Effects of various kinds of dietary protein on growth of the silkworm, Bombyx mori, were determined using semi-synthetic diets. Also, the ingestion, digestion and utilization of dry matter and of nitrogen were measured. Nutritive effects of dietary proteins and supplementation of limiting amino acids on haemolymph protein and amino acids pattern were also investigated. Larval growth was largely dependent on the dietary proteins. When the larvae were reared on a diet containing weakly nutritive proteins such as gluten and zein, haemolymph protein was decreased and uric acid excretion was markedly accelerated. The free amino acid composition of the haemolymph manifested characteristic patterns according to the kinds of dietary protein.The supplementation of gluten and zein with their limiting amino acids resulted in a rise of haemolymph protein and a drop in uric acid excretion. The amino acid patterns in the haemolymph were greatly changed according to supplementation.  相似文献

Eleven Poll Dorset times Merino crossbred female lambs 4 weeks of age were trained to suck liquid diets from bottles. In three separate experiments liquid diets providing 14-2% (expt 1) 10-6% (expt 2) or 8-0% (expt 3) of gross energy as protein and amino acids were fed. Responses in voluntary intake, growth rate and changes in plasma amino acid concentrations were studied when complete or incomplete mixtures of amino acids were added to the liquid diet. These mixtures supplied either: (1) all amino acids in quantities to bring the total of protein plus amino acids to provide more than 20% of dietary gross energy, the amino acids being provided in proportions estimated to meet adequately the lamb's requirements ('complete'); or (2) as the same total amount of amino acids but with the amino acid supplement devoid of threonine ('low-threonine', expts 1 and 2) or isoleucine ('low isoleucine', expt 3). In experiment 1, there was no food intake or growth depression after feeding the amino acid mixture lacking threonine. In both experiments 2 and 3, voluntary food intake was depressed to about 50% of that observed in lambs fed the low protein diet, when the amino acid mixture devoid of threonine or of isoleucine, respectively, was fed. Addition of the missing amino acid to the low threonine and low isoleucine diets resulted in recovery of voluntary intake in experiments 2 and 3 respectively, but no significant improvement above that found after feeding the low protein (basal) diet. In experiments 1 and 2, after feeding the low threonine diet the threonine concentration in the blood plasma decreased markedly, while concentrations of total amino acids were elevated. Although there was no improvement in growth or food intake, the feeding of the diet containing the complete amino acid mixture resulted in an elevation of all essential amino acids including threonin. Similarly in experiment 3, plasma isoleucine concentration decreased in the lambs fed the isoleucine imbalanced diet. Results indicate that the suckled, preruminant lamb exhibits sensitivity to dietary amino acid imbalance, in a manner analogous to that found in simple-stomached animals. These results also clearly illustrate a depression in food intake associated with the deletion of a specific essential nutrient from the diet of the lamb.  相似文献

The amino acid composition of the diet ingested by reference and cafeteria diet-fed lean and obese Zucker rats has been analyzed from day 30 to 60 after birth. Their body protein amino acid composition was measured, as well as the urinary and faecal losses incurred during the period studied. The protein actually selected by the rats fed the cafeteria diet had essentially the same amino acid composition as the reference diet. The mean protein amino acid composition of the rat showed only small changes with breed, age or diet.Cafeteria-fed rats had a higher dietary protein digestion/absorption efficiency than reference diet-fed rats. Obese rats wasted a high proportion of dietary amino acids when given the reference diet, but not on the cafeteria diet. In all cases, the amino acids lost as such in the urine were a minimal portion of available amino acids.In addition to breed, the rates of protein accretion are deeply influenced by diet, but even more by the age — or size — of the animals: cafeteria-fed rats grew faster, to higher body protein settings, but later protein accrual decreased considerably; this is probably due to a limitation in the blueprint for growth which restricts net protein deposition when a certain body size is attained. Obese rats, however, kept accuring protein with high rates throughout.Diet composition — and not protein availability or quality-induced deep changes in amino acid metabolism. Since the differences in the absolute levels of dietary protein or carbohydrate energy ingested by rats fed the reference or cafeteria diets were small, it can be assumed that high (lipid) energy elicits the changes observed in amino acid metabolism by the cafeteria diet. The effects induced in the fate of the nitrogen ingested were more related to the fractional protein energy proportion than to its absolute values. Cafeteria-fed rats tended to absorb more amino acids and preserve them more efficiently; these effects were shown even under conditions of genetic obesity.There were deep differences in handling of dietary amino acids by dietary or genetically obese rats. The former manage to extract and accrue larger proportions of their dietary amino acids than the latter. The effects of both models of amino acid management were largely additive, suggesting that the mechanisms underlying the development of obesity did not run in parallel to those affecting the control of amino acid utilization. Reasons for differences in growth of weanling mice fed different blends of purified proteins in diets apparently adequate in indispensable amino acids were investigated. Dietary nitrogen provided at increasing levels from a mixture of casein, gelatin, and zein, or from these plus gliadin and lactalbumin resulted in similar weight gains and efficiency of feed utilization in weanling mice. These responses were always lower (P less than 0.05) than for mice fed the control diet. When diets were based on true digestible nitrogen and amino acids, weight gains and feed efficiency decreased (P less than 0.05) as the dietary nitrogen level increased. High plasma glycine concentrations and high phenylalanine to tyrosine ratios were associated with high dietary glycine levels provided by gelatin. When a mixture of constant proportions of protein sources, predominantly casein, supplied most of the dietary nitrogen, small increases in weight gains and feed efficiency were observed as the nitrogen level in the diet increased. Varying the proportions of sources, which increased the percentage of gelatin, resulted in decreased gains in response to more dietary nitrogen. Replacing the amino acids found in gelatin by crystalline L-amino acids and replacing glycine by glutamic acid improved gains and feed efficiency (P less than 0.05) compared with gelatin-containing diets. These studies demonstrated that glycine at dietary concentrations of approximately 1-2%, either from gelatin or as the free amino acid, inhibited growth and feed utilization of growing mice.  相似文献

Gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar (L.) (Lepidoptera: Lymantriidae)) larvae were reared from hatch on 1.25% N or 3.5% N artificial diet (previous diet) and switched reciprocally to the other diet (current diet) after molting into the second, third, fourth, or fifth instar. The nitrogen concentration of food consumed during previous instars had a strong residual effect on the growth rate in subsequent instars when a diet switch was made during instars two through four, but did not affect growth rate of fifth-instar larvae despite effects on food consumption and utilization. In early instars, larvae reared on 1.25% N artificial diet and then switched to 3.75% N diet had lower mass-adjusted growth rates than larvae continuously reared on 3.75% N diet. Conversely, larvae reared on 3.75% N diet and switched to 1.25% N had higher mass-adjusted growth rates than larvae reared continuously on 1.25% N diet. Relative to larvae previously reared on 1.25% N diet, fifth-instar male larvae previously reared on 3.75% N diet had slightly lower consumption rates, higher net growth efficiency (ECD), and higher gross growth efficiency (ECI). Larvae previously reared on 3.75% N diet tended to have lower food assimilation efficiency (AD) and lower nitrogen assimilation efficiency (AD(N)). Although both previous and current diet nitrogen concentration strongly affected larval growth and food utilization, the interaction term between these was not significant for any response variables except ECD and ECI. Because the interaction term reflects the effect of switching per se, the results indicate that there was a metabolic cost associated with switching, but no inherent net cost or benefit of diet-switching to growth.  相似文献

【目的】本研究旨在探究饵料蛋白质水平对德国小蠊Blattella germanica营养利用及氮代谢的影响,为蟑螂毒饵的研发提供新思路。【方法】采用标准重量分析法评估了取食4种不同蛋白质水平(5%, 25%, 45%和65%)饵料的德国小蠊雄成虫营养效率指数和氮利用率;利用分光光度法测定了取食不同蛋白水平饵料的德国小蠊雄成虫体内黄嘌呤氧化酶(xanthine oxidase, XOD)、谷草转氨酶(glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase, GOT)、谷丙转氨酶(glutamic pyruvic transaminase, GPT)活性及尿酸含量。【结果】取食65%蛋白质饵料组的德国小蠊雄成虫的相对取食量最高,而取食45%蛋白质饵料组的雄成虫食物利用率、食物转化率及相对生长率均显著高于取食5%和65%蛋白质饵料组的雄成虫。且德国小蠊雄成虫体内氮、粪便氮、氮消耗速率、氮排泄率、氮生成率、氮同化效率、黄嘌呤氧化酶活性和尿酸含量均随饵料蛋白质水平的提高而提高,但65%蛋白质饵料组氮利用率最低,45%蛋白质饵料组谷草转氨酶活性最高,25%和45%蛋白质饵料组谷丙转氨酶活性显著高于5%和65%蛋白质饵料组。【结论】适量蛋白质饵料有利于德国小蠊对食物及氮的利用,而高蛋白质含量条件下德国小蠊谷草转氨酶和谷丙转氨酶活性下降,说明高蛋白不利于德国小蠊利用食物,且增加其代谢负担。  相似文献

Crustaceans exhibit a remarkable variation in their feeding habits and food type, but most knowledge on carbohydrate digestion and utilization in this group has come from research on few species. The aim of this study was to make an integrative analysis of dietary carbohydrate utilization in the spiny lobster Panulirus argus. We used complementary methodologies such as different assessments of digestibility, activity measurements of digestive and metabolic enzymes, and post-feeding flux of nutrients and metabolites. Several carbohydrates were well digested by the lobster, but maize starch was less digestible than all other starches studied, and its inclusion in diet affected protein digestibility. Most intense hydrolysis of carbohydrates in the gastric chamber of lobster occurred between 2–6 h after ingestion and afterwards free glucose increased in hemolymph. The inclusion of wheat in diet produced a slow clearance of glucose from the gastric fluid and a gradual increase in hemolymph glucose. More intense hydrolysis of protein in the gastric chamber occurred 6–12 h after ingestion and then amino acids tended to increase in hemolymph. Triglyceride concentration in hemolymph rose earlier in wheat-fed lobsters than in lobsters fed other carbohydrates, but it decreased the most 24 h later. Analyses of metabolite levels and activities of different metabolic enzymes revealed that intermolt lobsters had a low capacity to store and use glycogen, although it was slightly higher in wheat-fed lobsters. Lobsters fed maize and rice diets increased amino acid catabolism, while wheat-fed lobsters exhibited higher utilization of fatty acids. Multivariate analysis confirmed that the type of carbohydrate ingested had a profound effect on overall metabolism. Although we found no evidence of a protein-sparing effect of dietary carbohydrate, differences in the kinetics of their digestion and absorption impacted lobster metabolism determining the fate of other nutrients.  相似文献

通过在饲料中配制不同鱼粉和菜粕比例,探讨利用菜粕蛋白替代鱼粉对异育银鲫(Carssius auratus gibelio)的生长和饲料利用的影响。饲料中菜粕蛋白替代鱼粉蛋白的比例分别为 0、20%、40%、60% 和80%。实验结果表明,当饲料中菜粕蛋白比例高于40%时,异育银鲫的生长显著下降(P0.05),对摄食率影响不明显(P0.05)。在80%替代水平下,干物质和蛋白质的消化率最低,能量消化率在40%替代水平最低。饲料转化效率在20%蛋白替代后明显下降(P0.05)。蛋白质和能量储积率在40%蛋白替代后明显下降(P0.05)。在40%菜粕蛋白下,鱼体能量和脂肪含量最高。鱼体蛋白质在60% 和80% 菜粕蛋白时最低,脂肪在20% 菜粕蛋白时最高。因此饲料菜粕蛋白的水平不超过20%(干物质含量约17%)不会影响异育银鲫的生长和饲料转化。    相似文献

The effects of rapeseed and soya bean expeller (SBE) supplementation on digestion and milk production responses in dairy cows were investigated in an incomplete Latin square design using five cows and four 3-week periods. The experimental diets consisted of five concentrate treatments fed at a rate of 9 kg/day: a mixture of barley and oats, which was replaced with rapeseed or SBE at two levels (CP concentration (g/kg dry matter (DM)) of 130 for the control concentrate and 180 and 230 for the two protein supplemented levels). A mixture of grass and red clover silage (1:1) was fed ad libitum and it had a CP concentration of 157 g/kg DM. Supply of nutrients to the lower tract was measured using the omasal canal sampling technique, and total digestion from total faecal collection. Protein supplementation increased omasal canal amino acid (AA) flows and plasma concentrations of AA, and was also reflected as increased milk production. However, N use efficiency (NUE) decreased with increased protein supplementation. Rapeseed expeller (RSE) tended to increase silage DM intake and elicited higher milk production responses compared with SBE and also resulted in a higher NUE. The differences between the protein supplements in nitrogen metabolism were relatively small, for example, there were no differences in the efficiency of microbial protein synthesis or omasal canal flows of nitrogenous components between them, but plasma methionine concentration was lower for soya bean-fed cows at the high CP level in particular. The lower milk protein production responses to SBE than to RSE supplementation were at least partly caused by increased silage DM and by the lower methionine supply, which may further have been amplified by the use of red clover in the basal diet. Although feed intake, diet digestion, AA supply and milk production were all consistently improved by protein supplementation, there was a simultaneous decrease in NUE. In the current study, the milk protein production increased only 9% and energy-corrected milk production by 7% when high level of protein supplementation (on average 2.9 kg DM/day) was compared with the control diet without protein supplementation showing that dairy production could be sustained at a high level even without external protein supplements, at least in the short term. The economic and environmental aspects need to be carefully evaluated when decisions about protein supplementation for dairy cows are taken.  相似文献

The influence of dietary nitrogen (N) available in the rumen on the efficiency of microbial protein production was examined for 43 predominantly low-roughage diets given to cattle or sheep with rumen and duodenal (re-entrant) cannulae. The minimum amount of available N required for efficient microbial protein production was 2.0 g/100 g of organic matter actually digested in the rumen. When the diet supplied 2.7 g of available N/100 g of organic matter actually digested in the rumen, there was no net utilisation of recycled N.From this information, concentrations of N in organic matter required in low-roughage diets differing in organic matter digestibility and availability of dietary N have been calculated. Also a method of calculating the quantities of amino acid N and of particular amino acids absorbed from the small intestine from a knowledge of the diet composition is presented.  相似文献

Although consequences of limited dietary protein and carbohydrate to performance are well studied for terrestrial insect herbivores, the importance of phosphorus (P) remains poorly understood. We examined the significance of dietary P to performance in fifth-instar nymphs of the grasshopper Melanoplus bivittatus fed artificial diets. Consumption, digestion, developmental rate, and growth in response to different levels of P nested within standard-Protein and carbohydrate diets were determined. Developmental rate was slowest on high-P diets; protein:carbohydrate concentration and P in diets affected frass production and consumption. Approximate digestibility and conversion of digested food were primarily influenced by the protein:carbohydrate quality of the diet but not P. Mass gain was marginally lower in the low-Protein:high carbohydrate diet used in this study. At the individual level, other than small effects to developmental rate at high concentrations for M. bivittatus, dietary P otherwise seems to have little effect on nymphal performance. To the degree that it is important, effects of dietary P depend on the concentrations of protein and carbohydrate in the diet.  相似文献

A diet containing adequate amounts of protein rapidly suppresses myofibrillar protein degradation in rats and mice. This study determined whether dietary amino acids inhibit postprandial protein degradation in rat skeletal muscle. When rats fed on a 20% casein diet for 1 h after 18 h starvation, the rate of myofibrillar protein degradation measured by N(tau)-methylhistidine release from the isolated extensor digitorum longus muscle was significantly (p < 0.05) decreased at 4 h after refeeding. A diet containing an amino acid mixture which is the same composition as casein also reduced myofibrillar protein degradation at 4 h after refeeding (p < 0.05). An essential amino acid mixture (15.1%, corresponding to casein composition) and a leucine (2.9%) diets reduced the rate of myofibrillar protein degradation after refeeding (p < 0.05), whereas a protein free diet did not. Administration of leucine alone (0.135 g/100 g body weight) by a feeding tube induced a decrease in the rate of myofibrillar protein degradation at 2 h after administration (p < 0.05), whereas the serum insulin concentration was constant after leucine administration. These results suggested that leucine is one of regulating factors of myofibrillar protein degradation after refeeding of a protein diet.  相似文献

We assessed the effects of the isoflavonoid rotenone, an insecticidal allelochemical occurring in various legumes, on larval performance of three polyphagous noctuid species: the corn earworm (CEW), the fall armyworm (FAW) and the southern armyworm (SAW). As rotenone concentration was increased up to 1% fresh mass in an artificial diet, neither mortality (for all three species) nor food consumption (for SAW and FAW) was significantly affected, but developmental time of the latter two species was prolonged. In contrast, for CEW developmental time was shortened and food consumption declined, especially at the two highest rotenone concentrations. Final biomass of all three species declined as dietary rotenone increased.Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) was used to evaluate larval food utilization analogous to, but without the potential statistical problems of, the traditional ratio-based indices approximate digestibility (AD) and efficiency of conversion of digested food (ECD). Frass output, statistically adjusted to account for differences in consumption, increased with rotenone concentration for all three species, suggesting that, when ingested, this allelochemical interfered with the digestion and/or absorption of ingested food, especially at the higher concentrations tested.Significant statistical interactions in the ANCOVA necessitated the use of utilization plots to examine the linear regressions between biomass gain and absorption at each rotenone concentration. At the two highest concentrations, rotenone tended to reduce the amount of food absorbed by the larvae, as well as their ability to convert the absorbed food to biomass.When piperonyl butoxide, an inhibitor of the polysubstrate monooxygenase (PSMO) system known to metabolize rotenone, was added to the diet along with 0.5 or 1% rotenone, mortality increased significantly only for FAW, approaching or exceeding 50%. The only apparent effects of dietary rotenone on PSMO (aldrin epoxidase) activity (adjusted by ANCOVA for the covariate, crude homogenate protein) were for CEW, where activity decreased in all rotenone treatments compared to the control, and for SAW, where activity at the 3 lowest rotenone concentrations (0.001–0.1% fm) declined about 50% below that of larvae on the control diet, whereas at 0.5 and 1% rotenone, it increased approximately 2-fold over that on the control diet.  相似文献

The effect of dietary protein on eIF4E phosphorylation was examined in rats starved for 18 h and then fed on either a 20% casein diet (20C) or a protein-free diet (0C). Refeeding with the 20C diet, but not the 0C diet, resulted in partial dephosphorylation of eIF4E in both the skeletal muscle and liver. The results suggest that the dephosphorylation of eIF4E in response to food intake was regulated by the increase in plasma amino acid concentration that occurred after feeding with the 20C diet.  相似文献

通过65d的生长实验, 探讨饲料中不同缬氨酸水平对异育银鲫(Carassius auratus gibelio)幼鱼平均体重(3.17±0.01)g/尾生长性能、饲料利用和蛋白利用的影响, 确定异育银鲫对饲料中缬氨酸的需要量。实验设计由酪蛋白、明胶和晶体氨基酸为蛋白源的8种等氮(蛋白含量:38%)等能(总能:17.0 kJ/g)的半精制饲料, 其缬氨酸水平等梯度逐步升高(0.54、0.79、1.04、1.29、1.54、1.79、2.04、2.29%饲料干物质)。各实验饲料中缬氨酸的实测值分别为:0.66、0.85、1.07、1.22、1.46、1.70、1.86和2.12%饲料干物质。饲料中其他必需氨基酸含量参照异育银鲫肌肉氨基酸模式。每种饲料饲喂3个重复,每个重复30尾鱼,养殖于塑料方箱中(70 cm×55 cm×50 cm;水体容积:150 L), 养殖系统为室内流水系统(500 mL/min流速), 每天两次饱食连续投喂(9:00和16:00)。实验结果表明,饲料中适量的缬氨酸显著提高了异育银鲫的特定生长率、饲料转化效率和蛋白沉积率(P0.05), 但显著影响了血清谷氨酰胺的浓度(P0.05), 但不同的缬氨酸水平显著影响了鱼体灰分含量(P<0.05)。对各处理组异育银鲫特定生长率的结果进行二次回归分析, 结果表明满足异育银鲫最大生长的缬氨酸需求量为饲料干物质的1.72%, 即占饲料蛋白的4.53%。    相似文献

Reducing dietary CP content is an effective approach to reduce animal nitrogen excretion and save protein feed resources. However, it is not clear how reducing dietary CP content affects the nutrient digestion and absorption in the gut of ruminants, therefore it is difficult to accurately determine how much reduction in dietary CP content is appropriate. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of reduced dietary CP content on N balance, intestinal nutrient digestion and absorption, and rumen microbiota in growing goats. To determine N balance, 18 growing wether goats (25.0 ± 0.5 kg) were randomly assigned to one of three diets: 13.0% (control), 11.5% and 10.0% CP. Another 18 growing wether goats (25.0 ± 0.5 kg) were surgically fitted with ruminal, proximate duodenal, and terminal ileal fistulae and were randomly assigned to one of the three diets to investigate intestinal amino acid (AA) absorption and rumen microbiota. The results showed that fecal and urinary N excretion of goats fed diets containing 11.5% and 10.0% CP were lower than those of goats fed the control diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, N retention was decreased and apparent N digestibility in the entire gastrointestinal tract was increased in goats fed the 10% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the duodenal flow of lysine, tryptophan and phenylalanine was decreased in goats fed the 11.5% CP diet (P < 0.05) and that of lysine, methionine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, leucine, glutamic acid, tyrosine, essential AAs (EAAs) and total AAs (TAAs) was decreased in goats fed the 10.0% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the apparent absorption of TAAs in the small intestine was increased in goats fed the 11.5% CP diet (P < 0.05) and that of isoleucine, serine, cysteine, EAAs, non-essential AAs, and TAAs in the small intestine was increased in goats fed the 10.0% CP diet (P < 0.05). When compared with goats fed the control diet, the relative richness of Bacteroidetes and Fibrobacteres was increased and that of Proteobacteria and Synergistetes was decreased in the rumen of goats fed a diet with 10.0% CP. In conclusion, reducing dietary CP content reduced N excretion and increased nutrient utilization by improving rumen fermentation, enhancing nutrient digestion and absorption, and altering rumen microbiota in growing goats.  相似文献

Abstract Dilution of an artificial diet with water or cellulose to nutrient levels of 32% (undiluted), 19% and 10% fresh weight (fw) resulted in increased fw and dry weight (dw) food consumption (both absolute amounts and weight-relative rates) by velvetbean caterpillars, Anticarsia gemmatalis Hübner. Despite these increases, the absolute amount and relative rate of nutrient intake by the caterpillars declined with dilution, as did their dw gain and dw (% fw) and lipid (% dw) contents. The proportion of consumed food (dw, including cellulose) that was digested and absorbed declined with increased dietary cellulose; however, the proportion of consumed nutrients (dw, excluding cellulose) that was digested and absorbed was not affected by the presence of cellulose, although it increased slightly (but significantly) with dietary water. The efficiency with which the absorbed nutrients were converted to biomass energy showed a negative relationship with the various measures of food consumption and thus a positive relationship with dietary nutrient level.
The compensatory increases in feeding mitigated the deleterious impact of dietary dilution on growth, which would have declined further without the increased feeding. These data suggest that food consumption is regulated primarily through an evaluation of food nutrient level, and that the metabolic costs associated with the increased consumption and processing of food may be substantial, especially on the most diluted diets. Another hypothesized cost of increased feeding, reduced efficiency of digestion and absorption as food presumably passes more rapidly through the gut, was not detected.  相似文献

We determined the effect of dietary starch on growth performance and feed utilization in European sea bass juveniles. Data on the dietary regulation of key hepatic enzymes of the glycolytic, gluconeogenic, lipogenic and amino acid metabolic pathways (hexokinase, HK; glucokinase, GK; pyruvate kinase, PK; fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase, FBPase; glucose-6-phosphatase, G6Pase; glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, G6PD; alanine aminotransferase, ALAT; aspartate aminotransferase, ASAT and glutamate dehydrogenase, GDH) were also measured. Five isonitrogenous (48% crude protein) and isolipidic (14% crude lipids) diets were formulated to contain 10% normal starch (diet NS10), 10% waxy starch (diet WS10), 20% normal starch (diet NS20), 20% waxy starch (diet WS20) or no starch (control diet). Another diet was formulated with no carbohydrate, and contained 68% crude protein and 14% crude lipids (diet HP). Each experimental diet was fed to triplicate groups of 30 fish (initial weight: 23.3 g) on an equivalent feeding scheme for 12 weeks. The best growth performance and feed efficiency were achieved with fish fed the HP diet. Neither the level nor the nature of starch had measurable effects on growth performance of sea bass juveniles. Digestibility of starch was higher with waxy starch and decreased with increasing levels of starch in the diet. Whole-body composition and plasma metabolites, mainly glycemia, were not affected by the level and nature of the dietary starch. Data on enzyme activities suggest that dietary carbohydrates significantly improve protein utilization associated with increased glycolytic enzyme activities (GK and PK), as well as decreased gluconeogenic (FBPase) and amino acid catabolic (GDH) enzyme activities. The nature of dietary carbohydrates tested had little influence on performance criteria.  相似文献

Nymphal development and adult female reproduction were examined in the German cockroach, Blattella germanica, using a defined artificial diet in which the type of protein was varied. Milk proteins, including casein, supported development poorly compared to meat and plant proteins. Soybean protein supported development better than all other highly purified proteins including vitamin-free casein which is commonly used in artificial diets. Last instar females fed the soybean-based diet eclosed earlier at higher eclosion weights, developed their oocytes at a faster rate and experienced higher fecundity than females fed a vitamin-free casein-based diet. Last instar females exhibited different dose-response patterns on diets containing soybean isolate or vitamin-free casein. However, at all concentrations soybean protein was superior to casein in supporting development. The results of a food utilization study during the last instar revealed that consumption rates varied between females fed the soybean and casein based diets. However, approximate digestibility, efficiency of conversion of digested food and the efficiency of conversion of ingested food did not vary significantly between the two dietary treatments. Differential development of females fed the two diets was attributed to differences in stage-specific consumption rates and the poorer quality of casein as a source of protein for development in this species.  相似文献

Most studies on the interaction between food supply and reproduction in animals have assumed that energy is likely to be the factor limiting egg number and/or size. In this paper, we investigate whether dietary protein proximately constrains egg production in birds. We provisioned breeding blue tits with two food supplements that differed only in the concentration of five essential amino acids. Birds receiving a supplementary diet containing an amino acid balance close to that required for egg protein formation laid significantly larger clutches (18% greater) than control birds, whereas birds receiving an otherwise identical supplementary diet but without a favourable amino acid balance did not increase egg production. To our knowledge, this is the first demonstration that dietary amino acid composition may limit egg production in free-living birds.  相似文献
