Candida parapsilosis mitochondria contain three respiratory chains: the classical respiratory chain (CRC), a secondary parallel chain (PAR) and an “alternative” oxidative pathway (AOX). We report here the existence of similar pathways in C. albicans. To observe the capacity of each pathway to sustain yeast growth, C. albicans cells were cultured in the presence of inhibitors of these pathways. Antimycin A and KCN totally abrogated yeast growth, while rotenone did not prevent proliferation. Furthermore, rotenone promoted only partial respiratory inhibition. Lower concentrations of KCN that promote partial inhibition of respiration did not inhibit yeast growth, while partial inhibition of respiration with antimycin A did. Similarly, AOX inhibitor BHAM decreased O2 consumption slightly but completely stunted cell growth. Reactive oxygen species production and oxidized glutathione levels were enhanced in cells treated with antimycin A or BHAM, but not rotenone or KCN. These findings suggest that oxidative stress prevents C. albicans growth.  相似文献

`Grand Rapids' lettuce Lactuca sativa L. seeds germinate readily at 15°C but poorly at 25°C in darkness. When held in dark at 25°C for an extended period, the ungerminated seeds become dormant as shown by their inability to germinate or transfer to 15°C in darkness. Induction of dormancy at 25°C was prevented by exposure to CN, azide, salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM), dinitrophenol, and pure N2 as determined by subsequent germination at 15°C on removal of inhibitors. The effectiveness of inhibitors to break dormancy declined as dormancy intensified. At relatively low levels, CN, SHAM, and azide promoted dark germination at 25°C while at high levels they were inhibitory. Uptake of O2 by seeds held at 25°C for 4 days in 1.0 millimolar KCN was inhibited by 67% but was promoted 61% when KCN was removed. Correspondingly greater inhibition (79%) and promotion (148%) occurred when 1.0 millimolar SHAM was added to KCN solution. When applied alone, SHAM had little effect on O2 uptake. These data indicate that Cyt pathway of respiration plays a dominant role in the control of both dormancy induction and germination of lettuce seeds, and `alternative pathway' is effectively engaged in presence of CN. The channeling of respiratory energy use for processes governing germination or dormancy is subject to control by physical and chemical factors.

A scheme is proposed that illustrates compensatory use of energy for processes controlling dormancy induction and germination. A block of germination, e.g. by low water potential polyethylene glycol solution or a supraoptimal temperature spares energy to be utilized for dormancy induction while a block of dormancy induction by low levels of CN (similar to GA and light effects) drives germination. Blocking both processes by inhibitors (e.g. CN, CN + SHAM) presumably leads to accumulation of `reducing power' with consequent improvement in O2 uptake and oxidation rates of processes controlling germination or dormancy induction upon removal of the inhibitors.

Auxin-mediated elongation growth of maize coleoptile segments is inhibited by reducing the O2 concentration in the incubation medium to GT 100 μmol . 1?1. The half-maximal elongation rate is reached at 40 μmol . 1?1 O2, i.e. about two orders of magnitude higher than with mitochondrial respiration. O2 uptake of the segments measured under similar conditions with an O2 electrode shows a very similar dependence on O2 concentration. Auxin increases O2 uptake by 5–10% when it induces growth. About 40% of the O2 uptake is insensitive to inhibition by KCN. Auxin has no effect on O2 uptake in the presence of KCN. The possibility that auxin-mediated elongation growth depends on a KCN-sensitive oxidative process, other than cytochrome c oxidase-catalyzed respiration, is discussed.  相似文献

A comparison was made of energy metabolism of nodulated N2 fixing plants and non-nodulated NO3-fed plants of Lupinus albus L. Growth, N-increment, root respiration (O2 uptake and CO2 production) and the contribution of a SHAM-sensitive oxidative pathway (the alternative pathway) in root respiration were measured. Both growth rate and the rate of N-increment were the same in both series of plants. The rate of root respiration, both O2 uptake and CO2 production, and the activity of the SHAM-sensitive pathway were higher in NO3-fed plants than in N2 fixing plants. The rate of ATP production in oxidative phosphorylation was computed also to be higher in NO3-fed plants. It is concluded that both carbohydrate costings and ATP costings for synthesis + maintenance of root material were lower in N2 fixing than in NO3-fed plants. The respiratory quotient of root respiration was 1.6 in N2-fixing plants and 1.4 in NO3-fed plants. These values were slightly higher than the values calculated on the basis of CO2 output due to N-assimilation and the experimental values of O2 uptake, but showed the same trend: highest in N2 fixing plants. Root respiration of NO3-fed plants showed a diurnal pattern (both O2 uptake, CO2 production and the activity of the SHAM-sensitive pathway), whilst no diurnal variation in root respiration was found in N2 fixing plants. However, C2H2 reduction did show a diurnal rhythm, which is suggested to be related to the diurnal variation in transpiration. Addition of NO3 to N2 fixing plants increased the rate of root respiration and the activity of the alternative pathway. This treatment did not decrease C2H2 reduction and H2 evolution within 4 days. Withdrawal of NO3-supply from NO3-fed plants decreased the rate of root respiration but had no effect on the relative activity of the alternative pathway. It is suggested that the higher rate of root respiration and the higher activity of the SHAM-sensitive pathway in NO3-fed plants is due to a larger supply of carbohydrates to the roots, partly due to a better photosynthetic performance of the shoots and partly due to a higher capacity of the roots to attract carbohydrates.  相似文献

Summary Germination of the seeds of Phacelia tanacetifolia is inhibited by light. Removal of that part of the covering structures of the seeds which directly covers the radicle allows full germination in light. The rate of O2 uptake in the seeds increases following imbibition, and reaches the same steady rate in light and in darkness after 3 hr. From the 14 th hour on, dark-imbibed seeds show a linear increase in the rate of respiration. This increase is not observed in dormant seeds incubated in light. In normal dark germination, protrusion of the radicle begins at 12 th hour following soaking, and by the end of 18 th hour approximately 60% of the seeds have germinated. The seeds which have been scarified at the radicle end and germinate readily in light show a steady increase in Q O 2. If scarified seeds are allowed to imbibe 0.3 M mannitol and are then incubated in light, the embryo does not grow and the pattern of O2 uptake becomes identical with that of intact seeds in light. Mannitol, however, does not inhibit respiration by itself. These observations indicate that the increased O2 uptake is the result rather than the cause of seed germination, and that light does not cause dormancy by inhibiting O2 uptake. Measures effective in releasing dormancy (dark incubation, mechanical scarification, gibberellin treatment) do not induce germination by facilitating oxygen entry. This work was supported in part by the Jane Coffin Childs Memorial Fund for Medical Resarch, and by the U. Phytochrome-mediated germination of Lactuca sativa L. cv. Waldmann's Green seeds was inhibited strongly by 10 millimolar salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM), but only slightly delayed by the same level of KCN. SHAM was most effective if applied within the 8-hour potentiation period (release from dormancy) following red light treatment, but much less effective with completely potentiated seeds. SHAM at 3 millimolar actually hastened completion of potentiation, whereas concentrations of 6.6 millimolar or higher retarded the process. A temporary upsurge of O2 consumption was particularly evident during the period of most rapid potentiation (3 hours after red light), especially in the seed sections containing the embryonic axis. The embryonic axis obtained from dormant seeds also contained most of the SHAM-sensitive O2 uptake. However, 8 hours of potentiation caused loss of SHAM sensitivity from axes and a simultaneous gain of SHAM sensitivity by cotyledons. Concomitant with this increased sensitivity to SHAM, O2 uptake by cotyledonary tissues lost some sensitivity to KCN. Red light-stimulated metabolic processes leading to germination were blocked more effectively by SHAM than by KCN, but O2 consumption by both dormant and nondormant seeds was much less sensitive to 10 millimolar SHAM than to the same concentration of KCN. This apparent contradiction between effects of SHAM on potentiation and O2 uptake may be a result of: (a) compensatory electron flow through the cytochrome pathway at the expense of the alternate pathway; (b) a functional site of action of SHAM that differs from the organized, energy-coupled respiratory system; or (c) a combination of these possibilities.  相似文献

Leaf photosynthesis of the sensitive plant Mimosa pudica displays a transient knockout in response to electrical signals induced by heat stimulation. This study aims at clarifying the underlying mechanisms, in particular, the involvement of respiration. To this end, leaf gas exchange and light reactions of photosynthesis were assessed under atmospheric conditions largely eliminating photorespiration by either elevated atmospheric CO2 or lowered O2 concentration (i.e. 2000 μmol mol?1 or 1%, respectively). In addition, leaf gas exchange was studied in the absence of light. Under darkness, heat stimulation caused a transient increase of respiratory CO2 release simultaneously with stomatal opening, hence reflecting direct involvement of respiratory stimulation in the drop of the net CO2 uptake rate. However, persistence of the transient decline in net CO2 uptake rate under illumination and elevated CO2 or 1% O2 makes it unlikely that photorespiration is the metabolic origin of the respiratory CO2 release. In conclusion, the transient knockout of net CO2 uptake is at least partially attributed to an increased CO2 release through mitochondrial respiration as stimulated by electrical signals. Putative CO2 limitation of Rubisco due to decreased activity of carbonic anhydrase was ruled out as the photosynthesis effect was not prevented by elevated CO2.  相似文献

Respiration of barley protoplasts before and after illumination   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Respiratory O2 consumption was investigated in dark-adapted barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Gunilla) protoplasts and after illumination for 10 min at high and very low CO2 in the presence of respiratory and photorespiratory inhibitors. In dark-adapted protoplasts no difference was observed between inhibitor treatments in high and very low CO2. The respiratory rate increased somewhat after illumination and a difference in responce to inhibitors was in some cases observed between high and very low CO2. Thus, the operation of the mitochondrial electron transport chain is affected following a period of active photosynthesis. In all situations tested, oligomycin inhibited respiratiory O2 uptake indicating that respiration of mitochondria in protoplasts is not strictly ADP limited. Antimycin A inhibited respiration more in dark-adapted protoplasts than after illumination whereas SHAM gave the opposite response. Rotenone inhibited respiration both in dark-adapted protoplasts (about 30%) and after illumination where the inhibition was much greater in very low CO2 (50%) than in high CO2 (10%). After illumination in very low CO2. SHAM + rotenone inhibited respiration almost completely (70%). Photorespiratory inhibitors had very small effect on O2 consumption in darkness. After illumination the effect of aminoacetonitrile (AAN) was also very low whereas α-hydroxypyridine-2-methane sulphonate (HPMS) in photorespiratory conditions inhibited O2 uptake much stronger (35%). The addition of glyoxylate enhanced respiration in the presence of HPMS up to the control level suggesting that alternative pathways of glyoxylate conversion might be operating. The differences in inhibitor responses may reflect fine mechanisms for the regulation of energetic balance in the plant cell which consists of switching from electron transport coupled to ATP production to non-coupled transport. Photorespiratory flux is also very flexible, and the suppression of glycine decarboxylation can induce bypass reactions of glyoxylate metabolism.  相似文献

The nature of the different processes of O2 uptake involved in the light in the red macroalga Chondrus crispus Stackhouse (Rhodophyta, Gigartinales) was investigated. At limiting CO2, INH (2.5 mM) did not alter the O2 uptake rate. Glycolate was not excreted and did not accumulate within the cells. KCN reduced the rate of O2 uptake in the light by 76% at limiting CO2 and by 43% at saturating CO2, but caused > 95% inhibition of O2 evolution. DCMU (5 μM) totally blocked the photosynthetic electron transport chain, but allowed a residual O2 uptake of 3.0±0.6 μmol O2 .h?1.g?1 FW, irrespective of the CO2 concentration. In saturating CO2, a high light intensity pretreatment significantly stimulated the rate of O2 uptake compared to net O2 evolution, suggesting the persistence, in the light, of mitochondrial respiration. Irrespective of the CO2 concentration, the optimum temperature for O2 evolution was 17°C whereas dark O2 uptake increased linearly with temperature. In contrast, O2 uptake in the light showed an optimum at 17°C in limiting CO2, and 21–25° C in saturating CO2; its Q10 was 2.4 at limiting CO2, a value close to that of RuBP oxygenase, and 3.1 at saturating CO2, a value close to that of dark respiration. It is concluded that: 1) mitochondrial respiration and Mehler reaction are both involved at all CO2 concentrations, 2) RuBP oxygenase activity cannot account for more than 45%, and Mehler reaction for less than 20%, of the total O2 uptake observed in the light at limiting CO2.  相似文献

Measurements of respiration were made on leaf discs from glasshouse-grown soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv `Corsoy') plants in the presence and absence of cyanide (KCN) and salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM). O2 uptake by mature leaves measured at 25°C was stimulated by 1 millimolar KCN (63%) and also by 5 millimolar azide (79%). SHAM, an inhibitor of the alternative oxidase and a selection of other enzymes, also stimulated O2 uptake by itself at concentration of 10 millimolar. However, in combination, KCN and SHAM were inhibitory. The rate of O2 uptake declined consistently with leaf age. The stimulation of O2 uptake by KCN and by SHAM occurred only after a certain stage of leaf development had been reached and was more pronounced in fully expanded leaves. In young leaves, O2 uptake was inhibited by both KCN and SHAM individually. The uncoupler, p-trifluoromethoxy carbonylcyanide phenylhydrazone, stimulated leaf respiration at all ages studied, the stimulation being more pronounced in fully expanded leaves. The uncoupled rate was inhibited by KCN and SHAM individually. The capacity of the cytochrome path declined with leaf age, paralleling the decline in total respiration. However, the capacity of the alternative path peaked at about full leaf expansion, exceeding the cytochrome capacity and remaining relatively constant. These results are consistent with the presence in soybean leaves of an alternative path capacity that seems to increase with age, and they suggest that the stimulation of O2 uptake by KCN and NaN3 in mature leaves was mainly by the SHAM-sensitive alternative path. The stimulation of O2 uptake by SHAM was not expected, and the reason for it is not clear.  相似文献

The influence of potassium cyanide (KCN), dissolved O2 concentration and medium composition on alternative respiration (AR) of Acremonium chrysogenum were investigated. The respiration of the fungus was only partially inhibited by KCN, but completely inhibited by the combination of KCN with salicylhydroxamic acid. It has been proved by in-situ measurements of the NADH-dependent fluorescence that the AR is active at low dissolved O2 concentrations. The influence of the medium composition and the age of the fungus on the specific oxygen uptake rate is considered. Correpondence to: K. Schügerl  相似文献

The oxyhydrogen reaction in the presence and absence of CO2 was studied in H2-adapted Scenedesmus obliquus by monitoring the initial rates of H2, O2, and 14CO2 uptake and the effect of inhibitors on these rates with gas-sensing electrodes and isotopic techniques. In the presence of 0.02 atmosphere O2, the pH2 was varied from 0 to 1 atmosphere. Whereas the rate of O2 uptake increased by only 30%, the rate of H2 uptake increased severalfold over the range of pH2 values. At 0.1 atmosphere H2 and 0.02 atmosphere O2, rates for H2 and O2 uptake were between 15 and 25 micromoles per milligram chlorophyll per hour. As the pH2 was changed from 0 to 1 atmosphere, the quotient H2:O2 changed from 0 to roughly 2. This change may reflect the competition between H2 and the endogenous respiratory electron donors. Respiration in the presence of glucose and acetate was also competitive with H2 uptake. KCN inhibited equally respiration (O2 uptake in the absence of H2) and the oxyhydrogen reaction in the presence and absence of CO2. The uncoupler carbonyl cyanide p-trifluoromethoxyphenylhydrazone accelerated the rate of respiration and the oxyhydrogen reaction to a similar extent. It was concluded that the oxyhydrogen reaction both in the presence and absence of CO2 has properties in common with components of respiration and photosynthesis. Participation of these two processes in the oxyhydrogen reaction would require a closely linked shuttle between mitochondrion and chloroplast.  相似文献

Measurements of respiration were made on intact tissue and mitochondria isolated from soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr. cv `Corsoy') cotyledons from seedlings of different ages grown in light and darkness. Effects of cyanide (KCN) and salicylhydroxamic acid (SHAM) on O2 uptake rates were determined. O2 uptake was faster in light-grown tissue and was inhibited by both KCN and SHAM in all except light-grown tissue older than 9 days. Both inhibitors stimulated O2 uptake in tissues more than 9 days old. Mitochondria in which O2 uptake was coupled to ATP synthesis were isolated from all tissues. O2 uptake by mitochondrial preparations from light- and dark-grown cotyledons was equally sensitive to KCN. Similarly, age did not affect KCN sensitivity, but sensitivity to SHAM declined with age both in the presence and absence of KCN. Estimated capacities of the cytochrome and alternative pathways of the mitochondrial preparations indicated considerably larger cytochrome than alternative pathway capacities. The cytochrome pathway capacities paralleled the state 3 mitochondrial respiration rates, which increased from day 5 to day 7 then declined thereafter. The alternative pathway capacities were not affected by light. The uncoupler, p-trifluoromethoxycarbonylcyanide phenylhydrazone (FCCP), increased the flow of electrons through the cytochrome pathway at the expense of flow through the alternative pathway in isolated mitochondria. However, the combined capacities did not exceed the rate in the presence of FCCP. The results are interpreted to indicate that the stimulation of respiration by KCN and SHAM observed in the 12-day-old green cotyledons and previously observed in older soybean leaves is not explained by characteristics of the mitochondria.  相似文献

The inhibition of the cyanide (KCN)-insensitive respiration of Klebsiella oxytoca SYSU-011 by 8-hydroxyquinoline (8-HQ) was determined. Results showed that the profile of the rate of oxygen uptake of normal-grown and 8-HQ–grown K. oxytoca SYSU-011 was biphasic and similar, suggesting that 8-HQ did not inhibit the respiration of normal-grown K. oxytoca SYSU-011. A different biphasic KCN inhibition profile of respiration was observed for KCN-grown cells treated with and without 8-HQ. No decrease in respiration rate of KCN-grown cells and a 40% decrease in respiration rate of KCN-grown cells treated with 8-HQ were observed when KCN concentration was 10–1 mM. Comparing differences of the profiles of oxygen uptake in KCN-grown cells with and without 8-HQ addition indicated that 8-HQ inhibited expression of the KCN-insensitive pathway carried out by nonheme oxidase. Greater inhibition of NADH oxidase activity by 2-n-heptyl-4-hydroxyquinoline-N-oxide from the cell membrane of the KCN-grown cells treated with 8-HQ, and more H2O2 production from these cells with than without 8-HQ, suggest that the function of the cyanide-insensitive pathway can stabilize the respiration of the cyanide-grown cells to prevent the production of H2O2.  相似文献

The respiratory behaviour and partitioning of O2 uptake between air and water were investigated in Polypterus genegalus using continuous-flow and two-phase respirometers and lung gas replacement techniques P. senegalus rarely resorts to aerial respiration under normal conditions. Partitioning of O2 consumption depends on the activity and age of fish and the availability of aquatic oxygen. Immature fish (12–22 g) cannot utilize aerial O2 but older fish exhibit age-dependent reliance on aerial respiration in hypoxic and hypercarbic waters. Pulmonary respiration accounts for 50% of the total requirement at aquatic O2 concentrations of about 3.5 mg · l–1 (or CO2 of about 5%) and fish rely exclusively on aerial respiration at O2 concentrations of less than 2.5 mg · l–1. Branchial respiration is initially stimulated by hypercarbia (CO2: 0.5–0.8%) but increased hypercarbia (CO2 – 1%) greatly depresses (by over 90%) brancial respiration and initiates (CO2: 0.5%) and sustains pulmonary respiration.  相似文献

The composition and metabolic activity of cysts of the marine dinoflagellate Scrippsiella trochoidea (Stein) Loeblich were examined during dormancy, quiescence, and germination. On a per cell basis, newly formed cysts contained an order of magnitude more carbohydrate but significantly less protein and chlorophyll a than did exponentially growing vegetative cells. Loss of lipid and carbohydrate from cysts during the initial dormancy period reflected a respiration rate estimated to be 10% of the respiratory activity in vegetative cells. Among older, quiescent cysts the calculated respiration rate decreased further to approximately 1.5% of the vegetative rate and appeared to proceed largely at the expense of carbohydrate reserves. These estimated rates of respiration were in good agreement with direct measurements of cyst oxygen consumption. The transfer of quiescent cysts to conditions permissive for germination resulted in a rapid increase in respiration rate, as evidenced by carbohydrate loss and O2 consumption. The increased respiratory activity was followed by an increase in protein content and, later, by an increase in chlorophyll a content and photosynthetic capacity. Just prior to germination the P/R ratio became greater than 1, and the estimated chlorophyll-specific photosynthetic activity reached 75% of the rate in vegetative cells. Complete restoration of photosynthetic and respiratory capacity apparently was not achieved until after excystment. These data confirm the common assumption that dinoflagellate cysts represent true “resting” cells, containing extensive energy reserves and displaying greatly reduced metabolic activity.  相似文献

The effect of propyl-gallate (PG) and benzohydroxamic acid (BHAM),inhibitors of cyanide-resistant, alternative respiration path(AP), on germination were examined using after-ripened upperand lower cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.) seeds pre-soakedat 23?C for various periods. Germination was strongly suppressedby PG or BHAM at concentration above 2 mM. However, germinationwas enhanced by low concentrations of PG or BHAM (0.25 or 0.5mM) which reduced some portions of AP operation. Similarly, the high temperature-induced germination of pre-soaked upperseeds was promoted by the same low concentration range of PGor BHAM, in which PG and BHAM were effective only when appliedat the start of high temperature incubation. The inhibitionof germination by C2H4 at high temperature occurred only whenseeds were exposed to C2H4 during the earlier period of hightemperature incubation, and delayed application tended to promotetheir germination, although most of germinated seeds did notexhibit the normal germination behaviour of predominant radicleprotrusion. If the upper seeds had been subjected to a short-timepre-soaking, the inhibition of high temperature-induced germinationby C2H4 was prevented by the low concentrations of PG or BHAM,although the germination restored was mostly an abnormal, predominantlycotyldonary growth, suggesting that the germination inhibitionby C2H4 may be involved in some step of axial growth or in thegrowth of some specific axial zone. The lower concentrationsof PG or BHAM were promotive to the axial growth even at 33?C.Based on these results, the involvement of AP in cocklebur seedgerminaton is discussed in relation to the differential growthof axial and cotyledonary tissues. Prelabeled Anabaena variabilis Kütz. evolves 14CO2 in the light with KCN and DCMU (2,4-dichlorophenyl-1,1-dimethylurea) present, comparable to the dark control without inhibitors added. Double-reciprocal plots of CO2 release vs. light intensity with either KCN or KCN+DCMU present result in two straight lines intersecting at the ordinate. Apparently, reducing equivalents originating from carbohydrate catabolism are channeled into the photosynthetic electron-transport chain, competing for electrons from photosystem II. Under these conditions, the CO2 release is accompanied by a light-dependent oxygen uptake, presumably due to oxygen-reducing photosystem-I activity while ribulose-bisphosphate carboxylase is inhibited by KCN.Comparing nine blue-green algae it was shown that only nitrogen-fixing species release substantial amounts of CO2 in the light with KCN or KCN+DCMU present. This release is particularly obvious with Anabaena variabilis Kütz. under nitrogen-fixing conditions, but small when the alga is grown with combined nitrogen. We conclude that nitrogen-fixing species share a common link between respiratory and photosynthetic electron transport. The physiological role may be electron supply of nitrogenase by photosystem I.  相似文献

Acclimation of respiration to the light environments is important for a plant’s carbon balance. Respiratory rates of mature leaves of Alocasia odora, a typical shade‐tolerant species, were measured during the night for 14 d after reciprocal transfers between high‐ (330 µ mol m?2 s?1) and low‐light (20 µ mol m?2 s?1) environments. Following the transfer, both the rate of CO2 efflux and that of O2 uptake of A. odora leaves adjusted to the new light environments. The O2‐uptake rates changed more slowly than the CO2‐efflux rates under the new environments. Leaf mass per area also changed after the transfer. We analysed whether substrate availability or ATP‐consumption rates influence the respiratory acclimation. Since the addition of sucrose to leaf segments did not influence the O2‐uptake rates, the change of respiratory substrate availability was not responsible for the respiratory acclimation. The addition of an uncoupler induced increases in the O2‐uptake rates, and the degree of enhancement significantly decreased after the transfer from low to high irradiance. Thus, the change in ATP‐consumption rates was responsible for the changes in respiratory rates in the plants transferred from low to high light. Potential rates of O2 uptake, as measured in the presence of both the substrate and the uncoupler, changed after the transfer, and strongly correlated with the O2‐uptake rates, irrespective of the directions of transfer (r = 0·961). There was a strong correlation between maximal activities of NAD‐isocitrate dehydrogenase and the potential rates of O2 uptake (r = 0·933), but a weaker correlation between those of cytochrome c oxidase and the potential rates (r = 0·689). These data indicate that the changes of light environments altered the respiratory rates via the change of the respiratory ATP demand, and that the altered rates of respiration will induce the changes of the respiratory capacities.  相似文献
