Studies have shown that nutrient requirement of suckling kits is not satisfied, but they can be fed a double quantity of milk (double nursing) resulting in improved BW and weight gain. The aim of our trials was to give additional solid feed during the early suckling period (3 to 15 days of age) when rabbit kits drink exclusively milk. Two experiments were conducted with animals from Pannon Rabbit Breeding Program. In experiment 1 (n=77 does, 734 kits) the does received commercial feed (C) or C pellet supplemented with 0.2 g powdered thyme/kg (CT). Within both dietary groups of the does three groups of litters were formed: no additional solid creep feeding (N); soya bean-based pellet (S); S pellet with 1% added powdered thyme (ST). In group S and ST, cylinder-shaped solid pellets were made. At the beginning (3 days of age) two pieces of pellets were placed daily into the nestbox after nursing. Later on it was increased to six pellets till 15 days of age. The kits consumed the additional solid feed (S and ST), however, it did not affect the BW, weight gain or survival. In experiment 2 (n=30 does, 240 kits) all does consumed commercial feed. The additional feed for kits was based on commercial piglet feed. Three groups were formed: the litters in control group were fed no additional solid feed (K), kits were fed additionally with pellets (8 mm of diameter) based on piglet feed powder, pellet adhesive and water (PI), and extra glycerin powder was added to the mixture of piglet feed powder and water (PG). The experiment lasted from the age of 3 days till 21 days. At the beginning six pellets were placed on the nest material. Later on the amount was gradually increased to 24 pellets till age of 15 days. The kits consumed the pellets. The BW of PI group differed from group PG at age of 5, 9, 12 and 21 days by +7.3%, +6.5%, +5.9%, +4.8%, respectively (P<0.05) and from group K at age of 12 days by +5.9% (P< 0.05). The differences were more expressed at age of 16 and 19 days in favour of group PI (from K by +7.1%, +6.9% and from PG by +5.9%, +5 8%, respectively, P<0.01) and at 21 days of age (from K by +6.2%, P<0.01). To find appropriate composition of creep feed for kits further studies are needed.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to measure milk yield as a correlated response to selection for increased 12-day litter weight (maternal lines) for 13 generations and increased and decreased body weight gain from 21 to 42 days of age (postweaning gain lines) for 12 to 14 generations. Milk yield was measured from day 6 to day 21 of lactation by separating litters from their dams for 6 h, then weighing litters before and after a 1.5 h suckling period. Average total milk production was 30.3 +/- 0.9 g and 28.6 +/- 1.1 g in maternal and control lines, respectively. This difference was not significant (P greater than 0.05). Differences among gain lines were significant (P less than 0.01) in the second experiment with average production of 44.1 +/- 1.4 g for increased gain lines, 22.5 +/- 0.9 g for the decreased gain line and 31.2 +/- 1.0 g for the control. These results indicated that response to selection for increased 12-day litter weight was not associated with increases in milk yield, but sizable changes inmilk yield accompanied bi-directional selection for early postweaning gain.  相似文献

HPLC separations coupled with coulometric electrode-based detectors offer potential to evaluate complex biological samples, but analytical approaches to such samples are still being defined. Coulometric electrode array systems use response ratio (as ratio conformity), for quantitation and qualitative characterization. We investigated the influence of changing the ratio conformity requirement (ratio window, RW) on quantitative consistency of the system. Sixty-one serum metabolites were analyzed in three cohorts of ad libitum/dietary restricted rats with two RW settings. RW 30 uses channels with <30% ratio variation (vs standard) to quantitate, whereas RW 100 generally uses all channels. Quantitation between the two approaches differed in 29/671, 61/976, and 264/976 metabolites in cohorts A, B, and C, respectively. The changes were 23.0 +/- 16.6, 31.9 +/- 28.6, and 23.6 +/- 17.1% (+/- SD). Correlation analysis showed that 11, 7, and 21% of the 61 metabolites had r(2) < 0.9 in cohorts A, B, and C, respectively. Inspection of HPLC chromatograms revealed that most of the metabolites with changed levels possessed common characteristics (e.g., shoulder peaks, low signal/noise ratios, coeluting peaks). Analysis demonstrated that RW 30 provided precise quantitation, whereas RW 100 did not. These data suggest that narrow ratio window increases quantitative accuracy in coulometric electrode array analysis of the metabolome(s) of complex biological samples (e.g., sera, mitochondria).  相似文献

The aim of this work was to evaluate the ability of a line selected for reproductive longevity (LP) to confront productive challenges compared to a line selected during 31 generations for litter size at weaning (V). A total of 133 reproductive rabbit does were used (72 and 61 from LP and V lines, respectively). Within each line, three groups with different levels of productive effort were planned: PP9, inseminated at day 4 after the first partum and with nine kits during the second partum, and inseminated after first weaning (30 days) and with nine (PW9) or five kits (PW5) during the second partum. The reproductive performance, body condition (perirrenal fat thickness (PFT)) and lipolytic response were controlled. LP does showed greater mean live weight (LW; +128 g; P < 0.05), PFT (+0.47 mm; P < 0.05) and estimated body energy (EBE; +0.29 MJ/kg; P < 0.01) than V does at second partum. However, LP does that mated at first post partum did not significantly differ in EBE relative to V does at second partum. During the first week of lactation, dry matter (DM) intake was similar for both lines (94 and 95 g DM/kg LW0.75 day for V and LP does, respectively). There was a significant difference in milk yield between both lines during the first week when litter size was nine (60 v. 54 g of milk/kg LW0.75 day for LP and V does, respectively; P < 0.01), but no difference when litter size was five. Consequently, when litter size was nine, LP does showed a lower recovery of PFT (0.6 mm less; P < 0.05) than V does during the first 10 days of lactation. However, when litter size was five, LP does showed a higher LW (+210 g; P < 0.05) than V does at 10 days of lactation and a similar recovery of PFT. During the last 3 weeks of the lactation, LP does showed a higher feed intake (+6 g DM/kg LW0.75 day; P < 0.05) and milk yield (+27 g/day; P < 0.001) than V does when litter size was nine, resulting in no significant differences in LW at 30 days of lactation. However, when litter size was five, both lines showed similar feed intake and milk yield, maintaining their differences in LW at 30 days of lactation (+206 g for LP does; P < 0.05). These results show that the rabbit line selected for reproductive longevity is more robust with respect to coping with productive challenges, than a line selected for reproductive intensity.  相似文献

The sprouted wheat contains great amounts of 6-methoxybenzoxazolinone (6-MBOA) a phenol compound that stimulates reproduction in certain small wild herbivorous mammals. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of dietary sprouted wheat as supplement on reproduction in artificially inseminated doe rabbits. Two-month-old New Zealand White doe rabbits (n = 48) were randomly allocated to one of two treatments: (1) pelleted diet plus sprouted wheat for 6 consecutive days prior to service, (2) pelleted diet only (control). First insemination occurred when does reach 3200g body weight and bred 6 days after parturition across 6 months period during summer and autumn. Records from 41 does completing the experiment accounted for 192 inseminations and 142 kindlings equivalent to 4.6 +/- 0.15 and 3.5 +/- 0.15 litters per doe, respectively. Mean daily intake of sprouted wheat on wet and dry matter bases were 196.1 +/- 7.5 and 75.4 +/- 2.9g, respectively. The number of young born produced per doe during the trail was significantly (P = 0.02) greater in does fed sprouted wheat (28.1 +/- 1.2 versus 23.6 +/ -1.3 control). Does fed sprouted wheat had 0.65 +/- 0.06 receptivity rate at AI over 28 per cent greater (P = 0.001) than does in the control treatment. Sexual receptivity was not influenced by physiological status of does and season (P > 0.05). Diet and season had no effect (P>0.05) on kindling rate. However, physiological status had an effect (P = 0.002) on this variable. Kindling rates for nulliparous, lactating and non-lactating does were 0.95 +/- 0.08, 0.63 +/- 0.04 and 0.78 +/ -0.11, respectively. Sexually receptive does had a greater (P = 0.0001) kindling rate (0.95 +/- 0.05) than non-receptive females (0.63 +/-0.05). Does fed sprouted wheat produced larger (P = 0.02) litters than those in the control group: 7.7 +/- 0.30 and 6.8 +/- 0.32, respectively. There was an effect of season (P = 0.04) on the size of the litter at birth. Largest litters were born during autumn (7.9 +/- 0.37) than during summer (6.6 +/- 0.41). Receptive does had more (P = 0.002) young in the litter (7.9 +/- 0.28) than non-receptive (6.6 +/- 0.35). Feeding sprouted wheat as a source of biological 6-MBOA enhanced sexual receptivity and prolificacy in artificially inseminated doe rabbits bred in summer and autumn.  相似文献

Inseminating rabbit does at early post-partum, in combination with early weaning, can increase prolificacy (total kits born and still born per parturition) and decrease parturition intervals. Oestrus synchronisation increases fertility and prolificacy, while decreasing the number of inseminations required for gestation. However, little is known about the effectiveness of different oestrus synchronisation methods at early post-partum. In this study, does (n = 138) were artificially inseminated nine times (over a period of 1 year, kits weaned at 25 days), on day 4 post-partum after separation from the litter (for 48 or 24 h) or 48 h after 25 UI eCG injection. Plasma levels of prolactin and estradiol were also evaluated in a subsample of 12 multiparous lactating does per treatment, on days 2, 3 and 4 post-partum. The three treatments increased overall fertility of multiparous females compared to controls (which were not synchronised), but there were no differences among treatments in total kits born or stillborn. Does treated with eCG had a higher culling rate. The interval between parturitions and the number of inseminations required for gestation tended to decrease with increasing number of inseminations. In lactating does, there was an interaction between treatment and insemination order. Fertility decreased with increasing inseminations in eCG does but tended to increase above control values in the separated does until the fourth insemination. Control lactating does had significantly less kits per parturition compared to treatments, but eCG lactating does had more stillborn kits. Oestradiol levels increased on day 4 post-partum in all synchronised lactating does (and immediately before artificial insemination in 48 h doe-litter separation), so ovarian activity could be stimulated at early post-partum using all treatments. However, the increase could not be explained by prolactin levels, since there were no effects of suckling absence on plasma prolactin in separated does. In conclusion, separating does from the litter before insemination can be just as effective as eCG treatment, especially during for the first four inseminations.  相似文献

The ability of young rabbits to digest a solid diet was evaluated according to the weaning age: 21 (W21, 12 litters) or 35 (W35, 12 litters) days of age. From 14 days onwards, the rabbits were fed the same pelleted feed. Three methods were compared to estimate the faecal digestibility in the young rabbits, between 24 to 28 and 38 to 42 days. Digestive balance at ileal and faecal levels was determined for the main nutrients provided by milk and solid feed. The W21 rabbits increased their solid feed intake only 2 days after their weaning, when compared with suckling rabbits. Thus, their crude protein (CP) intake remained lower until 26 days compared with the W35 rabbits (from 41%, P < 0.01), as well as their crude fat intake until 28 days (from 72%, P < 0.001). On the contrary, the W35 rabbits increased their solid feed intake without a delay after weaning, quickly reaching the intake level of the W21 rabbits. The amounts of organic matter (OM) and CP reaching the caecum were increased on day 28 by 56% and 42% in the W21 rabbits compared with the W35 rabbits, respectively (P < 0.05), and were similar between groups on day 42. Starch ileal digestibility coefficients were 94·2% and 95·4% in 28- and 42-day-old rabbits, respectively, irrespective of the weaning age. The amount of starch flowing through the ileo-caecal junction was low and only tended to be higher on day 28 in the W21 group (0.20 v. 0.15 g/day in the W35 group, P = 0.10). The digestive balance pointed out that the digestible energy intake was similar between weaned and suckling rabbits from 23 to 27 days, a phenomenon partly explained by a high ability of the W21 rabbits to digest starch (98%) and NDF (36%). Indeed, the amounts of starch and NDF digested by the W21 group were 2.0- and 2.4-fold higher than those of the W35 rabbits at this period (P < 0.001). However, they ate 20% less digestible proteins than still-suckling rabbits (P < 0.001). From 38 till 42 days, only a lower ability of the W21 rabbits to digest lipids was detected (P < 0.05). In conclusion, early-weaned rabbits were able to adapt quickly to digest large amounts of starch and fibres.  相似文献

The aim of present work was to analyze the body reserves and ovarian features of lactating primiparous rabbit does under extensive reproductive management (artificial insemination (AI) at 25 days post-partum (dpp)) compared with the common insemination rhythm at 11 dpp. A total of 48 primiparous Californian×New Zealand White rabbit does suckling 8 kits were used to assess liveweight, estimated body composition, serum metabolic and endocrine parameters (oestradiol and progesterone concentrations) and ovarian features like follicle population and atresia rate, and oocyte maturation. Rabbit does were randomly allocated in two experimental groups: (a) lactating does euthanized at early post-partum period (11 dpp) according to a semi-intensive rhythm (n=24), and (b) lactating does euthanized at later post-partum period (25 dpp) according to a more extensive rhythm (n=24). Liveweight, body energy content, lipid depots and serum non-esterified fatty acids (NEFA) concentrations decreased from parturition to post-partum period (P<0.05). In addition, serum protein and glucose concentrations increased in the post-partum period (P<0.05). Similar oestradiol and progesterone levels were found in rhythms as well as similar follicle population and nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation rates measured as metaphase II and cortical granule migration, respectively in both post-partum times. However, the number of preovulatory follicles on the ovarian surface was lower (P<0.05) and the atresia rate tended to be higher with a lower percentage of healthy follicles (P<0.1) in ovaries from females of extensive group. In conclusion, the body reserves, serum metabolic parameters and oocyte quality of primiparous non-weaned rabbits does at the late post-partum time (25 days) were not improved. Thus this reproductive management did not present any advantages compared to earlier post-partum (11 days) reproductive rhythm.  相似文献

Reproductive protocols based on standard (Control: 11 days post-partum) or extended rhythm (PW: post-weaning at 27 days post-partum) were compared. Two groups of fifty 19-week-old New Zealand White females were inseminated for seven consecutive cycles. The kits were weaned at 26 days. On the day of AI, all the does were submitted to ultrasound scanning of the perirenal regions to measure fat thickness. The fertility rate and several indexes of efficiency were calculated. Fat thickness, estimated perirenal fat and live weight were higher in PW does. The does submitted to post-weaning rhythm had a higher sexual receptivity (P < 0.01), and fertility rate (P < 0.01) whereas litter size and pre-weaning mortality were not affected. Primiparous Control does showed a particularly low fertility rate; the value increased successively but was always lower than in PW does. PW rhythm in comparison with the standard one seemed more adapted to doe reproductive physiology even if there was a lower production (35.0 vs. 38.8 rabbit sold/year) and risk of fatness (18% of multiparous does).  相似文献

Twelve Hereford x Angus heifers, 2.5 year, 492 +/- 17 kg (BCS = 5 +/- 0.5), were randomly assigned to one of three supplements, stratified by calving date and calf sex. Treatments consisted of a daily equivalent of: (1) low undegradable intake protein (UIP) (L: 908 g per cow per day; 36% CP, 108 g UIP), (2) middle UIP (M: 908 g per cow per day; 36% CP, 165 g UIP), and (3) high UIP (H: 908 g M + 243 g feather meal per cow per day; 46% CP, 335 g UIP). Cows were fed sudan grass hay (7.3% CP, as fed) daily at 2% BW (as fed). Supplement was individually fed twice weekly from Week 2 to Week 11 post-partum. Cow body weight (BW), backfat (BF) and rumpfat (RF) thicknesses decreased in all cows, (P < 0.05) yet did not differ among treatments (P > 0.10). There were no differences among treatments in calf BW (P > 0.10). Serum insulin, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), milk components and yield did not differ among treatments (P > 0.10). Area under the curve (AUC) for serum LH was greater (P = 0.07) in H versus L and M (809 versus 599 and 607 +/- 69 U, respectively). No differences were observed in FSH AUC or mean serum concentrations (P > 0.10). Uterine pH did not differ among treatments or between supplement versus non-supplement days (P > 0.10). Serum progesterone remained below I ng/ml for all cows indicating absence of return to estrus. Under the conditions of this study, BW, BF, RF, serum insulin, BUN, milk components, and yield, uterine pH and serum FSH were not affected by level of UIP. However, supplement containing high levels of UIP enhanced GnRH-induced LH release.  相似文献

In the dual purpose milk/beef production system practised in Mexico, the cows are milked once a day in the presence of the calf and then the calf suckles for the next 1-8 h. It was hypothesised that the imposition of milking and suckling in close succession contributes to the long postpartum anoestrous periods experienced by cows in this system. Therefore, separating these two inhibiting factors, by delaying the start of suckling after milking would lower the impact on the hypothalamus-hypophysial axis and allow it to recover more readily. This hypothesis was tested in two experiments using Bostaurus x Bosindicus cows which weighed 541.3 +/- 12.7 kg (mean +/- S.E.M.; experiment 1) and 537.8 +/- 10.6 kg (experiment 2) and had a body condition score of 5-6 (scale 1-9) at calving. The cows and calves were maintained on separate pastures and the cows were offered concentrate supplements. Experiment 1 was conducted in the dry season and cows were offered a daily supplement of 3 kg of 17% crude protein (CP) concentrates plus 1 kg molasses per cow. Experiment 2 was conducted during the wet season and the nutritional supplement consisted of only 1 kg of 17% CP plus 1 kg molasses per cow per day. Each experiment lasted for the first 100 days postpartum and the cows were not mated during this time. Cows were hand-milked once a day in the presence of the calf to stimulate milk let-down. In experiment 1, 30 multiparous cows were assigned at random by date of calving, to one of three treatments: controlled suckling (CS; n = 10), delayed suckling (DS; n = 10) and prolonged delayed suckling (PDS; n = 10). The suckling period on all treatments lasted for 2 h and started at 0 h (CS), 4 h (DS) or 8 h (PDS) after milking. In experiment, 34 multiparous cows were assigned at random to three treatments: CS (n = 11), PDS (n = 11) or prolonged delayed short suckling (PDSS; n = 12), in this last treatment the suckling period was reduced to only 30 min. In both experiments, one quarter of the udder of cows on treatment CS was not milked but all the udder was milked on the other treatments. Body weights of cows and calves and cow milk yields were recorded. Weekly blood samples were collected for plasma progesterone assay to detect the first postpartum corpus luteum. Data were analysed by ANOVA and chi-square test. Cows in experiment 1 had similar weight changes during the first 100 days postpartum. Milk production was higher for DS (8.0 +/- 0.7 kg per day) and PDS (7.0 +/- 0.5 kg per day) cows than for CS (5.2 +/- 0.7 kg per day) cows (P < 0.01). Calf daily gain was greater (P < 0.05) for PDS (827 +/- 35 g per day), than CS (702 +/- 26 g per day) or DS (715 +/- 29 g per day). The proportion of cows ovulating during the first 100 days postpartum were 50.0, 70.0 and 100.0%, for CS, DS and PDS, respectively (P < 0.05). The intervals from calving to first significant rise in progesterone were 70.4 +/- 1.6, 72.1 +/- 1.3 and 64.6 +/- 1.5 days for CS, DS and PDS (P > 0.05), respectively. In experiment 2, cow body weight during the first 100 days postpartum did not differ between treatments. Milk production was not significantly different between CS (7.3 +/- 1.0 kg per day) and PDSS (6.8 +/- 1.0 kg per day), but was higher (P < 0.05) for CS than PDS (5.2 +/- 1.0 kg per day). Calf daily gain was lower for CS (576 +/- 31 g per day; P < 0.05) than PDS (779 +/- 38 g per day) and PDSS (780 +/- 20 g per day). The proportion of cows ovulating was higher (P < 0.05) for treatments PDS (100%) and CS (81.8%) than PDSS (50%). Calving to first ovulation interval was shorter (P < 0.05) for PDS (57.3 +/- 4.5 days) and PDSS (49.7 +/- 3.0 days) cows than CS (72.1 +/- 3.5 days) cows. It is concluded that delaying suckling for 8 h after milking, increases the proportion of cows ovulating within 100 days of calving, shortened the calving to first ovulation interval and improved calf performance without adversely affecting cow milk yield or body weight change.  相似文献

An experiment examined the effect of restricted feeding during early gestation on later feed intake and on kindling performance in young rabbit does. Nulliparous rabbit does (n=94) were inseminated at 14.5 weeks of age. During the first 10 days of gestation, does were fed individually either to appetite (AL) or 1.35 times maintenance requirement (R). After 10 days of gestation, all animals were fed to appetite. Does were weighed at insemination and after kindling. Feed intake was recorded during the first 10 days of gestation and weekly, thereafter. The number of does that kindled, number of live and stillborn kits and litter weight was recorded. The experiment ended after kindling. During feed restriction, AL does consumed 70 g/day more on an average than R does (209 and 139+/-4 g for AL and R, respectively; P<0.001). In the first and second week after feed restriction, compensatory feed intake occurred. Restrictive fed does ate more than AL does (+34+/-5 g/day from days 11 to 17 of gestation; P<0.001; +17+/-6g/day from days 18 to 24 of gestation; P<0.05). In the last week of gestation, feed intake of AL and R was comparable (89 and 100+/-5 g, respectively). At kindling, AL does had consumed 8+/-3g/day more feed over the total gestation period than R does (P<0.04). Feeding level during early gestation neither affected the kindling rate (83%), total litter size (7.9+/-0.4) nor the number of does with stillborn kits (10 versus 9 for AL and R, respectively). Regardless of treatment, in the last week of gestation (days 25-32) the number of does with stillbirth was lower and average birth weight was higher (P<0.01) in does eating more than the average daily feed intake compared to does eating below average. Based on the results of this study it was concluded that feed restriction for 10 days in early gestation does not affect kindling performance of young does, but feed intake in the last week of gestation affects kit survival and birth weight.  相似文献

Measurements were performed during lactation weeks 1?–?4, each week with 3 dams with each litter size. Milk intake was determined over a 48?h measurement period, and by the end of this milk samples were collected and 2 kits (litters of 6 and 9) or 1 kit per litter (litters of 3) were killed for body chemical composition. Based on the results, different models were applied for calculation of the energetic efficiency of milk. Dam milk yield increased steadily from week 1 until week 3 but only slightly from week 3 to 4. The increase declined with increasing litter size, and for dams suckling 9 kits the increment from week 3 to week 4 was only 2?g. The dry matter content of milk increased significantly as lactation progressed, being reflected in crude protein increasing from 6.9% in lactation week 1 to 8.1% in week 4. Milk fat increased concomitantly from 5.6% to 8.0%. In kit bodies, crude protein content increased from 9.4% in week 1 to about 12% in weeks 3 and 4. Body fat content increased from week 1 (4.1%) to week 3 (8.4%) and then declined in week 4 (7.1%). Animals suckled in litters of 3 kits had the highest milk intake and live weight and kits suckled in litters of 9 had the lowest milk intake, live weight and daily gain. In terms of milk intake per g gain kits in litters of 6 were the most efficient, with 4.1?g milk per g body gain. The metabolizable energy requirement for maintenance (MEm) was estimated to 448 kJ/kg0.75 and the efficiency of utilization of ME for body gain (kg) to 0.67, the estimates being higher (MEm) or in good agreement with previous findings (kg) in suckling mink kits.  相似文献

Body fat content increased from week 1 (4.1%) to week 3 (8.4%) and then declined in week 4 (7.1%). Animals suckled in litters of 3 kits had the highest milk intake and live weight and kits suckled in litters of 9 had the lowest milk intake, live weight and daily gain. In terms of milk intake per g gain kits in litters of 6 were the most efficient, with 4.1 g milk per g body gain. The metabolizable energy requirement for maintenance (MEm) was estimated to 448 kJ/kg(0.75 and the efficiency of utilization of ME for body gain (kg) to 0.67, the estimates being higher (MEm) or in good agreement with previous findings (kg) in suckling mink kits.  相似文献

Energy intake and milk production were measured in 12 mink dams raising litters of 3, 6 and 9 kits one to four weeks post partum by means of balance experiments and measurements of milk intake of the kits by the water isotope dilution technique. The dams were fed ad libitum on a conventional wet mink diet (DM: 323 g/kg; CP: 173 g/kg; ME: 4.4 MJ/kg). Milk samples collected from dams with corresponding litter sizes and lactation weeks, and body composition of kits nursed by these dams, were analysed for content of DM, ash, N and fat. The ME and drinking water consumption were higher in dams nursing 9 kits than in dams nursing 3 kits. The N and water balances as well as the live weight of dams were not affected by litter size. Daily milk production was higher in dams nursing 9 kits than in dams nursing 3 kits. The DM, N and fat content of the milk increased during lactation, but were not affected by litter size. Individual kit live weight was higher in litters of 3 than in litters of 6 and 9 kits four weeks post partum. The DM and fat content of the kits were lowest in kits from litters of 9 kits, whereas these kits had the highest protein content. Daily ME for maintenance of kits and the efficiency of utilisation of ME in milk for body gain were estimated to 356 kJ/kg0.75, kp ≈0.53 and kf ≈0.71, respectively. In conclusion, daily milk production increased with increasing litter size, but not in proportion to the number of kits, indicating that milk production limits the growth rate of the young. In the fourth week of lactation, milk production was not different between dams nursing 6 or 9 kits, indicating a maximum capacity.  相似文献

Using autumn-lambing ewes, this study investigated (i) the effects of diet on gonadotrophin secretion and responsiveness of the hypothalamic-pituitary-ovarian axis to exogenous GnRH during the early post-partum period; and (ii) whether ovulation prior to completion of uterine involution results in an increased incidence of aberrant ovarian cycles. Thirty-two ewes rearing 1.9+/-0.12 lambs were equally allocated to two dietary treatments at lambing (22 October +/-0.2 day). Diets comprised ad libitum hay and 1.5 kg per ewe per day of one of two concentrates (11.5 MJ ME, 195 g CP per kg) containing 300 g kg(-1) cracked maize grain (M) or 300 g kg(-1) sugar beet pellets (S). Half of the ewes on each diet (G) received 25 i.v. injections of 250 ng GnRH in 2 ml 0.9% saline at 2 h intervals from days 12-14 post-partum while remaining ewes (N) were monitored for the resumption of spontaneous ovarian cyclicity. Blood samples were obtained from all ewes throughout the study (lambing to 18 December) for measurement of circulating hormone concentrations and the uteri and ovaries of all ewes were examined via laparoscopy on day 21 post-partum. There were no effects of dietary treatment on ewe daily live weight loss, lamb daily live weight gain or the immediate post-partum increase in circulating FSH concentrations. Diet did not affect insulin concentrations or LH pulse frequency on day 12 post-partum but LH pulse amplitude was lower in ewes fed concentrate M compared to concentrate S (1.4+/-0.10 versus 1.7+/-0.12 ng ml(-1), respectively, P<0.05) and this was associated with an increased interval to the resumption of spontaneous ovarian cycles (35+/-3.1 versus 26+/-2.1 day, respectively, P<0.05). Administration of exogenous GnRH increased (P<0.05) the proportion of ewes on both diets that ovulated within 20 days of parturition and advanced the onset of ovarian cyclicity in ewes fed concentrate M by 9.5 days (significance of interaction, P<0.05). Four ewes, all of which ovulated before day 22 post-partum, had extended luteal activity while in remaining ewes, duration of the first luteal phase was inversely related to the time of first ovulation (r(2)=0.16, P<0.05). Results demonstrate that (i) the onset of ovarian cyclicity is influenced by diet and can be advanced by administration of exogenous GnRH; and (ii) ovulation during the early post-partum period is associated with an increased incidence of extended luteal activity.  相似文献

Hypothermia is considered a major risk factor increasing kit mortality in farmed mink. We studied the effects of reheating chilled mink kits. From each of 27 litters, three 1-day-old kits were exposed to one of three treatments: (i) chilling and reheating in a farm incubator (INCU), (ii) chilling and reheating in home nest (HOME), and (iii) control, remained in nest (NEST). During cold exposure (8 °C) mink kits were active in average 67% of the time before they turned inactive; the latency until inactivity averaged 12.3 (0.8) min. We suggest that kit behaviour during early cooling may function to increase chances of eliciting maternal care, and we found that duration of kit activity increased with body weight in 1-day-old kits (P < 0.001). In addition, the most active kits had a shorter latency of coming inactive (P = 0.002), suggesting that the behaviour is energy costly. The kit mortality was low (5 out of 81), making statistical analysis of mortality infeasible. We found no treatment effects on weight gain over 7 days. We did not find any additional effect of the traditional incubator used in reheating chilled 1-day-old mink kits, as the dam in the home nest appeared as efficient to reheat a small chilled kit.  相似文献

An experiment was conducted in order to evaluate the effects of gestational undernutrition of rabbit does on growth, carcass composition and meat quality of the offsprings. Thirty primiparous non lactating rabbit does were artificially inseminated and randomly divided in three treatment groups: Control (C; fed to 100% of maintenance requirements throughout gestation, n = 10), early undernourished (EU; fed to 50% of maintenance requirements during days 7–19 of gestation, n = 10) and late undernourished (LU; fed to 50% of maintenance requirements during days 20-27 of gestation, n = 10). During the 4th week of the gestation period, LU does significantly lost weight compared to C and EU groups (P<0.05). At kindling, C does produced litters with higher proportions of stillborn kits (P<0.05) while the total litter size (alive and stillborn kits) was not different among groups (10.7, 12.8 and 12.7 kits in C, EU and LU groups, respectively). Kit birth weight tended to be lower in the LU group. During fattening, body weight and feed intake were not different among offsprings of the three experimental groups. Moreover, the maternal undernutrition did not have any impact on carcass composition of the offsprings in terms of carcass parts and internal organs weights as well as meat quality of L. lumborum muscle (pH24, colour, water holding capacity and shear values) at slaughter (70 days of age). Therefore, it can be concluded that the gestational undernutrition of the mother does not have detrimental effects on the productive and quality traits of the offsprings.  相似文献

To evaluate how rearing programmes could affect resources allocation and reproductive performance of primiparous rabbit females, a total of 118 rabbit females were used to evaluate the effects of five rearing feeding programmes on their performance from 1st to 2nd parturition: CAL, fed ad libitum C diet (11.0 MJ digestible energy (DE), 114 g digestible protein (DP) and 358 g NDF/kg dry matter (DM) until 1st parturition; CR, fed ad libitum with C diet until 12 weeks of age and then C diet restricted (140 g/day) until 1st parturition; F, fed ad libitum with F diet (8.7 MJ DE, 88 g DP and 476 NDF/kg DM) until 1st parturition; FC, fed with F diet ad libitum until 16 weeks of age, and C diet ad libitum until 1st parturition; FCF, fed with F diet ad libitum until 16 weeks of age, then C diet ad libitum until 20 weeks and then F diet ad libitum until 1st parturition. From 1st parturition, C diet was ad libitum offered to all the experimental groups until 2nd parturition. CAL females presented lower feed intake than females of F, FC and FCF groups in the 1st week of lactation (on av. −16.6%; P<0.05). During 1st lactation, the perirenal fat thickness change in CAL females was not different from 0 (+0.02 mm), while in the other four groups it increased (on av. +0.44 mm; P<0.05). Plasma of females fed with F diet during rearing (F, FC and FCF) had lower non-esterified fatty acids content than those exclusively fed with C diet (–0.088 and –0.072 mmol/l compared to CAL and CR, respectively; P<0.05). FCF litters had higher weight than F litters at day 21 of lactation (+247 g; P<0.05), but FCF litter had significantly lower weight than FC litters at weaning (+170 g; P<0.05). CR females had the shortest average interval between the 1st and 2nd parturition (49 days) and FCF females the longest (+ 9 days compared to CR; P<0.05). At 2nd parturition, liveborn litters of F females were larger and heavier than litters of FCF females (+2.22 kits and +138 g; P<0.05), probably due to the lower mortality at birth of F litters (–16.5 percentage points; P<0.05). In conclusion, rearing females on fibrous diets seems to increase the ability of primiparous rabbit females to obtain resources, especially at the onset of lactation.  相似文献

The effects of obesity and a high-fat (HF) diet on whole body and tissue-specific metabolism of lactating dams and their offspring were examined in C57/B6 mice. Female mice were fed low-fat (LF) or HF diets before and throughout pregnancy and lactation. HF-fed mice were segregated into lean (HF-Ln) and obese (HF-Ob) groups before pregnancy by their weight gain response. Compared to LF-Ln dams, HF-Ln, and HF-Ob dams exhibited a greater positive energy balance (EB) and increased dietary fat retention in peripheral tissues (P < 0.05). HF-Ob dams had greater dietary fat retention in liver and adipose compared to HF-Ln dams (P < 0.05). De novo synthesized fat was decreased in tissues and milk from HF-fed dams compared to LF-Ln dams (P < 0.05). However, less dietary and de novo synthesized fat was found in the HF-Ob mammary glands compared to HF-Ln (P < 0.05). Obesity was associated with reduced milk triglycerides relative to lean controls (P < 0.05). Compared to HF diet alone obesity has additional adverse affects, impairing both lipid metabolism as well as milk fat production. Growth rates of LF-Ln litters were lower than HF-Ln and HF-Ob litters (P < 0.05). Total energy expenditure (TEE) of HF-Ob litters was reduced relative to HF-Ln litters, whereas their respiratory exchange ratios (RERs) were increased (P < 0.05). Collectively these data show that consumption of a HF diet significantly affects maternal and neonatal metabolism and that maternal obesity can independently alter these responses.  相似文献
