In recent neuromorphological investigations and in studying the passage, as an addition to nuclei of the auditory system so called "parabrachial area" was subjected to a special comparative cytoarchitectonic investigation and terminological definition, since the term "parabrachial nucleus" has already been reserved in neuromorphology to designate other brain formations. The investigation has demonstrated that the term "nucleus of the inferior quadrigemina brachium" is more suitable to the form studied. This nucleus has been stated to penetrate deeply into the inferior tuberculum corpori quadrigemina, unlike the previous notion according to which it was believed to be situated between the internal geniculate body and the inferior tuberculum corpori quadrigemina. Therefore, two parts have been distinguished in the formation in question, inherent to all the mammalia studied, including the man. One of them--extracollicular portion, though it has not been previously studied from the view of comparative architectonics, nevertheless, it has been described in literature. The other--intracollicular portion is described for the first time in the work. In spite of a close topographic-anatomical proximity with the inferior corpora quadrigemina, the intracollicular portion of the nucleus cannot be a derivative from the latter.  相似文献

Breast augmentation using the expander mammary prosthesis   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The expandable mammary prosthesis that has been successfully used for breast reconstruction has been modified for breast augmentation procedures. A new microreservoir that can be buried subcutaneously for extended periods has been developed. The unique design of this implant allows its size to be adjusted postoperatively as many times as desired, thus eliminating the possibility of a second operation to replace an implant whose size is unsatisfactory. Accurate, aesthetically satisfactory results are possible because the volume adjustments are made after the swelling has decreased and the implant has settled into position. Almost all patients offered this opportunity requested postoperative volume adjustments. The results of 59 patients are reported. The surgery was performed over a 3-year period, with the average follow-up time being 6 months. The incidence of capsular contracture has been less than 10 percent. Leakage was a problem in the original implant design; however, since the introduction of the new valve, there has been no leakage to date.  相似文献

The Southern African rhinoceros population has been dwindling through the years. A lot of effort has been put toward coming up with the most effective way of protecting the black and white rhinoceros population in the world yet still the animals remain endangered despite the enormous global efforts to protect the species. Such conservation efforts include; establishment of sanctuaries, wildlife farming, dehorning, trade and market controls, listing of species as endangered, use of biotechnology and biotelemetry. However useful, each of these methods has its own strengths and weaknesses relative to the success of rhinoceros conservation. It however has been noted in this review that dehorning is the most effective method as it involves removal of the horn hence extinguishing the need for poaching. Despite the high success rate it has also been noted that this requires a great deal of skill and finance hence limiting the application of this technique in developing nations. Sanctuaries provide an ideal breeding environment that is better than the wild and enhanced breeding accounted for a significant increase in rhinoceros population where it has been applied. It was however been conclude that a holistic conservation approach is required to conserve the African rhinoceros.  相似文献

Summary The histochemistry of the adventitious cartilage of the chick has been studied and compared with both primary cartilage and the bone on which the adventitious cartilage develops. The distribution of DNA, RNA, collagen, acid mucopolysaccharide, mucoprotein, glycogen, lipid, alkaline phosphatase and inorganic phosphate has been studied. Adventitious cartilage was found to have the histochemistry of primary hypertrophic cartilage and to calcify. The appearance of lipid and alkaline phosphatase activity coincided with the onset of calcification.The proliferating osteogenic and chondrogenic cells of the chick embryo have been classified and compared histochemically. Collagen synthesis was found to be high in the osteogenic cells and acid mucopolysaccharide and mucoprotein synthesis high in the chondrogenic cells.It has been postulated that the morphogenetic switch from osteogenesis to adventitious chondrogenesis most probably involves a change in the rate of collagen and acid mucopolysaccharide synthesis by the germinal cells of the membrane bones.  相似文献

The immunological induction of arthritis in the knee of the rabbit is well established as a model for human rheumatoid arthritis. It has the special advantage of allowing the development of the condition, and the effect of disease-modifying agents, to be followed. Attention has been focussed on the activity of glucose 6-phosphate dehydrogenase in the synovial lining cells since the fourfold elevation of this activity was shown to be fundamental in the human condition. An equal elevation of this activity has now been demonstrated in the rabbit model. Furthermore, it has been shown that the oral administration of menadione decreases this activity towards normality with a concomitant decrease in the degree of inflammation.  相似文献

Suction lipectomy of the neck has been advocated in other reports. However, because of skin laxity, a simultaneous face/neck lift has been performed usually. In this series of 49 patients, ages 18 to 73, removal of submandibular fat was performed by suction lipectomy. A simultaneous face/neck lift was not done. In addition, no skin was excised. On the contrary, the apparent excess skin was found to be required for contouring. Approximately one-third of the patients had a simultaneous chin implant. Others had different aesthetic surgical procedures performed during the same operation. The removal of neck fat by suction has proven to be more efficacious than excisional methods of lipectomy. The risks of operation have been found comparable to suction lipectomy performed in other anatomic locations.  相似文献

Motor activity circadian rhythm of 32 rats belonging to three consecutive generations of rats from a laboratory strain, has been studied. This rhythm has been registered from the day of weaning (at 21 days) to at least 30 days after. The pattern of this rhythm has been analyzed by means of a Fourier analysis, by which the daily power spectrum of each rat was obtained. Based on the mean power spectrum of each animal, the variance among the different families and generations has been calculated. Results show that the variance increases in a statistically significant way with the succeeding generations. It can be suggested that in the third generation, the characteristics of the progenitors are dispersed, confirming the genetic character of the rhythm and suggesting a multigenic character for the transmission of the circadian rhythm of motor activity.  相似文献

The initial impact of computer assisted preventive screening in general practice consultations has been monitored. The technology has not been found stressful by patients, and the power of the consultation to alleviate low arousal has been increased by computer use. No appreciable increase in the durations of consultation was detected, despite an average computer initiated input of two minutes eight seconds. The computer has successfully prompted preventive screening and health education with a sixfold increase in the number of potentially relevant procedures being mentioned. The actual information presented by the computer has been shown to be crucial, with the terminal''s mere presence an ineffective reminder. The computer terminal was used in 65% of the consultations for which it was available, which, if sustained, represents an effective screening programme for attending patients.  相似文献

Reverse gyrase was discovered more than twenty years ago. Recent biochemical and structural results have greatly enhanced our understanding of their positive supercoiling mechanism. In addition to new biochemical properties, a fine tuning of reverse gyrase regulation in response to DNA damaging agents has been recently described. These data give us a new insight in the cellular role of reverse gyrase. Moreover, it has been proposed that reverse gyrase has been implicated in genome stability.  相似文献

The myotonic dystrophy (DM) region has been recently shown to be bracketed by two key recombinant events. One recombinant occurs in a Dutch DM family, which maps the DM locus distal to the ERCC1 gene and D19S115 (pE0.8). The other recombinant event is in a French Canadian DM family, which maps DM proximal to D19S51 (p134c). To further resolve this region, we initiated a chromosome walk in a telomeric direction from pE0.8, a proximal marker tightly linked to DM, toward the genetic locus. An Alu-PCR approach to chromosome walking in a cosmid library from flow-sorted chromosome 19 was used to isolate DM region cosmids. This effort has resulted in the cloning of a 350-kb genomic contig of human chromosome 19q13.3. New genetic and physical mapping information has been generated using the newly cloned markers from this study. As a result of this new mapping information, the minimal area that is to contain the DM gene has been redefined. Approximately 200 kb of sequence between pE0.8 and the closest proximal marker to DM, pKEX0.8, that would have otherwise been screened for DM candidate genes, has been eliminated as containing the DM gene.  相似文献

The neutral protease gene of Bacillus subtilis has been cloned, and its nucleotide sequence has been determined. The cloned gene was used to create an in vitro-derived deletion mutation, which was used to replace the wild-type copy of the gene. This deletion, in combination with a deletion of the alkaline protease gene, completely abolished protease production. The loss of the proteases had no detectable effect on growth, morphology, or sporulation.  相似文献

With a view toward understanding better the mechanism of action of follitropin, an attempt was made using granulosa cells obtained from intact immature estrogenized rats to study in short-term incubations the effect of highly purified ovine follitropin on the binding of the hormone to the cells and the associated aromatase response. A modified radioimmunoassay procedure has been used to monitor unlabeled physiologically fully active follitropin bound to the cell. A linear relationship between the actual amount of hormone bound to the cells and the estradiol produced in vitro has been established. The amount of ovine follitropin bound that can elicit a half-maximal response in estrogen production was calculated to be 400 pg. The number of follitropin binding sites per cell was 375 and the Kd of binding was 3.03 × 10?10m. By the addition of ovine follitropin antiserum at different time points of a 4-h incubation period, a continual need for follitropin support for estradiol production has been established.  相似文献

The domestic water-soluble aspirin (acelisin) has been used as an anti-ischemic brain protector. The total brain ischemia has been implemented in accordance with an original technique for 17 to 35 min. The doses of acelisin from 25 to 250 mg/kg have been tested during experiments. The infusion of solutions has been carried out before ischemia, 15 min before reperfusion and just after the beginning of reperfusion. The functional status and survival of rats have been evaluated during a week. The best result has been reached with 150 mg/kg acelisin injected 30 min before ischaemia. A positive effect was reported when acelisin was used in early postischaemic period.  相似文献

Ruthenium red, a promising cationic reagent for electron microscopy (EM), has long been an important tool in histology. The reagent was initially used by botanists as a semispecific stain for pectic substances, but it has gradually been embraced by investigators in microbiology and the animal sciences as a stain for anionic glycosylated polymeric substances. Luft developed a reliable method and demonstrated that ruthenium red was a useful reagent for visualizing ultrastructural detail. Many investigators, using modifications of Luft's approach, have identified numerous applications for this important reagent. Ruthenium red has been used to show the ultrastructural detail of bacterial glycocalyces. Strong, sharp and consistent observations of this ultrastructural component of the bacterial cell have given a better understanding its fibrous anionic matrix. Any variations in staining owing to artifactual alteration of the fine delicate ultrastructural features have been overcome by incorporation of diamine lysine into ruthenium red methods, thus providing flexible processing times under less than ideal laboratory sampling conditions. Ruthenium red has broad utility in the biological sciences, and in combination with lysine, it is an excellent EM stain for enhanced visualization of bacterial glycocalyx from culture or from clinical specimens.  相似文献

The effect of exogenous ACTH on the endogenous function of the steroid-producing glands has been investigated in hamadryas baboon females depending on the level of sex hormones in the body. The content of corticosteroids and progesterone in peripheral blood plasma was measured by radioimmunoassay. It has been established that the time course of changes in the adrenal gland response to administration of a standard ACTH dose was of the same type in the different menstrual cycle phases. The inhibitory effect of ACTH on progesterone secretion in ovarian corpus luteum being active has been revealed.  相似文献

The nucleotide sugar precursor of the oleandrose units of the avermectins has been purified from a mutant of Streptomyces avermitilis, which does not synthesize any avermectins but which converts avermectin aglycones to their respective disaccharides. This precursor has been identified as dTDP-oleandrose. The purification was achieved by anion exchange and reverse phase high performance liquid chromatography. The purified nucleotide sugar had an absorption spectra characteristic of thymidine, released dTMP when treated with phosphodiesterase, and possessed an NMR spectrum in which three resonances characteristic of oleandrose were seen in addition to the thymidine signals. The enzyme, avermectin aglycone dTDP-oleandrose glycosyltransferase, which catalyzes the stepwise addition of oleandrose to the avermectin aglycones, has been demonstrated in cell-free extracts and (NH4)2SO4 fractions of cell-free extracts of S. avermitilis. The enzyme is specific for dTDP-oleandrose as the glycosyl donor but utilizes all avermectin aglycones as glycosyl acceptors. The stoichiometry between dTDP-oleandrose consumed in the reaction and oleandrose units transferred to the avermectin mono- and disaccharide was found to be 1:1.  相似文献
