Shenzhen was a famous typical rapid-urbanization city in China, and this study compares plant species diversity in urban parks from the start of urbanization through 2011. Results show that the plant species biodiversity increased rapidly: the rate changed from 140% to 980% and the average increasing rate was 406.90%, but only 12.59% of plants spread into the park naturally. Shrubs had the highest rate; with change increasing from 20.70% to 43.54%, they replaced trees to become the dominant type. The biodiversity of native plants also increased, but their proportion relative to all species had declined. The homogenization of plant species in the parks increased; more than half of the plant species (62.24%) are located in 5–7 parks at once now, compared with 65.52% of species located in only 2–3 parks at the start of the study. The increase of species was faster than the increase of families; many new species planted belong to a few specific families. The ratio of species to families declined from 0.40 to 0.32. Results indicate that the rapid increase of plant species diversity as well as their homogenization happened in the initial stage of urbanization, and so rapid urbanization might be the major factor in the changes in plant species diversity in municipal parks. Rapid urbanization was an important cause of change in plant species diversity.  相似文献

The sometimes sharp thermal variations and irregular precipitations and force concentrated over short periods characterize the Mediterranean climate. The structure of the zooplanktonic settlement was analyzed during one year in three Algerian reservoirs (lakes) with different geographical and climatic situation, in relation to abiotic factors (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, suspended matter, carbonates, nitrogenized and phosphorated nutritive salts). A canonical correspondence analysis was used to estimate the influence of the abiotic factors on the temporal distribution.The studied lakes are located, on the one hand, in northern Algeria, in a sub-humid area (Lake Boukourdane) and, on the other hand, in the South of the country, in the arid region (Foum El Ghorza and Djorf Torba). Analysis of the environmental parameters indicates that there is a seasonal variation in the three reservoirs. In Lake Foum El Ghorza, the temperature and hydrology variations, linked with the arid climate, affects the concentration of dissolved oxygen, which strongly decreases (1.5 mg/l), involving a pH reduction; suspended matters are sometimes high, coming from the stripped catchment area, causing a turbidity in this not very deep lake. The study of the distribution of the species allowed us to highlight a seasonal temporal variation. Lake Boukourdane, in the sub-humid zone, has an increased specific richness (SR=13). The various species evolve in alternation during the annual cycle. The representative species of this lake is Copidodiaptomus numidicus, characteristic of the rainy and endemic zone of the western Mediterranean; it is dominant (67%) in the spring. The Stenothermal species Diaphanosoma brachyurum, endemic of hot waters, is common to the two lakes; it evolves particularly in the summer (51.3%) at Boukourdane, whereas it is perennial and dominant (55%) in the spring at Djorf Torba. The specific richness is lower in Djorf Torba (SR=7) and in Foum El Ghorza (SR=6). The species collected in these two lakes are common and cosmopolitan, but they are adapted to the extreme conditions of the arid climate. Nevertheless, the species evolving in Lake Foum El Ghorza have undergone a significant decline, which has reduced the number of species and their density in the summer-autumn period. Thus, we can say that in the studied lakes, the hydrological factors and the temperature related to the Mediterranean climate would be two of the principal causes of the temporal distribution of the species. The quantitative composition of the rotifer fauna of seven interconnected lakes located in southern California was studied in a preliminary investigation. The lakes are fed by reclaimed sewage, and the water quality increases rapidly from the first lake, barely able to support life, to a series of lovely lakes stocked with fish and utilized for recreation. The Shannon index of rotifer population diversity showed an appropriate increase. Up to 24 – 28 different rotifer taxa in each lake provided a rich community dominated by Brachionids, Keratella and Trichocerca. The diversity and quantity of the rotifer association then declined again in the last lake. Comparison of the lakes using the Bray and Curtis index of similarity and cluster analysis supported the picture of a lake-chain evolution, a biotic development showing a maximum curve.  相似文献

Chemical and chlorophyll a concentrations of seven Ethiopian rift-valley lakes were studied during 1990–2000. Results were compared with studies made between 1960 and 1990 in an attempt to detect long-term changes. Three different trends are apparent in the salinities (and the correlates conductivity, alkalinity, sodium concentration) of these lakes over the last 40 years: three lakes (lakes Zwai, Shalla and Abaya) have maintained their salinity levels from the 1960s, two lakes (lakes Langano and Awassa) have become more dilute, and the salinity levels of Lake Chamo and the soda lake Abijata have increased. Concentrations of silicate decreased in almost all the lakes whereas soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP) increased in most lakes. Chlorophyll a concentrations were higher in the recent samples from all lakes except two, which in conjunction with results from SRP and silicate analyses suggest eutrophication in four out of the seven lakes studied. The study relates salinization in lakes with closed drainage to increased human activities in their catchments, intensified by changes in climate during the last three decades in sub-Saharan Africa.  相似文献

Food webs may be affected by evolutionary processes, and effective evolutionary time ultimately affects the probability of species evolving to fill the niche space. Thus, ecosystem history may set important evolutionary constraints on community composition and food web structure. Food chain length (FCL) has long been recognized as a fundamental ecosystem attribute. We examined historical effects on FCL in large lakes spanning >6 orders of magnitude in age. We found that food chains in the world's ancient lakes (n?=?8) were significantly shorter than in recently formed lakes (n?=?10) and reservoirs (n?=?3), despite the fact that ancient lakes harbored much higher species richness, including many endemic species. One potential factor leading to shorter FCL in ancient lakes is an increasing diversity of trophic omnivores and herbivores. Speciation could simply broaden the number of species within a trophic group, particularly at lower trophic levels and could also lead to a greater degree of trophic omnivory. Our results highlight a counter-intuitive and poorly-understood role of evolutionary history in shaping key food web properties such as FCL.  相似文献

The ecology of a lake is mainly controlled by mixing processes; particularly, in tropical oligomictic lakes, the occurrence frequency and magnitude of convection govern the vertical mixing of chemicals and organisms. In this study, vertical profiles of water temperature, dissolved oxygen, electric conductivity, turbidity, and chlorophyll a were measured in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018 in two Sumatran deep lakes, Lakes Maninjau and Singkarak. In Lake Maninjau, intensive surveys on the profiles were also conducted in three different seasons in 2018. The comparison of the profiles between 2015 and 2017 indicated the events of large convection down to the lake bottoms happened in both of the lakes. Similarly, small convection down to around 30 m depth was found in the period between May and Jul, 2018. Air temperature drops up to five degrees centigrade were observed in these periods, confirmed by the changes in lake surface temperature estimated by MODIS imagery for the lakes. The magnitudes of the convective events were discussed with the observed amounts of heat loss and the estimated heat transfer through lake surface. Furthermore, the influences of such events on anoxic hypolimnetic waters were evaluated and considered from the view of climate change.

In a chain of lakes along which nutrient availability varies in a gradient, we performed factorial nutrient enrichment experiments to determine if nitrogen limitation was the principal factor controlling the differences in phytoplankton biomass, photosynthetic productivity, diversity, and species composition among two of the lakes in the chain. In the least productive lake, East Graham Lake, P and C enrichments (in the absence of N enrichment) had no effect on biomass and diversity, whereas within two weeks the N enrichments (alone or in any combination with P and/or C) increased the biomass and decreased the diversity of East Graham Lake phytoplankton to levels similar or identical to those in more productive Shoe Lake. Short-term 14C photosynthetic rates in East Graham Lake water also responded only to N in the third week. However, photosynthesis was stimulated by P in the first week, and a few species did increase in numbers with P enrichment, suggesting that some degree of P limitation remains in addition to the strong N limitation in East Graham Lake. A number of species responded individually to the enrichments in a manner similar to that of the overall community, and a strong overlapping of discriminant analysis scores for N-enriched East Graham Lake with those of Shoe Lake was consistent with our prediction that the community structure of N-enriched East Graham Lake water would shift toward that of Shoe Lake. However, many species did not respond consistently with these results, and the nutrients tested were clearly not a major factor in the differences in abundance of those species among the two lakes. The results support the argument that overall biomass production and diversity of the phytoplankton community in a lake can be a relatively simple function of a single most-limiting nutrient. However, many of the species responses also confirm that, while nutrient availability is an important factor in the control of the species composition of the community, other factors are likely to prevent reliable predictions of all species effects on the basis of nutrient availability alone.  相似文献

Moderately concentrated, highly coloured natural water was fractionated on Sephadex G-100 columns with distilled water. The applied fractionation procedure produces elution profiles where colloidal and truly dissolved materials are clearly distinguished. The particulate fraction which cannot penetrate the dextran gel bed was calculated from the difference between the predicted and observed yield of gel filtration. The coloured material of polyhumic waters investigated was thus separated into particulate and colloidal (light scattering, iron containing), and truly dissolved (no light scattering, fluorescent) fractions with characteristic distribution patterns in creeks and lakes. Considerable variability has been recorded in the radiocaesium activity concentration of muscle between individual sheep in the same flocks in upland areas that received fallout from the Chernobyl accident. In a previous paper we demonstrated that there is a propensity for certain sheep within a flock to be always amongst the most contaminated and others to be consistently the least contaminated. Here we report a study to determine the extent to which variation in the metabolism of radiocaesium by individual sheep may contribute to the observed variability within sheep flocks. The transfer coefficient and biological half-life of orally administered ionic radiocaesium in muscle were determined under controlled conditions in 22 ewes from an upland farm in an area of the UK which received comparatively high levels of Chernobyl fallout. There was considerable variation between individuals in both the transfer coefficient (0.19–0.56 day⋅kg–1; mean 0.34 day⋅kg–1) and biological half-life in muscle (5.2– 18.7 days; mean 9.8 days). Changes in liveweight during the study and feed intake together accounted for 72% of the variation in the derived transfer coefficients; liveweight change also accounted for 56% of the observed variation in biological half-life. In a subsequent study, the true absorption coefficient of radiocaesium was determined in 12 of the ewes. There was a positive correlation between transfer and true absorption coefficients (R=0.57). We conclude that differences in the metabolism of radiocaesium will contribute to the observed variability in radiocaesium activity concentrations within sheep flocks in areas which were contaminated by Chernobyl fallout. We also suggest that for growing animals, the influence of liveweight change and feed intake on radiocaesium transfer may be greater than observed here. Similarly, in dairy cattle, for which feed intake changes considerably during the course of a lactation, large temporal variation in radiocaesium transfer to milk could be expected.   1. Reliable determination of organisms is a prerequisite to explore their spatial and temporal occurrence and to study their evolution, ecology, and dispersal. In Europe, Bavaria (Germany) provides an excellent study system for research on the origin and diversification of freshwater organisms including dinophytes, due to the presence of extensive lake districts and ice age river valleys. Bavarian freshwater environments are ecologically diverse and range from deep nutrient-poor mountain lakes to shallow nutrient-rich lakes and ponds.
  2. We obtained amplicon sequence data (V4 region of small subunit-rRNA, c. 410 bp long) from environmental samples collected at 11 sites in Upper Bavaria. We found 186 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) associated with Dinophyceae that were further classified by means of a phylogenetic placement approach.
  3. The maximum likelihood tree inferred from a well-curated reference alignment comprised a systematically representative set of 251 dinophytes, covering the currently known molecular diversity and OTUs linked to type material if possible. Environmental OTUs were scattered across the reference tree, but accumulated mostly in freshwater lineages, with 79% of OTUs placed in either Apocalathium, Ceratium, or Peridinium, the most frequently encountered taxa in Bavaria based on morphology.
  4. Twenty-one Bavarian OTUs showed identical sequences to already known and vouchered accessions, two of which are linked to type material, namely Palatinus apiculatus and Theleodinium calcisporum. Particularly within Peridiniaceae, delimitation of Peridinium species was based on the intraspecific sequence variation.
  5. Our approach indicates that high-throughput sequencing of environmental samples is effective for reliable determination of dinophyte species in Bavarian lakes. We further discuss the importance of well-curated reference databases that remain to be developed in the future.

Shoe Lake and East Graham Lake, part of a small chain of lakes in southeastern Michigan, USA, differ in nutrient loading and in the structure and productivity of their aquatic plant communities. A comparative study of species frequency and biomass distributions, nutrient contents, and responses to experimental nutrient enrichment and shading, was conducted to determine the principal factors controlling the macrophyte dynamics. A central objective was to address the question of why rooted macrophyte growth declines with eutrophication, and to test existing models designed to explain this phenomenon. In the more eutrophic Shoe Lake, diversity and productivity of rooted macrophytes were relatively low, restricted primarily by combined shading of phytoplankton, periphyton, and non-rooted macrophytes (principally Ceratophyllum demersum, along with Utricularia vulgaris and Cladophora fracta). In the less eutrophic East Graham Lake, lower nitrogen availability restricted the growth of all of these shading components, resulting in clearer water and higher productivity and diversity of rooted macrophytes. The macrophytes did not allelopathically suppress the phytoplankton in East Graham Lake. The results supported a direct relationship between nutrient loading, increasing growth of phytoplankton, periphyton and non-rooted macrophytes, and decline of rooted macrophytes.  相似文献

Radiocaesium absorption and retention in reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) calves was compared in groups fed diets containing different proportions of lichen and concentrates, and different chemical forms of radiocaesium ((134)CsCl in solution or fallout from the Chernobyl accident). Daily intakes of fallout radiocaesium were 15-23 kBq, while daily intakes of (134)CsCl ranged from 70 kBq to 1,160 kBq. The half-life for radiocaesium in red blood cells (RBC) in animals fed with a pure lichen diet exceeded that in animals fed with a combined diet of lichen and concentrates by 40% (17.8+/-0.7 days vs. 12.7+/-0.4 days). Corresponding differences in the half-lives for urinary and faecal excretion were about 60% and 40%, respectively. Transfer coefficients (F(f)) to reindeer meat were estimated to be 0.25+/-0.01 days kg(-1) for fallout radiocaesium and 1.04+/-0.03 days kg(-1) for (134)CsCl, reflecting differences in both radiocaesium bioavailability and retention. The bioavailability of the Chernobyl radiocaesium in lichen in 1988 was estimated at ca. 35% compared to (134)CsCl.  相似文献
