Fruits ofDipsacaceae are single-seeded, have bristle-shaped calyx segments and are tightly enclosed by four fused bracts forming an epicalyx. Comparative morphological and anatomical studies reveal a great diversity of epicalyx and calyx, often relevant to fruit dispersal. The present contribution deals with theScabiosa group of genera, the core of theScabioseae tribe. Most of its taxa develop a diaphragma from a meristem on the inside of the epicalyx. This diaphragma, together with the lower part of the epicalyx encloses the fruit proper, whereas the upper parts form a so-called epi-diaphragma (ed) and a ± hyaline corona. Differences of the epicalyx with respect to the size and position of the ed, elaboration of the corona, origin of pits (=foveoles) and other morphological and anatomical specializations can be demonstrated. Together with palynological and karyological data these new facts support an improved concept of relationships and systematics for the taxa studied:Scabiosa sect.Scabiosa and sect.Cyrtostemma are closely related and should be united to form the genusScabiosa s. str.;Pycnocomon can be maintained as an independent genus, sister toScabiosa sect.Trochocephalus which then has to be treated as a genus,Lomelosia. In contrast, the following genera have to be included inLomelosia:Tremastelma asLomelosia sect.Callistemma, andScabiosiopsis as part ofLomelosia sect.Lomelosia. Summary The distribution of acetylcholinesterase (E.C. 3.1.1.7.) and other cholinesterases (E.C. 3.1.1.8.) in the fine structure of the myoneural junction of the rat diaphragma was studied, using acetylthiocholine and butyrylthiocholine as substrates. p]Acetylcholinesterase was located in the muscle sarcoplasm closely related to the postsynaptic membrane. Other cholinesterases are observed in the primary and secondary synaptic clefts and between the axon and the teloglial cells.  相似文献

The single-seeded fruits of the Dipsacaceae are enclosed by four fused bracts forming an epicalyx. A detailed study of the epicalyx morphology and anatomy of nearly all of the approximately 30 species of Pterocephalus s.L, together with other floral, palynological and karyological data, suggest only loose relationships and convergent similarities (homoplasies) between the core of the taxa (Pterocephalus s.s.), ranging from south-west and central Asia (P gedrosiacus, P. afghanicus) to Macaronesia (e.g. P. dumetorum) east Africa (P. frutescens) and southeast Asia (P. hookeri, P. bretschneideri and P. siamensis). The latter are separated as a new genus: Pterocephalodes. Pterocephalus S.S. lacks floral bracts, has numerous feathery calyx bristles and 5-merous corollas, and is apparently monophyletic. Its species demonstrate the gradual development of a hyalie corona, a diaphragma and other specialized epicalyx structures. These and other features allows the recognition of a relatively plesiornorphic, very widespread and paraphyletic basal group of perennial species (epicalyx type I), two more apomorphic perennial groups (epicalyx types II and III), and two most advanced groups (epicalyx types IV and V) with one perennial and two annual species. Pterocephalodes has floral bracts and 4-merous corollas, also appears to be monophyletic, and is limited to the eastern Himalaya and south-west China. It shares with Pseudoscabiosa the lack of a diaphragma in some of its species as well as the origin of a feathery pappus and of a corona. Thus, all three genera allow an insight into the evolutionary processes of fruit differentiation in the Dipsacaceae family.  相似文献

目的建立重症肌无力小鼠模型。方法电鳗乙酰胆碱受体(TnAChR)和完全弗氏佐剂(CFA)混合物免疫C57BL/6J小鼠,经二次加强免疫后,检测肌力、腓肠肌肌电图、膈肌终板电镜、血清抗体水平等指标。结果与对照小鼠相比,发病小鼠表现出肌力减弱的症状,肌电图显示小鼠腓肠肌复合动作电位振幅幅度显著下降,电镜证实神经肌接头处突触后膜变平、皱褶减少、空泡样变性,发病小鼠血清抗体水平明显升高。结论成功建立了重症肌无力小鼠模型,有助于探讨其发病机理及探索治疗自身免疫病新的途径和方法。  相似文献

在冷暴露(5 ± 1℃)1 d,7 d,14 d 和21d 对中缅树鼩的肝脏、心脏、膈肌、腓肠肌和褐色脂肪组织(BAT)的总蛋白和线粒体蛋白含量、线粒体的状态Ⅳ呼吸能力、细胞色素C 氧化酶活力及血清中甲状腺激素的水平等指标进行了测定。结果表明:冷暴露过程中肝脏线粒体蛋白含量对低温的反应比总蛋白的反应剧烈,心脏和BAT 组织的线粒体蛋白含量也随着冷驯化时间的延长而显著增加,但腓肠肌的反应较为温和;各组织线粒体的状态Ⅳ呼吸能力均显著增强,除腓肠肌外其它各组织细胞色素C 氧化酶活性也随冷暴露时间的延长而急剧增加。说明在低温条件下,肝脏、腓肠肌、心脏和BAT 等组织都参与了体温调节的过程,在自然生境中,低温是重要的刺激产热的调节因子。  相似文献

We investigated the structure of the abdominal wall of Pteronotus parnellii and made comparisons with eight other species of Microchiroptera and one megachiropteran. Similar to other mammals, the abdominal wall of bats consists of the three flank muscles laterally and the m. rectus abdominis ventrally. In Microchiroptera, flank muscles are mostly confined to dorsal portions of the wall. The mm. transversus abdominis and obdominis and obliquus internus abdominis form the bulk of the wall; the m. obliquus externus is poorly developed. Ventrolaterally, a large portion of the wall is a dense, bilaminar aponeurosis, composed of collagen, elastin, and fibroblasts. The thicker, superficial lamina derives from the mm. obliquus internus and transversus abdominis. The deep lamina is a continuation of the transversalis fascia. Collagen fibers of the two fused laminae are oriented orthogonally, resulting in a resilient, composite fabric. Fascicles of the flank muscles are oriented along the margins of the aponeurosis so that their forces appear to be concentrated onto the aponeurosis. We suggest that this system is adapted for the regulation and generation of intra-abdominal pressure. The abdominal wall of Pteropus, the one megachiropteran examined, lacks the derived aponeurosis and is similar to other mammals. We consider the abdominal wall of Microchiroptera to be analogous to the diaphragma, in that it functions in the regulation of pressure within body cavities and facilitates biosonar vocalization. © 1995 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

To elucidate compositional changes of the tendons and ligaments with aging, the authors investigated age-related changes of element contents in the insertion tendons of the biceps brachii muscle, central tendons of the diaphragma, Achilles’ tendons, posterior longitudinal ligaments (PLLs) of the cervical spine, ligamenta capitum femorum, and anterior cruciate ligaments. After ordinary dissections by medical students, the three tendons and three ligaments were resected and element contents were determined by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry. It was found that the elements, such as Ca, P, S, Mg, Na, Zn, and Fe, did not change significantly in the three tendons and two ligaments with aging, except for the PLLs where Ca and Mg increased significantly with aging and Fe decreased significantly with aging. With regard to the relationships among elements, the common finding that there were significant correlations between Ca and P contents and between Ca and Mg contents was obtained in the three ligaments. Likewise, the common finding that there was a significant correlation between Ca and Mg contents was obtained in the three tendons. Regarding the relationship between Ca and P contents, the three tendons were different from the three ligaments.  相似文献

Purpose

Non-invasive end-points for interventional trials and tailored treatment regimes in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for monitoring regionally different manifestations of lung disease instead of global assessment of lung function with spirometry would be valuable. Proton nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (1H-MRI) allows for a radiation-free assessment of regional structure and function. The aim of this study was to evaluate the short-term reproducibility of a comprehensive morpho-functional lung MRI protocol in COPD.

Materials and Methods

20 prospectively enrolled COPD patients (GOLD I-IV) underwent 1H-MRI of the lung at 1.5T on two consecutive days, including sequences for morphology, 4D contrast-enhanced perfusion, and respiratory mechanics. Image quality and COPD-related morphological and functional changes were evaluated in consensus by three chest radiologists using a dedicated MRI-based visual scoring system. Test-retest reliability was calculated per each individual lung lobe for the extent of large airway (bronchiectasis, wall thickening, mucus plugging) and small airway abnormalities (tree in bud, peripheral bronchiectasis, mucus plugging), consolidations, nodules, parenchymal defects and perfusion defects. The presence of tracheal narrowing, dystelectasis, pleural effusion, pulmonary trunk ectasia, right ventricular enlargement and, finally, motion patterns of diaphragma and chest wall were addressed.

Results

Median global scores [10(Q1:8.00;Q3:16.00) vs.11(Q1:6.00;Q3:15.00)] as well as category subscores were similar between both timepoints, and kappa statistics indicated “almost perfect” global agreement (ĸ = 0.86, 95%CI = 0.81–0.91). Most subscores showed at least “substantial” agreement of MRI1 and MRI2 (ĸ = 0.64–1.00), whereas the agreement for the diagnosis of dystelectasis/effusion (ĸ = 0.42, 95%CI = 0.00–0.93) was “moderate” and of tracheal abnormalities (ĸ = 0.21, 95%CI = 0.00–0.75) “fair”. Most MRI acquisitions showed at least diagnostic quality at MRI1 (276 of 278) and MRI2 (259 of 264).

Conclusion

Morpho-functional 1H-MRI can be obtained with reproducible image quality and high short-term test-retest reliability for COPD-related morphological and functional changes of the lung. This underlines its potential value for the monitoring of regional lung characteristics in COPD trials.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to obtain a complete data set needed for studying the complex biomechanical behaviour of the pelvic floor muscles using a computer model based on the finite element (FE) theory. The model should be able to predict the effect of surgical interventions and give insight into the function of pelvic floor muscles. Because there was a lack of any information concerning morphological parameters of the pelvic floor muscle structures, we performed an experimental measurement to uncover those morphological parameters. Geometric parameters as well as muscle parameters of the pelvic floor muscles were measured on an embalmed female cadaver. A three-dimensional (3D) geometric data set of the pelvic floor including muscle fibre directions was obtained using a palpator device. A 3D surface model based on the experimental data, needed for mathematical modelling of the pelvic floor, was created. For all parts of the diaphragma pelvis, the optimal muscle fibre length was determined by laser diffraction measurements of the sarcomere length. In addition, other muscle parameters such as physiological cross-sectional area and total muscle fibre length were determined. Apart from these measurements we obtained a data set of the pelvic floor structures based on nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on the same cadaver specimen. The purpose of this experiment was to discover the relationship between the MRI morphology and geometrical parameters obtained from the previous measurements. The produced data set is not only important for biomechanical modelling of the pelvic floor muscles, but it also describes the geometry of muscle fibres and is useful for functional analysis of the pelvic floor in general. By the use of many reference landmarks all these morphologic data concerning fibre directions and optimal fibre length can be morphed to the geometrical data based on segmentation from MRI scans.These data can be directly used as an input for building a mathematical model based on FE theory.  相似文献

Mechanical ventilation (MV) is a life-saving intervention for patients in respiratory failure. However, prolonged MV causes the rapid development of diaphragm muscle atrophy, and diaphragmatic weakness may contribute to difficult weaning from MV. Therefore, developing a therapeutic countermeasure to protect against MV-induced diaphragmatic atrophy is important. MV-induced diaphragm atrophy is due, at least in part, to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) from diaphragm mitochondria and the activation of key muscle proteases (i.e., calpain and caspase-3). In this regard, leakage of calcium through the ryanodine receptor (RyR1) in diaphragm muscle fibers during MV could result in increased mitochondrial ROS emission, protease activation, and diaphragm atrophy. Therefore, these experiments tested the hypothesis that a pharmacological blockade of the RyR1 in diaphragm fibers with azumolene (AZ) would prevent MV-induced increases in mitochondrial ROS production, protease activation, and diaphragmatic atrophy. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats underwent 12 hours of full-support MV while receiving either AZ or vehicle. At the end of the experiment, mitochondrial ROS emission, protease activation, and fiber cross-sectional area were determined in diaphragm muscle fibers. Decreases in muscle force production following MV indicate that the diaphragm took up a sufficient quantity of AZ to block calcium release through the RyR1. However, our findings reveal that AZ treatment did not prevent the MV-induced increase in mitochondrial ROS emission or protease activation in the diaphragm. Importantly, AZ treatment did not prevent MV-induced diaphragm fiber atrophy. Thus, pharmacological inhibition of the RyR1 in diaphragm muscle fibers is not sufficient to prevent MV-induced diaphragm atrophy.  相似文献

Summary The ultrastructure of the heterocyst and its development from the vegetative cell is described. The ultrastructure of the akinete is also described. The mature heterocyst (still attached to the filament) has an elaborate structure which is distinct from both that of the normal vegetative cell and the akinete (the normal reproductive cell).Despite the extra structural detail seen in the electron micrographs, the observations do not indicate a likely physiological role for the heterocyst. However, since the developing-mature heterocyst has an organised structure, it is probable that it has an active metabolism. In contrast, the detached heterocyst has a highly disorganised structure and, for this reason, it is likely to be metabolically inactive and incapable of germination.  相似文献

The primary structure of a 3S serine tRNA from beef heart mitochondria has been determined using our new two-dimensional "read-off" sequencing method (Tanaka, Y., Dyer, T.A. and Brownlee, G.G (1980) Nucleic Acids Res. 8, 1259-1272). When arranged in the "cloverleaf" form it shows unique features since (i) it completely lacks the dihydrouridine arm, (ii) it has an extended "T gamma" loop, but lacks the T and gamma residues, and (iii) it has only one minor base, N6(N-threonylcarbamoyl)adenosine, next to the anticodon.  相似文献

The indications for investigation on the LSD-25 "in vivo" activity on brain cholinesterases of the rat, have been considered. Indications of materials and method used have been supplied too. From the results obtained it emerged no clear evidence of a statistically significant inhibition of cholinesterases due to LSD-25. The results have been discussed and it has been evidenced that the lack of action of the psychotomimetic substance on cholinesterases could be only apparent or that the discrepancy between the LSD-25 anticholinesterase "in vivo" and "in vitro" action should be ascribed to the too scarce tissue levels which can be reached with the does utilized. Apart from the hypothesis, tending to explain the results obtained, it has been considered that the LSD-25 behavioural action, is not probably carried out thanks to a cholinesterase activity.  相似文献

A sampler for collection of interstitial water from wetland sediments is described. It differs from other sampling devices because it does not have to be filled with solution to facilitate diffusion, it does not have to be removed from the wetland to collect samples, and it can be used to draw repeated samples over time from identical locations. The device facilitates in situ measurement of a wide range of abiotic parameters such as electrical conductivity, redox potential, and pH in wetland sediments. The device has application in ecological investigations of sediment-borne wildlife diseases, studies of benthic invertebrates, measurement of nutrient exchange, and other aspects of wetland ecology.  相似文献

Some time ago I proposed in an Editorial in this journal some considerations on the language of biology. I concluded that, to realize an autonomy of such a language (and therefore of biology), we have to develop a valid language for biology. In such a context, it seemed to me that the term "metaphors" referred to the concepts concerning the information carried by genetic code, was a reasonable one. However, Barbieri's article in this issue of Rivista di Biologia / Biology Forum calls for a reply. Of course, we do not know very much in this field, even if we have some evidence that a sequence of bases on a DNA is not determined only by chance. In any case we can exclude that nature in this occasion has "invented" a code. Nature doesn't "invent" anything: it only follows its rules, that we name "laws of nature". Barbieri quotes the Morse code, but forgets to say that such a code is "conventional" in the sense that it is valid only because it is the result of an "agreement" between Morse and the users of that code. There is nothing more unnatural than a "code": with whom nature should actually have to "reach an agreement"? As a matter of fact, we interpret as "information" what happens by law of nature. Also Barbieri's thesis that genes and proteins are molecular artifacts, assembled by external agents, whereas generally molecules are determined by their bonds, i.e. by internal factors, is a disputable one. It is examined how much an external structure plays a role in ordinary chemical reactions. The "information" of physics is not a semantic information. For such information we can refer to history of literature, telegraphic offices, genetics or biochemistry.  相似文献

The Principle of Agency says that if it would be good for a state of affairs to occur "naturally", then it is permissible to take action to bring it about. This contradicts the views of some bioethicists, who object to euthanasia, in vitro fertilization, and cloning, even though they acknowledge that the states of affairs produced are good. But the principle, or some form of it, seems inescapable. The opposite view — that we may not, by our action, reproduce "natural" goods — may owe its appeal to an implicitly religious view of nature.  相似文献

Stretching the sciatic nerve for the relief of "sciatica" was frequently employed before 1900 and was subsequently abandoned, probably because it was done without sufficient scrutiny of the indications. The procedure has recently been employed in cases in which "sciatica" remains following the operative removal of ruptured intervertebral discs, and it has been instrumental in relieving postoperative "sciatica" when the cause was the formation of adhesions about the lumbar nerve roots. If the nerve root is compressed by recurrent disc protrusion or by adjacent bone, the manipulation usually increases the pain, a phenomenon that has been helpful from a diagnostic standpoint.  相似文献

With the help of a previously devised model of cultured cell growth kinetics it was shown that the "plateau" level on the growth curve of human embryo diploid fibroblasts increased, if the cells were grown with Epigid geroprotector-antioxidant (equal results with two drug concentrations: 10(-5) and 10(-7) M, resp.). It was also found that the "plateau" level on the growth curve of cultured "3 days aged" Chinese hamster cells (subcultivated to a fresh medium 3 days after a 1:6 subcultivation) lays higher than the "plateau" level of "14 days aged" cells but lower than that of "7 day aged" cells. Furthermore it was shown that an increase in inoculation density of Chinese hamster cells increased proportionately the rate of cell population growth but had a little effect on the "plateau" level of the growth curve. The data obtained are discussed in terms of some "proliferative" theories of cellular ageing.  相似文献

The multiple insemination of Drosophila subobscura females in nature was studied by the analysis of single female offspring using two highly polymorphic enzyme systems. On qualitative grounds it was found that 23% of these females were inseminated at least twice. The power of detection of one enzyme system was estimated using the already known multi-inseminated females detected by the other system. This permitted the true frequency estimation of multi-inseminated females, in nature, which is 0.276 (for 95% confidence limits it ranges from 0.186 to 0.417). In a laboratory experiment it was found that sperm from the second inseminating male displaces the sperm from the first male.  相似文献
