This paper presents the details and logic of two Fortran computer programs. The program, BRACKET, is designed to evaluate the constant relationship among teeth and orthodontic brackets to which an arch wire is adapted. The program, WIRE, is used to initially fit brackets to teeth using the constants derived in BRACKETS, based upon a series of orthogonal transformations. Subsequently, an orthodontic arch wire is fitted through the brackets, and the results are displayed using computer graphics.It is anticipated that the system would be useful in the orthodontic clinical setting as an aid in arch wire formation. The graphics produce a template which incorporates essential points to consider in arch wire formation, namely, perimeter length, lateral widths, symmetry, and appropriate arch form for the patient.  相似文献

Previous studies of the tooth and dental arch dimensions in twins have suggested that the size and form of the dentition is more under genetic control than the size and form of the dental arch. A study of dentition and dental arch was carried out on three sets of same-sex triplets, two sets being monozygotic and one set dizygotic. No significant differences were found in the dental arch dimensions in any set of the triplets. The tooth dimensions showed no significant differenes in the monozygotic triplet sets or in the monozygotic pair from the dizygotic triplet set, but showed significant differences between the monozygotic pair and the third member of the dizygotic set. This confirms the data obtained from twin studies.  相似文献

对金丝猴牙齿与体重间关系的研究结果表明,在雄性中,无论是线性还是面积与颅长之间的相关关系均较雌性的更为紧密。而且,随着体重的增加,雄性牙齿的近中远中长(M/D)也比雌性的增长较快。在上、下颌中,上颌牙齿与颅长的关系表现出更强的相联性。与其他灵长类相比较,金丝猴在取食和咀嚼过程中主要利用颊齿;大的个体具有大的犬齿及一定比例的臼齿面积和齿弓(牙合)面面积;上齿弓(牙合)面面积大于下齿弓(牙合)面面积。也就是说上齿弓提供了比下齿弓更大的咀嚼面积。金丝猴牙齿与体重间的关系位于猴类和人猿类之间,更接近于大猩猩(Gorilla)、疣猴(Colobus)和猕猴。  相似文献

The survey of a French male population allowed us to ascertain 75 propositi with one or two missing ULI, 59 propositi with one or two reduced ULI and 99 controls on whom measurements (mesiodistal and buccolingual diameters) of all teeth of the superior arch are available. Principal Component Analysis gave a first estimated principal component highly correlated with each of the dental measurements or arch measurements. This size factor was eliminated by observing the plane of the second and third principal components. Strikingly different clusters of MD diameters or BL diameters were observed for the controls, the propositi missing one or two of the ULI and the propositi with reduced ULI. For the controls, the arch length is correlated with the MD molar diameters and the MD incisor diameter, the arch width being isolated from the other measurements. For the propositi with missing ULI, among the dental measurements the MD and BL diameters cluster, the arch length is isolated as are the arch widths. For the propositi with reduced ULI, the arch length is closer to the dental measurements while the widths, especially the first one, are isolated. The best discriminant measurements are the diameters of the first premolars and the canine, the first arch width and the arch length. Among controls, the arch is narrowed and shorter for the propositi with absence and wider for the propositi with reduction. Teeth measurements are always smaller in propositi.  相似文献

The arch of the human foot is unique among hominins as it is compliant at ground contact but sufficiently stiff to enable push-off. These behaviours are partly facilitated by the ligamentous plantar fascia whose role is central to two mechanisms. The ideal windlass mechanism assumes that the plantar fascia has a nearly constant length to directly couple toe dorsiflexion with a change in arch shape. However, the plantar fascia also stretches and then shortens throughout gait as the arch-spring stores and releases elastic energy. We aimed to understand how the extensible plantar fascia could behave as an ideal windlass when it has been shown to strain throughout gait, potentially compromising the one-to-one coupling between toe arc length and arch length. We measured foot bone motion and plantar fascia elongation using high-speed X-ray during running. We discovered that toe plantarflexion delays plantar fascia stretching at foot strike, which probably modifies the distribution of the load through other arch tissues. Through a pure windlass effect in propulsion, a quasi-isometric plantar fascia''s shortening is delayed to later in stance. The plantar fascia then shortens concurrently to the windlass mechanism, likely enhancing arch recoil at push-off.  相似文献

Multivariate statistical analysis, based upon a number of dimensions, showed significant contrasts in dental arch form between four primate groups, which was difficult to identify from subjective visual inspection. Furthermore, analysis of dental arch size was shown to differ from dental arch shape, although whether this reflected predominantly genetic or environmental factors, requires further research.  相似文献

Allometric equations relating the lengths and widths of the mandible and dental arch, and of molar area, were obtained in a wide range of anthropoid primates grouped into four subsets, pongids, cercopithecids, nonmarmoset platyrrhines, and marmosets. Mandibular width is negatively allometric against length across anthropoids but cercopithecids had relatively wider mandibles than nonmarmosets of the same size class. Mandibular length relative to dental arch length was isometric within and between the four groups but dental arch width scaled negatively against all the other dimensions examined in this study, indicating a functional dissociation between the dental arcade and the bony mandible. Molar area showed various scaling patterns relative to mandibular length (isometry) and width (positive). There were no parameters that scaled positively against body weight across groups, except for molar area in cercopithecids (strongly) and nonmarmoset (moderately). Notable functional specializations include relatively long dental arches in cercopithecoids, related to large, elongate bilophodont molars, and the tendency to increase relative jaw length across the range of anthropoid sizes, reflecting negative allometry of the brain (cranial bicondylar width). We caution that various allometry and functional patterns may be masked by generalizing from broad taxonomic comparison involving a large sweep of adaptative patterns.  相似文献

We present a robust and computationally inexpensive method to estimate the lengths and three-dimensional moment arms for a large number of musculotendon actuators of the human lower limb. Using a musculoskeletal model of the lower extremity, a set of values was established for the length of each musculotendon actuator for different lower limb generalized coordinates (joint angles). A multidimensional spline function was then used to fit these data. Muscle moment arms were obtained by differentiating the musculotendon length spline function with respect to the generalized coordinate of interest. This new method was then compared to a previously used polynomial regression method. Compared to the polynomial regression method, the multidimensional spline method produced lower errors for estimating musculotendon lengths and moment arms throughout the whole generalized coordinate workspace. The fitting accuracy was also less affected by the number of dependent degrees of freedom and by the amount of experimental data available. The spline method only required information on musculotendon lengths to estimate both musculotendon lengths and moment arms, thus relaxing data input requirements, whereas the polynomial regression requires different equations to be used for both musculotendon lengths and moment arms. Finally, we used the spline method in conjunction with an electromyography driven musculoskeletal model to estimate muscle forces under different contractile conditions, which showed that the method is suitable for the integration into large scale neuromusculoskeletal models.  相似文献

Dental casts of 99 Kurdish and 98 Yemenite Jewish children evenly distributed between the sexes, aged 12 years, were measured for mesio-distal and buccolingual tooth dimensions, and arch depth and width. Dental dimensions showed significant differences between the two groups in certain permanent teeth in mesiodistal length, while in the buccolingual diameter the differences did not reach statistical significance. Dental arch form in Kurdish children was more rounded due to significantly bigger arch width, while arch depth was not significantly different from Yemenites. Intragroup sex differences were found in both groups with reference to arch dimensions, while in the dental parameters they were more strongly expressed in Kurdish children.  相似文献

An older patient reporting to the dental surgery for his/her dental treatment is becoming a common occurrence. Improved oral hygiene has meant that teeth are retained for a longer time, along with the potential problems of attrition, decreased vertical dimension, temporomandibular joint discomfort/strain, and poor aesthetics. The case in question is that of a 65-year-old male patient who had severe attrition in the lower arch, temporomandibular joint pain and reduced vertical dimension. The maxillary arch had previously been restored with a fixed partial prosthesis. For restoration of the lower teeth, a removable cast titanium overlay denture was fabricated incorporating an increased vertical dimension. Porcelain facings were placed to restore the aesthetics of the anterior teeth. The titanium was cast in a semi-automatic electric arc, pressure type casting machine. A titanium overlay denture with porcelain facing on the anterior teeth may provide a means of restoring a patient's concerns regarding aesthetics and function.  相似文献

Patterns of geographic microdifferentiation for dental occlusion and the size and shape of the dental arches are described for 14 villages on Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea. Occlusal variables, such as overjet, overbite, molar relationships, crowding or spacing, and malalignment vary less among villages than do arch length and width. Arch length and width decrease in size from north to south. The pattern of biological distance among villages for occlusal variables and arch size correspond poorly to anthropometric, linguistic, geographic and migrational distances. The value of occlusal variables and arch size for discriminating among populations, the biological interpretation of multivariate data and the objectives of research on geographic microdifferentiation are discussed.  相似文献

The association between nasal shape, prognathism and the shape of the maxillary dental arch has been examined within samples of Negro and European skulls. Prognathism tends to be accompanied by an increasingly broad and short nose. Particularly high correlations exist between nasal height and the length of the cranial base and between nasal breadth and the distance which separates the upper canine teeth. Regression analysis has yielded quantitative estimates of the effect on a given dimension of variation in one or more of the others. It seems probable that both nasal shape and the maxillary dental arch-prognathism complex may be subject to direct selection by environmental stress. The morphological association between these complexes suggests that a part of the interpopulation variation in prognathism may be a secondary effect of selection acting on the nose. Similarly, selection acting on the dental arch or maxilla could produce secondary changes in the nasal index (i.e. a non-adaptive component of nasal variation).  相似文献

The purposes of this study were to estimate the heritabilities of several human dental arch dimensions and compare the hereditary differences among kinships and among variables. The sample consisted of 102 Japanese families, each including both parents and one of their offspring, and on average all subjects had relatively well-aligned permanent dentitions. The heritabilities of all variables were estimated from the regression of offspring on parent and on midparent. Results showed that genetics played a role regarding dental arch dimensions, and arch perimeter (sum of tooth width) was a more definite genetic-related factor than other arch dimensions, such as width, length, or size. There were few significant hereditary differences between sons and daughters, and between upper and lower arches for each variable. Sex chromosomal involvement was not confirmed, but maternal effects were found to be more evident in daughters than in sons, for both arches. Comparisons among the heritabilities of overall and of anterior arch dimensions indicated that size of the anterior part of the dental arch might be less resistant to environmental factors, especially in case of the lower arch.  相似文献

Detailed oro-maxillofacial studies using dental casts, pantomograms and cephalograms were performed in 28 patients with Turner's syndrome and compared statistically to the results from 23 normal short children. Small tooth crown size, short tooth roots and advanced dental age were characteristic of patients with Turner's syndrome. However, the incidence of peg shaped teeth, malocclusion, high arched palate and congenital anodontia were not characteristic of patients with Turner's syndrome. The coronal arch width (C.A.W.) and basal arch width (B.A.W.) were greater and the coronal arch length (C.A.L.) and basal arch length (B.A.L.) were less in patient's with Turner's syndrome. These data indicate underdevelopment of the maxilla in the forward direction forming the wide-, flat-shaped facial characteristic of patients with Turner's syndrome.  相似文献

Detailed oro-maxillofacial studies using dental cast, pantomogram and cephalogram were performed in 43 patients with GH deficiency aged 7-17 years and compared statistically to the results from 62 short children with normal GH secretion. The dental age was retarded as compared to the chronological age in patients with GH deficiency by a mean of 2.0 +/- 1.3 years. This value did not differ statistically from that observed in normal short children (1.7 +/- 0.8 years). However the bone age was significantly retarded in patients with GH deficiency (3.2 +/- 1.7 yrs vs 1.5 +/- 1.1 yrs, p less than 0.001). There was no difference between tooth size or cephalogram analysis results in the children in the two groups. The coronal arch length, basal arch width and basal arch length were shorter in patients with GH deficiency. These data indicate underdevelopment of the maxilla in patients with GH deficiency.  相似文献

Form differences between biological structures can be evaluated using several approaches. When landmark data are available, a recently proposed method (euclidean-distance matrix analysis) seems to be able to differentiate between size and shape differences. This method also localizes those areas which differ most between the two structures. We have applied it to analyze the sexual dimorphism in dental arch form in a sample of 50 men and 45 women. Subjects ranged in age between 20 and 27 years, and had sound dentitions. Fourteen landmarks, corresponding to the centers of gravity (centroids) of the occlusal surfaces of all permanent teeth (right second molar to left second molar), were individualized on the dental casts of subjects. All the possible linear distances between pairs of teeth were computed, thus creating four mean form matrices (one for each arch within sex). Gender differences were tested by using euclidean-distance matrix analysis. No significant differences were demonstrated in the shape of arches, while male arches proved to be slightly bigger than female arches. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

The blepharoplast in a young, developing spermatid of Marchantia polymorpha, is a composite structure consisting of two basal bodies and a subjacent narrow band of axonemal-type tubules that we have termed the "spline." For most of its length, the spline consists of six long parallel tubules that nearly encircle the cell. The spline anterior is asymmetrically widened for about 2 µ by shorter tubules of the same kind. The lateral displacement of three long, adjacent marginal tubules by three short intervening tubules at the spline tip produces a long narrow aperture. Distally, the aperture is closed by the convergence of the displaced tubules with another trio of long tubules. Together, these form the six-membered cell-encircling portion. The expanded spline anterior has, at this stage of development, the four-layered (Vierergruppe) structure, of which the aforementioned tubules constitute the uppermost layer. The lower three strata consist of diagonal fins, elongated chambers, and fine tubules, respectively. The two flagellar bases lie close above the spline tip—one slightly anterior to the other—and diverge unequally from the spline axis. A few triplets extend proximally from the basal bodies, but do not connect with the spline. The anterior basal body is longer than the posterior one.  相似文献
