Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng. (Rutaceae), commonly known as ‘curry leaf tree’, is a popular spice and condiment of India. To explore the diversity of the essential‐oil yield and aroma profile of curry leaf, growing wild in foot and mid hills of north India, 58 populations were collected during spring season. M. koenigii populations were found to grow up to an altitude of 1487 m in north India. Comparative results showed considerable variations in the essential‐oil yield and composition. The essential‐oil yield varied from 0.14 to 0.80% in shade‐dried leaves of different populations of M. koenigii. Analysis of the essential oils by GC and GC/MS, and the subsequent classification by statistical analysis resulted in four clusters with significant variations in their terpenoid composition. Major components of the essential oils of investigated populations were α‐pinene ( 2 ; 4.5–71.5%), sabinene ( 3 ; <0.05–66.1%), (E)‐caryophyllene ( 11 ; 1.6–18.0%), β‐pinene ( 4 ; <0.05–13.6%), terpinen‐4‐ol ( 9 ; 0.0–8.4%), γ‐terpinene ( 8 ; 0.2–7.4%), limonene ( 7 ; 1.1–5.5%), α‐terpinene ( 6 ; 0.0–4.5%), (E)‐nerolidol ( 14 ; 0.0–4.1%), α‐humulene ( 12 ; 0.6–3.5%), α‐thujene ( 1 ; 0.0–2.5%), β‐elemene ( 10 ; 0.2–2.4%), β‐selinene ( 13 ; 0.2–2.3%), and myrcene ( 5 ; 0.5–2.1%). Comparison of the present results with those in earlier reports revealed new chemotypes of M. koenigii in investigated populations from Western Himalaya. An efficient and reproducible procedure for the large scale propagation of Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng. (Curry Leaf Tree) is described. High-frequency direct shoot proliferation was induced in intact seedlings of M. koenigii on modified Murashige and Skoog (1962) (MS) medium supplemented with 5.0 mg/l benzyladenine. Shoot buds originated from the region adjacent to the apex of the primary shoot and the epicotyledonary node of the intact seedling. Shoots elongated following transfer to MS medium without plant growth regulators. The shoot-forming capacity of intact seedlings was influenced by explant orientation. Maximum shoot proliferation was obtained when the shoot-forming region was in direct contact with the medium surface or slightly embedded into the medium. Proliferating shoot cultures were established by repeatedly subculturing mother seedlings on fresh medium of the same composition after excising all newly formed shoots. Roots were formed on excised shoots when they were transfered to half-strength MS containing 1.0 mg/l indole-3-butyric acid. Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng (Curry leaf) is a commercially important medicinal plant in South Asia, containing therapeutically valuable carbazole alkaloids (CAs). Thus, the quantitative evaluation of these compounds from different climatic zones of India are an important aspect for quality assessment and economic isolation of targeted compounds from the plant. In this study, quantitative estimation of CAs among 34 Indian natural populations of M. koenigii was assessed using UPLC/MS/MS. The collected populations represent the humid subtropical, tropical wet & dry, tropical wet, semi-arid, arid, and montane climatic zones of India. A total of 11 CAs viz. koenine-I, murrayamine A, koenigine, koenimbidine, koenimbine, O-methylmurrayamine A, girinimbine, mahanine, 8,8’’-biskoenigine, isomahanimbine, and mahanimbine were quantified using multiple reaction monitoring (MRM) experiments within 5.0 min. The respective range for natural abundance of CAs were observed as 0.097–1.222, 0.092–5.014, 0.034–0.661, 0.010–1.673, 0.013–7.336, 0.010–0.310, 0.010–0.114, 0.049–5.288, 0.031–1.731, 0.491–3.791, and 0.492–5.399 mg/g in leaves of M. koenigii. The developed method shown linearity regression coefficient (r2>0.9995), LOD (0.003–0.248 ng/mL), LOQ (0.009–0.754 ng/mL), and the recovery was between 88.803–103.729 %. The bulk of these CAs were recorded in their highest concentrations in the humid subtropical zone, followed by the tropical wet & dry zones of India. Further, principal component analysis (PCA) was performed which differentiated the climatic zones according to the dominant and significant CAs contents within the populations. The study concludes that the method established is simple, rapid, with high sample throughput, and can be used as a tool for commercial purposes and quality control of M. koenigii.  相似文献

Seven essential oils namely clove, cedar wood, lemongrass, peppermint, eucalyptus, citronella and neem oils were tested for their inhibitory effect on spore germination, growth of germ tube and mycelial growth of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides isolated from diseased Murraya koenigii. All essential oils inhibited the germination and growth of germ tube at different concentrations. However, significant reduction in colony growth was observed with citrus, lemongrass and peppermint oils at 1000, 1500 and 2000 ppm concentrations, respectively. Citrus oil at 1360 ppm inhibited the maximum growth of the fungus followed by lemongrass oil at 1720 ppm and peppermint at 2260 ppm, respectively. The effect of essential oils on mycelial dry weight also showed antifungal activity on the growth of Colletotrichum gloeosporioides. The study revealed the possible utilisation of these essential oils for foliar spray for the management of leaf spot disease of Murraya koenigii.  相似文献

Ethanolic extract of fresh leaves of M. koenigii (MKEE) showed a dose dependent positive inotropic effect on isolated frog heart. The responses to MKEE (62.5-1000 microg) were not affected in either way by theophylline, imidazole, propranolol and sildenafil. The change in potassium and sodium concentration did not alter MKEE-induced positive inotropic effect. Lignocaine did not alter the responses to MKEE significantly. Responses to MKEE were significantly inhibited when calcium concentration was reduced to half (from 1.58 to 0.79 mM) and were significantly potentiated when calcium concentration was doubled (from 1.58 to 3.16 mM). Verapamil was found to inhibit the responses significantly. The results suggest that M. koenigii induced positive inotropic effect possibly by increasing availability of calcium from extra cellular sites.  相似文献

Murraya koenigii (L.) Spreng. (Rutaceae), is an aromatic plant and much valued for its flavor, nutritive and medicinal properties. In this study, three DNA fingerprinting methods viz., random amplification of polymorphic DNA (RAPD), directed amplification of minisatellite DNA (DAMD), and inter-simple sequence repeat (ISSR), were used to unravel the genetic variability and relationships across 92 wild and cultivated M. koenigii accessions. A total of 310, 102, and 184, DNA fragments were amplified using 20 RAPD, 5 DAMD, and 13 ISSR primers, revealing 95.80, 96.07, and 96.73% polymorphism, respectively, across all accessions. The average polymorphic information content value obtained with RAPD, DAMD, and ISSR markers was 0.244, 0.250, and 0.281, respectively. The UPGMA tree, based on Jaccard’s similarity coefficient generated from the cumulative (RAPD, DAMD, and ISSR) band data showed two distinct clusters, clearly separating wild and cultivated accessions in the dendrogram. Percentage polymorphism, gene diversity (H), and Shannon information index (I) estimates were higher in cultivated accessions compared to wild accessions. The overall high level of polymorphism and varied range of genetic distances revealed a wide genetic base in M. koenigii accessions. The study suggests that RAPD, DAMD, and ISSR markers are highly useful to unravel the genetic variability in wild and cultivated accessions of M. koenigii.  相似文献

Two flavonoids were isolated from the leaves of Murraya paniculata (L.) Jack. (Rutaceae) grown in Yunnan. On the basis of spectroscopy (UV, IR, NMR and MS) analysis compound A and B were identified as 3,3′,4′,5,5′,7, 8-heptamethoxyflavone (Ⅰ), 3′, 4′ 5, 5′, 7, 8-hexamethoxyflavone (Ⅱ), respectively. The latter, named bannamu- rpanisin, is new natural product. In addition, three known coumarins, meranzin hydrate (Ⅲ), murragatin (Ⅳ) and murpanidin (Ⅴ) were obtained.  相似文献

与唐古特大黄相比,唐古特山莨菪的表观光合量子效率(AQY)较高,但最大净光合速率(Pmax)较低。在光强小于1200μmolm-2s-1时,后者用于碳同化的电子传递占总光合电子传递的比例(JC/JF)比前者高,而分配于光呼吸的电子传递(JO/JF)及Rubisco氧化和羧化速率的比值(VO/VC)则相反;光强大于1200μmolm-2s-1以后两种植物的这些参数都趋向稳定。随光强增加,后者叶片吸收光能分配于热耗散(D)的增加斜率较前者高,表明两高山植物对强辐射的适应方式略有不同。加强光呼吸途径的耗能代谢和PSII天线热耗散份额是唐古特山莨菪适应高原强辐射的主要方式,而提高叶片光合能力则是唐古特大黄的一种适应方式。  相似文献

Origanum onites L., known as Turkish oregano, has great traditional, medicinal, preservative, and commercial importance. It is used for the treatment of several kinds of ailments, such as gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, high cholesterol, leukemia, bronchitis, etc. In this review, traditional use, phytochemistry, and pharmacology of O. onites reported between 1988 and 2014 were discussed. This review was prepared based on literature survey on scientific journals and books from libraries and electronic sources, such as Web of Science, PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar, etc. All databases were searched up to June 2014. Several different classes of terpenoids, triterpene acids, phenolic acids, hydroquinones, flavonoids, hydrocarbons, sterols, pigments, fatty acids, tocopherols, and inorganic compounds were detected mainly in the aerial parts of this plant. Pharmacological studies revealed that extracts obtained from several solvents and individual compounds exhibited antimicrobial, antiviral, antioxidant, insecticidal, anticancer, hepatoprotective, genotoxic, antidiabetic, cholinesterase inhibitory, anti‐inflammatory, analgesic activities, etc. O. onites, in general, exhibited remarkable activity potential in almost all test systems. The results of toxicity studies indicated that O. onites did not show any significant toxicity and mutagenicity on Drosophila and Salmonella. Toxicity of the extracts/essential oils and also individual compounds should be evaluated on mammalian cells to ensure their safety. The bioactivity of individual compounds aside from terpenoids should also be assessed in detail. Additionally, mode of action for the bioactive compounds should be evaluated to understand the complex pharmacological effects of these phytochemicals.  相似文献

Different organic solvent crude extracts from the leaves of Alangium salviifolium (L.F.) Wangerin, were tested for their feeding deterrence, larvicidal activity and protein concentrations on the fourth instar larvae of Spodoptera litura L. under laboratory conditions. Treatments were given through two different host plant leaves such as brinjal and castor. The bioassay was carried out at different concentrations viz., 0.625, 1.25, 2.5 and 5%. The maximum antifeedant activity in brinjal (52.0%) and castor (29.97%) leaf discs was recorded in ethyl acetate extract as compared with hexane and chloroform extracts at 5% concentration. The result of larvicidal activity revealed that the maximum larval mortality was registered in brinjal leaves (65.81%) and castor with (57.48%) in ethyl acetate extract as compared to hexane and chloroform extracts at 5% concentration. The ethyl acetate extract of A. salviifolium contained alkaloids, diterpenoids, and saponins. The treatment also reduced haemolymph protein concentration after 48 h.  相似文献

Abstract

Castor (Ricinus communis L.) cultivation is generally cost-effective and profitable for small and marginal farmers in India. However, crop productivity is affected by the damage from pests and plant pathogens. From seedling till capsule harvesting, leaf sap-sucking insects and mites, defoliators, capsule feeding insects; bacterial and fungal diseases and root-knot nematodes attack the crop at various stages of growth and deteriorate plant health. Currently, synthetic pesticides are being applied extensively. Considering side effects of chemicals, other control measures are considered in this review. Findings of greenhouse and the field trials are discussed, and the efficient, economic and eco-friendly management has been elaborated.  相似文献

Since the 19th century to date, the fungal pathogens have been involved in causing devastating diseases in plants. All types of fungal pathogens have been observed in important agricultural crops that lead to significant pre and postharvest losses. The application of synthetic fungicide against the fungal plant pathogens (FPP) is a traditional management practice but at the same time these fungicides kill other beneficial microbes, insects, animal, and humans and are harmful to environment. The antagonistic microorganism such as bacteria are being used as an alternate strategy to control the FPP. These antagonistic species are cost-effective and eco-friendly in nature. These biocontrol bacteria have a broad mechanism against fungal pathogens present in the phyllosphere and rhizosphere of the plant. The antagonistic bacteria have different strategies against the FPP, by producing siderophore, biofilm, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), through parasitism, antibiosis, competition for limited resources and induce systemic resistance (ISR) in the host plant by activating the immune systems. The commercial bio-products synthesized by the major bacterial species Pseudomonas syringae, Burkholderia cepacia, Streptomyces griseoviridis, Pseudomonas fluorescens and Bacillus subtilis are used to control Fusarium, Pythium, Rhizoctonia, Penicillium, Alternaria, and Geotrichum. The commercial bio-formulations of bacteria act as both antifungal and plant growth regulators. The Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) played a significant role in improving plant health by nitrogen-fixing, phosphorus solubilization, phytohormones production, minimizing soil metal contamination, and by ACC deaminase antifungal activities. Different articles are available on the specific antifungal activity of bacteria in plant diseases. Therefore, this review article has summarized the information on biocontrol activity of bacteria against the FPP and the role of PGPR in plant growth promotion. This review also provided a complete picture of scattered information regarding antifungal activities of bacteria and the role of PGPR.

Callus was induced from hybrids between cultivated barley (Hordeum vulgare L. ssp. vulgare) and ten species of wild barley (Hordeum L.) as well as from one backcross line ((H. lechleri x H. vulgare) x H. vulgare). Successful callus induction and regeneration of plants were achieved from explants of young spikes on the barley medium J 25–8. The capacity for plant regeneration was dependent on the wild parental species. In particular, combinations with four related wild species, viz. H. jubatum, H. roshevitzii, H. lechleri, and H. procerum, regenerated high numbers of plants from calli.  相似文献

Leaves of jamun collected as agro by-produce during the cultivation of jamun is traditionally used as ayurvedic medicine to treat diabetes, gall bladder stones and other ailments. Most of the beneficial effects of jamun leaves are associated with phytochemicals found in jamun leaves such as gallic acid, tannins, mallic acid, flavonoids, essential oils, jambolin, ellagic acid, jambosine, antimellin and betulinic acid. Jamun possess curative activities like anticancer, antidiabetic, antifertility, anti-inflammatory, antidiarrheal, antimicrobial, antinociceptive, antioxidant, antiradiation, chemotherapeutic, and gastroprotective. The main goal of this review article is to provide information on the nutritional content, phytochemical composition and health promoting properties of jamun leaves. The review of literature based on the phytochemical composition and health promoting benefits of the jamun leaves, suggests that leaves can be used as potential constituent in the formulation of pharmacological drugs. From the review literature it is found that clinical, in-vivo, in-vitro studies are still required to check the health promoting effects of jamun leaves extracts on humans.  相似文献

Coeloglossum viride(L.) Hartm. has a worldwide distribution in the Northern hemisphere where it can be found in a broad range of habitats; it is not, at present, threatened with extinction. However, in several European countries there has been a dramatic decline in sites occupied by this orchid. In The Netherlands only 2 populations remain of 55 extant before 1950. Knowledge of its ecology and life history are necessary to preserve this species at sites not directly threatened by habitat destruction. The results of a 7 year demographic study of a population ofC. viridein The Netherlands are presented. Annual recruitment and mortality vary considerably from year to year, whereas the flux in individual plants is always high. The half-life of the cohorts varies from 1.0 to 2.4 years and is on averagec. 1.5 years. This indicates thatC. virideis a short-lived terrestrial orchid species. The number of flowers per inflorescence varies from 2 to 26 per spike. The mean flowering percentage in the population is rather high (50%), while the fruit production was low in the year this was recorded (1994),viz. c. 10%. The average number of seeds per capsule wasc. 2300. Plants emerging above ground for the first time are already able to produce an inflorescence, and the average number of flowers equals those of plants initially passing a vegetative life phase for one or more years. Dormancy is a rare phenomenon in this species and the absence above ground when it does occur does not last longer than one growing season. Vegetative multiplication plays a minor role in population dynamics. The studied population is likely to be in a healthy state: there is a high recruitment almost every year resulting in a vigorous age structure. Management of the site, with mowing in July following seed dispersal and sheep grazing in winter is beneficial. The absence of intentional fertilization is a condition for a suitable, low vegetational structure of the sward during the growing season of this species.  相似文献

The physic nut (Jatropha curcas L.) is a multipurpose and oil‐producing shrub of Central and South American origin. Since the 15th century, this shrub has existed across tropical regions. Despite its presumed resistance to herbivores, reports show that arthropod herbivores infest it. However, no comprehensive account of arthropod herbivores, which consume the physic nut, exists. Here, we conducted a literature review that provides a comprehensive account of arthropod herbivores of the physic nut. Based on the co‐evolutionary hypothesis, we expected to find a higher herbivore of species richness and a larger proportion of native herbivores within the native range than elsewhere. As physic nut is a well‐defended plant chemically, we expected to find evidence for highest herbivory levels in plant parts that are the least defended. By the literatures review, we compiled 78 arthropod herbivores representing nine orders and from 31 families that feed on physic nut across the globe. As expected, the highest numbers of herbivores (34 species) were documented within the native range of the J. curcas and the lowest species number (21 species) in Africa. Of the 34 species in Central and South America, 94% were of native origin. Nine species were found feeding on J. curcas on more than one continent. Origins of 49% of species were from the native range of J. curcas. The highest percentage (54%) of species belonged to Hemiptera. With regard to feeding guilds, 59% of the herbivores belonged to sucking and 41% to chewing species. Forty‐one per cent of species were flower or fruit feeders, and 36% foliage feeders. We conclude that J. curcas is, despite its toxicity, vulnerable to herbivory, mainly to foliage, flower and fruit feeders.  相似文献
