When an evaporator condensate stream from a kraft pulp mill was treated by anaerobic methane fermentation, the stream could not ferment continuously. Therefore, after the raw evaporator condensate was treated by various procedures, the treated samples were tested in a batch fermentation system. There seemed to be an inhibitor, an oily material, and the evaporator condensate could be fermented easily, after removal of the oily material, in a bio-reactor packed with pumice stone. In continuous operation, the minimum hydraulic retention time was 0.64 days, the maximum volumetric BOD removal rate was 11.47 kg/m3/d, and the maximum gas production rate for the theoretical volume was 97%. The efficiency of a bio-reactor using pumice stone was studied. The pumice stone has a large number of connected pores. The major pore sizes are 20–100 μm. The cell density of the pumice stone used in the bio-reactor was 18–19 g per liter.  相似文献

Different start-up procedures of an upflow anaerobic sludge bed (UASB) digester were carried out. Start-up without inoculum (experiment A) was delayed for about 120 day. The digester reached 75-85% total suspended solids (TSS) removal, 54-58% total chemical oxygen demand (TCOD) removal and 63-73% biological oxygen demand (BOD5) removal at influent concentrations of 240-340 mg TCODil-1, temperatures of 13.5-15 degrees C and hydraulic retention times (HRT) of 10-11 h. Digested sludge was used as inoculum in experiment B. After the start-up period of 75 days, digester efficiencies were 58%, 41% and 54% for TSS, TCOD and BOD5 removal, respectively, working at 169 mg TCODil-1, temperature of 14 degrees C and HRT of 11 h. The sludge bed developed and stabilised quickly when using a hydraulically adapted inoculum (experiment C), but TCOD and BOD5 removals remained low and volatile fatty acids (VFA) accumulated in the effluent.  相似文献

In this study, combination of a partial nitritation reactor, using immobilized polyethylene glycol (PEG) gel carriers, and a continuous stirred granular anammox reactor was investigated for nitrogen removal from livestock manure digester liquor. Successful nitrite accumulation in the partial nitritation reactor was observed as the nitrite production rate reached 2.1 kg-N/m3/day under aerobic nitrogen loading rate of 3.8 kg-N/m3/day. Simultaneously, relatively high free ammonia concentrations (average 50 mg-NH3/l) depressed the activity of nitrite oxidizing bacteria with nitrate concentration never exceeding 3% of TN concentration in the effluent of the partial nitritation reactor (maximum 35.2 mg/l). High nitrogen removal rates were achieved in the granular anammox reactor with the highest removal rate being 3.12 kg-N/m3/day under anaerobic nitrogen loading rate of 4.1 kg-N/m3/day. Recalcitrant organic compounds in the digester liquor did not impair anammox reaction and the SS accumulation in the granular anammox reactor was minimal. The results of this study demonstrated that partial nitritation–anammox combination has the potential to successfully remove nitrogen from livestock manure digester liquor.  相似文献

This study demonstrated that partial nitritation using nitrifying activated sludge entrapped in a polyethylene glycol (PEG) gel carrier, as a pretreatment to anammox process, could be successfully applied to digester liquor of biogas plant at a nitrogen loading rate of 3.0 kg-N/m3/d. The nitritation process produced an effluent with a NO2–N/NH4–N ratio between 1.0 and 1.4, which was found to be suitable for the subsequent anammox process. A high SS concentration (2000–3000 mg/l) in the digester liquor did not affect partial nitritation treatment performances. Effluent from this partial nitritation reactor was successfully treated in the anammox reactor using anammox sludge entrapped in the PEG gel carrier with T-N removal rates of greater than 4.0 kg-N/m3/d. Influent BOD and SS contents did not inhibit anammox activity of the anammox gel carrier. The combination of partial nitritation and anammox reactors using PEG entrapped nitrifying and anammox bacteria was shown to be effective for the removal of high concentration ammonium in the digester liquor of a biogas plant.  相似文献

A novel reactor concept has been developed that combines Ca2+ removal and BOD conversion under mesophilic (30 °C ) as well as under thermophilic (55 °C ) conditions. Soluble Ca2+, present in many industrial wastewaters, precipitates as a result of forced aeration in the aerobic bioreactor. The CaCO3 precipitates, in turn, act as a carrier material for biofilm growth. This resulted in dense rapidly settling sludge granules covered with a biofilm on the surface. These sludge characteristics facilitate the application of hydraulic retention times of 1 h while maintaining a high biological activity in the reactor.  相似文献

In order to reduce the discharge of residual sludge from an anaerobic digester, pre-treatment methods including low-pressure wet-oxidation, Fenton oxidation, alkali treatment, ozone oxidation, mechanical destruction and enzymatic treatment were evaluated and compared. VSS removal efficiencies of greater than 50% were achieved in cases of low-pressure wet-oxidation, Fenton oxidation and alkali treatment. Residual sludge from an anaerobic digester was pre-treated and subjected to thermophilic anaerobic digestion. As a result, the process of low-pressure wet-oxidation followed by anaerobic digestion achieved the highest VSS removal efficiency of 83%. The total efficiency of VSS removal of sewage sludge consisting of primary and surplus sludge would be approximately 92%, assuming that the VSS removal efficiency of sewage sludge is 50% in the anaerobic digester of the sewage treatment plant.  相似文献

The goal of the study was to determine the effectiveness of nitrification and denitrification and the kinetics of ammonia removal from a mixture of wastewater and anaerobic sludge digester supernatant in an SBR at limited oxygen concentration. In addition, the COD removal efficiency and sludge production were assessed. In the SBR cycle alternating aerobic and anaerobic phases occurred; in the aeration phase the dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration was below 0.7 mg O2/L. The low DO concentration did not inhibit ammonia oxidation-nitrification and the efficiency was ca. 96-98%. However, a relatively high COD concentration in the effluent was detected. The values of Km and Vmax, calculated from the Michaelis-Menten equation, were 43 mg N-NH4/L and 15.64 mg N-NH4/L h, respectively. Activated sludge production was almost stable (0.62-0.66 g MLVSS/g COD). A high net biomass production resulted from a low specific biomass decay rate of 0.0015 d−1.  相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the chemical precipitation (CP) and membrane bioreactor (MBR) hybrid process for the treatment of piggery wastewater. Average removal efficiencies for BOD, COD and turbidity in CP process were 64.3%, 77.3% and 96.4%, respectively. CP process had a moderate effect on NH3–N removal (40.4%) which improved up to 98.2% mainly due to nitrification and filtration processes in MBR. The average removal efficiencies of BOD, COD and turbidity in MBR were 99.5%, 99.4% and 99.8%, respectively. Monod equation was used to explain the microbial activities in terms of specific growth rate. The specific growth rate of bacteria in aeration tank (N-batch) and anoxic tank (D-batch) were 0.013 and 0.005 d?1 with a biomass yield of 0.78 and 0.43 mg MLSS produced/mg COD utilized, respectively. Microorganisms from the N-batch and D-batch showed a low-level of nitrifying and moderate-level of denitrifying capabilities which were 1.08 mg NH3–N/(g MLVSS.h) and 2.82 mg NO3–N/(g MLVSS.h), respectively. Carbohydrates were the main component in extracellular polymeric substance (EPS) compounds that could be attached to the membrane surface easily and led to membrane biofouling. The increase of MLSS, EPS and sludge viscosity concentration, decrease of sludge floc size and incomplete chemical cleaning procedure resulted in the increase of membrane resistance. Total membrane resistance increased from 3.19 × 1012 m?1 to 5.43 × 1014 m?1.  相似文献

A reactor with an external pressure type ceramic membrane module was designed to complete a compact system which brings about a reduction of permeability power requirements. The applicability of the reactor to methane fermentation was examined using heat-treated liquor obtained from sewage sludge. The experiments were carried out at 3 steps of CODcr-loading (Run 1; 4.53, Run 2; 7.98, Run 3; 15.4 kg CODcr/m3·d). The permeation flux stabilized at 0.06 in Run 1 and 0.11 m3/m2·d in Run 2, where the membrane surface was backwashed with N2 gas. In Run 3, the membrane surface was additionally washed by circulating the gas yielded by the fermentation to increase the permeation flux, which stabilized at 0.2 m3/m2·d. The CODcr removal was 79.3 in Run 1, 83.2 in Run 2, and 80.2% in Run 3, respectively. In all cases, the BOD removal exceeded 95%, and there was no significant difference in the gas yield, which was 0.41 to 0.43 (l/g CODcr supplied) and 0.50 to 0.54 (l/g CODcr decomposed). Since the BOD could be greatly reduced even at 0.6 d of HRT and the microbiol cell concentration could be easily controlled, it seems possible to that the effciency of this reactor can be further improved.  相似文献

A fixed-bed loop, high-rate anaerobic bioreactor treating sulfite evaporator condensate was sampled when it reached steady state and afterwards following perturbations during a 14-month period. By using immunotechnology, it was observed that shifts in methanogenic subpopulations occurred in association with perturbations, such as restarting and relocating the biomass into a different tank. Methanogens related to Methanobacterium bryantii MoHG and Methanobrevibacter smithii ALI were numerous throughout the observation period, while Methanosarcina mazei S6 and Methanosarcina thermophila TM1 were found in the early and late samples, respectively. Also, Methanobacterium formicicum was more numerous at the top portion of the bioreactor, while Methanobrevibacter arboriphilus AZ and DC were at the bottom. Sample formalinization required for prolonged storage proved suitable for antigen preservation.  相似文献

Chlorinated guaiacols (4,5,6-trichloro-, 4,5-dichloro-, and 4-chloro-guaiacol) at 0.2 mM were completely degraded by anaerobic digester sludge within 4 d, but complete removal of TeCG could not be attained. The removal rates of chlorinated guaiacols by adsorption and biodegradation were in the following order: 4,5-dichloroguaiacol > 4-chloroguaiacol = 4,5,6-trichloroguaiacol > tetrachloroguaiacol. The most rapid initial TeCG degradation occurred in the glucose-supplemented cultures. However, the degradation rate of 4,5,6-TriCG was not increased significantly by supplementary glucose.  相似文献

This study investigated the feasibility and the treatment efficiency of a cyclic anoxic/aerobic two-stage MBR for treating polymeric industrial wastewater. The anoxic/aerobic hybrid MBR was operated without sludge withdrawal except sampling during the study. The results showed that the highest COD organic loading rate of 8.7 kg COD/m3 day from bioreactor was obtained at phase 3. The system achieved 97% BOD5 and 89% COD removal. It also revealed that 93% of COD removal was contributed by bioreactor at phase 3 and the similar results happened to phases 1 and 2. The highest TN and TKN removals for each phase were 60, 74, 80% and 61, 74, 81%, respectively and limited by nitritation step. SEM images of nascent and fouled membranes were offered to evaluate the cleaning method. The system was operated for 174 days, resulting in high degradation rate, flexibility towards influent fluctuations and limited sludge production.  相似文献

In this study, a single-stage autotrophic nitrogen removal reactor, packed with a novel acrylic fiber biomass carrier material (Biofix), was applied for nitrogen removal from sludge digester liquor. For rapid start-up, conventional activated sludge was added to the reactor soon after the attachment of anammox biomass on the Biofix carriers, which allowed conventional activated sludge to form a protective layer of biofilm around the anammox biomass. The Nitrogen removal efficiency reached 75% within 1 week at a nitrogen loading rate of 0.46 kg-N/m3/day for synthetic wastewater treatment. By the end of the synthetic wastewater treatment period, the maximum nitrogen removal rate had increased to 0.92 kg-N/m3/day at a nitrogen loading rate of 1.0 kg-N/m3/day. High nitrogen removal rate was also achieved during the actual raw digester liquor treatment with the highest nitrogen removal rate being 0.83 kg-N/m3/day at a nitrogen loading rate of 0.93 kg-N/m3/day. The thick biofilm on Biofix carriers allowed anammox bacteria to survive under high DO concentration of 5–6 mg/l resulting in stable and high nitrogen removal performance. FISH and CLSM analysis demonstrated that anammox bacteria coexisted and surrounded by ammonium oxidizing bacteria.  相似文献

A dual-tube dense-phase silicone rubber membrane bioreactor was investigated for control of cyclohexane-contaminated air as part of a jet propulsion (JP-8) fuel remediation investigation strategy. The reactor was seeded with a mixed bacterial consortium isolated from the water/fuel interface of a JP-8 jet fuel sample and activated sludge, capable of aromatic and cyclic compound biodegradation. Cyclohexane removal ranged from 1.1 to 28.6 mg L?1, with removal percentages ranging from 4.6% to 37.6%. Removal in the bioreactor ranged from 29.4 to 596.6 mg min?1 m?2 and measured elimination capacities ranged from 46.7 to 947.9 g m?3 h?1. Removal rates and elimination capacity increased with increasing biofilm growth and with increasing loading rates of cyclohexane. Loading rates ranged from 395.9 to 2189.5 mg min?1 m?2. Results of this study showed effective removal of cyclohexane using the membrane bioreactor, suggesting that this technology may have applicability for treating vapors contaminated with cyclic hydrocarbons.  相似文献

Anaerobic digesters have been responsible for the removal of large fraction of organic matter (mineralization of waste sludge) in conventional aerobic sewage treatment plants since the early years of domestic sewage treatment (DST). Attention on the anaerobic technology for improving the sustainability of sewage treatment has been paid mainly after the energy crisis in the 1970s. The successful use of anaerobic reactors (especially up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors) for the treatment of raw domestic sewage in tropical and sub-tropical regions (where ambient temperatures are not restrictive for anaerobic digestion) opened the opportunity to substitute the aerobic processes for the anaerobic technology in removal of the influent organic matter. Despite the success, effluents from anaerobic reactors treating domestic sewage require post-treatment in order to achieve the emission standards prevailing in most countries. Initially, the composition of this effluent rich in reduced compounds has required the adoption of post-treatment (mainly aerobic) systems able to remove the undesirable constituents. Currently, however, a wealth of information obtained on biological and physical-chemical processes related to the recovery or removal of nitrogen, phosphorus and sulfur compounds creates the opportunity for new treatment systems. The design of DST plant with the anaerobic reactor as core unit coupled to the pre- and post-treatment systems in order to promote the recovery of resources and the polishing of effluent quality can improve the sustainability of treatment systems. This paper presents a broader view on the possible applications of anaerobic treatment systems not only for organic matter removal but also for resources recovery aiming at the improvement of the sustainability of DST.  相似文献

This paper presented results from anaerobic co-digestion of pulp and paper sludge (PPS) and monosodium glutamate waste liquor (MGWL). A bench-scale anaerobic digester, 10 L in volume was developed, to operate under mesophilic (37 ± 2 °C) batch condition. Under versatile and reliable anaerobic conduct, high efficiency for bioconversion of PPS and MGWL were obtained in the system. The accumulative methane yield attained to 200 mL g−1 VSadded and the peak value of methane daily production was 0.5 m3/(m3 d). No inhibitions of volatile fatty acids (VFAs) and ammonia on anaerobic co-digestion were found. pH 6.0-8.0 and alkalinity 1000-4000 mg CaCO3/L were got without adjustment. This work showed that there was a good potential to the use of PPS and MGWL to anaerobic co-digestion for methane production.  相似文献

This study focuses on the effects of different carbon supplements on biological phosphorus removal in the optonics and semiconductor industrial wastewater treatment. Experimental results demonstrate that the addition of a carbon source (glucose, acetate, and digester supernatant) improved phosphorus removal effectively. When the COD/P ratios were controlled in the range of 18-20 (using glucose and supernatant as supplement), the acclimated sludge showed more than 98% removal of phosphorus. In addition, different organic carbons induce dissimilar behavior in anaerobic release and aerobic uptake of phosphorus. The glucose supplement induces significant phosphorus release in anaerobic phase and then an increased phosphorus uptake in aerobic phase. The released phosphorus descended in anaerobic phase when acetate and supernatant were added. There was a good linear relationship of first order reaction between initial COD concentration and specific substrate utilization rate in anaerobic phase.  相似文献

Upgrading activated sludge systems and reduction in excess sludge   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Most of 200 Activated Sludge Plant in Iran are overloaded and as a result, their efficiency is low. In this work, a pilot plant is manufactured and put into operation in one of the wastewater treatment plants in the west of Tehran. Instead of conventional activated sludge, a membrane bioreactor and an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor used as a pretreatment unit in this pilot. For the sake of data accuracy and precision, an enriched municipal wastewater was opted as an influent to the pilot. Based on the attained result, the optimum retention time in this system was 4h, and the overall COD removal efficiency was 98%. As a whole, the application of this retrofit would increase the plant's capacity by a factor of 5 and reducing the excess sludge by a factor of 10. The sludge volume index in the anaerobic reactor was about 12 after granulation occurred.  相似文献

A pilot scale experiment was performed for a year to develop a two-phase anaerobic process for piggery wastewater treatment (COD: 6,000 mg/L, BOD: 4,000 mg/L, SS: 500 gm/L, pH 8.4, alkalinity 6,000 mg/L). The acidogenic reactor had a total volume of 3 m3, and the methanogenic reactor, an, anaerobic up-flow sludge filter, combining a filter and a sludge bed, was also of total volume 3 m3 (1.5 m3 of upper packing material). Temperatures of the acidogenic and methanogenic reactors kept at 20°C and 35°C., respectively. When the pH of the acidogenic reactor was controlled at 6.0–7.0 with HCl, the COD removal efficiency increased from 50 to 80% over a period of six months, and as a result, the COD of the final effluent fell in the range of 1,000–1,500 mg/L. BOD removal efficiency over the same period was above 90%, and 300 to 400 mg/L was maintained in the final effluent. The average SS in the final effluent was 270 mg/L. The methane production was 0.32 m3 CH4/kg CODremoved and methane content of the methanogenic reactor was high value at 80–90%., When the pH of the acidogenic reactor was not controlled over the final two months, the pH reached 8.2 and acid conversion decreased compared with that of pH controlled, while COD removal was similar to the pH controlled operation. Without pH control, the methane content in the gas from methanogenic reactor improved to 90%, compared to 80% with pH control.  相似文献

Summary A high-strength baker's yeast effluent was anaerobically treated using a hybrid digester under mesophilic conditions. The digester was subjected to a substrate COD concentration of 21 767 mg/I at three different HRTs. At HRTs of 3.0, 2.0 and 1.0 d, the digester reduced the substrate COD by 76, 61 and 33%, respectively. Although the best COD removal was obtained at an OLR of 7.30 kg COD/m3.d, the highest COD removal rate (6.51 kg COD/M3-d) was found at 10.65 kg COD/m3.d at an HRT of 2.0 d. The low methane yield and VFA accumulation found in the digester effluent, indicated inhibition on methanogenic level and this was considered to be the rate-limiting step during the anaerobic treatment process. The overall efficiency of the digester indicated that this digester design and support medium was suitable for the treatment of a high-strength, sulfate-rich baker's yeast effluent.  相似文献
