The chemical structure of another metabolic product (0-2) which was isolated from the culture filtrate of Oospora astringenes was studied. This compound irritates the skins and has the constrictive actions on the tracheal muscle of the guinea pigs. It has ketone and hydroxyl groups, and thereby has been named oosponol. Antioxidant effects of tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum L.) have been studied and an association between dietary intake of tomatoes and lowered risk of cancer, neurodegenerative, and cardiovascular diseases has been suggested. Here we used magnetically treated water (MTW; 0.03–0.15 T), which promotes better germination and productivity in tomatoes, and we investigated the effects of aqueous and ethanolic (10–400 μg/ml) extracts of S. lycopersicum as potential antioxidant against 10 μM Fe(II)-induced thiobarbituric acid reactive species (TBARS) in liver and brain homogenates from rats. The ethanolic extracts from magnetically treated plants were more effective than aqueous extracts in preventing TBARS formation in brain and liver. The protective effects of ethanolic extract can be associated with antioxidants (polyphenols and flavonoids), lycopene and other lipophilic components found in the extract. In effect, magnetically treated plants had higher content of polyphenolic and flavonoid compounds than nontreated plants and they can be a better source of antioxidants than nontreated plants. Consequently, MTW can be used to produce functional foods with high contents of antioxidant components and may have better beneficial health effects than traditionally produced foods.  相似文献

Sulochrin oxidase is a blue copper-containing glycoenzyme that catalyzes a stereospecific formation of bisdechlorogeodin from sulochrin. The enzyme has been isolated from Penicillium frequentans and Oospora sulphureaochracea which catalyzes the formation of (+)-form and (-)-form of bisdechlorogeodin respectively. The Penicillium enzyme has a molecular weight of 157,000 and contains 19.5% of carbohydrates. Amino acid and carbohydrate compositions are given. The enzyme has probably a dimeric structure containing 6 Cu-atoms. Apparent K m-values of various substrates are presented. The Oospora enzyme has a molecular weight of 128,000 and except for its stereospecificity its properties are very similar to those of the Penicillium enzyme.  相似文献

The wild relatives of modern tomato crops are native to South America. These plants occur in habitats as different as the Andes and the Atacama Desert and are, to some degree, all susceptible to fungal pathogens of the genus Alternaria. Alternaria is a large genus. On tomatoes, several species cause early blight, leaf spots and other diseases. We collected Alternaria-like infection lesions from the leaves of eight wild tomato species from Chile and Peru. Using molecular barcoding markers, we characterized the pathogens. The infection lesions were caused predominantly by small-spored species of Alternaria of the section Alternaria, like A. alternata, but also by Stemphylium spp., Alternaria spp. from the section Ulocladioides and other related species. Morphological observations and an infection assay confirmed this. Comparative genetic diversity analyses show a larger diversity in this wild system than in studies of cultivated Solanum species. As A. alternata has been reported to be an increasing problem in cultivated tomatoes, investigating the evolutionary potential of this pathogen is not only interesting to scientists studying wild plant pathosystems. It could also inform crop protection and breeding programs to be aware of potential epidemics caused by species still confined to South America.  相似文献

Aims: In this study, the potential of calcium chloride (CaCl2) application to improve the efficacy of the marine antagonist Rhodosporidium paludigenum in controlling postharvest diseases of cherry tomatoes was assessed. Methods and Results: CaCl2 alone was found not to have any direct influence on the population growth of R. paludigenum in NYDB cultures or in cherry tomato wounds. However, the combined treatments with 1 × 108 cells ml?1R. paludigenum and CaCl2 at the concentration from 0·5 to 2% showed high activities to reduce black rot caused by Alternaria alternata in cherry tomato wounds, significantly higher than those of R. paludigenum or CaCl2 alone. Meanwhile, 0·5% CaCl2 in combination with 1 × 108 cells ml?1R. paludigenum greatly inhibited the natural decay of cherry tomatoes in 21 days’ storage at 25°C. Conclusions: The combination of R. paludigenum and CaCl2 enhances the inhibition of black rot and natural decay of postharvest cherry tomatoes. The results from this study provide a new way to improve the efficiency of R. paludigenum in maintaining the quality of postharvest fruits and vegetables. Significance and Impact of the Study: The marine yeast R. paludigenum combined with CaCl2 has greatly potential use as an alternative to chemical fungicides in inhibiting postharvest decay on cherry tomatoes.  相似文献

Tympanosporium parasiticum forms annellated conidiogenous cells with short cylindric (tympaniform) conidia in white sporodochia on Tubercularia vulgaris Tode ex Fr. On agar media the conidia form short necks and blow out narrow secondary conidia in a phialidic manner producing very restricted yeast-like colonies. Only in the vicinity of the host hyphae (without tropic growth or hyphal connections) mycelia develop which form phialidic or annellate conidiogenous cells with narrowly cylindrical conidia in the agar, and sporodochia with short truncate conidia like those on the natural substrate in the aerial mycelium. No other host fungus was found to support this kind of growth. The mode of parasitism is compared with that of other hyperparasitic fungi.For Tympanosporium parasiticum the name Oospora candidula Sacc. was incorrectly used by Grove (1885) and the name Oospora filamentosa was proposed by Arnaud but never published.  相似文献

Summary Four homogeneous strains ofCoremiella from human feces were studied from morpho-cultural and biological standpoint. Direct uptake of organic nitrogen (ON) compounds, rather than inorganic N, by plant roots has been hypothesized to constitute a significant pathway for plant nutrition. The aim of this study was to test whether tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum cv. Huying932) can take up ON directly from the soil by using 15NH4Cl, K15NO3, 1, 2-13C215N-glycine labeling techniques. The 13C and 15N in the plants increased significantly indicating that a portion of the glycine-N was taken up in the form of intact amino acids by the tomatoes within 48 h after injection into the soil. Regression analysis of excess 13C against excess 15N showed that approximately 21% of the supplied glycine-N was taken up intact by the tomatoes. Atom% excesses of 15N and 13C in the roots were higher than in any shoots. Results also indicated rapid turnover of amino acids (e.g., glycine) by soil microorganisms, and the poor competitive ability of tomatoes in absorbing amino acids from the soil solution. This implies that tomatoes can take up ON in an intact form from the soil despite the rapid turnover of organic N usually found under such conditions. Given the influence of climatic change and N pollution, further studies investigating the functional ecological implications of ON in horticultural ecosystems are warranted.  相似文献

Recent Advances in Genetics of Salt Tolerance in Tomato   总被引:13,自引:0,他引:13  
Salinity is an important environmental constraint to crop productivity in arid and semi-arid regions of the world. Most crop plants, including tomato, Lycopersicon esculentum Mill., are sensitive to salinity throughout the ontogeny of the plant. Despite considerable research on salinity in plants, there are only a few instances where salt-tolerant cultivars have been developed. This is due in part to the complexity of the trait. A plant's response to salt stress is modulated by many physiological and agronomical characteristics, which may be controlled by the actions of several to many genes whose expressions are influenced by various environmental factors. In addition, salinity tolerance is a developmentally regulated, stage-specific phenomenon; tolerance at one stage of plant development is often not correlated with tolerance at other stages. Specific ontogenic stages should be evaluated separately for the assessment of tolerance and the identification, characterization, and utilization of useful genetic components. In tomato, genetic resources for salt tolerance have been identified largely within the related wild species, and considerable efforts have been made to characterize the genetic controls of tolerance at various developmental stages. For example, the inheritance of several tolerance-related traits has been determined and quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with tolerance at individual developmental stages have been identified and characterized. It has been determined that at each stage salt tolerance is largely controlled by a few QTLs with major effects and several QTLs with smaller effects. Different QTLs have been identified at different developmental stages, suggesting the absence of genetic relationships among stages in tolerance to salinity. Furthermore, it has been determined that in addition to QTLs which are population specific, several QTLs for salt tolerance are conserved across populations and species. Research is currently underway to develop tomatoes with improved salt tolerance throughout the ontogeny of the plant by pyramiding QTLs through marker-assisted selection (MAS). Transgenic approaches also have been employed to gain a better understanding of the genetics of salt tolerance and to develop tomatoes with improved tolerance. For example, transgenic tomatoes with overexpression of a single-gene-controlled vacuolar Na+/H+ antiport protein, transferred from Arabidopsis thaliana, have exhibited a high level of salt tolerance under greenhouse conditions. Although transgenic plants are yet to be examined for field salt tolerance and salt-tolerant tomatoes are yet to be developed by MAS, the recent genetic advances suggest a good prospect for developing commercial cultivars of tomato with enhanced salt tolerance in near future.  相似文献

Salmonella enterica and its serovars have been associated with pathogen contamination of tomatoes with numerous outbreaks of salmonellosis. To improve food safety, pathogen control is of immediate concern. The aim of this research was to assess the populations of natural microflora (aerobic mesophilic bacteria, lactic acid bacteria, yeasts and moulds and Pseudomonas species) on tomatoes, and evaluate the efficacy of Pseudomonas fluorescens (Pf) and Pseudomonas chlororaphis (Pc) for inactivation of Salmonella on tomatoes. Microflora were determined on sanitised and unsanitised produce and enumerated on Plate Count Agar, de Man, Rogosa and Sharpe medium, Potato Dextrose Agar and Pseudomonas Agar F media. The efficacy of Pc and Pf for inactivation of S. enterica serovars Montevideo, Typhimurium and Poona was determined on spot-inoculated tomato stem scars. The effects of storage time on bacterial populations were also investigated. On unsanitised tomatoes, lactic acid bacteria, Pseudomonas sp., aerobic mesophilic bacteria and yeasts and moulds ranged from 3.31–4.84, 3.93–4.77, 4.09–4.80 and 3.83–4.67 log CFU/g of produce, respectively. The microflora were similar at 0 and 24 storage hours on sanitised produce. The suppression of Salmonella Montevideo by P. chlororaphis and P. fluorescens on tomatoes ranged from 0.51 to 2.00 log CFU/g of produce. On Salmonella Montevideo and S. Typhimurium, the suppressive effects ranged from 0.51 to 0.95 and 0.46 to 2.00 log CFU/g of produce, respectively. The pathogen suppressive effects may be attributed to competition ability of Pseudomonas relative to Salmonella strains. Pseudomonas strains may be effective against Salmonella strains as a post-harvest application, but strain synergy is required to optimise pathogen reductions.  相似文献

Culturable leaf-associated bacteria inhabiting a plant have been considered as promising biological control agent (BCA) candidates because they can survive on the plant. We investigated the relationship between bacterial groups of culturable leaf-associated bacteria on greenhouse- and field-grown tomato leaves and their antifungal activities against tomato diseases in vitro and in vivo. In addition, the isolated bacteria were analyzed for N-acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) and indole-3-acetic acid (IAA) production, which have been reported to associate with bacterial colonization, and resistance to a tomato alkaloid (α-tomatine). Leaf washings and subsequent leaf macerates were used to estimate the population size of epiphytic and more internal bacteria. Bacterial population sizes on leaves at the same position increased as the leaves aged under both greenhouse and field conditions. Field-grown tomatoes had significantly larger population sizes than greenhouse-grown tomatoes. Analysis of 16S rRNA gene (rDNA) sequencing using 887 culturable leaf-associated bacteria revealed a predominance of the Bacillus and Pseudomonas culturable leaf-associated bacterial groups on greenhouse- and field-grown tomatoes, respectively. Curtobacterium and Sphingomonas were frequently recovered from both locations. From the 2138 bacterial strains tested, we selected several strains having in vitro antifungal activity against three fungal pathogens of tomato: Botrytis cinerea, Fulvia fulva, and Alternaria solani. Among bacterial strains with strong in vitro antifungal activities, Bacillus and Pantoea tended to show strong antifungal activities, whereas Curtobacterium and Sphingomonas were not effective. The results indicated the differences in antifungal activity among predominant bacterial groups. Analysis of α-tomatine resistance revealed that most bacterial strains in the dominant groups exhibited moderate or high resistance to α-tomatine in growth medium. Furthermore, some Sphingomonas and Pantoea strains showed AHL and IAA production activities. Strain 125NP12 (Pantoea ananatis) showed particular α-tomatine resistance, and AHL and IAA production had the highest protective value (91.7) against gray mold. Thus, the differences of these physiological properties among dominant bacteria may be associated with the disease suppression ability of BCAs on tomato plants.  相似文献

Investigation was made on the mycological properties of a species of Oospora which was isolated from the air of bronchial asthma patient’s room, Tokyo, Japan.

This species was considered to be a new one and named as Oospora astringenes nov. sp. On the malt extract glucose agar at room temperature, the colonies appear velvety, powdery and white. Conidia are ellipsoidal or cylindrical, mostly 7.0×4.3 µ in size, hyaline.

This new species utilizes only organic compounds as a sole source of nitrogen and its growth is markedly stimulated by the addition of some vitamins.  相似文献

Inoculation of seed potato tubes with Verticillium nubilum produced infection on the underground stem bases to subsequent growth in the form of brown lesions, often accompanied by longitudinal or transverse cracking. Some inoculation tests provided further evidence of a causal relationship between infection with V. nubilum and coiled sprout, but it was not possible to define the conditions in which the fungus gave rise to coiling. Seed tubers sprouted in light before planting produced more coiling than unsprouted or desprouted tubers. Sprouting had this effect whether V. numbilum was present or not and coiling induced by sprouting and that induced by V. nubilum occurred independently. The increased coiling of stem bases from sprouted tubers was often accompanied by fasciation, whereas this symptom was not usually associated with the coiling from unsprouted or desprouted seed tubers inoculated with the fungus. Brown lesions associated with V. nubilum were readily distinguishable from those of Rhizoctonia solani but not from those caused by Oospora pustulans. Neither of these fungi was found to cause coiling. Different varieties of potatoes showed differences in the incidence of coiling in response to sprouting treatment. There was no apparent differences in varietal response to infection by V. nubilum.  相似文献

为探讨人工巨尾桉林叶片挥发物对周边农作物的化感作用,采用不同质量新鲜巨尾桉叶片及由新鲜叶片提取的桉叶油对玉米、辣椒、西红柿等三种植物种子进行处理,观测其种子萌发和幼苗生长状况。结果表明:(1)在三种被测植物中,桉树叶片挥发物对玉米种子萌发影响最小,对辣椒影响最大;(2)当叶片用量小于200g时,桉树叶片挥发物对三种植物种子萌发影响不明显,当叶片用量达400g时,能完全抑制辣椒、西红柿种子萌发,并能极显著降低玉米种子萌发(P0.01);(3)玉米幼苗芽生长随叶片用量的增加呈现先促进后抑制现象,对芽高、鲜重、干重的促进和抑制均达到显著(P0.05)或极显著水平(P0.01);(4)当叶片用量小于或等于100g时,桉树叶片挥发物对辣椒、西红柿幼苗生长影响不明显,当用量达到200g时则能极显著抑制辣椒、西红柿幼苗生长;(5)桉叶油对三种测试植物的抑制效果与叶片自然挥发物相似,且效果更显著。  相似文献

Summary Plots receiving three rates of nitrogen and potassium in factorial combination, cropped successively with lettuce and tomatoes, have been used to study the composition of the soil solution by means of in situ samplers. The electrical conductivity, potassium and nitrate-nitrogen contents of the soil solutions were highly correlated with the corresponding data from conventional soil extracts. The proportion of unevenly ripened tomatoes was equally well correlated with the potassium content of the soil solution (r = –0.91) and soil extracts (r = –0.90).Used in conjunction with accepted values of soil analysis, regression equations indicated concentrations of about 130 and 430 ppm K in the soil solution as suitable for flower crops and tomatoes respectively, together with 180–290 ppm NO3-N.  相似文献
