This is essentially a preliminary report on the revision ofsubgenus Lissachatina of the African land snail family Achatinidae.It extends the conchological revisionary work of J.C. Bequaert(1950) along the complementary line of comparative anatomicalstudies of the reproductive tracts. This is directed towardthe goal of a better understanding of phylo-geny in this family.Species emphasized are Achatina albopicta E.A. Smith,1878; A.allisa Reeve, 1849; A. fulica Bowdich, 1822; A. loveridgei Clench& Archer, 1930; A. zanzibarica Bourguignat, 1879, and thenew species A. eleanorae. Relegated tosynonymy are A. albicansPfeiffer, 1851; A. delorioli Bonnet, 1864; and A. iredalei Preston,1910. Tangible anatomical characters separate subgenera Lissachatinaand Achatina. A. capelloi Furtado, 1886; A. craveni E.A. Smith,1881; and A. connollyi Preston, 1912 are transferred from Lissachatinato Achatina s.s. Other transfers are in progress. 从广州郊区罗岗的桑园及菜地捕捉到的桑兰叶甲Mimastra cyanura Hope成虫体中分离到一种卵圆形的微孢子虫(简称Mic-Ⅰ)。孢子大小为(3.35±0.46)×(1.96±0.17) μm;孢子具单核、双核两种类型;极丝10~11圈;孢子表面抗原的血清学类型与家蚕微粒子虫Nosema bombycis孢子不同;在家蚕Bombyx mori体内以两种不同的生活史发育,发育过程符合变态孢虫属Vairimorpha微孢子虫发育特征。Mic-Ⅰ微孢子虫对家蚕具强病原性,对斜纹夜蛾Prodenia litura和小菜蛾Plutella xylostella也有感染能力。  相似文献

大豆蚜 Aphis hlycines 有翅和无翅孤雌生殖蚜为其寄主植物大豆叶和鼠李叶气味所引诱,而非寄主植物棉花叶和黄瓜叶气味处于中性,丝瓜叶和南瓜叶气味具有明显的排斥作用。非寄主植物气味可以遮蔽寄主植物气味的引诱作用。大豆蚜触角感受器对植物气味具有嗅觉生理反应,对一些化合物的最小感觉阈值达10-5至10-6体积比浓度,表明大豆蚜触角上存在识别植物气味的嗅觉受体细胞。由此证明,嗅觉在大豆蚜选择寄主植物过程中起重要作用。  相似文献

A terminal shoot of Lepidophloios with both external morphologyand anatomy preserved is described. It is compared to the compressionspecies L. scoticus and the permineralized species L. scottiiand L. wuenschianus, all from the Lower Carboniferous of Scotland.It is characterized by the leaves having been abscissed rightup to the stem apex and by the occurrence of deflected and overlappingleaf cushions near the apex. The seasonal succession of copepod species was studied fromNovember 1976 through October 1978 in the Swartkops and Sundaysriver estuaries. South Africa. Acartia natalensis appeared inthe plankton in spring and reaches maximum abundance duringsummer and autumn. It was replaced by A. longipatella in lateautumn which reached maximum abundance in winter and spring.Cycles of dominance are regulated by the interaction of temperature,salinity and competition between the two species. A natalensis a more tolerant of low salinity and the replacementof A. longipatella by A. natalensis starts in the upper estuaryand spreads seawards. Maximum abundance of A. natalensis isattained in water of lower salinity than in the case of A. longipatella.In the Sundays estuary A. natalensis appeared briefly in thelatter half of the study and in the upper and middle estuaryonly. In the lower estuary A. longipatella was present duringall seasons. This was due to the absence of competition fromA. natalensis, high salinity and lower summer temperatures dueto marine influence. A third species of copepod, Pseudodiaptomushessei functions as a pioneer species, exploiting "new water"after flooding or strong fresh water inflow. High abundancemay therefore occur during any season and no competition betweenP. hessei and either species of Acartia was observed.  相似文献

微粒体细胞色素P450氧化酶介导的解毒代谢增强是棉铃虫Helicoverpa armigera对拟除虫菊酯类杀虫剂产生抗性的主要原因。作者前期的研究表明, CYP9A12CYP9A14组成型过量表达与棉铃虫YGF品系对拟除虫菊酯的高水平抗性相关, CYP9A12CYP9A14的功能表达研究结果为其参与对拟除虫菊酯抗性提供了直接证据。本研究通过对棉铃虫CYP9A17v2的克隆、mRNA表达水平和功能表达的研究, 以期明确该基因是否参与棉铃虫对拟除虫菊酯的抗性。结果表明: CYP9A17v2CYP9A12的氨基酸序列具有很高的相似性(94%)。与棉铃虫对照品系(YG)相比, CYP9A17v2在YGF抗性品系末龄幼虫脂肪体中具有10.9倍的组成型过量表达, 而在中肠中未发现过量表达。用酿酒酵母Saccharomyces cerevisiae异源表达的CYP9A17v2能够代谢多种拟除虫菊酯(顺式氰戊菊酯、溴氰菊酯和氟氯氰菊酯)。据此认为CYP9A17v2组成型过量表达参与了棉铃虫对拟除虫菊酯的抗性。至此, CYP9A亚家族中已有3个P450基因(CYP9A12, CYP9A14 CYP9A17v2)被证实参与了棉铃虫对拟除虫菊酯的氧化解毒代谢。  相似文献

Background and Aims: The grass Alloteropsis semialata is the only plant species withboth C3 and C4 subspecies. It therefore offers excellent potentialas a model system for investigating the genetics, physiologyand ecological significance of the C4 photosynthetic pathway.Here, a molecular phylogeny of the genus Alloteropsis is constructedto: (a) confirm the close relationship between the C3 and C4subspecies of A. semialata; and (b) infer evolutionary relationshipsbetween species within the Alloteropsis genus. Methods: The chloroplast gene ndhF was sequenced from 12 individuals,representing both subspecies of A. semialata and all four ofthe other species in the genus. ndhF sequences were added tothose previously sequenced from the Panicoideae, and used toconstruct a phylogenetic tree. Key Results: The phylogeny confirms that the two subspecies of A. semialataare among the most recently diverging lineages of C3 and C4taxa currently recognized within the Panicoideae. Furthermore,the position of the C3 subspecies of A. semialata within theAlloteropsis genus is consistent with the hypothesis that itsphysiology represents a reversion from C4 photosynthesis. Thedata point to a similar evolutionary event in the Panicum stenodesP.caricoidesP. mertensii clade. The Alloteropsis genusis monophyletic and occurs in a clade with remarkable diversityof photosynthetic biochemistry and leaf anatomy. Conclusions: These results confirm the utility of A. semialata as a modelsystem for investigating C3 and C4 physiology, and provide moleculardata that are consistent with reversions from C4 to C3 photosynthesisin two separate clades. It is suggested that further phylogeneticand functional investigations of the Alloteropsis genus andclosely related taxa are likely to shed new light on the mechanismsand intermediate stages underlying photosynthetic pathway evolution.  相似文献

Grain: leaf ratio, G (the ratio of grain yield to leaf areaduration between ear emergence and maturity), in 15 experimentson wheat and barley in different seasons (Group A experiments)was highly correlated with mean daily radiation, R, mean dailytemperature, Tµ, and mean daily maximum temperature, Tmax,during the grain growth period. The regression of G on R accountedfor 81 per cent of the variance of G, and introducing Tµto the regression significantly increased this to 88 per cent.The regression of G on Tmax alone accounted for 87 per cent,perhaps because Tmax effectively integrates radiation and temperature. When R was varied artificially by shades in two experimentson wheat in different years (Group B experiments) the relationshipbetween G and R was approximately linear in both, but the slopeof the line was less in one year, when R and temperature wereless, than in the other. For this second year, when R and temperatureswere about the middle of the ranges found in Group A experiments,the calculated relationship agrees with the Group A resultsafter correcting values of G for differences of Tu from itsvalue in the shading experiment. A formula relating G and Rderived from the results of both Group B experiments and theobserved correlation of R and temperature in the field, assumingthat the regression of G on R depends on temperature, agreeswith the relationship between G and R in the Group A experiments. It is concluded that differences in radiation and temperatureare about equally responsible for the differences in G foundbetween seasons. The positive effect of temperature on G suggeststhat factors other than leaf photosynthesis, e.g. translocationrate or capacity of the grain to accumulate carbohydrate, areimportant in determining G.  相似文献

The distribution of stomata has been investigated in the leafepidermis of Chlorophytum comosum, Galanthus nivalis, Schizostyliscoccinea and Scilla lancifolia. The epidermis was consideredto consist of units of construction of two kinds: type A, along epidermal cell with a stoma at its distal end, and typeB, a long epidermal cell without an associated stoma. Exceptin Scilla, the probability of an epidermal unit being type Aincreases approximately with its length. Considering the epidermisas rows of units, alternating sequences of type A and type Bdo not occur randomly along the rows. In Chlorophytum, Galanthusand Schizostylis, both type A and B units tend to be aggregatedinto longer sequences than would be expected on a random basis.It is suggested that homoeogenetic induction (i.e. of like bylike) may be occurring during development. No case can be madefor homoeogenetic induction of units in Scilla. There is a slighttendency to periodicity of distribution of type A units in Galanthus,Schizostylis and Scilla, but this does not seem to representa primary element of pattern. There is interaction between rowsin the sense that unit ends (transverse walls) tend to avoidthose in neighbour rows; this affects the relative distributionof stomata, but there is no evidence of any direct interactionbetween stomata in different rows. Isolated root cultures which could be maintained over severalmonths by serial subculture were established from Brassica oleraceavar. italica cv. Green Comet F1. A modified White's medium wasfound to be the best of several salt compositions tested. Theeffects on isolated root growth of the following were also examined;nutritional components, culture vessel type and closure, pHof the medium and auxin type and concentration. Using a mediumdevised for Green Comet, root cultures were established fromsix other B. oleracea, B. napus and B. campestris cultivars. It was possible to regenerate shoots from segments of culturedroots by incubation on agar-solidified media containing cytokininand auxin. The effects on regeneration of various auxins andcytokinins were investigated; the combination of Picloram withKN gave the highest frequency of shoot formation. It was demonstratedthat isolated roots retained their regenerative ability overa period of 5 months in culture. A spontaneously occurring somatic mutant of Triticum turgidumdicoccoides showed close morphological resemblance to T. timopheevi(AAGO). The hybrid between the mutant and the T. turgidum dicoccoides‘ mother’ plant was completely sterile, with verylow pollen fertility (0·33 percent). It exhibited a reasonablyhigh frequency of trivalents and quadrivalents at first metaphaseof meiosis, indicating that the mutation involved substantiallevels of chromosome rearrangement. The hybrid between the mutantand T. timopheevi had reasonably high fertility (53·5per cent) and high pollen fertility (86·6 per cent) andalmost regular bivalent formation at first metaphase of meiosis. It is proposed that T. timopheevi could have arisen in consequenceof somatic macromutation from T. turgidum dicoccoides givingrise to spontaneous speciation. The G genome of T. timopheeviis possibly monophyletic in origin, arising from rearrangementof chromosomes of the B genome of tetraploid wheat. Experiments with the copepods Acartia clausi, Centropages hamatusand Pseudocalanus sp. were performed to assess the species-specificeffect of these copepods on the development of monospecificalgae (Nephroselmis pyriformis) and ciliate communities (Strombidiumvestitum, Strombidium conicum, Strombidium sp. and Lohmanniellaoviformis). It was hypothesized that potentially switching copepodslike A. clausi will stabilize the algal community by switchingbetween ciliate and algal food, in contrast to copepods withstereotypic filter feeding behaviour (Pseudocalanus sp.). Intreatments with Pseudocalanus sp. and C. hamatus, all ciliatespecies were wiped out in 2 days, resulting in blooms of N.pyriformis. In treatments with A. clausi, two of the ciliatespecies were able to persist, but the combined ciliate and copepodcommunity was not able to control the algal bloom. Ciliatesbecame abundant in control treatments without copepods, butonly S. vestitum and S. conicum seemed able to establish grazingcontrol. Hence, when evaluating the role of ciliates in foodwebs, their actual numbers and species composition should betaken into account. Likewise, the species composition of copepodsmay be crucial; these experiments demonstrate that small filterfeeding copepods may have tremendous impact on ciliate numbers.  相似文献

It is suggested that dry-weight accumulation, productivity ofunit leaf area and leaf-growth be measured by the availablelight energy instead of time scale. Potential photosynthesis(ap), as calculated by de Wit, is considered to be the mostsuitable form. The implementation of the new technique is discussedand the characteristics thereby obtained denoted as PhotosyntheticProductivity (PP), Leaf Area Efficiency (LEF), and Leaf AreaExtension Rate (LEX) respectively. The above technique was adoptedby the author in some experiments and the results conform withthe expectation. The critical leaf area varies with the angleof sun above the horizon. The Photosynthetic Productivity liesbetween the limits 0–0.95. It increases with increasingleaf area until its maximum, while LEF decreases from 0.95 downwards.LEX is greater at low light values, especially with higher temperatures. It is suggested that the critical leaf area index (Le), by whichthe highest productivity could be obtained if it could be maintainedunaltered, should be distinguished from the leaf area indexwhich provides the most favourable PP during any undisturbedgrowing period, and the latter may be called optimal leaf areaindex (Lo). A procedure based on growth analysis by light scale is described,by which more appropriate evaluation and comparison of grassspecies and varieties may be achieved.  相似文献

Nuclear DNA content (2C-value), estimated through flow cytometryusing propidium iodide (PI), was shown to vary from 36.5 pgto 78.9 pg among 29 accessions of 12Alstroemeria species (2n=2x =16). The extremes were found inA. magnifica ssp.magnificaand inA. ligtu ssp.simsii , both belonging to the Chilean speciesgroup. The four Brazilian species exhibited less variation innuclear DNA content (49.8–56.4 pg), than the eight Chileanspecies (36.5–78.9 pg). Nuclear DNA content was positivelycorrelated (r =0.92,n =7,P <0.01) with the total chromosomelength. It was also positively correlated (r =0.85,n =5,P <0.01)with the length of C-bands, when only the Chilean species wereconsidered. When both karyotype parameters, length of non-C-bandedchromosome regions (x) and length of C-bands (y) were determined,it was possible to predict the nuclear DNA content (z) withthe formula z=0.65x +1.31y-0.45 (R 2=0.97,P =0.004). The DAPI fluorescence of most accessions was proportional tothe PI fluorescence (r =0.98,P <0.001), except for one accessionofA. ligtu , that had a relatively high PI/DAPI ratio (1.88).The PI/DAPI ratios of the Brazilian species were lower (1.59–1.67)than those of the Chilean species (1.68–1.88), which mightreflect a difference in base pair composition. Four groups ofspecies could be distinguished on the basis of fluorescencevalues. Diploid interspecific hybrids were shown to have a DNAcontent intermediate to the values of the parents involved.Both the PI and the DAPI fluorescence values of these hybridsapproximated the mid parent values. Tetraploids, derived fromselfing of diploids, had PI and DAPI fluorescence values thatwere twice that of the diploid hybrids. It was possible to distinguishaneuploids from euploids based on fluorescence values. This account reports on recruitment, growth and population structureof the macroherbivorous gastropod Helcion pellucidum (L.) onan exposed rocky shore in S.E. Ireland, with particular referenceto the pellucidum form. Recently settled Helcion spat were foundinitially on living crustose lithothamnia in pools and on openrock, on the lower shore, during February-April and subsequentlyrecruited to macro-algal fronds. By May they were found in abundanceon Mastocarpus stellatus and Laminaria spp. Helcion was markedlyseasonal in its occurrence on Mastocarpus, being most abundantduring May-August. A complementary pattern was evident on growingHimanthalia receptacles, with limpets abundant from July onwards.It is suggested that Helcion may migrate from Mastocarpus toHimanthalia as they grow. A silicified stem from the Ischigualasto Formation (Trias) innorthern Argentina, is described and named Michelilloa waltoniinov. gen. et spec. It is compared with fossil stems of the generaCycadeoidea and Bucklandia, and with the living Cycadales. Acombination of characters (in particular the indumentum of longfilamentous hairs, multiseriate bordered pitting of the xylemtracheids, and the structure of the leaf gap and leaf tracebundle which are exactly similar to those of the cycad Dioonspinulosum) suggests that Michelilloa is an early representativeof the Cycadales.  相似文献

A cytochemical and biochemical study of acid phosphatases inroots of Vicia faba using p-nitrophenylphosphate(p-NPP) as substratehas shown the lack of specificity of the substrate which canbe acted upon by a K+-activated acyl phosphatase, nucleotidepyrophosphatase, glucox-6-phosphatase, 5' (3')-ribonucleotidephosphohydrolase, nucleotide phosph-transferase and those acidphosphatases demonstrable with ß-glycerophosphate.It is suggested that care should be taken in the interpretationof both biochemical and cytochemical studies employing sucha non-specific substrate as P-NPP. Copepod grazing on the toxic dinofiagellate Dinophysis acuminatafrom the west coast of France (La Rochelle) was studied witha concentrated (40–70 µm) phytoplankton assemblagedominated by Leptocylindrus danicus, D.acuminata, Ceratium fususand Ceratium furca. Copepod nauplii were also present. Threeto five copepods/copepodites (Acartia clausi, Isias clavipesand Centropages typicus) were incubated together with the phytoplankton.Dinophysis acuminata was grazed upon by all copepod species.However, to some extent, I.clavipes and C.typicus avoided itas food. Dinophysis acuminata cells represented for them only5–10% of total ingested carbon during the first 24 h,and almost all individuals survived and thrived well. In contrast,A.clausi did not avoid D.acuminata. which represented 30% ofingested carbon in 1 day. Acartia clausi then had a lower survivalthan the two other copepod species. However, the survival ofA.clausi was high in control incubations, where a plankton communitywithout D.acuminata was used as food. It is concluded that theokadaic acid of D acuminata is potentially toxic to some grazers,and/or might function as an allelopathic grazer repellent.  相似文献

I am indebted to Mr. Bryant Walker, of Detroit, Michigan, forthis correction. In giving the date of the publication of Say'sAmpullaria paludosa as 1840, I find I was referring to a reprint,the name having been published in 1829 as a substitute for A.depressa, preoccupied by Lamarck for a fossil species.
