The objective of this work was to register the infestation of C. capitata on papaya fruits in Minas Gerais State. Papaya fruits were collected, in a commercial orchard, in Jaíba, north of the State of Minas Gerais. C. capitata was the only specie collected (794 individuals). Doryctobracon areolatus (Szépligeti) was collected parasitizing C. capitata larvae/pupae. The level of infestation was of 7,7 pupae/kg of fruit or 1,4 pupae/fruit, in average. C. capitata is registered for the first time on papaya fruits in the State of Minas Gerais.  相似文献

New records and distributional notes are provided for Reserva Ecológica Michelin, an Atlantic Forest fragment near the southern coast of Bahia State, Brazil. Two families, four genera and five species are recorded for the first time in Bahia State. Additionally, one family, two genera and three species are also recorded for the first time in the Northeast Region of Brazil, resulting in nine families, 48 genera and 96 species recorded to this region. Amongst the recorded species, Hermanella mazama (Nascimento, Mariano, and Salles, 2012) has been classified as an endangered species on the official Brazilian red list.  相似文献

The kinetics of chlorophyll a fluorescence were measured at 685 nm in intact cells of Porphyra yezoensis during alternate illumination of the organism with two colors of light, one absorbed by phycoerythrin and the other by chlorophyll a. Two components of fluorescence change overlapping each other in time were separated; the fast component may be controlled by the rate of Photoreaction II which competes with the fluorescence emission process, and the slow component by the light-induced change in excitation transfer between two pigment systems as suggested in our previous study6. The kinetics of the slow change in fluorescence yield were extensively investigated.

Terms, “State I” and “State II” are used to describe the state of excitation transfer. In the State I a lesser amount of excitation energy is delivered in Pigment System I and greater to Pigment System II than in the State II. The conversion of the states is achieved by the selective illumination of pigment systems.

The conversion from the State I toward the State II occurred under Light II (light absorbed by Pigment System II) with a half time of about 10 sec, and it saturated at a light intensity of less than 1000 ergs×cm−2×sec−1. The reverse conversion occurred under Light I (light absorbed by Pigment System I) with a half time of about 5 sec, and it saturated at about 10 000 ergs×cm−2×sec−1.

Light I and Light II competed with each other in the interconversion of the states.  相似文献

The male of Tityus kuryi Lourenço, 1997 is described for the first time. Despite being very similar to the female, the male presents more robust metasomal segments. Additionally, the distribution of the sexual populations of another two species of the T. stigmurus complex is reported herein: T. serrulatus Lutz & Mello, 1922 and T. stigmurus (Thorell, 1877). Males of T. serrulatus were, until now, restricted to the Minas Gerais State (Southwestern region of Brazil), and with new records reported here, its known distribution now encompasses the Northeastern region of Brazil. Males of T. stigmurus were previously recorded only for two municipalities in the State of Bahia, and here we present eight new records for Bahia State and one for Pernambuco State. We present a key to related species of the T. stigmurus complex based on morphology and coloration pattern.  相似文献

The addition of ATP to thylakoids isolated from Chlorella vulgaris is shown to lead to a quenching of fluorescence originating from Photosystem II and phosphorylation of chlorophyll achlorophyll b light-harvesting protein (LHCP) directly analogous to that reported for higher-plant chloroplasts. The time courses of these two processes are shown to be identical. Parallel measurements of ATP-induced changes in the fluorescence properties of isolated algal thylakoids and light-driven (State 1 / State 2 changes) in whole cells strongly support the idea that LHCP phosphorylation plays an important role in State 2 adaptation under in vivo conditions.  相似文献

Background

Trachoma is thought to be endemic over large parts of Southern Sudan, but empirical evidence is limited. While some areas east of the Nile have been identified as highly endemic, few trachoma surveys have been conducted in the remainder of the country. This study aimed to determine whether trachoma constitutes a problem to public health in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal and Unity State, both located west of the Nile.

Methods and Principal Findings

Trachoma rapid assessments (TRA) were conducted between July and September 2009. Seven villages in Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State and 13 villages in Unity State were surveyed; an average of 50 children (age 1–9 years) and 44 women (age 15 years and above) were examined per village. Samples for analysis using the APTIMA Combo-2 nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) were collected from participants with active trachoma in eight villages in Unity State. In Northern Bahr-el-Ghazal State, only three children with active trachoma (trachomatous inflammation follicular (TF) and/or trachomatous inflammation intense (TI)) and two women with trichiasis (TT) were found, in two of the seven villages surveyed. In Unity State, trachoma was endemic in all thirteen villages surveyed; the proportion of children with active trachoma ranged from 33% to 75% between villages, while TF in children ranged from 16% to 44%. Between 4% to 51% of examined women showed signs of TT. Samples from active trachoma cases tested using the NAAT were positive for Chlamydia trachomatis infection for 46.6% of children and 19.0% of women.

Conclusions

Trachoma presents a major problem to public health Unity State, while the disease is of low priority in Northern-Bahr-el-Ghazal State. Implementation of a population-based prevalence survey is now required in Unity State to generate baseline prevalence data so that trachoma interventions can be initiated and monitored over time.  相似文献

Summary The present experiment compared the establishment of a position habit and three subsequent response shifts with and without discriminative stimuli. The discriminative stimuli employed were (a) 90° and 180° polarization patterns and (b) high and low intensity levels. A significant difference (0.05) was found between the running time performance of the polarization discrimination group and the uniform illumination and bright-dark discrimination groups. No similar difference was found with errors as the dependent measure, and no significant between group differences were found during the response shifts. The conclusion was drawn that the extra-ocular hypothesis could not account for the significant difference.This paper is taken from a Master's Thesis submitted to the Florida State University by the senior author, under the direction of the junior author, in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the evolution of HIV infected patients and to bring out some significant factors associated with this pathology. The main criteria revealing the State of illness is viral load measurement (VL). However the CD4 lymphocytes also represent an important marker as these reflect the State of the immune reservoir. Many studies have been carried out in this field and different models have been proposed with a view to a better understanding of this disease. Multi State Markov models defined in terms of CD4 counts, or in terms of viral load, have proved to be very useful tools for modelling HIV disease progression. The model we have developed in this study is based on both the CD4 lymphocytes counts and VL. Markov models are characterized by transition intensities. In this paper we explored several structures in succession. First, we used a homogeneous continuous time Markov process with four states defined by crossed values of CD4 and VL in a given patient at a given time. Then, the effect of certain covariates on the infection process was introduced into the model via the transition intensity functions, as with a Cox regression model. Since the hypothesis of homogeneity may be unrealistic in certain cases, we also considered piecewise homogeneous Markov models. Finally, the effects of covariates and time were combined in a piecewise homogeneous model with a covariate. We applied these methods to data from 1313 HIV-infected patients included in the NADIS cohort.  相似文献

We have shown that degradation of asialo-orosomucoid (ASOR) in isolated rat hepatocytes occurs by two different intracellular pathways [Clarke, Oka & Weigel (1987) J. Biol. Chem. 262, 17384-17392] mediated by two subpopulations of cell surface galactosyl (Gal) receptors, designated State 1 or State 2 receptors. In the present study, several inhibitors were tested for their effects on ligand degradation by the State 1 or State 2 pathway. Leupeptin, monensin and chloroquine completely inhibited degradation of 125I-labelled ASOR in both pathways. Dose-response studies showed, however, that the State 2 pathway was more sensitive to leupeptin or monensin than the State 1 pathway. No differences were observed with chloroquine. For example, the onset of inhibition in the State 2 and State 1 pathways occurred at about 0.05 and 0.3 microM-leupeptin respectively, a 6-fold difference. At 3.5 microM-monensin, 125I-ASOR degradation in the State 2 pathway was completely blocked, whereas degradation in the State 1 pathway was essentially unaffected. Colchicine was observed to give the largest differential sensitivity between the two pathways. The State 2 degradation pathway was about 30-fold more sensitive to colchicine than the State 1 pathway. Lumicolchicine had no affect. The onset of inhibition of the rate of 125I-ASOR degradation in the State 2 and State 1 pathways occurred at approximately 0.1 and 3.0 microM-colchicine respectively. At very high concentrations (greater than 0.1 mM), the State 1 pathway could be completely inhibited. We conclude that intracellular 125I-ASOR processing or delivery to degradative compartments in both the State 1 and State 2 Gal receptor pathways requires low pH. Ligand delivery to the degradative compartment does not require microtubules in the State 1 pathway, consistent with the very rapid onset of degradation in this pathway. In this study, we characterized and compared the ligand-independent loss of surface galactosyl (Gal) receptor activity on isolated rat hepatocytes treated with monensin, chloroquine, microtubule depolymerizing agents, or NaN3 and NaF at 37 degrees C. Freshly isolated hepatocytes exhibit predominately one subset of surface Gal receptors, termed State 1 receptors (Weigel, P. H., Clarke, B. L., and Oka, J. A. (1986) Biochem. Biophys. Res. Commun. 140, 43-50). During equilibration at 37 degrees C, these cells also express a second subset of Gal receptors at the surface, termed State 2 receptors, and routinely double their total surface Gal receptor activity. Following equilibration at 37 degrees C and then inhibitor treatment, hepatocytes bound 40-60% less 125I-asialoorosomucoid (ASOR) at 4 degrees C than did untreated cells. Treated cells maintained a basal nonmodulated level of surface receptor activity regardless of temperature, perturbant concentration, or incubation time. Loss of surface Gal receptor activity on cells treated with multiple inhibitors simultaneously or sequentially was not additive. Thus, all treatments affected the same subpopulation of surface Gal receptors. None of these inhibitors decreased surface State 1 Gal receptor activity, but all prevented the normal appearance of State 2 Gal receptors on freshly isolated cells during incubation at 37 degrees C. The endocytic capability of residual surface State 1 Gal receptors on inhibitor-treated cells varied depending on the inhibitor. Hepatocytes treated first at 24 degrees C or with colchicine at 37 degrees C internalized greater than 85% of surface-bound 125I-ASOR. In contrast, monensin- or chloroquine-treated cells internalized approximately 50% of surface-bound 125I-ASOR. Azide-treated cells internalized less than 20% of surface-bound 125I-ASOR. We conclude that only surface State 2 Gal receptor activity is sensitive to these various perturbants. State 1 Gal receptor activity is not modulated. These data are consistent with the conclusion that only State 2 Gal receptors constitutively recycle.  相似文献

A total of 2552 persons living in 9 villages along the Benue river valley, Mutum-Biyu district of Gongola State, Nigeria were examined between October and December 1989 for filariasis. It is the first time a filariasis survey will be carried out in this State. 276 (10.8%) had Wuchereria bancrofti, 50 (2.0%) had Loa loa, 281 (11.0%) were positive for Mansonella perstans while 12 (0.5%) were positive for Onchocerca volvulus. Villages located near the Benue river had higher prevalence rates than those further away. Dermatitis and hydrocoele were common and clinical manifestations were associated with parasite types. Clinical symptoms without microfilaremia and microfilaremia without clinical symptoms were also observed. The study will fill the gap in our knowledge of filariasis in this part of Nigeria.  相似文献

State transitions were investigated in the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. PCC 7002 in both wild-type cells and mutant cells lacking phycobilisomes. Preillumination in the presence of DCMU induced State 1 and dark-adaptation induced State 2 in both wild-type and mutant cells as determined by 77 K fluorescence emission spectroscopy. Light-induced transitions were observed in the wild-type after preferential excitation of phycocyanin (State 2) or preferential excitation of Chl a (State 1). Light-induced transitions were also observed in the phycobilisome-less mutant after preferential excitation of short-wavelength Chl a (State 2) or carotenoids and long-wavelength Chl a (State 1). We conclude that the mechanism of the light-state transition in cyanobacteria does not require the presence of the phycobilisome. Our results contradict proposed models for the state transition, which require phosphorylation of, and an active role for, the phycobilisome.  相似文献

Studies of the variability of enhancement in Chlorella pyrenoidosa confirm the existence of two types of variability: a very slow diurnal variation linked to the growth cycle and a much more rapid adaptive response to the immediate incident light conditions (State I–State II transitions). Measurements of the wavelength dependencies and relative contributions of these two types of variability suggest that they may be linked.A close examination of the enhancement signals associated with the State I–State II transition reveals that the transitions can take place in any one of three ways: by a change in Photosystem II efficiency alone, by a change in Photosystem I efficiency alone or by a simultaneous change in the efficiencies of both photosystems.Measurements of the rates of transition between State I, State II and the dark adapted state, Dark, suggest that the behaviour of State II and Dark are normally, but not always, identical. The transitions between the three states were found to be first order. For those samples exhibiting the same behaviour in Dark and State II, the rate of the State I–State II transition was found to be independent of the wavelength of Light II, suggesting that the return from State I to State II is essentially a dark process and that the driving force for the adaptive transition is the over-stimulation of Photosystem I.Finally, a model is proposed, involving an antagonistic control of the quantum yields of photochemistry of the two photosystems, that is capable of explaining the links between the two types of variability, their wavelength dependencies and the shapes of the individual enhancement signals.  相似文献
