Endocrine and thermoregulatory responses were studied in male rats exposed to heat (32.5 +/- 0.1 degrees C) from acclimation temperatures of either 24.5 +/- 0.1 degrees C or 29.2 +/- 0.1 degrees C. After 1 hr in the heat, evaporative water loss and tail skin temperature changes in the 24.5 degrees C acclimated rats were greater than in the 29.2 degrees C acclimated rats; both groups displayed similar changes in metabolic rate and rectal temperature. At the respective acclimation temperatures, 29.2 degrees C rats displayed lowered plasma thyroid hormones, elevated beta-endorphin-like immunoreactivity (beta-END-LI) in the plasma, neurointermediate and anterior lobes of the pituitary gland, and no change in plasma corticosterone levels compared to 24.5 degrees C rats. After exposure to 32.5 degrees C for 1 hr, both groups of rats maintained similar plasma corticosterone levels; however, only the 24.5 degrees C group increased plasma thyroxine and beta-END-LI. These data suggest that beta-endorphin may be involved in body temperature regulation during acclimation to elevated environmental temperatures.  相似文献

Several types of cold adaptation in men have been described in the literature (metabolic, insulative, hypothermic). The aim of this study is to show that the decrease of heat debt can be considered as a new index for cold adaptation. Ten male subjects were acclimated by water immersions (temperature 10-15 degrees C, 4 immersions/wk over 2 mo). Thermoregulatory responses before and after acclimation were tested by a standard cold test in a climatic chamber for 2 h at rest [dry bulb temperature (Tdb): 10 degrees C; relative humidity (rh): 25%]. After adaptation, four thermoregulatory modifications were observed: an increase in the delay for the onset of shivering (32.7 +/- 7.99 instead of 14.1 +/- 5.25 min); a decrease of body temperature levels for the onset of shivering [rectal temperature (Tre): 37.06 +/- 0.08 instead of 37.31 +/- 0.06 degrees C; mean skin temperature (Tsk): 24.83 +/- 0.56 instead of 26.86 +/- 0.46 degrees C; mean body temperature (Tb): 33.03 +/- 0.20 instead of 34.16 +/- 0.37 degrees C); a lower level of body temperatures in thermoneutrality (Tre = 37.16 +/- 0.08 instead of 37.39 +/- 0.06 degrees C; Tsk = 31.29 +/- 0.21 instead of 32.01 +/- 0.22 degrees C; Tb = 35.92 +/- 0.08 instead of 36.22 +/- 0.05 degrees C); a decrease of heat debt calculated from the difference between heat gains and heat losses (5.66 +/- 0.08 instead of 8.33 +/- 0.38 kJ/kg). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the sweat loss response during short-term heat acclimation in tropical natives. Six healthy young male subjects, inhabitants of a tropical region, were heat acclimated by means of nine days of one-hour heat-exercise treatments (40+/-0 degrees C and 32+/-1% relative humidity; 50% (.)VO(2peak) on a cycle ergometer). On days 1 to 9 of heat acclimation whole-body sweat loss was calculated by body weight variation corrected for body surface area. On days 1 and 9 rectal temperature (T(re)) and heart rate (HR) were measured continuously, and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) every 4 minutes. Heat acclimation was confirmed by reduced HR (day 1 rest: 77+/-5 b.min(-1); day 9 rest: 68+/-3 b.min(-1); day 1 final exercise: 161+/-15 b.min(-1); day 9 final exercise: 145+/-11 b.min(-1), p<0.05), RPE (13 vs. 11, p<0.05) and T(re) (day 1 rest: 37.2+/-0.2 degrees C; day 9 rest: 37.0+/-0.2 degrees C; day 1 final exercise: 38.2+/-0.2 degrees C; day 9 final exercise: 37.9+/-0.1 degrees C, p<0.05). The main finding was that whole-body sweat loss increased in days 5 and 7 (9.49+/-1.84 and 9.56+/-1.86 g.m(-2).min(-1), respectively) compared to day 1 (8.31+/-1.31 g.m(-2).min(-1), p<0.05) and was not different in day 9 (8.48+/-1.02 g.m(-2).min(-1)) compared to day 1 (p>0.05) of the protocol. These findings are consistent with the heat acclimation induced adaptations and suggest a biphasic sweat response (an increase in the sweat rate in the middle of the protocol followed by return to initial values by the end of it) during short-term heat acclimation in tropical natives.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of acute dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) ingestion on serum steroid hormones and the effect of chronic DHEA intake on the adaptations to resistance training. In 10 young men (23 +/- 4 yr old), ingestion of 50 mg of DHEA increased serum androstenedione concentrations 150% within 60 min (P < 0.05) but did not affect serum testosterone and estrogen concentrations. An additional 19 men (23 +/- 1 yr old) participated in an 8-wk whole body resistance-training program and ingested DHEA (150 mg/day, n = 9) or placebo (n = 10) during weeks 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, and 8. Serum androstenedione concentrations were significantly (P < 0.05) increased in the DHEA-treated group after 2 and 5 wk. Serum concentrations of free and total testosterone, estrone, estradiol, estriol, lipids, and liver transaminases were unaffected by supplementation and training, while strength and lean body mass increased significantly and similarly (P < 0.05) in the men treated with placebo and DHEA. These results suggest that DHEA ingestion does not enhance serum testosterone concentrations or adaptations associated with resistance training in young men.  相似文献

It has been reported that scores from a temperate-environment step test describe the heat-tolerance status of prior heatstroke patients (HP). This investigation evaluated the ability of this temperate-environment heat-tolerance test (HTT) to indicate altered heart rate (HR) and rectal temperature (Tre) responses of HP, after 7 days of heat acclimation. On day 1, ten male HP (61 +/- 7 days post-heatstroke) and five control subjects (C) bench-stepped (0.30 m high, 27 steps.min-1) for 15 min (25.8 degrees C dry bulb, 16.2 degrees C wet bulb). On days 2-8, subjects underwent heat acclimation (40.1 degrees C dry bulb, 23.8 degrees C wet bulb; treadmill, 90 min.day-1). Heat acclimation resulted in significant decreases in final HR (152 +/- 5 vs 130 +/- 3 beats.min-1, P less than 0.025) and final Tre (38.62 +/- 0.11 vs 38.13 +/- 0.07 degrees C, p less than 0.01) in HP. One HP but no C was defined heat intolerant, exhibiting inability to adapt to daily exercise in the heat. On day 9, HP repeated HTT, exactly as performed on day 1; mean group HTT scores did not change (day 1 = 39 +/- 6; day 9 = 48 +/- 6, P greater than 0.05). All physical characteristics and physiological responses of HP (days 1, 2, 7, 9) were statistically similar (P greater than 0.05) to those of C. The purpose was to test the hypothesis that twice daily, short-term, variable intensity isotonic and intermittent high-intensity isokinetic leg exercise would maintain peak O2 uptake (VO2) and muscular strength and endurance, respectively, at or near ambulatory control levels during 30 days of -6 degrees head-down bed rest (BR) deconditioning. Nineteen men (aged 32-42 yr) were divided into no exercise control (peak VO2 once/wk, n = 5), isokinetic (Lido ergometer, n = 7), and isotonic (Quinton ergometer, n = 7) groups. Exercise training was conducted in the supine position for two 30-min periods/day for 5 days/wk. Isotonic training was at 60-90% of peak VO2, and isokinetic training (knee flexion-extension) was at 100 degrees/s. Mean (+/- SE) changes (P less than 0.05) in peak VO2 (ml.m-1.kg-1) from ambulatory control to BR day 28 were 44 +/- 4 to 36 +/- 3, -18.2% (3.27-2.60 l/m) for no exercise, 39 +/- 4 to 40 +/- 3, +2.6% (3.13-3.14 l/min) for isotonic, and 44 +/- 3 to 40 +/- 2, -9.1% (3.24-2.90 l/min) for isokinetic. There were no significant changes in any groups in leg peak torque (right knee flexion or extension), leg mean total work, arm total peak torque, or arm mean total work. Mean energy costs for the isotonic and isokinetic exercise training were 446 kcal/h (18.8 +/- 1.6 ml.min-1.kg-1) and 214 kcal/h (8.9 +/- 0.5 ml.m-1.kg-1), respectively. Thus near-peak, variable intensity, isotonic leg exercise maintains peak VO2 during 30 days of BR, while this peak, intermittent, isokinetic leg exercise protocol does not.  相似文献

This study determined the effects of endurance or resistance exercise training on maximal O2 consumption (VO2max) and the cardiovascular responses to exercise of 70- to 79-yr-old men and women. Healthy untrained subjects were randomly assigned to a control group (n = 12) or to an endurance (n = 16) or resistance training group (n = 19). Training consisted of three sessions per week for 26 wk. Resistance training consisted of one set of 8-12 repetitions on 10 Nautilus machines. Endurance training consisted of 40 min at 50-70% VO2max and at 75-85% VO2max for the first and last 13 wk of training, respectively. The endurance training group increased its VO2max by 16% during the first 13 wk of training and by a total of 22% after 26 wk of training; this group also increased its maximal O2 pulse, systolic blood pressure, and ventilation, and decreased its heart rate and perceived exertion during submaximal exercise. The resistance training group did not elicit significant changes in VO2max or in other maximal or submaximal cardiovascular responses despite eliciting 9 and 18% increases in lower and upper body strength, respectively. Thus healthy men and women in their 70s can respond to prolonged endurance exercise training with adaptations similar to those of younger individuals. Resistance training in older individuals has no effect on cardiovascular responses to submaximal or maximal treadmill exercise.  相似文献

Sweating responses were examined in five horses during a standardized exercise test (SET) in hot conditions (32-34 degrees C, 45-55% relative humidity) during 8 wk of exercise training (5 days/wk) in moderate conditions (19-21 degrees C, 45-55% relative humidity). SETs consisting of 7 km at 50% maximal O(2) consumption, determined 1 wk before training day (TD) 0, were completed on a treadmill set at a 6 degrees incline on TD0, 14, 28, 42, and 56. Mean maximal O(2) consumption, measured 2 days before each SET, increased 19% [TD0 to 42: 135 +/- 5 (SE) to 161 +/- 4 ml. kg(-1). min(-1)]. Peak sweating rate (SR) during exercise increased on TD14, 28, 42, and 56 compared with TD0, whereas SRs and sweat losses in recovery decreased by TD28. By TD56, end-exercise rectal and pulmonary artery temperature decreased by 0.9 +/- 0.1 and 1.2 +/- 0.1 degrees C, respectively, and mean change in body mass during the SET decreased by 23% (TD0: 10.1 +/- 0.9; TD56: 7.7 +/- 0.3 kg). Sweat Na(+) concentration during exercise decreased, whereas sweat K(+) concentration increased, and values for Cl(-) concentration in sweat were unchanged. Moderate-intensity training in cool conditions resulted in a 1.6-fold increase in sweating sensitivity evident by 4 wk and a 0.7 +/- 0.1 degrees C decrease in sweating threshold after 8 wk during exercise in hot, dry conditions. Altered sweating responses contributed to improved heat dissipation during exercise and a lower end-exercise core temperature. Despite higher SRs for a given core temperature during exercise, decreases in recovery SRs result in an overall reduction in sweat fluid losses but no change in total sweat ion losses after training.  相似文献

In situations where the accumulation of internal heat limits physical performance, enhanced heat extraction from the body should improve performance capacity. The combined application of local subatmospheric pressure (35-45 mmHg) to an entire hand (to increase blood volume) and a heat sink (18-22 degrees C) to the palmar surface were used to draw heat out of the circulating blood. Subjects walked uphill (5.63 km/h) on a treadmill in a 40 degree C environment. Slopes of the treadmill were held constant during paired experimental trials (with and without the device). Heat extraction attenuated the rate of esophageal temperature rise during exercise (2.1 +/- 0.4 degrees and 2.9 +/- 0.5 degrees C/h, mean +/- SE, with and without the device, respectively; n = 8) and increased exercise duration (46.1 +/- 3.4 and 32.3 +/- 1.7 min with and without the device, respectively; n = 18). Hand cooling alone had little effect on exercise duration (34.1 +/- 3.0, 38.0 +/- 3.5, and 57.0 +/- 6.4 min, for control, cooling only, and cooling, and subatmospheric pressure, respectively; n = 6). In a longer term study, nine subjects participated in two or four trials per week for 8 wk. The individual workloads (treadmill slope) were varied weekly. Use of the device had a beneficial effect on exercise endurance at all workloads, but the benefit proportionally decreased at higher workloads. It is concluded that heat can be efficiently removed from the body by using the described technology and that such treatment can provide a substantial performance benefit in thermally stressful conditions.  相似文献

Since human thermoregulation at rest is altered by cold exposure, it was hypothesized that physical training under cold conditions would alter thermoregulation. Three groups (n = 8) of male subjects (mean age 24.3 +/- 0.9 years) were evaluated: group T (interval training at 21 degrees C), group CT (interval training at 1 degrees C), and group C (no training, equivalent exposure to 1 degrees C). Each group was submitted, before and after 4 weeks of interval training (5 d/week), to a cold air test at rest (SCAT) (dry bulb temperature (Tdb) = 1 degrees C) for a 2-h period for evaluation of the thermoregulatory responses. During SCAT, after the training/acclimation period, group T exhibited a higher rectal temperature (Tre) (P < 0.05) without significant change in mean skin temperature (Tsk) whereas metabolic heat production (M) was higher at the beginning of the SCAT (P < 0.05). For group CT, no thermoregulatory change was observed. Group C showed a lower Tre (P < 0.05) without significant change in either Tsk or in M, suggesting the development of a hypothermic general cold adaptation. This study showed, first, that the cold thermoregulatory responses induced by an interval training differed following the climatic conditions of the training and, second, that this training performed in the cold prevented the development of a general cold adaptation.  相似文献

Three adult male patas monkeys (11-15 kg) were heat acclimated by continuous exposure to an ambient temperature of 33 +/- 1 degree C at 13% relative humidity for 9 mo. During the last month, they were also exposed to 45 degrees C at 10% relative humidity for 4 h/day and 5 days/wk. Before and after 3 wk of acclimation, the animals were given a heat-tolerance test in which rectal (Tre) and mean skin (Tsk) temperatures, heart rate, and sweat rate (msw) were monitored during a 90-min exposure to 45 degrees C heat with 24% relative humidity under lenperone (1.0-1.4 mg/kg im) tranquilization. Maximal in vivo msw was also determined in response to subcutaneous injections (1 and 10% solutions) of methacholine (MCh). Before and after 9 wk and 9 mo of acclimation, sweat glands were dissected from biopsy specimens of the lateral calf, cannulated, and stimulated in vitro with MCh. Morphological measurements of isolated tubules were compared with maximal secretory rates produced by MCh stimulation. Three weeks of acclimation 1) reduced Tre and Tsk and increased msw during the heat tolerance test and 2) significantly increased maximal msw in response to MCh stimulation. Acclimation also increased (P less than 0.05) sweat gland size, as measured by tubular length and tubular volume. Maximal in vitro msw produced by MCh stimulation and msw per unit length of secretory coil also increased significantly. We conclude that heat acclimation increases the size of eccrine sweat glands and that these larger glands produce more sweat. They are also more efficient because they produce more sweat per unit length of secretory coil.  相似文献

Endurance-training-induced cellular adaptations in respiratory muscles   总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3  
Controversy exists concerning the adaptability of mammalian respiratory muscles in response to endurance training. We examined the effects of 8 wk of progressive treadmill exercise (45 min/day 5 days/wk) on the biochemical adaptations of rat diaphragm and intercostal muscles. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to a sedentary control (n = 10) or an exercise-training group (n = 10). Endurance training resulted in an enhanced oxidative capacity in the anterior costal diaphragm as evidenced by a 29% increase (P less than 0.05) in the activity of succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) in trained animals compared with controls (4.15 +/- 0.13 vs. 3.21 +/- 0.17 mumol.g-1.min-1). Similarly, SDH activity in the intercostal muscles was 32% greater (P less than 0.05) in the trained animals than in the untrained animals (1.72 +/- 0.11 vs. 1.30 +/- 0.06 mumol.g-1.min-1). In contrast, the crural region of the diaphragm showed no significant increase (P greater than 0.05) in oxidative capacity as a result of the training program (3.28 +/- 0.12 vs. 3.13 +/- 0.18). Furthermore, training did not alter (P less than 0.05) lactate dehydrogenase activity in the intercostals or in the crural or the costal diaphragm. These data demonstrate that the oxidative capacity of the costal diaphragm and the intercostal muscles can be enhanced by increasing respiratory loads via regular endurance exercise. We speculate that the lack of metabolic adaptation in the crural region of the diaphragm was not due to limited plasticity of the fibers in this area but to failure to the exercise-training program to provide the appropriate stimulus for cellular adaptation.  相似文献

Chronic altitude residence improves muscular performance at altitude, but the effect of intermittent altitude exposures (IAE) on muscular performance at altitude has not been defined. The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of 3 wk of IAE, in combination with rest and cycle training, on muscular performance at altitude. Six lowlanders (23 +/- 2 yr, 77 +/- 6 kg; means +/- SE) completed a cycle time trial and adductor pollicis endurance test at sea level and during a 30-h acute exposure to 4,300 m altitude equivalent (barometric pressure = 446 mmHg) once before (pre-IAE) and once after (post-IAE) a 3-wk period of IAE (4 h/day, 5 days/wk, 4,300 m). During each IAE, three subjects cycled for 45-60 min/day at 60%-70% of maximal O2 uptake and three subjects rested. Cycle training during each IAE did not appear to affect muscular performance at altitude. Thus data from all six subjects were combined. Three weeks of IAE resulted in 1) a 21 +/- 6% improvement (P < 0.05) in cycle time-trial performance (min) from pre-IAE (32.8 +/- 3.7) to post-IAE (24.8 +/- 1.2), 2) a 63 +/- 26% improvement (P < 0.05) in adductor pollicis endurance (min) from pre-IAE (9.2 +/- 2.8) to post-IAE (14.8 +/- 4.2), and 3) a 10 +/- 4% increase (P < 0.05) in resting arterial O2 saturation (%) from pre-IAE (82 +/- 2) to post-IAE (90 +/- 1). These improvements in muscular performance after IAE correlated strongly with increases in resting arterial O2 saturation and were comparable to those reported previously after chronic altitude residence. IAE may therefore be used as an alternative to chronic altitude residence to facilitate improvements in muscular performance in athletes, soldiers, mountaineers, shift workers, and others that are deployed to altitude.  相似文献

Nineteen males (aged 45-68 yr) were studied before and after either a period of regular endurance exercise [walk/jog 3-4 days/wk for 30 +/- 1 (SE) wk, n = 11] or unchanged physical activity (38 +/- 2 wk, n = 8) (controls) to determine the influence of physical training on cardiac parasympathetic (vagal) tone and baroreflex control of heart rate (HR) and limb vascular resistance (VR) at rest in middle-aged and older men. Training resulted in a marked increase in maximal O2 uptake (31.6 +/- 1.2 vs. 41.0 +/- 1.8 ml.kg-1.min-1, 2.56 +/- 0.16 vs. 3.20 +/- 0.18 l/min, P less than 0.05) and small (P less than 0.05) reductions in body weight (81.2 +/- 3.5 vs. 78.7 +/- 4.0 kg) and body fat (23.8 +/- 1.3 vs. 20.9 +/- 1.3%). HR at rest was slightly, but consistently, lower after training (63 +/- 2 vs. 58 +/- 1 beats/min, P less than 0.05). In general, HR variability (index of cardiac vagal tone) was greater after training. Chronotropic responsiveness to either brief carotid baroreflex stimulation (neck suction) or inhibition (neck pressure), or to non-specific arterial baroreflex inhibition induced by a hypotensive level of lower body suction, was unchanged after training. In contrast, the magnitude of the reflex increase in forearm VR in response to three levels of lower body suction was markedly attenuated after training (38-59%; P less than 0.05 at -10 and -30 mmHg; P = 0.07 at -20 mmHg). None of these variables or responses was altered over time in the controls. These findings indicate that in healthy, previously sedentary, middle-aged and older men, strenuous and prolonged endurance training 1) elicits large increases in maximal exercise capacity and small reductions in HR at rest, 2) may increase cardiac vagal tone at rest, 3) does not alter arterial baroreflex control of HR, and 4) results in a diminished forearm vasoconstrictor response to reductions in baroreflex sympathoinhibition.  相似文献

We tested the hypothesis that local sweat rates would not display a systematic postadaptation redistribution toward the limbs after humid heat acclimation. Eleven nonadapted males were acclimated over 3 wk (16 exposures), cycling 90 min/day, 6 days/wk (40 degrees C, 60% relative humidity), using the controlled-hyperthermia acclimation technique, in which work rate was modified to achieve and maintain a target core temperature (38.5 degrees C). Local sudomotor adaptation (forehead, chest, scapula, forearm, thigh) and onset thresholds were studied during constant work intensity heat stress tests (39.8 degrees C, 59.2% relative humidity) conducted on days 1, 8, and 22 of acclimation. The mean body temperature (Tb) at which sweating commenced (threshold) was reduced on days 8 and 22 (P < 0.05), and these displacements paralleled the resting thermoneutral Tb shift, such that the Tb change to elicit sweating remained constant from days 1 to 22. Whole body sweat rate increased significantly from 0.87 +/- 0.06 l/h on day 1 to 1.09 +/- 0.08 and 1.16 +/- 0.11 l/h on days 8 and 22, respectively. However, not all skin regions exhibited equivalent relative sweat rate elevations from day 1 to day 22. The relative increase in forearm sweat rate (117 +/- 31%) exceeded that at the forehead (47 +/- 18%; P < 0.05) and thigh (42 +/- 16%; P < 0.05), while the chest sweat rate elevation (106 +/- 29%) also exceeded the thigh (P < 0.05). Two unique postacclimation observations arose from this project. First, reduced sweat thresholds appeared to be primarily related to a lower resting Tb, and more dependent on Tb change. Second, our data did not support the hypothesis of a generalized and preferential trunk-to-limb sweat redistribution after heat acclimation.  相似文献

We studied the effect of an alteration from regular endurance to speed endurance training on muscle oxidative capacity, capillarization, as well as energy expenditure during submaximal exercise and its relationship to mitochondrial uncoupling protein 3 (UCP3) in humans. Seventeen endurance-trained runners were assigned to either a speed endurance training (SET; n = 9) or a control (Con; n = 8) group. For a 4-wk intervention (IT) period, SET replaced the ordinary training ( approximately 45 km/wk) with frequent high-intensity sessions each consisting of 8-12 30-s sprint runs separated by 3 min of rest (5.7 +/- 0.1 km/wk) with additional 9.9 +/- 0.3 km/wk at low running speed, whereas Con continued the endurance training. After the IT period, oxygen uptake was 6.6, 7.6, 5.7, and 6.4% lower (P < 0.05) at running speeds of 11, 13, 14.5, and 16 km/h, respectively, in SET, whereas remained the same in Con. No changes in blood lactate during submaximal running were observed. After the IT period, the protein expression of skeletal muscle UCP3 tended to be higher in SET (34 +/- 6 vs. 47 +/- 7 arbitrary units; P = 0.06). Activity of muscle citrate synthase and 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase, as well as maximal oxygen uptake and 10-km performance time, remained unaltered in both groups. In SET, the capillary-to-fiber ratio was the same before and after the IT period. The present study showed that speed endurance training reduces energy expenditure during submaximal exercise, which is not mediated by lowered mitochondrial UCP3 expression. Furthermore, speed endurance training can maintain muscle oxidative capacity, capillarization, and endurance performance in already trained individuals despite significant reduction in the amount of training.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the time course of adaptations to training in young (i.e., <15 years) and older (i.e., <18 years) junior rugby league players. Fourteen young (14.1 +/- 0.2 years) and 21 older (16.9 +/- 0.3 years) junior rugby league players participated in a 10-week preseason strength, conditioning, and skills program that included 3 sessions each week. Subjects performed measurements of standard anthropometry (i.e., height, body mass, and sum of 7 skinfolds), muscular power (i.e., vertical jump), speed (i.e., 10-m, 20-m, and 40-m sprint), agility (505 test), and estimated maximal aerobic power (i.e., multistage fitness test) before and after training. In addition, players underwent a smaller battery of fitness tests every 3 weeks to assess the time course of adaptation to the prescribed training stimulus. During the triweekly testing sessions, players completed assessments of upper-body (i.e., 60-second push-up, sit-up, and chin-up test) and lower-body (i.e., multiple-effort vertical jump test) muscular endurance. Improvements in maximal aerobic power and muscular endurance were observed in both the young and the older junior players following training. The improvements in speed, muscular power, maximal aerobic power, and upper-body muscular endurance were greatest in the young junior players, while improvements in lower-body muscular endurance were greatest in the older junior players. These findings demonstrate that young (i.e., <15 years) and older (i.e., <18 years) junior rugby league players adapt differently to a given training stimulus and that training programs should be modified to accommodate differences in maturational and training age. In addition, the results of this study provide conditioning coaches with realistic performance improvements following a 10-week preseason strength and conditioning program in junior rugby league players.  相似文献

To determine whether cardiovascular influences of exogenous female steroid hormones include effects on reflex thermoregulatory control of the adrenergic cutaneous vasoconstrictor system, we conducted ramp decreases in skin temperature (T(sk)) in eight women in both high- and low (placebo)-progesterone/estrogen phases of oral contraceptive use. With the use of water-perfused suits, T(sk) was held at 36 degrees C for 10 min (to minimize initial vasoconstrictor activity) and was then decreased in a ramp, approximately 0.2 degrees C/min for 12-15 min. Subjects rested supine for 30-40 min before each experiment, and the protocol was terminated before the onset of shivering. Skin blood flow was monitored by laser-Doppler flowmetry and arterial pressure by finger photoplethysmography. In all experiments, cutaneous vasoconstriction began immediately with the onset of cooling, and cutaneous vascular conductance (CVC) decreased progressively with decreasing T(sk). Regression analysis of the relationship of CVC to T(sk) showed no difference in slope between phases (low-hormone phase: 17.67 +/- 5.57; high-hormone phase: 17.40 +/- 8.00 %baseline/ degrees C; P > 0.05). Additional studies involving local blockade confirmed this response as being solely due to the adrenergic vasoconstrictor system. Waking oral temperature (T(or)) was significantly higher on high-hormone vs. low-hormone days (36.60 +/- 0.11 vs. 36.37 +/- 0.09 degrees C, respectively; P < 0.02). Integrative analysis of CVC in terms of simultaneous values for T(sk) and T(or) showed that the cutaneous vasoconstrictor response was shifted in the high-hormone phase such that a higher T(or) was maintained throughout cooling (P < 0.05). Thus reflex thermoregulatory control of the cutaneous vasoconstrictor system is shifted to higher internal temperatures by exogenous female reproductive hormones.  相似文献

Increases in leg power production resulting from 8 wk of bicycle endurance training (30 min/day, 5 times/wk) were studied using an isokinetic dynamometer. In addition, biopsies of vastus lateralis were analyzed to characterize muscle ultrastructural changes. Performance increased on the dynamometer specifically near the estimated average knee angular velocity used during the bicycle training (200 degrees/s). Power measurements were made during the first 5 contractions (maximal power: Pmax) and last 5 contractions (final power: Pend) of 25 and 50 consecutive contractions (at 60 and 240 degrees/s, respectively). Pmax and Pend increased only at 240 degrees/s but not at 60 degrees/s. These increases in Pmax (86 W) and Pend (78 W) resulted primarily from longer torque maintenance but also from increased peak torque during each contraction and were close to the increase in mechanical power output maintained on the bicycle (Pb; 78 W) during the training sessions. The specificity of these changes to the angular velocities used in the bicycle training indicates a neural basis to these adaptations. We suggest that these neural adaptations, coupled with the observed enhancement of muscle mitochondrial and capillary density (+41 and +15%, respectively) underlie the increased ability to maintain power production on a bicycle after endurance training.  相似文献
