The effect of various pre-treatments and their interaction with temperature on cumulative percentage and the rate of germination were evaluated for Digitaria nuda. Stored and fresh seeds were pre-treated with either 0.02 M KNO3, soaked in water for 24 h (priming), sterilized with 0.5% NaOCl or heat treated at 60 °C. Seeds were germinated at constant temperatures of 25 and 30 °C and fluctuating temperature regimes of 25/10 and 30/15 °C. The effect of pre-chilling on germination of stored and fresh seed was evaluated at 30/15 °C, and seed emergence in two soil types at different burial depths (0, 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6 cm) was also determined. The pre-treatment of stored seed with KNO3 resulted in the highest germination percentage (100%), whereas the pre-treatment of fresh seed with water for 24 h gave the best germination (99%), at constant temperatures of 25 and 30 °C. Pre-chilling of seed increased germination by more than 30%. Emergence from clay loam soil was greater compared with the emergence from sandy loam soil. Total seedling emergence decreased exponentially with increasing burial depths with only 5% of seed germinating from a burial depth of 6 cm. Results from this study showed that germination requirements are species specific and knowledge of factors influencing germination and emergence of grass weed seed can assist in predicting flushes in emergence allowing producers to implement control practices more effectively.  相似文献

The tropical conifer Widdringtonia whytei Rendle is an endangered species endemic to Mulanje Mountain in Malawi. A study was conducted for the first time under controlled conditions in order to assess the effects of temperature and light on germination and viability of W. whytei seeds. Seeds incubated at a constant temperature of 20 °C attained the highest cumulative germination percentage (100%) followed by 87% germination under fluctuating temperatures of 15 °C night/25 °C day. No seed germination occurred at temperatures below 15 °C. Seeds that failed to germinate at temperatures below 15 °C showed the highest (> 90%) viability compared to the seeds incubated at 25 °C (60%). Across temperature regimes, germination was significantly higher under light (44.7%) than dark (35.6%) conditions. It is concluded that temperature is one of the critical factors for germination of W. whytei seed. The ability of W. whytei seeds to germinate both in light and darkness implies that the species would unlikely form a persistent soil seed bank, an attribute which is common in species that survive in habitats frequently disturbed by fires.  相似文献

The effects of time of seed maturation and dry seed storage and of light and temperature requirements during seed incubation on final germination percentage and germination rate were assessed for the invasive shrub Prosopis juliflora (Sw.) D.C., grown under desert environmental conditions of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Seeds were collected from Fujira on the northern coast of the UAE at different times during the growing seasons (autumn, winter and spring) and were germinated immediately and after 8 months of dry storage under room temperature (20±3 °C). Seeds were germinated at three temperatures (15, 25 and 40 °C) in both continuous light and darkness. The results showed significant effects for time of seed collection, seed storage, light and temperature of seed incubation and many of their interactions on both germination percentage and rate. Fresh seeds matured during autumn and winter germinated significantly greater at 40 °C and in light than at lower temperatures and in dark. Storage significantly increased germination percentage and rate; the increase was greater for seeds matured during winter than for seeds matured during spring. This indicates that dormancy breakage was greater in seeds of winter than seeds of spring. The need for high temperature to achieve greater germination was significantly reduced after seed storage, especially for seeds matured in autumn and winter.  相似文献

Prunus dulcis L. ‘Mamaei’ is grown widely in souhtwest of Iran. It blooms in early spring when temperatures are still low. Based on our knowledge there are no reports in the literature regarding pollen behavior of this cultivar under specified condition. Thus, the possible factors for low germination percentage in this cultivar have not been reported. The effect of three different temperatures (10, 25, or 35 °C), polyamines (putrescine, spermidine, and spermine) and polyamine synthesis inhibitor, methylglyoxals-bis (guanyl-hydrazone) (MGBG) on in vitro pollen germination and pollen tube growth were investigated in P. dulcis L. ‘Mamaei’. All temperatures and chemicals significantly affected both pollen germination percentage and pollen tube growth. In general, different polyamines stimulated the pollen germination percentage compared to the control at all temperatures, but increasing the temperature, particularly to 35 °C, had demonstrated inhibitory effects on pollen germination. At a concentration of 0.05 mM putrescine and spermidine and 0.005 and 0.025 mM spermine revealed longer pollen tube growth than that of the control at 10 °C, while higher concentrations tended to inhibit pollen tube growth. At 25 °C, most of the treatments had an inhibitory effect on pollen tube growth except for 0.25 mM putrescine and 0.005 mM spermine, which slightly stimulated pollen tube growth. Pollen germination and pollen tube growth were inhibited by MGBG at all temperatures and in all concentrations.  相似文献

Dodonaea viscosa (Sapindaceae) is widespread in the mountainous highlands of the southwestern part of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, where it is a medicinally important species for the people in Saudi Arabia. Seeds of this species were collected from Mount Atharb in Al-Baha region, at an altitude of 2100 m. The aims of this study were to determine if the seeds of D. viscosa have physical dormancy (i.e. a water-impermeable seed coat) and, if so, what treatments would break dormancy, and what conditions promote germination after dormancy has been broken. The dormancy-breaking treatments included: soaking of seeds in concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4) for 10 min, immersion in boiling water for 10 min and exposure to 50 °C for 1 min. After seeds had been pre-treated with H2SO4, to break dormancy, they were incubated at constant temperatures from 5 to 35 °C, under 12-h photoperiods or in continuous darkness, and germination recorded. Salinity tolerance was investigated by incubating acid-scarified seeds in different concentrations of mM NaCl in the light at 25 °C.Untreated seeds had low final germination 30%. Seeds that had been acid-scarified, immersed in boiling water or exposed to 50 °C all achieved 91% subsequently when incubated at 25 °C. Thus, seeds of this species in Saudi Arabia have physical dormancy, which can be broken by all three treatments designed to increase the permeability of the testa. After pre-treatment, there was a broad optimum constant temperature for germination that ranged between 5 and 25 °C but germination was inhibited by higher temperatures (30 and 35 °C). Light had little effect on this germination response. Scarified seeds were also sensitive to salinity, with the highest germination in distilled water and complete inhibition in 400 mM NaCl. Seeds that failed to germinate in saline treatments were mostly able to germinate on transfer to distilled water, suggesting osmotic inhibition.  相似文献

Brassica insularis is a perennial plant growing on both coastal and inland cliffs. Three seed lots from Sardinia were analysed using an image analysis system to detect differences in seed morphology, both within and among populations. Germination requirements at constant (5–25 °C) and alternating temperatures (25/10 °C), both in light and in darkness, were evaluated for all populations. In addition, the effect of a dry after‐ripening period (90 days at 25 °C) was also investigated. Morpho‐colorimetric analysis clearly identified seeds from different populations and discriminated three chromatic categories for seeds belonging to the Isola dei Cavoli coastal population, but not for the inland Masùa and the coastal Planu Sartu. Inter‐population variability was also observed in germination behaviour. B. insularis seeds germinated, with percentages up to 60%, in a wide range of temperatures (5–25 °C), and neither light nor dry after‐ripening affected final germination percentages. Moisture content measurements were made for seeds of each colour, but there were no particular differences among colours. Inter‐populational variability in germination behaviour may be a survival strategy for species growing under unpredictable environmental conditions, such as under Mediterranean climate, while heteromorphy may be due to independent evolutionary divergence processes of the Isola dei Cavoli population.  相似文献

Native species are recommended for use in landscape restoration because they adapt well to the local pedo‐climatic conditions. Despite the high biodiversity in the Mediterranean, the use of native plants is hampered by the limited knowledge of their seed germination. This is particularly true for a number of plants which are appropriate for creating species‐rich herbaceous communities. In this study, seeds of 35 species were collected in different roadside and degraded sites in rural and urban areas. Two experiments were carried out to determine the influence of light and thermal conditions on seed germination. In the first experiment, seeds of 17 species were tested at different temperatures (5, 15, and 25°C). At 15°C, seed germination was tested under both dark and light conditions. In the second experiment, the germination of 30 species was tested under alternating temperatures (25/15°C) and dark/light conditions. The responses of the various species differed in relation to thermal levels and light conditions, e.g., Bartsia trixago did not germinate in the dark at constant temperatures (5, 15, and 25°C), while in the light (15°C) and at alternating temperatures (25/15°C) in light and dark conditions, germination was over 60%. In both experiments, Tragopogon porrifolius and Triticum ovatum showed the highest germination rate (≥88%). With the sole exception of Medicago orbicularis, all members of the Fabaceae showed no or low germination. The definition of the germination requirements of some Mediterranean species, highlighted in these experiments, provides useful information for the creation of low input green areas and environmental restoration using these species.  相似文献

  • Seed germination of Citrullus colocynthis, as in many other species of Cucurbitaceae, is inhibited by light, particularly at low temperatures. Germination response to light and temperature has been attributed to day length and temperature during seed maturation. This study assessed the effects of these factors on the germination response of C. colocynthis to temperature and light quality.
  • Ripe fruits were collected from natural habitats during December and February and germinated at three temperatures (15/25, 20/30 and 25/35 °C) in five light treatments (dark, white light and Red:Far Red (R:FR) ratios of 0.30, 0.87 and 1.19). Additionally, unripe fruits were also collected from natural habitats and completed their maturation in growth chambers under different day lengths (6, 16 and 24 h of darkness) at 10/20 °C, and in darkness at both 10/20 °C and 25/35 °C. Mature seeds of the different treatments were germinated in the same five light treatments at 15/25 °C.
  • Germination was significantly higher in the dark than that in any light treatment. Seeds matured at higher temperatures (i.e. seeds from the December collection and those matured at 25/35 °C) had significantly higher germination than those matured at lower temperatures (i.e. seeds from the February collection and those matured at 10/20 °C). Dark germination was significantly higher for the December collection than for the February collection. Seeds of the two collections germinated in the dark only at 15/25 °C. However, seeds matured in a growth chamber at 10/20 °C in darkness germinated at 15/25 °C in all light treatments, except for the R:FR ratio 0.30. Seeds of the different treatments failed to germinate in FR‐rich light.
  • This study demonstrates that both temperature and day length during seed maturation play significant roles in the germination response of C. colocynthis. Additionally, the dark requirement for germination is likely beneficial for species with the larger seeds, such as C. colocynthis, which produce bigger seedlings that are able to emerge from deep soils and are competitively superior under dense vegetation and resource‐limited conditions.

The germination characteristics of Alexandrium minutum cysts from the Fal estuary were studied at different conditions of temperature (4–24 °C) and salinity (15–35‰) and in the dark and low light intensity (2 μmol?2 s?1). Sediment sub-samples were directly cultured and processed at the end of the experiment for counts of non-germinated cysts. A decrease in the number of cysts was interpreted as germination that was calculated by comparison of the number of cysts over time with that of initial counts. The 50% germination time (time at which 50% of the total initial number of cysts had germinated) was calculated for each condition. A. minutum did not germinate in the dark but it germinated under all other conditions studied. Highest germination occurred at salinities of 30 psu and 35 psu and temperatures from 8 °C to 24 °C (germination rate—expressed as the inverse of the 50% germination time: 1.1–1.2). Lowest germination occurred at 15 psu and 4 °C and 24 °C (germination rate: 3.9–3.8). However, little variation in germination rates occurred across the conditions studied. As these conditions represent those likely in the estuary it is probable that A. minutum cysts on the surface of the sediments represent a constant source of cells to the water column and sediment disturbance (revealing buried cysts) could rapidly inoculate the water column with vegetative cells. This data was used to develop a model for Alexandrium germination from coastal sediments.  相似文献

A thermogradient apparatus was used to investigate the effect of variable dew temperatures on infection of green foxtail by the indigenous pathogen Pyricularia setariae (Ps) and the exotic pathogens Drechslera gigantea (Dg), and Exserohilum rostratum (Er) from the southern USA that showed bioherbicide potential against several grassy weeds. This device is capable of creating multiple diurnal temperature cycles, mimicking daily temperature fluctuations that occur under field conditions. Seven temperature regimes, i.e., 15/10 °C, 20/5 °C, 20/15 °C, 25/10 °C, 25/20 °C, 30/15 °C, and 30/25 °C (maximum/minimum), were used with temperature cycling from maximum to minimum and then back up to maximum in a 24 h period. Ps and Dg were much more virulent than Er on green foxtail, resulting in higher levels of disease and weed control. Dg was little affected by the dew temperatures in terms of plant infection and was more efficacious than Ps under cooler dew temperatures (15/10 °C and 20/5 °C), causing twice as much disease. This greater amount of disease coincided with higher conidial germination, appressorial formation and infection-hypha frequency by Dg at the lower temperatures. The efficacy of Ps improved as dew temperature increased, accompanied by a higher percentage of germination and more frequent appressorial production. Dg caused severe disease 2 d after inoculation whereas Ps required 4 d to initiate disease symptoms. These observations suggest that Dg is a superior candidate than Ps for green foxtail control on the Canadian prairies.  相似文献

The seeds of Crithmmm maritimum L. were germinated floating on various concentrations of sea water up to 50% at constant temperatures of 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25°C and at alternating temperatures of 5 and 15°C. 5 and 25°C. and 15 and 25°C. Significantly higher germination was obtained at alternating than at constant temperature. When two constant temperatures at which no germination occurred were alternated, good germination was obtained. There was reduced germination and increase in time of first germination as sea water concentration increased, in the absence of sea water, high temperature caused not only severe inhibition of germination but also permanent injury to the seeds. The results help to explain the germination behaviour of the species in nature.  相似文献

This study was conducted to address the effect of different constant temperatures (15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 °C) on the functional response of the parasitoid wasps Diglyphus isaea Walker and Hemiptarsenus zilahisebessi Erdös to different densities of Liriomyza sativae Blanchard (2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 larvae) under laboratory conditions. The results revealed the Type II functional response for both parasitoids at different temperatures. The highest searching efficiency for D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi occurred at 25 °C (0.926 ± 0.211 h−1) and 30 °C (1.012 ± 0.241 h−1), respectively. In addition, the shortest handling time for D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi were observed at 25 °C (0.063 ± 0.008 h) and 30 °C (0.058 ± 0.008 h), respectively. These results demonstrated that H. zilahisebessi is more efficient at higher temperatures than D. isaea. Both parasitoids had higher parasitism performance when temperature increased (4.67 parasitized hosts/day at 15 °C vs 15.87 parasitized hosts/day at 25 °C for D. isaea and 3.89 parasitized hosts/day at 15 °C vs 17.24 parasitized hosts/day at 30 °C for H. zilahisebessi). In addition, a quadratic regression was found between handling time and temperature as well as between number of the parasitized larvae and temperature in D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi at different densities of L. sativae. This study provided a preliminary information on the parasitic behavior of these parasitoids and that D. isaea and H. zilahisebessi can be used properly beside other non-chemical approaches to manage L. sativae damage at a temperature range of 25–30 °C, respectively.  相似文献

Semi‐arid rangeland degradation is a reoccurring issue throughout the world. In the Great Basin of North America, seeds sown in the fall to restore degraded sagebrush (Artemisia spp.) steppe plant communities may experience high mortality in winter due to exposure of seedlings to freezing temperatures and other stressors. Delaying germination until early spring when conditions are more suitable for growth may increase survival. We evaluated the use of BioNik? (Valent BioSciences LLC) abscisic acid (ABA) to delay germination of bluebunch wheatgrass (Pseudoroegneria spicata). Seed was either left untreated or coated at five separate rates of ABA ranging from 0.25 to 6.0 g 100 g?1 of seed. Seeds were incubated at five separate constant temperatures from 5 to 25°C. From the resultant germination data, we developed quadratic thermal accumulation models for each treatment and applied them to 4 years of historic soil moisture and temperature data across six sagebrush steppe sites to predict germination timing. Total germination percentage remained similar across all temperatures except at 25°C, where high ABA rates had slightly lower values. All ABA doses delayed germination, with the greatest delays at 5–10°C. For example, the time required for 50% of the seeds to germinate at 5°C was increased by 16–46 d, depending on the amount of ABA applied. Seed germination models predicted that the majority of untreated seed would germinate 5–11 weeks after a 15 October simulated planting date. In contrast, seeds treated with ABA were predicted to delay germination to late winter or early spring. These results indicate that ABA coatings may delay germination of fall planted seed until conditions are more suitable for plant survival and growth.  相似文献

The influence of temperatures on the life parameters of the solitary oothecal parasitoid Evania appendigaster, was investigated in the laboratory. Parasitized oothecae of Periplaneta americana were left to develop under seven constant temperatures: 15, 17, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 °C. At the end, we found that: (i) E. appendigaster was able to complete development within the temperature range of 17–34 °C; (ii) mean adult longevity decreased as temperature increased, with the temperature of 40 °C being fatal in a matter of hours; (iii) males lived longer than females between 15 and 30 °C; (iv) adult emergence rate was the highest at 25 °C, and (v) no wasps emerged at 15 or 40 °C. Non-emerged oothecae contained either unhatched eggs or dead larvae. We determined the theoretical lower developmental threshold and thermal constant for the complete development as 12.9 °C and 584.8 day-degrees for males, and 13.1 °C and 588.2 day-degrees for females, respectively. A good balance between faster development, maximum adult longevity and good egg viability was obtained between 25–30 °C, and that would be the best temperature range for rearing E. appendigaster.  相似文献

Leptochloa panicea ssp. mucronata is an annual grass that grows in relatively dry habitats. Requirements for dormancy loss and germination were determined for seeds of this species and compared to those of two species from wet habitats. Seeds of L. panicea were dormant at maturity in autumn, but when exposed to actual or simulated autumn temperatures (e.g. 20/10, 15/6 °C), they entered conditional dormancy and thus germinated to high percentages in light at 35/20 °C. Seeds buried in non-flooded soil exposed to natural seasonal temperature changes in Kentucky (USA) were non-dormant by the following summer and germinated to 80–100 % in light at 25/15, 30/15 and 35/20 °C. Seeds buried in non-flooded soil exhibited an annual conditional dormancy/non-dormancy cycle, with seeds mostly germinating to 80–100 % in light at 30/15 and 35/20 °C throughout the year but to 80–100 % in light at 25/15 °C only in summer. Results for L. panicea were compared to published data for L. panicoides and L. fusca. Whereas seeds of L. panicea buried in flooded soil failed to come out of dormancy, those of L. panicoides, an annual of moist habitats such as mudflats, exhibited an annual conditional dormancy/non-dormancy cycle, and those of L. fusca, a semi-aquatic, required flooding for both dormancy loss and germination. Differences in dormancy breaking and germination responses of seeds of Leptochloa species may help to explain why this genus occupies a wide range of habitats with regard to soil moisture conditions.  相似文献

The effects of temperature on developmental rate of Rhyncaphytoptus ficifoliae Keifer (Diptilomiopidae) were determined at six constant temperatures (17, 20, 25, 30, 33 and 36 °C) on fig leaves. The total developmental time of females decreased as temperature increased from 17 (21.62 days) to 33 °C (6.02 days), and then increased at 36 °C (6.47 days). Using the ordinary and Ikemoto and Takai (2000) linear models the estimated lower temperature thresholds (Tmin) for total developmental time of females were 10.78 and 10.37 °C and the constant temperatures (k) were 140.25 and 144.78°-days (DD), respectively. Data also were fitted to SSI nonlinear temperature-dependent model. The estimated TL, intrinsic optimum temperature (TФ) and Th for total immature stages of females by SSI model were 11.11, 23.72 and 37.98 °C, respectively. With use of the obtained data from rearing R. ficifoliae under constant temperatures in laboratory and temperature data in Khorramabad region in 2017, the real developmental rate of this mite in natural conditions was described. The highest (100%) and lowest values (51.67%) of survival rate for immature stages were found at 25 and 36 °C, respectively. The presented information could be used to predict the population dynamics of main pest R. ficifoliae for an effective management.  相似文献

Stipa tenacissima L. (alpha grass) steppes are one of the most representative ecosystems in arid Mediterranean ecosystems. On the one hand these steppes, which are perpetually exposed to climate and strong anthropogenic pressure, have undergone severe degradation. On the other hand, the ability of S. tenacissima to regenerate naturally is significantly reduced. In this study the germination response and seedling emergence of S. tenacissima are examined in relation to the main environmental factors (water stress and temperature) under laboratory-controlled conditions. The main aim of this paper was to investigate the influence of temperature over a temperature range (10 °C–30 °C) and water stress induced by the solutions of polyethylene glycol (PEG)-6000 (0 to − 1.6 MPa) for a period of 30 days, on the germination behavior of S. tenacissima seeds. The results showed that temperatures between 10° and 20 °C seem to be favorable for the germination of this species, with optimum temperatures among accessions found in 20 °C. When seeds were water-stressed, germination severely decreased at − 0.8 MPa, indicating that the accession resistance limits to the water stress, and was completely inhibited at − 1.6 MPa. Consequently, the final germination percentage (FGP) decreased and the mean time germination (MTG) increased. Based on the empirical data of the germination rate, we estimated that the parameters of the thermal time and hydrotime models showed different values in all accessions which proves the difference between accession adaptive capacities.  相似文献

Sarcophaga dux (Diptera: Sarcophagidae) is a necrophagous flesh fly species with potential forensic value for estimating minimum postmortem interval (PMImin). The basic developmental data and precise age estimates of the pupae are significant for PMImin estimation in forensic investigations. In the present study, we investigated the development data of that species at seven constant temperatures varying from 16 °C to 34 °C, including body length changes of the larve, developmental duration and accumulated degree hours of the preadults. Several reference genes for relative quantification of the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) were firstly selected and evaluated in the pupae of different ages under different temperatures. The DEGs of the insects during the pupal period at different constant temperatures (34, 25 and 16 °C) were further analyzed for more precise age estimation. The results showed that the developmental durations of the preadults at 16, 19, 22, 25, 28, 31 and 34 °C were 1478.6 ± 18.3 h, 726.1 ± 15.8 h, 538.5 ± 0.9 h, 394.1 ± 9.5 h, 375.6 ± 10.8 h, 284.1 ± 7.3 h, and 252.5 ± 6.1 h, respectively. The developmental threshold temperature the flies was 12.27 ± 0.35 °C, and the thermal summation constant was 5341.71 ± 249.29° hours. The most reliable reference genes during the pupal period at different temperatures were found: GST1 and 18S rRNA for the 34 °C group, GST1 and RPL49 for 25 °C, and 18S rRNA and 28S rRNA for 16 °C. The four differential expression genes (Hsp60, A-alpha, ARP, and RPL8) have the potential to be used for more precise age estimation of pupal S. dux. This work provides important basic developmental data and a more precise age estimation method for pupal S. dux, and improves the value of this species for PMImin estimation in forensic investigations.  相似文献

Conyza bonariensis is one of the most problematic weed species throughout the world. It is considered highly noxious due to its interference with human activities, and especially the competition it poses with economically important crops. This research investigated the temperature requirements for seed germination of four populations of C. bonariensis with distinct origin and the influence of daily alternating temperatures. For this, a set of germination tests were performed in growth chambers to explore the effect of constant and alternating temperatures. Seeds of the four populations (from Lleida, Badajoz and Seville, Spain and Bahía Blanca, Argentina) were maintained at constant temperatures ranging from 5 to 35°C. The final germination and cardinal temperatures (base, optimum and maximum) of each population were obtained. We also tested the influence of daily alternating temperatures on final germination. To do so, seeds were exposed to two temperature regimes: 5/15, 10/20, 15/25, 20/30 and 25/35°C night/day temperature (intervals increasing 5°C, with constant oscillation of 10°C) and to 18/22, 16/24, 14/26, 12/28 and 10/30°C night/day temperature (intervals with average of 20°C, but increasing the oscillation in 4°C between intervals). In general, all populations behaved similarly, with the highest germination percentages occurring in the optimum temperature range (between 21.7°C and 22.3°C) for both constant and alternating temperatures. In general, climatic origin affected germination response, where seeds obtained from the coldest origin exhibited the highest germination percentage at the lowest temperature assayed. In addition, we observed that the alternating temperatures can positively affect total germination, especially in oscillations that were further from the average optimum temperature (20°C), with high germination percentage for the oscillations of 15/25, 20/30, 18/22, 16/24, 14/26, 12/28 and 10/30°C in all populations. The cardinal temperatures obtained were significantly different across the populations. These results provide information that will facilitate a better understanding of the behaviour of Conyza and improve current field emergence models.  相似文献

Effects of constant temperature on mating duration and total fecundity of Neoseiulus californicus females mated once were investigated at 18 °C, 25 °C, 30 °C, and 35 °C with a photoperiod of 16L:8D. Adult mites grown and maintained at 25 °C mated for 315.3 min on average and produced 46.1 eggs per female. These values varied significantly by temperature: 553.6 and 13.9 (18 °C), 261.2 and 26.6 (30 °C), and 253.6 and 23.9 (35 °C), respectively. Duration of copulation was negatively correlated with temperature. However, total egg production peaked at 25 °C and decreased at lower and higher temperatures. Reduced sperm transfer and/or survival rate of sperm in the female body may account for decreased egg production when temperatures are not optimal.  相似文献
