Abstract While citrus rootstocks differ in capacity for sodium and chloride ion exclusion, citrus scion species also vary in foliar sensitivity to NaCl salinisation. Of two common scions, ‘Lisbon’ lemon appears more sensitive, whereas ‘Valencia’ orange in less sensitive to leaf salt. In an attempt to explain this difference. ‘Valencia’ orange (Citrus sinensis [L.] Osbeck) and ‘Prior Lisbon’ lemon (Citrus limon [L.] Burm. F.) were budded to rootstocks known to differ in their ability to exclude sodium ions viz, the strong excluder Trifoliata (Poncirus trifoliata [L.] Raf.), and the weaker excluder Troyer citrange (C. sinensis×P. trifoliata); neither rootstock shows strong exclusion of chloride ions. Budded trees were held under a photosynthetic photon flux density of 450 μmol m 2 S 1 and watered with nutrient solution containing either 0 or 50 mol m 3 NaCl. Growth and photosynthetic responses were measured over 58 d following onset of salinization: salinity effects on leaf gas exchange were studied in relation to changes in leaf water status, compatible solutes and foliar content of sodium and chloride ions, over that same period. Once root-zone salinization began to influence leaf solutes (day 30 onwards), lemon showed a steeper increase in leaf chloride than occurred for orange. Although rootstock differences were without effect on this ingress of chloride ions for either scion, sodium ions were excluded from both scions to a larger extent by Trifoliata than by Troyer citrange. Carbon dioxide assimilation of scion foliage was reduced earlier and to a much larger extent by rootzone salinization in lemon than in orange. Furthermore, comparisons of CO2 assimilation in relation to leaf tissue solutes between scions (on either rootstock) showed stronger responses for both sodium and chloride ions in lemon than in orange. Faster ingress of chloride into lemon leaves was identified as the crucial factor which predisposed towards expression of that contrast between scions. Although contrasts between scions in photosynthetic responses to salinization matched a faster ingress of chloride into lemon than into orange leaves, the sharper photosynthetic response of ‘Prior Lisbon’ lemon to salinity was not solely attributable to higher concentrations of chloride ions (cell sap basis). A difference between species in subcellular compartmentation of the chloride ion under saline conditions was invoked.  相似文献

The wild grapevine, Vitis vinifera L. ssp. sylvestris (Gmelin) Hegi, considered as the ancestor of the cultivated grapevine, is native from Eurasia. In Spain, natural populations of V. vinifera ssp. sylvestris can still be found along river banks. In this work, we have performed a wide search of wild grapevine populations in Spain and characterized the amount and distribution of their genetic diversity using 25 nuclear SSR loci. We have also analysed the possible coexistence in the natural habitat of wild grapevines with naturalized grapevine cultivars and rootstocks. In this way, phenotypic and genetic analyses identified 19% of the collected samples as derived from cultivated genotypes, being either naturalized cultivars or hybrid genotypes derived from spontaneous crosses between wild and cultivated grapevines. The genetic diversity of wild grapevine populations was similar than that observed in the cultivated group. The molecular analysis showed that cultivated germplasm and wild germplasm are genetically divergent with low level of introgression. Using a model‐based approach implemented in the software structure , we identified four genetic groups, with two of them fundamentally represented among cultivated genotypes and two among wild accessions. The analyses of genetic relationships between wild and cultivated grapevines could suggest a genetic contribution of wild accessions from Spain to current Western cultivars.  相似文献

To reveal specific Cl transport activities in the symplastic pathway, uptake, long‐distance transport and distribution of Cl have been investigated in the citrus rootstocks Carrizo citrange (CC, Cl includer) and Cleopatra mandarin (CM, Cl excluder). Using an external concentration of 4.5 mm Cl, both species actively transported Cl to levels that exceeded the critical requirement concentration by one and two orders of magnitude in the excluder and the includer rootstocks, respectively. Both CC and CM modulated Cl influx according to the availability of the nutrient as uptake capacity was induced by Cl starvation, but inhibited after Cl resupply. Net Cl uptake was higher in the includer CC, an observation that correlated with a lower root‐to‐shoot transport capacity in the excluder CM. The patterns of tissue Cl accumulation indicated that chloride exclusion in the salt‐tolerant rootstock CM was caused by a reduced net Cl loading into the root xylem. Genes CcCCC1, CcSLAH1 and CcICln1 putatively involved in the regulation of chloride transport were isolated and their expression analysed in response to both changes in the nutritional status of Cl and salt stress. The previously uncharacterized ICln gene exhibited a strong repression to Cl application in the excluder rootstock, suggesting a role in regulating Cl homeostasis in plants.  相似文献

Nodal shoot segments of four grapevine genotypes well known for their Fe-chlorosis characteristic [Vitis vinifera × Vitis berlandieri Fercal, resistant; V. berlandieri × Vitis rupestris 1103 P, mid-resistant; Solonis (Vitis riparia × V. rupestris × Vitis candicans) × Othello (Vitis labrusca × V. riparia × V. vinifera) 1613 C, susceptible; V. vinifera L. cv. Perlette, resistant] were cultured in vitro. The effects of three levels of iron sodium ethylene-diaminotetraacetate (FeNaEDTA; 9, 18, 36 mg l−1) and three mixtures of iron and 840 mg l−1 NaHCO3 (sodium bicarbonate) in the Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium supplemented 4.9 μM indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) were compared. We assayed the chlorosis rating of leaves, total chlorophyll of leaves, dry shoot weights of the plantlets, and active and total Fe content of the leaves. The most suitable concentration in determining the reaction of genotypes to iron chlorosis was 9 mg l−1 FeNaEDTA. Bicarbonate addition had negative effects on the iron intake and development of plants. While all genotypes were affected by non-ferrous conditions, Fercal and Perlette were found to be the most resistant genotypes and 1613 C rootstock as the most susceptible. The chlorosis rating of the tested genotypes ranked according to their known degree of tolerance and susceptibility to lime-induced chlorosis. The results of this study showed that the in vitro technique could successfully be used in viticulture to get results in shorter times in the studies, aiming at breeding new rootstocks and varieties suitable to calcareous soil conditions and determining the reactions of existing genotypes to Fe chlorosis.  相似文献

We present here characterization data for seven new microsatellite markers designed from new microsatellite loci isolated from a microsatellite‐enriched DNA library from Vitis vinifera. The observed heterozygosity varied from 0.73 up to 0.93 and the number of alleles per locus ranged from 12 to 26. This high polymorphism makes these new markers interesting for use in genotyping studies and completing the set of microsatellite markers already available for V. vinifera. Additionally these seven new markers appear to be conserved in four other Vitis species and 15 Vitis hybrids used as rootstocks for V. vinifera cultivation.  相似文献

Abstract Fibrous roots of four citrus hybrids and parent rootstocks from which the hybrids were generated, all selected for their different Cl? exclusion abilities, were assayed for phospholipid, galactolipid and free 4-desmethylsterol content. There was no correlation between a plant's ability to exclude Cl? and the level of either phospholipid, galactolipid, or total free sterol in the roots of control plants. However, an inverse correlation was established between the ratio of phospholipid to free sterol in control roots and total leaf Cl? levels of plants treated with 50 mol m?3 NaCl for 56 d. With the exception of a significant decrease in hybrid 80-05-05, galactolipid levels were unaffected by salt treatment. Phospholipid levels were significantly increased in two parent rootstocks viz. Trifoliate orange (Poncirus trifoliata (L.). Raf.) and Carrizo citrange (Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck ×P. trifoliata) and one hybrid (80-02-08) but were otherwise unchanged by salt treatment. Free sterol levels were significantly increased by salt treatment in all of the better Cl? excluders except Carrizo citrange i.e. in Rangpur lime (Citrus reticulata Blanco var. austera hybrid?), Cleopatra mandarin (Citrus reticulata Blanco) and all hybrids except 80–05–13. In all genotypes examined, salt-treatment resulted in a significant decrease in the ratio of sitosterol to stigmasterol reflecting, primarily, an increase in the stigmasterol level. The two poorer Cl? excluders (Trifoliate orange and hybrid 80–05–13) both underwent a significant decrease in the ratio of ‘more planar’ to ‘less planar’ sterols. The inverse correlation between the phospholipid to free sterol ratio of control plants and leaf Cl? level of salt treated plants suggests that this ratio has the potential to be used as a biochemical marker of Cl? exclusion ability in citrus.  相似文献

Embryogenic cell suspensions of two grapevine rootstocks: 110 Ritcher (V. berlandieri × V. rupestris), 41B (V. vinifera × V. berlandieri) and several table grape and wine cultivars (Vitis vinifera) were successfully cryopreserved by the encapsulation–vitrification method. Embryogenic cell suspensions were precultured for 3 days in liquid MGN medium supplemented with daily increasing sucrose concentrations of 0.25, 0.5, 0.75 M. Precultured cells were encapsulated and directly dehydrated with a highly concentrated vitrification solution prior to immersion in liquid nitrogen for 1 h. After rewarming at 40 °C for 3 min, cryopreserved cells were post-cultured on solid MGN medium supplemented with 2.5 g l–1 activated charcoal. Surviving cells were transferred to solid MGN medium for regrowth or solid MG medium for embryo development and then to solid WPM for plant regeneration. Optimal viability was 42–76% of cryopreserved cells when cell suspensions were precultured with a final sucrose concentration of 0.75 M and dehydrated with PVS2 at 0 °C for 270 min. Biochemical analysis showed that sucrose preculture caused changes in levels of total soluble protein and sugars in cell suspensions. Although the increase in fresh weight was significantly lower in cryopreserved cells than in control cells, the growth pattern of the cryopreserved cells and control cells was the same after two subcultures, following re-establishment in cell suspensions. Protocol developed in this study suggests a universal and highly efficient cryopreservation system suitable for several genetically diversed Vitis species.  相似文献

Protoplast fusion technology has been utilized in many crops to generate allotetraploid somatic hybrids, and sometimes autotetraploids as a byproduct of the process. A brief history of this technology development is provided, along with a simple protocol developed for citrus, which can be easily adapted to other plants. Protoplast fusion has become a significant tool in ploidy manipulation that can be applied in various cultivar improvement schemes. In rare cases, a new somatic hybrid may have direct utility as an improved cultivar; however, the most important application of somatic hybridization is the building of novel germplasm as a source of elite breeding parents for various types of conventional crosses for both scion and rootstock improvement. Somatic hybridization is generating superior allotetraploid breeding parents for use in interploid crosses to generate seedless triploids. Seedlessness is a primary breeding objective for new fresh fruit citrus varieties, and several thousand triploid hybrids have been produced using somatic hybrids as the tetraploid parent. Protoplast fusion is also being utilized to produce somatic hybrids that combine complementary diploid rootstocks, which have shown good potential for tree size control. Tree size control has gained importance as a means of reducing harvesting costs, maximizing the efficiency of modern cold protection methodology, and facilitating the adaptation of new fruit production systems. Successful somatic hybridization in citrus rootstock improvement has enabled rootstock breeding at the tetraploid level via sexual hybridization, which can yield maximum genetic diversity in zygotic progeny upon which to impose selection for the many traits required in improved rootstock cultivars, including disease and insect resistance, broad adaptation, tree size control, and the ability to consistently produce high yields of quality fruit. Recent progress and successful examples of these applications are discussed. Finally, a discussion of the genetic potential of somatic hybrids as breeding parents, including meiotic behavior and inheritance is provided.  相似文献

The anatomy of the graft tissue between a rootstock and its shoot (scion) can provide a mechanistic explanation of the way dwarfing Malus rootstocks reduce shoot growth. Considerable xylem tissue disorganization may result in graft tissue having a low hydraulic conductivity (k(h)), relative to the scion stem. The graft may influence the movement of substances in the xylem such as ions, water and plant-growth-regulating hormones. Measurements were made on 3-year-old apple trees with a low-pressure flow system to determine k(h) of root and scion stem sections incorporating the graft tissue. A range of rootstocks was examined, with different abilities of dwarfing; both ungrafted and grafted with the same scion shoot cultivar. The results showed that the hydraulic conductivity (k(hroot)) of roots from dwarfing rootstocks was lower compared with semi-vigorous rootstocks, at least for the size class of root measured (1.5 mm diameter). Scion hydraulic conductivity (k(hs)) was linked to leaf area and also to the rootstock on to which it was grafted, i.e. hydraulic conductivity was greater for the scion stem on the semi-vigorous rootstock. Expressing conductivities relative to xylem cross-sectional areas (k(s)) did not remove these differences suggesting that there were anatomical changes induced by the rootstock. The calculated hydraulic conductivity of the graft tissue was found to be lower for grafted trees on dwarfing rootstocks compared to invigorating rootstocks. These observations are discussed in relation to the mechanism(s) by which rootstock influences shoot growth in grafted trees.  相似文献

Teleki rootstocks are used in grapevine-producing countries all over the world. They represent one of the largest groups of available rootstocks but their origin is still in dispute although they have been regarded as Vitis berlandieri × V. riparia hybrids. To investigate their possible origin, we amplified and sequenced three chloroplast regions, two non-coding spacers (trnL-F, trnS-G) and the trnL group I intron in a core collection of Teleki rootstocks representing widespread accessions and related wild North American grape species (V. berlandieri, V. riparia and V. rupestris). Concatenated sequence data coupled with microstructural changes discovered in the chloroplast regions provided data to trace the maternal ancestry of the Teleki lines. All chloroplast regions showed both nucleotide and length variation. Length mutations in the non-coding regions represented mostly simple sequence repeats of poly-A and -T stretches. These indel characters exhibited additional diversity comparable with the nucleotide diversity and increased resolution of the phylogenetic trees. We found that a group of Teleki accessions position together with the wild grape species V. riparia. Another group of Teleki rootstocks formed a sister group to the other North American species V. berlandieri. These clades had moderate support values, and they do not share ancestry with other accessions of Teleki rootstocks resolved with high support value in the V. riparia clade. It seems that Teleki-Kober 5BB and 125 AA accessions might have a V. berlandieri maternal background. We also found great differences within putative clones of Teleki 5C and Teleki-Kober 5BB suggesting that the selection of these accessions was performed on heterogenous or mislabeled plant material collectively maintained under these names.  相似文献

If the main effect of long-term exposure of tomato plants to salinity is the accumulation of toxic concentrations of Na+ and Cl in the leaves, then the selection of ‘excluder’ rootstocks should increase tolerance to salinity in grafted tomato plants, independently of the genotype used as the scion. The question addressed in this study is whether shoot genotypes with an ‘excluder’ character are able to increase their salt tolerance when grafted onto rootstocks of the same characteristics. Moneymaker (with excluder character) was grafted onto two root genotypes, Radja and Pera, selected for their very different ability to regulate the transport of saline ions to the shoot over time. Grafting onto either Pera or Radja improved fruit yield compared to the self-grafted plants of Moneymaker (M/M) when the plants were grown at 50 mM NaCl, whereas there was no effect of either rootstock or of grafting per se (M/M) on fruit yield in the absence of or at 25 mM NaCl. The relationship between the salt responses to mid- and long-term depended on the stress level; after 27 d of 150 mM NaCl treatment, both graft combinations enhanced similarly their salt tolerances as did in the long-term experiment. Moreover, the tolerance induced by rootstock was related to the low rates of saline ion accumulation in their leaves. However, the positive effect of rootstock was only observed with rootstock Pera when the grafted plants were grown at 50 mM NaCl (the same salt level used in the long-term experiment) for 35 d. According to the physiological changes induced by rootstock in the leaves, the different salt responses seem to be due to the fact that the osmotic effect predominated on the toxic effect under these last conditions. Consequently, in order to select rootstocks care must be taken in the timing of any selection process: the stress level and length of exposure to salinity must be sufficient for the true differences in salt tolerance for toxicity to be shown. Taken together, these results show the effectiveness of grafting to enhance fruit yield in tomato and provide evidence that the positive effect induced by rootstock is related to the re-establishment of ionic homeostasis.  相似文献

Using 20 SSR markers well scattered across the 19 grape chromosomes, we analyzed 4,370 accessions of the INRA grape repository at Vassal, mostly cultivars of Vitis vinifera subsp. sativa (3,727), but also accessions of V. vinifera subsp. sylvestris (80), interspecific hybrids (364), and rootstocks (199). The analysis revealed 2,836 SSR single profiles: 2,323 sativa cultivars, 72 wild individuals (sylvestris), 306 interspecific hybrids, and 135 rootstocks, corresponding to 2,739 different cultivars in all. A total of 524 alleles were detected, with a mean of 26.20 alleles per locus. For the 2,323 cultivars of V. vinifera, 338 alleles were detected with a mean of 16.9 alleles per locus. The mean genetic diversity (GDI) was 0.797 and the level of heterozygosity was 0.76, with broad variation from 0.20 to 1. Interspecific hybrids and rootstocks were more heterozygous and more diverse (GDI?=?0.839 and 0.865, respectively) than V. vinifera cultivars (GDI?=?0.769), Vitis vinifera subsp. sylvestris being the least divergent with GDI?=?0.708. Principal coordinates analysis distinguished the four groups. Slight clonal polymorphism was detected. The limit between clonal variation and cultivar polymorphism was set at four allelic differences out of 40. SSR markers were useful as a complementary tool to traditional ampelography for cultivar identification. Finally, a set of nine SSR markers was defined that was sufficient to distinguish 99.8% of the analyzed accessions. This set is suitable for routine characterization and will be valuable for germplasm management.  相似文献

Although cultivation of genetic modified (GM) annual crops has been steadily increasing in the recent 10 years, the commercial cultivation of GM fruit tree is still very limited and reports of field trials on GM fruit trees are rare. This is probably because development and evaluation of GM fruit trees require a long period of time due to long life cycles of trees. In this study, we report results from a field trial on three rolB transgenic dwarfing apple rootstocks of M26 and M9 together with non-transgenic controls grafted with five non-transgenic scion cultivars. We intended to investigate the effects of transgenic rootstock on non-transgenic scion cultivars under natural conditions as well as to evaluate the potential value of using the rolB gene to modify difficult-to-root rootstocks of fruit trees. The results showed that all rolB transgenic rootstocks significantly reduced vegetative growth including tree height regardless of scion cultivar, compared with the non-transgenic rootstocks. Flowering and fruiting were also decreased for cultivars grown on the transgenic rootstocks in most cases, but the fruit quality was not clearly affected by the transgenic rootstocks. Cutting experiment and RT-PCR analysis showed that the rolB gene was stably expressed under field conditions. PCR and RT-PCR analyses displayed that the rolB gene or its mRNA were not detectable in the scion cultivars, indicating no translocation of the transgene or its mRNA from rootstock to scion. Our results suggest that rolB modified rootstocks should be used in combination with vigorous scion cultivars in order to obtain sufficient vegetative growth and good yield. Alternatively, the rolB gene could be used to dwarf vigorous rootstocks of fruit trees or produce bonzai plants as it can significantly reduce the vegetative growth of plants.  相似文献

Abstract

The effects of mutual grafting on the cadmium (Cd) accumulation characteristics of two ecotypes (farmland and mining) of the potential Cd-hyperaccumulator Solanum photeinocarpum were studied through a pot experiment for one month. Four treatments were used in the experiment: ungrafted farmland ecotype (F-CK), ungrafted mining ecotype (M-CK), the farmland ecotype as the scion grafted onto rootstocks of the mining ecotype (F-Scion), and the mining ecotype as the scion grafted onto rootstocks of the farmland ecotype (M-Scion). Mutual grafting increased the rootstock biomass of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes. However, mutual grafting decreased the scion biomass of F-Scion compared with F-CK and M-CK, and the scion biomass of M-Scion was higher than that of M-CK and lower than that of F-CK. The Cd content in the rootstock of M-Scion increased compared with F-CK, and the Cd content in the rootstock of F-Scion increased compared with M-CK, but mutual grafting decreased the Cd content in scions of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes. Mutual grafting increased Cd extraction by rootstocks of both S. photeinocarpum ecotypes, but decreased extraction by scions. Therefore, mutual grafting can increase Cd accumulation in S. photeinocarpum rootstocks but not increase Cd accumulation in S. photeinocarpum scions in a short period.  相似文献

Genotypic diversity has been detected among aromatic grapevines (Vitis vinifera) by molecular markers (AFLPs). The 22 primer-pairs generated a total of 1,331 bands of which 564 (40%) were polymorphic over all the genotypes. The bootstrap analysis pointed out that a large number of polymorphic bands (200–400) has to be used for a better estimation of the genetic distances among genotypes; 383 polymorphic AFLP bands were used for the cluster and the principal coordinate analyses because they did not present missing data across all the genotypes. The cluster analysis (UPGMA), based on polymorphic AFLP markers, revealed no relationship between the Moscato and Malvasia grapevines. The Malvasias, unlike the Moscatos distinguished by their distinct muscat aroma, have to be considered a more complex group because it includes muscat and non-muscat grapevines. The principal coordinate analysis (PCO) confirmed the pattern of the cluster analysis only for those varieties which presented a low coefficient of dissimilarity, while for the other varieties there was no correspondence between the two analyses. The pattern of aggregation among aromatic grapevines in the cluster and principal coordinate analyses does not support any classification that might include an aromatic grapevine group in V. vinifera. Even though some synonyms and homonyms are present among aromatic grapevines (V. vinifera), genetic diversity exists among genotypes in AFLP markers.Communicated by H.F. Linskens  相似文献

Summary Citrus somatic hybridization and cybridization via protoplast fusion has become an integral part of citrus variety improvement programs worldwide. Citrus somatic hybrid plants have been regenerated from more than 200 parental combinations, and several cybrid combinations have also been produced. Applications of somatic hybridization to citrus scion improvement include the production of quality tetraploid breeding parents that can be used in interploid crosses to generate seedless triploids, and the direct production of triploids by haploid + diploid fusion. Applications of somatic hybridization to citrus rootstock improvement include the production of allotetraploid hybrids that combine complementary diploid rootstocks, and to combine citrus with sexually incompatible or difficult to hybridize genera that possess traits of interest for germplasm expansion. A few somatic hybrid tetraploid breeding parents have flowered, are fertile, and are being used as pollen parents to generate triploids. Several allotetraploid somatic hybrid rootstocks are performing well in commercial field trials, and show great promise for tree size control. Seed trees of most of these somatic hybrid rootstocks are producing adequate nucellar seed for standard propagation. Somatic hybridization is expected to have a positive impact on citrus cultivar improvement efforts.  相似文献

The main factors regulating grapevine response to decreasing water availability were assessed under statistical support using published data related to leaf water relations in an extensive range of scion and rootstock genotypes. Matching leaf water potential (Ψleaf) and stomatal conductance (gs) data were collected from peer‐reviewed literature with associated information. The resulting database contained 718 data points from 26 different Vitis vinifera varieties investigated as scions, 15 non‐V. vinifera rootstock genotypes and 11 own‐rooted V. vinifera varieties. Linearised data were analysed using the univariate general linear model (GLM) with factorial design including biological (scion and rootstock genotypes), methodological and environmental (soil) fixed factors. The first GLM performed on the whole database explained 82.4% of the variability in data distribution having the rootstock genotype the greatest contribution to variability (19.1%) followed by the scion genotype (16.2%). A classification of scions and rootstocks according to their mean predicted gs in response to moderate water stress was generated. This model also revealed that gs data obtained using a porometer were in average 2.1 times higher than using an infra‐red gas analyser. The effect of soil water‐holding properties was evaluated in a second analysis on a restricted database and showed a scion‐dependant effect, which was dominant over rootstock effect, in predicting gs values. Overall the results suggest that a continuum exists in the range of stomatal sensitivities to water stress in V. vinifera, rather than an isohydric–anisohydric dichotomy, that is further enriched by the diversity of scion‐rootstock combinations and their interaction with different soils.  相似文献

Environmental stresses that perturb plant water relations influence abscisic acid (ABA) concentrations, but it is unclear whether long‐distance ABA transport contributes to changes in local ABA levels. To determine the physiological relevance of ABA transport, we made reciprocal‐ and self‐grafts of ABA‐deficient flacca mutant and wild‐type (WT) tomato plants, in which low phosphorus (P) conditions decreased ABA concentrations while salinity increased ABA concentrations. Whereas foliar ABA concentrations in the WT scions were rootstock independent under conditions, salinity resulted in long‐distance transport of ABA: flacca scions had approximately twice as much ABA when grafted on WT rootstocks compared to flacca rootstocks. Root ABA concentrations were scion dependent: both WT and flacca rootstocks had less ABA with the flacca mutant scion than with the WT scion under conditions. In WT scions, whereas rootstock genotype had limited effects on stomatal conductance under conditions, a flacca rootstock decreased leaf area of stressed plants, presumably due to attenuated root‐to‐shoot ABA transport. In flacca scions, a WT rootstock decreased stomatal conductance but increased leaf area of stressed plants, likely due to enhanced root‐to‐shoot ABA transport. Thus, long‐distance ABA transport can affect responses in distal tissues by changing local ABA concentrations.  相似文献

The identification of carbonised grape pips (Vitis vinifera ssp.) is problematic, and the morphological features generally used to distinguish the wild subspeciesV. vinifera ssp.sylvestris from the cultivated subspeciesV. vinifera ssp.vinifera are not satisfactory. Different biometric studies were carried out on Nabataean and Roman seeds found at Petra, Jordan, dated to 150 B.C. – A.D. 400, and the results were compared to known phytogeographical and climatic data. Depending on the identification method selected, the seeds were attributed either to wild grapevines (based on the ratio of breadth over length, and on discriminant analyses of size variables such as pip length, stalk length, and chalaza position), or to an archaic variety of vine with seeds morphologically close to those of wild grapevines (ratio of stalk length over total pip length). The methods used here were applied to European grape pips; they should be tested on Near Eastern material. Archaeological data did not clarify the situation, and the importance of viticulture, which was prohibited during the Nabataean period, remains difficult to evaluate at Petra.  相似文献

Introduction of the Andean grain chenopod (Chenopodium quinoa) into North America placed this crop within the distributional range of a related wild species,C. berlandieri. This wild species, native to the North American flora, is cross-compatible withC. Quinoa. Isozyme analysis of progeny fromC. berlandieri plants growing within and at the periphery of theC. Quinoa fields, combined with fertility assessment and phenetic comparison among putative hybrids and parental types, indicates that over 30% of progeny from wild plants growing as weeds withC. quinoa in 1987 were crop/weed hybrids. This high incidence of interspecific gene flow from crop to weed appears to be the result of asymmetric pollen flow to free-living plants from high-density cultivated populations. The observed level of crop/weed hybridization, combined with heterosis and partial fertility of F1 crop/weed hybrids, suggests that repeated annual cycles ofC. quinoa cultivation within the North American range ofC. berlandieri could produce introgressive change among sympatric wild populations. In terms of risk assessment for biotechnology, these results suggest that the breeding system may not provide an accurate indication of the potential for genetic interaction among predominately self-pollinating grain crops and their free-living relatives.  相似文献
