In the skin surrounding the anus in dogs and other Canidae, there is a glandular sheet consisting of strongly developed hepatoid glands, as well as single apocrine glands and a certain number of sebaceous glands, which are much smaller and occur less frequently than the hepatoid glands. All three circumanal glands have excretory ducts connecting with the hair bags (hair funnels). The hepatoid glands of some Canidae and Bovidae were extensively studied in the 1920s–1930s, but from the beginning of the 1950s until the present, as a result of the often repeated mistake passing from one book to another, old information about the hepatoid glands was fully lost, while the new information does not answer the question about the function of this complex and well developed structure. We were successful in repeating the data of the discoverers of the hepatoid glands and proved that these glands are exocrine and that their cells excrete protein to intercellular channels and then to ducts and hair funnels. According to the published data, the odor of the secretory substance of the circumanal hepatoid glands is essential for communication in wolves and dogs.  相似文献

Since the 1950s, an erroneous viewpoint has gained a foothold in the special and reference literature that dog hepatoid circumanal glands have an abortive nature, lack efferent ducts, and show no signs of secretory activity. Nevertheless, most modern researchers indicate that these glands are actively functioning structures differentiated to exercise some function according to their histological pattern; however, no one has managed to define this function. The latest international publication (Atoji et al., 1998) considers dog circumanal hepatoid glands as a circumanal body similar to epidermis rather than glands. We discuss strong and weak points of the data on dog hepatoid circumanal glands published in 1950s–1990s in comparison with those obtained in our purposeful long-term investigation of various hepatoid glands. We strongly disagree with the viewpoint of Atoji et al. (1998); hepatoid circumanal glands of dog and other canids should be considered as odor glands, their abundant protein secretion covers the skin surface in the circumanal region, it is preserved on fecal marks, and its smell is perceived during mutual nosing of the anal region.  相似文献

Three groups can be recognized among hepatoid glands: glands synthesizing protein alone, glands synthesizing protein and hydrophobic lipids and/or melanin, and intermediate glands. Histological variants (seven in total) can be recognized within each group. Different possible combinations of hepatoid glands with other derivatives of hair follicles are considered. Three types of skin glands, the derivatives of the outer root sheath of the hair follicle, have been compared, which are represented by hepatoid, sebaceous and apocrine sweat glands. There are three characteristic properties inherent to hepatoid glands, existence of a network of intercellular secretory tubules, lysis of some secretory cells during the duct formation which is not the fatty transformation and cyst formation.  相似文献

The morphogenesis of mammalian cutaneous glands is considered based on the analysis of the literature and our own original data with the focus on the issues of gland polymorphism and specific features in postnatal development (from the case study of circumanal hepatoid glands of newborn domestic dogs), including the features reflecting the evolutionary relationships of various types of cutaneous glands. The hepatoid glands are a component of the glandular complex of the hair follicle, which also includes sebaceous and sweat glands; have a specific structure; and produce protein secretion by a merocrine pathway. Characteristic of these glands are wide polymorphism, sex- and age-related differences in the degree of development, occurrence in only a few phylogenetically related mammalian taxa (even-toed ungulates and carnivores); and a signaling type of their secretion. The data support the “generative concept,” relying on the idea of a separate and independent origination of diverse derivatives of the external integuments.  相似文献

Frog skin contains three distinct types of exocrine glands: granular (poison), mucous, and seromucous. The granular gland forms a syncytial secretory compartment within the acinus, which is surrounded by smooth muscle cells. The mucous and seromucous glands are easily identifiable as distinct glands. The serous and mucous secretory cells are arranged in a semilunar configuration opposite the ductal end and are filled with granules. Within the acinus, located at the ductal pole of the gland, are distinct groups of cells with few or no granules in the cytoplasm. In both the mucous and seromucous gland there is a cell type with abundant mitochondria; the one in the mucous gland is located in the region adjacent to the secretory cells. The duct of these glands is two-layered, with the individual cells appearing morphologically similar to the layers of the skin epithelium as the duct traverses the skin. The duct appears to be patent throughout its length. The morphological heterogeneity and distinct distribution of the cell types within the gland acinus may be indicative of a functional heterogeneity that allows the production of distinctly different types of secretion from the same gland type, depending on the type of stimulus.  相似文献

The histology and ultrastructure of the salivary glands of male and female H.a. anatolicum ticks have been examined m unfed and feeding ticks with special emphasis on aspects related to the feeding process. The salivary glands of H.a. anatolicum consisted of three types of acinus (acinus I, II and III) in females and an additional type IV acinus in males. The type I acinus was agranular and showed slight morphologic changes during feeding. The presence of cells with ultrastructural features characteristic of epithelia involved in the secretion of hyperosmotic fluids supports the hypothesis that these acini secrete hygroscopic saliva during questing stages to absorb water from an unsaturated atmosphere. There were five granular cell types (a, b, c1c3) in type II acinus, three granular cell types (d, e, and f) in type III acinus, and one granular cell type (g) in type IV acinus. The cells a, d and e secreted most of their granules early in feeding and are considered to be cement precursors. The b and c cells appeared to synthesise and secrete their products throughout feeding and so are likely to secrete anticoagulants, enzymes and other pharmacologically active agents required during feeding. The interstitial cells, which were insignificant in acinar types II, III and IV of unfed ticks, became more distinct during feeding. The type III acinus in females showed remarkable cell transformations, during the course of feeding. The ablumenal interstitial cells of type III acinus, in females formed a basal labyrinth of extraordinary complexity by interdigitating with the basolateral membranes of transformed f cells to form a network of extracellular channels to excrete fluid during feeding. There was an enormous increase in the secretory granules of g cells as the feeding advanced. The secretory granules were released by a process of exocytosis, by direct fusion with the apical membranes and through channels connecting several granules.  相似文献

alpha 2u-Globulin, the principal urinary protein of the male rat, has extensive sequence homology with many lipid binding proteins. The highest concentration of alpha 2u-globulin is found in the preputial gland, a holocrine secretory organ with pheromonal function. Meibomian and perianal glands are two other modified sebaceous glands with holocrine secretory cycles and pleiomorphic peroxisomes capable of synthesizing pheromonal lipids. Immunocytochemical examination shows the presence of alpha 2u-globulin in the acinar cells of all three of these modified sebaceous glands. Whereas in the preputial gland all of the acinar cells exhibit immunoreactivity, in the meibomian and perianal glands only selective cells contain alpha 2u-globulin. In the case of the preputial gland, in addition to the acinar cells some stratified epithelial cells also were immunoreactive. In the perianal and meibomian glands, keratinocytes lining nearby hair shafts and select cells of accessory oil glands stained for alpha 2u-globulin. In situ hybridization with a cloned cRNA probe confirmed the immunocytochemical data. Presence of the alpha 2u-globulin mRNA in these glands was also established by Northern blot analysis. Immunoelectron microscopic examination of preputial alpha 2u-globulin showed the presence of this protein in secretory granules of various maturational stages. Immunolabeled alpha 2u was also found in attached vesicles containing protein and lipid inclusions. The lytic cells were not only loaded with alpha 2u-globulin but also contained sharp-edged, irregularly shaped electron-dense granules which stained heavily for this protein. Specific localization of alpha 2u-globulin and its mRNA in three pheromone-producing sebaceous glands and its structural homology with known lipid binding proteins indicate a pheromone carrier role of alpha 2u-globulin.  相似文献

【目的】蟋螽是直翅目中唯一具有吐丝筑巢行为的类群。本研究旨在探讨蟋螽丝腺的结构特点。【方法】应用解剖学观察、免疫荧光、苏木精-伊红染色、PAS苏木精染色、扫描电镜和透射电镜等方法从细胞水平对黑缘烟蟋螽Capnogryllacris nigromarginata丝腺的显微与超微结构进行了观察。【结果】黑缘烟蟋螽丝腺由导管和腺泡构成。腺泡由鞘细胞延伸形成的结缔组织鞘包围。腺泡的主体有4种细胞,分别为Ⅰ型分泌细胞、Ⅱ型分泌细胞、围细胞和腔细胞。Ⅰ型和Ⅱ型分泌细胞为大的腺细胞,形状不规则。分泌细胞细胞核很大,胞质内有大量的内质网和分泌颗粒。Ⅰ型分泌细胞靠近腺泡中心,PAS-苏木精染色表明Ⅰ型分泌细胞内含糖蛋白,Ⅱ型分泌细胞在腺泡外周,位于Ⅰ型分泌细胞与围细胞或结缔组织鞘之间。腔细胞分散在分泌细胞之间,包围形成胞外运输分泌物的通道。围细胞与鞘细胞接触,具有由细胞膜内陷形成的微绒毛腔,胞质内有大量的线粒体。围细胞微绒毛腔与腔细胞包围的细胞外运输通道相连,分泌细胞分泌的颗粒聚集在分泌细胞和胞外运输通道之间的连接处,并将分泌物排出至胞外运输通道。多个腺泡的胞外运输通道汇集到由单层细胞组成的丝腺导管。单层导管细胞靠近管腔外围具有规则排列的质膜内陷和大量伸长的线粒体;靠近管腔的一侧具连续的细胞膜突起,在导管壁的表皮下紧密排列。【结论】黑缘烟蟋螽丝腺分泌细胞分为Ⅰ型分泌细胞和Ⅱ型分泌细胞。分泌物质产生及分泌过程依次经过分泌细胞、腔细胞包围的胞外通道、分支导管、总导管和唾窦。其中在腺泡细胞之间,分泌物向外运输过程中,围细胞微绒毛腔的微丝束可能对分泌物的外排提供推动力。  相似文献

In addition to performing general histology and cytology of the ciliary glands of the miniature pig, we studied the localization of glycoconjugates and beta-defensins in these glands with the use of carbohydrate histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. The secretory cells of the glands were equipped with non-homogeneous secretory granules, a well-developed Golgi apparatus and rough endoplasmic reticulum. The secretory epithelium and luminal secretion of the glands contained large amounts of neutral and acidic glycoconjugates with various saccharide residues (alpha-L-Fuc, beta-D-Gal, alpha-D-GalNAc and sialic acid). The sebaceous glands and tarsal glands also exhibited positive reactions to most of the histochemical methods. Additionally, the antimicrobial peptide group of beta-defensins was demonstrated to be products of the ciliary glands, as well as the sebaceous glands and tarsal glands. The results obtained are discussed with regard to the specific function of the ciliary glandular secretions. These secretory products may be related to the moistening and general protection of the skin surface of the eyelid and ocular surface.  相似文献

Calnexin (Cnx) has been characterized as a membrane-bound protein that transiently interacts in a unique chaperone system with newly synthesized glycoproteins in order to allow the establishment of their proper tertiary and, in most cases, quarternary structures. The aim of the study was to identify and to locate the expression of Cnx in the three major salivary glands of humans by different methods. Strong expression of Cnx protein and mRNA were generally found in serous salivary secretory units. With regard to mucous secretory units, expression of Cnx was only detectable at a low level in mucous acinar cells of sublingual glands, but not of submandibular glands. Expression of Cnx was always preserved in the surface epithelium of intralobar and interlobular duct segments. In addition, expression of Cnx was detected in sebaceous glands of parotid tissues, with a distribution pattern resembling that seen in sebaceous glands of the normal skin. In conclusion, production of saliva is associated with the expression of Cnx. Synthesis of molecules in mucous secretory units is not necessarily associated with a strong Cnx expression, whereas synthesis in serous secretory units apparently is. The tissue-specific Cnx expression is also paralleled by the observation that the secretions produced by the major salivary glands differ in their composition and amount.  相似文献

Stimulation by norepinephrine in physiological concentration was used on the dorsal skin of the Argentine tree-frog Phyllomedusa hypochondrialis azurea to trigger contraction of myoepithelial cells encircling the serous glands and provoke secretory release. This hylid species possesses two kinds of serous cutaneous glands, producing secretory granules or vesicles (type Ia and Ib serous units, respectively), along with serous-derived glands which synthesise lipids and store them in complex aggregates (type II units). Structural and ultrastructural observations on myoepithelia, secretory units and gland products collected in saline after discharge, revealed consistent but different responses in the three types investigated. Type Ia glands reacted intensely to treatment, with both contractile and secretory responses, type Ib glands were only mildly affected in their myoepithelia and glands of type II were not affected at all. According to data available in the literature, these findings suggest that: (a) the dense (type Ia) granules are expelled as a phasic response through bulk (holocrine) discharge, (b) the secretory (type Ib) vesicles are released as a tonic response through a merocrine mechanism and (c) lipid (type II) aggregates are exuded as a secretory component of a complex behavioural response which tends to reduce transcutaneous water loss. Furthermore, these findings indicate that the use of pharmacological modulation of myoepithelial activity allows selective collection of skin products in species characterised by serous gland polymorphism.  相似文献

Histology and lectin histochemistry were performed in the infraorbital gland of the Japanese serow. The gland is composed of glandular tissues and a pouch filled with the secretion. The tissues consist of an inner layer of sebaceous glands and an outer layer of apocrine glands. The male sebaceous layer is made up of the ordinary type, whereas the female's layer consists of the ordinary and modified types. In the apocrine gland stained with Arachis hypogaea (PNA), nine different patterns of glandular tubules were distinguished on the basis of staining of the cytoplasm, the Golgi area of secretory cells and secretion. Secretory modes of apocrine secretion and exocytosis were included in these stainings. Myoepithelial cells stained constantly with Glycine max (SBA) except when only the Golgi area of secretory cells was positive. The modified sebaceous gland was stained with PNA, SBA, Ricinus communis I (RCA), Triticum vulgaris (WGA), Canavalia ensiformis (Con A) and Ulex europaeus I (UEA), while the ordinary type was positive in PNA, RCA, SBA, WGA and Con A. The secretion in the pouch was stained with PNA, RCA, SBA, Dolichos biflorus (DBA), WGA and Con A. These findings suggest that the modified sebaceous gland contains large amounts of glycoconjugates and the apocrine gland shows a cyclic secretory process of apocrine secretion and exocytosis.  相似文献

The gular gland of the bat Tadarida brasiliensis is a specialized sebaceous gland located in the skin of the suprasternal region of adult males. It consists of an aggregation of simple branched tubulo-acinar gland units, the number of which varies seasonally. Each acinus is composed of densely packed sebaceous cells at various stages of differentiation. Acinar basal cells and cells of the epithelium of the ducts can differentiate into sebaceous cells. Two main changes appear in the cytoplasm concurrent with the sebaceous transformation: the differentiation of cytoplasmic organelles and the deposition of lipid material. The appearance of a different type of mitochondrion and the development of large numbers of ribosomes and polyribosomes can be recognized in the cytoplasm at an early stage of differentiation. Concomitant with the deposition of significant numbers of lipid droplets, the cells develop abundant agranular endoplasmic reticulum occurring mainly as scattered tubular cisternae. These at times form whorls surrounding lipid droplets. At later stages, the cisternae of the agranular endoplasmic reticulum often occur in crystalline arrays between secretory oil droplets. The roles of the different cytoplasmic organelles, especially in relation to the production of sebum, are discussed.  相似文献

Summary The cement gland apparatus of newly hatched Pterophyllum scalare Cuv. & Val. was examined by histology, scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The whole organ is composed of three pairs of endoepithelial, ductless glands, which cause prominent elevations on the larval head and are found in a specific arrangement. Each single gland is represented by an aggregation of elongated, tubular secretory cells surrounding a pyriform acinus. It overlies a basal lamina and is covered by the outer layer of the bilaminar embryonic epidermis.Two different types of secretory cells can be distinguished. One type is restricted to the bottom of the cavity. It is characterized by multiform cytoplasmic protrusions, which project into the gland's cavity. The secretory granules contain a network of light filamentous material. The second type constitutes the side wall of the acinus. It does not develop any protrusions. The contents of the secretory granules is of very high and homogeneous electron density. The mechanism of extrusion is discussed for both cell types. All secretory cells show a strong PAS-reaction. In the female genital system of Zygaena moths, an additional pair of accessory glands is present besides the Y-shaped sebaceous gland. The term 'Petersen's glands' is proposed for these organs. Anatomy, histology, histochemistry and cytology of Petersen's glands of Zygaena trifolii are described. The sac-like glands, situated in the extreme dorsocaudal part of the abdomen, can be divided into a purely secretory part consisting of acini with large pear-shaped gland cells and a reservoir part with combined secretory and storage function. The secretory cells of the acini are penetrated by long curved ductules or secretory end apparatuses having feltwork consisting of very fine filaments. The cytoplasm is characterized by abundance of smooth tubular endoplasmic reticulum (ATER) and the presence of peroxisomes. This cytoplasmic organization is in accordance with the chemical composition of the sticky secretion, which evidently consists completely of lipids. The ultrastructure of the epithelium lining the reservoir of the glands has both traits of secretory and of transporting epithelia. Besides contributing to the secretion, it may be involved in absorption of residual aqueous phase from the contents of the reservoir.  相似文献

The salivary glands of the brown ear tick of cattle, R. appendiculatus, from both sexes and at all stages of feeding, were examined as whole glands and as sections for ultrastructural and histochemical changes. The type 1 acinus consists of a basal labyrinth formed by the interdigitations of a central cell and four peripheral cells. These cells form a specialized border with a central constrictor cell which surrounds the acinar duct. The plasma membrane of the central cell is exposed to the duct. The type 1 acini do not appear to secrete active saliva components involved in feeding. The type 2 acini undergo a great increase in synthetic and secretory activity during feeding in both sexes and secrete a lipoprotein probably to form part of the attachment cone and also glycoproteins and esterases of unknown functions. The type 3 acini of both sexes also secrete a lipoprotein probably to form part of the attachment cone. The f cells of these acini in the females transiently secrete a glycoprotein of unknown function and then transform to become part of a water excreting unit. In the males the secretory activity of the granular cells of the type 2 and 3 acini is maintained for further attachments. The type 4 acini of the males accumulate masses of proteinaceous granules. The system of interstitial cells and intercellular spaces in types 2, 3 and 4 acini is large and increasingly active during feeding.  相似文献

The histochemistry of glycoconjugates in the nasolabial skin of the goat has been studied by means of a series of selected methods of light microscopy. The epidermis of the nasolabial skin was found to contain neutral and acid glycoconjugates with different saccharide residues. The secretory epithelial cells and secretory substances of the sebaceous glands contained primarily neutral glycoconjugates, whereas those of the apocrine glands involved largely strongly acidic and neutral glycoconjugates. In the epithelial cells and secretory substances of the nasolabial eccrine glands, glycoconjugates involved were characteristically strongly neutral but weakly acidic in nature. From the present results, the histophysiological significance of glycoconjugates in the particular histologic structures of the nasolabial skin has been discussed with special reference to the functions of this particular skin type in the goat.  相似文献
