In Lilium cv. enchantment, an orbicule peripheral sheet is characterized. It is 10 nm thick and surrounds the whole Ubisch body. Ultrastructural and cytochemical observations allow us to propose that the orbicule peripheral sheet represents remnants of a glycocalyx supported by the membrane limiting orbicule core on which sporopollenin is synthesized. A model of orbicule sporopollenin architecture and biosynthesis is discussed.  相似文献

This study aims to determine the age of individual plants of the perennial herb Lilium polyphyllum in its natural habitats. Plant age was successfully estimated as the number of years a seed takes to produce the first stem plus the number of remnants of old shoots visible on the basal plates of the bulbs. Plant age as well as morphological features of shoots and bulbs were recorded at one temperate and one high altitude site. There were significant differences between the sites with respect to plant height, leaf number, bulb diameter and weight. The results show that individuals of similar age differ in morphology between temperate and high altitude sites. At both sites, all flowering plants of L. polyphyllum were 10–12 years old.  相似文献

Dormancy-breaking and seed germination studies in genus Lilium reveal that the majority of Lilium spp. studied have an underdeveloped embryo at maturity, which grows inside the seed before the radicle emerges. Additionally, the embryo, radicle or cotyledon has a physiological component of dormancy; thus, Lilium seeds have morphophysiological dormancy (MPD). A previous study suggested that seeds of Lilium polyphyllum have MPD but the study did not investigate the development of the embryo, which is one of the main criteria to determine MPD in seeds. To test this hypothesis, we investigated embryo growth and emergence of radicles and epicotyls in seeds over a range of temperatures. At maturity, seeds had underdeveloped embryos which developed fully at warm temperature within 6 weeks. Immediately after embryo growth, radicles also emerged at warm temperatures. However, epicotyls failed to emerge soon after radicle emergence. Epicotyls emerged from >90% seeds with an emerged radicle only after they were subjected to 2 weeks of cold moist stratification. The overall temperature requirements for dormancy-breaking and seed germination indicate a non-deep simple epicotyl MPD in L. polyphyllum.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of the embryo sac, nucellus, and parts of the micropyle of Lilium longiflorum were studied both before and after pollen tube penetration to examine the interactions between ovule and pollen tube, using transmission electron microscopy and light microscopy. Before pollen tube penetration the egg cell and two synergids are similar. No filiform apparatus was detected and no synergid degeneration occurs prior to pollen tube penetration. The polar nuclei do not fuse until fertilization. No differences in embryo sac ultrastructure were detected between pollinated ovules unpenetrated by pollen tubes and unpollinated flowers of a comparable age. Shortly after the discharge of the pollen tube two enucleated cytoplasmic bodies with different ribosome densities were observed in the degenerated cytoplasm. These structures border both on the central cell and the egg cell as well as each other and are interpreted as remains of sperm cytoplasm after transmission of sperm nuclei. In the central cell both the sperm nucleus and the polar nuclei are associated with endoplasmic reticulum (ER). ER is thought to be a transport mechanism to achieve contact between the haploid polar nuclei and the sperm nucleus. In the egg cell sperm nucleus alignment is not visibly achieved by ER. The persistent cells of the egg apparatus and the central cell appear to become more metabolically active after pollen tube penetration. Pollen tube penetration already occurs despite the absence of a filiform apparatus and a low level of differences between the cells of the egg apparatus.  相似文献

Here we describe the characterization of six polymorphic microsatellite loci for Lilium philadelphicum (Liliaceae). Polymorphism levels ranged from 7 to 30 alleles per locus with a mean number of 15 alleles per locus. Observed heterozygosity (HO) ranged from 0.17 to 0.82 and did not deviate from Hardy–Weinberg expectations in the three western Montana populations included in the analysis. These loci are proving useful in studying gene flow between populations of this species distributed across its range in North America.  相似文献

In this study, pollen grains and anatomical features of Turkish lilies were investigated under the electron (SEM) and light (LM) microscope. LM and SEM observations showed that the pollen grains are monosulcate, heteropolar, elliptical in polar view and oblate. Numerical results based on combined palynological and anatomical characters were discussed and compared with traditional taxonomic treatments. It was found that the midrib shape, mesophyll type, P/E (polar/equatorial), sulcus length, and lumina width are the most valuable traits in separating the examined taxa. The numerical analysis showed that Lilium candidum L. differs from the rest Turkish Lilium and also confirmed a close relationship between L. szovitsianum Fisch. & Avé-Lall. and L. armenum Miscz. ex Grossh. Also this study is the first report dealing with anatomical and palynological features of all Turkish lilies.  相似文献

以野百合(Lilium brownii)新鲜叶片、硅胶干燥叶片及鳞片为材料,研究了DNA的提取方法,并对影响随机扩增多态DNA(RAPD)反应的各因素进行了优化。建立了野百合RAPD的优化反应体系及程序,即在20μl反应体系中,含20 ng模板DNA,2.0 mmol/L Mg2 、0.2 mmol/L dNTPs、1.5 U Taq DNA聚合酶、0.3μmol/L随机引物S1519;扩增程序为:94℃预变性5 min,然后94℃30 s,38℃50 s,72℃1 min,35个循环,最后72℃延伸10 min,4℃保存。  相似文献

Fifty‐two populations representing thirty‐two taxa of Lilium L. from China are karyologically analyzed. The results showed that all populations have the same basic chromosome number x=12, and all species are diploid except Lilium tigrinum, which is triploid with 2n=36. In addition, one population of L. sulphureum is aneuploid with 2n=23. The karyotype evolution in the genus Lilium is mainly in terms of alterations of the fine structure of the chromosomes, not in ploidy or basic chromosome number variation. When combining previous studies and our results, we consider the major driving forces for evolution of Lilium to be an increase in karyotypic asymmetry, and unequal translocation and formation of secondary constrictions. The existence of intercalary satellites on the two largest pairs of chromosomes is correlated with the geographic distribution pattern of Lilium across the world. The Hengduan Mountains is a modern diversity and differentiation center of Lilium and it also could be the center of origin for this genus. In addition, some taxonomic conclusions were verified on the subgenus level. Among the species investigated, the chromosome number and karyotypes of 13 taxa were documented for the first time.  相似文献

Abstract Lilium lancifolium Thunb, is the only polyploid species complex consisting of 2x (2n=24) and 3x (2n=36) forms in the genus, both of which are highly self-sterile. They are cytologically differentiated into various nucleolar types by number and combination of four kinds of nucleolar chromosomes. The 3x form is widespread from the North-East district of China to the Japanese Islands through the Korean Peninsula. However, the 2x form is localized and grows singly or together with the 3x form in the narrow zone from southern Korea to the Tsushima Islands, Japan. The 2x form reproduces by sexual as well as by asexual means, but a sterile 3x form has asexually persisted to the present. Generally speaking, the 3x form is the allotriploid which has originated from hybridization between a 2x form and a closely related species such as L. maximowiczii in the remote past. In the present study, another possibility for the presence of the autotriploid form is newly proposed based on its karyotype and geographic distribution.  相似文献

The Lilium carniolicum group consists of several taxonomically dubious taxa endemic to the European flora. Internal transcribed spacer (ITS) sequences of nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrDNA) were used to clarify both the delineation of, and relationships among, taxa in the group as well as to provide insight on the phylogenetic position of the group within the genus. Maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian analyses were in general agreement, with all taxa in the group being very closely related, and the entire group being monophyletic. L. pyrenaicum and L. pomponium are placed at the basal position in the group, while L. chalcedonicum is shown to be more closely related to L. carniolicum than previously thought. Our analyses suggested that L. albanicum and L. jankae are distinct from L. carniolicum, while no evidence was found to support the same separation for L. bosniacum.  相似文献

Ultrastructural and cytochemical studies have shown that the orbicule core is surrounded by a sheet about 90 Å in thickness. It is stained by KMnO4 and composed of proteins, unsaturated lipids and esterified pectins. These data indicate that there is a biological membrane between the orbicule core and the wall. It is thought that this membrane is coated by a glycocalyx and supports the orbicule sporopollenic wall biosynthesis.  相似文献

Animals of many species tend to target their foraging attemptstoward particular microhabitats within their habitat. Althoughthese preferences are critical determinants of the foragingniche and have important ecological and evolutionary implications,we know little about how they develop. Here, we use detailedlongitudinal data from meerkats (Suricata suricatta) to examinehow individual learning and the use of social information affectthe development of foraging microhabitat preferences. Despiteliving in an open, arid environment, adult meerkats frequentlyforaged at the base of vegetation. Young pups seldom did so,but their foraging microhabitat choices became increasinglyadult-like as they grew older. Learning about profitable microhabitatsmay have been promoted in part by positive reinforcement fromprey capture. Foraging may also have become increasingly targetedtoward suitable locations as pups grew older because they spentmore time searching before embarking on foraging bouts. Thedevelopment of microhabitat preferences might also have beeninfluenced by social cues. Foraging in close proximity to adultsmay increase the probability that pups would dig in similarmicrohabitats. Also, pups often dug in holes created by olderindividuals, whereas adults never dug in existing holes. Foragingin existing holes was no more profitable to pups than creatingtheir own foraging hole but could provide pups with importantinformational benefits. The integration of personal and socialinformation is likely to be a common feature in the developmentof the foraging niche in generalist species.  相似文献

The Baekdudaegan, a mountain range that runs north to south along the Korean Peninsula, has been suggested to harbor important glacial refugia for boreal and temperate plant species. A series of allozyme-based genetic studies supports this trend. A large effective population size (Ne) is suggested as one of major factors contributing to maintaining moderate or high levels of within-population genetic variation in these plant species. To test this hypothesis, we examined the levels and patterns of allozyme diversity, tested recent bottlenecks, and estimated recent migration rates in 10 subpopulations (collected within a distance of ca. 640 m) of the boreal Lilium cernuum at Mt. Deokhang, in the central part of the Baekdudaegan. We found high levels of within-population genetic variation as well as a low between-population genetic differentiation (He = 0.206 and FST = 0.019). Based on the FST estimate and mean recent migration rate, we approximately calculated a total effective population size of 508 across 10 subpopulations. Consistent with this, we found no evidence of recent bottlenecks in the subpopulations. This study reveals that subpopulations of L. cernuum at Mt. Deokhang are effectively large (on the order of hundreds), and that high levels of gene flow occur among them, probably due to the species' high potential for seed dispersal. These demographic and life-history traits, coupled with its high levels of genetic diversity, suggests that this cold-adapted species would have found large refugial areas in these mountains (i.e., macrorefugia) during the Last Glacial Maximum.  相似文献

对西伯利亚、索尔邦、蒂伯3个东方百合品种(Lilium“Oriental Hybrids”)鳞茎繁育过程中植株的气体交换、叶氮含量、叶绿素含量等进行了测定,试图了解东方百合在滇中低纬高原地区的生理生态适应性。3个品种中,蒂伯的光合能力最强,西伯利亚最弱,其光合速率与羧化效率、比叶重及叶氮含量相关,说明其光合能力主要受Rubisco的活性和/或数量影响。3个品种的光补偿点和光饱和点较低,且在高光下没有明显的光抑制现象,对光强表现出宽广的适应性。不同品种的光合最适温度不同,西伯利亚较高(25.5~34.9℃),适宜种植于较温暖的地区;索尔邦较低(19.3~25.6℃),适宜种植于冷凉地区;蒂伯对温度较不敏感,在滇中低纬高原的气候条件下有更广的种植区域。  相似文献

We present phylogenetic analyses of 37 taxa of Fritillaria (Liliaceae), 15 species of Lilium, and several outgroup taxa from Liliaceae s.s. to investigate the generic delimitation of Fritillaria in relation to Lilium as well as infrageneric relationships within Fritillaria. We used DNA sequences from the maturase-coding plastid matK gene and the trnK intron, the intron of the ribosomal protein-coding rpl16 plastid gene, and the nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacers (ITS). Phylogenetic analysis using maximum parsimony defined Fritillaria and Lilium (the latter including Nomocharis) as sister taxa. Fritillaria sections Fritillaria and Liliorhiza are supported in part, and some of the most enigmatic species usually included in Fritillaria (sections Petilium and Theresia and the monotypic genus Korolkowia) are closely related. The results support the new classification of Fritillaria proposed by Rix. We postulate independent origins of the underground bulbils found in Fritillaria davidii and the remainder of subgenus Liliorhiza.  相似文献

Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) fingerprinting was used to study species boundaries in six closely related NE Turkish Lilium (Liliaceae) taxa of the section Liriotypus. The investigated taxa were L. ciliatum, L. akkusianum, L. ponticum, L. kesselringianum, L. armenum, and L. szovitsianum. Of the 108 primers screened, 11 provided polymorphic and reproducible bands. A total of 93 polymorphic bands were scored for 122 individuals from 18 populations of the six Lilium taxa and principle coordinate analysis and neighbour-joining cluster analysis based on these RAPD profiles were performed. The results demonstrate a clear distinction between the two species L. ciliatum and L. akkusianum, and the other four species. While populations of the two species groups are found to be allopatrically distributed, the two species groups overlap in their geographical ranges. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) indicated that nearly half of the total molecular variance is found within the individual populations and that the molecular variance among species is as high as the variance within the individual species, indicating that genetic differentiation of the species is rather weak.  相似文献

As an inhabitant of the intertidal zone, Nerophis lumbriciformis predictably should show a clear rhythmic activity, with its maximum closely correlated with the high tide period, as observed in several other rocky intertidal fish species. We investigated the rhythmic activity patterns of N. lumbriciformis and analysed to what extent specific substratum preferences may be linked to water level and, ultimately, to the particular activity rhythm patterns of the fish. To determine N. lumbriciformis substratum preferences, two different experiments were conducted. The first evaluated substratum preferences from among a group of the four most common substrates found in the sample area. The second experiment evaluated the fish's maintenance of that substratum preference, after alteration of the water level in a simulated ebb tide. From the available substrata, N. lumbriciformis displayed a clear preference for algae until the water level began to decrease. Then, the preference radically shifted from algae to boulders. N. lumbriciformis showed a clear rhythmic activity, affected by both tidal and circadian periodicity, producing asymmetrical activity peaks. Unlike the rhythms of other rocky intertidal fish species, the maximum activity peaks were not centred at the expected high tide period. The adaptive explanation for the apparently peculiar activity peaks appears to be related to the particular substratum preferences of N. lumbriciformis. The detected circatidal period seems, consequently, closely related to small migrations between substrata, whilst the observed increase in diurnal activity, independent of the tidal cycle, may be related to predatory activity, since N. lumbriciformis is a visual feeder. We examined microhabitat preferences and their adaptiveness for the kelp gull Larus dominicanus in one of its largest colonies in Patagonia. We quantified 13 habitat variables at 104 and 92 nest-sites and at 70 and 60 random points in 1998 and 1999, respectively. We recorded egg laying dates, hatching success, number of chicks fledged and breeding success at 92 of these nests in each of the study seasons. Compared to random points, nest sites had more vegetation cover and were closer to the nearest available bush, but they were located further from the nearest clearing for flight take-off, all variables included in the "vegetation" principal component. Nests were built on substrates with lower slopes and higher percentages of silt-clay, but with lower percentages of rock. In both years, hatching success, number of chicks fledged and breeding success were related positively to the vegetation principal component. Substrate slope and composition contributed to explain the variation in hatching and breeding success in 1998 and 1999, respectively. Our study shows that some kelp gull breeding parameters are affected by nest-site habitat characteristics. These associations were in most cases influenced by the timing of breeding, with earlier breeders being more successful. Vegetation effects and substrate characteristics were important variables in distinguishing random sites from nest sites, and in explaining variation in breeding performance, showing that their habitat preferences are adaptive and allowing us to detect both the pattern and process in kelp gull habitat selection.  相似文献

Eight species ofAllium subgen.Allium sect.Allium have been studied at the cytological level by means of karyological analyses and at the biochemical level with regard to the proportions of ribosomal DNA. All the species have a basic genome of x = 8.A. sativum, A. commutatum, A. ampeloprasum, andA. vineale possess approximately 0.050% rDNA and two nucleolus organizer regions per basic chromosome set.A. sphaerocephalon andA. arvense have two nucleolus organizers, andA. amethystinum three nucleolus organizers per haploid (n = x) genome: the three species possess approximately 0.075% rDNA.A. acutiflorum has five nucleolus organizer regions per haploid genome and 0.121% rDNA. An attempt to relate these differences with functional and ecological characteristics indicates that evolutionary variation of rDNA proportions is not casual. Such data also can help to define systematic affinities and circumscribe infrageneric taxa.  相似文献
