Twenty-four male internals(locus of control) and 24 externals were instructed to increase finger temperature under one of three conditions:(1) contingent feedback(CF),(2) yoked sham feedback(YF), or(3) no feedback(NF). Five 13-min training sessions were given. Feedback was then removed and subjects tested for voluntary temperature control. Finally, the cold pressor test, a laboratory analogue of natural cold stress, was administered under no-feedback conditions. Results demonstrated voluntary control of peripheral temperature following contingent feedback training, but not after yoked feedback temperature training. Contrary to expectation, the acquisition of voluntary control did not attenuate the stress response to thermal pain. Differences between internals and externals throughout the study were generally insignificant.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to examine the relative effectiveness of electromyographic biofeedback training(EMG BFT), remeditation, and progressive muscle relaxation(PMR) in eliciting a relaxation or trophotropic response as measured by frontalis muscle tension, heart rate, electrodermal response, respiration rate, and skin temperature. Fifty-four college students were randomly assigned to one of five groups:(1) control,(2) placebo control,(3) EMG BFT,(4) meditation,(5) PMR. After baseline measures were obtained subjects were trained in 10 30-minute training sessions and posttested. Comparisons by ANOVAs indicated there was a significant decrease in muscle tension in the EMG BFT and meditation groups and significant decreases in respiration rate in the meditation and PMR groups. No other changes were attributed to treatment.  相似文献

Mutations at the period (per) locus (1:1.3; 3B1-2) in Drosophila melanogaster lengthen (perL), shorten (per5), or abolish (per°) overt circadian rhythmi-city. Deuterium oxide lengthens the free-running circadian period. We tested the effects of deuterium on three mutants of the per gene (per5 perL, and per°) and wild-type Drosophila melanogaster (per+) to assess interactions. With increasing concentrations of deuterium, the free-running circadian period of locomotor activity rhythms increased. The dose-response was linear in all genotypes tested. With increasing dosages ofdeuterium, circadian rhythms became weaker as evidenced by the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Genotype and deuterium changed circadian period length independently and additively, showing no interaction. SNRs for all genotypes converged on a low level as deuterium concentration increased. Deuterium increased life span, except at high concentrations (40 and 50%).  相似文献

Synopsis The incidence of diurnal predation (0800–1600h) on schools of several hundred thousand adult flat-iron herring,Harengula thrissina, was quantified. Nine species of piscine predators perpetrated 653 attacks and 158 captures during 42.5 h of observation. Four predators: cabrilla,Mycteroperca rosacea, cornetfish,Fistularia commersonii, green jack,Caranx caballus, and black skipjack,Euthynnus lineatus, were responsible for 92% of the attacks and 96% of the successes. Among these predators attack rates (attacks × time–1) and success rates (successes × attacks–1) varied with respect to time of day, although all predators were active throughout the day. As a consequence, the herring school experienced fairly homogeneous attack and success rates. These rates were estimated as roughly half the crepuscular attack rates but they were sustained over a much longer period. Piscivorous predators, particularly those species frequently found in association with schooling prey, may be focusing their attacks on opportunities, not specific times of day and/or light levels. More direct information needs to be gathered on diurnal as well as crepuscular attack and success rates in order to assess the impact that piscine predators have on schooling prey.  相似文献

The root holoparasitic angiosperm sunflower broomrape (Orobanche cumana) specifically affects sunflower (Helianthus annuus) growth and causes severe damage all over the world. This investigation was designed to examine the protective effects of salicylic acid (SA) treatment to the seeds of an O. cumana‐susceptible cultivar of sunflower (TK0409). Sunflower seeds were pretreated with different concentrations (0, 0.5 and 1 mM) of SA and inoculated with O. cumana for 4 weeks. O. cumana infection resulted in reduction in plant biomass, endogenous SA level, and the expression of SA‐related genes including pal, chs and NPR1. By contrast, O. cumana infection enhanced the production of reactive oxygen species, activities of antioxidant enzymes as well as contents of phenolics and lignin. Seed treatment with 1 mM SA increased sunflower biomass in terms of plant height, fresh weight and dry weight by 10%, 13% and 26%, respectively, via reducing the number and biomass of established O. cumana. The increase of hydrogen peroxide contents by 14% in the 1 mM SA treated sunflower plants appeared to be because of the inhibition of ascorbate peroxidase and catalase by exogenous SA. The enhanced expression of pathogenesis‐related genes (PR3 and PR12, encoding chitinase and defensin, respectively) after 4 weeks of inoculation indicated that systemic acquired resistance was induced in the SA treated sunflower in which the level of endogenous SA was also elevated in a dose‐dependent manner. The increased expression of a hypersensitive‐responsive (HR) gene hsr indicated that the resistance of sunflowers might be associated with a hypersensitive reaction which was activated by exogenous SA treatment.  相似文献

Within the framework of a large-scale screening carried out on 146 yeasts of environmental origin, 16 strains (11% of the total) exhibited the ability to biotransform (4S)-(+)-carvone. Such positive yeasts, belonging to 14 species of 6 genera (Candida, Cryptococcus, Hanseniaspora, Kluyveromyces, Pichia and Saccharomyces), were thus used under different physiological state (growing, resting and lyophilised cells). Yields (expressed as% of biotransformation) varied from 0.14 to 30.04%, in dependence of both the strain and the physiological state of the cells. Products obtained from reduction of (4S)-(+)-carvone were 1S,4S- and 1R,4S-dihydrocarvone, (1S,2S,4S)-, (1S,2R,4S)- and (1R,2S,4S)-dihydrocarveol. Only traces of (1R,2R,4S)-dihydrocarveol were observed in a few strains. As far as the stereoselectivity of the biocatalysis, with the sole exception of a few strains, the use of yeasts determined the prevalent accumulation of 1S,4S-isomers [(1S,4S)-dihydrocarvone + (1S,2S,4S)-dihydrocarveol + (1S,2R,4S)-dihydrocarveol].The addition of glucose (acting as auxiliary substrate for cofactor-recycling system) to lyophilised yeast cells determined a considerable increase of biocatalytic activity: in particular, two strains showed a surprising increase of the% of biotransformation of (4S)-(+)-carvone (to values >98%).  相似文献

The density (fresh weight/volume) of the detached thalli of four sargassacean species (Myagropsis myagroides, Sargassum horneri, S. patens, S. siliquastrum) was measured weekly to determine their floating period. Thalli of the four species were collected with respect to the difference in their reproductive stage, and their floating abilities at different stages were determined. Floating thallus was ballasted with pre-weighed leads until the final addition of a weight caused sinking. The density and floating period of sargassacean thalli were dependent on the species and the specimens’ reproductive stage. The floating period of thalli detached before maturation was estimated to be between 4 and 14 weeks. However, thalli detached during maturation had a floating period of between 1 and 8 weeks, and those detached after maturation sank within 2 weeks. Sargassum horneri had the lowest density and the longest floating period among the four species investigated and this may explain the high abundance of S. horneri in floating seaweeds observed in the Sea of Japan.  相似文献

Abstract

The synthesis of monomers ( S )-1, ( R )-1 and 2 derived from (5′ S )-, (5′ R )-2′-deoxythymidine-5′-C-phosphonic acids and 2′,5′-dideoxythymidine-5′-C-phosphonic acids was elaborated. The protection of the 5′-hydroxyl by the methoxycarbonyl group was a key step of the synthesis. Prepared monomers were used for the solid-phase assembly of several types oligothymidylate 15-mers ( S )-3, ( S )-4, ( S )-5, ( R )-4 and ( R )-5 containing the chiral 3′-O-P-CH(OH)-5″ internucleotide linkage. Their hybridization properties with dA15 and rA15 were studied as well as their resistance against nuclease cleavage.  相似文献

 The objective of this study was to detect the presence of alien chromatin in intergeneric hybrids of durum wheat (Triticum turgidum, 2n=4x=28; AABB genomes) with the perennial grass Thinopyrum junceiforme (2n=4x=28; J1J1J2J2) using RAPD markers. The first step was to identify amplification of species-specific DNA markers in the parental grass species and durum wheat cultivars. Initially, the genomic DNA of five grass species (Thinopyrum junceiforme, Th. bessarabicum, Lophopyrum elongatum, Leymus karataviensis and Elytrigia pycnantha) and selected durum cultivars (‘Langdon’, ‘Durox’, ‘Lloyd’, ‘Monroe’, and ‘Medora’) was screened with 40 oligonucleotide primers (nano-mers). Three oligonucleotides that amplified DNA fragments specific to a grass species or to a durum cultivar were identified. Primer PR21 amplified DNA fragments specific to each of the five durum cultivars, and primers PR22 and PR23 amplified fragments specific to each of the grass species. Intergeneric hybrids between the durum cultivars ‘Langdon’, ‘Lloyd’ and ‘Durox’ and Th. junceiforme, and their backcross (BC) progeny were screened with all 40 primers. Six primers amplified parent-specific DNA fragments in the F1 hybrids and their BC1 progeny. Three primers, PR22, PR23 and PR41, that amplified Th. junceiforme DNA fragments in both F1 and BC1 were further analyzed. The presence of an amplified 1.7-kb Th. junceiforme DNA fragment in the F1 hybrids and BC1 progeny was confirmed using Southern analysis by hybridization with both Th. junceiforme genomic DNA and Th. junceiforme DNA amplified with primer PR41. With the exception of line BC1F2 no. 5, five selfed progeny of BC1 and a BC2 of line 3 (BC1F2 no. 3בLloyd’) from a cross of ‘Lloyd’×Th. junceiforme showed the presence of the 1.7-kb DNA fragment. All selfed BC1 and BC2 lines retained the 600-bp fragment that was confirmed after hybridization with Th. junceiforme DNA amplified with primer PR22. Other experiments using RFLP markers also showed the presence of up to seven Th. junceiforme DNA fragments in the F1 hybrids and their BC progeny after hybridization with Th. junceiforme DNA amplified with primer PR41. These studies show the usefulness of molecular markers in detecting alien chromatin/DNA fragments in intergeneric hybrids with durum wheat. Success or failure of EEG feedback training for alpha enhancement can depend on how alpha activity is quantified and fed back. Alpha-enhancement failures usually employ a percent time(%) technique; successes typically use amplitude integration(). To dramatize the differences between percent and integration techniques, we derived both measures simultaneously from left occipital(O 1 ) and left central(C 3 ) sites for 16 male subjects who were given 5.6 hours of integrated alpha feedback from the midline occipital(Oz ) site. At both the O 1 and C 3 sites the integrated and percent measures were not equivalent and not linearly related. Statistically significant differences in the(integrated, percent) correlation coefficients(z-transformed) were observed under the different recording conditions: alpha enhancement, alpha enhancement, alpha suppression, and baselines. 通过ITS序列对21种中国外来苋属植物进行系统进化关系研究。通过ITS序列种间、种内遗传距离分析,发现苋属种间变异为0~0.055 1,种内变异为0~0.009 2。使用TAXON DNA软件分析ITS序列种间、种内变异的分布图看出规律,结果表明苋属ITS序列的种间变异适中,种间变异明显大于种内变异。采用最大似然法(ML)构建的系统树将中国苋属分为5或6个进化支(根据自展支持率取值不同)。异株苋亚属长芒苋和苋亚属刺苋聚类在一起,西部苋和糙果苋单独成为一个进化支。苋亚属中苋组苋亚组反枝苋和绿穗苋亚组鲍氏苋有着更近的亲缘关系,苋组苋亚组尾穗苋和绿穗苋亚组绿穗苋、繁穗苋等亲缘关系更近。白苋亚属分为2或3个类群,根据自展支持率取值不同,合被苋可以和白苋、北美苋并为一支,也可以单独成为一支。综上所述,该文认为苋属经典分类体系中3亚属或2~3组的分类地位不成立,建议中国苋属采取5组2亚组或6组2亚组的分类体系。5组2亚组分别由长芒苋组、糙果苋组、苋组(苋亚组和绿穗苋亚组)、白苋组和凹头苋组组成。其中,合被苋也可从白苋组分出,单独构成1组,形成6组2亚组的分类体系。表明该序列对苋属大部分种类分类效果较好,对西部苋和糙果苋复合群,绿穗苋复合群以及白苋亚属的分类价值不高。  相似文献

A new series of substituted 2(1H)-pyridones (4a–i) and their glucosides (5, 6a–e) were prepared as potential agents against leukemia (HL-60) cells. Glucosides (5,6a–e) were synthesized using three independent methods. Microwave protocol as an ecologically new method was used to synthesize the target compounds. Structures of the new products were confirmed using one- and two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy. In vitro exposure of pyridones substituted at position 4 with a 2-thienyl or 2-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl were found to exhibit high antiproliferation activities; in particular, 3-cyano-4-(thien-2′-yl)-6-(4″-chlorophenyl)-2(1H)-pyridone (4c) and its glucoside analogue (6c) had the highest activity.  相似文献

The development of thermophysiological responses during four consecutive exercise/rest sessions in the cold was studied in men wearing chemical protective clothing and a face mask. Six men repeated four exercise/rest sessions during 8 h at –10°C. Each session consisted of step exercise (240 W · m−2) for 60 min and rest for another 60 min. Rectal and skin temperatures were measured continuously and thermal sensations were obtained at 30-min intervals. Entering the cold from a warm environment and the onset of exercise resulted in a decrease in skin temperatures during the first session and the decrement in the temperatures of the extremities continued for 10–20 min during the following period of exercise. Torso skin temperature was at its lowest during the first rest period. After the first session of cold exposure the range and the level of variation in mean body temperature ( b) followed a pattern which was repeated until the end of the experiment. However, the torso skin temperatures increased gradually until the fourth session, while the temperatures of the extremities, in contrast, tended to decrease up to the third session. In conclusion, the present results indicated that although b, reflecting the whole body heat balance, showed a typical pattern of change after the first session (2 h), the torso area was warming until the end of the cold exposure while the extremities continued to cool down up to the third session (6 h), obviously due to a prolonged redistribution of the circulation. Microspore embryogenesis (ME) is a process in which the gametophytic pollen programme of the microspore is reorientated towards a new embryo sporophytic programme. This process requires a stress treatment, usually performed in the anther or isolated microspores for several days. Despite the universal use of stress to induce ME, very few studies have addressed the physiological processes that occur in the anther during this step. To further understand the processes triggered by stress treatment, we followed the response of anthers by measuring the expression of stress-related genes in two barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) cultivars differing in their ME response. Genes encoding enzymes involved in oxidative stress (glutathione-S-transferase, GST; oxalate oxidase, OxO), in the synthesis of jasmonic acid (13-lipoxygenase, Lox; allene oxide cyclase, AOC; allene oxide synthase, AOS) and in the phenylpropanoid pathway (phenylalanine ammonia lyase, PAL), as well as those encoding PR proteins (Barwin, chitinase 2b, Chit 2b; glucanase, Gluc; basic pathogenesis-related protein 1, PR1; pathogenesis-related protein 10, PR10) were up-regulated in whole anthers upon stress treatment, indicating that anther perceives stress and reacts by triggering general plant defence mechanisms. In particular, both OxO and Chit 2b genes are good markers of anther reactivity owing to their high level of induction during the stress treatment. The effect of copper sulphate appeared to limit the expression of defence-related genes, which may be correlated with its positive effect on the yield of microspore embryos.  相似文献

To control defense and cell‐death signaling, plants contain an abundance of pathogen recognition receptors such as leucine‐rich repeat (LRR) proteins. Here we show that pepper (Capsicum annuum) LRR1 interacts with the pepper pathogenesis‐related (PR) protein 4b, PR4b, in yeast and in planta. PR4b is synthesized in the endoplasmic reticulum, interacts with LRR1 in the plasma membrane, and is secreted to the apoplast via the plasma membrane. Binding of PR4b to LRR1 requires the chitin‐binding domain of PR4b. Purified PR4b protein inhibits spore germination and mycelial growth of plant fungal pathogens. Transient expression of PR4b triggers hypersensitive cell death. This cell death is compromised by co‐expression of LRR1 as a negative regulator in Nicotiana benthamiana leaves. LRR1/PR4b silencing in pepper and PR4b over‐expression in Arabidopsis thaliana demonstrated that LRR1 and PR4b are necessary for defense responses to Pseudomonas syringae pv. tomato and Hyaloperonospora arabidopsidis (Hpa) infection. The mutant of the PR4b Arabidopsis ortholog, pr4, showed enhanced susceptibility to Hpa infection. Together, our results suggest that PR4b functions as a positive modulator of plant cell death and defense responses. However, the activity of PR4b is suppressed by interaction with LRR1.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to compare the effects of 2 different rest period lengths during a resistance training session with the number of repetitions completed per set of each exercise, the volume completed over 3 sets of each exercise, and the total volume during a training session. Fourteen experienced, weight-trained men volunteered to participate in the study. All subjects completed 2 experimental training sessions. Both sessions consisted of 3 sets of 8 repetitions with an 8 repetition maximum resistance of 6 upper body exercises performed in a set manner (wide grip lat pull-down, close grip pull-down, machine seated row, barbell row lying on a bench, dumbbell seated arm curl, and machine seated arm curl). The 2 experimental sessions differed only in the length of the rest period between sets and exercises: 1 session with a 1-minute and the other with a 3-minute rest period. For all exercises, results demonstrate a significantly lower total number of repetitions for all 3 sets of an exercise when 1-minute rest periods were used (p < or = 0.05). The 3- and 1-minute protocols both resulted in a significant decrease from set 1 to set 3 in 4 of the 6 exercises (p < or = 0.05), whereas the 1-minute protocol also demonstrated a significant decrease from set 1 to set 2 in 2 of the 6 exercises (p < or = 0.05). The results indicate that, during a resistance training session composed of all upper body exercises, 1-minute rest periods result in a decrease in the total number of repetitions performed compared with 3-minute rest periods between sets and exercises.  相似文献

Lipoxygenases (LOXs) constitute a family of lipid-peroxidizing enzymes that catalyze the oxidation of unsaturated fatty acid containing a (1Z,4Z)-pentadiene structural unit, leading to formation of conjugated (Z,E)-hydroperoxydienoic acid. LOXs are known to be widely distributed in plants and animals. Recently, several microbial LOXs were reported to be involved in the production of hydroperoxy fatty acids. Among the microorganisms that produce hydroxy fatty acids, Pseudomonas aeruginosa PR3 is known to convert linoleic acid to trihydroxy fatty acid, which suggests the involvement of a LOX enzyme. Based on these reports, we identified a novel thermostable LOX from P. aeruginosa PR3 strain. The protein was purified 34.3-fold with a recovery rate of 5.14%. The Km and Vmax values of the purified enzyme were 3.57 mM and 0.73 μmol/min//mg, respectively. Heat stability of the purified enzyme was unexpectedly high with an LD50 of 90 min at 80°C, although P. aeruginosa PR3 is known as a mesophilic bacterium. Substrate specificity of the purified enzyme was restricted only to unsaturated fatty acids carrying a (1Z,4Z)-pentadiene unit.  相似文献

Moths possess an extremely sensitive and diverse sex pheromone processing system, in which pheromone receptors (PRs) are essential to ensure communication between mating partners. Functional properties of some PRs are conserved among species, which is important for reproduction. However, functional differentiation has occurred in some homologous PR genes, which may drive species divergence. Here, using genome analysis, 17 PR genes were identified from Spodoptera frugiperda, S. exigua, and S. litura, which belong to 6 homologous groups (odorant receptor [OR]6, 11, 13, 16, 56, and 62); of which 6 PR genes (OR6, OR11, OR13, OR16, OR56, and OR62) were identified in S. frugiperda and S. exigua, and 5 PR genes were identified in S. litura, excluding OR62. Using heterologous expression in Xenopus oocytes, we characterized the functions of PR orthologs including OR6, OR56, and OR62, which have not been clarified in previous studies. OR6 orthologs were specifically tuned to (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate (Z9,E12-14:OAc), and OR62 orthologs were robustly tuned to Z7-12:OAc in S. frugiperda and S. exigua. The optimal ligand for OR56 was Z7-12:OAc in S. frugiperda, but responses were minimal in S. exigua and S. litura. In addition, SfruOR6 was male antennae-specific, whereas SfruOR56 and SfruOR62 were male antennae-biased. Our study further clarified the functional properties of PRs in 3 Spodoptera moth species, providing a comprehensive understanding of the mechanisms of intraspecific communication and interspecific isolation in Spodoptera.  相似文献
