Summary The rate of resistance to tetracycline and chloramphenicol amongSalmonella strains isolated in the Netherlands in 1961 was found to be 3.96%, the corresponding figures for 1958/1959 and 1961 being 2.08 and 1.29 respectively. In this country the total number ofSalmonella types found to develop resistance to either tetracycline or chloramphenicol now amounts to 38. Almost 77% of all resistant strains isolated in 1961 were found among the human pathogenS.typhimurium. The relative frequency of resistance in this organism was 8.18%, as compared with 2.50% in 1958/1959 and 1.80% in 1960. In 1961 some cross infections caused by tetracycline resistant strains ofS.typhimurium were observed in man and on one occasion also in a herd of calves. A similar outbreak due to a tetracycline resistant strain ofS.bovis morbificans was seen in a hospital. As almost 87% of all antibiotic resistant strains found in 1961 originated from human patients, the resistance must be largely attributed to the therapeutic use of the drugs in question.  相似文献

Summary The incidence of resistance to tetracycline and chloramphenicol amongSalmonella strains, which had been 2.08% in the years 1958 and 1959, dropped to 1.29% in 1960, in spite of the greatly increased use of tetracyclines in cattle-feeds in that year. It is therefore suggested that the resistance to antibiotics found amongSalmonella strains is practically entirely due to the therapeutic use of these drugs.  相似文献

Out of 12,472 strains ofSalmonella isolated in the Netherlands in 1962, 1365, or 10.94%, were found to be resistant to tetracycline or chloramphenicol or to both. Compared with the findings of the preceding years (1958/59:2.08%, 1960:1.29%, 1961:3.96%) this is a considerable increase. Of these 1365 strains, 1285, or 94.1%, were resistant to tetracycline and 46, or 3.4%, were resistant to chloramphenicol. The remaining 34 strains, or 2.5%, were resistant to both drugs.Among allSalmonella strains isolated in 1962, 5517 belonged to the speciesS. typhi murium. Of these, 1203 or 21.8%, were resistant to tetracycline. The resistance rates of strains originating from human patients, calves, pigs, other animals and other materials were 24.4%, 37.1%, 15.0%, 8.0% and 5.7% respectively.Factors which may possibly have contributed to the greatly increased frequency of drug resistance inS. typhi murium are: (1) the rapid spread of the use of tetracycline for therapeutic, prophylactic and nutritive purposes, and (2) the possibility of an episome-mediated transfer of drug resistance from relatively harmless intestinal bacteria, such asE. coli, toS. typhi murium.  相似文献

A total of 240 Salmonella strains, 158 from 730 fish samples and 82 from 276 crustacean samples, obtained during a 2 year period, were examined for resistance to 10 antibiotics. More than 90% of the strains were resistant to bacitracin, penicillin and novobiocin. The least resistance was observed to chloramphenicol (6·7%) and nalidixic acid (12%). Multiple antibiotic resistance indexing of the strains showed that more than 95% originated from high risk sources of contamination such as poultry, swine, cattle and human environments where antibiotics are often used.  相似文献

Resistance to 14 antibiotics was tested in 270 Salmonella strains isolated from different aquatic environments. All the strains were sensitive to nalidixic acid (30 μg) and cephalothin (30 μg) but more than 90% were resistant to tetracycline (30 μg). The percentage of strains resistant to other antimicrobial substances depended on the antibiotic and on the isolation source. Twenty-four resistance patterns were recorded in strains isolated from three environmental sources. The only multi-resistance detected in the three ecosystems was that of sulphadiazine and tetracycline (about 20%). The serotypes most frequently detected with multi-resistance to different antibiotics were Salmonella typhimurium and Salm. blockley.  相似文献

Twenty-three strains of Salmonella spp. isolated from healthy humans in Guangdong, China, were examined for their susceptibility to ten common antibiotics and the presence of antibiotic resistance integrons. All the strains were resistant to at least one antibiotic, and 4 strains were positive for the intI1 gene. Polymerase chain reaction using in-F and in-B primers showed the existence of amplicons of 1,009 bp in two, 1,664 bp in one, and 1,009 bp and 1,664 bp in one of the intI1 -positive isolates, respectively. Sequence analysis revealed that the 1,009-bp amplicon harbored gene cassette aadA2, conferring resistance to spectinomycin, and the 1,664-bp amplicon harbored genes aadA5 and dfr17, conferring resistance to spectinomycin, streptomycin and trimethoprim. Meanwhile the experiments of plasmid conjugation and Southern hybridization with intI1 as the DNA probe indicated that all the integrons found in these strains were chromosomal. Because the strains carrying class 1 integrons were isolated from healthy humans, it suggests the need for all-round surveillance of the antibiotic resistance of pathogens.  相似文献

A total of 1800 S. typhimurium strains isolated in different regions of the USSR in 1968-1979 were studied. Of these strains, 68.6% were resistant to 6-8 antibiotics, 7.8% were resistant to 2-5 antibiotics, and 23.6% proved to be resistant to all antibiotics. The number of multiresistant strains sharply increased during the last 10 years. The strains isolated from different sources and in different epidemic situations considerably differed in their sensitivity to the action of antibiotics. The infective agents isolated from the hospital foci of salmonellosis were found to possess the maximum multiresistance. The study of the genetic nature of multiresistance showed that the multiresistance strains had a conjugative R-plasmid with resistance determinants CmTc, type Fin+, incompatibility group F1me. The phage typing of the strains with phages from the collection of the Tbilisi Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera revealed that these strains belonged to phagotype 2. The problems of the relationship between the biological properties of causative agents and the character of the epidemic process of the diseases caused by these agents are discussed.  相似文献

Escherichia coli, Enterobacter aerogenes and S. schottmuelleri were isolated from the large intestine of a bacteriocarrier. E. coli and E. aerogenes strains proved to be resistant to a number of antibiotics. Plasmids were detected in DNA preparations obtained from E. coli strains. After the hybridization of these E. coli strains with E. coli C600 5K and S. schottmuelleri at 28 degrees C the transfer of resistance to kanamycin was found to occur. From some of the transconjugates thus obtained resistance to kanamycin was transferred to E. aerogenes. This resistance was found to be controlled by the plasmid with a molecular weight exceeding 2 Md. The fact that S. schottmuelleri in the carrier's body retained their sensitivity to antibiotics can be explained by the absence of the transfer of plasmid Kmr at a temperature exceeding 28 degrees C and by the existence of the infective agent in an ecological niche other than that of E. coli.  相似文献
