In the present study an attempt has been made to examine the morphometric characteristics of the adult males of the Thinbu-pa and the nature and extent of morphometric variation among four neighbouring Monpa groups of Arunachal Pradesh (India), namely the Panchen-pa, Dirang Monpa, Tawang Monpa and Kalaktang Monpa. For the sake of investigation altogether 14 anthropometric measurements (11 pertaining to head and face and 3 on the body as a whole) have been taken and 5 indices have been calculated. To obtain the distance values the methods of Penrose (1947, 1954) and El-Najjar (1978) have been followed. It is observed that the Thingbu-pa maintain far distance with the four neighbouring Monpa groups as well as the Panchen-pa also maintain far distance with the other four groups, while the Dirang Monpa, Tawang Monpa and Kalaktang Monpa maintain close distance among each other.  相似文献

The present study was conducted during the years 2006 to 2012 and provides information on prevalence of malaria and its regulation with effect to various climatic factors in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, India. Correlation analysis, Principal Component Analysis and Hotelling’s T2 statistics models are adopted to understand the effect of weather variables on malaria transmission. The epidemiological study shows that the prevalence of malaria is mostly caused by the parasite Plasmodium vivax followed by Plasmodium falciparum. It is noted that, the intensity of malaria cases declined gradually from the year 2006 to 2012. The transmission of malaria observed was more during the rainy season, as compared to summer and winter seasons. Further, the data analysis study with Principal Component Analysis and Hotelling’s T2 statistic has revealed that the climatic variables such as temperature and rainfall are the most influencing factors for the high rate of malaria transmission in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.  相似文献

The present study highlighted the state of climate change induced social vulnerability of the districts of Arunachal Pradesh. For the purpose of assessment of one of the most fragile ecosystems of the eastern Himalaya, the ‘Integrated Vulnerability Assessment Approach’ and IPCC’s definition of vulnerability were utilized. The assessment was based on various secondary data, like socio-economic and biophysical indicators, collected from several authenticated sources; and the respective weightage of these indicators was assigned by using ‘Principal Component Analysis’. Vulnerability was calculated as the net effect of exposure and sensitivity on the adaptive capacity. Anjaw district of eastern Arunachal Pradesh was found to be the most vulnerable district, while Tawang district of western Arunachal Pradesh happened to be the least vulnerable. This net effect was found negative in 7 out of 12 districts viz. Anjaw, Upper Siang, West Siang, Lower Dibang Valley, East Siang, East Kameng and Kurung Kurmey. This net negative effect could be construed as an alarming situation.  相似文献

International Journal of Primatology, 26, 977989) discovered Arunachal macaques (Macaca munzala), a species new to science, in the eastern Himalaya of Arunachal Pradesh in northeastern India. They depicted the holotype and paratypes of the species in photographs, and a specimen of the species had been unavailable for preservation and examination. In March 2005, we obtained an entire specimen of an adult male Macaca munzala, which we propose as a voucher specimen for the species. We provide detailed morphological and anatomical measurements of the specimen and examine its affinities with other macaques. Macaca munzala appears to be unique among macaques in craniodental size and structure, baculum, and aspects of caudal structure, while exhibiting affinities with the other members of the sinica-group to which it belongs. We summarize our insights on the origins and phylogeny of Macaca munzala. Finally, we review the current conservation status of the macaques, which are threatened by extensive hunting in the only 2 districts of Arunachal Pradesh where they are documented to occur.  相似文献

The occurrence of cleft chin was studied among five endogamous groups (Padam, Minyong, Pasi, Gallong, Apatani) of Arunachal Pradesh, Northeast India. The incidence of this trait is low in all the groups. Thus, the populations are characterized by low frequencies of the gene Cl. Bisexual difference is significant only among the Minyong. While compared with other populations from Northeast India, the Mongoloid populations were found to be distinct from the only caste population, which has been investigated so far.  相似文献

The Arunachal Pradesh state in India is epidemic for malaria, caused by P.vivax and P.falciparum. Despite the implementation of several control strategies, the outbreak of malaria in the state is mainly due to lack of proper information regarding the disease. Tibeto-Burman populations of India provide an insight into the peopling of India and aid in understanding their genetic relationship with populations of East, South and Southeast Asia. The study investigates the genetic status of one such Tibeto-Burman group, Adi of Arunachal Pradesh based on 15 autosomal microsatellite markers. Further the study examines, based on 9 common microsatellite loci, the genetic relationship of Adi with 16 other Tibeto-Burman speakers of India and 28 neighboring populations of East and Southeast Asia. Overall, the results support the recent formation of the Adi sub-tribes from a putative ancestral group and reveal that geographic contiguity is a major influencing factor of the genetic affinity among the Tibeto-Burman populations of India.  相似文献

Reports on the distribution pattern of Grey-headed gliding Squirrel Petaurista caniceps are distorted though it is on record that they inhabit the easternmost parts of Arunachal Pradesh. But recently through spotlight surveys in the month of February and March 2015 it has been possible to note their occurrence in Mehao Wildlife Sanctuary and Talle Wildlife Sanctuary in Arunachal Pradesh. P. caniceps is included as synonym to Petaurista elegans by IUCN. P. caniceps differs from P. elegans in having a distinct grey head and molecular evidences too have proved it to be a separate species.  相似文献

Nine-hundred seventy-eight subjects from eight Mongoloid tribes of northeastern India were investigated for the distribution of hemoglobin phenotypes by starch-gel electrophoresis. The sample included 157 Khasi and 24 Bodo from Cherrapunji (Meghalaya), 148, Rengma Naga and 81 Hmar of the Cachar district of Assam, 215 Adi from different subtribes, 216 Nishi, 79 Apatani, and a mixed group of 58 individuals from several other tribes of Arunachal Pradesh in northeast India. The frequency of HBB*E was found to be very low (0.01-0.02) in the Khasi, Naga, and Hmar tribes, whereas it varied from 0.06 to 0.18 among the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh. As expected, the Bodo group had a very high frequency of HBB*E (0.38), confirming earlier reports. It appears that the lack of HBB*E in the Austro-Asiatic (Khasi) and Naga-Kuki-Chin groups is probably due to the absence of malarial selection pressure as well as to isolation from their neighbors.  相似文献

The present study sought to identify the potential distribution range of critically endangered Gymnocladus assamicus in Arunachal Pradesh based on published data and field collection. We used the Maxent model to estimate the range of distribution and the result was then compared with three other models, i.e., the Generalized Linear Model (GLM), the Bioclim and the Random Forest model to assess the species' habitat suitability. A total of 23 different environmental variables were used, including bioclimatic ones, monthly minimum and maximum temperature, monthly precipitation and elevation data. The Maxent output listed 12 variables explaining 99.9% variation in the model. In comparison, Maxent showed the maximum region under habitat suitability criteria (1884.48 km2), followed by Random Forest (70.73 km2) and Bioclim (11.62 km2) model. Except for the Maxent model, suitable habitats predicted by other models are highly restricted within and across the study species' current distribution range. The average model prediction shows an expanded distribution range for the species up to Tawang which is the closest district of currently known distribution of the species in the state. Thus, the present study recognizes the importance of the geographic range of G. assamicus, a critically endangered species with very limited spatial distribution range and also provides some specific details to explore possible habitats for the species in new areas of potential occurrence in Arunachal Pradesh, India.  相似文献

Musa puspanjaliae R. Gogoi & Häkkinen, a new species of Musa sect. Musa, is described and illustrated from west Kameng, Arunachal Pradesh, India based on morphological characteristics observed in the field. The new species is common in Sessa, Zero Point to Ramda on Sepa road of west Kameng and Hazi Basti, Ziro of lower Subansiri district in Arunachal Pradesh. The present communication reports an endangered catfish of the family Siluridae, Pterocryptis barakensis (Vishwanath & Sharma) for the first time outside its type locality from Brahmaputra drainage. The specimens were collected from the River Tissa, Longding district, Arunachal Pradesh foothills of Himalayan region of North East India. The relationship between microevolution and macroevolution is a central topic in evolutionary biology. An aspect of this relationship that remains very poorly studied in modern evolutionary biology is the relationship between within‐species geographic variation and among‐species patterns of trait variation. Here, we tested the relationship between climate and morphology among and within species in the salamander genus Plethodon. We focus on a discrete colour polymorphism (presence and absence of a red dorsal stripe) that appears to be related to climatic distributions in a common, wide‐ranging species (Plethodon cinereus). We find that this trait has been variable among (and possibly within) species for >40 million years. Furthermore, we find a strong relationship among species between climatic variation and within‐species morph frequencies. These between‐species patterns are similar (but not identical) to those in the broadly distributed Plethodon cinereus. Surprisingly, there are no significant climate–morphology relationships within most other polymorphic species, despite the strong between‐species patterns. Overall, our study provides an initial exploration of how within‐species geographic variation and large‐scale macroevolutionary patterns of trait variation may be related.  相似文献

The North-Eastern region (NER) of India, comprising of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura, is a hot spot for genetic diversity and the most probable origin of rice. North-east rice collections are known to possess various agronomically important traits like biotic and abiotic stress tolerance, unique grain and cooking quality. The genetic diversity and associated population structure of 6,984 rice accessions, originating from NER, were assessed using 36 genome wide unlinked single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers distributed across the 12 rice chromosomes. All of the 36 SNP loci were polymorphic and bi-allelic, contained five types of base substitutions and together produced nine types of alleles. The polymorphic information content (PIC) ranged from 0.004 for Tripura to 0.375 for Manipur and major allele frequency ranged from 0.50 for Assam to 0.99 for Tripura. Heterozygosity ranged from 0.002 in Nagaland to 0.42 in Mizoram and gene diversity ranged from 0.006 in Arunachal Pradesh to 0.50 in Manipur. The genetic relatedness among the rice accessions was evaluated using an unrooted phylogenetic tree analysis, which grouped all accessions into three major clusters. For determining population structure, populations K = 1 to K = 20 were tested and population K = 3 was present in all the states, with the exception of Meghalaya and Manipur where, K = 5 and K = 4 populations were present, respectively. Principal Coordinate Analysis (PCoA) showed that accessions were distributed according to their population structure. AMOVA analysis showed that, maximum diversity was partitioned at the individual accession level (73% for Nagaland, 58% for Arunachal Pradesh and 57% for Tripura). Using POWERCORE software, a core set of 701 accessions was obtained, which accounted for approximately 10% of the total NE India collections, representing 99.9% of the allelic diversity. The rice core set developed will be a valuable resource for future genomic studies and crop improvement strategies.  相似文献

This paper investigates the wealth of medicinal plants used by the Apatani tribe of Arunachal Pradesh. Apatani have traditionally settled in seven villages in the Ziro valley of Lower Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh in the Eastern Himalayan region of India. The present study has resulted in the documentation of 158 medicinal plant species used by the Apatani group of villages. These medicinal plant species were distributed across 73 families and 124 genera. Asteraceae was the most dominant family (19 species, 11 genera) of medicinal plants, followed by Zingiberaceae, Solanaceae, Lamiaceae and Araceae. For curing ailments, the use of aboveground plant parts was higher (80%) than the belowground plant parts in the Apatani group of villages. Of the aboveground plant parts, leaf was used in the majority of cases (56 species), followed by fruit. Different belowground plant forms such as root, tuber, rhizome, bulb and pseudo-bulb were used by Apatani as a medicine. About 52 types of ailments were cured by using these 158 medicinal plant species. The results of this study are further discussed in the changing socio-economic contexts.  相似文献

Isolated tribes in remote areas are important for genetic studies, and one such little known subtribe of the Adi tribe, namely, the Adi Panggi (Pangi) of the Upper Siang District of Arunachal Pradesh, India, was studied for surname distribution to deduce the deviation from random mating and genetic kinship between villages. The estimates of homonymy (homozygosity) vary between villages; husbands show wider variation (0.009 to 0.23) than wives (0.005 to 0.054). The remote villages of Sumsing and Sibum and Geku Town show lower entropy among husbands' surnames than among Panggi wives. The highest equivalent surname number was found among Sibum husbands (9.9), Panggi wives (12.6), and Panggi and non-Panggi wives (13.5). The estimates of unbiased random isonymy among husbands and wives together show the smallest values in Sibum (0.05) and the highest values in Sumsing and Ramku (0.16). The random and nonrandom components of the inbreeding coefficient show avoidance of inbreeding among the Panggi villages (-0.012 to -0.27) except in Sibum (0.012). Genetic kinship between villages based on the Mij distance shows different clusters of villages among husbands and wives. Both the Panggi wives and the Panggi and non-Panggi wives show a similar pattern of clustering between villages. The wide homonymy variation between villages among the patrilocal Adi Panggi indicates differential genetic kinetics among husbands and wives, avoidance of inbreeding, and female-oriented differential gene flow with little effect on the overall intervillage genetic kinship.  相似文献

Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region of nuclear ribosomal DNA from 16 populations of Persicaria barbata (L.) H. Hara (Polygonaceae) belonging to five geographical locations of India (Arunachal Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka and Andaman Island) was sequenced. Analysis of nucleotide sequences reveals polymorphism among the populations. UPGMA analysis conducted on the ITS datasets shows that the sampled populations of P. barbata are grouped according to their geographic locations and are supposed to be evolved under reproductive isolation which most probably are due to the long distance distribution and population fragmentation.  相似文献
