The effects of ultraviolet radiation on the gravitactic orientation of the freshwater flagellate,Euglena gracilis, were determined by a real time image analysis system. Both artificial UV radiation and solar radiation in a temperature-controlled growth chamber were employed. Histograms of gravitaxis showed that the degree of orientation decreased with increasing exposure time; this can be quantified using the Rayleigh test and upper quadrant summation. The effects of artificial UV radiation on the orientation are considerably stronger than those of solar radiation, probably because the radiation source emits higher fluence rates below 300 nm than found in solar radiation. The effects of monochromatic ultraviolet radiation on motility have been determined, and an action spectrum has been calculated.  相似文献

Abstract The effects of artificial and solar UV-B radiation on the gravitactic (formerly called geotactic) orientation of the freshwater dinoflagellate Peridinium gatunense were measured under artificial UV-B radiation and in a temperature-controlled growth chamber under solar radiation in Portugal. Circular histograms of gravitaxis show the impairement of orientation after UV irradiation. The degree of orientation, quantified using the Rayleigh test and top quadrant summation, decreased as the exposure time to the radiation prolonged. The effects of artifical UV-B radiation on orientation are stronger than those of solar radiation, probably because the radiation source emits higher fluence rates below 300 nm than found in solar radiation. After UV radiation, the gravitactic orientation under artificially increased acceleration at 2 g was drastically affected.  相似文献

目的:探索了解手机辐射对大肠杆菌生长与繁殖的影响。方法:用不同型号的手机以通话方式对大肠杆菌进行辐射,检测大肠杆菌培养后的茵落的大小和数量,比较实验组与对照组的差异。结果:对照组与手机辐射组茵落数量相近,经统计学分析,两组菌落数差别无显著性,但是经手机辐射后,菌落的直径大于对照组,不同型号的手机之间也有差别,且差别有显著性(P〈0.05)。结论:手机辐射对大肠杆菌生长可能有影响,但其具体机制还有待进一步的研究进行阐明。  相似文献

太阳辐射是陆地生态系统碳水循环的能量来源。太阳辐射的变化对植被吸收大气CO2具有重要影响。该文通过辐射观测数据建立散射辐射比例与晴空指数的关系, 结合生态过程模型(BEPS)和通量观测数据, 模拟分析了太阳辐射变化对千烟洲常绿针叶林总初级生产力(GPP)的影响。研究结果表明: 千烟洲森林生态系统的阴叶对年GPP总量的贡献达67%, 太阳辐射变化对阴叶光合作用的影响决定了冠层GPP的变化; 太阳辐射强度和分布的年际差异导致年GPP对太阳辐射变化的响应不同, 2003、2004和2005年太阳辐射分别变化-5.44%、-1.83%和6.26%, 可使千烟洲生态系统当年GPP总量达到最大值; 在季节上, 太阳辐射的增加会导致5-6月GPP上升, 7-9月GPP下降, 使年GPP变化程度降低; 在天尺度上, 晴空指数在0.43时, 太阳辐射变化对GPP的影响最小。  相似文献

通过室内模拟试验,研究不同强度的UV-B辐射(10μW/cm2和20μW/cm2)对报春花生理代谢的影响,结果表明:(1)增强UV-B辐射下,报春花叶片叶绿素含量降低,且随UV-B辐射时间的延长,降低程度加大;(2)随UV-B辐射强度的增加,叶片质膜透性增加;(3)叶片类黄酮含量随着UV-B辐射强度的增加而增加,在辐射至40 d时,叶片类黄酮含量达到最大值;(4)增强UV-B辐射下,报春花花瓣中花青素含量增加.  相似文献

Securin has been shown to regulate genomic stability; nevertheless, the role of securin on the cytotoxicity after radiation is still unclear. Exposure to 1–10 Gy X-ray radiation induced cell death in RKO colorectal cancer cells. The protein levels of securin, p53, and p21 were elevated by radiation. The proteins of phosphorylation of p53 at serine-15, which located on the nuclei of cancer cells, were highly induced by radiation. However, radiation increased securin proteins, which located on both of nuclei and cytoplasma in RKO cells. The p53-wild type colorectal cancer cells were more susceptible on cytotoxicity than the p53-mutant cells following exposure to radiation. Besides, the existence of securin in colorectal cancer cells induced higher apoptosis than the securin-null after radiation. Securin proteins were elevated by radiation in the p53-wild type and -mutant cells; furthermore, radiation raised the p53 protein expression in both the securin-wild type and -null cells. As a whole, these findings suggest that the existence of securin promotes apoptosis via a p53-indpendent pathway after radiation in human colorectal cancer cells.  相似文献

The peculiarities of radiation response in animals at low environmental temperatures are analyzed in the context of radiation safety of the Arctic/Northern wildlife. The paper includes a data review on radiation effects in cold environments based on international and Russian publications since 1948, which forms a supplement to the EPIC and FREDERICA data collections. In homoiothermic and heterothermic animals, imbalances in thermoregulation caused by ionizing radiation are discussed, which increase energy loss of animals, and decrease their fitness to the Arctic/Northern climate. In poikilothermic animals, both radiation damage and recovery are temperature dependant, their rates being slow in the cold environment. At low temperatures, radiation damage of biological tissues is conserved in hidden form; when the temperature of poikilothermic animal rises to a normal level, radiation injury is developed rapidly similar to acute dose response. Additionally, a mathematical model is described, demonstrating the combined effects of chronic radiation exposures and seasonal temperature variations on a fish population. Computer simulations show that at the same level of irradiation, the overall radiation damage to Arctic/Northern poikilothermic fish is higher than that to the fish from warm climate. Considering the peculiarities of radiation effects in the cold climate, the Arctic/Northern fauna might be expected to be more vulnerable to chronic radiation stress compared to temperate fauna. In the case of acute radiation exposure during winter periods, hibernation of heterothermic and cooling of poikilothermic animals may provide temporary protection from acute radiation effects.  相似文献

The study of the cytogenetic effects (for instance, the chromosome aberration frequency in G2 cells and micronucleus formation) after exposure of Chinese hamster cells to gamma-rays and secondary radiation generated by 70 GeV protons showed that the relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of secondary radiation was approximately 3. The contribution of isochromatid deletions and exchanges into the total spectrum of rearrangements induced by the secondary radiation was different from that observed on gamma-irradiation. The absence of the modifying effect of caffeine on the cells exposed to the secondary radiation indicated that RBE of the secondary radiation from 70 GeV protons was mainly associated with its inhibitory action on the cytogenetic damages repair.  相似文献

A series of experiments at several levels of relative humidity and radiation dose rates was carried out using spores of Bacillus subtilis var. niger to evaluate the effect of heat alone, radiation alone, and a combination of heat and radiation. Combined heat and radiation treatment of microorganisms yields a destruction rate greater than the additive rates of the independence agents. The synergistic mechanism shows a proportional dependency on radiation dose rate an Arrhenius dependency on temperature, and a dependency on relative humidity. Maximum synergism occurs under conditions where heat and radiation individually destroy microorganisms at approximately equal rates. This article aims at developing a new technology and instrument to explore the effect of gamma radiation on bone material. Exoelectron emission (EEE) phenomenon underlies a new electron spectroscopy to explore alteration of the electronic structurally dependence properties of bone material. The development of EEE technology for exploring the gamma radiation effects on bones is of high importance. Moreover, the influence of gamma radiation with different energies on the bone structure is discussed. It was found that the changes in EEE vary with radiation energy and radiation dose and that the response is non-linear.  相似文献

Natural radiation background is the main contributor to radiation dose delivered to plants, animals, and man. That is why its effects are of increasing interest in radiobiology, radioecology, and radiation hygiene. The following problems are discussed: migration of main natural radionuclides in biosphere, dose formation, biological role of natural radiation background on the Earth, standards for natural radiation background, and problems of natural radiation background and biosphere evolution. Previous surveys of radiation therapy among the Life Span Study (LSS) population at the Radiation Effects Research Foundation (RERF) revealed that 1,670 (1.4%) of the LSS participants received radiation treatments before 1984. The data on therapeutic radiation doses are indispensable for studying the relationship between radiation treatments and subsequent cancer occurrences. In this study, the radiation treatments were reproduced experimentally to determine the scattered radiation doses. The experiments were conducted using a female human phantom and various radiation sources, including a medium-voltage X-ray machine and a (60)Co gamma-ray source. Doses were measured using thermoluminescence dosimetry and ionization chambers. Radiation doses were determined for the salivary glands, thyroid gland, breast, lung, stomach, colon, ovary and active bone marrow. The results have been used for documenting the organ doses received by patients in previous surveys. The contribution of therapeutic irradiation to the occurrence of chromosome aberrations was studied using data on doses to active bone marrow from both radiation treatments and atomic bomb exposures in 26 RERF Adult Health Study participants. The results suggest that radiation treatments contributed to a large part of their frequencies of stable-type chromosome aberrations. The therapeutic radiation doses determined in the present study are available for investigating the effects of therapeutic irradiation on the subsequent primary cancers among atomic bomb survivors who received radiation treatments.  相似文献

用短波紫外线(UV-C)照射处理日本三角涡虫,观察了涡虫的损伤状况,探讨了紫外线辐射对涡虫乳酸脱氢酶(LDH)、Na -K -ATP酶、Ca2 -Mg2 -ATP酶、超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、过氧化氢酶(CAT)和谷胱甘肽过氧比物酶(GSH-PX)活力的影响。结果表明,短波紫外线辐射对涡虫的损伤明显,照射的时间越长,涡虫在照射后出现死亡解体现象的时间就越短。随着紫外线照射时间的延长,LDH活力呈下降趋势;Na -K -ATP酶活力呈上升趋势而Ca2 -Mg2 -ATP酶活力呈下降趋势;SOD活力有明显的增加;CAT活力有增加趋势;GSH-PX活力波动较大,但总体仍呈增加趋势。不论是从紫外线对日本三角涡虫的损伤情况、还是对其六种酶活力的影响来看,日本三角涡虫是一种对紫外线辐射非常敏感的动物,在检测紫外线辐射及筛选抗紫外线辐射防护剂等方面具有潜在价值和应用前景。  相似文献

Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr. cv. Hardee] and wheat (Triticum aestivum L. cv. Jori) were grown from seed under four ultraviolet-B irradiances and four levels of photosynthetically active radiation in a factorial design. The effects of ultraviolet-B radiation on leaf number and area, total dry matter production, dry weight of component organs, and plant height were compared between soybean and wheat. Ultraviolet-B radiation effects were dependent upon the level of photosynthetically active radiation incident during growth. Wheat and soybeans were both affected by low ultraviolet-B radiation flux densities; however, they differed markedly in their growth responses and biomass allocation patterns. Substantial interactions between ultraviolet-B and photosynthetically active radiation indicate a need for the measurement of longer wavelength radiation when evaluating the effects of ultraviolet-B radiation on plant growth in natural conditions.  相似文献

Solar UV-B radiation inhibits the growth of Antarctic terrestrial fungi   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
We tested the effects of solar radiation, and UV-B in particular, on the growth of Antarctic terrestrial fungi. The growth responses to solar radiation of five fungi, Geomyces pannorum, Phoma herbarum, Pythium sp., Verticillium sp., and Mortierella parvispora, each isolated from Antarctic terrestrial habitats, were examined on an agar medium in the natural Antarctic environment. A 3-h exposure to solar radiation of >287 nm reduced the hyphal extension rates of all species relative to controls kept in the dark. Pythium sp. cultures exposed to solar radiation for 1.5 h on five consecutive days were most sensitive to radiation of >287 nm, but radiation of >313 nm also inhibited growth to a lesser extent. Radiation of >400 nm had no effect on hyphal growth relative to controls kept in the dark. Short-wave solar UV-B radiation of between 287 and 305 nm inhibited the growth of Pythium sp. hyphae on and below the surface of the agar medium after 24 h, but radiation of > or =345 nm only reduced the growth of surface hyphae. Similar detrimental effects of UV-B on surface and, to a lesser extent, submerged hyphae of all five fungi were shown in the laboratory by using artificial UV-B from fluorescent lamps. A comparison of growth responses to solar radiation and temperature showed that the species that were most resistant to UV radiation grew fastest at higher temperatures. These data suggest that solar UV-B reduces the growth of fungi on the soil surface in the Antarctic terrestrial environment.  相似文献
