An infant with chromosomally normal parents was found to have double aneuploidy and a reciprocal translocation between chromosomes number 6 and 10. This cooccurrence may represent a very rare coincidence or may indicate that primary nondisjunction and chromosome rearrangements may be more than coincidentally related.  相似文献

The co-occurrence of two numerical chromosomal abnormalities in same individual (double aneuploidy) is relatively rare and the clinical presentations are variable depending on the predominating aneuploidy or a combination effect of both. Furthermore, double aneuploidy involving both autosomal and sex chromosomes is seldom described. We describe a male patient with typical clinical features of Down Syndrome and his karyotype revealed 48,XXY,+21. The phenotypic characteristics of this child have been discussed in the light of the published reports on double aneuploidies of XXY and trisomy 21.  相似文献

Interchange trisomy 21 by t(1:21)(p22:q22)mat: Interchange trisomy 21 by t(1;21)(p22;q22)mat was identified in a sporadic patient with Down syndrome. With a 21q22 specific probe, we observed signals on both normal 21 chromosomes and on the der. We reviewed the 23 published reports of families with reciprocal translocations leading to viable offspring with interchange trisomy 21. The breakpoints in chromosome 21 were mainly located in 21q (19/24 instances, including the present report) and in 19/23 cases the other chromosome involved in the translocation was (pairs 1-12). The underlying 3:1 segregation occurred mainly in carrier mothers; only one patient presented a de novo imbalance and in another case the father was the carrier. In addition, there were 4 instances of concurrence with another unbalanced segregation (adjacent-1 or tertiary trisomy) and 3 families with recurrence of interchange trisomy 21. The mean age of 14 female carriers at birth of interchange trisomy 21 offspring (24.8 yr) was lower that the mean (28.3 yr) found in a larger sample of mothers of unbalanced offspring due to 3:1 segregation (mostly tertiary trisomics) and was not increased with respect to the general population average. Overall, these data agree with previous estimates regarding recurrence risk (9-15%) and abortion rate (about 28%) in female carriers ascertained through an interchange trisomic 21 child.  相似文献

Cytogenetic karyotyping in mental retardation associated with physical dysmorphism has been regarded as the primary key for the classification of syndromes and other genetic disorders for the predisposition of neoplasia and other fatal diseases. Giemsa-banding of metaphase chromosomes in lymphocytes is a traditional and routine process for the identification of the chromosomal counterpart which can provide a clue for molecular investigation in the subject. An 8-year-old girl showed a diploid karyotype 46, XX, t(3;12) (p21-pter, q24.1-qter) in peripheral blood lymphocyte culture. Biochemical examination of urine labelled her as a case of phenylketonuria. The maternal karyotyping was similar and confirmed the maternal transmission of the translocation.  相似文献

The authors present the clinical and cytogenetic studies of a white malformed baby with dup (3p) secondary to the malsegregation of a maternal balanced (X;3) (p22.3;p21) translocation. Besides the typical clinical features he also presented polydactyly of both hands. X-replication findings of the mother's lymphocytes did not strictly follow the usual inactivation pattern of balanced X;A translocations.  相似文献

Summary Cytogenetic findings in a case of partial trisomy 6p due to a translocation t(6;20)(p21;p13) and eleven balanced translocation heterozygotes are described.The clinical data of the proposita are compared with those of five other published cases. A partial trisomy 6p syndrome is postulated, characterized by: low birth weight, psychomotor retardation, craniofacial abnormalities (such as high prominent forehead, large fontanel, wide sagittal suture, blepharoptosis, low-set and/or malformed ears), congenital heart malformation, small kidneys, and proteinuria. Linkage studies have shown that the breakpoint in chromosome 6 involved in this translocation is close to the HLA gene cluster.  相似文献

In 1984 we reported a ring chromosome 21 in a normal woman with recurrent fetal wastage (Kleczkowska and Fryns, 1984). A 46,XY normal fetal karyotype was found after prenatal diagnosis at 14 1/2 weeks in a third pregnancy of this woman. In the present paper we report the prenatal diagnosis of a 21/21 translocation in a female fetus from her fourth pregnancy.  相似文献

The occurrence of double aneuploidy in the same individual is a relatively rare phenomenon. We describe twin newborns with typical clinical features of Down's syndrome, of which one revealed 48,XXY,+21 GTG-band karyotype. The second newborn died 2 days after its birth, and was clinically diagnosed having Down syndrome. Due to the same clinical features of the twins, the common placenta and amniotic sac, we speculate that they were monozygotics and as a result the second newborn should also be a Klinefelter. The purpose of this report is to present a rare case of possible coincidence of double aneuploidy in newborn twins. A review of the literature showed that double trisomy (48,XXY,+21) in a twin newborn infant has never occurred.  相似文献

In a representative sample of 3,840 males examined for military service chromosome examination was made in those with testes equal to or less than 12 ml and those with a stature equal to or greater than 181 cm, as well as in males not recruited because of physical or mental disability. Testes equal to or less than 12 ml were found in 59 patients (1.45%). Three of these males had a 47,XXY karyotype (5.1%), the prevalence among the total sample of 3,840 being 0.78 per 1,000. Hypogonadal signs, except for gynaecomastia, which was only present in one patient, were found in the saem proportion as in 47,XXY males ascertained in institutions and clinics. The results of EEG investigations were alos similar to those found in psychiatric institutions. The intelligence level was comparatively low; none had an IQ above 100. The personality traits corresponded to those found in institutionalized Klinefelter males.  相似文献

Occlusal morphology of permanent dentitions in 29 men with a 47,XXY chromosome complement (Klinefelter syndrome) was determined from dental casts. The results showed that a relatively frequent occlusal anomaly was mesial molar occlusion. Incisal open bite was also more common than in controls. Based on the present and previous observations of occlusal anomalies in various sex chromosome anomaly groups and normal controls, it is suggested that the presence of the Y chromosome in the genome is at least as important as the X chromosome for the development of harmonious occlusal morphology. The tendency towards sexual dimorphism in occlusal phenotype might result from a differential effect of the X and Y chromosomes on cellular activity which leads to different growth patterns.  相似文献

Summary Sperm chromosome complements from two males, one heterozygous for the reciprocal translocation t(2;17)(q35;p13) (n = 18) and one for t(3;8) (p13;p21) (n = 73), were analyzed. Only 2:2 segregations were observed with t(2;17): alternate, 56%; adjacent-I, 33%; adjacent-II, 11%. Both 2:2 and 3:1 meiotic segregations occurred in t(3;8): alternate, 34.2%; adjacent-I, 43.8%; adjacent-II, 20.5% and 3:1, 1.4%. A significant excess of chromosomally normal versus balanced sperm complements was observed with both translocation heterozygotes. The frequencies of other chromosome aberrations unrelated to the translocations were 16.7% for t(2;17) and 8.2% for t(3;8). The ratio of X-bearing to Y-bearing sperm was not different from the theoretically expected ratio of 1:1.  相似文献

Summary The origin of meiotic nondisjunction of the extra chromosomes X and 21 was studied in a patient with the karyotype 48,XXY,+21 using DNA polymorphisms. The extra chromosome X was the result of paternal first meiotic nondisjunction of X and Y. The extra chromosome 21 was derived from the mother. The meiotic error in the mother most probably occurred in meiosis II. Thus, this is a combination caused by the chance occurrence of two independent events.  相似文献
