPD, ISSR and AFLP markers. An overall value of mean estimated number of gene flow (Nm) were 0.110, 0.147 and 0.24 from RAPD, ISSR and AFLP markers indicating that there was limited gene flow among the sampled populations. 相似文献

Background
The current study aims at evaluating the analgesic, anti-pyretic and anti-inflammatory properties of methanolic extract of the stem, bark and leaves of Launaea sarmentosa and Aegialitis rotundifolia roxb.Results
The AELS and AEAR extract presented a significant (***p < 0.001) dose dependent increase in reaction time in writhing method and showed inhibition of 63.1% and 57.1% respectively at the doses of 400 mg/kg body weight while standard drug showed (P < 0.001) inhibition of 69.23%. In tail immersion method, AELS and AEAR showed maximum time of tail retention at 30 min in hot water i.e. 6.93 sec and 6.54 sec respectively at highest doses of 400 mg/kg body weight than lower dose while standard pentazocine showed reaction time of 7.62 sec. The AELS and AEAR extract also exhibited promising anti-inflammatory effect as demonstrated by statistically significant inhibition of paw volume by 32.48% and 26.75% respectively at the dose of 400 mg/kg body weight while the value at the dose of 200 mg/kg body weight were linear to higher dose at the 3rd hour of study. On the other hand, Standard indomethacin inhibited 40.13% of inflammation (***P < 0.001). In Cotton-pellet granuloma method, AELS and AEAR extract at the dose of 400 mg/kg body weight exhibited inhibition of inflammation of 34.7% and 29.1% respectively while standard drug showed (P < 0.001) inhibition of 63.22%. Intraperitoneal administration of AELS and AEAR showed dose dependent decrease in body temperature in brewer’s yeast induced hyperthermia in rats at both doses. However, AELS significantly decreased body temperature (***p < 0.001) at 400 mg/kg compared to control.Conclusions
Present work propose that the methanolic extract of Launaea sarmentosa and Aegialitis rotundifolia roxb possesses dose dependent pharmacological action which supports its therapeutic use in folk medicine possibly mediated through the inhibition or blocking of release of prostaglandin and/or actions of vasoactive substances such as histamine, serotonin and kinins. 相似文献19.
