A growth trial with 38 weaners (castrated male pigs) was designed to compare the growth performance and carcass quality of pigs fed diets containing either soy bean meal or soy protein concentrate in a pair-feeding design. Soy bean meal (SBM) and soy protein concentrate (SPC) differed in isoflavone (daidzein plus genistein) content (782 microg/g in SBM and 125 microg/g in SPC, respectively). During the experiment, all pigs were fed four-phases-diets characterized by decreasing protein concentrations with increasing age (weaner I, weaner II, grower, finisher diets). Rations of control and experimental groups were isoenergetic, isonitrogenous, and isoaminogen. The weanling pigs with an initial live weight of 8.4 +/- 1.1 kg were allotted to flat deck boxes. During the growing/finishing period (days 70-170 of age), the pigs were housed in single boxes. Both, the weaning and the grower/finishing performances (daily body weight gain, feed intake, feed conversion ratio) were similar in both groups. No differences were found between the groups in carcass composition (percentages of cuts, tissues, and protein/fat), and meat quality of pigs. Moreover, the IGF-1R mRNA expression in longissimus muscle was not influenced by the kind of soy product. However, circulating levels of isoflavones were clearly different between pigs fed SBM (genistein 239 +/- 44; daidzein 162 +/- 42; equol 12 +/- 4 ng/ml plasma) and animals fed SPC (genistein 22 +/- 9 and daidzein 8 +/- 3, and equol 10 +/- 3 ng/ml plasma). The results confirm the expected differences in the bioavailability of soy isoflavones, yet, there were no significant differences in performance of pigs fed either soy bean meal or soy protein concentrate.  相似文献

Differential carbohydrate media and anaerobic replica plating techniques were used to assess the degrees of diurnal variations in the direct and viable cell counts as well as the carbohydrate-specific subgroups within the mixed rumen bacterial populations in cattle fed maintenance (metabolizable energy) levels of either a high-forage or a high-concentrate diet once daily. The rumen was sampled at 1 h before feeding and 2, 4, 8, 12, and 16 h after feeding, and selected microbiological parameters of the isolated bacterial populations were assessed. Corresponding samples of ruminal fluid were assayed for fermentation acids, carbohydrate, ammonia, and pH changes. The data showed that regardless of diet, total bacterial numbers remained fairly constant throughout the day. The number of viable bacteria declined 40 to 60% after feeding and then increased to a maximum at 16 h postfeeding. Changes occurred in the carbohydrate-specific subgroups within the bacterial populations, and some of the changes were consistent with a predicted scheme of ruminal feedstuff carbohydrate fermentation. Regardless of diet, however, soluble-carbohydrate-utilizing bacteria predominated at all times. Xylan-xylose and pectin subgroups respectively comprised about one-half and one-third of the population when the high-forage diet was given. These subgroups, along with the cellulolytics, constituted lesser proportions of the population when the high-concentrate diet was given. The cellulolytic subgroup was the least numerous of all subgroups regardless of diet but followed a diurnal pattern similar to that predicted for cellulose fermentation. There were few diurnal variations or differences in bacterial cell compositions and ruminal fluid parameters between diets. The observed similarities and dissimilarities of the rumen bacterial populations obtained when the two diets were given are discussed. The data are consistent with the versatility and constancy of the rumen as a stable, mature microbial system under the specific low-level feeding regimens used.  相似文献

Four rumen-fistulated steers, randomly assigned to two groups (control and salinomycin fed) were used to monitor the changes in rumen microbial populations and volatile fatty acids (VFA) concentrations associated with feeding salinomycin (0.22 mg X kg-1 X day-1). Steers were adapted to an alfalfa hay and grain (80:20) diet before supplementing the diet with salinomycin, and then the diet was changed to 50:50 and 20:80 ratios of alfalfa hay to grain at 2-week intervals. Rumen samples for total and selective enumeration of anaerobic bacteria. VFA analysis, and enumeration of protozoa were collected during the 80:20 alfalfa hay-to-grain diet before salinomycin feeding, and during the 80:20, 50:50, and 20:80 hay-to-grain diets with salinomycin. At each sampling period, rumen samples were collected at 3 h after feeding on three consecutive days. Salinomycin feeding had no effect on rumen pH and total VFA concentration. The acetate-to-propionate ratio was significantly lower in salinomycin-fed steers than in the control. The molar proportion of butyrate increased in both control and salinomycin-fed steers. Total anaerobic bacterial counts were lower in salinomycin-fed steers than in the control steers after 8 weeks of salinomycin feeding. Salinomycin-resistant bacteria increased from 7.6 to 15.6% in salinomycin-fed steers but remained unchanged in control steers. Salinomycin had no effect on cellulolytic and lactate-utilizing bacteria, but the proportion of amylolytic bacteria was higher in salinomycin-fed steers than in control steers. The total number of protozoa decreased initially in salinomycin-fed steers. The initial reduction was due to reduced numbers of Entodinium species. We examined the effect of methionine deficiency on iodothyronine 5’-deiodinase activity in selenium-deficient rats or selenium-sufficient rats fed sodium selenate or selenomethionine. Forty-two weanling male Wistar rats were divided into six groups and pair fed the respective purifiedl-amino acid-based diets for 4 wk.l-methionine concentrations in the diet were 8.0 g/kg for sufficient rats, and 2.0 g/kg for deficient rats. Selenium concentrations in the diet were 0.5 mg/kg (as sodium selenate or selenomethionine) for selenium-sufficient rats and less than 0.005 mg/kg for selenium-deficient rats. Type I 5’-deiodinase activities were significantly lower in liver and higher in kidney of methionine-deficient rats than in those of methionine-sufficient rats fed either the selenium-sufficient or the selenium-deficient diets. The type I 5’-deiodinase activity in brain was significantly lower in the methionine-deficient rats than in the methionine-sufficient rats fed the selenium-deficient diet. Type II 5’-deiodinase activity in brain was significantly higher in the methionine-deficient rats than in the methionine-sufficient rats fed selenium-sufficient diet as sodium selenate. Both thyroxine and 3,3’,5-triiodothyronine concentrations in plasma were significantly higher in the methionine-deficient rats than in the methionine-sufficient rats. It is suggested that the methionine deficiency affects the 5’-deiodinase activity and thyroid hormones level in the rats.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of a dietary Allium sativum (garlic) addition on growth, parasite infestation and blood parameters in Colossoma macropomum (tambaqui) using 12 net‐cages (1 m3). There were four treatments with three replicates each (15 fish per replicate). Tambaqui of 112.4 g mean weight were fed for 45 days with diets containing 0, 15, 30 and 45 g of fresh garlic kg?1 feed. Garlic did not affect the tambaqui survival, growth, feed conversion, body condition, plasma glucose levels, total plasma protein levels or red blood cells. Total leukocyte and lymphocyte numbers decreased in fish fed diets containing 45 g garlic kg?1 feed, but neutrophils decreased in fish fed diets containing 15, 30 and 45 g garlic kg?1 diet, while the number of immature leukocytes increased in fish fed 30 g and 45 g garlic kg?1diet. Gills in fish fed 30 and 45 g kg?1 diet had lower infestation (52% and 63%, respectively) of Anacanthorus spathulatus (Monogenea) compared to controls. The application of garlic in diets improved the response of leukocytes and enhanced the resistance to infections by monogeneans.  相似文献

Experiments were carried out in pigs to investigate the relationship between concentration of intestinal calcium-binding protein (CaBP) and the presence of rickets. Pigs made rachitic by a diet deficient in calcium and in vitamin D had concentrations of intestinal CaBP no less than values obtained on control pigs. These experiments, together with earlier work on rats (Can. J. Physiol. Pharmacol. 1975. 53, 137--143), demonstrate a poor inverse correlation between levels of intestinal CaBP and rickets.  相似文献

Measurements were made of duodenal calcium-binding protein (CaBP) on rats during development of rickets and, subsequently, following vitamin-D2 treatment. Results showed a poor inverse correlation between duodenal CaBP and rickets. In rats fed a phosphate-deficient rachitogenic diet, duodenal CaBP concentration finally fell below detectable limits, but CaBP was still readily measurable 2 weeks after rickets was clearly established. Following a massive dose of vitamin D2 (50 000 I.U.) to rachitic animals, CaBP was formed. However, a small dose of vitamin D2 (500 I.U. daily for 4 days) was insufficient to demonstrate CaBP synthesis than vitamin-D treatment alone. The rachitogenic diet supplemented with phosphate, which caused osteoporosis but not rickets, inhibited CaBP synthesis. The results suggest that nutritional deficiencies from the rachitogenic diet, in addition to vitamin-D deficiency, inhibited CaBP synthesis.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of replacing corn with an increasing concentration of high-purity glycerol (>99%) on growth performance, economical efficiency, blood constituents and nutrient digestibility of growing lambs. In experiment one, 24 male lambs (initial BW=33.6±6.0 kg; age=6.75±0.75 months) were randomly assigned to one of the three experimental treatments containing 0%, 5% or 10% glycerol to replace corn in concentrate. In experiment two, nine lambs (initial BW=44.7±2.2 kg, age=8.84±0.32 months) were used in a digestion trial with three treatments (three lambs per treatment) with glycerol replacing corn at 0%, 5% or 10% in the concentrate. Total dry matter (DM) intake decreased quadratically (P=0.003) with increasing concentration of glycerol in the diet. Lambs fed glycerol diets had greater average daily gain (P=0.005) and better feed efficiency (P=0.002) compared with the control. Feed costs were also reduced with glycerol inclusion. Glycerol supplementation did not affect serum concentrations of total protein, albumin, globulin, total lipid, cholesterol and glucose concentrations. Glycerol supplementation had no effect (P>0.05) on organic matter and CP digestion, but improved DM (P=0.0003), crude fiber (P=0.10), ether extract (P=0.0002) and nitrogen-free extract (P=0.05) digestion. In conclusion, glycerol can replace corn up to 10% of DM in the diets of growing lambs.  相似文献

Grass carp were arranged in two groups with an average individual weight of 63 g and 3 g respectively. They were maintained in circular tanks and each group size was fed one of four experimental diets consisting of Purina catfish chow pellets, 50 % catfish chow ryegrass pellets, 100% ryegrass pellets and fresh duckweed, Lemna minima. In this study a high biomass, excellent growth and satisfactory survival rates were obtained when the fish were fed duckweed; the other diets were less satisfactory. The 100% ryegrass pellets gave the least weight gains and on this diet the smaller fish showed lower survival rates and more abnormalities. The feeding experiment lasted 68 days.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments were conducted to assess the growth of Corbicula fluminea Müller (1774) fed mixed diets of the green alga Ankistrodesmus and five artificial foods (nine-grain cereal, rice flour, rye bran, denatured brewer's yeast and Ralston Purina trout chow). Clams lost weight after 30 days on each artificial diet; however, weight losses were significantly less than those of control clams which were not fed (p < 0.05). In contrast, clam growth was positive in each treatment which included Ankistrodesmus. There was no significant difference in the tissue growth of clams fed on an Ankistrodesmus monoculture and Ankistrodesmus supplemented with each artificial diet (p > 0.2). Therefore, we conclude that all of the artificial diets evaluated were of nutritional value. However, the alga Ankistrodesmus appears to be a superior food item. In subsequent experiments, clams were fed on diets consisting of various combinations of six genera of green algae (Pedinomonas, Ankistrodesmus, Chlamydomonas, Chlorella, Scenedesmus, and Selenastrum). All trialgal combinations of Chlamydomonas, Chlorella, Scenedesmus, and Ankistrodesmus and a dialgal culture of Chlamydomonas and Chlorella resulted in strong positive tissue growth. No other dialgal or monoalgal culture resulted in similar growth. Cultures of Selenastrum were found to be toxic, and their filtrate was determined to inhibit Corbicula filtration.  相似文献

Literature data and the authors' results, concerning structural and functional peculiarities of all varieties of the cerebral neuroglia under effect of a cranial-cerebral trauma, neurotropic chemical products and oxygen insufficiency have been considered. Ideas that neuroglial reactions under the conditions mentioned are proved to be constant and in dependence of certain peculiarities of each case are either progressive or regressive. The reaction degree is mainly proportional to the disturbance power. Nevertheless, certain discrepancies (ariactivity including) can be observed; this is also determined by a combination of prerequisites and by a peculiarity of individual reactivity of the CNS. The greatest stability of astroglia has been stated. Possible variations in relation between changes of neurons and gliocytes are mentioned. Suggestions are made that diffuse-focal progressive reactions of macroglia under conditions of neurotoxicoses can be determined not by proliferation of cells, but by their migration.  相似文献
