It is known that certain inorganic trace elements such as vanadium, zinc, chromium, copper, iron, potassium, sodium, and nickel play an important role in the maintenance of normoglycemia by activating the beta-cells of the pancreas. In the present study, the elemental composition in the leaves of four traditional medicinal plants (Murraya koenigii, Mentha piperitae, Ocimum sanctum, and Aegle marmelos) widely used in the treatment of diabetes-related metabolic disorders has been studied using atomic absorption spectroscopy. The levels of Cu, Ni, Zn, K, and Na were found to be in trace amounts, whereas Fe, Cr, and V levels were found in marginal levels. The importance of these elements in disorders related to diabetes is also briefly discussed.  相似文献

First-principles calculations were performed for fluorine-decorated graphene (fluorographene). Three different hexagonal clusters were used—circular (C24H12), triangular (C23H10) and rectangular (C24H12)—and the fluorine atoms were randomly distributed in the mesh. Graphene is structurally stable in the three geometries, but fluorographene stability is only attained for the circular and triangular clusters. Gaps of the circular graphene and the corresponding fluorographene are 2.94 and 1.13 eV, respectively; in the triangular case, the values are zero and 0.47 eV. Both the circular and triangular structures show a transition from ionic to covalent character.  相似文献

This paper examines the traditional use of medicinal plants in Loja province, Southern Ecuador. Two hundred fifteen plant species were collected, identified and their vernacular names and traditional uses recorded. This number of species indicates that the healers, market vendors and members of the public interviewed still have a very high knowledge of plants in their surroundings, which can be seen as a reflection of the knowledge of the population in general. However, the area represents only an outlier of the larger Northern Peruvian cultural area, where more than 500 species of plants are used medicinally, indicating that in Ecuador much of the original plant knowledge has already been lost. Most plant species registered are only used medicinally, and only a few species have any other use (construction, fodder, food). The highest number of species is used for the treatment of "magical" (psychosomatic) ailments (39 species), followed by respiratory disorders (34), problems of the urinary tract (28), Fever/Malaria (25), Rheumatism (23) and nervous system problems (20).  相似文献

Zinc status was assessed in 53 diabetic patients: 18 insulin-dependent diabetic patients (IDDM), 22 noninsulin-dependent diabetic patients (NIDDM) treated with oral antidiabetic agents, and 13 insulin-treated, noninsulin-dependent diabetic patients (IRDM). Plasma zinc concentrations were in the usual range for healthy subjects in these three groups (15.3±0.9 μmol/L). Urinary zinc excretions were elevated in the IDDM group (18.3±4.1 μmol/24 h;p<0.01 vs normal) and in the NIDDM group (17.5±3.5 μmol/24 h;p<0.01 vs normal), but normal in the IRDM group (11.3±2.4 μmol/24 h). In 14 NIDDM patients treated with transient continuous sc insulin injections, urinary zinc decreased from 16.5±2.2 μmol/24 h before insulin treatment to 11.5±0.3 μmol/24 h after insulin treatment without any modification in plasma zinc concentrations.  相似文献

The influence of insulin preparations (Actrapid and Ransulin) on the glucose and insulin blood level has been studied in patients with diabetes mellitus. It has been shown that comparable changes in the measured parameters are achieved in most patients with oral doses of Ransulin that are two to three times higher than the doses of Actrapid.  相似文献

The structure and the regulatory mechanisms of insulin gene expression as well as the structure of the 5'-regulatory region of its gene are reviewed. Protein binding sites of the 5'-enhancer area of the insulin gene were identified by methods of site mutation, footprinting and competitive amplification in several papers. Diabetes induced by site mutation of the insulin gene is considered. Some viruses and viral proteins suppress the regulatory region of the insulin gene and induce diabetes symptoms. Transgenic animals carrying the natural human insulin gene together with the 5'-regulatory sequence in their genome show elevated human insulin and C-peptide secretion in response to high blood glucose concentration. The insulin receptor gene structure and mechanisms of insulin receptor functioning are discussed.  相似文献
