The regulation of the partitioning of dry matter and calciumin relation to fruit growth was investigated in cucumber plantsgrown in the salinity range of 3-8 mS cm-1 in NFT (NutrientFilm Culture), with or without a fruit pruning treatment. Thedry weight gain of the plants was proportional to the outdoorintegral irradiance, with a common daily rate of 1 g MJ-1 m-2in two crops grown under summer (18 MJ m-2 d-1) and autumn (7MJ m-2 d-1) conditions. Within the salinity range studied, thereduction of plant dry weight was 9% mS-1 cm-1. However, fruitdry weight was only reduced at salinities above 5·5 mScm-1, although the daily dry matter accumulation by fruit, asa percentage of total dry matter accumulation, was increased.Salinity reduced the dry matter accumulation in the young shootproportionally more than in the fruit. Although the total plantCa content was reduced by 13% mS-1 cm-1, the Ca content of theyoung shoot was reduced by 16·6%, compared to 11% inthe fruit. Pruning fruit reduced neither plant dry weight norCa uptake. The growth of the remaining fruit, and to a lesserdegree of the young shoot, accounted for all surplus assimilates. Thus, fruit were the dominant sinks for assimilates whilst themature leaves were the strongest sinks for Ca. Nevertheless, the fruit sustained the capacity to import Ca better than theyoung shoot, when supplies of both assimilates and Ca were reducedby high salinity.Copyright 1994, 1999 Academic Press Cucumber, Cucumis sativus L., salinity, fruit pruning, dry matter and calcium  相似文献

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merrill] seeds and cotyledons weregrown in an in vitro culture system to investigate the relationshipsbetween cell expansion (net water uptake by the seed) and drymatter accumulation. Seeds or cotyledons grown in a completenutrient medium containing 200 mol m–3 sucrose continueddry matter accumulation for up to 16 d after in planta seedsreached physiological maturity (maximum seed dry weight). Seedor cotyledon water content increased throughout the cultureperiod and the water concentration remained above 600 g kg–1fresh weight. These data indicate that the cessation of seeddry matter accumulation is controlled by the physiological environmentof the seed and is not a pre-determined seed characteristic.Adding 600 mol m–3 mannitol to the medium caused a decreasein seed water content and concentration. Seeds in this mediumstopped accumulating dry matter at a water concentration ofapproximately 550 g kg–1. The data suggest that dry matteraccumulation by soybean seeds can continue only as long as thereis a net uptake of water to drive cell expansion. In the absenceof a net water uptake, continued dry matter accumulation causesdesiccation which triggers maturation. Key words: Glycine max (L.) The main objective of this study was to determine the relationshipbetween the relative rate of growth of emerging wheat leavesand the hexose sugar concentration of the extension zone. Shortperiods of intense shading (to 20 or 5% of full sun for up to14 d) were used to decrease hexose concentrations. Shading decreased hexose concentrations to a fraction of thatof controls and also resulted in thin and narrow leaves thatwere less in dry weight than control leaves of the same length.Shading did however increase the length of the zone of extendingtissue at the leaf base by 30%. The effect of hexose concentrations on the relative rate ofleaf growth was evaluated by determining the ratio between growthrates of shaded and control leaves. This ratio declined as hexoseconcentrations declined and the relationship was described bya rectangular hyperbola (r > 0.95, P < 0.01). Combineddata from many leaves on the main shoot and its tillers fromtwo irrigated wheat crops all conformed to the same relationship. The hexose concentrations where the ratio of growth rates washalf the maximum rate were 0.42 mg g–1 fr. wt. for extensiongrowth and 1.74 mg g–1 fr. wt. for dry weight growth. These values were significantly (P < 0.01) different. These results were compared with data from emerging leaves offield crops and it was concluded that hexose concentrationshad not limited leaf growth rates, the lowest values recordedbeing 2.5–3.0 mg g–1 fr. wt. It was further suggestedas unlikely that leaf growth rates of wheat crops in the fieldwould be limited by hexose concentrations.  相似文献

The effects of withdrawing nitrogen (N) from the nutrient solutionof adult tomato plants growing in rockwool in a greenhouse wereinvestigated over a 6 week period during fruit production. Thetreatment reduced total plant growth after a lag period of about2 weeks. The commercial fruit yield after 6 weeks of N deprivationwas 7.7 kg m-2compared to 9.3 kg m-2in control plants. Duringthe experiment, growth of the -N plants was fuelled by N reservescontained in both the substrate (rockwool) and in plant organs. The nitrogen budget calculated for -N plants showed that onlya small amount of organic-N was readily available for internalcycling from organs such as stems. It served mainly to feedgrowing fruits which were the main sinks in the plant. The studyalso established that stores of nitrate-N were fully depletedbut it took 45 d for the -N plants to metabolize completelytheir nitrate reserves. This indicates that internal nitrateis not a readily-accessible store of labile N. An estimationof the critical N concentration (%Nc) in the aerial dry matterwas made from the data. Thus, for a crop yielding about 9.9tons DM ha-1, %Ncwas close to 2.5%. This result is discussedin light of existing models that describe the ontogenic declinein %Ncin dry biomass of C3plants. The study indicates that thecurrent regime of N fertilization practised in soilless culturesnot only leads to ineffective nitrogen use but also to largelosses of N to the environment; N concentrations should be decreasedin feeding recipes. The use of N-free nutrient solutions priorto the termination of plant culture may also be a means of limitingthe loss of eutrophying elements, such as nitrate, to the environment.Copyright 2001 Annals of Botany Company Lycopersicon esculentum, tomato, organ dry biomass, critical nitrogen concentration, compartment, rockwool, nitrate interruption, distribution, reserves  相似文献

Determination of a Critical Nitrogen Dilution Curve for Winter Wheat Crops   总被引:31,自引:0,他引:31
A set of N-fertilization field experiments was used to determinethe 'critical nitrogen concentration', i.e, the minimal concentrationof total N in shoots that produced the maximum aerial dry matter,at a given time and field situation. A unique 'critical nitrogendilution curve' was obtained by plotting these concentrationsNct (% DM) vs. accumulated shoot biomass DM (t ha-1). It couldbe described by the equation: Nct = 5·35DM-0·442 when shoot biomass was between 1·55 and 12 t ha-1. Anexcellent fit was obtained between model and data (r2 = 0·98,15 d.f.). A very close relationship was found using reducedN instead of total N, because the nitrate concentrations inshoots corresponding to critical points were small. The criticalcurve was rather close to those reported by Greenwood et al.(1990) for C3 plants. However, this equation did not apply whenshoot biomass was less than 1·55 t ha-1. In this case, the critical N concentration was independent of shoot biomass:the constant critical value Nct = 4·4% is suggested forreduced-N. The model was validated in all the experimental situations,in spite of large differences in growth rate, cultivar, soiland climatic conditions; shoot biomass varying from 0·2to 14 t ha-1. Plant N concentration was found to vary by a factor of fourat a given shoot biomass level. In the heavily fertilized treatments, shoot N concentration could be 60% higher than the criticalconcentration. Most (on average 80%) of the extra N accumulatedwas in the form of reduced N. The proportion of nitrate to totalN in shoot mainly depended on the crop stage of development. It was independent of the nitrogen nutrition level.Copyright1994, 1999 Academic Press Winter wheat, Triticum aestivum, arable crops, plant N concentration, aerial biomass, critical nitrogen, dilution curve, fertilization, reduced N, nitrate  相似文献

A generalized equation is derived that relates total dry matterproduction to time from emergence for crops grown in the fieldwith adequate water and nutrients. It is: w+K1lnw+W0=K2t where w is the plant dry weight in t ha–1, t is time indays after emergence, K2 and K1 are constants and W0 equals–(w0+K1lnw0) where w0 is the value of w at the start ofthe growing period. The increases in the dry matter of 18 different types of vegetablecrop were measured at intervals during growth in the field. In every case the data fitted the equation very satisfactorilywith K1 set equal to 1 t ha–1. The fitted values of K2were similar for many crops; those of W0 varied considerablybut were always similar to the values calculated from the individualseed weight and the plant population. Good fits were also obtainedwhen time in days was replaced with cumulative evaporation froman open water surface. It is concluded that the growth-time curves of many differentvegetable crops can be described by the same simple equationand that the variation between curves can be largely attributedto differences in seed weight and plant population.  相似文献

In studies of Trifolium repens nitrogen nutrition, the controlof nutrient solution pH using dipolar buffers, was evaluatedin tube culture under sterile conditions. Five buffers; MES,ADA, ACES, BES and MOPS with pK2s (20 °C) of 6.15, 6.60,6.90, 7.15 and 7.20 respectively, at a concentration of 2.0mol m–3, were provided to inoculated Trifolium repensgrowing in nutrient solution containing 7.13 mol m–3 nitrogenas (NH4)2SO4. Initial pH of each solution was adjusted to theappropriate buffer pK2 Two buffers, ADA and ACES completelyinhibited plant growth. The remaining buffers had little effectin limiting pH change, although plant dry matter was higherand nodule numbers lower in the presence of these buffers. MESand MOPS were supplied to nutrient solutions with and without7.13 mol m–3 (NH4)2SO4, at concentrations ranging from0–12 mol m–3. MES at 9 mol m–3 and 12 molm–3 reduced growth of plants reliant on the symbiosisfor providing nitrogen. The provision of MES to plants providedwith NH4+ significantly increased plant yield and reduced nodulenumber at all concentrations. MOPS did not affect plant yieldor nodule number. The use of dipolar buffers in legume nitrogennutrition studies is considered in terms of buffering capacity, and the side effects on plant growth and symbiotic development. Rye (Secale cereale cv. Rheidol) and wheat (Triticum aestivumcv. Mardler) were grown at shoot/root temperatures of 20/20°C (warm grown, WG plants), 8/8 °C (cold grown, CG plants)and 20/8 °C (differential grown, DG plants). Plants fromcontrasting growth temperature regimes were standardized andcompared using a developmental timescale based on accumulatedthermal time (°C d) at the shoot meristem. Accumulationof dry matter, nitrogen and potassium were exponential overthe time period studied (150–550 °C d). In rye, therates of plant dry matter and f. wt accumulation were linearlyrelated to the temperature of the shoot meristem. However, inwheat, although the rates of plant dry matter and f. wt accumulationwere temperature dependent, the linear relationship with shootmeristem temperature was weaker than in rye. The shoot/rootratio of rye was stable irrespective of growth temperature treatment, but the shoot/root ratio of wheat varied with growth temperaturetreatment. The shoot/root ratio of DG wheat was 50% greaterthan WG wheat. In both cereals, nutrient concentrations anddry matter content tended to be greater in organs exposed directlyto low temperatures. The mean specific absorption rates of nutrientswere calculated for the whole period studied for each species/temperaturecombination and were positively correlated with both plant shoot/rootratio and relative growth rate. The data suggest that nutrientuptake rates were influenced primarily by plant demand, withno indication of specific nutrient limitations at low temperatures. The influence of varied supply of phosphorus (10 and 250 mmolP m–3) potassium (50 and 2010 mmol K m–3) and magnesium(20 and 1000 mmol Mg m–3) on the partitioning of dry matterand carbohydrates (reducing sugars, sucrose and starch) betweenshoots and roots was studied in bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) plantsgrown in nutrient solution over a 12 d period. Shoot and rootgrowth were quite differently affected by low supply of P, K,and Mg. The shoot/root dry weight ratios were 4.9 in the control(sufficient plants), 1.8 in P-deficient, 6.9 in K-deficientand 10.2 in Mg-deficient plants. In primary (source) leaves, but not in trifoliate leaves, concentrations of reducing sugars, sucrose and starch were also differently affected by low nutrientsupply. In primary leaves under K deficiency and, particularlyMg deficiency, the concentrations of sucrose and reducing sugarswere much higher than in control and P-deficient plants. Magnesiumdeficiency also distinctly increased the starch concentrationin the primary leaves. In contrast, in roots, the lowest concenfrationsof sucrose, reducing sugars and starch were found in Mg-deficientplants, whereas the concentrations of sucrose and starch wereparticularly high in P-deficient plants. There was a close relationshipbetween shoot/root dry weight ratios and relative distributionof total carbohydrates (sugars and starch) in shoot and roots.Of the total amounts of carbohyd rates per plant, the followingproportions were parti tioned to the roots: 22.7% in P-deficient,15.7% in control, 3.4% in K-deficient and 0.8% in Mg-deficientplants. The results indicate a distinct role of Mg and K in the exportof photosynthates from leaves to roots and suggest that alterationin photosynthate partitioning plays a major role in the differencesin dry matter distribution between shoots and roots of plantssuffering from mineral nutrient deficiency. The calanoid copepod, Eudiaplomus graciloides, was reared fromegg to adult on uni-algal diets (0.1. 0.5 and 2.5 mg dry wt1–1) using the green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii,as food, or on a mixed diet consisting of Lake Esrom water filteredthrough a plankton net with pore size 45 µm and supplementedwith C. reinhardtii (2.5 mg dry wt 1–1). On the mixeddiet at 21.0°C growth in body dry wt (W, µg dry wt)was exponential, and the growth constants were 0.21 day–1in the early to mid juvenile stage (N1 - C4) and 0.11 day–1in the late juvenile to early adult stage (C4-A). At 14.5°Cthe corresponding growth rate constants were 0.10 and 0.08 day–1.Similar growth rates were found at uni-algal concentrationsof 0.5 and 2.5 mg dry wt I–1, and it was argued that thethreshold concentration for growth in Eudiaptomus was closeto 0.1 mg dry wt I–1. The clearance (C, ml h–1)of copepodites was measured on the uni-algal diets. The constantsof the regression (C = aWb) were: a = 0.125, b = 0.858 (2000C. reinhardtii ml–1), a = 0.068, b = 0.849 (10 000), a= 0.028, b = 0.875 (50 000). Ingestion rates were calculatedfrom the clearances and the average algal concentrations. Atthe three food levels the average daily rations were 30, 67and 125% of body dry wt. The respiration rate (R, nl O2 h–1)was measured in individuals reared on the mixed diet. The constantsof the regression (R = aWb) were: a = 4.82, b = 1.07 (nauplii,14.5°C), a = 4.17, b = 0.904 (copepodites and adults, 14.5°C),a = 6.87, b = 0.757 (copepodites and adults, 21.0°C). Nosignificant difference in the respiration rate of copepoditesreared on uni-algal diets and the mixed diet could be demonstrated.Energy budgets were calculated. The assimilation efficiencyand the gross growth efficiency of copepodites decreased markedlywith increasing food concentration, the net growth efficiencyvaried from an average of 0.44 at the lowest algal concentrationto 0.60 on the mixed diet. The results are discussed in relationto previous findings with both freshwater and marine copepods.  相似文献

Pansies (Viola xwittrockiana Gams.) cv. Universal Violet weresown on five dates between Jul. and Dec. 1992 and placed insix temperature-controlled glasshouse compartments set to providemean temperatures between 6.5 and 30 °C. Shoot dry weightand leaf number were recorded. A model was constructed, to analysethe effects of light and temperature on dry matter accumulation, which assumed that relative growth rate (RGR) declined linearlywith thermal time accumulated from sowing, reflecting ontogeneticdrift. Furthermore, it assumed that RGR was a semi-ellipsoidfunction of temperature, rising to an optimum of 25.3 °Cand declining thereafter, and a positive linear function oflight integral. When fitted to data collected in this studythe model accounted for 94% of the variance in RGR. Independentvalidation using data from four further crops grown in glasshousecompartments at four different set point temperatures showedthat the model could also be used to predict plant dry weightaccurately (r 2=0.98). The rate of mainstem leaf productionwas also linearly related to both light integral and temperature. The single-gene mutation afila in pea (Pisum sativum L.) resultsin the replacement of proximal leaflets with branched tendrils, thereby reducing leaf area. This study investigated whethertheafila line could adjust biomass partitioning when exposedto varying nutrient regimes, to compensate for reduced leafarea, compared with wild-type plants. Wild-type and afila near-isogeniclines were grown in solution culture with nitrate-N added toinitially N-starved seedlings at relative addition rates (RN)of 0.06, 0.12, 0.15 and 0.50 d-1. The relative growth rate (RW)of the whole plants closely matched RNat 0.06 and 0.12 d-1,but higher RNresulted in a slightly higher growth rate. At agiven RN, the wild-type line had lower plant nitrogen statusthan the afila line. RWof the roots of the afila line was lessthan RWof the roots of the wild-type at the three higher ratesof N supply despite a greater accumulation of N in the rootsof the afila plants. Consequently, plant nitrogen productivity(growth rate per unit nitrogen) was lower for afila. Dry matterallocation was strongly influenced by nitrogen status, but nodifferences in shoot–root dry matter allocation were foundbetween wild-type and afila with the same plant N status. Theseresults imply that decreased leaf area as a result of the single-genemutation afila affects dry matter allocation, but only accordingto its effect on the nitrogen status. Rates of net photosynthesis, PN, and dark respiration of Viciafaba plants were measured in the laboratory in clean air andin air containing up to 175 parts 10–9 (500 µg m–3)SO2. At all SO2 concentrations exceeding 35 parts 10–9,PN was inhibited compared with clean air. At light saturation, the magnitude of inhibition depended on SO2 concentration butat low irradiances the inhibition was independent of concentration.Dark respiration rates increased substantially, independentof concentration. When exposures continued for up to 3 days,PN returned to clean air values about 1 h after fumigation ceased:dark respiration recovered after one photoperiod. There wereno visible injuries. Reviewing possible mechanisms responsible for the inhibitionof PN, it is suggested that SO2 competes with CO2 for bindingsites in RuBP carboxylase. Analysis of resistance analoguesdemonstrates that SO2 altered both stomatal and internal (residual)resistances. A model of crop photosynthesis shows the implications of theobserved responses for the growth of field crops in which plantsare assumed to respond like laboratory plants. Photosynthesisof the crop would be less sensitive than that of individualplants to SO2 concentration. Daily dry matter accumulation ofhypothetical ‘polluted crops’ would be substantiallyless than clean air values but would vary relatively littlewith SO2 concentration. It is concluded that physiological basesexist to account for observed reductions in growth of plantsat very low SO2 concentrations, and that thresholds for plantresponses to SO2 require reassessment.  相似文献

Nitrate assimilation was examined in two cultivars (Banner Winterand Herz Freya) of Vicia faba L. supplied with a range of nitrateconcentrations. The distribution between root and shoot wasassessed. The cultivars showed responses to increased applied nitrateconcentration. Total plant dry weight and carbon content remainedconstant while shoot: root dry weight ratio, total plant nitrogen, total plant leaf area and specific leaf area (SLA) all increased. The proportion of total plant nitrate and nitrate reductase(NR) activity found in the shoot of both cultivars increasedwith applied nitrate concentrations as did NO3: Kjeldahl-Nratios of xylem sap. The cultivars differed in that a greaterproportion of total plant NR activity occurred in the shootof cv. Herz Freya at all applied nitrate concentrations, andits xylem sap NO3: Kjeldahl-N ratio and SLA were consistentlygreater. It is concluded that the distribution of nitrate assimilationbetween root and shoot of V. faba varies both with cultivarand with external nitrate concentration. The effects of three ranges of CO2 concentration on growth, carbon distribution and loss of carbon from the roots of maizegrown for 14 d and 28 d with shoots in constant specific activity14CO2 are described. Increasing concentrations of CO2 led toenhancement of plant growth with the relative growth rate (RGR)of the roots affected more than the RGR of the shoots. Between16% and 21% of total net fixed carbon (defined as 14C retainedin the plant plus 14C lost from the root) was lost from theroots at all CO2 concentrations at all times but the amountsof carbon lost per unit weight of plant decreased with time.Possible mechanisms to account for these observations are discussed. Determination of a Critical Nitrogen Dilution Curve for Winter Oilseed Rape   总被引:20,自引:2,他引:18
Several controlled environmental and field experiments werecarried out to define the critical nitrogen dilution curve forwinter oilseed rape, cultivar Goeland. This curve is describedby the following power equation:N=4.48 W-0.25,whereNis the totalnitrogen concentration in the shoot biomass andWthe shoot biomass. This curve has been validated over the range of shoot dry matterof 0.88 to 6.3 t ha-1. For lower shoot biomasses this equationoverestimated the critical nitrogen concentration; we proposea constant value of 4.63 (Nis expressed in reduced N, whichis a more stable N fraction in the shoot at these stages ofdevelopment). These results have been validated in several pedoclimaticconditions in France on a single variety in 1994 and 1995. Thehigher position of this curve relative to the C3species referencecurve (Greenwoodet al.,Annals of Botany67: 181–190, 1990)can be explained by the experimental conditions obtained byGreenwoodet al. (1990); therefore, all their rape data are ratherclose to the critical curve that we propose. The differencesfound between wheat and winter oilseed rape critical N dilutioncurves correspond to their respective leaf:stem dry matter ratioand the specific leaf loss phenomenon occuring in rape. Winteroilseed rape has a higher capacity of N accumulation in itsshoot than wheat for the same aerial dry matter. The proportionof nitrate in shoots rises with the nitrogen nutrition index(N.N.I.) and is more important for rapeseed than for wheat forthe same N.N.I. This difference is especially high at the beginningof flowering when the shade provided by the canopy of rapeseedflowers decreases nitrate reductase activity.Copyright 1998Annals of Botany Company Winter oilseed rape;Brassica napusL.; plant N concentration; nitrate; reduced N; shoot biomass; critical nitrogen concentration; dilution curve; N productivity.  相似文献

Atmospheric carbon dioxide (CO2) and ammonia (NH2) exchangeswere determined in the Trachypogon savannas of the Orinoco Llanosusing the energy balance approach. Total dry mass and separatedry mass values of plant parts were used for a growth analysisof the community and for measurements of nitrogen content. Duringthe growth period, the net assimilation (P40) ranged from 0.102to 0.127 MJ m–2 d–1 (6.6–7.9 g dry mass m–2d–1). These figures were similar to mean crop growth ratemeasured using the mass balance approach (2.8–6.9 g drymass m–2 d–1). Analysis of the daily trend of theCO2 assimilated by the community showed a low total energy conversionof net photosynthesis (x = 0.7) compared with the values reportedfor tropical grasses. During the dry season, the community conserved71% of the maximum N accumulated during the previous wet season.Sixty-eight per cent of the community nitrogen content was lostas volatile NH3 from the community during the reproductive period. Results suggested that the predominant net NH3 efflux from thevegetation was determined by the low concentration of NH3 inthe atmosphere ( 1.8 µg m–2) and the compensationconcentration point. However, N losses were balanced by annualnitrogen input to the community from precipitation and biologicalfixation. Thus, a redistribution rather than a loss of nitrogenseems to be occurring in the ecosystem. Carbon dioxide fluxes, ammonia fluxes, Trachypogon savannas, energy balance, growth analysis  相似文献

The development and growth of rye (Secale cereale L. cv. Rheidol)was studied in seedlings grown hydroponically in complete nutrientsolutions containing between 10 and 600 µM K+. The phyllochron(defined as the interval between the appearance of successiveleaves) was used as a developmental timescale to compare plants. The pattern of both shoot and root development was strictlyordered on a phyllochron basis and was unaffected by solutionK+ concentration, with the exception that tillers in plantsgrown at the lowest K+ concentrations were occasionally eithernot initiated or aborted at an early stage of development. However, both the rate of leaf appearance on the main stem and successivetillers and the rate of tiller appearance were slower in plantsgrown at lower K+ concentrations. The rate of leaf appearanceon the main stem was reduced to below 90% of its maximal valueat solution concentrations below about 50 µM K+. Plantrelative growth rate (RGR) was also reduced by lowering theK+ concentration of the nutrient solution and fell to below90% of its maximal value at solution concentrations below about200 µM K+. There was a complex relationship between tissueK+ concentration and the K+ concentration of the nutrient solution, which differed between leaves and root. Leaf K+ concentrationincreased steadily from about 50 µmol g-1 f. wt to about200 µmol g-1 f. wt as solution K+ concentration was increasedfrom 10 to 400 µM. In contrast, root K+ concentrationexhibited a sigmoidal dependence on solution K+ concentration, maintaining a minimal value of approximately 20 µmol g-1f. wt at concentration below 100 µM K+, then increasingprogressively to about 120 µmol g-1 f. wt at a solutionconcentration of 600 µM K+. The 'critical' leaf K+ concentration,i.e. the concentration at which either plant RGR or plant developmentwas reduced 90% of its maximal value, was 86 µmol g-1f. wt for plant RGR and 150 µmol g-1 f. wt for plant development. The 'critical' root K+ concentration was 24 µmol g-1 f.wt K+ for both RGR and development. A decline in tissue K+ concentrationbelow these thresholds reduced plant growth considerably. RootK+ concentration was a sensitive indicator of the K+ statusof the plant with respect to potential growth since plant growthdeclined abruptly as root K+ concentration approached its 'critical'value, whereas plant growth showed a less defined relationshipwith shoot K+ concentration.Copyright 1993, 1999 Academic Press Critical K+ concentration, development, potassium, relative growth rate (RGR), rye, Secale cereale L. cv.
