Summary Rates of nitrification of ammonium sulphate in an acid red yellow podzolic tea soil in Sri Lanka with and without the addition of commercial potassium choride (95% KCl) and analytical grade KCl was studied under field conditions and in a laboratory incubation experiment. Addition of KCl effectively suppressed nitrification and this suppression was found to be due to the presence of Cl-ions rather than K-ions.  相似文献

Morphological examination and PCR-RFLP analysis of the D1/D2 region in nuclear LSU rDNA were carried out to identify a rust fungus onPinus pumila collected in the North Kurils, Russia. Morphologically, the rust from the North Kurils was similar toPeridermium kurilense andEndocronartium sahoanum var.hokkaidoense in the spore surface structure, dimension and shape. In the RFLPs of the D1/D2 region it was identical toE. sahoanum var.hokkaidoense andE. sahoanum var.sahoanum, but distinct fromCronartium ribicola. Therefore, the rust fungus onP. pumila collected in the North Kurils was identified asE. sahoanum var.hokkaidoense. Summary A study has been made of microbial processes in the oxidation of pyrite in aicd sulphate soil material. Such soils are formed during aeration of marine muds rich in pyrite (FeS2). Bacteria of the type ofThiobacillus ferrooxidans are mainly responsible for the oxidation of pyrite, causing a pronounced acidification of the soil. However, becauseThiobacillus ferrooxidans functions optimally at pH values bellow 4.0, its activity cannot explain the initial pH drop from approximately neutral to about 4. This was shown to be a non-biological process, in which bacteria play an insignificant part. AlthoughThiobacillus thioparus andThiobacillus thiooxidans were isolated from the acidifying soil, they did not stimulate oxidation of FeS2, but utilized reduced sulphur compounds, which are formed during the non-biological oxidation of FeS2.Ethylene-oxide-sterilized and dry-sterilized soil inoculated with pure cultures of mixtures of various thiobacilli or with freshly sampled acid sulphate soil soil did not acidify faster than sterile blanks.Thiobacillus thiooxians. Thiobacillus thioparus. Thiobacillus intermedius andThiobacillus perometabolis increased from about 104 to 105 cells/ml in media with FeS2 as energy source. However, FeS2 oxidation in the inoculated media was not faster than in sterile blanks.Attempts to isolate microorganisms other thanThiobacillus ferrooxidans, like metallogenium orLeptospirillum ferrooxidans, which might also be involved in the oxidation of FeS2 were not successful.Addition of CaCO3 to the soil prevented acidification but did not stop non-biological oxidation of FeS2.  相似文献

The geographical variation of terpenes of Pinus nigra populations from southwestern Europe was studied. Terpenes from the foliage of 16 populations from Corsica, Herault (France) and the East Pyrenees (France and Spain) were analyzed. A total of 42 terpenes were detected, with -pinene the dominant monoterpene and germacrene-d and caryophyllene the dominant sesquiterpenes. The differences in quantitative content of selected compounds clearly divide populations into two basic geographical groups: on one side the populations from Herault and the East Pyrenees and on the other the populations from Corsica. -Phellandrene and -cadinene have the greatest influence on this global discrimination. Some trees and populations show a similarity although they belong to different geographic locations. The similarity of some trees from Herault and the East Pyrenees and trees from Corsica points to their common origin (Corsica). Our results confirm the hypothesis that the afforestation of Herault and the East Pyrenees was also performed with black pine from Corsica.  相似文献

Flowers from two Eucalyptus camaldulensis trees in the Qutur area and one tree from the Tanta area yielded three isolates of Cryptococcus neoformans var. gattii. Pigeon and sparrow droppings were also investigated for the occurrence of C. neoformans within the study area. Ninety five isolates of the neoformans variety of C. neoformans were recovered from 550 samples of avian droppings. Three heathand species, Antennaria dioica, Arnica montana and Hieracium pilosella, were artificially rained with ammonium sulphate solutions at increasing concentrations in a greenhouse experiment. The same species were also artificially rained with increasing ammonium sulphate solutions under field conditions. Dry weights of the plants in the field experiments did not change with increasing ammonium sulphate applications. Nor did the dry weights of plants in the greenhouse experiments change with increasing ammonium sulphate concentrations, except for Arnica montana, which showed an increase in dry weight. VAM infection percentage of Antennaria dioica increased in both the greenhouse and the field experiment. The results of the field experiment show that VAM infection rates are reduced after two years of artificial rain in the plant species Arnica montana, which grows naturally under nutrient poor conditions and is presently declining in its natural habitat in the Netherlands. In the greenhouse experiment, VAM infection of Arnica montana did not change with increasing ammonium sulphate concentrations. VAM infection rates of Hieracium pilosella, which presently is not declining, did not change with increasing ammonium sulphate concentrations.  相似文献

以内蒙古大兴安林樟子松分布区较典型的6个乡土菌种与本实验室从法国引进的宿主范围较广的2个菌种及内蒙古地区分布广泛的土生空团菌为研究对象,采用固体和液体两种菌剂类型,对出苗30d左右的樟子松实生苗进行外生菌根菌接种试验,接种130d后观察菌根侵染情况及生长特性,同时对菌根化的樟子松苗木进行自然干旱胁迫,研究外生菌根菌接种对樟子松苗木生长及抗逆性的影响。结果显示:(1)5个乡土菌种和1个法国引进菌种均能够与樟子松实生苗共生菌根,菌根化苗木较对照的苗高增长10.5%~111.4%、地茎增长4.55%~92.8%、苗木干重增加6.8%~184.5%,且固体菌剂效果优于液体菌剂。(2)在干旱胁迫下,菌根化苗木叶绿素含量较对照增加5.82%~36.92%、净光合速率提高120.2%~217.03%,叶片推迟10.3~25h出现萎蔫,临界致死时间推迟13.8~38.2h。(3)接种菌种厚环乳牛肝菌和点柄乳牛肝菌的苗木菌根侵染率、苗木生长量、干旱胁迫下各项生理指标均显著优于其他菌种和对照。研究表明,樟子松实生苗菌根化对苗木生长有明显的促进作用,能够提高苗木对干旱胁迫的抵御能力;厚环乳牛肝菌和点柄乳牛肝菌是有潜在研究和应用价值的优良菌株,这两个菌株的固体菌剂可用于樟子松菌苗生产。  相似文献

Summary Embryogenic callus cultures of European black pine (Pinus nigra Arn.) were established on megagametophytes containing zygotic embryos in early developmental stage. In addition to many elongated cells and disorganized growing clumps they contained early somatic embryos at various stages of development. At all stages of embryogenesis the embryos were organized as bipolar structures. Cell pairs composed of one isodiametric cell with dense cytoplasm and a second large vacuolated cell were the simplest bipolar system. The vacuolated cell underwent senescence. The cytoplasm-rich cell and its derivates divided transversally, resulting in several cytoplasmic cells arranged in row. An early embryonal cylindrical mass was formed by longitudinal division of the cells in a filament. Proximally localized cells in the early embryonal mass became vacuolized and elongated gradually giving rise to the secondary suspensor. Distal cells remained cytoplasmic in character and formed an embryonal mass along the axis of long early somatic embryos. Differences in the proportion of organelles and heterochromatin clumps, thickness of cell walls and number of plasmodesmata between cells at various stages of early somatic embryogenesis were described.  相似文献

Summary Chemical analysis of samples of needles of Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), humus and mineral soil collected in the vicinity of the Pb-smelter in Lavrion, Attica, showed that an area of about 2 km around the smelter is heavily polluted primarily with Pb and also with Zn, S and F. Most of the Pb was found accumulated in the humus and the top layer of the mineral soil.About 50% of the Pb found in the samples of Aleppo pine needles could be removed by washing them in a dilute detergent solution. One and 15% of the total Pb from Pb-polluted soil and humus samples, respectively, was extracted with normal ammonium acetate solution. No Pb or a very small amount was extracted with distilled H2O from humus and soil samples treated with concentrations of Pb as high as 3000 ppm and incubated in the laboratory for 30 days.Humus samples treated with up to 1500 ppm Pb or Pb-polluted humus samples collected from points leeward of the smelter had no adverse effects on the germination of Aleppo pine seeds. When the germination experiment was conducted on Pb-polluted humus samples from points windward of the smelter, where a temporary pine needle death had been observed, the percentage seed germination, for two years, was found reduced and negatively correlated to the distance of the humus sampling point from the Pb-smelter.In nursery experiments Pb concentrations of up to 2000 ppm, added to a calcareous soil, had no adverse effect on height increase of Aleppo pine seedlings. Very little Pb was transported from the roots to the needles after seven months growth of the seedlings on either Pb-amended soil or on Pb-polluted soil from Lavrion. Concentrations of Pb in the roots of the seedlings, however, were found high in both cases and almost proportional to concentrations of Pb in the soil.  相似文献

The borderlands between three species of macaques,Macaca nigra, M. nigrescens, andM. hecki, which live on the northern peninsula of Sulawesi were surveyed mainly via observations of pet monkeys kept by local people. The borderlands between these species could be delineated. Some monkeys of peculiar appearance and/or with mixtures of the external characteristics of two species were found in the borderlands between the respective pairs of species. However, such possibly hybrid monkeys were seen or originated only in the very limited areas where the species might come into contact with each other.  相似文献

Summary Severe dieback observed inP. radiata D. Don plantations during dry years in Southeastern Australia was found to be due to boron deficiency. Borax applied in spring (August 1982) at rates of 50, 100 and 150 kg ha–1 resulted in a marked increase in foliar B and an alleviation of B deficiency symptoms. During the dry summer following the application of borax no further dieback was observed and height growth of fertilized trees was significantly improved. Correction of B deficiency enhanced the uptake of P by the trees.  相似文献

Summary Trees of a highland provenance ofPinus caribaea var.hondurensis Barr. and Golf. in an unhealthy stand on Melville Is., Australia displaying symptoms of needleless shoots, short needles, premature needle fall, resin exudation from the stem, fasciation of the stem tip tip dieback and multiple leadering were markedly improved by the application of Zn. Morphological and molecular variations in Plantago asiatica L. var. densiuscula Pilg. were analyzed to evaluate the genetic basis for recognizing the dwarf variety P. asiatica var. yakusimensis (Masam.) Ohwi. Considerable variation in the leaf size of P. asiatica var. densiuscula was observed, and no morphological discontinuities were found between the dwarf types of P. asiatica var. densiuscula and P. asiatica var. yakusimensis. Morphological analysis of plants grown under standardized conditions revealed that both environmental plasticity and genetic differentiation contributed to the dwarfisms. Molecular phylogenetic analysis of rDNA internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and the SUC1 locus encoding a sucrose transporter revealed that P. asiatica var. yakusimensis was genetically unique although the differentiation level was low. From the above results, we concluded that P. asiatica var. yakusimensis should be reduced to a form of P. asiatica var. densiuscula. Furthermore, the geographic distribution of the SUC1 genotype suggested multiple origins of dwarves, and possible hypotheses for the origins of dwarves are discussed.  相似文献

Seasonal courses of leaf CO2 gas exchange in a growing season were examined in saplings ofThujopsis dolabrata var.hondai andQuercus mongolica var.grosseserrata in a cool temperate deciduous forest. Between the two tree species there were no large differences in the light compensation point of leaf photosynthesis, except for the season of new leaf expansion. However, light-saturated rates of net photosynthesis were obviously high inT. dolabrata var.hondai. EvergreenT. dolabrata var.hondai saplings had large photosynthetic production in two seasons, before the emergence of new foliage and after foliage fall of the overstory deciduous trees, because of the significantly high solar radiant energy penetrating under the forest canopy during the seasons. Saplings of deciduousQ. mongolica var.grosseserrata were heavily shaded throughout the growing season by foliage of the overstory trees, which resulted in a low daily surplus production. The annual surplus production of leaves in the growing season was estimated to be 2300 mmol CO2 m−2 inT. dolabrata var.hondai and −100 mmol CO2 m−2, slightly negative, inQ. mongolica var.grosseserrata. These results supported the high survivability ofT. dolabrata var.hondai saplings and the high mortality ofQ. mongolica var.grosseserrata in the deciduous forest.  相似文献

以云南省普洱市思茅松人工林中14a龄林为研究对象,对5种造林密度(1m×1m、1.5m×1.5m、2m×1m、2m×2m、2m×3m)的思茅松人工林的林分特征及其根系生物量空间分布进行调查分析,以明确林分密度对思茅松人工林细根生物量空间分布的影响,为思茅松人工林经营管理提供理论依据。结果表明:(1)树高和胸径随着林分密度的减少呈增大趋势,而生物量呈减少趋势。(2)14a思茅松人工林的细根生物量随林分密度的增大而减少,单株细根生物量随林分密度的减小而增大,但粗根与死根生物量在5个林分密度之间无显著差异。(3)细根生物量主要分布在土壤上层,其中40.21%~54.73%的细根集中在0~10cm土壤深度,不同林分密度的细根生物量随土层深度的增加而减少的趋势较为明显,随着林分密度的减小,土壤上层的细根生物量比例呈先增加后减少的趋势。(4)林分密度和土壤深度对细根生物量有显著影响,而且乔木个体大小差异与细根生物量具有极显著的负相关关系,而单株细根生物量与林分密度、乔木个体大小差异、地下生物量及胸高断面积之间呈显著或极显著的负相关关系,而与树高和胸径之间呈显著正相关关系。  相似文献

Stable isotopes in tree rings have widely been used for palaeoclimate reconstructions since tree rings record climatic information at annual resolution. However, various wood components or different parts of an annual tree-ring may differ in their isotopic compositions. Thus, sample preparation and subsequent laboratory analysis are crucial for the isotopic signal retained in the final tree-ring isotope series used for climate reconstruction and must therefore be considered for the interpretation of isotope–climate relationships. This study focuses on wood of Corsican Pine trees (Pinus nigra ssp. laricio) as this tree species allows to reconstruct the long-term climate evolution in the western Mediterranean. In a pilot study, we concentrated on methodological issues of sample preparation techniques in order to evaluate isotope records measured on pooled whole tree-ring cellulose and whole tree-ring bulk wood samples. We analysed 80-year long carbon and oxygen chronologies of Corsican Pine trees growing near the upper tree line on Corsica. Carbon and oxygen isotope records of whole tree-ring bulk wood and whole tree-ring cellulose from a pooled sample of 5 trees were correlated with the climate parameters monthly precipitation, temperature and the self-calibrating Palmer Drought Severity Index (sc-PDSI). Results show that the offsets in carbon and oxygen isotopes of bulk wood and cellulose are not constant over time. Both isotopes correlate with climate parameters from late winter and summer. The carbon and oxygen isotope ratios of cellulose are more sensitive to climatic variables than those of bulk wood. The results of this study imply that extraction of cellulose is a pre-requisite for the reconstruction of high-resolution climate records from stable isotope series of P. nigra ssp. laricio.  相似文献

Summary The seasonal pattern and quantity of litterfall were studied during a two-year period in two unthinned stands ofPinus caribaea Morelet var. hondurensis Barr. and Golf. in Nigeria. Although pine needles were cast continuously throughout the year, the peak period of litterfall occurred in the dry months of March and April. Mean values of annual litterfall were 3068 and 3665 kg/ha in the two stands aged 7–9 and 9–11 years respectively. Nutrient returns in litterfall in the stands had mean values of 15.0, 0.6, 17.3, 18.2 and 6.3 kg/ha of N, P, K, Ca and Mg respectively. Comparatively low amounts of N and P returned in litterfall were attributed to soil deficiencies of the two elements.Measurements of ground litter showed considerable dry matter accumulation (11378 kg/ha) in the litter layers. Estimates of litter decomposition rate and recycling time showed that it would take 3 to 4 years for the organic matter in annual litterfall to decompose completely as contrasted to about 2 to 5 months often reported under mixed nautral savanna vegetation in the same climatic environment. Similar estimates of nutrient recycling time also showed that between 2 to 4 years were required to mineralize nutrient elements in the annual litterfall; the relative mobilities of the elements were in the order K>Mg>P>NCa.  相似文献

Wheat inoculated with the root pathogen Gaeumannomyces graminis var. tritici (Ggt) was grown in quartz silt at two levels of potassium nutrition. While in plants well supplied with K the incidence of Ggt did not affect plant growth, it reduced shoot and root weight of K deficient plants. Denitrification, measured by the acetylene inhibition technique and expressed as N2O/mg root weight, was increased either by low K nutrition or by Ggt infection. Highest denitrification in the rhizosphere of plants was found with a combination of both, K deficiency and Ggt attack.  相似文献

The causal agent of the mass mortality of field populations of Pinus armandii Franch. var. amamiana (Koidz.) Hatusima (PAA) was investigated with special respect to the involvement of pine wilt disease. Wood chips, branches and/or increment cores for detecting the pinewood nematode, feeding marks of the vector insect and environmental stress in the past, respectively, were taken from live and dead PAA trees grown in three locations, Yaku-shima and Tanega-shima Islands and a plantation in Kagoshima City, from 1997 to 1998. Five trees died after the spring of 1996 and, of these, four were inhabited by the pinewood nematode. Feeding marks of the vector insects were found on the branches of all dead trees and most of the live trees investigated. These results suggest that the infection of pine wilt disease in PAA trees occurs in the field. Annual ring growth of the sample trees showed neither intervention nor growth reduction, which implies strong environmental stress that may cause mortality in PAA trees.  相似文献

通过树木年代学方法,测定了毛乌素和塞罕坝相同密度樟子松(Pinus sylvestris var.mongolica)全木(Ringwood,RW)、早材(Earlywood,EW)和晚材(Latewood,LW)宽度,计算胸高断面积增量(Basal area increment,BAI),并建立了樟子松年轮宽度年表,分析其对气候响应的差异。结果显示,毛乌素(Mu Us)樟子松轮宽随树龄呈"升-降"的曲线变化,塞罕坝(Saihanba)呈线性下降,两地樟子松BAI变化相似,呈"升-降"的曲线变化,EW占RW的65%—70%,表明EW对RW贡献较大。生长期间,毛乌素樟子松早晚材比例保持平稳,塞罕坝EW/RW值下降,LW/RW值上升,两地干旱事件均使LW/RW值下降,EW/RW值上升。差值年表(Residual chronology,RES)相关性分析显示,毛乌素樟子松径向生长主要与4、7月平均降雨,7月标准化降水蒸散发指数(Standardized precipitation evapotranspiration index,SPEI),3、8月平均温度及上年12月和当年3月最低温度呈正...  相似文献
