Stigmas in 24 species of 11 genera, classified in three groups, Caesalpinia, Peltophorum and Dimorphandra, of the tribe Caesalpinieae have been examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. All are of the WN (wet, non-papillate) form. The receptive stigmatic surface comprises a crater, generally at the apex of the style, which in fresh flowers is full of clear fluid. The crater rim may be fringed with non-receptive hairs, and its shape and depth are variable between species. Extreme forms are found in Caesalpinia sappan where crater hairs are short and the crater funnel-shaped and very deep, and C. vesicaria and Delonix regia where crater hairs are long and the crater appears very shallow.  相似文献

Caesalpinia crista seed extracts were investigated in the laboratory against Helicoverpa armigera (Hubner). The extracts exhibited powerful antifeedant and growth disruption activity. The toxic symptoms of the poisoned larvae included reduction in weight gain and mortality of larvae and pupae, larval-pupal intermediates and malformed adults. Maximum anti-feedance is caused by methanol extract (AI50=0.0186%), followed by hexane extract (0.0212%), ethyl acetate extract (0.0416%), butanol extract (0.0767%) and aqueous extract (0.2199%). The larval mortality ranged from 10.00 to 70.00% in different extracts. The 50% larval growth inhibition recorded at 3DAT was statistically at par by methanol and hexane extract. The percent 150 values for inhibiting normal adult emergence were 0.0287, 0.0325, 0.0485, 0.0977 and 0.0547% for methanol, hexane, ethyl acetate, aqueous and butanol extract. The biosafety evaluation of these extracts carried out against the predator, Coccinella septumpunctata showed no mortality of the adults till nine days after treatment. Though the observation taken at 10 DAT, showed slight mortality of adults by methanol extract at both 5.0 and 1.0% concentration.  相似文献

Antioxidant fractions from two different citrus species such as Rio Red (Citrus paradise Macf.) and Sour orange (Citrus aurantium L.) were extracted with five different polar solvents using Soxhlet type extractor. The total phenolic content of the extracts was determined by Folin-Ciocalteu method. Ethyl acetate extract of Rio Red and Sour orange was found to contain maximum phenolics. The dried fractions were screened for their antioxidant activity potential using in vitro model systems such as 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), phosphomolybdenum method and nitroblue tetrazolium (NBT) reduction at different concentrations. The methanol:water (80:20) fraction of Rio Red showed the highest radical scavenging activity 42.5%, 77.8% and 92.1% at 250, 500 and 1000 ppm, respectively, while methanol:water (80:20) fraction of Sour orange showed the lowest radical scavenging activity at all the tested concentrations. All citrus fractions showed good antioxidant capacity by the formation of phosphomolybdenum complex at 200 ppm. In addition, superoxide radical scavenging activity was assayed using non-enzymatic (NADH/phenaxine methosulfate) superoxide generating system. All the extracts showed variable superoxide radical scavenging activity. Moreover, methanol:water (80:20) extract of Rio Red and methanol extract of Sour orange exhibited marked reducing power in potassium ferricyanide reduction method. The data obtained using above in vitro models clearly establish the antioxidant potential of citrus fruit extracts. However, comprehensive studies need to be conducted to ascertain the in vivo bioavailability, safety and efficacy of such extracts in experimental animals. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on antioxidant activity of different polar extracts from Rio Red and Sour oranges.  相似文献

Larvicidal activity of acetone and petroleum ether extracts of four plants Murraya koenigii, Coriandrum sativum, Ferula asafoetida, Trigonella foenum graceum and synthetic larvicides Fenthion and Temephos used alone and in combination was carried out against A. aegypti larvae under laboratory conditions. Optimum values were found out by using different concentrations of each plant (ranged 25 ppm-900 ppm) and both synthetic larvicides (ranged 0.01-7.5 ppm). The synergistic study was carried out by using 0.05 ppm of Temephos and Fenthion with 25ppm of M. koenigii, F. asafetida, T. foenum graceum and 100 ppm of C. sativum. All the plants showed potential synergistic activity although showed comparatively poor larvicidal activity when tested individually.  相似文献

Summary To compare chemical methods for determining total contents of Cu and Zn in Egyptian soils, surface samples of two groups of soils from Egypt namely the alluvial and the calcareous were chosen. The samples were analyzed for the total Cu and Zn using three chemical methods namely, aqua regia, hydrofluoric acid and fusion methods. The mean values of total Cu determined by aqua regia, hydrofluoric acid and fusion methods were 58.7, 69.2, 69.4 ppm for the alluvial soils and 11.8, 13.0, 12.8 ppm for the calcareous soils respectively. The corresponding values of Zn were 138.6, 189.4, 189.8 ppm for the alluvial soils and 58.6, 89.7, 90.3 ppm for the calcareous soils. The Cu and Zn contents in the alluvial and calcareous soils, determined by the aqua regia method was lower as compared with those determined by the fusion or hydrofluoric methods. An attempt was made to use the etching of soil with aqua regia and the linear relationship, to quantitavely evaluate the total content of Cu and Zn determined with hydrofluoric acid or fusion methods.  相似文献

Efficacy of two tropical plant extracts for the control of mosquitoes   总被引:10,自引:0,他引:10
The larvicidal activity of seed and leaf extracts of Calophyllum inophyllum and leaf extract of Rhinacanthus nasutus on the juveniles of Culex quinquefasciatus , Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti was determined. Ethyl acetate (EA) soluble fractions of C. inophyllum and petroleum ether (PE) fraction of R. nasutus extracts showed very high larvicidal activity. Irrespective of the species of the mosquitoes tested, at concentrations ranging from 3.91 to 9.39 ppm, 9.04 to 35.49 ppm and 13.21 to 28.92 ppm of the active fractions of seed and leaf extracts of C. inophyllum and the leaf extract of R. nasutus , respectively, killed 50% of the treated larvae. The fractions also interfered with adult emergence. Exposure of the mosquitoes at any stage of their larval development to less than 0.86, 5.49 and 6.81 ppm of the active fractions of seed and leaf extracts of C. inophyllum and the leaf extract of R. nasutus , respectively, inhibited 50% of the treated larvae from emerging as adults. Experiments under laboratory and semi-field conditions showed that the activity of the extracts persisted for up to 10 days.  相似文献

Secondary metabolites obtained from the indigenous plants with proven mosquito control potential can be used as an alternative to synthetic insecticides under the integrated vector control. The essential oil extract from the forest redgum, Eucalyptus tereticornis Sm. (Myrtaceae) was tested against mature and immature mosquito vector Anopheles stephensi Liston (Diptera) under laboratory condition. The extract showed strong larvicidal, pupicidal and adulticidal activity. The leaf oil extracts showed high bioactivity at high doses. Results obtained from the laboratory experiment showed that the leaf extracts suppressed the pupal and adult activity of Anopheles stephensi at higher doses. In general, first and second instar larvae were more susceptible to all treatments. Clear dose -response relationships were established with the highest dose of 160ppm plant extract evoking almost 100% mortality. The results obtained suggest that, in addition to their medicinal activities, E. tereticornis can also serve as a natural mosquitocide.  相似文献

The acaricidal (miticidal) activity of 90% ethanolic extracts of leaves and stem bark of Swietenia mahogani and Swietenia macrophylla were tested against Varroa destructor mite. Four concentrations were used over two different time intervals under laboratory and field conditions. In general, it was noticed that the acaricidal effect based on mortality and LC(50) of all tested extracts against the Varroa mite was concentration and time dependant. The acaricidal action against Varroa mites was relatively the least for the S. macrophylla stem bark extract at 500 ppm concentration after 48 h while it reached 100% and 95% in case of S. mahogani bark and S. macrophylla leaves, respectively. The% infestation with Varroa in colonies treated with the different extracts at various time intervals showed that the rate of infestation decreased to 0.0% after 12 days from the beginning of treatments with 500 ppm of S. mahogani leaves extract compared to 0.79% decrease after treatment with Mitac, a reference drug (60 mg/colony). The rate of infestation in case of treatments with S. mahogani bark, S. macrophylla leaves and S. macrophylla bark was decreased to 0.11%, 2.41% and 1.08%, respectively. The highest reduction was observed with S. mahogani leaves extract followed by S. mahogani bark. All the tested extracts showed less or no effect on honey bees at the different concentrations and at different bioassay times. This study suggested that the use of natural plant extracts or their products as ecofriendly biodegradable agents could be of high value for the control of Varroa mite.  相似文献

Leaf extracts of the walnut, Juglans regia L., were evaluated under laboratory conditions to determine their acaricidal activity on the mites Tetranychus cinnabarinus (Boisduval) and Tetranychus viennensis Zacher (Acari: Tetranychidae). Extracts had both contact and systemic toxicity to these mites. The four solvents tested for preparing crude extracts were petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, and methanol. Methanol was the most efficient solvent, with an extraction rate from 17.06 + 0.80 to 20.27 +/- 0.28%. Petroleum ether was the least effective solvent, with extraction rates from 2.30 +/- 0.13 to 2.71 +/- 0.13%. However, the crude extracts with petroleum ether resulted in the highest mite mortality (79.04 +/- 0.52%) in a slide dip bioassay. Mites mortalities from the concentrated extracts prepared by chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, or distilled water were significantly lower than petroleum ether. The mean lethal concentrations (LC50) of the extracts from petroleum ether, chloroform, ethyl acetate, methanol, and distilled water to the two mite species were 0.73 +/- 0.04, 1.66 +/- 0.28, 4.96 +/- 0.35, 7.45 +/- 0.67, and 9.91 +/- 0.32 mg/ml, respectively. After liquid chromatography and thin-layer chromatography, the concentrated extracts of petroleum ether were separated into eight fractions and tested for acaricidal activity. Fraction 6 produced significantly higher mite mortality rates than the other groups, killing approximately 90% of both species.  相似文献

Phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity from red grape marc extracts   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
The aims of this work were to determine the amounts of the different classes of phenolic compounds in an ethanolic extract from red grape marc and its components, peels and seeds, and to evaluate their antioxidant activities by the beta-carotene bleaching test for their utilization as natural antioxidants. The results showed that red grape marc was rich in polyphenol compounds with a clear antioxidant activity. The extracts, in fact, at very low concentration (20 ppm) in total phenols showed an antioxidant activity (AA) higher than 43% on average, while at higher concentration (80-160 ppm) all the fractions had an AA comparable to that of butlylated-hydroxytoluene. Grape seeds seemed to give the highest contribution to such AA, as they contained high quantities of proanthocyanidines, a type of flavonoid known for its high antioxidant properties.  相似文献

From the aerial parts of Maytenus disticha, we have isolated 9beta-benzoyloxy-1alpha,2alpha,6beta,8alpha,15penta-acetoxy-dihydro-beta-agarofuran (1) and from seeds of Maytenus boaria 9beta-furoyloxy-1alpha,6beta,8alpha-triacetoxy-dihydro-beta-agarofuran (2). These compounds and their MeOH and hexane/ethyl acetate (1:1 v/v) extracts were evaluated for their effects on the fall armyworm (Spodoptera frugiperda). Toosendanin, a commercial insecticide derived from Melia azedarach was used as a positive control. When tested for activity using neonate larvae in a nochoice artificial diet bioassays, the agarofurans 1, 2 and toosendanin as well as the MeOH and hexane/EtOAc extracts caused significant growth inhibitory effects with GC50 of 7.55; 3.84; 1.75; 14.0 and 7.3 ppm at 7 days, respectively. Compounds 1 and 2 caused 100% larval mortality at 25 and 15 ppm, respectively. MeOH and hexane/EtOAc extracts caused 100% larval mortality at 25.0 ppm, respectively, they also increased the development time of surviving larvae and a significant delay for the time of pupation and adult emergence. These compounds showed comparable potency of activity with toosendanin. Acute toxicity against adults of S. frugiperda was also found, for hexane/EtOAc extract and 2 had the most potent activity with LD50 value of 4.7 and 1.9 ppm, respectively. MeOH extract, hexane/EtOAc extract, 1 and 2 caused acetylcholinesterase inhibition with 78.0, 89.2, 79.3 and 100% inhibition at 15.0 ppm, respectively. Therefore, the furoyloxy agarofuran may be responsible for the insecticidal activity of these plants.  相似文献

Repellency of six materials, two plant essential oil (clove and flax seed oils), two plant extracts (neem and harmal seed extracts) and two inorganic salts (silica dust and tri-calcium phosphate), to Sitophilus granarius L. were evaluated. Per cent repellency (PR) was determined for each material. Repellent effects of tested materials were proportional to concentration and higher concentration has stronger effect. Neem and flax seed oils had the strongest repellence effect (100%) after 2, 4 and 6?h of treatment at concentrations of 20, 10 and 5?mL/kg grains. Repellency activity of both oils was gradually decreased with the passage of time to reach its lowest level after 12?h of treatment. Their repellency tended to class IV or stronger during the whole exposure period. Neem and harmal seed extracts had maximum repellency (98.7 and 86.5%, respectively) at highest concentration (1000?ppm), while the lowest concentration (250?ppm) had minimum repellency effects (62.9 and 71.6%, respectively). Both extracts showed potent repellent activity against the pest and repellency values ranged between class IV and class V. The repellency action of silica dust and tri-calcium phosphate followed nearly the same trend as shown in case of oil and extracts. High repellent activities of silica dust and tri-calcium phosphate (87.3 and 97.4%, respectively) were observed at concentration of 5?g/kg, whereas the lowest mean of repellency (56.4 and 41.0%) was recorded at concentration of 1.29?g/kg. Thus, both salts exhibited high repellency activity against the weevil and repellency values ranged between class III and class IV.  相似文献

Litsea salicifolia is one of the many plants used as phytopesticide, traditionally by various tribes of Assam. Of the five extracts of L. salicifolia tested for the bioactivity against Aedes aegypti and Culex quinquefasciatus, the aqueous extract was more effective compared to other extracts exhibiting bioactivity at 72 ppm against A. aegypti. The hexane extract (2000 ppm) exhibited 70% repellent activity for 3 hr against A. aegypti and 46% activity for 3 hr against C. quinquefasciatus. This is the first report on the insecticidal properties of L. salicifolia which can be further developed as an eco-friendly biopesticides of the future.  相似文献

Aromatic edible root of D. hamiltonii was subjected to the extraction of the antioxidant rich fraction. Different parts of root namely whole tuber, peel, tuber without peel and medullary portion were extracted with dichloromethane (European Patent No. W02005063272). The extract was found to contain flavor compound 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (2H4MB), which was identified by TLC and GC. Medullary portion was found to be rich in 2H4MB, (73.73 mg g(-1) dry tissue) followed by peel, containing 68.34 mg g(-1) 2H4MB. Different concentration of dichloromethane extracts were subjected for antioxidant assay by DPPH (1,1 dihydroxy 2-picryl hydrazyl) method, this has shown 44, 46.7% radical scavenging activity in case of medullary, peel extracts and 67.3% in case of pure 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde at 100 ppm concentration, whereas ascorbic acid used as standard showed 94.3% activity. In beta-carotene linoleate model system (b-CLAMS) 43.46 and 45.7% antioxidant activity was observed in medullary and peel extracts at 100 ppm concentrations respectively, whereas standard 2-hydroxy-4-methoxybenzaldehyde exhibited 69.64% at 100 ppm and BHA (butylated hydroxyl anisole) 90.1% activity also at 100-ppm level. Similarly hydroxyl radical scavenging activity was found to be 48.36, 46.86, 48.26 and 73.60% in whole tuber, medullary, peel and standard 2-hydroxy-4-methoxy benzaldehyde respectively at 100 ppm levels. This is the first report on the antioxidant activity of D. hamiltonii. Results have shown that 2H4MB is one of the major constituents responsible for antioxidant activity. Hence the extract of D. hamiltonii can be utilized for the production of antioxidant rich fractions required for various health benefits.  相似文献

The present study was designed to explore the mechanism of action of walnut (the seed of Juglans regia) leaf and ridge on hepatic glucose metabolism in diabetic mice. Experimental diabetes was induced by intravenous administration of streptozotocin (60 mg/kg)and confirmed with an increase of blood glucose, 90–100% of the control, 72 hours later. Isolated extracts from walnut leaf and ridges were administered in a single effective dose of 400 mg/kg orally. Firstly, blood glucose was determined every 1 hour until 5 hours post administration of extracts. In the second experiment, the liver was surgically removed, 2 hours post treatment of diabetic animals with extracts, homogenized and used for measurement of key enzymes of glycogenolysis (glycogen phosphorylase, GP) and gluconeogenesis (phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase, PEPCK). Treatment by both leaf and ridge extracts decreased blood glucose and liver PEPCK activity and increased blood insulin and liver GP activity. It is concluded that walnut is able to lower blood glucose through inhibition of hepatic gluconeogenesis and secretion of pancreatic insulin.  相似文献

This study explored the insecticidal effects of Thai botanical, senescent leaf Jatropha gossypifolia extracts on second instar Spodoptera exigua larvae by the dipping method and topical sprayer method. The leaf crude extract was extracted using Soxhlet apparatus with ethyl acetate as solvent. The leaf crude extracts showed insecticidal activity with a LC50 of 6182 ppm at 24 hours after treatment. In addition, this research was observed its toxicity to worm parasitoid, Meteorus pulchricornis by contact method. The result shows 60 percent mortality of this parasitoid species at dose up to 40,000 ppm. Thus, Jatropha gossypifolia leaf crude extracts can be as alternative IPM control tool for Spodoptera exigua which friendly to benefit insect such as Meteorus pulchricornis.  相似文献

The direct-acting mutagens in diesel particulate extracts were identified. It is concluded that the major mutagens are in all probability 1,6- and 1,8-dinitropyrene (DNP). 1-Nitropyrene (NP) and 3-nitrofluoranthene (NF) were also present. The DNP isomers contributed 43% of the total mutagenic activity of the crude extracts, whereas 1-NP (or 3-NF) was responsible for less than 10% of the activity. The quantities of 1,6- and 1,8-DNP were 1.2 and 3.4 ppm of the crude extracts, respectively, and the induction of both DNPs in the diesel particulate matter corresponded to about 1.7-4.8% by weight of the 1-NP content (70.5 ppm in the crude extracts).  相似文献

Crude methanolic extracts made from the twigs of 39 plant samples from six species of Trichilia collected in Costa Rica, were incorporated into artificial diet and fed to neonate Spodoptera litura larvae. All six plant species tested significantly reduced larval growth after 7 and 10 days. The most active species was T. americana, reducing growth, on average, to 3.9% of control at 1000ppm fresh weight. The least active, on average, was T. glabra. A twig extract of T. americana proved to be more active than wood, bark or leaf extracts, with the twig extract reducing growth of S. litura larvae by 50% (EC(50)) at a dietary concentration of 17.2ppm. When T. americana wood extract was incorporated into artificial diet (10, 25, 50 and 75ppm) and fed to S. litura larvae throughout larval development, growth was slowed and the final weight of pupae and adults was reduced. At higher extract concentrations (50 and 75ppm) larvae entered one or two supernumerary instars before pupation occurred. This was shown to be due to both starvation and to post-ingestive activity of the extract.  相似文献

The larvicidal activity of ethanolic leaf extracts from two Artemisia species, Artemisia campestris var. glutinosa and A. molinieri, on mosquito Culex pipiens Linnaeus (Diptera, Culicidae) larvae was investigated. Since A. molinieri is a rare and protected species confined to temporary ponds of Southern France, its toxic activity may help to value this species and to finance its conservation. A. molinieri extracts showed a higher larvicidal activity (from 50 ppm (K=9.488, DDL=4, P<0.001)) than those from A. campestris var glutinosa (from 500 ppm (K=9.488, DDL=4, P<0.01)) after 48 h of exposure. Calculated lethal concentrations, after 48 h of exposure, (LC(50)) were low, 9091 and 9898 ppm for A. molinieri and A. campestris var. glutinosa extracts, respectively, but using a non-pollutant solvent (ethanol). However, A. molinieri may be valued as an environmentally friendly biocide and developing its culture may be of interest for both pesticide activity and conservation purpose.  相似文献
