Conjugated inhibition was studied of the swallowing reflex during formation of dominant focus in the centre of the eye-lid reflex. In the initial period of the dominant focus formation when the dominant passed through the stage of summating reflex, the swallowing reflex was not inhibited. When the dominant turned to optimal stage, i. e. when it was reinforced by stimuli of various modalities, the swallowing reflex was conjugately inhibited. When the dominant turned to pessimal state, summation was not observed in the dominant focus, and conjugated inhibition went on. In the study of the influence of the eye-lid reflex on the swallowing one, it was found that during formation of temporary connection of the type of summating reflex a circular interaction between the centres took place.  相似文献

The paper deals with conjugated inhibition of rabbit's defensive limb reflex at formation of a dominant focus in the center of the eye-lid reflex. In the initial period of dominant focus formation, when the dominant comes through the stage of summation reflex, electrocutaneous limb stimulation induced, along with successive summation, temporary inhibition of the forming dominant focus. The dominant focus formed in the eye-lid center did not induce conjugated inhibition of the limb defensive reflex. In the study of the influence of the eye-lid reflex on the motor defensive one it was found that formation of temporary connection of summation reflex type, led to circulatory interaction between the centers.  相似文献

On rabbits in chronic experiment intercentral relations were studied of biopotentials of the sensorimotor cortical zone (blinking presentation in the cortex), VPM of the thalamus and motor nucleus of the oculomotor nerve at formation of blinking dominant created by serial stimulation of one eye by air jet. By the method of spectral-correlation analysis an increase was revealed of spectrum power and increase of COG of the potentials in delta-range in the structures connected with blinking function of the stimulated eye. At transition of the dominant focus to the inhibitory state and activation of the symmetrical centre of the other eye, in centers constellation of this induced focus a reconstruction of the electrical processes took place typical for the dominant.  相似文献

Thirsty dogs were learned to regulate the supply of water by flexing the paw. The movement was effective only during an acoustic stimulation, either immediately at its beginning, or 10 to 20 sec. after its isolated action. The acoustic signal produced both flexion of the paw (instrumental reflex) and rhythmic swallowing movements which preceded the moment when water was fed into the mouth (classical conditioned reflex). The effect of prolongation of the isolated acoustic stimulation was manifested with extinction of the classical conditioned reflex and activation of the instrumental one.  相似文献

By means of daily alimentary deprivation and presentation of acoustic stimuli, a hunger dominant was created in rabbits. After dominant testing by eye stimulation with air puff, when not only winking of one eye but also swallowing or chewing appeared,--the dominant was disrupted by giving food to the animal. Disruption of motivational hunger dominant led to rapid formation of stable temporary connection. At subsequent creation of hunger dominant the animal itself disrupted it by winking reaction with the significant eye. The basis of goal-directed reaction is the activation of feedback temporary connection, established at the dominant summation stage. The conditioned alimentary reflex, elaborated on the basis of dominant disruption is designated as endogenous alimentary conditioned reflex.  相似文献

Summation was studied by a procedure close to that used in producing a conditioned reflex. Subthreshold electrical stimulation, which gave rise to a dominant focus in the cat motor cortex, was applied after photic stimulation. Under these conditions, summation occurred both when the two stimuli were applied simultaneously and when the weaker stimulus preceded the stronger one by a very short interval (tens of milliseconds). Increased excitability was characteristic of the dominant focus. An excessive increase in excitability weakened the summation reflex. Electrographically, this type of conditioning was reflected in an increase in amplitude of the primary negative wave of the direct cortical response, recorded in the motor area at a distance of 2–3 mm from the stimulation point. It is concluded from analysis of this electrophysiological phenomenon and comparison of the results with data in the literature that different mechanisms are involved in the summation process during different sequences of stimulation ("photic+electrical" and "electrical+photic").Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology, Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Moscow. The interaction between two dominant foci was carried out on different models of dominant. It was shown that the following pairs: latent motor and blinking excitation foci; hunger and hypnotic dominants, decaying polarization dominant (related with functioning of the left-hemisphere) and hypnotic dominant can function simultaneously. After repeated formation of a new dominant focus against the background of the existing stable dominant created earlier, a replacement of dominants takes place. This process passes through the stage of formation of the latent dominant not yet apparent at the behavioral level but with the electrical activity typical for the dominant focus. Actually, two dominants exist at this stage: the previous active and latent foci. The latter determines further behavior of the animal.  相似文献

A marked depression of swallowing reflex has been found in patients with aspiration pneumonia. We have examined the effects of Banxia Houpo Tang (BHT, Hange Koboku-To in Japanese), on swallowing reflex among the elderly. Thirty-two patients, mean age 74.2 +/- 1.7 years who had at least one episode of aspiration pneumonia, were divided into two groups. Twenty patients took BHT extracts of 7.5 g per day for four weeks, and the other 12 patients took a placebo. The swallowing reflex was measured by a bolus injection of 1 ml of distilled water into the pharynx through a nasal catheter. The reflex was evaluated by the latency time of response, which was the time from the injection to the onset of swallowing. The latency of response decreased significantly from 11.6 +/- 3.0 sec to 2.6 +/- 0.4 sec in the group treated with BHT (p < 0.01), while in the other group with placebo it was from 11.0 +/- 4.0 to 10.8 +/- 3.6 (p > 0.5). Depletion of substance P in the pharynx causes impairments of the swallowing reflex. Substance P in the saliva of treated patients increased from 9.2 +/- 2.5 fmol/ml to 15.0 +/- 2.2 fmol/ml after BHT treatment (p < 0.01), while levels were 8.0 +/- 4.0 fmol/ml before and 7.1 +/- 3.1 fmol/ml after among the placebo group (no significant difference). We suggest that BHT improves the impaired swallowing reflex and may help to prevent aspiration pneumonia in the elderly.  相似文献

We analyze the published information on the techniques of studies of pain sensitivity using objective electroneuromyographic approaches and the results of these studies. In particular, we describe works where the H reflex, nociceptive flexor and blinking reflexes, and exteroceptive suppression of voluntary muscle activity were examined. Some aspects of using somatosensory evoked potentials in the studies of pain phenomena are also discussed.  相似文献

Human swallowing involves the integration of sensorimotor information with complexities such as taste; however, the interaction between the taste of food and its effects on swallowing control remains unknown. We assessed the effects of pleasant (sweet) and aversive (bitter) tastes on human cortical swallowing motor pathway excitability. Healthy adult male volunteers underwent a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) mapping study (n = 9, mean age: 34 yr) to assess corticobulbar excitability before and up to 60 min after 10-min liquid infusions either 1) as swallowing tasks or 2) delivered directly into the stomach. Infusions were composed of sterile water (neutral), 10% glucose (sweet), and 0.5 mM quinine hydrochloride (bitter). The order of delivery was randomized, and each infusion was given on separate days. Pharyngeal motor-evoked potentials (PMEPs) were recorded from an intraluminal catheter as a measure of corticobulbar excitability and compared using repeated-measures and one-way ANOVA. After the swallowing task (water, glucose, or quinine), repeated-measures ANOVA revealed a significant time interaction across tastants (P 相似文献

Mechanical stimulation of the pharyngeal areas readily elicits reflex swallowing. However, it is much more difficult for electrical stimulation of the glossopharyngeal nerve (GPN) to evoke reflex swallowing than it is for stimulation of the superior laryngeal nerve (SLN) to do so. These paradoxical findings remain unexplained; hence, the main purpose of this study was to explain this contradiction by using a urethane-anesthetized rat. Mechanical stimulation easily elicited reflex swallowing from the pharynx. The posterior pillars, posterior pharyngeal wall, and the soft palate of the rat were extremely reflexogenic areas for swallowing. Sectioning the pharyngeal branch of the GPN (GPN-ph), however, eliminated the swallowing reflex from these areas. In contrast, sectioning the lingual branch of the GPN had no effect on the elicitation of swallowing. Electrical stimulation of the GPN-ph and SLN elicited sequentially occurring swallows. The relationship between stimulus frequency and the latency of swallowing for the GPN-ph was approximately the same as that for the SLN. These results indicate that the GPN-ph plays a major role in the initiation of reflex swallowing from the pharynx in rats.  相似文献

Swallowing disorder is common in Parkinson's disease (PD). We studied the swallowing disorder in PD, and tested the efficacy of Banxia Houpo Tang (BHT, a Chinese traditional medicine) in improving the swallowing reflex of PD patients. The Swallowing reflex test is a simple method used to detect swallowing disorders in patients with cerebrovascular disease. Because we observed previously that BHT significantly improved the swallowing reflex in cerebrovascular patients, we studied whether BHT was also effective in improving the swallowing disorder in patients with PD. 23 PD patients (13 males, 10 females, mean age 66.0+/-9.3, Hoehn & Yahr (H-Y) mean score = 2.8) were evaluated for swallowing reflex and the concentration of substance-P in their saliva before and after 4 weeks of BHT treatment. The swallowing reflex before treatment was significantly delayed, according to the H-Y score (Spearman's p = 0.014, R2 = 0.463). The swallowing reflex before BHT treatment was 3.66+/-0.98 sec, and after BHT treatment, it improved significantly, to 2.27+/-0.54 sec (p < 0.0001). Substance-P concentration in PD patients saliva before treatment was significantly lower than in healthy controls (p = 0.007), but showed no significant change after BHT treatment. Our research shows that the swallowing reflex is an effective method to evaluate the swallowing disorder in PD. BHT can significantly improved the swallowing reflex in PD patients, and therefore can be a hopeful candidate for preventing aspiration pneumonia in PD.  相似文献

Animal experiments have shown that the nociceptive reflex can be used as an indicator of central temporal integration in the nociceptive system. The aim of the present study on humans was to investigate whether the nociceptive reflex, evoked by repetitive strong electrical sural nerve stimuli, increased when summation was reported by the volunteers. The reflexes were recorded from the biceps femoris and rectus femoris muscles in eight volunteers following a series of stimulations at 0.1, 1, 2, and 3 Hz. Each series consisted of five consecutive stimuli. Using 0.1- and 1-Hz stimulation, the reflex was not facilitated in the course of the five consecutive stimuli. Following 2- and 3-Hz stimulation, the reflex size (root mean square amplitude) increased significantly during the course of the fifth stimulus. This reflex facilitation was followed by a significant increase (summation) in the pain magnitude when compared with 1- and 0.1-Hz stimulation. Furthermore, the threshold for psychophysical summation could be determined. This threshold (stimulus intensity) decreased when the stimulus frequency (1–5 Hz) of the five consecutive stimuli was increased. The nociceptive reflex and the psychophysical summation threshold might be used to clarify and quantify aspects of temporal summation within the human nociceptive system.  相似文献

Evoked potentials in the frog medulla to stimulation of the glossopharyngeal nerve appear on the ipsilateral side in a zone of limited area. They are recorded at depths not exceeding 2000 µ. Depending on their form the surface evoked potentials are divided into two groups, negative and positive—negative, differing from each other in their parameters and properties. During insertion of the microelectrode the phase of the negative potential is changed. The principal slow components of the responses reflect postsynaptic processes. The first fast wave of the evoked potential is regarded as the presynaptic component. Differences in the properties of the evoked potential recorded at different points are determined by the neuromorphological heterogeneity of the structures of the primary center.  相似文献

In-mouth volatile release from flavoured water was followed using atmospheric pressure chemical ionization-mass spectrometry (APCI-MS) or using a hand-held, computer-controlled device based on sequential trapping of flavours on Tenax traps. The present results verify recent in vitro data obtained with a sophisticated, fully computerized mouth model apparatus and confirm its validity for the simulation of in-mouth dynamic volatile release. In-nose APCI-MS measurements showed considerable person-to-person variability in non-trained individuals during drinking due to subconscious control of muscles during swallowing and subsequent breathing. Data showed a 'swallow breath' volume reaching the nasal cavity from the throat, not from the mouth cavity. Flavour enriched air from the mouth was shown to be transported to the nose (via exhalation) immediately after the swallowing event, but the dynamic process of volatile equilibration between residuals of the swallowed liquid and the exhaled air predominantly determined volatile in-nose concentration. Owing to its dynamic character, the process of volatile equilibration and release in the throat upon exhalation should be similar to the in-mouth process studied in the present work. A full mechanical simulation of retronasal volatile transport, however, will remain difficult.  相似文献

It is recognized that fish will drink the surrounding water by reflex swallowing without a thirst sensation. We evaluated the role of the area postrema (AP), a sensory circumventricular organ (CVO) in the medulla oblongata, in the regulation of drinking behavior of seawater (SW) eels. The antidipsogenic effects of ghrelin and atrial natriuretic peptide and hypervolemia and hyperosmolemia (1 M sucrose or 10% NaCl) as well as the dipsogenic effects of angiotensin II and hypovolemia (hemorrhage) were profoundly diminished after AP lesion (APx) in eels compared with sham controls. However, the antidipsogenic effect of urotensin II was not influenced by APx, possibly due to the direct baroreflex inhibition on the swallowing center in eels. When ingested water was drained via an esophageal fistula, water intake increased 30-fold in sham controls but only fivefold in APx eels, suggesting a role for the AP in continuous regulation of drinking by SW eels. After transfer from freshwater to SW, APx eels responded normally with an immediate burst of drinking, but after 4 wk these animals showed a much greater increase in plasma osmolality than controls, suggesting that the AP is involved in acclimation to SW by fine tuning of the drinking rate. Taken together, the AP in the hindbrain of eels plays an integral role in SW acclimation, acting as a conduit of information from plasma for the regulation of drinking, probably without a thirst sensation. This differs from mammals in which sensory CVOs in the forebrain play pivotal roles in thirst regulation.  相似文献

The following conclusions may be drawn from the results in this work. The respiratory cycles are formed by the neuronal machinery in the reticular formation under the posterior part of the vagal motor nucleus. The motor neurones or the neuronal networks composing the motor nucleus of the respiratory muscles tonically discharge the action potentials, when the neurones or the networks are released from the inhibitory influences of the interneurones connecting the neuronal machinery to the motor neurones. Furthermore, the interneurones probably generate the tonic discharges after removing the inhibitory influences of the other interneurones or the neuronal machinery on them. A reflex mouth closing is elicited by a mechanical stimulus applying on the upper lip. The motor neurones of the m. adductor mandibulae are activated via only one synapse in the reflex. The reflex action potentials recorded from the motor nerve reduce in amplitude at the resting phase of the nerve in the respiratory cycles. These results suggest that the respiratory motor neurones are by nature spontaneous generators of the tonic action potentials and, in the time of the normal breathing, the tonic activity is interrupted by an inhibitory influence of the neuronal machinery generating the respiratory cycles.  相似文献

Centrosomes direct the organization of microtubules in animal cells. However, in the absence of centrosomes, cytoplasm has the potential to organize microtubules and assemble complex structures such as anastral spindles. During cell replication or following fertilization, centrioles that are incapable of organizing microtubules into astral arrays are introduced into this complex cytoplasmic environment. These centrioles become associated with pericentriolar material responsible for centrosome-dependent microtubule nucleation, and thus the centrosome matures to ultimately become a dominant microtubule organizing center that serves as a central organizer of cell cytoplasm. We describe the identification of a novel structure within the pericentriolar material of centrosomes called the centromatrix. The centromatrix is a salt-insoluble filamentous scaffold to which subunit structures that are necessary for microtubule nucleation and abundant in the cytoplasm bind. We propose that the centromatrix serves to concentrate and focus these subunits to form the microtubule organizing center. Since binding of these subunits to the centromatrix does not require nucleotides, we propose a model for centrosome assembly which predicts that the assembly of the centromatrix is a rate-limiting step in centrosome assembly and maturation.  相似文献

The ontogenetic development of the nucleus ambiguus was studied in a series of human embryos and fetuses ranging from 3 to 12.5 weeks of menstrual age (4 to 66 mm crown-rump length). They were prepared by Nissl and silver methods. Nucleus ambiguus neuroblasts, whose neurites extend towards and into the IXth and rostral Xth nerve roots, appear in the medial motor column of 4-6-week-old embryos (4.25-11 mm). These cells then migrate laterally (6.5 weeks, 14 mm) to a position near the dorsal motor nucleus of X. At 7 weeks (15 mm), nucleus ambiguus cells begin their migration, which progresses rostrocaudally, into their definitive ventrolateral position. The basic pattern of organization of the nucleus is established in its rostral region at 8 weeks (22.2-24 mm) and extends into its caudal region by 9 weeks (32 mm), when its nearly adult organization is evident. Cells having the characteristics of mature neurons first appear rostrally in the nucleus during the 8.5-9-week period (24.5-32 mm), gradually increase in number, and constitute the entire nucleus at 12.5 weeks (65.5 mm). Definitive neuronal subgroups first appear at 10 weeks (37.5 mm) in the large rostral nuclear region. These features suggest that the human nucleus ambiguus develops along a rostrocaudal temporospatial gradient. Evidence indicates that function of nucleus ambiguus neurons, manifested by fetal reflex swallowing, occurs after the cells migrate into their definitive position, establish the definitive nuclear pattern, and exhibit mature characteristics.  相似文献

Interactions of peripheral inputs to the motoneuron of the kitten fetus as young as 3 weeks prenatal were studied by reflex discharge from the ventral root as well as by recording from single motoneurons. Facilitation was found between two synergists in fetuses 1 to 2 weeks before birth. Intracellular recording showed that the facilitation could be explained by summation of excitatory postsynaptic potentials. Inhibition was found between antagonists in the fetuses 2 to 3 weeks before birth and was accompanied by inhibitory postsynaptic potentials. Recurrent inhibition was very powerful in the fetal spinal cord as shown by large motoneuron hyperpolarization by antidromic stimulation. Cells presumed to be "Renshaw cells" and which responded to both ortho- and antidromic stimulation with repetitive firing were shown in the 2 weeks prenatal fetus. These results lead to the conclusion that there is considerable effective synaptic connection of afferent collaterals already established by the later stage of intrauterine life and that this may be achieved independently of external stimuli.  相似文献
