The morphology and fine structure of the female reproductive system of allassogonoporid trematode Allassogonoporus amphoraeformis have been described for the first time. The ovary consists of the germ cells being at various developmental stages and supporting cells of two types. The oviduct, seminal receptacle with its short duct and the proximal portion of Laurer's canal are lined by flattened cellular epithelium with lamellae and cilia on its luminal surface and well-developed basal infoldings. The distal part of Laurer's canal and metraterm are tegumental in structure and are characterized by sparse secretory inclusions and lacking of spines. Mehlis' glands of two types open into ootype. The uterus wall is composed of highly flattened epithelial cells surrounded by basal lamina and sparse muscle bundles. Vitelline lobules consist only of the vitelline cells at various developmental stages. The mature vitelline cells contain two types of inclusions: vitelline droplets and rarely scattered lipids. Vitelline ducts are lined by cellular epithelium with highly folded luminal surface and devoid of cilia. Presented results are compared with earlier obtained data on other lecithodendrioiden trematode Prosthodendrium ascidia ([symbol: see text], 1990).  相似文献

Several components of the female reproductive system of Pharyngostomoides procyonis, including the vitellaria and vitelline duct, ovary and oviduct, Laurer's canal, and Mehlis' gland and associated ducts, were observed with the electron microscope. Vitelline follicles contain cells in various stages of development. Mature vitelline cells contain membrane-delimited clusters of vitelline globules near the plasma membrane. Cilia are present in the vitelline duct. The ovary contains germ cells in various stages of maturation. Oogonia are found in the peripheral region. Mature oocytes contain numerous dense bodies near the plasmalemma. Also included in the cytoplasm of mature oocytes are "nucleolus-like bodies," myelin-like bodies, and mitochondria containing dense granules and few cristae. The epithelium of the oviduct is ciliated. Sperm are present in the oviduct and in Laurer's canal. Two types of secretory cells found in Mehlis' gland are described.  相似文献

Anatomy and ultrastructure of the female and male reproductive system inAcarus siro L. were investigated by light and electron microscopy. The female system consists of paired ovaries of nutrimentary type in which oogonia and oocytes are connected by bridges with a large central cell. The oviducts empty into the uterus, which passes into preoviporal duct lined bycuticle, and opening as a longitudinal slit (oviporus). An elongated accessory gland composed of one type of secretory cell is located along each oviduct. The copulatory opening occurs at the posterior margin of the body and leads, via the inseminatory canal, to the receptaculum seminis, consisting of the basal and saccular part. Both inseminatory canal and basal part of receptaculum seminis are lined by cuticle, whereas the wall of the sac is formed by cells covered only by long, numerous microvilli. The basal part of the receptaculum seminis joins the ovaries via two lumenless transitory cones.The male reproductive system contains paired testes, in which spermatogonia tightly surround the central cell. The proximal part of the paired vasa deferentia serves as a sperm reservoir, while the distal one has a glandular character. An unpaired, cuticle-lined ejaculatory duct opens into the apex of the aedeagus. The single accessory gland is located asymmetrically at the level of, or slightly posterior to, coxae IV.The structure of the genital papillae, which are topographically related to the genital opening in both sexes, is also briefly described.  相似文献

The receptaculum seminis, opening into the female genital tract, is found only in the metastriate ixodid ticks. An endospermatophore that has been inserted into the female genital aperture at copulation is first stored in the receptaculum seminis, where spermiogenesis is completed before the sperm ascend the oviducts. The receptaculum seminis consists of a simple cuticularized epithelium. Epithelial cells in sexually matured females develop during feeding and become active in secretion. Secretions discharged from epithelial cells are released into the lumen of this organ through the cuticle and may act on the wall of the inserted endospermatophore. The fact that resumption of spermiogenesis (spermateleosis) has already occurred before destruction of the endospermatophore just after copulation suggests that secretions from epithelial cells of the receptaculum seminis are not the trigger of spermateleosis, but a destructive agent of the endospermatophore wall. The female systems of Eudrilid earthworms in which internal fertilization seems probable are reviewed and the advantage conferred on the earthworms with these specializations is discussed. A new genus and species of Pareudrilinae is described from Ghana. The genus is characterized mainly by the presence of two unpaired, mid-dorsal oesophageal glands, one in segment vii and the other in segment viii. In addition, the posterior region of the oesophagus is dilated and specialized in segments xiii–xv. A hitherto undescribed system of afferent and efferent ducts is reported joining the receptaculum seminis with the spermathecal atrium and with the oviduct and its function is examined.  相似文献

Certain phosphatases have been localized by histochemical techniques in various tissues of a pigeon cestode, Raillietina (Raillietina) johri. Acid phosphatase (AcPase), alkaline phosphatase (AlPase) and adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) were present in almost all structures: tegument; subtegumental muscles; subtegumental cells; excretory canal; testes; sperm ductules; vas deferens; cirrus sac; cirrus; ovary; receptaculum seminis; vagina; vitelline gland cells; oocytes; uterus; embryonated eggs. AlPase was absent in parenchyma, spermatocytes, spermatids and spermatozoa. AlPase activity was more intense in the tegument of mature gravid proglottides. AcPase and ATPase were visualized in various stages of spermatogenesis of the parasite. ATPase activity was also observed in chromosomes. 5'-nucleotidase (AMPase) activity was restricted to embryonated eggs only. Functional significance of these phosphatases is discussed.  相似文献

The components of the female reproductive system of Diphyllobothrium latum, including ovary, ovicapt, oviduct, vitelline ducts, vitelline reservoir, vagina, seminal receptacle, ootype with unicellular Mehlis's gland, ootype-uterine duct and uterus were observed with the electron microscope. The epithelium of the female reproductive system ducts consists of a nucleate syncytial layer. Structural differences in apical surface of the ducts, the number of nuclei and organoids in syncytial layer as well as the number of underlaid muscles were revealed. The regional differentiations of the uterus wall were registered. The middle and distal region of uterus was covered with microtriches. The filamentous microtriches were observed in apical surface of vagina. The epithelium of seminal receptacle and distal region of uterus were underlaided by the powerful muscle layers. The fertilization canal was revealed. It was shown that the formation of egg shells implemented by the deposit of vitelline globules in their surface in the ootype-uterine duct. Structural and functional differences of different parts of female apparatus in various groups of cestodes are conditioned by species biology.  相似文献

Two new species of bucephalids (Digenea: Bucephalidae) were found parasitizing freshwater fishes of Argentina. Prosorhynchoides cambapuntaensis sp. n. from Salminus maxillosus (Characidae) is characterised by the tegument covered with two kinds of spines, scale-like spines anteriorly and fine spines posteriorly; uterine loops reaching the vitelline arch in the pre-oral region; and the Laurer's canal short, opening dorsally immediately posterior to the ovary. Rhipidocotyle santanaensis sp. n. from Acestrorhynchus pantaneiro (Acestrorhynchidae) is characterised by the rhynchus with two lateral projections; the testes arranged in tandem or slightly diagonal; and the vitelline follicles forming an arch in the pre-oral region.  相似文献

The general morphology of the internal genital organs in Myobia murismusculi females have been studied by means of light and electron microscopy. It is shown, that their reproductive system is composed of the single ovary, long complex oviduct, cuticular vagina and receptaculum seminis. The apical region of the ovary is formed by the numerous processes of gonadian somatic cells. These cells generate the ovarian sheath and probably take place in oocyte's metabolism. Any nutritive cells in the Myobia ovary are absent. The vitellogenetic oocytes develop in the ovarian pouches like in other trombidiform mites. The oviduct consists of three parts, each of them has a specific ultrastructure and type of secretory product. Two proximal parts of the oviduct produce the egg-shell components, while the third distal part never contains oocytes. It could be suggested that this part produces a special secret onto the oocyte surface to glue the oocytes to the hairs of host.  相似文献

Countercurrent transfer is thought to be one of the most important mechanisms involved in the transfer of substances between the uterus and oviduct. The present study was aimed at recognizing other putative transportation pathways from the uterine cavity through the oviduct onto the surface of and into internal ovarian structures. Microspheres (latex beads, 0.8 m in diameter) were introduced into the uterine horn cavity of pigs, for 30 min, at various days of the estrous cycle. The transportation pathways of the beads were then analyzed by light and electron microscopy. The transport of microspheres through the oviduct canal into ovarian tissues took place on each day of the estrous cycle. The largest numbers of microspheres passed through the tunica albuginea to the corpora lutea. Some of microspheres also reached the surface of the uterine ligament through the oviduct canal, where they attained the lumen of blood and lymphatic vessels, mainly of the vascular subovarian (VSP) and paraovarian lymphatic plexus (PLP), via the lymphatic stomata pathway. Transport of microspheres also took place simultaneously through the uterine and oviduct walls and from particular organs through blood and lymphatic vessels. Although the present results do not exclude the participation of countercurrent transfer between venous, lymphatic, and arterial vessels, they provide morphological evidence for the presence of direct transportation pathways of substances, released into the uterine lumen, into ovarian tissues through the oviduct canal.  相似文献

Release of spermatozoa from the receptaculum seminis of Schistocerca vaga was studied by means of electrical and mechanical stimulation. Electrical stimulation of the receptaculum nerve, or the ductus aperture nerve, leads to release of spermatozoa from the receptaculum seminis, provided the spermathecal innervation is intact. Mechanical stimulation of the ductus aperture in the genital chamber also leads to sperm release, provided the neural loop, ductus aperture/terminal abdominal ganglion/receptaculum seminis, has not been interrupted at any point. Ten somata in the terminal abdominal ganglion, including 6 dorsal unpaired medial (DUM) neurons, innervate the receptaculum seminis; some of these somata may be neurosecretory. Approximately 80 presumed sensory axons run from the ductus aperture to the same ganglion. On the basis of these neuroanatomical data and the results of electrical and mechanical stimulation, a schema of how the release mechanisms operate in S. vaga is proposed.  相似文献

Summary The wall of the receptaculum seminis of Thermobia domestica is composed of numerous glandular units, each with four enveloping cells (denoted 1 to 4) separated by ordinary epithelial cells and associated with a cuticular apparatus. During the moulting periods, which continue to occur in the adult stage, these cells undergo a series of transformations. Just before apolysis there is a dedifferentiation of numerous cytoplasmic organelles, but no mitosis has been observed. When the intima lifts off, the apical system of each glandular unit, i.e. the distal parts of the C2 and C3 cells surrounding the end apparatus, is also eliminated. Then at the apex of each glandular unit, a new ductule is formed in the cavity of which a long ciliary process grows up from cell C1. Finally comes the phase of cuticle formation, i.e., epicuticle for the ductules, epi-and endocuticle for the intima lining the central cavity of the receptaculum. Various cell types participate in secretion of cuticle, the ciliary cells (C1) being responsible for the formation of the porous end apparatus. At ecdysis almost all of the new intima has been secreted and the apical systems are once more differentiated. These transformations are compared with those recently described in other exocrine glands of arthropods, e.g., tegumentary glands and accessory glands of the genital ducts.  相似文献

This article is the first ultrastructural study on the annual oviducal cycle in a snake. The ultrastructure of the oviduct was studied in 21 females of the viviparous natricine snake Seminatrix pygaea. Specimens were collected and sacrificed in March, May, June, July, and October from one locale in South Carolina during 1998-1999. The sample included individuals: 1) in an inactive reproductive condition, 2) mated but prior to ovulation, and 3) from early and late periods of gravidity. The oviduct possesses four distinct regions from cranial to caudal: the anterior infundibulum, the posterior infundibulum containing sperm storage tubules (SSTs), the uterus, and the vagina. The epithelium is simple throughout the oviduct and invaginations of the lining form tubular glands in all regions except the anterior infundibulum and the posterior vagina. The tubular glands are not alveolar, as reported in some other snakes, and simply represent a continuation of the oviducal lining with no additional specializations. The anterior infundibulum and vagina show the least amount of variation in relation to season or reproductive condition. In these regions, the epithelium is irregular, varying from squamous to columnar, and cells with elongate cilia alternate with secretory cells. The secretory product of the infundibulum consists largely of lipids, whereas a glycoprotein predominates in the vagina; however, both products are found in these regions and elsewhere in the oviduct. In the SST area and the anterior vagina, tubular glands are compound as well as simple. The epithelium of the SST is most active after mating, and glycoprotein vacuoles and lipid droplets are equally abundant. When present, sperm form tangled masses in the oviducal lumen and glands of the SST area. The glands of the uterus are always simple. During sperm migration, a carrier matrix composed of sloughed epithelial cells, a glycoprotein colloid, lipids, and membranous structures surround sperm in the posterior uterus. During gravidity, tubular glands, cilia, and secretory products diminish with increasing development of the fetus, and numerous capillaries abut the basal lamina of the attenuated epithelial lining of the uterus.  相似文献

An estrogen-dependent polypeptide (CUPED), which was purified from uterine flushings of estrogen-treated cats, was localized in endometrial epithelial cells of cats using the peroxidase-antiperoxidase immunocytochemical staining procedure. Epithelial cells from animals treated with estradiol for 4, 7, or 14 days and estrogen-primed animals treated with progesterone for 2 days showed positive immunostaining. Staining was absent in untreated ovariectomized animals and in estrogen-primed animals treated with progesterone for 4 days. Specific cytoplasmic staining was confined to apical secretory granules in nonciliated cells of deep uterine glands. Staining was also commonly observed in the lumen of deep glands. Immunostaining was absent in the cells of the surface epithelium, stroma, and myometrium. In addition, other organs such as the oviduct, kidney, liver, pancreas, and lung showed no evidence of specific immunocytochemical staining. Therefore, the estrogen-dependent polypeptide obtained from uterine flushings of estrogen-treated ovariectomized cats is a uterine-specific secretory product that is packaged in apical cytoplasmic granules of uterine epithelial gland cells before being released into the uterine lumen.  相似文献

The annual oviductal cycle of the American alligator, Alligator mississippiensis, is described using light and electron microscopy. Previous work done by Palmer and Guillette ([ 1992 ] Biol Reprod 46:39–47) shed some light on the reproductive morphology of the female alligator oviduct; however, their study was limited and did not report details relating to variation across the reproductive season. We recognize six variable regions of the oviduct: infundibulum, tube, isthmus, anterior uterus, posterior uterus, and vagina. Each area shows variation, to some degree, in the histochemistry and ultrastructure of oviductal secretions. Peak secretory activity occurs during the months of May and June, with the greatest variation occurring in the tube and anterior uterus. During the month of May, high densities of neutral carbohydrates and proteins are found within the tubal and anterior uterine glands. The epithelium of the entire oviduct secretes neutral carbohydrates throughout the year, but many regions lack protein secretions, and the posterior uterine glands show little secretory activity of any type throughout the year. After oviposition, secretory activity decreases drastically, andthe oviduct resembles that of the premating season. This study also provides evidence to support the homology between alligator and bird oviducts. This work provides an account of the systematics and phylogeny of Hypselodoris . Aspects of the morphology of 42 species are described and the systematic status of an additional 11 species is discussed. Twelve new species are described: Hypselodoris alboterminata, H. bertschi, H. bollandi, H. fucata, H. iacula, H. insulana, H. krakatoa, H. paulinae, H. reidi, H. rudmani, H. violabranchia and H. zephyra. A phylogenetic analysis supports the monophyly of Hypselodoris and Risbecia . Two distinct clades of Hypselodoris are present. One contains species from the Atlantic and eastern Pacific while the other contains species limited to the Indo-Pacific tropics and adjacent temperate regions. Species from the Atlantic and eastern Pacific are bluish in body colour and have a plesiomorphically large receptaculum seminis while Indo-Pacific taxa are variably coloured and all have a minute receptaculum seminis. The distribution and size of mantle glands provides a wealth of morphological characters. With few exceptions, mantle glands vary in closely related species and are important for distinguishing members of smaller clades. Mantle gland distribution is therefore useful in identifying preserved material that is difficult to identify to species in the absence of the pigment of living specimens. Similar colour patterns found in sympatric species of Hypselodoris appear to be a result of both common descent and convergence between less closely related lineages. Biogeographic distributions of sister taxa provide several examples of vicariance. Examination of these cases shows that no single vicariant pattern is present, but vicariance appears to occur at the margins of the Indo-Pacific rather than centrally. Some vicariance occurs even within archipelagos such as the Hawaiian Islands. These cases largely refute the generality of the hypothesis of Springer (1982), that Pacific Plate and Australasian Plate endemic sister taxa should predominate.  相似文献

Nucleotide triphosphate hydrolase (NTPase, EC 3.6.1.4) is present in the vitelline membrane of the avian egg and increases strikingly, both in total and in specific activity, within a few minutes after ovulation. Protein material found within the lumen of the first part of the oviduct is also high in NTPase activity. Hydrolytic activity toward other phosphate-bearing substrates is minor in the case of both vitelline membrane and oviductal lumen material. Oviductal lumen NTPase is very similar to vitelline membrane NTPase in pH dependency, solubility characteristics, substrate specificities, and electrophoretic mobility. Furthermore, oviductal lumen material has no activating effect on preovulatory vitelline membrane NTPase. It is concluded that the source of vitelline membrane NTPase is material (probably secretory in nature) present in the first part of the oviduct.  相似文献

Spermiogenesis and sperm ultrastructure of adult Cyathocephalus truncatus, a member of presumably basal group of "true" cestodes (Eucestoda), have been examined for the first time by using transmission electron microscopy. The process of sperm formation corresponds in basic pattern to that of the Pseudophyllidea. In addition, the 2 pairs of electron-dense attachment zones are present in median cytoplasmic process of C. truncatus. However, mature spermatozoa of C. truncatus differ significantly from those of the pseudophyllideans, especially in the morphology of the proximal and distal spermatozoon extremities. The proximal extremity of the mature spermatozoon lacks a crested body, which is present in more derived cestodes and some pseudophyllideans. The distal end of the mature spermatozoa exhibits different morphology in the gametes from testes and those from receptaculum seminis. New for the Eucestoda is a finding that a lateral cytoplasmic extension creates the distal end of the spermatozoa from testes, resembling sperm of some Monogenea and Digenea. In contrast, the distal extremity of the spermatozoa from receptaculum seminis contains only a nucleus. Despite the above-mentioned peculiarities, the ultrastructural data on sperm/spermiogenesis suggest close relationships of the Spathebothriidea and Pseudophyllidea.  相似文献

Zeylanurotrema spearei sp.n. is described from the urinary bladder of the introduced cane toad, Bufo marinus , from North Queensland, Australia. The other species in Zeylanurotrema, Z.lyriocephali , has been recorded only from an agamid lizard from Sri Lanka. The new species has differently arranged gut caeca, vitelline follicles and ovary as compared with Z. lyriocephali. Z. spearei has a Laurer's canal that does not open to the exterior but which forms a glandular Juel's organ. We suggest that Z. spearei is an Australian species that has been acquired by the cane toad from a native host. In juvenile specimens of Z. spearei a persistent microcercous tail is present. From this and the anatomy of the adult we conclude that Zeylanurotrema is a brachylaimid rather than a urotrcmatid as originally proposed. A new subfamily, the Zeylanurotrematinae, is proposed to accommodate Zeylanurotrema .  相似文献

Ultrastructural investigations of the female genital system of Epiperipatus biolleyi (Bouvier 1902) (Onychophora, Peripatidae). — Acta Zoologica (Stockholm) 80: 339–349. The female genital system of the neotropical peripatid Epiperipatus biolleyi was examined using transmission and scanning electron microscopy. Special attention is given to the two accessory organs of the paired oviducts: the receptacula seminis and the ovarian funnels (Ovarialtrichter). The latter occur only in the Peripatidae, whereas receptacula seminis may also be present in the Peripatopsidae, the only other family in the Onychophora. The ovarian funnels of E. biolleyi are thin-walled and closed from the haemocoel. This trait has also been reported from Epiperipatus trinidadensis, Macroperipatus torquatus, and Eoperipatus weldoni, whereas other peripatids have ovarian funnels which have been reported to open into the haemocoel. The occurrence of artificially opened ovarian funnels, caused by tissue rupture during specimen preparation, is discussed. The presence of spermatozoa both in the receptaculum seminis and in parts of the uterus of the female examined in this study supports the hypothesis that in E. biolleyi insemination of juvenile females occurs directly via the genital opening. The female contained one unstalked cleavage embryo in each uterus horn. Two features of the uterus were found to be unique to E. biolleyi: (1) a second cell layer overlying the uterine epithelium with a pronounced secretory activity (2) embryos are enclosed in a noncellular coat interspersed with numerous transport vesicles.  相似文献
