The purposes of this study were firstly to determine the relationship between the peak power output (Wpeak) and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) attained during a laboratory cycling test to exhaustion, and secondly to assess the relationship between Wpeak and times in a 20-km cycling trial. One hundred trained cyclists (54 men, 46 women) participated in the first part of this investigation. Each cyclist performed a minimum of one maximal test during which Wmax and VO2max were determined. For the second part of the study 19 cyclists completed a maximal test for the determination of Wpeak, and also a 20-km cycling time trial. Highly significant relationships were obtained between Wpeak and VO2max (r = 0.97, P less than 0.0001) and between Wpeak and 20-km cycle time (r = -0.91, P less than 0.001). Thus, Wpeak explained 94% of the variance in measured VO2max and 82% of the variability in cycle time over 20 km. We concluded that for trained cyclists, the VO2max can be accurately predicted from Wpeak, and that Wpeak is a valid predictor of 20-km cycle time.  相似文献

Effect of carbohydrate feedings during high-intensity exercise   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
To determine the upper limits of steady-state exercise performance and carbohydrate oxidation late in exercise, seven trained men were studied on two occasions during prolonged cycling that alternated every 15 min between approximately 60% and approximately 85% of VO2max. When fed a sweet placebo throughout exercise, plasma glucose and respiratory exchange ratio (R) declined (P less than 0.05) from 5.0 +/- 0.1 mM and 0.91 +/- 0.01 after 30 min (i.e., at 85% VO2max) to 3.7 +/- 0.3 mM and 0.79 +/- 0.01 at fatigue (i.e., when the subjects were unable to continue exercise at 60% VO2max). Carbohydrate feeding throughout exercise (1 g/kg at 10 min, then 0.6 g/kg every 30 min) increased plasma glucose to approximately 6 mM and partially prevented this decline in carbohydrate oxidation, allowing the men to perform 19% more work (2.74 +/- 0.13 vs. 2.29 +/- 0.09 MJ, P less than 0.05) before fatiguing. Even when fed carbohydrate, however, by the 3rd h of exercise, R had fallen from 0.92 to 0.87, accompanied by a reduction in exercise intensity from approximately 85% to approximately 75% VO2max (both P less than 0.05). These data indicate that carbohydrate feedings enable trained cyclists to exercise at up to 75% VO2max and to oxidize carbohydrate at up to 2 g/min during the later stages of prolonged intense exercise.  相似文献

Fourteen competitive cyclists who possessed a similar maximum O2 consumption (VO2 max; range, 4.6-5.0 l/min) were compared regarding blood lactate responses, glycogen usage, and endurance during submaximal exercise. Seven subjects reached their blood lactate threshold (LT) during exercise of a relatively low intensity (group L) (i.e., 65.8 +/- 1.7% VO2 max), whereas exercise of a relatively high intensity was required to elicit LT in the other seven men (group H) (i.e., 81.5 +/- 1.8% VO2 max; P less than 0.001). Time to fatigue during exercise at 88% of VO2 max was more than twofold longer in group H compared with group L (60.8 +/- 3.1 vs. 29.1 +/- 5.0 min; P less than 0.001). Over 92% of the variance in performance was related to the % VO2 max at LT and muscle capillary density. The vastus lateralis muscle of group L was stressed more than that of group H during submaximal cycling (i.e., 79% VO2 max), as reflected by more than a twofold greater (P less than 0.001) rate of glycogen utilization and blood lactate concentration. The quality of the vastus lateralis in groups H and L was similar regarding mitochondrial enzyme activity, whereas group H possessed a greater percentage of type I muscle fibers (66.7 +/- 5.2 vs. 46.9 +/- 3.8; P less than 0.01). The differing metabolic responses to submaximal exercise observed between the two groups appeared to be specific to the leg extension phase of cycling, since the blood lactate responses of the two groups were comparable during uphill running. Repetitive static exercise (RSE) is a repetitive condition of partial ischaemia/reperfusion and may therefore be connected to the formation of oxygen-derived free radicals and tissue damage. Seven subjects performed two-legged intermittent knee extension exercise repeating at 10 s on and 10 s off at a target force corresponding to about 30% of the maximal voluntary contraction force. The RSE was continued for 80 min (n = 4) or to fatigue (n = 3). Four of the subjects also performed submaximal dynamic exercise (DE) at an intensity of about 60% maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) for the same period. Whole body oxygen uptake (VO2) increased gradually with time during RSE (P less than 0.05), indicating a decreased mechanical efficiency. This was further supported by a slow increase in leg blood flow (P less than 0.05) and leg oxygen utilization (n.s.) during RSE. In contrast, prolonged RSE had no effect on VO2 during submaximal cycling. Maximal force (measured in six additional subjects) declined gradually during RSE and was not completely restored after 60 min of recovery. After 20 and 80 min (or at fatigue) RSE phosphocreatine (PC) dropped to 74% and 60% of the initial value, respectively. A similar decrease in PC occurred during DE. Muscle and arterial lactate concentrations remained low during both RSE and DE. The three subjects who were unable to continue RSE for 80 min showed no signs of a more severe energy imbalance than the other subjects. Seven trained male cyclists (VO2max = 4.42 +/- 0.23 l.min-1; weight 71.7 +/- 2.7 kg, mean +/- SE) completed two incremental cycling tests on the cycle ergometer for the estimation of the "individual anaerobic threshold" (IAT). The cyclists completed three more exercises in which the work rate incremented by the same protocol, but upon reaching selected work rates of approximately 40, 60 and 80% VO2max, the subjects cycled for 60 min or until exhaustion. In these constant load studies, blood lactate concentration was determined on arterialized venous ([La-]av) and deep venous blood ([La-]v) of the resting forearm. The av-v lactate gradient across the inactive forearm muscle was -0.08 mmol.l-1 at rest. After 3 min at each of the constant load work rates, the gradients were +0.05, +0.65* and +1.60* mmol.l-1 (*P less than 0.05). The gradients after 10 min at these same work rates were -0.09, +0.24 and +1.03* mmol.l-1. For the two highest work rates taken together, the lactate gradient was less at 10 min than 3 min constant load exercise (P less than 0.05). The [La-]av was consistently higher during prolonged exercise at both 60 and 80% VO2max than that observed at the same work rate during progressive exercise. At the highest work rate (at or above the IAT), time to exhaustion ranged from 3 to 36 min in the different subjects. These data showed that [La-] uptake across resting muscle continued to increase to work rates above the IAT. Further, the greater av-v lactate gradient at 3 min than 10 min constant load exercise supports the concept that inactive muscle might act as a passive sink for lactate in addition to a metabolic site.  相似文献

In an effort to determine the effects of carbohydrate (CHO) feedings immediately before exercise in both the fasted and fed state, 10 well-trained male cyclists [maximum O2 consumption (VO2 max), 4.35 +/- 0.11 l/min)] performed 45 min of cycling at 77% VO2 max followed by a 15-min performance ride on an isokinetic cycle ergometer. After a 12-h fast, subjects ingested 45 g of liquid carbohydrate (LCHO), solid carbohydrate confectionery bar (SCHO), or placebo (P) 5 min before exercise. An additional trial was performed in which a high-CHO meal (200 g) taken 4 h before exercise was combined with a confectionery bar feeding (M + SCHO) immediately before the activity. At 10 min of exercise, serum glucose values were elevated by 18 and 24% during SCHO and LCHO, respectively, compared with P. At 0 and 45 min no significant differences were observed in muscle glycogen concentration or total use between the four trials. Total work produced during the final 15 min of exercise was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) during M + SCHO (194,735 +/- 9,448 N X m), compared with all other trials and significantly greater (P less than 0.05) during LCHO and SCHO (175,204 +/- 11,780 and 176,013 +/- 10,465 N X m, respectively) than trial P (159,143 +/- 11,407 N X m). These results suggest that, under conditions when CHO stores are less than optimal, exercise performance is enhanced with the ingestion of 45 g of CHO 5 min before 1 h of intense cycling.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

To determine the effect of posture on maximal O2 uptake (VO2 max) and other cardiorespiratory adaptations to exercise training, 16 male subjects were trained using high-intensity interval and prolonged continuous cycling in either the supine or upright posture 40 min/day 4 days/wk for 8 wk and 7 male subjects served as non-training controls. VO2 max measured during upright cycling and supine cycling, respectively, increased significantly (P less than 0.05) by 16.1 +/- 3.4 and 22.9 +/- 3.4% in the supine training group (STG) and by 14.6 +/- 2.0 and 6.0 +/- 2.0% in the upright training group (UTG). The increase in VO2 max measured during supine cycling was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) in the STG than in the UTG. The increase in VO2 max in the UTG was significantly greater (P less than 0.05) when measured during upright exercise than during supine exercise. However, there was no significant difference in posture-specific VO2 max adaptations in the STG. A postural specificity was also evident in other maximal cardiorespiratory variables (ventilation, CO2 production, and respiratory exchange ratio). In the UTG, maximal heart rate decreased significantly (P less than 0.05) only during supine cycling; there was no significant difference in maximal heart rate after training in the STG. We conclude that posture affects maximal cardiorespiratory adaptations to cycle training. Additionally, supine training is more effective than upright training in increasing maximal cardiorespiratory responses measured during supine exercise, and the effects of supine training generalize to the upright posture to a greater extent than the effects of upright training generalize to the supine posture.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The purpose of our investigation was to analyse the breathing patterns of professional cyclists during incremental exercise from submaximal to maximal intensities. A group of 11 elite amateur male road cyclists [E, mean age 23 (SD 2) years, peak oxygen uptake (VO2peak) 73.8 (SD 5.0) ml kg(-1) min(-1)] and 14 professional male road cyclists [P, mean age 26 (SD 2) years, (VO2peak) 73.2 (SD 6.6) ml kg(-1) min(-1)] participated in this study. Each of the subjects performed an exercise test on a cycle ergometer following a ramp protocol (exercise intensity increases of 25 W x min(-1)) until the subject was exhausted. For each subject, the following parameters were recorded during the tests: oxygen consumption (VO2), carbon dioxide output (VCO2), pulmonary ventilation (VE), tidal volume (VT), breathing frequency (fb), ventilatory equivalents for oxygen (VE x VO2(-1)) and carbon dioxide (VE x VCO2(-1)), end-tidal partial pressure of oxygen and partial pressure of carbon dioxide, inspiratory (tI) and expiratory (tE) times, inspiratory duty cycle (tI/tTOT, where tTOT is the time for one respiratory cycle), and mean inspiratory flow rate (VT/tI). Mean values of VE were significantly higher in E at 300, 350 and 400 W (P < 0.05, P < 0.05 and P < 0.01, respectively); fb was also higher in E in most moderate-to-maximal intensities. On the other hand, VT showed a different pattern in both groups at near-to maximal intensities, since no plateau was observed in P. The response of tI and tE was also different. Finally, VT/tI and tI/tTOT showed a similar response in both P and E. It was concluded that the breathing pattern of the two groups differed mainly in two aspects: in the professional cyclists, VE increased at any exercise intensity as a result of increases in both VT and fb, with no evidence of tachypnoeic shift, and tE was prolonged in this group at high exercise intensities. In contrast, neither the central drive nor the timing component of respiration seem to have been significantly altered by the training demands of professional cycling.  相似文献

Intestinal absorption was measured in six trained male cyclists during rest, exercise, and recovery periods with the segmental perfusion technique. Each subject passed a multilumen tube into the duodenojejunum. The experiments consisted of 1) a sequence of 1-h bouts of cycling exercise at 30, 50, and 70% maximal O2 uptake (Vo2max) separated by 1-h rest periods or 2) a 90-min bout at 70% VO2max. The cycling was performed on a constant-load Velodyne trainer. Absorption of water and a 6% carbohydrate-electrolyte (2% glucose, 6% sucrose, 20 meq Na+, 2.6 meq K+) solution (both perfused at 15 ml/min) were compared. The effects of perfusing an isotonic electrolyte solution during mild (30% VO2max) exercise were also studied. Fluid was sampled every 10 min from ports 10 and 50 cm distal to the infusion site. Water flux was determined by differences in polyethylene glycol concentration across the 40-cm test segment. Results showed 1) no difference in water or electrolyte absorption rates among rest, exercise, and recovery periods; 2) no difference in absorption rates among the three exercise intensities or different exercise durations; and 3) significantly greater fluid absorption rates from the carbohydrate-electrolyte (CE) solution than from water. Water flux during rest, exercise, and recovery was about sixfold greater from the CE solution than from the isotonic solution without carbohydrate. We conclude that 1) exercise has no effect on water or solute absorption in the duodenojejunum, 2) fluid absorption occurs significantly faster from a CE solution than from water, and 3) fluid absorption is increased sixfold by addition of carbohydrate to an electrolyte solution.  相似文献

O2 uptake (VO2) kinetics and electromyographic (EMG) activity from the vastus medialis, rectus femoris, biceps femoris, and medial gastrocnemius muscles were studied during constant-load concentric and eccentric cycling. Six healthy men performed transitions from baseline to high-intensity eccentric (HE) exercise and to high-intensity (HC), moderate-intensity (MC), and low-intensity (LC) concentric exercise. For HE and HC exercise, absolute work rate was equivalent. For HE and LC exercise, VO2 was equivalent. VO2 data were fit by a two- or three-component exponential model. Surface EMG was recorded during the last 12 s of each minute of exercise to obtain integrated EMG and mean power frequency. Only in the HC exercise did VO2 increase progressively with evidence of a slow component (phase 3), and only in HC exercise was there evidence of a coincident increase with time in integrated EMG of the vastus medialis and rectus femoris muscles (P < 0.05) with no change in mean power frequency. The phase 2 time constant was slower in HC [24.0 +/- 1.7 (SE) s] than in HE (14.7 +/- 2.8 s) and LC (16.7 +/- 2.2 s) exercise, while it was not different from MC exercise (20.6 +/- 2.1 s). These results show that the rate of increase in VO2 at the onset of exercise was not different between HE and LC exercise, where the metabolic demand was similar, but both had significantly faster kinetics for VO2 than HC exercise. The VO2 slow component might be related to increased muscle activation, which is a function of metabolic demand and not absolute work rate.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the influence of pedalling rate on cycling efficiency in road cyclists. Seven competitive road cyclists participated in the study. Four separate experimental sessions were used to determine oxygen uptake (VO(2)) and carbon dioxide output (VCO(2)) at six exercise intensities that elicited a VO(2) equivalent to 54, 63, 73, 80, 87 and 93% of maximum VO(2) (VO(2max)). Exercise intensities were administered in random order, separated by rest periods of 3-5 min; four pedalling frequencies (60, 80, 100 and 120 rpm) were randomly tested per intensity. The oxygen cost of cycling was always lower when the exercise was performed at 60 rpm. At each exercise intensity, VO(2) showed a parabolic dependence on pedalling rate (r = 0.99-1, all P < 0.01) with a curvature that flattened as intensity increased. Likewise, the relationship between power output and gross efficiency (GE) was also best fitted to a parabola (r = 0.94-1, all P < 0.05). Regardless of pedalling rate, GE improved with increasing exercise intensity (P < 0.001). Conversely, GE worsened with pedalling rate (P < 0.001). Interestingly, the effect of pedalling cadence on GE decreased as a linear function of power output (r = 0.98, n = 6, P < 0.001). Similar delta efficiency (DE) values were obtained regardless of pedalling rate [21.5 (0.8), 22.3 (1.2), 22.6 (0.6) and 23.9 (1.0)%, for the 60, 80, 100 and 120 rpm, mean (SEM) respectively]. However, in contrast to GE, DE increased as a linear function of pedalling rate (r = 0.98, P < 0.05). The rate at which pulmonary ventilation increased was accentuated for the highest pedalling rate (P < 0.05), even after accounting for differences in exercise intensity and VO(2) (P < 0.05). Pedalling rate per se did not have any influence on heart rate which, in turn, increased linearly with VO(2). These results may help us to understand why competitive cyclists often pedal at cadences of 90-105 rpm to sustain a high power output during prolonged exercise.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of ingesting fluids of varying carbohydrate content upon sensory response, physiologic function, and exercise performance during 1.25 h of intermittent cycling in a warm environment (Tdb = 33.4 degrees C). Twelve subjects (7 male, 5 female) completed four separate exercise sessions; each session consisted of three 20 min bouts of cycling at 65% VO2max, with each bout followed by 5 min rest. A timed cycling task (1200 pedal revolutions) completed each exercise session. Immediately prior to the first 20 min cycling bout and during each rest period, subjects consumed 2.5 ml.kg BW-1 of water placebo (WP), or solutions of 6%, 8%, or 10% sucrose with electrolytes (20 mmol.l-1 Na+, 3.2 mmol.l-1 K+). Beverages were administered in double blind, counterbalanced order. Mean (+/- SE) times for the 1200 cycling task differed significantly: WP = 13.62 +/- 0.33 min, *6% = 13.03 +/- 0.24 min, 8% = 13.30 +/- 0.25 min, 10% = 13.57 +/- 0.22 min (* = different from WP and 10%, P less than 0.05). Compared to WP, ingestion of the CHO beverages resulted in higher plasma glucose and insulin concentrations, and higher RER values during the final 20 min of exercise (P less than 0.05). Markers of physiologic function and sensory perception changed similarly throughout exercise; no differences were observed among subjects in response to beverage treatments for changes in plasma concentrations of lactate, sodium, potassium, for changes in plasma volume, plasma osmolality, rectal temperature, heart rate, oxygen uptake, rating of perceived exertion, or for indices of gastrointestinal distress, perceived thirst, and overall beverage acceptance.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

This study examined the effects of altered dietary intakes on amino acid and ammonia (NH3) responses prior to and during prolonged exercise in humans. Six male recreational cyclists rode to exhaustion at 75% of VO2max following 3 days on a low carbohydrate (LC), mixed (M), or high carbohydrate (HC) diet in a latin square design. There were differences (p less than 0.05) in exercise times among all treatments (58.8 +/- 3.7, 112.1 +/- 7.3, and 152.9 +/- 10.3 min for the LC, M, and HC treatments, respectively). The rate of increase in plasma NH3 during exercise was greater (p less than 0.05) during the LC trial. The LC trial was also characterized by higher (p less than 0.05) resting plasma concentrations of branched chain amino acids (BCAA) and a greater decrease in these amino acids during exercise (p less than 0.05), as compared with the other two treatments. Both plasma BCAA and NH3 were susceptible to dietary manipulations. These findings suggest that limited carbohydrate availability in association with increased BCAA availability results in enhanced BCAA metabolism during exercise. This is reflected in a greater rate of increase in plasma NH3 and is consistent with the hypothesis that a significant fraction of the NH3 released during a prolonged, submaximal exercise bout is from amino acid catabolism.  相似文献

Vastus lateralis intramyocellular lipid (IMCL) content was assessed by (1)H-magnetic resonance spectroscopy before and after prolonged time trial cycling bouts of approximately 3-h duration. Six highly trained male cyclists completed a double-blind, randomized, crossover design of two experimental trials after a strenuous exercise bout and 48 h of high (HC) (9.32 +/- 0.08 g. kg(-1). day(-1)) and low (LC) (0.59 +/- 0.21 g. kg(-1). day(-1)) dietary carbohydrate. Resting IMCL content was significantly higher after LC vs. HC (P < 0.01) and was reduced during exercise by 64 and 57%, respectively. IMCL was not different between conditions after exercise (P > 0.05). The approximately twofold increase in IMCL degradation in LC compared with HC suggests that higher rates of whole body lipid metabolism in LC were in part attributable to a greater IMCL utilization. Four subjects experienced reductions of IMCL in excess of 70% during exercise. To our knowledge, this is the first study to report near depletion of IMCL during prolonged cycling, indicating that IMCL, presumably the triacylglycerol component, may be exhausted by prolonged strenuous exercise.  相似文献

Despite many reports of long-lasting elevation of metabolism after exercise, little is known regarding the effects of exercise intensity and duration on this phenomenon. This study examined the effect of a constant duration (30 min) of cycle ergometer exercise at varied intensity levels [50 and 70% of maximal O2 consumption (VO2max)] on 3-h recovery of oxygen uptake (VO2). VO2 and respiratory exchange ratios were measured by open-circuit spirometry in five trained female cyclists (age 25 +/- 1.7 yr) and five untrained females (age 27 +/- 0.8 yr). Postexercise VO2 measured at intervals for 3 h after exercise was greater (P less than 0.01) after exercise at 50% VO2max in trained (0.40 +/- 0.01 l/min) and untrained subjects (0.39 +/- 0.01 l/min) than after 70% VO2max in (0.31 +/- 0.02 l/min) and untrained subjects (0.29 +/- 0.02 l/min). The lower respiratory exchange ratio values (P less than 0.01) after 50% VO2max in trained (0.78 +/- 0.01) and untrained subjects (0.80 +/- 0.01) compared with 70% VO2max in trained (0.81 +/- 0.01) and untrained subjects (0.83 +/- 0.01) suggest that an increase in fat metabolism may be implicated in the long-term elevation of metabolism after exercise. This was supported by the greater estimated fatty acid oxidation (P less than 0.05) after 50% VO2max in trained (147 +/- 4 mg/min) and untrained subjects (133 +/- 9 mg/min) compared with 70% VO2max in trained (101 +/- 6 mg/min) and untrained subjects (85 +/- 7 mg/min).  相似文献

The intention of this study was to determine the metabolic consequences of reduced frequency breathing (RFB) at total lung capacity (TLC) in competitive cyclists during submaximal exercise at moderate altitude (1520 m; barometric pressure, PB = 84.6 kPa; 635 mm Hg). Nine trained males performed an RFB exercise test (10 breaths.min-1) and a normal breathing exercise test at 75-85% of the ventilatory threshold intensity for 6 min on separate days. RFB exercise induced significant (P less than 0.05) decreases in ventilation (VE), carbon dioxide production (VCO2), respiratory exchange ratio (RER), ventilatory equivalent for O2 consumption (VE/VO2), arterial O2 saturation and increases in heart rate and venous lactate concentration, while maintaining a similar O2 consumption (VO2). During recovery from RFB exercise (spontaneous breathing) a significant (P less than 0.05) decreases in blood pH was detected along with increases in VE, VO2, VCO2, RER, and venous partial pressure of carbon dioxide. The results indicate that voluntary hypoventilation at TLC, during submaximal cycling exercise at moderate altitude, elicits systemic hypercapnia, arterial hypoxemia, tissue hypoxia and acidosis. These data suggest that RFB exercise at moderate altitude causes an increase in energy production from glycolytic pathways above that which occurs with normal breathing.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of severe acute hypoxia on exercise performance and metabolism during 30-s Wingate tests. Five endurance- (E) and five sprint- (S) trained track cyclists from the Spanish National Team performed 30-s Wingate tests in normoxia and hypoxia (inspired O(2) fraction = 0.10). Oxygen deficit was estimated from submaximal cycling economy tests by use of a nonlinear model. E cyclists showed higher maximal O(2) uptake than S (72 +/- 1 and 62 +/- 2 ml x kg(-1) x min(-1), P < 0.05). S cyclists achieved higher peak and mean power output, and 33% larger oxygen deficit than E (P < 0.05). During the Wingate test in normoxia, S relied more on anaerobic energy sources than E (P < 0.05); however, S showed a larger fatigue index in both conditions (P < 0.05). Compared with normoxia, hypoxia lowered O(2) uptake by 16% in E and S (P < 0.05). Peak power output, fatigue index, and exercise femoral vein blood lactate concentration were not altered by hypoxia in any group. Endurance cyclists, unlike S, maintained their mean power output in hypoxia by increasing their anaerobic energy production, as shown by 7% greater oxygen deficit and 11% higher postexercise lactate concentration. Stretching has been implemented as part of the warm-up before physical events and widely thought to promote increased sport performance and decreased injury risk. However, recent research has concluded that static stretching before many exercises inhibits acute power, strength, and sprinting performance. There is little research examining the time course of these effects on moderate intensity cycling. The purpose of this study was to examine the time course of static stretching on cycling economy. The subjects consisted of 5 men and 5 women highly trained endurance cyclists. The first of 3 visits was baseline testing of their cycling VO2max. The second and third visits were either stretching or no stretching before a 30-minute stationary ride at 65% of their VO2max. The stretching condition consisted of four 30-second repetitions of 5 stretches with an average total stretching time of 16 minutes. VO2 demonstrated a significant condition by time interaction with the 5-minute time point being significantly less in the nonstretching condition (32.66 ± 5.35 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)) than stretching (34.39 ± 5.39 ml·kg(-1)·min(-1)). No other time points were different. Our results demonstrate that static stretching yielded an acute increase in submaximal VO2; therefore, coaches and highly trained endurance cyclists should exclude static stretching immediately before moderate intensity cycling because it reduces acute cycling economy.  相似文献

We determined the effect of 20 nights of live high, train low (LHTL) hypoxic exposure on lactate kinetics, monocarboxylate lactate transporter proteins (MCT1 and MCT4), and muscle in vitro buffering capacity (betam) in 29 well-trained cyclists and triathletes. Subjects were divided into one of three groups: 20 consecutive nights of hypoxic exposure (LHTLc), 20 nights of intermittent hypoxic exposure [four 5-night blocks of hypoxia, each interspersed with 2 nights of normoxia (LHTLi)], or control (Con). Rates of lactate appearance (Ra), disappearance (Rd), and oxidation (Rox) were determined from a primed, continuous infusion of l-[U-14C]lactic acid tracer during 90 min of steady-state exercise [60 min at 65% peak O2 uptake (VO(2 peak)) followed by 30 min at 85% VO(2 peak)]. A resting muscle biopsy was taken before and after 20 nights of LHTL for the determination of betam and MCT1 and MCT4 protein abundance. Ra during the first 60 min of exercise was not different between groups. During the last 25 min of exercise at 85% VO(2 peak), Ra was higher compared with exercise at 65% of VO(2 peak) and was decreased in LHTLc (P < 0.05) compared with the other groups. Rd followed a similar pattern to Ra. Although Rox was significantly increased during exercise at 85% compared with 65% of VO(2 peak), there were no differences between the three groups or across trials. There was no effect of hypoxic exposure on betam or MCT1 and MCT4 protein abundance. We conclude that 20 consecutive nights of hypoxia exposure decreased whole body Ra during intense exercise in well-trained athletes. However, muscle markers of lactate metabolism and pH regulation were unchanged by the LHTL intervention.  相似文献

The purpose of these experiments was to examine the influence of various fluid replacement drinks on exercise-induced disturbances in homeostasis during heavy exercise. Nine trained cyclists performed constant load exercise on a cycle ergometer to fatigue on three occasions with 1-week separating experiments. The work rate was set initially at approximately 85% of VO2max (range 82-88%) with fatigue being defined as a 10% decline in power output below the initial value. During each experiment subjects consumed one of the following three beverages prior to and every 15 min during exercise: (1) non-electrolyte placebo (NEP; 31 mosmol.kg-1); (2) glucose polymer drink containing electrolytes (GP; 7% CHO, 231 mosmol.kg-1), and (3) electrolyte placebo drink without carbohydrate (EP; 48 mosmol.kg-1). Both the GP and EP beverage contained sodium citrate/citric acid (C) as a flavoring agent while C was not contained in the NEP drink. Although seven of nine subjects worked longer during the GP and EP treatment when compared with the NEP trial, the difference was not significant (P greater than 0.05). No differences (P greater than 0.05) existed between the GP and EP treatments in performance time. Exercise changes in rectal temperature, heart rate, delta % plasma volume and plasma concentrations of total protein, free fatty acids, glucose, lactate, potassium, chloride, calcium, and sodium did not differ (P greater than 0.05) between trials.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献
